BG didn’t quit after being down 18k points last week. We rallied our players and committed overtime to make up the deficit. SoR just disappeared. Where the kitten are all your warriors? Ticking under a T2 server this early on in the week is disgraceful. Props to SOS for bringing more fights than SoR.
My level 22 guard has rank 15wvw after 3 hours of karma training. It’s not a good factor to prioritise queue over. Perhaps prioritising certain guild tags over others? That way wvw guilds can get their players in faster, and it would also help with recruitment.
BG vs SoR round 2. FIGHT!
Never been matched up against you before SoS. Really look forward to meeting you on the battlefield.
How is BG pounding SoR like that anyway?
Variety of factors including RL issues with some of SoR’s commanders, low morale and burnout. That, and BG fought hard after the weekend to catch up again. Saw many many NA players during my oceanic prime which was pleasantly surprising.
That is basically their own fault we are not out there because they were there spawn camping its that simple if you can’t see it I guess get somebody else to explain it to you.
Pretty disappointed this happened tbh. This is pretty heavily looked down on by myself and the people I wvw with. I’m guessing they were bored out of their minds because SoR wasn’t showing up at all though. They honestly had less map presence than TC last I was on.
There was one time when we marched our entire zerg into TC’s spawn with a couple of omega golems though. Marched them right up to the legendary defenders. That was funny. 20+ people insta killed
So many ideas here that I don’t agree with. There should be NO punishment for off-peak players. Why must it be that I earn less points when I play during my “prime time”? That’s even MORE unfair than the current situation.
Instead of punishing us Aussie/Kiwi/South East Asian players for not living in NA, how about something more constructive? I saw a post not too far above by JQ player that I strongly agree with. A catchup mode. That sounds pretty good.
The idea I posted before about removing the bottom tier WvW servers and making them transfer up (free transfers) also still seems viable in my opinion.
I have an idea that’s been swirling around in my head for a few days now. A lot of people might not like it, but it would DRASTICALLY balance both coverage and population.
Many ideas so far has been punishing those who don’t play during their server prime time. This has angered me a lot, playing from OCE time. I don’t want to be punished for not having a dedicated server in my region.
Instead of reducing PPT during offpeak hours or whatever, my idea is this:
Close WvW on the bottom 6 servers in both the EU and NA region. Encourage transfers from NA to EU and vice versa from those servers into higher tier servers.
My reasoning is this: Many people play WvW for large scale PvP fights. I don’t want that to go away. The only issue is the lack of coverage a lot of servers have. We have too many servers and not enough players. To combat this, why not reduce the number of servers that have WvW? There’s no excuse about the PvE side of things since you can still guest for free, and it greatly increases WvW population on Silver tier servers and up, increasing competition in both EU and WvW while hopefully reducing queue times by encouraging movements across continents (in servers).
It’s not a fully fleshed out idea. Criticisms are welcome.
What I love about WvW is the siege battles. Defending or attacking a well defended tower or keep is just amazingly fun.
I find this whole discussion obnoxious.
Perhaps…maybe…the problem is that JQ BG and SoR are so stacked that they just assume they will win over the number four ranked server TC?
We’ve played against TC numerous times. Whilst they can bring a good fight, their coverage just can’t compare to T1 servers.
/laugh
WvW is a PvP mode. Once you step inside, get ready for fights. It’s not sunshine and rainbows here mate.

@Reverence wow that’s great, what are your speedtest results?
Exactly the same as yours.

Quickly checked it myself. Playing from Sydney, Australia. Getting 180-190. Blackgate server
You need to talk to your server mates.

have been constantly bumped to the front page for months now, and remain bumped even after the leagues started and many of your server have complained about the queues.
If you know already that there’s a wonky queue system, adding more numbers and recruiting more would certain exacerbate the problem no?
Recruiting guilds that WvW isn’t the problem. Stop saying it is. It’s never been the problem. Guilds that transferred to T1 servers did so weeks in advance of leagues. We didn’t have these kind of queues back then, but we do now. It’s not because of transfers.
I have sympathy for this SoR guy cause I’ve had the same problem in Blackgate, the least stacked server out of the T1 servers at the moment. 5 hour queue to get into a borderland. Have only gotten into EBG once after a 30 minute queue at around 3am PST. That’s NEVER happened before.
I’ve just been PvEing while waiting these days. Doing all these PvE stuff with my WvW gear isn’t fun.
kitten trolls taking over this thread
Good luck SoR and TC. It’s been a frustrating night, but I’m sure we’ll catch up.
Our home BL was queued for an hour and when I got in, I found around 20-30 people stacked up on the commander. It was freaking pathetic T_T
if all bronze servers would stack up into one server – SOR would rage quit. Don’t doubt it.
You’re assuming that T1 servers don’t have pure roaming guilds. Roaming/havoc/zerg busting in T1 is much harder than it is on bronze tier since the entire WvW map is covered with people that are doing the same. I assume you’ve never played T1 if you’re talking about skill lag auto attack pvdoor.
Interesting how the only matchup that’s competitive this week is ours.
Probably an even bigger issue than the Gold league schedule.
Omega Golems are to WvW what Healing Signet is to warriors.
Does this mean umm… for beating a warrior (Omega golem), you have to use poison (scouting) against them. If you failed or cant have poison, you could try to lure them to use all the active defenses (kill the escorts) to take it down. Or maybe you could try to just burst it down (burst it down).
You see what I did there?
Guessing you never fought a 20+ golem rush. It’s near impossible.
-snip-
From my experience in T1, too many people I’ve come across are upleveled or undergeared for WvW, resulting in us wiping them over and over and over and over again despite either being equal in numbers or lower in numbers, though we’ve been getting wiped or an extended fight when a decently sized organised force of WvWers float into the map (Hey Choo!) because we have the same problem. I’ve been running as both a Staff and Dagger/Dagger elementalist, both of which are sort after more for support than damage and I’ve been doing more damage to these guys than random monsters on the map.
I’ve also seen some incredibly stupid roamers trying to farm the ruins. They’re trying to cap the circle even though there’s like 5-10 people running through. Hey guys, we’re not your PvE mobs, we WILL kill you.
This is giving us an incredible amount of points simply through fights. I’m thinking that JQ and SoR will start doing a lot better once those guys either 1. stop going into WvW or 2. fix themselves up.
These achievements are just making it impossible to field a sizable zerg to take stuff when there’s a decent force from the other servers on that map too. It’s just not conducive to trying to win. It’s incredibly frustrating to see people capping ruins when we already have bloodlust.
It’s a sad problem that servers are so imbalanced other than the T1 servers. I’m still having a blast in WvW though. Thanks for the fights SoR and JQ
To the BG Charr in the Omen guild, I hope you are having fun in that tower for 3 hours. Good job on those ACs.
Omen are dedicated as hell and awesome people. I can’t say enough good things about them
To SoR fighting to retake Hills in BGBL today: we had fun, but eventually couldn’t hold out. You guys had so many people! We weren’t even queued
Also, might want to tell your pugs to gear up properly. We melted them so many times cause they were so squishy. I’m pretty sure all 3 of us T1 servers have that problem though. So frustrating to see some upleveled or zerker geared guy die in 2 hits from lords or the initial wave of a fight.
I think I need to put more than the 2 cents here I put in before
I joined WvW 2 weeks before leagues started (so about 3 weeks ago). Before that, I had taken about 10 months break from GW2. I went into WvW not knowing what it was about, and getting my kitten handed to me every time our zerg met the enemy zerg. At the time, my gear was almost completely full zerker, and I wasn’t even level 80. I ended up completely changing my traits from mainly power to mainly vitality and toughness before learning what gear to get.
Guess what? I now have full PVT gear (cost me less than 30 gold for runes)and learned to use different trait builds for different circumstances (i.e. havoc/zerg/turtling). It’s NOT hard to learn. There doesn’t need to be some massive buff to the downed state because someone doesn’t want to build tankier. That suggestion to the buffed state would literally make me invincible, since I’d be able to res myself after I mistform out of the fight at any point. It would also mean spiking people that can’t exit out of the fight in their downed state that much more important because of bloodlust (and make any real buff to the downed state completely and utterly useless).
It doesn’t take long to learn the basics of WvW. It takes maybe 1 or 2 times dying from jumping off a cliff to get fall damage reduction in your traits. You should be thinking of building tankier after dying 4 or 5 times in zerg fights and watching everyone else around you live on.
Learn WvW builds just as you learnt your PvE builds. It doesn’t take long. This suggestion that new PvE players entering WvW should get some kind of buff is just ridiculous and stupid. Shame on yourself for even thinking of it. WvW players don’t get it easy when we’re running fractals or dungeons, why should PvE players get it easy when they’re in WvW?
(edited by Reverence.6915)
Yeah, honestly, Gold tier is far more unbalanced than either Silver or Bronze. The difference between the top 3 and the next 3 is just huge. Any of the bottom 3 of Gold tier can double-team one of the top 3 and still lose.
I’m pretty sure that in Anvil Rock, you guys can muster up your PvE players enough to mount some kind of offensive in order to get a decent finish.
Maguuma has the right kind of attitude in Gold. They’re just there for the fights. I look forward to meeting them on the battlefield.
Kind of moot point with finishers don’t you think? Most commanders would scream at people to spike rather than dps because of the points available from bloodlust.
It would be better to encourage people to invest in Knights/Invaders armor and survive longer rather than band-aid patch the problem. I mean, they’re pretty cheap to get. Around 20 gold (not including badges) will get you a whole runed up set.
What does an ele do after he throws down his lightning field? (that everyone avoids easily because a zerg to us is a havoc crew in Blackgate – we rarely even get orange swords) I would love to let ele’s know what to try after. ATM, I keep telling em to run away and go hide behind a wall with the earth shield since its all eles are good for.
Lava Font, Meteor Shower, Flame Burst, spam water fields, auto attack lightening while waiting for Static Field to come up again, Unsteady Ground (which got buffed heaps in the recent patch), eruption, switch back to fire, Lava Font, Meteor Shower etc.
Your eles must really suck
You know, Bloodlust buff was introduced for that reason. My server has around 35-40% of our points purely from spiking downed players and not from PPT.
I sincerely doubt this is why bloodlust was added. And it still does not address the sad state of upgrading and defending. This is part of why people mindlessly karma train or focus on GvG or just roam and ignore calls for help(unless they want to farm some bags). WvWvW needs major changes.
T1 servers defend anything worth defending. Even if it’s a camp. Karma trains don’t exist in higher tier servers unless there’s a pre-arranged agreement on the last day before reset or something like that
Take the hour it takes to do the jump puzzles. Call it a guild event. Try something new.
Or have an Eternal Battleground night. We try to do that at least once a week just to shake things up (I’m not much on Eternal Battleground myself, only have 4 Stonemist caps since launch).
I can’t believe that for 49 days straight you guys refuse to deviate from your daily routine.
It’s not that we refuse to deviate, it’s that sometimes we can’t afford too. Right now, the competition on our match-up is so intense that even a small group shirking their duties for the night has a substantive negative impact. Last week we had it easier, and could afford to take some time off. But right now, at the start of this league, almost every second counts. It’s crazy, but we love it.
We love it too. Small groups are viable, but only if they’re doing something useful i.e. capping bloodlust (if it doesn’t already belong to you on that map), flipping camps, taking paper towers etc. If a small group is off doing JPs, may as well say goodbye to all your keeps. That very nearly happened twice in BGBL.
You know, Bloodlust buff was introduced for that reason. My server has around 35-40% of our points purely from spiking downed players and not from PPT.
Like when BG/JQ doubleteamed SoR BL on Sunday night?
Don’t act like BG doesn’t double team. Everyone does.
Twice in a day doesn’t happen too often. I’m surprised our garrison still belongs to us.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining about it at all. The skill lag auto attack spam was utterly hilarious.
The most liberating experience for a WvW player is when that lightbulb finally clicks on and you realize that dying in WvW isn’t that big a deal — and often will make you more fearless as you pile drive into a massive blob to break it up. It’s fun, try it! Nothing more gratifying than watching a massive blob scatter just by you alone as they are trying to stack might/regen/swiftness and you foil that process by breaking them up.
Worst case? You have to rez and run back and pay 2 silver for repairs. Best case? You’ve just eliminated their combos and your teammates can now dive in and wipe them without the benefit of boons.
Agreed. I often lead a small 5 man havoc group when I play WvW. It’s so satisfying to see a zerg of 20-30 stop on their way to garrison to focus on you, buying time for your main zerg to get into position to defend. Rejoining soon after to collect loot bags.
Skill lag on the most recent BGBL garrison fight involving all 3 servers let me run through around 30 SoR players and around 40 JQ players without even getting hit.
All 3 servers are definitely getting lag. As soon as one moved off and the skill lag went away though, we stomped the other
the same servers that are crying about queues STILL have recruitment threads going so I really don’t get it.
The recruitment threads are for WvWers, not PvE achievement hunters who don’t help out their server, take up spots in the borderlands and won’t stick around after they get their achievements.
Also, based on numbers tonight, none of the T1 servers had queues across all 4 WvW maps. Think about that.
T1 NA server. 5 minute queue into home borderlands (not bothered trying for EBG). Where’s the queues?
If you’re talking about the time when you’re posting, which is 1:51 am pacific time, then that actually shows how bad it is in T1 NA. 5 minute queues at 1:51 am pacific time probably means HORRIFIC queues during primetime.
Which is OCE prime. BG arguably has the strongest OCE coverage of the 3 servers (or JQ, really hard to say). We used to have occasional 5 minute queues a few weeks before leagues started at this time. Nothing much has changed tbh
Lag was ridiculous in that BGBL garri fight, got so bad i just buggered off and finished my ruins capping achievement for the seasons, and I was still catching the lag running around the ruins.
Can’t say it wasn’t fun though right? I must’ve died like 10 times trying to troll the circle while our guys were trying to banner up the claimer.
T1 NA server. 5 minute queue into home borderlands (not bothered trying for EBG). Where’s the queues?
My way of adapting is to ask – as politely as I can – for achievement hunters to either leave WvW or move to another map when a 2v1 on us begins. Either move out or help out.
I’m pleasantly surprised that many decide to help out though. Running supply to close gates, recapping bloodlust, helping out in fights etc.
The OP was probably frustrated at JQ camping our outter garri for the longest time.
Was a fun fight though guys. We nearly took your Bay after all of that. So close!
epic 2v1 in BGBL garrison today. The pressure kept up by JQ denying entry into our garrison and both SoR and JQ camping our claimer was insane. Eventually though, lag won.
And the PVDoors after that were freaking hilarious
Take a step back and think of the first time you ventured into something as big as this and remember how it felt. Maybe it wasn’t GW2, but there was a time that was your first. Was it overwhelming? Was there things you needed to learn? Did someone help you? Did they show you how to do things to help? I’m pretty certain you didn’t pop out knowing exactly how to do all this, and giving a little consideration and guidance goes a lot farther than vile, venom, and vinegar.
Yes. Yes. No. No.
When I first ventured into WvW, I didn’t mindlessly run around giving enemy servers loot bags. I saw a call to enter teamspeak and joined right away. I then saw a WvW guild recruiting and joined them too. It took maybe 2 days to learn the basics of WvW. It didn’t take guidance. I wasn’t given consideration. I went out of my way to learn before I started taking some action on my own. This is a vastly different experience to PvErs heading to WvW now. They’re (for most part, since they’re there just for achievements) not willing to participate or learn. This ruins the WvW experience for those who are there to WvW or those who are there to try it out and learn.
It is what it is. Some servers in t1 didn’t just have guilds move to them by chance, but they actively recruited them. This has lead to the problems that you are complaining about, not anything Anet did.
Most of the servers are actually enjoying having the new blood, and maybe some old blood who has returned. T1, you are in the minority.
I really need to address this point. Those guilds moved servers weeks before leagues started. All 3 T1 servers had a feel for each other’s numbers and all were fairly even with JQ having stacked the most and BG the least. Queues the week before leagues didn’t exist outside of NA prime. Guilds moving servers didn’t cause the problems. The PvE player influx did.
Of course, not saying that more players coming into WvW is a bad thing, but the timing of it all was just terrible. Achievements are nice and all, but some of them are just ridiculous. Jumping Puzzles? Really?
Oceanic/SEA/early EU time zone player from Blackgate here. Having an influx of players during that time is kitten great. Even so, we still have 1 or 2 unqueued maps during those times. It’s been pretty fun showing PvE players how to WvW – what gear to build, which skills to use when, what siege is for, what scouting is, introducing them to the teamspeak server etc.
Also when commanding never shout and be aggressive with your followers, be firm in your commands but respecting, pugs hate when commanders are shouting and balling their head off etc.
Man, you have not seen some guilds (one in particular) in BG. Their commanders shout and scream and make the entire TS channel laugh as we wipe enemy zergs.
I’ve run with a mix of good and horrible Commanders. Some people have more money than sense. What I would really like to see introduced into the game (this has been said many times before) is the introduction of two different types of Commander pins; PvE and WvW so we can distinguish the two.
Also, make the WvW pin ascertainable only via a ranking achievement and by completing certain perquisites. I.e. Rank 100+, 5k badges of honour, maxing 3-5 WvW achievements (tiered), and 100g. This will ensure that people who really want to command will have, at the very least, intermediate knowledge of the workings of WvW. I’m tired of running around with a PvE Queen that lacks tact and is only there for the Karma.
Make sure you’re in your community teamspeak channel then. You’ll know which commanders to follow and which not to follow. PvE heroes generally won’t use teamspeak and have a commander tag up cause it looks nice… or something.
Also, because there are so many PvE heroes this week, many guilds are running tagless.
You guys are complaining about hard/fair matches when Mag just pulled all-nighters so that we could have consistently outnumbered fights and avoid seal-clubbing in Silver league?
Man T1 really is full-to-the-brim with bandwagoning scrubs.
This really can’t be repeated enough.
T1 is extremely competitive and there’s not much separating the 3 servers except in timezone coverage with each arguably having different strong timezones. If we are to see who’s really better (I mean, that’s what the leagues are for right?) then we would at least need to have fairly similar schedules – something we don’t have right now.
JQ is currently guaranteed – at the very minimum – a second place finish. SoR, BG and TC are fighting for the other spots and SoS and Mag are battling for last and second last spot in the league. That’s not an ideal situation in a competition.
For me personally, it’s about who really dominates WvW moreso than anything else. Something we won’t see from Season 1.
LOL those double team fights over bay on SORBL tonight were epic. Keep bringing it guys Im pulling an all nighter, this is just too good!
I must’ve gotten over 100 loot bags in those fights. Was great fun!
Agreed. We had around 10~ PvE achievement hunters in our garrison this evening, our commander assumed at least one of them would raise the alarm if garrison was attacked. Inner gate was down before we could even respond because those 10~ people didn’t say anything
Well, you know what they say about assumption.
Yep, makes an kitten of you and me. We didn’t make the same mistake twice.
Agreed. We had around 10~ PvE achievement hunters in our garrison this evening, our commander assumed at least one of them would raise the alarm if garrison was attacked. Inner gate was down before we could even respond because those 10~ people didn’t say anything. This basically ruined hours of work people put into building siege and trying to upgrade the garrison.
If you’re an achievement hunter going into WvW, at least be cooperative in map chat.
We’re lucky in BG that we could get most of them off the map to get some WvWers back onto the map to retake stuff, but I imagine in other servers that it would be a nightmare
(edited by Reverence.6915)
May as well be the Staff Guardian who feels useless in the zerg and not too useful against towers and keeps unless I’m on a ram or a cata.
Now stop taking the camp’s supply when it’s at 99/100. We need to improve the supply deliveries.
Just saw this and felt the need to respond to it.
Staff guardians are probably on par with or better than elementalists on water attunement when it comes to support. If you run GS as your second weapon, you also have incredible DPS. Guardians are one of the core zerg classes in WvW due to your buffs and tankiness.
Also, camp supply is there to be taken. Rarely do I see camps with more than 60 supply, unless my server is absolutely owning the map and the camps have just sat there untouched by the other servers.
(edited by Reverence.6915)
I haven’t been on any other server other than Blackgate, but we actively defend our keeps and towers. The PPT from them is the incentive to defend them. Perhaps the problem lies in the fact that WvW in lower tier servers lack the competition that makes towers that much more important?
Try playing in a T1 server with a PPT guild. You’ll be defending your keeps and towers to your heart’s content.
