Shouldn’t Thieves be hitting the hardest spike wise/dps due to our LOW health pool and medium armor?
Using that logic, they wouldn’t be the highest spike. Elementalists have low health AND low armor. They’d be getting the highest spike. Thieves would still be underrated to you.
Armor and Health do not make an entire class. People who make RPGs are starting to figure that out, now its time for the players to follow suit. DAoC is back <— THAT way.
Thief has spammable stealth, poison on an auto attack, autos can easily hit over 10k (how many classes can do that?), fastest attack rate on autos (daggers) in the game, S/D spam 2 all day. What else do you need?
Which auto hits for over 10k? I’m missing something.
Yeah, you missed the part where Backstab is on skill 1 so he considers it “auto-attack”
This isn’t WoW people. Just because a skill isn’t Shift+Ctrl+F7+Mouse2, since you ran out of all other combinations, doesn’t make it an auto-attack.
In fact, any skill in GW2 can be made an auto-attack, it’s just that functionality is most effective on chain skills. Or you could be the thief that makes your Heartseeker auto-attack. Those are still pretty popular and nub-friendly.
As for the topic at hand, try sharing venoms…that’s extremely powerful. Oh and grab a pistol and get the Defiant stacks off of bosses will you? I’m sick and tired of having a class in the party that can easily remove those during combat but don’t because they’d rather take 2 daggers and dance around merrily applying a few stacks of bleeding.
BTW, Basilisk venom ignores Defiant. The only ability that does outside of water combat.
You’ve got to BUILD to help out. Bringing PvP to PvE doesn’t help. I change all my builds for PvE and PvP. Thieves are no special class and should get no special attention so as to not require different tools for different situations.

Karl tries to explain how Guardians and Necromancers bunker better than Warriors while Roy and a friendly necro are trying to beat on a Warrior….and lose horribly.
Start watching at about 9 minutes. Karl clearly has no idea what he’s watching or what he’s talking about. Clue number one, the warrior runs in with a banner and he calls him a “greatsword build”. But just listen to him talk and eventually be surprised as he puts his foot in his mouth about who’s a better bunker.
Warriors are currently OP in the bunker meta. Anyone who denies this is only fooling themselves. The only reason wars don’t just dominate hands-down is because toughness/condi builds are pure win. The meta is all kinds of fkd right now.
That video is a terrible example after seeing the terrible skill level of the people trying to kill the warrior.
Ad Hominem is Ad Hominem? You haven’t provided an argument.
0/10/30/0/30 H/LB is a pretty OP bunker war. I’ve already called their nerfs required for the ‘cheese’ build, but here they are again:
- Healing signet base regen reduction and an increase to healing stat mult
- Banners heal instead of providing regen boon
- Warrior’s Sprint moved to Adept tier in Strength
- Restorative Strength moved to Adept tier in Discipline
- Adrenal Health moved to Grandmaster Major in Defense line
- Spiked Armor moved to Master Major in Defense line
- Cull the Weak moved to Master Minor trait in Defense line
- Unsuspecting Foe moved to Master tier in Arms
- Opportunist moved to Adept tier in Arms
- Opportunist changed from “immobilize” to “disable”
Wait until it gets changed, and I will drink the tears of all the current meta wars.
I’ve played all the classes and I find my warrior to be the only one I could ever have fun with. This build’s totally OP right now, they’re just waiting until after the PAX live tournaments to change him back.
Either that or people will be recieving a great many buffs…which is almost the same thing.
BTW kitten s, you’re not adding anything meaningful. You’re just contradicting and condecending. In other words, stop trolling.

I have a full exotic lvl80 guardian and a lvl36 warrior.
I play both on wvw (i level up my war in wvw only)
Dont make a guardian, make a warrior.
-As a guardian you are good in tpvp , you only need a lvl1 guardian to play it.
-As a guardian you are good in zerg, you can do it safe in zerg at low level with green items anyways.
-As a guardian you gonna had a BAD time with range or kites classes, only necros lacks on mobility like you, you have too few gap closer and you have almost nothing to keep them close (slows, roots, speed you up) , you just can hold a position, tank if the enemy dont just ignore you and attack only your allies, and just buff.
The main problem of guardians is his lack of mobility and CC to keep them in melee range, and your range weapon is so limited, only 1 one handed weapon with 3 skills, and one of them is situational to do full damage, and the AA is just too low in damage without side effects (no bleeding, etc…)You lose a lot of damage potential because you cant melee hit them continuously. Guardian have a lot of damage bursting with berserker, jump-and-nuke them only in one move.
A warrior can be more tanky than a guardian (time block, not hit block) you can block 20 enemies hits, not just 1 or 3 like guardian. And you have a lot of them (shield block, endure pain, endure pain trait) for one hit block you have mace and sword.
-As a warrior you havent healing powers but you have a lot more regeneration.
-As a warrior you have a lot of mobility.
-As a warrior you have a lot of CC. A LOT.
-You can jump to enemies and stick to him very easily.
-You can be less kite because you are almost inmune by traits to inmovilize effect (auto stability, root time reduction, jump to go out inmobilizations)
-You have a lot more damage.
-You have a lot more condition damage
-You have better stats (more free health, more for others stats instead of vitality)
-You have better range options.
-You can support as well with shouts and banners. Maybe not that good as guardian but good at all.

The article was old. That blog post just re-ran a compilation of old post statistics and the one about which class was played/created the most/least was about the first statistic shown when the game went live last year.
I’d venture to say that, pre-nerf, eles were about 18-20% of the population’s classes in-use at any given point in time. You’re not going to get that kind of stat now though, they’re no longer OP.
Notice how anyone who says “L2P; roll a thief” still mains a thief. Hmm.
Oh and btw, how’s that Pistol Whip revert coming along guys? Did it lose traction when thieves lost their OP-only, FotM players or when people realized it didn’t need to happen?
Two-handed weapons need TWO Infusion slots
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

I would like to see if they’re actually going to take the time to balance the 2HW with DW as far as having 2 vs 1 sigils and now 2 vs 1 infusion slots.
Any word on this guys?
The mats will absolutely drop in WvW. In addition, generally speaking, we are putting a heavier emphasis on finding long-term solutions to redressing the reward imbalance between PvE and WvW. I can’t claim they will ever be 100% equal all the time, but we would like it to never be the case that you are choosing between playing WvW and getting good rewards. The two should be one in the same.
Upgrade the rank chests to include one guaranteed rare like world boss chests, and hook us up with dungeon tokens from rank/champion chests and random drops so we can get our cool-looking armor and legendaries without grinding PvE content. Or at least let us buy tokens with badges of honor if that’s easier to implement. That’d be a good start.
Then add some more cool finishers to the gem store so we have something to throw money at.
The one thing you do have to remember about legendary items is that they require map completion. Map completion requires a trip to WvW. And if you don’t have the capability to travel in a group to the vistas and PoIs, you’re either going to have to get out there on your own and risk PvP or wait until your server has everything…which could be a long time.
The weight of legendaries is heavily PvE, yes, but they are by no means able to be obtained exclusively in PvE. Therefore, you cannot expect legendaries to be obtainable by playing exclusively in WvW.
And if you’re going to talk about buying them from the trade post, well you make gold in WvW too; so that’s a moot point.
Why can’t we get the same chest we’re getting from champs by killing a player? I don’t want to receive grey trophies that do absolutely nothing but waste my inventory space…
I’d like to think I don’t really have to answer that one…
lol, i don’t think he means literally give champ chests from players. i think he means “make the bags of loot that players drop an item that can be stacked and opened later, like champ chests”, which would make inventory management on WvW heaven. you’d have player chests and NPC chests (as well as champ chests from lords). regular enemies would presumably stay the same, given their loot tables are probably reused from PvE.
No…if you read his post, he’s pretty much asking for champ loot bags. Those “trophies” he’s talking about already stack and so do the heavy loot bags. And now the badges go in your account wallet so those aren’t even an issue anymore.
It may be nice to see a ‘player’ loot bag made for WvW, but then would you get sellable loot bags from them or just loot? You’d have to make one for each ‘tier’ of player level you currently receive loot from, so you definitely wouldn’t be stacking only one ‘player’ loot bag.
And then how would players take to losing their magic find in WvW? You don’t get MF when opening bags, but you do get it when killing players. If all players dropped were ‘player’ loot bags, your MF would be nearly useless in WvW. Don’t tell me people wouldn’t start flame threads over that, they absolutely would.
The issue is a lot more delicate than people would like give thought to.
^^ so much this.
I, and perhaps, a few others, raged at a few guilds for scheduling GvG in wvw during primetime.
But scheduled wipes, and GvG’s will always be slower than PvE. Why? Because of the level of organisation required, and the fact that, for the individual player, he’ll be spending time dead and waiting for a res instead of activly farming mindless mobs.
You guys are wrong on so many levels.
It depends on how much they add. They could go overboard and drop champion loot bags for every single player killed. If that were the case, you’d have massive amounts of players lining their pockets by cooperatively slaughtering one another for in-game wealth.
The amount of organization required is there, but it currently isn’t worth it. If you don’t think that people would cooperatively kill-farm en masse, you are severely underestimating the length players will go to exploit the game as well as the number of players who are willing to do so.
Eh, I hearing stuff like this, but WvW remains excluded. For example, there is no reason why the 5+ hour achievement infinite watch tonic should not work in WvW. After spending the ridiculous amount of time required to get it, it should work in WvW any anywhere else.
Many PvE consumables are unable to be used in WvW because players can always find ways of abusing them. Instead of allowing abuse and exploitation of unforeseen mistakes, they just disable them.
They’ve been down this road. It was ugly.
Besides that point, your point is slightly off-topic. People want time spent in WvW to mean as much to their character as time spent in PvE, not the other way around. Time spent in PvE is already extremely valuable in WvW.
None of the traits that apply an extra percentage of damage or crit chance show up in the hero panel. They never have.
Rangers are unparalleled in ranged damage when you count their pet. Anet has already stated that some months ago. They’re a pet class. The pet has to count at some point. It can’t just be some sort of extra thing the ranger gets that nobody else has.
Guardians do have very low access to conditions.
Personally, I’d like to see everyone else’s access to conditions be leveled out with the guard, but since that probably isn’t going to happen, he needs more condi application.
Torment would be a good fit for many things.
- Shield of Judgement – Damages and applies Torment to foes; applies Protection to allies
- Permeating Wrath – Your Virtue of Justice now applies both Burning and Torment
- Hallowed Ground – Provide Stability for allies and apply Torment to foes
Just to name a few.
Here’s to hoping I don’t get flamed for this idea, but it seems to me that condition clearing isn’t enough because conditions are being applied way more often than was the case prior to release…due mostly to players understanding their immense power and playing the game better.
Instead of just giving a flat nerf to condi duration or coming up with some sort of new boon that eats condition duration (like we need any more boons/conditions), why don’t we implement a specific playstyle condition clearing system. When you play a certain way, it counters specific conditions. These would be outside of your class or build.
Some conditions have exceptions, but here’s a quick list of what I think you could make as hard condition counters:
- Weakness – Landing attacks reduces Weakness duration
- Vulnerability – Getting hit reduces 1 stack of intensity
- Torment – Moving reduces Torment duration
- Poison – Receiving HP reduces Poison duration
- Immobilize – Attempting to jump reduces Immobilize duration
- Fear – Exception Condition, counts as both a condition and a control effect
- Cripple – Moving reduces Cripple duration
- Confusion – Using a skill reduces 1 stack of intensity
- Chilled – Acquiring Burn condition negates both
- Burning – Dodge roll reduces burning duration
- Blind – Already hard-countered with attacking
- Bleed – Exception Condition, no counter but to clear
Fear, Chilled and Bleed are slight exceptions and here’s why. Bleed just straight-up does damage. There’s really no reason to hard-counter a condition that was meant simply to damage, not to control the way you play. Fear is always short, won’t stack, is removed by stunbreakers and you’re immune to it with Stability up. There’s enough counter to Fear.
Chilled should only last for short periods of time and classes who frequently apply Chilled are not without burning. The ele is a prime example here. If you have a Chilled target, it creates a situation where you don’t want to immediately swap to your Fire attunement and hit him with Burning. If you’ve just used a Freeze Grenade on your engi, you want to avoid the Flamethrower kit or stack Blowtorch with Rocket Kick. The necro would have to think about whether he’s building for crit and damage with burning or fear and chill…sort of a ‘hot’ necro or ‘cold’ necro.
Well you get the idea. I understand there would have to be a few skill tweaks and trait tweaks with classes that have specific applications and removals…that comes with the territory of a change like this.
I also realize that it might be too late in the game’s life for a change of this caliber…and if it is, its just too bad. This is exactly the kind of gameplay countering that should have existed in the first place.
Good, bad, thoughts, etc below…just please don’t flamewar about the condi meta, we’ve got enough of that.
OP Troll-built faceroll thief aside, the bunker perma-regen “never press 6 ftw” warrior build needs a nerf.
I predict something like:
- Unsuspecting Foe trait moved from Adept to Master Tier
- Blademaster trait moved from Master to Adept Tier
- Adrenal Health moved from Minor in Master Tier to Major in Master Tier
- Cull the Weak moved from Major in Master Tier to Minor in Master Tier
- Inspiring Battle Standard changed to provide healing instead of the Regeneration boon
- Healing Signet base heal reduced; healing stat effectiveness increased. A net loss for non-heal stat builds only
Bottom line is Adrenal Health is too powerful as a minor and Cull the Weak is a pretty “minor” trait…wouldn’t you say? Banners are invincible perma-regen sticks…no build on any class should be able to perma-boon, fix it. And being able to couple 50% increased crit chance with 25% increased damage from hammer attacks with a 30def/30dis build is just OP amounts of damage coming from a high defense, high life, bunker built class.
Healing Signet just needs to be a more cleric-gear oriented skill. Its powerful enough to use as a CC build with zerker amulet/jewel. That’s exactly what they said wasn’t the ideal for the skill…yet after the changes, it’s the EXACT ideal.
Karl was going on a couple weeks ago about how the Warrior can’t bunker as well as a necro or guard. Well guess what man, he’s better than both right now.
Uh oh, its Daecollo…the friendly neighborhood warrior troll.
His suggestions are all OP and he cries at people who disagree. Check his post history. He’s been here a while.
Honestly with the amount of time he spends on the forums added to the amount of time he says he’s played, he’s found some way to travel back in time and add more than the 24 hours of existence we’re allotted each day.

Nothing cancels Rush outside of swapping weapons or getting hit with CC.
No, Rush just needs to change period. They’ve proven that over an entire year they still cannot make that skill land properly on anything but a like-sized, motionless, NPC target.
This is how I translate this most of this response:
My statement doesn’t require translation. WvW is a part of GW2, it is not its own game, it is not a standalone product and it is not separate from the game. Your characters from WvW are usable in PvE and vice-versa for a reason. I love WvW and prefer it to the rest of our game, but I still go and run Living World content when I feel like it. The idea is that all of our players create an ecosystem that is interdependent. If players only played one or the other, each area would be less compelling and less fun. Sure, there are some number of people who only play WvW, but more people play the rest of the game as well. If people had to pick which to play WvW would have fewer people playing it, period. Don’t confuse my belief that our game is better the more people you find around you with some sort of slighting of WvW or a statement that WvW is second best. I focus my efforts entirely on WvW every day of the week and I will continue to do so. We want everyone who buys our game to play as much of all the parts of the game they enjoy because that is what we do.
it look like, you want us to play PvE, but its not working/people dont want to play pve.
Wow. Are there elves and pixies outside your window too? Open your eyes to reality, there are even more people in PvE now that they’ve made champions worth fighting.
The only reason I doubt this is true is because Anet doesn’t like to do “across the board” changes like this. It’s hard to quantify the effectiveness of a straight 20% damage reduction to a whole host of skills that are used in different ways.
That being said, mesmers aren’t in the clear by any means. The nerfs will keep coming to that class, as they have since release. It’s too easy to play a mesmer by juking your way through a fight and letting your conditions do all the work.
Its just funny to listen to the mesmer players talking like they know how the game works. Remember when their illusions weren’t effected by blinds? Ah good times. Good tears over balance changes.
We’ll be seeing more. Don’t worry.
Imho thiefs are OP. they kill people with 1 or 2 blow from behind in WvW. If guildwars wants to be a topgame they need to balance this char way better.
And yes i’m fully exotic lvl 80.
And?
To be full exotic means nothing.I know warrior and engineers that kill you and 2 more with one attack from your front.
And thiefs can only hit ONE enemy with high dmg and not till 3 like all other classes. In fact, thiefs are to weak, special because they must play with 25/30/xx/xx/xx do reach high numbers and dont have any defence skills.
Oh and btw GW2 is a team-oriented game, so solitary (+FullBerserker) players have no business here!
In your opinion, thieves are weak because YOU build weak…period…end of discussion. Try a troll build, you’ll never die.
No its not focused on damage…which is why most of the thief community doesn’t roll it. Most of you people want to stealth+stab+dead people like its some sort of WoW clone. No, it isn’t. Sorry…you’re not a rogue. Deal with it.
Most of the thief community is: “Erp erp nubers and stabby stab erp numbers erp”
wow you guys at Anet censor “d ………. erp” ? …. what the fk….

Unlimited use that takes up one inventory slot. Did you just forget that? Not everything is about money.
These people are trying to calculate savings. If you buy it because you WANT it, well that’s on you. There’s no real logic or economics behind wanting something.

You can buy Fine Salvage Kits with karma.
Did you forget that?
Great, not my point.
Not exactly sure what yours is, but mine is that this gem store item is a waste of money and inventory space.
Seriously. It’s 2013.
Though, to be fair, they started working on GW2 in 2007.
Based on an engine from 2004ish.
all of which is irrelevant and my pc goes cpu nuts
Well yes and no. The CPU may not be getting overwhelmed but the way the engine is written tells your machine how to allocate memory, bandwidth, and processing power.
This is exemplified in games now being written specifically for multi-core processors; which didn’t happen in the past since processors were only one individual chip. Older games will not make use of your 8-core Intel chip even if it means eating 100% processing power on only one core and slowing the game down.
The setting adjustments you can make currently will expand beyond just WvW, and simply be a game wide setting you apply for culling rules. For most folks, this means you can adjust the settings to actually improve your performance over current performance if you wish, since fallback models and name-tags are cheaper than full model renders.
If you do want to turn everything up to insane, you also now have that option to see an extremely large number of people in all their graphics glory. The choice is entirely yours!
Would it be possible to look into getting them separated into two options early on? I’m pretty sure lots of people will want city, open world, and dungeon settings to be on full while they’re content with seeing zergs in WvW with just basic armor.
This item is completely worthless.
You can buy basic salvage kits for karma.
Did you all just forget that?
Erm, how the hell did RTL nerf hit S/D more then D/D?
With S/D you can still hit players from range, with D/D you`re stuck at short range, hence D/D got hit most from that dumb nerf.
ftfy
Eles don’t melee. Melee range is 130, the shortest DD eles have is 240.
Yes, how dare users want to play in WvW.
What’s stopping you? I still roam and zerg in wvw with my ele and I do it way better than when I go with my mesmer, warrior and ranger.
You can’t say that!
This is a QQ forum. You switch to the QQ attunement here son!
Let me bring some tin foil hats
Should be a new cosmetic headgear item from the gem store.
Why do obvious QQ whining threads like this get 70+ replies in 20 hours whilst all the constructive threads in the forum go mostly unnoticed?
If we put in half as much time into the community as we do feeding the trolls I think this forum would be a much better place.
I have a simple answer for that question purgatoryz. Many people who think they’re awesome at a competitive game pick the more powerful options. Whenever those options come into question, the common reaction is to shout-down any arguments, logical or not, in order to preserve their status. Otherwise, they’d have to adjust and adapt to game balance. They’d rather not do that. In the case of Anet, balance usually happens anyway. This is when you get the “QQ Anet listens to forums!” posts in the profession forum of the class that just got balanced (BTW, that happened to the thief class a lot…still waiting on Pistol Whip’s return boys? Keep waiting…)
Thieves are not balanced…yet. Anyone who plays a thief extensively knows this. Just like anyone who played an elementalist before the nerf bat hit. They’re either ignorant or delusional if they think otherwise. It’s just a matter of time and design as to what happens to bring certain aspects of the class in line with the rest of the game.
On a side note, count how many self-proclaimed ‘pro’ thief players use the term “energy” to refer to “initiative” because they just came from WoW. There are quite a lot of them.
Anyone who hasn’t played all classes during the current build is a scrub, really. There are tons of one-class-only players out there that would have you think otherwise…don’t pay them any mind.
If an enemy reaches you with greatsword, swaps weapons and uses stuns, you can be SURE he won’t be able to 100b you.
Not entirely true. If they are not in combat when they swap from GS to mace, they can swap right away. You can swap in the middle of the animation before you hit your target, stun, then swap back. Take timing but it can be done.
The real question is: If you know he’s trying to reach you and do that with the greatsword, why didn’t you just hit him once and put him in combat? Rush isn’t a dodge you know…
Those anonymous posts teaching other people’s job are always delicious. It really is a trend in our society, in computer science especially : everybody thinks that they’re experts in everyting and that their uneducated opinions are interesting.
Dev said that it’s a technical limitation of the engine. Thread closed, until they eventually change the engine or find a workaround.
Although I’m DAOC fan, which you can conclude from previous posts, DAOC devs said few things to be IMPOSSIBLE to do, then few years later they achieved impossible
Actually, I’m myself a programmer, and few times I did impossible things, too
Did you make a computer-generated model of the universe where all stars are made out of cookies and use it to convince people that all stars are made out of cookies? If it was made on a computer, it just has to be true!
Anet def seems to have some lemmings…
I know right? Whats with all these people coming up with intelligent counter-arguments to the moronic “just add more” stance that is so OBVIOUSLY right. I mean geez…what lemmings…
BTW, check your sig.
We run with 5 or less nightly… We start fights with 5 and end fights with 5… There are a handful of teams with that same mentality…so when people lose to us…. We rarely see them return with the same numbers. Diff topic.
I was referring to the part where your sig says “just add more”. Apparently that went over your head and you started getting mad about PvP-related stuff. You take this game too seriously.
And telling me to be believe Anet is truthful and that their head is in the right place (when for the last year their “upgrades” to Wvw have been siege masteries and allowing porting thieves) is about as believable as Obamacare being what the US needs….
I never told you to believe every last thing Anet says, but you clearly have no concept of how servers, game engines, and APIs work (or anything program-related for that matter). Your “just add more” mentality is in the wrong place, sorry. Programming doesn’t work that way. Player skills are balanced around a small target limit and that’s where they should stay.
Just because they haven’t given WvW the same amount of added content that PvE has gotten doesn’t mean its terrible. And it certainly isn’t comparable to Obamacare. Their game is mostly PvE and their focus shows that. WvW will continue to get new content though, and they’re working on a new map as well.
Please don’t call your comments intelligent counter arguments.
You can call my comments whatever you want, and so can I. Though, if you’d only comprehend what you read instead of getting mad, you’d have realized I was referring to others on the thread. You know, the ones you called “lemmings”.
Excalibur exemplifies how thieves attract the noobs and allow them to think they’re good at the game.
A thief-only player complains about the warrior’s mobility. ’Nuff said guys.
The thief class is just the uber noob-squasher that makes other noobs feel pro.
Yaks are worth 3 points no matter how many people kill them. As for the points per player kill, well, we explore many ideas over the course of development and I’ll never say never.
Well, if and when this is added, it will just give you guys more incentive to balance thieves out there in WvW. So I say, go for it!
Anet def seems to have some lemmings…

I know about the weapon swap key " ` ". I’ve researched on how to set up weapons for swapping but can not find enough info. Any real help would be appreciated.
TIA.
Well firstly, you need to be a class that has multiple weapon sets available to swap. Elementalists and Engineers will not, but all others will.
From there, enter your character sheet (I think it’s “H” for hero) and look at where you place weapons. There should be two places to put a main and off-hand. Put your first main and off-hand weapons on, and then place the second desired set wherever the empty slots appear (top or bottom set, it doesn’t really matter which).
The problem is, if you’ve never equipped a second set of weapons, you cannot swap to an empty set and you cannot quick-equip weapons in a non-existing set. The very first time you do it, you have to do it manually.
Yaro Devon has said that the servers wouldn’t be able to hold higher AOE so simple solution upgrade servers, there are many other games out today that can hold amazing amounts of action and graphics for their games namely example the battlefield franchise with their frostbite engine! If you are talking about their money than I’m sure that I formation is available with their yearly profits reports and such along with over 3 million copies sold within a year
“Action” is a subjective term but a game like Battlefield 3 (soon to be 4, yay!) does have superb graphics. They are indeed superior to GW2. However, Battlefield 3 only has a small selection of actions players can take on a limited amount of gamespace with a maximum of 64 players. GW2 trumps BF3 in number of actions, number of players, and amount of access to gamespace at any one particular time during WvW.
I’d rather have the current system over unlimited AoE targets on a 64-player map of “Stonemist Castle”.
(edited by Redscope.6215)
Pretty much the solution is anet needs to put in some extra $$ which we know they have and make a major upgrade to their servers which are honestly crap for modern day tech
I’d be interested to see exact specs. Do you have a source or can you elaborate more?
Of course he doesn’t have a source. Neither does anyone else trying to say they know what Anet does/uses for their servers. All they know is that they don’t like it so it must be crap.
The truth of the matter is, regardless of their capabilities with their servers or the game’s engine, the skills are balanced around having an AoE cap. Deal with it or play another game. Here’s an option, go back to DAoC!
For god sake, thieves should not be able to spam perma-stealth with this easy as pie black powder heart seeker combo. Not only can they stealth with it, but it is extremely hard to interrupt because the kitten field blinds you too (and they’ll probably just stun-break or shadowstep away even if you do). Even if you manage to get them on low initiative or health for half a second they can just use their heal or utility to stealth until both regen (which takes no time at all). Throw 2 thieves in the mix and you have an unkillable duo since they can further stealth eachother with shadow refuge and smoke fields even when one has it on cooldown/has low initiative respectively. Maybe if thief was properly designed to be ineffective with low initiative there would be no problem, but because their dagger autoattack is supremely effective (especially when stealthed) there is absolutely no disincentive to blow initiative on stealthing at every possible opportunity.
In sPvP it may be fine because you can’t take objectives while stealthed, but in WvW skirmishes this is beyond broken.
if you catch a thief on low initiative you should be able to kill them. if you can’t you should stop playing
speaking of which how badly were you rolled today by a thief?
If you get caught as a thief, low initiative or not, you’re doing it wrong. Sorry. Practice more, forums less.
Simple question. Why is there an aoe cap? And no, please do not come up with that “technical limitation” lie. There has been thousands games before this with massive pvp and no aoe cap, why would your engine be somehow so infernior to that of these older games?
What you seem to be missing is that technical limitations are not about the fact that a solution somewhere may have existed for some other thing. Our game is using an engine that has these technical limitations. We could, for instance, display everything as text, which would solve the problem quite nicely, however we’ve found that our graphics offer something a text-based MMO couldn’t quite deliver. The point is, it is very much a limitation of our engine. The load on the server CPU would be quite simply unsustainable if we were to increase the AoE cap as the more players hit by skills the more calculations it has to do and it actually starts increasing exponentially, rather than sequentially. We continue to seek out ways to squeeze more performance out of our game and our servers, but it is highly unlikely we would ever make a change to the AoE limits on player skills.
Or you could just say, “Because skills are balanced that way, duh.” … I’m sure we’d all understand.
I’m curious as well! Is there a possibility that you’re experiencing heavy latency? The skill itself has about a quarter second cast time (and cancels other skills that are already casting).
I’m curious as to why shooting someone in the head does the least amount of damage a thief can possibly do. It is literally their lowest damage weapon skill (tied with black powder)
There’s a skill like that on every class. The one skill that does the least amount of damage when compared to all other skills. The one for the thief is Headshot, and with good reason.
Do you want everything to do equal amounts of damage? That would be senseless…
Just because its called “Headshot” doesn’t mean this is Counter-Strike.
I knew this thread is gona make blind spam thieves mad, but well is a cheap mechanic really, its a really bad implemented core mechanic is the thief itself, they, because of that spam mechanic should have not easy acces to blinds, im tired of seing blind spam on thieves its ridiculous is cheap.
excuse me but if u see a necro’s well would u stay on top of it ?
That statement would make sense if necros had initiative and were able to spam wells all the time. Since they don’t, lets get back to how thieves need to not spam blind.
Also, the Well of Darkness is a dark field. Projectiles lifesteal from a dark field. Black Powder is a smoke field. Projectiles and whirls (two things that thieves do a lot of) blind from a smoke field.

Thief blind doesn’t need nerf. It’s part if our defense. We don’t have endure pain or mist form or elixir s, etc. All we got is blinds and stealth and evades. All which can be countered, unlike a endure pain or mist form, etc.
L2p or nerf it and give thieves invulns.
Another single-class thief player posting “L2P” … yawn.
Now if he said “L3P” we’d have a discussion on our hands!
In an effort to stay on topic, the only reason I can see why they haven’t made two upgrade slots for two-handed weapons is because all gear has only one upgrade slot period.
It will be interesting to see what they do with ascended weaponry and armor. Maybe they will finally alleviate this situation. Or at least give an equal stat bonus from two-handed weapons when compared to using two weapons.
Because the basic-damage of those weapons are higher + weapon-traits synergyize better with affecting 5 skillz instead of 3 or 2, which is mostly the case for one-handed weapons.
Even assuming that you are right (and I think you are not), it would be better to ballance those weapons on the damage-side, allowing the players more versatility on their builds.
What I said is fact, it’s not something we assume. Basic damage is higher (proof ingame or consult internet), Traits which boosts one-handed weapons mostly affecting 2-3 skillz (rare exceptions on dual-wield), while two-handed weapons are fully affected on all 5 skillz.
Lowering the basic-damage and add a second weapon sigil, could be fine. However, I think it is well balanced as it is right now.Weapon damage is absolutely irrelevant, because actual damage done differs based on skill damage, which, guess what, change with a weapon. In fact, 1H weapons in this game often outdamage 2handers, because actual weapon damage means total jack when it comes to skill balancing, it’s just here to mark your progression by getting a better weapon.
Thanks for being someone who plays Guild Wars 2 and not Google Wars 2. Numbers listed on the weapon are meaningless when the skills change and have their own multipliers. Anyone who can’t see that is playing with a pen and paper.
The whole trait debate kind of makes sense on paper, but actually doesn’t. 1H weapon traits also affect an off-hand of the same type, which makes one trait affect all 5 skills as well. Also, many of these “2H” traits don’t really benefit many skills. For example, Greatsword Power or w/e it’s called on the Warrior, hardly helps with Rush and Bladetrail that hit once or twice, it’s all about 100b and auto-attack. Cooldown reduction portion of traits, sure.
The cooldown reduction in and of itself isn’t powerful enough to be a major trait for one specific weapon. That’s why they’ve coupled multiple weapons on many of them as well as added other bonuses. I don’t think there’s one weapon cooldown reduction major trait in the game that simply has one weapon type and no added bonus.
Because the basic-damage of those weapons are higher + weapon-traits synergyize better with affecting 5 skillz instead of 3 or 2, which is mostly the case for one-handed weapons.
This is completely your own opinion (skillz? really?). Any weapon-specific cooldown reduction of 20% that is applied to one-handed weapons would apply to all 5 skills when using that weapon in either hand. Most traits that apply a cooldown reduction to skills also give other bonuses and apply the reduction to more than one specific type of weapon.
The basic damage of the weapon means absolutely nothing when considering the skills themselves have specific multipliers that are all individually chosen.
