oh I don’t need you to sell me the build or justify yourself. youre obviously a newer player so im just trying to help you. if it works for you, have fun.
Well my dear sheep, I’m not selling anything, just answering your question by explaining how the build works, If using metabuilds and not thinking by yourself is the only thing that works for you, have fun.
that doesn’t work with the current state of the ranger.
you MIGHT be able to pull it off when the new specs come out if you go 6/0/6/0/6. rangers are weak in melee (unless condi bunkers) and don’t have any spike (maul is too unreliable). damage is too low unless you go zerker stats. but with the BM tree revamp, I think cleric or cavalier stats will make the melee ranger pretty deadly. I think the cleric power BM bunker is gonna make a comeback.
Then why do I get so many kills in sPVP with it?
It’s not really meant to be meta but a fun 1v1 build.
Anyway the goal of melee ranger is to evade and dodge (which gives protection btw) very often. You don’t need much armor, since you have almost perma vigor.
Most of the time I use rune of the pack to get perma swiftness and fury, so that I can even switch out signet of the hunt (since speed bonuses don’t stack) and take muddy terrain instead.
While quickened the sword autoattack will melt anyone and can’t be kited.
Also timing your poison right will makes healing less efficient.
Looks like an interesting build and glad you’re having fun with it. unfortunately you wont be able to make it anymore once the core changes come down the line.
Yup it’s pretty cool if your team notice you share aegis.
Which change are you referring to?He is referring to the change to traits that is coming up.
You will be maxed at going into 3 trait lines.
You will however get a full 3 lines worth of traits & many of the traits that have to do with certain effects to abilities have been merged.
Your build will be more or less achievable by going zeal, honor, valor then grabbing a shout build.
(Shouts will be even better since tome of wrath is becoming a quickness/might shout & all shout traits are being merged allowing you to grab other traits)
Oh I see that’s going to reduce the build possibilities so much unfortunately.
Well tbh shattered aegis and inspired virtue could be dropped for something better anyway.
Something like this would allow to share virtue of resolve, heal with dodge, heal with mace, heal with weapon swap: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNApdRlsApUo1BxRI8DNBARZVAg9KMD3w1VQHUnA-TJxHAB1+EACe/BAOFAKVGAA
Is it correct that traits wont be linked to stats anymore?

Fun build for sPVP: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAsYRjUqUwaLLmsQ1agDhq5K8BMDg19dVss38FnUhE-TZBFwAPeAAx2fYxpAoaZAAHBAA
Swap Pet gives 3s of quickness every 16s
Sigil of Rage gives 3s every 30s
Quickening Zephyr gives 6s every 48s
total time with quickness 41.25%! Wut?!
The build also has 53% base crit chance and weapon swap gives 5 sec of fury (and swiftness).
I like using the 2 wolves pets with this build because they’re tough to kill and have great utility skills and deal very high dmg. (they both have +30% crit damage from the traits and improved attributes)
You absolutely don’t want your pets to be defeated cos that would extend the swap cooldown to 48s and that’s less quickness!
There’s only 1 condi removal in this build but it’s really good, it comes from the rune of Lyssa, when using Entangle, 5 conditions are transformed into boons and it also gives 1 random boon when using the heal skill!
If you think you’ll need more you can remove 2 from skirmishing and put in wilderness survival for the GM trait “empathic bond”. Or use a brown bear

Surprised no one has said anything, but I really like the sound of this!
Definitely gonna give this one a try specially as it means playing something other than medi guard or shout for that matter.
What’s even cooler is that come Heart of Thorns, a DH can do an aegis build as well using the Fragment of Faith trap and other traits.
Either way, nice job Revan and looking forward to give this one a try and get some practice with it!
Thanks and enjoy!
The build lacks a bit of power and might but you can still deal decent dmg with greatsword burst and sword auto attack, but you get much more team support than shouts imo, especially if you can time your aegis/blind properly to counter big damage and also you can get double aegis for your team, for instance if you use Retreat! and the aegis applied to your allies pops before yours, they’ll get another aegis once yours pop because of the GM trait, important to keep in mind in order to maximize the effectiveness.
Blocking with shelter also triggers aoe aegis btw
I heard with HoT all spirit weapons traits will get fused into 1 (duration and cd reduction) and maybe rework the AI, which would make the shield more viable, right now it’s on a too long cooldown…

Another weird build that somehow works lol.
I tried it lately and that seems to work decently well in sPVP at least with a decent teamp since it is a support build.
This build has 6 source of aegis, the theme being that when you block you give aegis to allies within 360 radius with communal defenses (valor trait XIII), popping an aegis you applied (on you or your ally) wil heal you back for 700 each and damage ennemies.
The build also has many AOE blinds and weakness for additional damage reduction.
Blind also give 3 stack of vulnerability.
I even did the math …
Aegis : 1 every 8.3sec
Blind : 1 every 7.1sec
It’s pretty fun build
Shield of the Avenger can be switched out for Stand your Ground if preferred.

At the moment, LoW(traited) and Shelter HEAL THE SAME.
But each has an added effect to chose from, 2sec block that can help stack might if you trait in Valor or the 6sec healings based on the damage.
LoW really shines when you have access to AOE skills because the more targets the more heal multiplier.
If you can burn let’s say 4 foes around you for 3k each during the duration of LoT it’s already 3K heal. Not accounting for any raw damage you might do. Shield of wrath is AOE, Whirling Wrath is AOE, symbols are all AOE.
Now tbh Shelter wins in spvp because of tactical advantage of preventing burst while making your foes waste his burst cooldowns on you. But on pve with multiple targets LoW is clearly better.
In order for Litany to have chance to compete with Shelter in spvp it would need:
-to be instant
-to be a stun break
It would make sense for litany to become instant like all other meditations in some time.
And that way foe would be less likely to notice it and kite you when you use it.
I agree last version was missing condi. removal
I’m still hesitating between purity and retributive armor…
(1 condi removed every 10s versus +7% crit chance)
I’m also hesitating between runes of the flame legion (7% dmg against burning foe)
or rune of fire (10% might duration)
Fiery wrath + radiant power and flame legion rune means +27% dmg against burning foes.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQRAsf5enkIS5QWNEeDB/QmIeIse8drqgr/3zB-T5QGABA8AAGZ/hmLDAA
Here’s the updated build with slightly more power and burn duration and 1 more anti stun (contemplation of purity replace m intervention), but I’m wondering if it’s really worth speccing into long burn without considering amplified wrath (+33% burning damage). The main benefit being the +27% dmg on burning foes. Maybe powerful blades instead of lower cd on torch since they’re already only 15 sec.
The torch is really decent imo because it burns aoe and does decent damage (way more dps than focus if you consider the awful cd. Cleansing fire is more situational it can be used against players not in range of the sword attack or to remove conditions on allies which can be sometimes very useful.
The only problem is not having combo finishers.
I’m ok with having only 11k hp because meditation are instant and I have 2 stun break and 2 condi removal.
@ SlayerSixx: While it is true that having high hp and high armor is the best. This build just couldnt work without right hand strength so is therefore not applicable to warrior. Guardian are meant to have low hp because of the teleport, the blocks, and the heals.

it works with cleave and aoe deer sheep
Pretty fun and weird build that I’ve been running lately:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQRAsf7enkIS5QWNEuDB/QmwfoseBqgAArG86SoF+AA-TZRGABA8AAS4kA0y+DNXGwgjAAA
It uses right hand strength (15% crit chance with 1handers)
and retributive armor (7% toughness conv to precision)
with a Cavalier amulet (power +toughness +ferocity)
Rune of the traveller works well with it too since you need to stick to your target to really deal the sword damage and it adds to might duration.
I like the shield 5 a lot in combo with merciful intervention and the torch skills
for casual sPVP ya know…
