Maybe you should learn how to use it properly
Maul is the highest dmg dealing ability of any ranger weapon dealing around 8k traited correctly.
And it’s not a channeled ability it’s similar to Evicerate.
Of course it can be dodged but thats what 4 and 5 and muddy terrain are there for.
Use moment of clarity and remorseless to get the most out of it and don’t forget to rapid fire the target for 10 stack of vulnerability.

The problem is the autoattack it ahs very low damage and would be terrible if not for the evade that can be used twice if you know how to.
Also the counterattack is way too slow and the hilt bash is a nightmare to land especially behind your target because of the self root and short range.

Just give them a 10,000 passive range. That is what it would take if they persist with non-movement.

Effect recharge: 10 sec …?
Active Effect Cast Time = 4sec …??
Damage Scaling with traits/stats NO…. ?!?

many problems with the spirits but the range is the least of them well that is for the normal ones.

In order to work must:

A] Stay alive in the middle of a point with puny health
B] You being so close to it that you literally have to clip with its model to get the effect off, another excellent strategy to improve synergy with the team support and his survival chances as he’ll get cleaved/aoe’d to death.

If those 2 requirement miraculously works you should get an incredible bonus for your whole team right? wait…

Applies to allies a “strong” healing effect that has the great idea of, like all other spirits except sun, not to scale with the ranger’s stats.

-Also applies 1 stack of stability in a 240 radius every 3 second for 1 second…

So rampage , strength of the pack, plague, all recharge 3 stability stacks every 3 seconds Okay because it affects the whole team it should be toned down but this? 1 stack of 1sec every 3 sec? leaving you 2 sec without and only 1 stack reallyy?? wtf??
1 stack of 3 sec every 3 sec in a radius of 600 sounds like more reasonable for a 120s recharge elite that does absolutely nothing except giving a additional regen.
Eventually it could also remove 1 condition per sec in the same radius.
And the active effect could heal and remove conditions on non-downed player as well.
AND SCALE WITH HEALING POWER

Even with radius updated condi ranger would still suck in terms of damage.
And have no defense mechanism like stealth, endure pain, blocks etc…
Traps without ground targetting and 1 condi per tick will always suck etc…
All other classes can apply kittenload of different type of condis with just 1 hit so just play pewpew or another class.

Applying a short duration reveal when a stealthed character gets hit is just the perfect way to fix the gameplay believe me. In counterpart backstab should be more powerful since it requires to sneak in close range but not mesmers.

Invulnerability is not passive. it’s a very short duration and long cooldown type of skill that prevents burst but you still suffer conditions applied prior. D’you even gw2?

Mesmer has the most invulnerability 3sec every 50sec and they can even attack while invulerable unlike guards, mesmer have 6% invulnerable uptime
“Endure Pain” is not invulnerability it’s subject to conditions.
“Shelter” is not invulnerability some skills interrupt through blocks by necro and ele.

PU Mesmer have around 50% stealth uptime
D/P Thief have 100% stealth uptime.

Easy access to stealth and the long duration brings cooldown grinding strategy, boons harvest for mesmer, initiative and heal for thieves. On top of not being attacked.
This is what passive means

My suggestion would require a few changes to core skills of course like increasing backstab damage.
By making it impossible to be revealed for the first second you can still be quick and go for a backstab during that second but if you want to regenerate/grind cooldown for your venom and what not, you’ll have to take your distance otherweise you’ll get punished by applying 2-3 seconds of revealed which simply makes much more sense from a design and gameplay standpoint.
Stealth shouldn’t be safe now button it should require a little bit more skill than that.

I think this should be fixed and it’s simple to do:
Hitting someone in stealth after the first second they entered it (with aoe fields, cleaving attacks or projectiles ) should reveal them for a short duration
That way the thieves / mesmers would not be allowed to sit comfortably in stealth waiting for cooldowns in the middle of a fight, instead he/she would have to carefully watch for oppenings, what his opponent is doing, when to step in, rewarding good positionning and smart moves.

The NPC battle system mixed with PvP reminded me of moba elements mixed with tower defense lol.

If the opening strike refresh on fury was made a minor combined with all current minor,
Remorseless (the +25% dmg on opening strike) could still be a viable GM trait for melee ranger and Lead the Wind would be for Longbow.
I think predator onslaught could totally be replaced by something more fun like “when you hit a foe with 25 stacks of vulnerability, inflict fear on this foe”
Since piercing arrows requires perfect positioning in pvp and we ranger don’t have blink nor the greatest mobility of all classes I suggest as new minor trait “Cheetah Sprint” grants you and your pet 2 seconds of superspeed on succesfully dodging an attack.
And also “Dreadful Strikes” As long as a foe you hit has a vulnerability active applied by you, he will apply vulnerability every second to his nearby allies (vulnerability applied by this trait arent considered applied by you)

^ a way to get around the root problem that cause your 2 and 3 unresponsive. It basically make the 1 auto attack on demand only, upon pressing. It also reduce the likely hood that you’ll get thrown off the ledge since you can stop your auto attack instantly.

With the new 6/6/6 traits the opening strike minor traits has become meaningless, because before you could pick only half of a tree so it did make sense back then.
Not anymore if you pick marsmanship you automatically get all 3 so having the effect split into different traits is just arkward no downright stupid.
If you don’t take remorseless they all become wasted and we know that lead the wind is far superior to remorseless because of the 10% passive dmg boost and the piercing arrow adding a maximum 500% dmg boost by positionning in line with multiple target, knockback several targets with point blanck shot or rapid fire etc allowing us to pressure a res or simply shooting through mesmer clones for example

IMO remorseless along with all other minor traits should be combined into one.
And use the free spots to add something new.

For maul I prefer moment of clarity that adds 50% dmg on the next attack when interrupting anyway.

Trooper obviously cause im using shouts, so i get 2 condi clear every 16sec on my command and the rest are useful in both ways.
(they fixed We heal as one and Strength of the pack with trooper)

Oh I see so that’s how you did to skip wilderness survival right?
The taunt radius is still bugged for birds and bears..
and it scale up when using signet of the wild lol.
Which makes some pets unusable

I really just want storm spirit to scale his stats with my crit chance and power so I can hide him in a corner and if a thief attacks me I run to the spirit and explode it in its face for potentially 10k dmg with 6 sec daze
And if they could fix the health pool and the animation speed while at it and improve the trait from nature magic as well…

There are a few more Guardian traits working like this:

Radiance IV: Signet of Wrath when you crit somebody.
Radiance V: you get the Torch#4 ability when crit somebody even if you don’t wield one.
Honor II: Shield of Absorption (Shield#5) when you revive an ally
Honor III: Symbol of Protection (Hammer 3th auto) when taking falling damage.
Valor II: Smite Condition utility when using a Healing utility.

I hope this helps you to get better understanding how some of the traits have synergy with others.

I feel like because of that the torch is so much superior to the focus at the moment.
Being able to throw 2 torches in a row is just insane, with marauder amulet it crits for 2 times 3-4k + 1k ticks of burn even with 0 condition dmg.
Of course shield of warth does slightly higher damage but it wont always explode and has 3 times the torch cooldown …
And justice is blind is still very strong.

I just wish it was a projectile finisher to synergize with symbols

No a Guard with zerker amulet is basically a freekill that doesn’t even deal more damage than a marauder warriors.
The fact that Guards dmg cant compare to Warriors is due 2 things first they need either barbarian or marauder amulet for the vitality being a melee with 11k is just not possible so its a dmg loss.
Then Warriors already have much higher dmg multiplier on autoattacks and skill and can use berserker amulet because of their high vitality.
Also they can ignore team spike for short duration while still attacking for 16 seconds! nothing like renewed focus that removes point capture contribution!

The only class that downs good ele (not buttonsmasher) are ranger longbow because its the hardcounter but they’re never in pvp.

Except Ranger is hard countered by Cele Ele, when both are played to their maximum xD

Theres a reason why warriors are always picked in pvp over guard and the rare guards in pvp always use bunker build
Aegis doesn’t do anything in teamfights
Endure Pain / Defiant Stance / Defy Pain are simply superior and due to the higher base hp warr can use zerker amulet and retain survivability and sustain.
And they already deal more dmg on base stats.

God mode? I make burst an ele in a teamfight in maybe under a sec. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Eles have never been more balanced. pre patch D/D could tank 2 people on node and be fine. Now they melt in a 1v2 in 2 sec. You need to learn when to time the stuns and snares rights. Immobility and chill is the new stun now.

I think youll get chilled by hitting the ele and he’ll get protection, then he switch to earth laughs at your crits negated while putting bleeds on you and can then either run away faster than any class can follow or heal more than any other class.
In conquest that means they’ll never go down and waste the time waiting to rez.
Find me a single replay where an ele goes down and it wasn’t a missplay.

Why do you expect perfect balance after the biggest class changes in months no in years this thread is kittened just by the name.

I main an ele and I decided to play my ranger all week-end… I never had it easier in months. The sustain vs damage ratio is kittening absurd even when playing zerk like I did. I’m death from 1500 or more and the pressure I impose on extremely low cool down to my opponents is hard to outplay. I call massive BS on any ranger nerf. The thought it was more powerful before is mind numbing to me.

Ahaha an ele coming to ranger forum to say ranger is OP lool.
You probably were downed by several rangers while in water because of 1500 range nukes and it feels so weird cos no other calss/build can down that easily the godmode d/d ele.
If you encounter a zerker ranger and don’t suck you should find a cover and there’s plenty in pvp maps.
The only map where it works resonably well are legacy and silent storm.
And all other specs don’t work anymore soo no ranger isn’t fine.
Even the best spec we have available (longbow) is bugged because all skills will stow at full cooldown if interrupted. So for mesmer it’s full cooldown+15sec.
And greatsword 4 and 5 need serious improvement as I and others said already

Guard! nerf? Is this a joke

Omg this build has so many poor choices I’ll just name a few:
Healing spring is the worst choice possible for a settler build
Take Heal as One instead drop Guard, drop signet of stone and signet of the wild take protect me! and signet of renewal take Beastly Warden.
Leave that warhorn that make no sense at all and take offhand dagger to benefit ambidextry.
Invigorating bond doesn’t work it heals just your allies and even if it did work it’d still be very inferior to protective ward.
You need the blue moa for the extra protection and and drakehound for the immobilize every 16sec with taunt because it’s a 100 times better than honored axe.

I’d also go with rune of adventure + double sigil of energy if you wanna survive.

Yea! It works well I switched frost trap for viper’s nest to get more condi dmg and heal reduction. basically it relies evading a lot and getting auras out of leap finisher and traps there’s also the blast finisher from warhorn which gives 3x might for 30sec or area weakness for 10sec the bear gives weakness too and after dodge rolling I get protection so it’s more tanky than it seems. And rune of adventure + double sigil of energy makes this build dodge a whole lot.

No all pets taunt is instant, for canines it’s the immobilize / fear that has a cast time (and a bigger radius)
As I said birds have another problem which is the radius of their taunt
Moa are the best taunters right now.

Basically power ranger needs at least 4 things to be fixed (not talking about other builds)
- Remove the full cooldown stow on longbow skills
- Make the greatsword more powerful on the autoattack, imo slice and slash could be sped up that way increasing dps but also making us dodge more quickly.
- Counterattack needs to be sped up too, it’s way too easy too notice the animation and dodge away additionally Pommel Strike range is too short, I think it shouldnt root but be like maul, usable while moving
- Let us cast maul while in the air <3<3<3 plzplzplz anet
- Wilderness survival is mandatory for any ranger build, this is pretty dull they should fix it. aka put empathic bond in beastmastery where it belongs
- All classes have received baseline improvement on their F skills except ranger, we were supposed to get pet stats improvement but nope.
- The 3 minor traits of marksman and the first 2 of squirmishing should be combined and add 2 new ones seriously go look at any elementalist minor traits and tell me in the eyes it’s equal in value…
….

That’s just for power ranger, i’m not talking about traps, spirits, torch, axe…. etc.. which have way more issues than longbow greatsword tbh.

Only if you’re using birds coz they’re more consistent. Other pets are likely to miss their taunt since they will do it instantly when you press F2. Due to the small radius of taunt, they will most likely miss. Birds on the other hand will track down their target before using taunt.

Birds or canines. With a wolf you can chain 3 hard CCs in a row.

Yea I know. But I’m preferring birds over canines now. I’m finding canines’ taunt harder to land due to the F2 telegraph + small radius. Birds taunt pretty much land every time.

Lol birds have 120 radius taunt, canine have 240.
The dog is the best taunt pet because of it’s 16sec cooldown.
The only issue is that, like birds, the wanna reach their target before using F2 making it sometimes miss.
Birds have really nice dps (especially hawk and eagle) but they taunt radius is smaller just like bear and spiders, which is kinda kittened.
From my testing the most practical pet to use for beastly warden are moa because they always activate instantly when you ask and with the right 240 radius.

Another thing to know is that signet of the wild will increase taunt radius by 50%.
Not sure weither that’s intended

Let’s list then, shall we?
Lb= RF spam (power)
Sb= 1 spam (condi)
Sword= 1 spam with the evades thrown in when necessary (either one)
Axe= 2 spam (condi)
Greatsword= 2 spam (power)
Not listing offhands because they have nothing to do with this.

All of these for the respective builds you use them in are spammed pretty much off cooldown to maximize damage done by the build. It’s simple, I’m not saying ranger players are mindless spammers, I’m saying that the way ranger maximizes damage is the exact reason that they will not be able to be competitive until changes are made to the design of the class and it’s weapons.

Part of it is due to a little thing we all know as a skill ceiling. Due to ranger being spam focused the skill ceiling is significantly lower than that of an engineer, thief, or Mesmer which is why it doesn’t have much of a place in competitive teams. The skill ceiling is not very high for the ranger due to the fact that they are not combo based and because they are limited in what they can do, it’s quite easy to outplay them after you figure out what they are running. Ranger has more limits than almost if not every other class in this game by design. Until that is changed ranger will continue to be bottom tier.

Is battlefield a spam game because you fire a rifle?
I can see for the longbow. Where you get most of your damage through the use of autoattack but even then the dmg is based on range, piercing arrow combined with point blanck all that isn’t spam.

@Revan, that’s why it’s called an EXAMPLE. If I were to list out every single thing that rangers spam to do damage it’d be an unnecessarily large wall of text nobody would bother to read. Also, as longbow is the most popular weapon for ranger currently in pvp, it is the most relevant to use as an example. And to clarify what I meant because based on your reaction I didn’t word it very well in my first post:
RF is the main source of longbow BURST damage. Sustained damage is the auto yes, but when a ranger bursts they don’t sit on their auto attack for longbow, they use rapid fire because there’s a higher dps output from the skill than the auto attack.

The point still remains that ranger is a spam focused class which is their main obstacle when it comes to balance. That’s what the part you quoted was for so I’m not sure why you chose that specific part of my post because it has absolutely nothing to do with your argument.

No your point is not valid, ranger isnt spam based longbow is.

I haven’t refined it AT ALL, and a LOATH the fern wolf. That being said, we have a pet… that can taunt an enemy WHILE healing your team for 4.3k (2.9k from trait, 1.4k from F2)… We can AoE regen with our shouts… and condi clear with SoR… The damage isn’t terrible either. Hopefully someone can run with this idea.

Natural Healing is trash too I tried it.

The thing is they thought it was ok to add more radius and remove the mobility, but they didn’t fix anything else they just removed their best trait mobility, and told us to like the change period.
The animation and slow cast time of active make them irrelevant and the passive are bad effects that triggers once only every 8 seconds. complete trash
With all the bursty players around and the necessity to drop your spirit in the middle of a point they have 99% of dying before smash the ground animation ends.
Coupled with a terrible trait that pulse terrible boons but only a fraction of the time if you’re in range just another joke, oh wait nature spirit pulse stability? yea forget it nature spirit has 240 passive kittening radius.
Last but not least spirits don’t scale at all with the ranger stats like power crit chance, healing power and so on. The only that does is sun spirit which also has a much faster active animation, because it’s the ony that was updated, accordingly to the trait change.
That alone shows the level at which Anet gives 0 kitten about rangers, updating just 1 skill in a set and making it behaves differently for no reason.

As someone said in another thread, they could just delete ranger class and start over, there would be the same amount of work to do.

Condi Ranger is such a joke right now the only way to capitalize with bonfire is to use axe offhand for the burn whirl finisher, but it’s still bad axe offhand isnt optimal for condi.

Condi Warriors hits you just once in melee and they inflict stacks and stacks of torment, confusion bleed criple and so on, so easy.

The flame trap is just the same it has low cooldown but its useless during its total duration it gives 3 stack of 2.5 sec burning pretty harmless

The best use for bonfire I found at the moment is for might stacking on a power ranger.
You fire 1 arrow while out of combat, switch to sword/torch before projectile connects drop a bonfire, once projectile has hit switch pet for blast finisher and ideally switch to juvenile jungle stalker.
With this combo I’m at 2615 power and 74% crit chance.

Ele is broken good at high level pvp, it’s a clothy nearly impossible to down meaning they’re not likely to go through respawn timer, versatile they also have the ability to win any 1v1 fight which is kittened, they can also tank 2v1 easy, have the ability to chase any class and decap fast with high mobility.
I’ve never seen any pvp team not running 1 ele most have 2.

The devs don’t care about rangers, they’re not incompetent either they just don’t give a kitten about the viability of spirits and traps in spvp, the changes they made for 23.6 patch ruined the build diversity leaving only power ranger as an option and removing 90% of the funfactor of the class. And no, taunt doesn’t make up for all of that loss.

… except ranger due to the design of the class being spam focused … look at the way ranger builds play, most of them rely on spamming some sort of skill to do their damage.

Longbow isn’t the only weapon rangers have and for your info rapid fire isn’t the main source of damage for power longbow builds, it’s actually the autoattack. (RF does only about 20% more damage than autoattacking, it hits quickler but smaller hits)
Longbow is the only weapon viable at the moment cos everything else sucks pretty much.

Mesmer aren’t that strong at high level tpvp but the blind through everything should be fixed just like they did for the ranger taunt.
A simple fix to the annoyance level of the class would be to make any phantasm apply reveal to the mesmer if they hit anything meaning the mesmer would have to shatter before stealthing

mesmers carry in “high level tpvp”. meaning that a benchwarmer like backpack can learn it a week and carry the Abjured. only at Arenanet. ESPORTS!

Along with elementalist they do have some of the most OP traits and it’s a low risk high reward class but it seems to me that a well played thief will often win the burst spot in a team over mesmer because of the venom sharing and better decap potential.

Also I’m quite sick of seeing people claiming Ele or Engi “need more skills to play” lol..
Clicking more bottoms =/= hard to play. It takes about 30 minutes to learn the rotation if you’re already a veteran player of this game and know the concept. (and know how to set hot-keys)

Also, Anet never nerf Ele for more than 2 years, while constantly nerfing Ranger no end.

Spirits take 2 seconds to cast and 4 seconds to activate and on top of that have crappy effects.
Traps are like dead since you can’t launch them anymore and the amount of condition they pulse is funny at best, their sole purpose is the combo field .. I guess
Why dyou expect rangers to play anything else than longbow with this state of balance?
Piercing arrows actually reward skill, through active positioning, not pressing 1-2-3-4-5 asap like eles like to do lol.
Greatsword is a great model of how melee weapons should be in this game, reacting quickly and appropriately without much room for mystake. It’s fun and rewarding but once again underpowered.

1 sec knockdown is huge.

No it’s not.
Someone with stability will waste 45sec cooldown
Someone dodging over it will waste 45sec cooldown
Someone blocking over it will waste 45sec cooldown
….
Thief have trapwire, a trap that untraited knockdown 3 seconds and apply 8 seconds of cripple for a cooldown of 30 seconds

On top of that it can’t be stacked like healing spring and traps can’t be launched anymore making it a defensive tool only

It should either pulse knockdown either reduce the cooldown to 25 seconds.

Just so you know rapid fire aka pewpew is not much better than autoattack, about 20% more dps. It’s just very useful if your target come close when the range-based bonus damage of longbow 1 isn’t there.
