So they nerfed MF in addition to tossing in DR, eh? When did that happen?
If you rewarded people for reporting someone, you’d get massive amounts of people reporting everyone in sight, because people suck.
Just enjoy the fact that bots, spammers, and other undesirables will be handled accordingly
Enjoy the massive fanboy aggro. Every time one of us complains about the lack of endgame content a dozen of them show up telling us that we “played too much” “rushed to 80” and “burned out the content” etc.
Apparently the way the game is “supposed” to be played is taking a 5-hour break each level to do competitive synchronized /dance competitions in Lion’s Arch.
WTB more endgame.
As far as “ANet doesn’t make any money when you buy gems with gold” goes, that’s false. Every gem you spend, whether you bought it with gold or real money, was originally bought for real money. Especially now that the gem supply/demand is more or less stable. So every gem store purchase is removing gems from the economy, which were originally bought with real currency.
In addition, when more people start buying gems with gold instead of money, it makes the gem price go up, and therefore makes it a better option to buy gems to sell for gold. Thus, the process is fairly self-regulating. So by adding more items to the gem store that people want, thereby increasing gem sales, they’re making more money regardless of whether people are buying gems for gold or real money.
From what I’ve been told, GW1-style capes are in the works and were even intended for release, but they ran into a lot of clipping issues with them so they decided to hold off until they’d look good. So, backpacks for now, capes when they’re ready.
And in the meantime don’t give them the idea of making us pay money for them if they’re gonna give them to us fo’ free ;p
Anyone else notice that being an NPC guard is pretty much a death sentence? 90% of the towns I’ll walk by, all the guard by the gate will be dead if there’s a hostile mob anywhere nearby. Patrols are even worse off… they will never, ever make it from point A to point B unless a player saves them.
Just seems kinda silly to me. Why even have them if they can’t fend for themselves at all? All it does is clutter up the map with “fallen ally” icons. Now I understand that there are some “hearts” that have rezzing NPCs as an objective, but I’m talking in general here. Being an NPC guard is a death sentence.
A couple issues I’ve noticed:
1. Guards almost universally lose 1v1 to the majority of mobs in an area.
2. Guards don’t seem to have “social” aggro, or in some cases any aggro. I’ve seen a group of guards by a gate, and one will be under attack by a mob or three while the rest just stand there until they are physically attacked themselves.
3. “Patrol” guards usually don’t stick together, or rez one another. What this leads to is a patrol of guards that might have been strong enough to fend for itself and look cool doing it loses members bit by bit, and then when they’re rezzed by players they aren’t a patrol anymore, just a bunch of individual guards wandering around getting picked off by the local wildlife.
Anyone else think these hard-working guys deserve a bit of a stats boost? Not saying make them all Determined Legendaries or anything, but at least give them a fighting chance?
Had the same problem, I was 5 salvages short when it rolled over last night. I blame myself, AFAIK it resets at midnight PST. Should have noticed that the price on salvage items had increased by about 50% in a few hours =p
If they put the “micro” into micro-transaction, I’d buy a lot more stuff. For instance, I’m not going to pay $2.25 US for one black lion key, ever. Especially since your return on that investment, is, at best, a couple transmogrify tonics and a random booster… most of which are cheaper to just buy themselves, along with the guarantee you’ll get the one you want.
If the keys were, say, $.25, I could see myself buying a few dozen. As it is now though, the Collector’s Edition upgrade’s about $30 USD as opposed to the $10 extra it would have been if I’d had an extra $3 in my wallet when I picked the game up at Target. Bought it with gold conversion back when it was 1g = 500 gems, thankfully, but I don’t see anyone paying three times as much money for it if they wanted it to begin with.
As for new stuff?
Town clothes that fit the fantasy theme
More armor/weapon skins (GW1 Kurzick Warrior heavy armor pleasepleaseplease!!! =p)
Unique ranger pets would be cool
+1 on the character customization
Unique hair/face styles for character customization
Social animations
I noticed a huge difference a few weeks ago in Cursed. Was getting 3-4 Rares per DE with 180% MF. Last few weeks though, it’s been much lower, and not just because of DR. I’m lucky if I get one Rare every 1-2 DEs now, even before I start hitting DR. Stealth nerf?
One helpful post, and everyone else is trolling the OP for a typo. Welcome to the Guild Wars forums…
Anyway, patches usually come out at midnight PST, so if you’re like me on the Eastern seaboard, the patch is basically tomorrow =p
I think Anet would make a lot more money off of them if they didn’t cost $2.25 US apiece… I find it incredibly hard to believe that anyone’s buying the keys with real world money, or even enough to open more than a fraction of a percent of chest drops, seeing as how there are a couple million of them on the market and I’ve got almost 150 in my bank.
If they were $.25, I’d probably buy quite a few. As it is though… I can open an imaginary chest in a video game that will probably only give me a useless transmogrify tonic, or I can eat a nice lunch at the deli downtown for the same amount of money.
But we already had commandos and even Apache Longbow attack choppers in GW1…
Dark, Warrior’s F1 ability with rifle is a pretty good sniper analogue, especially with a crit build, One-shot, one-killing mobs at level 30 ATM
Just curious about what y’all listen to when you’re out saving Tyria. Here’s what I’ve been playing lately:
Human Lands: Blind Guardian – At the Edge of Time album
Norn Lands: Sabaton – Carolus Rex album
Sylvari/Asura Lands: Eluveitie – Helvetios album
Charr Lands: Pretty much anything by Rage Against the Machine
Orr: Glitch Mob (Complete coincidence which I find amusing)
…has Sohothin, Rurik’s sword. AKA the only object capable of ending the Ghost threat to the Charr. The Charr, who are currently in the middle of a war with both human separatists, and their own renegades. In addition to the massive civil war they’re already experiencing with the Flame Legion. In addition to having their whole empire pretty much bisected by the Brand, and fighting day and night to keep the Branded contained. So they’re basically fighting a war on four or five fronts, one of which is against the ghosts, who they can’t even defeat, just make disappear for a little while.
So why hasn’t Rytlock just come out and said “Hey Logan? Sorry about being such a kitten-bag about you running off to save King Doric’s last living heir, aka the only person who can, wielding this sword I’ve got here, put the ghosts to rest and save my race a whole mess of trouble and let us focus on the four or five other threats to our existence we’ve got right now. Oh, and by the way, he’s the sword. Do us a favor?”
=p
It’s not just there. Pretty much anywhere there’s a dynamic event with a quick reset, you’ll find bots, even in level 15-25 areas like kessex hills. Saw and reported 3 at the mine there when I was leveling an alt, and there are usually between 2 and 5 at the bridge.
I agree with you on some points. However, I can tell that you’re not at level 80 and that you haven’t read a lot of Dev posts. The level scaling system was intended to make the whole world a viable endgame. This is the justification for us only having a single level 80 zone, and 4 level 70+ zones. Now, after I completed Orr and went back to explore the maps that I hadn’t been through yet, they were so easy that they bored the hell out of me. The real complaint you seem to be ignoring is that when you hit 80 and finish the dungeons and story, there’s nothing left to do that’s challenging if you don’t like PvP.
The same set’s available from Dredgehaunt Cliffs, with shoulder armor as well. Level 40-50 zone, IIRC.
I was referring to the plate armor reminiscent of the GW1 Templar armor.
It seems like the guild claiming mechanic is pretty shallow right now, and all it really does is give any bonuses the guild has researched, the only one of which I even think makes any kind of difference is the supply one. I hope it gets fleshed out more in the future.
Dear God… he’s got video evidence of them using a tactic that the Devs have stated in a sticky thread is perfectly legitimate and working as intended. Guess we can close this case file.
I’m not saying everything should be handed to you, it should take some effort to get your level 80 Exotic gear, or a commander tome, or a legendary… but this system is literally the worst way I can think of to make this happen. No matter what the system is, you should have an equal return for time invested.
Maybe… I don’t know… make the PvE challenging? Crazy talk, I know…
I love how half of you are blatantly ignoring the fact that server populations in the login screen have nothing to do with how many people are online. That’s the number of accounts currently registered to that server. A server could have 1 person online and still be listed as full. Since there’s no subscription, anyone who’s ever logged in is going to be contributing to one of those server pops forever, as it stands currently, even if they haven’t logged in for a month.
Yeah, I wouldn’t invest in anything major until you hit level 80, you’ll just outgrow it in 5 levels or so. You can level 1-80 just by buying armor and weapons with Karma from completed “heart” NPCs. After that would be the time to focus on getting Rare/Exotic/Cultural gear.
The problem with that, Crib, is that it would require a rework of basically the whole game. They tossed in DR as an ineffective way to fight bots and ended up hurting the rest of the playerbase instead. Even if they did redo the whole system to eliminate the grind, it would take a long, long time, and in the meantime player numbers will be dropping like flies because of the DR system, and it’s a lot easier to keep someone playing than to get them to come back after they’ve quit. Just look at Darkfall. The game had massive interest at launch, but due to a ton of bugs, balance issues, and hacking problems, it bled down to nothing within a few months and never recovered. A real shame too, because once the launch issues got solved it was an amazing game.
Anyway, to make a short story long… whether you’re for or against DR yourself, the majority of players I’ve talked to(on this and other forums as well as in-game chat, your mileage may vary), absolutely hate this mechanic enough to cause them to stop playing. That’s dangerous.
Can we tone it down a little bit with the rhetoric? Crib’s every bit as entitled to his opinion as we are, so maybe it might be more constructive to explain our point of view on this better than to simply cop out and call people fanboys who want the game to die.
Crib, if you read the second half of my post a few minutes ago I think you’ll get a better idea of where we’re coming from. Most of us hate grinding and farming, but feel like the system makes us have to do that more to do the other stuff we like. People who like to craft and sell armor, for instance, or people who want to make money/get better gear for WvW. It’s not as if we’re all in here complaining that we’re not allowed to mindlessly kill the same mobs all day as an endgame.
Also, the DR mechanic isn’t really doing much to stop botters. I’ve seen a lot more bots start cropping up in lower-level areas with less in Orr over the past few days, and a few of them were remarkably advanced. They were actually moving between sites to bypass the mechanic. Since they’re running literally all day and don’t have other stuff, like having fun to do, the lower-quality drops wouldn’t seem to bother them as much, especially since they’re mostly hacked accounts anyway.
Next time you go through even a zone as low-level as kessex hills, keep an eye out. You’ll see the odd player here and there running into a wall for a few seconds, backing up a bit, turning a bit, then running forward a little more until they’re in the clear. Then they’ll get to an area with mobs and you’ll see the usual glitchy bot fighting. Mobs are all dead, they move on further until they find more mobs. It’s like watching the old videos of the first computer-controlled cars ten years back.
As far as Anet not wanting us to farm in this game goes, allow me to deliver my rebuttal: Legendary weapons. The prosecution rests.
EDIT Crib, you know how painful it is to shell out 1.5g for a keep wall upgrade? I do just about every day when I’m WvWing, because I want my server to win. That gold’s gotta come from somewhere. I don’t enjoy farming, but it’s necessary to get the money/items/etc I need to do stuff like that. And when the amount of time I have to spend in this remarkably dull, pointless activity is increased exponentially by this lazy solution, it makes me just a little mad.
If I want to craft a set of exotic gear, I’m going to need to do a lot of farming. I don’t like farming, but if I want to have the best available gear to be more competitive in WvW, I have to. The impression you seem to be under is that everyone who is against this mechanic loves nothing more than to sit around Penitent camp whacking undead all day. I’m willing to bet that the majority of people here who are upset about this mechanic are so because it makes them spend even more time standing around Penitent camp whacking undead instead of doing fun stuff, like WvW. I hope this clarifies where we’re coming from for you a bit.

I’m looking for the heavy armor that has the same skin as the armor Lionguard soldiers wear. I know it’s available from karma vendors, and I know that two places to get it are Dredgehaunt and Blazeridge, but I could have sworn that there was another place that offered it in a level 20ish version, because I remember having it on my Guardian around that level before ditching it for a different skin around the time I got to Ebonhawke.
Anyone know where this could be?
Hump, that’s not a solution. Firstly, I would consider that an exploit… and I’m sure ANet would, too. Secondly, the bot programmers know about this now, you’ll see bots relog every few minutes, so that loophole will probably be fixed soon.
I think it’s hilarious when people say things like “well so what if all the hardcore MMO players leave? They’re only a small percentage of the population.” If ignorance is bliss, the people saying this stuff have to be some happy little kittens. What group of players typically forms the core of any game and spends the most real world money on it? Anyway, I digress… movin’ right along.
Now, as far as the DR mechanics go, one of two things needs to happen. The first is, throw the entire system out. The second is add more high-level content OR a system to make drops scale up to you in low-level areas.
Now, I don’t know why Anet thought they could get away with having only one level 80 zone, Cursed Shore. If we had a variety of areas to go do things in at 80, this issue would pretty much disappear. As it stands though, if we want to get worthwhile loot, we’ve got to be in Cursed Shore. I’ll take a hit every once in a while when I get eyes-bleedingly bored and go to Frostgorge, but the drops there aren’t nearly as good in my experience. Add more level 80 zones, and the problem will become less of a problem.
The other solution is to have loot scale up with you. I mean, REALLY scale up with you, not just get slightly better if you’re overwhelmingly over-levelled for the zone you’re in. I’m talking level 80 rares dropping in Queensdale. The idea with the level scaling mechanic was to give players a more or less challenging experience no matter where they were. This has also failed, as the mobs in a zone you cleared at level 30 will drop the same stuff at level 80, but you’ll be scaled down so that they still present a “challenge.” For this reason, after getting 100% map completion, I have not set foot outside of Lion’s Arch/Cursed Shore/Frostgorge. I am sorry if this is not the way I am supposed to be playing the game I paid Anet money for, but it would be moronic of me to do anything else, because I like making gold. Scratch that, I like spending gold, and I absolutely detest the hoops I have to jump through to make it, especially with the massive cash sinks that are in place. As it stands, however, if I want to spend my weekend playing WvW, a part of the game I still consider amazingly fun despite the current hacking issues, I have to spend pretty much all my gametime on friday night grinding gold. Playing WvW to win is expensive. So in order to have my fun, I need to bang my head against the wall for ages in the face of a mechanic that punishes me for wanting to get my unpleasant farming out of the way quickly. A mechanic that no rational human being could possibly think is a good idea.
There’s still the option of buying gems to sell for gold… but I can promise you that, at this moment while these issues still stand, this will never happen. There’s an old saying about throwing good money after bad, and at this point, as painful as it is for me to say it because I truly, deeply want to love this game, the $60 I paid for it was bad money. The story’s excellent, the PvP’s the best I’ve ever seen, the game is beautiful and takes everything I loved about the original and translates it perfectly into a next-gen MMO… but this one, single “feature” totally destroys the rest. It’s like finding a maggot on a filet mignon. It’s a big steak and a little maggot, but it’s still a maggot on my steak, and I’m not buying anything else from this particular restaurant until they clean their act up.
Yes, using an exploit to counter another exploit is still an exploit.
I have not seen that, but I’m going to check it out. Where in brisbane?
If you keep killing the same mob type in the same zone over and over, you’ll start to see your loot drop. Usually takes about half an hour of repeatedly killing a specific type, though it depends on how many you’re killing as well, apparently. Eventually, you’ll get nothing at all. To avoid this, keep moving around the map killing other stuff and switch between zones as well. It’s in place to prevent people from farming with bots, but in general just kittens off players trying to farm crafting materials or anyone in Orr for any reason.
Oh yes, there’s Orr. Since every mob in Orr is Risen, DR kicks in regardless, so if you’re exploring Orr and killing stuff it’ll happen no matter where you go, making the main high-level area of the game effectively worthless and broken. Fun, no?
I’ve got a suspicion that Maeglin’s idea is what the first expansion will be, from some of the NPC dialogue in-game. They were laying on the foreshadowing with a shovel. Would also be very excited to see Cantha again, and playable Tengus would be awesome… though I have no idea why they have tusks coming out the sides of their beaks in GW2.
Myself, I’d really like to get back up into the Northern Shiverpeaks and the Charr Lands like in GW:EN… only being more friendly with the locals this time around. The Charr are probably my favorite race in GW2, which I never thought I’d say. Years of hatred and prejudice pretty much evaporated when I joined up with the Gear Warband in my Norn “got drunk and passed out” personal story. As far as playable races go, I really don’t know what you could add in there. Dredge, perhaps? It might actually be pretty fun to work for the glory of the Moletariat =p
It’s explained that the 3 portals in Trinity go to the 3 Order bases during The Battle of Fort Trinity, so I would assume that it’s just that and not new content.
What I’m curious about is the door in Lion’s Arch guarded by the Tengus and the other door in the Quarry by Ebonhawke.
Well, it seems like the portals in the Priory/Whispers/Vigil bases are supposed to link up to the 3 gates in Fort Trinity. I don’t know if it’s just fluff, or if they actually plan on having them work but just ran into some kind of issue, or decided against it at the last minute.
I think it’s a bad idea.
For instance, when I’m WvWing with pickup groups and there are no major guilds around doing upgrades, I’ll basically ask for a “collection” to get a WP or wall upgrade up. Ask in team chat for anyone who wants the upgrade to go up to send me, say 10s, and at least partially subsidize my cost of putting it up… since 1.5g for a keep upgrade hurts as a solo player.
Last I heard, this was considered an exploit because all “invulnerable” areas are supposed to have the 4-day siege blocker active on them as well.
As for this being the only way for defenders to take back the Garrison…. no, just no. I’ve taken back the Garrison and the two North towers multiple times on an underdog server without resorting to this cheap tactic. People who abuse exploits with the excuse that it’s the only way they can win are worse than the ones who do it just to be kitten-holes.
You know what? My initial reaction was to just immediately dismiss this as stupid. Then I thought about it a bit, and it’s actually one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a while. I’m actually all for this.
It’s really fun, but with no real rewards I doubt it’ll keep people occupied for long, especially as broken and frustrating as it can be currently.
I like how the current system actually punishes you for spending more time in WvW fighting for your server. GREAT way to boost server culture and community.
On the plus side… it’s a horribly implemented, completely illogical way to reduce queue times.
Now Valk, it’s not that I don’t agree with you, but something tells me that you’re not a very happy person and shouldn’t be playing MMOs. Escapism is bad for that state of mind.
But yes, OP, it does seem that, if I wanted a legendary weapon, I’d have to spend more time getting it if I started right now than I’ve already spent in the entire game. And that’s taking into account the fact that I already have all the badges, world completion, skillpoints, and crafting requirements. Holy crap.
Pretty cool, lol. Careful around the edge there though, don’t fall into the Void =p
Yeah, and even then those doors could have been repaired by the defenders with a couple supply runs.
Tarnin, I said in the original post that the personnel upgrades getting reset does make sense. Not talking about that. Even the siege I can kinda see getting destroyed, even though it just respawns a building site in 3 minutes when it’s destroyed if you don’t capture the keep. But those big honkin’ walls and gates? The fact that 75%+ of the walls aren’t destructible in the first place nonwithstanding.
Gold sellers now including 1 copper in their mail so you can't delete it...
Posted by: Revenant.2691
ANet’s said to just take the copper and report the message. You won’t get banned. Thread was here a few hours ago but it got locked, I think there’s an announcement about this.
Now, if they start attaching gold to their messages this could become an issue, but that would probably hurt their bottom line just a bit =p
Not the point he’s making, Swag. There are combinations that don’t exist.
Still think they should have a tier higher in stats than exotics, though. Nothing huge, just a lot more than the 11 points of damage they have now. Casual players could still ignore it and gear grind fanatics would have a goal after 80.
Problem then, Gib, is that rams could hit it from further away and possibly out of the range of oil pots.
It’s not about the stats, it’s about the prestige.
I suppose. I find assaulting a fully-upgraded keep to be a lot more fun though. It takes a lot more strategy than just zerging it to death, like a keep with no upgrades.
