There’s a huge cost establishing a “server farm” in another country, which is why ANet only contracts for two: one in Texas (for NA) and Germany (for EU). All accounts tied to NA servers use the one in Texas; those tied to EU servers use the German one.
It wouldn’t be cost effective to set up a single server for SEA. I suspect the minimum number to make it worthwhile is 12. Does anyone think the game has ever had an SEA pop big enough to support that many worlds at similar capacity to NA and EU?
In addition, there are at least two other complications:
- SEA would have to be a fourth region for the game, in addition to NA, EU, and CN. Although ANet has solved a lot of technical issues, they so far haven’t figured out how to allow NA players to join up with EUers or vice versa. I don’t see them spending energy to split the community up even more than it is now.
- What country would the servers be housed in? SEA is a huge region and for this game would include Japan, Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Aus:Tokyo is 7,800 km compared to Tokyo:Germany @9400 km or Sydney:Texas @13,800 km. Thus, the benefits would be small for some substantive portion of the SEA community.
Finally, distance alone isn’t a good predictor of latency. It’s a big factor, but it’s not the only one that influences whether the server is slow to react to things you do in the game.
tl;dr adding SEA servers would be a major undertaking and it’s not clear that would provide the benefit some are expecting.
There’s quite a few asian MMOs that have far bigger followings in SEA than in NA. Western MMOs rarely market successfully to these populations because they rarely understand the culture and what it takes to make advertising work in these regions. MMOs like Maplestory and Lineage are far more popular there than they are in either EU or NA.
It’s definitely viable to create servers for South East Asia. There’s already a HUGE Korean, Filipino and Australian following in the game. There’s a decent sized Thai and Singaporean following too. I also know many Indonesians that play, as well as a few Vietnamese. It’s viable. It just needs good marketing strategy and investment into creating the servers.

You can turn the camera with either mouse button. You’re not using your mouse correctly. Don’t use it like a controller.
I’d leave NA servers for SEA servers tbh. The population is there, ANet just needs to invest into marketing in the Asian region to actually sell the game there. Could probably adequately use up at least 9 servers based on other popular MMO titles

Isn’t the Reason for outnumbering obvious?
The match capacity is to high.
4 maps a 100 people a 24 hours a 7 days is 67200 play hours per team and match. No server is even close to use that, in mean the capacity is probably used to less than 10%.
You can only have balance at times where the capacity is used. And as it is never used you have never balance.
Which server? How many hours have you spent on each of the 24 servers in your region, that gives you the experience to make this claim?
With 20-50 player queues on four maps regularly on weekends on my server, I suspect your making uninformed and inexperienced assumption in my opinion, about other servers based on your experience on your servers. It is unfortunate that you would make suggestions that harm other servers, for the sole purpose of your personal gain on your server.
Keep in mind that your experience does not define that of others, so before you push for changes, it would be nice if you could look outside the context of your experiences first.
You also know that your server is the only server that produces those queues? Jade Quarry’s coverage so overwhelming right now that no one can even compare with those numbers. Your experience is not indicative of what’s going on in WvW. Neither is any server in T1. Perhaps get an alt down into T4 or T5 and see how the average WvW server plays without queues.
24/7 coverage doesn’t exist on any server so it stands to reason then, that map should become more dynamic based on population, perhaps with NPC events to try break down T3 towers and keeps. Siegeraiser simply isn’t sufficient enough.
Sea of Sorrows and Isle of Janthir were the two servers selected early on for Oceanic players. Isle of Janthir still has remnants of those players so I recommend them
. Gate of Madness was also considered, but I don’t think there’s many left there now 3 years on.
Other large Oceanic communities reside on the top 3 ranked servers for WvW, Tarnished Coast, Blackgate and Jade Quarry, though those servers are full.

We (my guild and I) play for large scale PvP, not facing off against siege monkeys. If you want to sit on siege, that’s your prerogative. We’re not going to give you the satisfaction of killing us with siege. We’ll simply walk away because it’s not fun for us.
Note that Tap Dat Mouse’s builds are all bad. I mean, all of them.
If you’re roaming in WvW, shout guardian is one of the worst ways to go about it. Instead, you should be using a meditation build which focuses on self sustain and high burst damage.
I went back and changed my build around based upon your guidance. Is this pretty much what you’re talking about: DPS Medi
I personally take Pure of Heart over Wraithful Spirit trait in Honor, but yeah that’s pretty spot on. You can also take Strength in Numbers rather than Focused Mind since you have a pretty good source of Fury already if you’re going to use Pack runes.

I personally run a 0/2/6/5/1 medi build in sPvP and WvW with full berserker gear and strength runes (can run PvE with this gear too, just replace sword with scepter). Greatsword and Sword/Focus. 0/6/6/1/1 also works well as a full burst type medi guard, but far riskier in a WvW setting.
edit: just looked more closely at your build. You’ll want to swap out sigil of mischief for hydromancy, battle or doom. Knight’s armor isn’t too bad, but swap out the runes if you’re going to roam/duel. Like I said earlier, shout guardian sucks pretty bad at the whole roaming thing. If you can’t afford Rune of Strength (they’re pretty pricey), rune of the ogre or rune of the pack work well too.
Don’t use the same build/gear between roaming and zerging in WvW. They are two completely different play styles and you need to respect that. If money is an issue, grind dungeons or PvP (whichever you prefer) for your exotic armor while you wait for your ascended trinkets with laurels

Hi Stephen. On Blackgate here. I experienced some truly horrible lag tonight around 6am PST when we were defending an attack on our Lowlands Keep on EBG. My ping jumped up to 4000. My lag involved watching everything about 30 seconds delayed rather than watching people run into walls. I’d try walk up to our keep from spawn, and the event notifications when you get into range of objectives in WvW wouldn’t show up until much later (nor did the buffs we had on our keep), even though I was smashing my face up against our portal trying to get past the gate, which was delayed as well. Similar thing happened when we launched an attack on JQBL’s Bay keep, though I spiked up to around 1000 ping, rather than 4000.
Now, I didn’t disconnect through any of these fights, I simply experienced a lot of lag. My teamspeak ping was around 350-400 during these fights and was working fine. It just seemed that there was a lot of packet loss between my ISP and ANet’s servers. Next time it happens, I’ll try running a ping plotter to see where the packet loss is, but thought I might as well add this point.
We don’t have raids during EU times I’m afraid. We are based in Australia and Singapore. We do have a couple of EU members though. A few more and we can do EU raids
Fighting outnumbered is what makes WvW fun in an organised group, though with limitations. It’s not exactly fun fighting 20+ people as a 5 man group consistently for hours on end, because there’s no chance of winning.
I disagree with the outnumbered buff giving stat buffs, but I think the siegeraiser mechanic should be reworked to give servers active NPC allies to work with when you have the outnumbered buff. You still won’t have a chance in hell of winning any kind of fight against equal or more skilled players if they have more numbers than you, but perhaps maintaining some PPT on that map will be easier.
targeted blinks like judge’s intervention can get up there too. Nifty to get those annoying casters down and into the meat grinder.

Yeah… Maybe a small percentage of people actually handling the money, but a MUCH larger population out there that will be affected.
I pin up most of the time I go to EotM. I do not really hear any complaints about organizing my side, or fighting the enemies, but what does any of that have to do with the topic discussion?
By the way, you forgot that information about PvE instance population cap.
100 people makes it a ‘soft cap’, meaning a new instance is created. 150 is hard cap, meaning no more people are able to get on a map. Silverwastes, Dry Top and Southsun might be different though. This was tested with Teq and 3H wurm

Hey there. I’m starting to learn how to command in WvW and I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on how to command zerg fights and what I need to be capping (is it really whatever I want to try and cap or is there a system?)
Also, what is a good party composition for when I make groups for WvW zergs?
Thanks for any pointers!
Just tag up and do it. Trial and error will eventually give you your best answer. Every good commander has a different style, so go out there and find your own. Start by doing the PPT stuff and then slowly move towards fighting in order to get a hang of positions and directions.
Not an issue. Really. It’s annoying but you can counter it by scouting
Having moved to Australia from EU where I used to live, I accept the fact that I will have fairly high pings. 3-400 being about standard, but I’ve spiked 6000ms with it hovering around 700ms on a nearly unpopulated Borderlands (Gandara) map. I’m not even going to touch EBG.
I go back to PVE and it hovers around 400ms pretty stably. Although I’ve never been a hardcore WVWer, I do like to go in and play every now and then but having that level of ping on a map with barely 50 ppl in it is pretty much unacceptable.
I’d recommend thinking about moving to a NA server to a better connection
My game’s been spiking hard from 250 ping to over 1100 ping in large zerg fights. Spikes up to 350-400 even with 10v10 fights. It’s pretty ridiculous right now

I can’t find anything in Anet’s guide about how to force GW2 to connect to a specific server.
That IP was for the purpose of pinging the servers since your original one was for EU.
You’re missing the point, the game is routing us through a French server even though we’re based in NA, giving us extreme lag.

Fix your cacking servers or get new ones ANet, pls. It’s unplayable in WvW right now
