I role play in map chat a lot when I’m scouting. Keeps things interesting.

I don’t feel there should be a reward for it personally. I find it a nice break from zerging and fighting. When I’m commanding, I usually swap scouts out every 15-30 minutes so people are willing to scout.

I haven’t read any posts asking about the concept of outmanned. All T1 servers, past and present, has been there.

Frankly, I like it best when we have the outmanned buff. It means that we can just get out there and have fun without worrying about repair costs and such (woo! don’t have to repair every few deaths so that your armor doesn’t start breaking). The increased magic find boost is also a sweet bonus.

Also, and I’m speaking from experience here, a 20-25 man group can most definitely hold off a 50-60 man blob. It requires a good group comp, people listening on VOIP, and good movement, though, so good luck with pugs.

We had all that. We were holed up in Garrison, keeping them from taking over as long as possible. 3 hours of work, and we finally fell because we couldn’t keep the small team of 3-5 grabbing supply and doing patchwork on the holes in the garrison fast enough. Twas a leaky boat, and she finally sank at the end of those 3 hours. Despite being trebbed at NE, rammed at Watergate, and golemed on east, we survived 3 hours. If that tells you how bad it was.

Actually it sounds like an epic farm. I don’t see why you would be unhappy about this.

Sounds like a couple of fights we had in Week 1 with SoR/BG/JQ. That’s some epic stuff man. Even when you lose your garri, you don’t feel like you lost that much cause you made it so hard for them to take it.

Speaking from a BG perspective, where we’ve had our ups and downs over the past couple months, being stomped is definitely not fun. It’s really hard to rally casual PvE players into WvW while you’re losing by a huge margin. The problem compounds itself when your opposing server is gaining guilds/players (hi SoR, we know how you feel, really, just look at how BG did just before leagues – we had the outmanned buff on at least 2 out of the 4 maps, sometimes 3 during those couple of weeks after we lost those few guilds).

It’s at that time when you play purely for fights and loot bags. It just makes the game that much more fun. Huge 60+ vs 60+ vs 60+ zerg fights during NA prime are just epicly fun, disregarding the skill lag. Even during Oceanic, which is when I log on, playing for fights will always bring rewards when playing against quality opponents (hi JQ). Who cares about holding a paper tower when you could wait for their zerg outside and fight it out. Even when your zerg is only 20 people strong against a zerg twice your size. Build an open field arrow cart or two just for lulz if you have to. :P

BT guild from Mag, you guys are really disciplined in moving around the map real right. Props to that.

Still, remember to take out siege afterwards :P

Well, all 3 borderlands had no queue tonight during OCE time. Guess living world story pulled our PvE players out of WvW :P

BG has placed first in all their matches so far as well as winning 13 out of 14 matches with SoR. Still waiting to see where BG was in such dire straits.

Oh ya, SoR had higher ppt for a few ticks one day out of the week.

I do find it funny that BG keeps using the match before Leagues as proof that they had it so hard when most servers took it easy to get ready for League. Even some of the BG forum warriors even commented as such.

Why do you keep bring up the match before seasons? Yes we took it easy that week but to be honest JQ would have probably won even if we didn’t. We understand you think BG is the bestest but you should really stop discrediting SoR and JQ. All the trolls and chest thumpers aside, there are still a lot of people on BG that have huge respect for JQ and SoR and know how good they can be.

Side question for ya, what does 13 of 14 matches prove when SoR is well known to play for fights and that PPT is just a subset of why they are out there? From my understanding a lot of SoR guilds feel as if they won by having a exciting match rather than seeing a higher score at the end of the week….

Yeah this is a rant, but this game has become achievement driven and although I love WvW, I hate JPs. I guess I need to loiter around in EBG until a Stonemist castle siege occurs… and repeat 5 times. Yay queues!

Most of the achievement requirements are stupid. Only 450 kills required for legendary defender? I’ve gotten over 5000 kills so far during leagues. Yet, we need to take mercenary camps 50 times? I’ve done it only 3 times.

I’ve basically been forced to do JPs to complete the meta because I rarely go to EBG and I rarely stay at sentries to cap them, unless the commander uses it as a rally point. I doubt I’ll complete the repair achievement or the yak achievement either, but we shall see.

The only match up that matters is your 1v1 against JQ in week 5.

If you win, you win the league. Even if SoR and JQ double team you in week 7 and force you to finish last, you’d still win the league with 31 points vs 29 points for JQ.

If you lose, you’re going to finish second. After this whole fiasco there is no way that SoR/JQ does not double team you in week 7. You guys are good but you’re not good enough to stop 160 players on every map.

I’d rather be double teamed all week (giggity) than pvdoor all week like we’ve been doing recently. Bring it on I guess.

Probably every server has experienced this, either recently or in the months gone by. It is really hard to push players to enter WvW when they are losing, even if the fights are incredibly fun.

Playing against SoR the past 2 weeks has really highlighted this problem for me though. Low morale from just 1 server can really affect the matchup as a whole. We in Blackgate expected a strong SoR that would really push us, which is our respect for them considering our history. Once we crushed their 18k point lead last week within the space of 2 major time zones though, they simply stopped showing up. Prominent SoR players have said that they stopped playing overtime or showing up at all, because it was impossible to win – something which really surprised a lot of Blackgate players.

This low turnout from SoR has also caused a worryingly low turnout from Blackgate too. Several times during SEA and EU time zones, there has been a lack of commanders to take over maps, as well as only having EBG queued unless the float team moves to a map (which queues that map).

I can only write about this from my own point of view, but looking at other posts in the forums about other servers, the problem is even worse (Karma training the day after reset and such).

Can rewards in WvW be balanced out in order to attract more players, especially if their server is losing? Would that even be a good idea? What could be done to attract people to WvW regardless of the score?

Low morale is a big issue in WvW. It’s extremely difficult to come back from a bad reset night, and even harder when you’re outnumbered in 2-3 out of the 4 maps.

I wonder if SBI and FA belong in gold though. Looking at TC, SoS and Mag scores (and tactics), I doubt they would’ve done any better…

The way it looks right now, it’ll come down to week 7 and JQ and BG will be fighting for the title.

I have no illusions that SoR and JQ will make it extremely difficult for us to win. We saw how many people you were running in your late OCE/early SEA tonight SoR. You can definitely field the numbers. Haven’t played against JQ without SoR since the week before Leagues, when a lot of BG were resting. Hard to say how we’ll stack up against JQ.

Eh, I was there. You guys had plenty of numbers. That screenshot doesn’t really show the whole picture. Every time you guys pushed out with 20~ heavies or so, we would push around you towards your squishes that basically stood in one spot. Easy bags. You had around 40~50 people there.

I have never been abused or anything when playing for SoR. Not sure where you get this information but I have found SoR quite fun to play with.

A number of posts in this thread would suggest otherwise.

To be very fair though, we also had the same problem with commanders and pugs. It just hasn’t happened very often.

BG is definitely overstacked right now, that much is obvious. I actually took up sPvP (barely did that before) while queueing for WvW. That said, lol @ some people complaining about population. I suppose they’ve never actually played for servers like Maguuma or TC against the T1 servers.

Still I give SoR credit for actually playing now. Even if there aren’t enough players to field zergs on all four maps, as long as players concentrate on say 2-3 maps that’s still enough for games.

Otherwise met my first Blackgate commander who was playing not for points but rather for open field combat … despite knowing there was a full SoR zerg on SoR BL, he still led BG zerg to Titan. First time we wiped, second time I pointed out that there was no way we could win since SoR are so close to spawn, but he went ahead anyway and we wiped again. gg, I won’t be joining his zerg in the future.

Hey man, when I was on SoRBL earlier, we were trying to lure SoR out of citadel to fight us open field. That’s when we found out that there’s a little bit of land both sides of the portal in north camp that allows you to be invulnerable while still outside of the citadel.

I prefer open field fights rather than fighting under 5 arrow carts firing down on you. I’ve also noticed SoR commanders have taken to spamming ACs in engagements. That kitten hurts man!

From week 1 results, it was a very good competitive match. Did you actually need to go out and recruit other?

Again just an honest question, no QQ or not trolling. Just curious the reason why.

ZDs originally turned us down apparently. Most of us didn’t expect them to transfer over when they did.

There has to be a bug of some sort. SoR is queued right now on green and we can’t get more than 20-25 rallied on our commander. We’ve checked every inch of the map looking for 55 other people running around doing their own thing but they ain’t there.

There were 50-60 SoR on your home BL earlier on. Did you guys check the north east and north west corners of the map? That place often has events popping up and might attract PvE players. There’s also veteran warg, harpy and wurm on the southern side of the map that might attract players, though anyone roaming there should be killed pretty quickly all things considered.

I also see 10-15 people in JPs every time I take a peek in there.

This is why everyone is giving SoR as a whole a ration of kitten.

SoS knows more than a few things about being outnumbered and having a sea of red coming over the hill. You move maps, you float; and then you come back when that blob gets bored or distracted.
You can even just lock down Vale and siege it up and make it a prolonged brawl to keep the BG zerg on the map and busy.

SoR used to play the underdog game better than anyone in NA. You’d seldom win, but everyone knew that if they turned their backs for even a second, that you’d take them down. SoR vs SoS in T2 a year ago was far more competitive than SBI and JQ were in T1 at the time.

You guys need to get that mojo back.

BTW: Thank you to everyone cheering on SoS to try for 2nd; but it’s simply not in the cards in regards to late morning and EU coverage. We’ll be working hard to keep the score close but we still have queues measured in seconds (not minutes) in NA prime and as much as our EU groups do for us, they don’t have anything like a “blob” on most days and have one of the most thankless jobs on our server.

Hit and run tactics for PPT work pretty well when you’re outmanned. Take camps and paper towers just before tick, then run back and let someone else take it for wxp and karma :P

We’ll still be cheering you on SoS, cause you come out to fight even though you’re facing double or triple your number. That’s respectable.

TC is a great WvW server, but lacks coverage across all time zones except NA to compete with tier 1 servers.

Glad you’re enjoying WvW. The learning curve isn’t very steep (just jump into your server’s VOIP program such as teamspeak, ventrilo or mumble and follow the commander’s orders), but the amount of time and gold required to get the necessary gear might be off-putting to new WvW players.

My level 22 guard has rank 15wvw after 3 hours of karma training. It’s not a good factor to prioritise queue over.

Why do certain people from BG care whether SoR puts up a fight or not? Worry about your own server, and let SoR handle it’s own. The politics and health of another server shouldn’t be anyone’s business but their own, regardless of who they are.

The vast majority of the BG posters that post their vitriol, have some unhealthy hate for SoR. Holy crap, it’s a game. Is this the common mentality of people these days? To irrationally hate someone they’ve never met, to the point of wishing that their community will implode?

The anonymity of the internet makes it so easy for someone’s true nature to shine through. That’s not always a good thing to see.

e.g. Fann Wong. Every post I see from him is diplomatic and friendly/kind in nature. I won’t name names for the opposite types. You know who you are, and it would likely result in the post being removed.

TLDR: mind your own server business, and let SoR take care of it’s own.

Read up on some of the history behind SoR and BG/SoS and you’ll see it is well deserved. SoR had this coming.

Donating gold for transfers to help get guilds across doesn’t equate to buying them.

The benefit with golems is that they are mobile. Should any mastery be added for them, it should probably only be for defence rather than any offensive type masteries. They are already extremely powerful.

QL is remarkably easy to defend. A few well placed arrow carts and trebs can let 5 people hold out against 20-30 long enough for your zerg to arrive

Not surprised. There’s been quite a lot of terrible posting from all 3 servers the past couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, in Silver and Bronze tier, the difference between some servers are so big it becomes a karma train 12 hours into the match

From my own experience:

1) You shouldn’t be dying if you’re on the commander tag. 90% of the time, if you stick on your commander’s tag, you’ll outlive everyone else in the zerg. Keeping in mind this is from the perspective of an elementalist, who can basically get bursted down in 2 seconds by a condi-necro or thief. A commander pushes to break AoEs and achieve certain strategies within the zerg. People have different reasons for pushing, so I won’t be talking about that too much here. Pushing against another zerg is very situational afterall.

2. Siege needs to be refreshed at least once per hour or they despawn.

3. Supply could be better used to build siege equipment rather than repairing gates. Not sure which server you play from, but we would often let the wall open and instead build 2 arrow carts to defend the choke point rather than fix the wall up and waste the supply when it’ll be trebbed or cata’d down again in 1 minute. Fix the wall up after you’ve cleared out enemies. Also watch for the “Reinforce/Fortify Wall” upgrade. If that’s nearly up, then don’t put supply into walls, since once it upgrades, all walls go back to having 100% hp

The best Oceanic coverage at the moment would be either Blackgate or Jade Quarry. Jade Quarry also has a strong SEA coverage which overlaps with late Oceanic coverage, so you’ll have a lot of people to play WvW with there.

SoR should have a lot of people in this time zone (HIRE, RISE, OCX) but I haven’t seen much of them in WvW the past week.

If I remember correctly, SBI should also have a decent Oceanic coverage. A lot of my RL friends play there.

I’d just add that you should consider queue times (particularly over weekends), which can be long and therefore frustrating on BG, JQ, SoR.

EBG queue was 5-20 minutes long (lol @ random queue times) at around 11pm AEST Saturday night. Not really an issue

I have. It wasn’t that there weren’t fights (there were – I was on SoRBL so I kinda expected at least some resistance), but that SoS were showing up more than you.

Also, I will not be a part of spawn camping. In my personal opinion, it’s something that shouldn’t be done no matter how much you dislike the enemy server. It also discourages fights

Like there aren’t records of PPT and scores of weeks and months prior to me joining WvW. Like there aren’t posts about guild movements during the time I was away from GW2. It’s the dark ages amirite? No recorded history at all according to this guy!

BG hasn’t changed much in its core WvW guilds. It’s gained a few and lost a few. SoR’s core hasn’t changed much either. Why are you guys bleeding numbers all of a sudden? Too many fair weather players?
