There goes my guild’s entire weekend.

Being an OCX and SEA based WvW guild, we have scheduled our raid nights for when we have the most participation – weekends (we’re an adult guild, we can’t raid nearly as much on the weekdays because work). Since you guys don’t give us our own regional servers (along with 0 marketing here whatsoever – I haven’t seen a single HoT poster in any games/electronic retailer here), we’re stuck playing on your NA servers, living with ridiculously high latency and having to deal with the skill lag that comes with it.

If you want us to bugger off, then make it clearer why don’t you? My guild has already made plans to move off if HoT didn’t turn out to be what we expected. This is only accelerating that move.

Honestly, rams aren’t an issue with AC line of fire. Just have a few ACs and a cata or treb pointing at the gate and you’ll clear the rams eventually. It’s catas up against a wall that’s super hard to clear if you’re undermanned.

It is an issue that needs to be addressed though, since for us Aussies, we get shafted by having so few people to fight, even in T1. It’s really unfortunate that to get good fights, I have to log in during NA prime, which is usually when I’m at class.

Which elite specc do you think works in WvW?

In terms of elite spec, druid will start to replace ele as the healer/support player while ele can start becoming the main CC bot rather than needing to provide water fields. Currently you need to time ele cooldowns between pushing with the ele cc or pulling back with the ele waterfield. It’ll become easier on the eles to just provide CC and damage rather than having to provide CC, damage AND healing.

Tempest will not see any play. It’s useless.

Chronomancer will be used mainly in small ops of groups sized 5-10. Any larger and regular mesmer specs will start to outshine chronomancer.

Dragonhunter will be useless in zergs but will be pretty strong as a burn guardian roamer spec.

Thieves will be thieves and Daredevil will still be a roamer spec.

Reaper might see some use from pugs wanting to play a tanky frontline necro, but won’t see much use from organised guilds. Traditional necros are too strong to swap out.

Berserker will only be used for roaming. Warhorn on warrior is too useful for the condi clear and blast finisher.

Scrapper might see some play to counter veils. I don’t see it as super useful, but it will definitely have a niche.

Siege damage balancing

Siege damage to players needs to be nerfed. It’s simply not fun fighting against siege. WvW should not be taken into the direction of siege wars. That’s not what makes WvW fun.

Instead, siege damage to other siege should be buffed big time to allow for easier defense of structures.

If siege damage to players were to be nerfed the damage (by up to 80% of current damage depending on siege) to other siege were to be buffed (by up to 300% of current damage depending on siege), I think it would create more situations whereby fighting for structures would become more meaningful.

It sucks balls for the losing server in a matchup, but honestly, one of the things ANet can do is to increase the frequency of Siegerazer events as well as increase the power of friendly NPCs on a map with the outmanned buff outside of prime time hours. That will help a lot.

The problem with nightcapping is the difference in points that it can make as well as making the outnumbered side rather demoralised due to not having mechanics to fight back with. The problem though, is when it’s not through outnumbering, but outfighting. If you make a comeback mechanic too strong, it might end up having the opposite effect whereby a strong guild might not want to log on because they don’t make an impact against a larger server that they kill with smaller numbers, due to a comeback mechanic.

Any anti-nightcapping mechanic needs to also take into account for natural glicko differences and still allow the stronger server to gain glicko to avoid staying in a lower tier.

It’s really not that simple.

This is a dead horse that people continue to beat. I don’t know why people still think condi is in any way balanced in a PvP game.

I find stealth durations being nerfed slightly (like, 1 or 2 seconds here and there) would help, but condi just needs a massive nuke to bring it into line. Especially torment, confusion and burning.

My skills have been feeling more responsive, but at the same time, I’m seeing a lot more rubberbanding from other people. I play from Sydney, Australia and usually play with 250-350 ping. It’s hard to know when to cast my skills in relation to other people when I’m seeing them warp everywhere

@OP: It’s balanced that way so that 1 server will not overwhelm another server through sheer numbers, but ANet didn’t give much incentive for attacking the strongest server. That being said though, YB’s commanders are dumb and keep bringing the 2v1 on themselves through stupid map play.

If a structure was defended, sieged up and upgraded by just a few people, any group smaller than 20 would find it more or less impossible to take. How is that a good thing?

I’m going to just LOL at this.. I’d say those less than 20 players only know how to ram gates, can’t double dodge ac fire if they got in and probably are lost without a commander tossing their siege.

Thanks for pointing out that higher tiers can’t take anything with less than 20 since its impossible with less.

I’m done for the night. I can’t wait another 9 billion seconds to post because I was a bad boy Only good thing is now I can toss my acs on players I kill since I really have no use for them.

I guess you have no idea how fricken easy it is to take out siege. A couple of staff eles can take out catapults and rams easily. Have another necro there for fear marks and wells and you won’t even be able to use your siege. Put siege at a distance, and they can be taken out by ballistas and counter trebs. Unless you invest in a golems, there’s no way a group of less than 20 will think of sieging a defended structure. Even then, Alpha golems face the same problem as rams, and omegas are vulnerable to feedback and wall of reflection.

Pre stability nerf, you’d run tanky necros since their sole purpose was corrupting stability with their well. Now, they run glassy as hell to do a bunch of damage since it’s not really necessary to target stability since it gets stripped by guardians and elementalists anyway. It’s resulted in a massive change of meta whereby it’s about kiting away from the enemy backline damage while having your own backline be in range to deal damage. The frontline is there to act as body blocker and not much else (the frontline DPS pales in comparison to the backline damage).

People with good arguments don’t have to put words in their opponents’ mouths.

Nobody has a good argument that is defending the change besides they want to take easier objectives and any sort of challenge slows down the k-train.

The way ACs worked encouraged massive blobs and omega golem rushes to take down structures or smaller groups sniping undefended structures. If a structure was defended, sieged up and upgraded by just a few people, any group smaller than 20 would find it more or less impossible to take. How is that a good thing? Small groups were more or less relegated to defense because they couldn’t take anything defended thanks to the old LoS on ACs. Encouraging smaller groups to get out there to siege structures is a good thing for better fights.

It might be a cool idea to give every lord a short period of RI (like, 15-30 seconds, if the lord/vet is alive) after a successful defend event. That being said, considering the ridiculous defensive nature of the desert borderlands, it would be a pretty bad idea for that map. For the current alpine map though… :P

It’s us AUS/NZ and Asian players that determine which tier a server is in.

It is no accident that the servers in this game with stacked OCX or SEA historically have a weak NA for the tier they are in. The NA on your servers end up having a difficult time competing against the NA on the opposing servers because they are too high up in rank for NA.

I’m not blaming OCX/SEA players for this. You guys are stuck without your own set of servers.

Yep. If we had a AU/NZ/SEA server, you’d start to see the coverage issues on NA slowly fix itself over the course of a few months as players migrate toward their own regional servers with lower ping. It’s not like we want to play on NA servers with the 200-300ms ping on a skill based game…

Tier 1 IS where the players who care most about WvW are going to be and there’s nothing wrong with other players who aren’t in Tier 1 wanting to be apart of that.

Do you really think that? The only place T1 is the place to be is zerg fights and bandwagoning.

In fact your comment is insulting to all those other non-gloryhunting dedicated WvW players!

If anyone in T1 cared about WvW they would transfer to lower servers to make matchup more random and fun. Instead they stay there fighting the same matchup 90% of the time.

Sorry to tell you this, but T1 is one of the more major problems with WvW. Too many bandwagoners and gloryhunters moved there and tipped the scales.

I still remember the farce a couple years ago where the #1 ranked server was still posting the forums claiming they need more players. They didnt, they wanted more nightcappers when they didnt need either.

NA T1 servers are literally the only place you can get decent round the clock action. There’s a few servers here and there that may field a zerg at OCX or SEA prime, but it’s only those T1 servers (only JQ and BG at this point) that can do it consistently. The problem with NA T1 isn’t the bandwagoning in itself (NA prime time fairweather bandwagon players are part of the problem for sure), but that we don’t have servers for our own region and thus have to resort to mainly using NA servers in order to get decent competition in our prime times. In order to maintain competition during these few hours, we have more or less all moved up into 1 tier, since there’s not enough of us to spread out and still maintain prime time style fights.

Those outside of NA T1 are more or less just karma training empty borderlands or fighting against skeleton crews, or otherwise having only smaller scale fights against few opponents with no opportunity to get larger scale fights in their prime time.

This is why NA cannot have the server rotation that EU enjoys. EU, for most part, don’t have 24/7 coverage from guilds that play from AUS/NZ and Asia (couple exceptions, but very few). They are mainly from EU and to a lesser extent, NA. The coverage wars aren’t nearly as strong as the NA servers, who try to constantly recruit OCX and SEA players, despite many servers being unable to support them anyway due to having either no competition in their time zone, or facing too many, which causes the recruits to become bored or demoralised and transfer off again anyway.

In terms of spreading out, NA has done that pretty well in terms of NA prime time players. There are good numbers out all the way down to T4-T5. T1 has been slowly shedding numbers for quite a while since they’ve been on full status for a long time, while T2 has recently shed guilds to T3, at the same time as T4 and T5 getting transfers too. Those players aren’t the ones that determine tier matchups though, since it’s relatively even down the tiers with only minor differences as you drop down each tier (except T2 right now as they’re rebuilding). It’s us AUS/NZ and Asian players that determine which tier a server is in.

I haven’t really mentioned EU players on NA servers though since there’s not very many EU here in the first place and they have their own set of servers to play on with good fights and decent server rotations.

Besides sharing venoms, thieves are hilariously bad at zerging.

Every class is viable in WvW, but have different roles. Thieves simply can’t zerg well. It’s not surprising if you were asked to change class if you’re playing in a zerg.

There was a balance in tier 2 (FA/SoS/YB) until a bunch of tier 1 guilds decided to transfer over in order to create a 4th tier 1 server. As a result, many fight guilds left these servers but YB wasn’t really affected due to their massive influx of players.

I’m on TC and there has been considerable discussion on our server forum discussing that one should not be a jerk to the other 2 servers but this is counterbalanced by the need for us to maintain our glicko rating so that we don’t remain here, since it is not much fun for us.

This imbalance was due to the NA player base congregating in the top 3 tier 1 servers which lead to stale matchups. (EU servers don’t seem to have the same problems as they are more spread out) Hence some players took it upon themselves to orchestrate this fiasco. As a result of this unprecedented player migration, Anet closed entry to the top 4 NA servers.

I blame the guilds that transferred over to YB and their megalomaniacal leaders who did not care about the affect on tier2. Anet also seems partly responsible, though I am not sure what they could have done to avoid this.

NA servers are home to players from across the world, whereas EU servers don’t nearly have as much of a problem. AU/NZ, South East Asian and East Asian players largely congregate on the higher tier NA servers for WvW to have more fights. This creates the imbalance. Not NA players (who have largely spread themselves out over 9 servers).

This could be avoided if ANet were to create servers based in Singapore or Australia and invest in advertising in our regions in order to populate a decent amount of servers, but alas, we’re stuck with what we have.

You have 5 guilds. How the heck would it split you into WvW?

Also, the vast majority of guilds in this game are casual PvE guilds. They’re not going to go into WvW in the first place. All this does is reduce participation in WvW. Not increase.
