ANet should keep changing the PPT rules until Maguuma can get a win! It’s only fair Magswag gets the best KDR NA, best PPT NA, best ktrains NA.
P P T S T R E S S
Most maguumans just want to fight enemy players, but the new system doesn’t give an incentive to fight so T1 NA is becoming less and less about fighting enemy players and more about backcapping 24/7, thats where the frustration is coming from.
Then don’t start running as soon as a fight turns sour? Fighting Mag is annoying as heck, since as soon as a fight turns against you, you guys start running for the hills. After it happens a couple of times, you guys just stand behind your walls until everyone gets bored and walks off. Either that, or you guys bring map queues against 20-30 man groups. So much fun, right?
There’s also no way anyone can get 10-20 man fights from mag, since that’s your “roaming squad” size, since all you guys do is stay on EBG with a map queue 24/7
You don’t need a squad to roam buddy. That’s called zerging
Just Maguuma things
Hardest part… trying to get puglings to learn how to zerg fight and not have them sit on a ranger 2000 range behind the melee train getting killed by a couple of thieves
Eh, I have almost 500 laurels. You stop spending laurels on stuff after a while. Good luck
The time it takes to deal 10-20k in condi damage is around 1-2 seconds with epidemic. Just sayin’
Or you know, don’t play a ranger in WvW
:)
By this stage of the game’s life haven’t we learned not to call for nerfs? Seriously, why call for a nerf of something that actually has the chance to shorten some of these horribly long sustain fights? Fights nowadays remind me of the old guard/guard duels pre-HoT.
A. Can you use the same tactics?
B. Can you use epidemic without some very exotic/unique comp being REQUIRED?
C. Has the skill been in the game since launch, but is all of a sudden being called OP?If the answer to any of these is yes then there should be no complaint.
Grab a few more revs and run some extra cleanses and you’ll be fine.
The reason why it’s OP now is because boonshare resistance got nerfed. It was already being used when HoT was released, but due to the high amounts of resistance, was pretty useless except against pugs. In fact, if boonshare wasn’t around with HoT (and associated massive condi buff), you would’ve seen complaints against epi then too.
And finally you can’t nerf epidemic without making necro another class not viable in wvw.
Say what?
Necros have been in the meta forever not because of Epidemic, but because of really strong utility and direct damage. Even if Epidemic got completely removed, Necro/Reapers will still be one of the most sort after classes for WvW groups
My guild doesn’t use condi necros because power necros are still viable and still fun to play. Producing downs on every single well bomb is still satisfying. Nerfing Epidemic won’t do a thing to necro.
Nah, the damage on epi is fine, my group can sustain through several epi bombs in a row no problem if we coordinate our cleanses well enough, but the problem I find is that it has no counterplay. It’s unblockable. You don’t even need a brain to press the epidemic button. Make it blockable and increase the cast time by like 0.25 seconds, it will balance itself out.
There’s no real hard strategy behind WvW unfortunately. Besides hitting or defending the right objectives at the right time, the rest of it is more about the PvP aspect of things.
Being individually bad at PvP is not an issue in WvW, as it is very much a team game. Join a WvW guild and learn how to play a particular role in their composition, whether it be frontline, backline or skirmisher
things and stuff and we’re still alive
I agree it’s too strong right now, but honestly, it just needs 1 change
Make it blockable
A 20 second cooldown unblockable skill like epidemic is stupid
The day ANet puts any attention into WvW… That’ll be the day
It’s great that we’re allowed to turn it off, cause it just causes lag and makes it harder to call targets in comms when you have multiple parties (e.g. focus the Silver Veteren ranger!)
Please keep it closed, ty…
Ancient bump
Still raiding and stuff
The current bandwagon movement onto BG, I think, is caused by our incredible period of time being closed. When BG was open in the past for longer periods of time, there would never be this kind of massive movement of people onto the server.
Honestly, I think there’d be more movement of guilds more often if all servers had affordable transfer prices. There’d be less hesitation to move, for example, off BG to look for fights, because you could always transfer back after you’ve done your tour.
Granted, bandwagoners will still bandwagon, but that’s been an issue all servers have had to deal with since launch anyway, and bandwagoners have never had a positive long term effect on a server – they usually cause a server to crash and burn after they move to the next bandwagon destination. I don’t think individual bandwagoners should be taken account in this circumstance.
Just my 2 coppers
You tell ’em Chaba!
Activity charts (kills/deaths/caps) suggest T3 and T4 are more active than T1 and T2. Just saying
Main: Blackgate > Blackgate > Blackgate and… Blackgate
Alt1: SoR → ET → DH → CD → SFR → FSP → ET (Used it for scouting potential servers to transfer to if snit ever hit the fan, currently shelved, only transferred around by deleting characters)
Alt2: SoS
BG’s been locked for months though. We’re basically running on diehard defenders and the occasional fairweather pug
The only thing reducing score gaps between 1st and 3rd will do, is to give a false impression that the 3rd place server is stronger than it actually is. Unless it’s paired with the 1 up 1 down system, it should never be implemented.
Watching people argue for druid is cute. Keep it up, I need reading material for the bog
I got to see the cannons in action this morning. They were an excellent counter to a massive zerg. Usually when you are faced with an enemy that is like a huge red tide rushing in on your “smaller numbers” you could kiss anything you were holding goodbye.
Its a game changer. Will it be exploited in the near future? If it can be done you can take it to the bank that players will try lol.
I wanted to add that it didn’t help every time, but sometimes it could turn the tide. (bad pun intended :P)
That’s nice and all when you’re defending, but it just becomes stupidly obnoxious when a large zerg uses it against you while you’re the smaller force. It legit renders any kind of counterplay impossible due to the chill stacking. When you have 60-70 people camping 10+ cannons, there’s nothing you can do but give up the structure.
Whatever happened to using your brain when attacking?
Trebs have greater range, catapults can be placed to not get hit, split your forces so the enemy have to defend in multiple places (zergs aren’t good at splitting), ninja other places to destroy siege and be ready to die a few times against much greater numbers.
If 60-70 people are just in one structure then send a team off to cap something else whilst keeping their entire zerg busy.
You’re extremely naive to think giving up your EBG keep/Garrison would be a good idea to split off and cap other stuff. The whole point of setting up cannons outside with shield gens is to bait you into wiping on their siege if you push, or keep you bottled up inside. If you leave, they’ll flip it and potentially camp it. It’s either PPT or PPK. You’re also extremely naive to think there’s only 1 60-70 man group. In prime times, there should be at least 2 or 3 more groups on the borderlands (usually guild groups) fighting.
Maybe you should use your brain.

DH doesn’t have any true hard counter. Closest might be a Revenant. Daredevil can’t really handle the amount of PBAoE damage and sustain that comes out of a DH. You either fight to stalemate, or someone makes a mistake first.
Yeah, no. PvE in this game is flipping mind numbingly boring.
I hate to break it to you guys that are behind the meta, but condi boonshare already is the meta for open field. Just saying.
Without resistance, we’ll immediately go back to pirate shipping to try corrupt+epi someone before they do it to you.
My guild doesn’t run boonshare due to the fact that no one plays a mesmer (RL stole them away from us). We still run essentially the same comp but with small tweaks to make up for the loss in boons. Not much will change if Signet of Inspiration gets nerfed. All you’ll see is that the mesmer spot will get replaced by a frontline ele or reaper. The fact that resistance will get procced on frontline heavies from Durability runes as well as a short cooldown from Mallyx heralds means that you can still maintain 90%+ resistance uptime. That means that soft CC will still be useless and hard CC will still be a waste of time.
Honestly, resistance shouldn’t get nerfed. There’s way too much damage now to allow for a nerf to any defensive boon such as stability, protection, resistance and regeneration. All that would do is bring back pirate shipping.
There really is not much point of moving servers these days, since you just get moved around anyway due to server linking. All you need to do is to find a WvW guild to run with and stop being a pug, and you’ll have fun regardless of the outnumbered buff or not.
The delay was only implemented during seasonal play.
…And staff necro has worse damage than any ranger build. Almost all of the potential damage on staff necromancer comes from the AA chain, which is worse than ranger’s by miles and suffers from the targeting issue (although this can be negated on both classes via action camera). Everything about staff except skill 4 is pretty horrible in terms of dealing damage to enemies. Staff is useful in ZvZ only because of Soul Marks allowing for transfers and damage through blocks and giving the necro substantial lf gain from range/safety.
Wells and epidemic are what make necromancers useful in ZvZ. If we played in a game with no boons, they’d be below the thief and ranger for use in ZvZ.
If you’re using staff for damage as a necro, you are doing it so so wrong, though by all means continue.
Staff is there for 1. life force regeneration and 2. chill + fear marks. The main source of damage from a necro is on their wells and with their shroud mechanics for AoE and their axe for more targeted damage. A necro’s Axe 2 skill outdamages a ranger’s LB 2 skill by quite a lot in a zerg fight. Even in a 1v1 fight, I’d give it to the necro simply because a ranger/druid’s play style is so kitten binary and easy to read.
The bunker build does plenty of damage; capped 25 might literally gets it around 3/4 of where a full berserker build would be when not running so much boon sharing. It’s not uncommon to take an RF for 7-9k from the bunker build. That’s a ton of damage from something built almost entirely defensively.
DPS means nothing in WvW, and ranger’s DPS isn’t the lowest, either – it’s got quite the lead on mesmer IIRC. Any mesmer will tell you that. The ranger has fairly decent access to burst damage despite its low AA performance across its weapon, and the staff’s AA is nothing to sneeze at – each cycle does more damage than the longbow, albeit a slightly lower DPS (but again, it doesn’t matter in PvP environments).
Prot + well-scaling Regen +Bark Skin + Heals + Stealth + Mobility + range and then very solid damage coming from the HoT pets pretty much mixes into a combination which cannot be bursted, cannot be sustained against, cannot be kited or reset, and cannot go all-in on. The boons come too fast for most removal capabilities, particularly since in order to strip boons, it requires stripping both the pet and the druid itself; realistically, only well of corrupting might be able to get a few boons, and that’s still pretty shaky.
The problem with this as well is that it pretty much creates an environment where the ranger and druid are going to stay weak in order to keep this build in line. Boon access across all classes should be substantially dropped – it’s not a problem exclusively with the druid, either – but having boons account for holes in the profession creates less build diversity by creating false choices; 25 might is pretty much always going to be better than any other trait line when it comes to damage. If bundled with defensive capabilities, it ends up being a very obvious choice. The contemplation of making the sacrifice to damage or defense at the gain of the opposite should always be necessary on every profession.
No. Even before the boonshare meta and before the druid nerf, they were at best a niche class to use as a healer. Fact is, they don’t do much AoE damage and they don’t provide much in the way of party support that can outclass what other classes already bring (while at the same time those other classes bringing more AoE damage). Use your druid for small scale roaming where it dominates. Don’t bring it into the zerg where it’s useless.
Primarily Guardians and Tempests. They pump out a lot of healing with a lot of PBAoE damage, making it ideal for zerging
I am a WvW noob but I have played my druid on my server and not heard a single complaint. My server is curb stomping the other two at the moment (Yak’s Bend). From what I see the domination has a lot less to do with what classes are being played and more to do with the leadership knowing how to win. These guys are kitten good and seem able to work with any group.
Although I’m sure they are happier to see some more zerg friendly classes I’ve yet to hear a single complaint on class choices in map chat or ts.
Trust me, you’ll start to hear it the minute your server starts losing.
If you were going to berate everyone as “doing it wrong” but then not share “the secret correct way” of doing it, you wasted you time writing that wall of text.
Hint: It doesn’t involve longbow.
Druids are an outright liability in this current meta. Just saying
I don’t usually kick rangers and druids from squad unless we’re running big numbers (at which point I can afford to), but I still try urge people to switch classes to a meta GREN class.

If you get upset at people using swear words, you need to grow a set and get a grip on reality (though I understand if people are dropping the F bomb every second word, that gets tedious).
My 2 cents. I have a 3 year old who sleeps in the room next to the computer room. I usually play when he’s sleeping or almost asleep and it’s mom’s night for the bedtime stories. However, I like to be able to hear when kiddo cries, gets up and starts walking the hallway, etc. so the headphones are not an option. And I’m not about to play most TS chats on my speakers due to the language if wife or kiddo can hear. I got balls – I got ‘em and I’ve put them to good use already so that’s not the answer.
So yeah, different people have different situations. If you’re running a zerg and have a few people not in TS it’s not going to ruin effectiveness under a good comm who pays attention to the map.
p.s. case in point, kiddo just woke up as I typed this. he went back to sleep soon after but yeah, the parents get it
I get that, and I sympathise, I really do, but in my guild, I have members who have newborns and toddlers as well. They usually wait until they’re asleep before playing, as well as working with their partners to look after their kids.
Granted, you probably have a completely different situation, and I completely understand RL issues stopping someone from using TS3. My comment is generally directed at people who can, but choose not to, when they have no barrier of entry.
This scoring change has literally changed nothing. I’d much have rather had the QoL by now.
Scoring isn’t the core issue with WvW anyway.
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t use voice comms unless you’re hearing impaired. You literally just need to tune everything out except for commander calls for pushes and other people’s call outs for sustain and cc in order to follow up with your damage.
If you get upset at people using swear words, you need to grow a set and get a grip on reality (though I understand if people are dropping the F bomb every second word, that gets tedious).
All too often, I would call for push and I would see only the people in teamspeak pushing in, with all the 20-30 pugs not in teamspeak just waiting behind looking at us like a bunch of monkeys. When the calls have an effective timer on it of less than 2 seconds (as in, if the movements are made 2 seconds later than the call out, it becomes ineffective at best or will cause a wipe at worst), then it becomes necessary to kick all people not on teamspeak from the squad to ensure you have an accurate number of effective fighters.
As an example, a couple weeks ago, I tagged up on a map with a queue, with around 30 people in teamspeak. The fights were going horribly against guilds I know we could beat. Unfortunately, due to the huge number of people not in teamspeak, it was causing us to lose too many numbers every push due rallybotting and slow repositioning from people not in teamspeak. Eventually, I just called out in Teamspeak to change map so we could get away from those pugs, pulled the particular group we were fighting on EBG onto the borderlands by hitting an objective, and fought them while outnumbered (we dropped to around 20 people after we moved maps) to a standstill with extremely impressive sustain and kiting from a pug group. The difference is massive.
Not everyone cares about competitive matches. Even fewer people actually care about PPT at this point. I don’t get what you’re trying to say. Scoring won’t affect people’s decisions to move servers. It’s usually either moving to fight particular guilds, or moving to join a particular community. It’s very rare that a guild will move to prop up a server or to push a server up a tier.
I think you underestimate the staying effect on a guild that a server community has in a particular time zone. Although JQ might have very little NA, their SEA community has been there since the start and won’t be moving off regardless of what’s happening. Same with DB’s SEA and SoS’s OCX. It makes very little difference to them, because they’re not there primarily for WvW, they’re there primarily for the community they have.
How about a change to the scoring system that doesn’t let the first place server run away with the score while also not letting the third place server fall so far behind?
That won’t change anything. That will simply make it harder for servers to move from tiers they don’t belong in. It isn’t scoring that needed to be changed. It is population and skill balancing, as well as reduction in skill lag. If the game is fun, people will come out and play it. People won’t have fun if there’s population and skill imbalance, no matter how close the scores are. All you’ll have are empty maps.
I didn’t vote for scoring changes myself, but many people did. This is the consequence. People in this game are far too short sighted.
It’s been like this for us as well, for a long time. I’ve known this issue for years and honestly, I think it’s intentional in some way. I’ve tagged up quite a few nights in the past month, getting about 30 people on tag, and having to face 2 groups of 20+, while our map is queued.
I think it’s some form of dynamic population control on the map that doesn’t take into account which server you’re from, so like, the whole EBG map might have a cap of 240 (80 on each side if ideal circumstances are met), but on some days, servers stuff up with the queue timers, resulting in one side getting 100, one side getting 90, and one side getting 50, and because the queues, the side with 50 can’t get any more people in until the other sides lose people.
I’m sure you’ve all noticed having to wait at position 1 in queue for ages sometimes, while other times, you could be at position 5, then all of a sudden queue in.
Most of WvW is balanced around 5-10 players actually. All keeps can be taken by 5, with the scaling making it really difficult past 10. SMC can be duo’d (did it once with mesmer + thief hiding inside waiting for RI to end). The fact that people group up to fight other large groups is only a side effect of what WvW brings. It’s definitely not balanced around zergs.
Trust me, every server except Blackgate can use a link.
Only problem is, when the fairweather population of a server comes out, it drastically impacts population balance.
It’s good at PPK is mattering more tbh. PPT is a good measure of relative activity and population within a tier, but not very useful for determining where a server should be placed in relation to glicko.
DB ded server RIP in pieces
Probably. Any non-boonshare or zerg build mesmer not building full glass is definitely troll.
Go full zerk + pack runes for power shatter or mix rabid + trailblazer with perplexity runes for condi. There’s no need to build much tanky stats for small scale skirmishes. The idea is to kill them before they kill you. Chrono have a lot of innate survival built in (sword/shield aegis and evade, F4 shatter, stealths like decoy etc.) so you don’t actually need to build it into your armor.
