I suspect that even if Anet quadrupled all the rewards in WvW, we still wouldn’t see any PvE players venturing in.

I think ANet has already quadrupled the rewards in WvW since release. Between rank up chests and increased loot drops from players, you can get a ton of money by playing WvW for PvP. At one point, I was making close to 20g a night just from selling heavy loot bags on the TP. Even if you’re on a low tier server, WvW champ bags are really easy to get if you have a small group running. I really don’t think it’s the rewards that are lacking.

Yo, people from every tier hate this change. T3 towers flipping before you can respond or waypoints disappearing without you even realising it is just stupid. Sure, you can adapt, but what’s the point? This is just (thankfully) a temporary thing anyway.

I was talking about roaming, not zerging :p

But yeah, I have noticed T2 runs glassier. Few T2 guilds that came to T1 got a hell of a shock I think when they got one-pushed when they missed their bombs. Tanky builds were slowly being phased out in T1 but PPK was introduced and… The blobs… My warrior still uses full zerk and my ele uses cele/zerk but still. Not too many willing to run that glassy.

Glad you enjoyed some of what T1 has to offer. There used to be more GvGs, but quite a few JQ fight guilds left and TC guilds leaving as well, leaving very few guilds left to GvG. The most GvG guilds left on T1 now are on BG (could use a NA guild or two to JQ to balance stuff out and for GvGs). I agree that solo roaming isn’t really a thing in T1, but that’s just how the tier is.

It’s a good change if you like karma training and avoiding fights. That’s all. Everyone should hate it, and rightfully so. It brings less fights, reduces map awareness, forces players into scouting (an awful boring role). And more or less casts a fog of war on the map. If ANet thinks that’s more fun, well, it’ll take some time to adjust. White swords have been so important for so long is pretty tough trying to defend without them

This is why WvW guilds only recruit inside WvW and advertise on forums looking only for players on that server. If WvW means a lot to you, join a WvW guild on your server. There’s 5 guild slots for your account. Make use of them.

NA prime has most activity in T2. T1 is mostly for everyone else. There’s a lot of room for NA prime players on T1 now. Especially for JQ.

It’s TC’s village idiot, so to speak.

I bought a second account to experience different tiers and the zerg and roaming fights between them. The large zerg battles are definitely better in T1. The roaming is… Dependant on what you want to get out of it. Duels rarely happen in T1 unless organised. Small scale stuff is(was… RIP white swords) more about distracting the enemy zergs than getting kills.

Where as in lower tiers, it was more of a fight between builds, classes and skill, in T1, the builds and classes matter less and skill matters more (e.g. Managing to keep a 20 man zerg occupied by 2-3 guys kind of skill, it’s harder than you think)

All in all, it’s really up to personal taste

Karma trainings is a lot easier now but that was the exact opposite of what we wanted. We wanted defending to become easier than attacking – siege disablers and their recent nerfs are 2 steps in the right direction, PPK is another 2 steps forward. The removal of white swords is like 5 steps back. 2 good changes with 1 mega bad change.

maybe the difference between NA and EU t1 and t2 i don’t know.

But there is very small difference between t1 and t2 EU just even because of the server rotation between matches, so T1 EU roaming is same as T2 EU roaming, and totally the same with blobbing, just some stronger server show up bigger numbers against weaker servers, but roamers definetly don’t hide when #1-3 server drops into MU vs 4-6 servers. I don’t understand though how OP can divivde kitten that hard, maybe they are not that lucky on MU mixes..meh..

NA T1 and T2 and T3 (except for 1 server) are locked so far apart in Glicko that we don’t get randomised matchups. There’s also MASSIVE coverage differences between kitten. It also appears that T3-T5 is way imbalanced at the moment too, though it wasn’t that way only 3 months ago.

Put it this way, Pitch 3 of the strongest EU servers against 3 of the strongest NA servers and the NA servers would PVD for 12-16 hours a day due to coverage while getting absolutely wrecked up to and during EU prime (we can maybe queue 1 map during EU prime if we’re lucky, usually empty maps all round except for each server fielding a float team). Now, pitch ranks 4-7 against each other, and the EU servers would massively out-coverage NA because except for NA prime, other times on T2 NA servers are much, much smaller teams fighting each other rather than the map blobs that T1 tends to field.

I roam a lot in T1. Just because roaming in T1 isn’t what roaming is in other tiers, doesn’t mean there aren’t fights to be had. Roamers in T1 are generally more objective focused, whether that’s cutting off respawns or hitting camps. Also, snowball effect of trying to combat blobs (1 side blobs up, another side tries to get similar numbers to combat, 3rd side has to do the same etc etc and it can’t be stopped or else you lose everything).

If what you want out of roaming is duels, contact people. Random duels don’t happen in T1 very often. It’s gank or be ganked.

Just like you people hate when we say T1 is only blob versus blob. We hate when you say the other tiers are only PvD.

We all know none of them is true, but we will continue to acuse each other of it…

We know NA isn’t PVD and there’s some fights, but logging on in a T5 server during OCX is painful. It’s painful in a T2 server let alone any server below that. There’s so few fights that most of the time you’re fighting that 1 person on an arrow cart trying to defend a tower and that’s it. Or maybe 10 people show up to karma train a map like KN does in T7-T8.

Let’s be real here, OCX populations in games have never been big due to low RL populations. In a game about coverage and populations, realistically speaking, we could maybe spread out in 3 tiers MAX. There’s tons more SEA players than OCX players, but again, not enough to spread out through all the tiers like NA players and could spread out over 5 tiers, but to the detriment of everyone due to low opposition and PVD in empty maps.

If it’s happening in T1 where a 10 man group could PVD down map during that time due to little opposition, how can lower tiers do any better?

I’m pretty sure there are more warriors than necros… The rest seen reasonable.

Since the adrenaline nerf on warriors and meteornado nerf on eles, there’s been less of both. Main backline DPS is now double well necro with ele providing more support than DPS, with guards providing more support in the frontline than warriors. The nerfs hit eles a lot harder than warriors though so you still get plenty of warriors but hardly any eles these days, though it depends on the night so I’m assuming near equal populations of both. Some days you call for water field and nothing. Some days you call for banner and nothing. Call for wells or stability though? Plenty of those

There is no way to back the value of bitcoins. Only a complete kitten would accept them for anything.

you could say the same thing about the dollar, or pretty much any other currency these days. the only things backing them are a few questionable promises, media coverage and public relations campaigns.

The value of currency is guaranteed by the Reserve Bank of your respective country. As long as that exists, with a government to support it, it will have stable value, regardless of inflation or deflation – it is legalised tender with the support of a nation state. Bitcoin doesn’t have that and is more reflective and affected by market confidence.

I think the biggest problem with other class being a cmdr beside warr and guards is access to stab. If your party can provide you stab all time, i guess d/d aura sharing build is the best

If you really insist not to use any of the heavy armor class, necro is also a good choice for cmdr role

Fusterclucking is how you know you’ve got a k-train group in an unexpected fight.

If you’re in bronze and can’t solo a camp, tower, and keep (although not necessarily especially quickly), you are probably in the wrong place.

I do that in T1 too. It’s not exactly what I would call fun.

Echoing what Bubbua is saying. T1 blob fights during that time is limited to 1-2 maps. There’s 4 maps to choose from. Even blob fights are slowly disappearing as guilds start running more independently. There’s no reason, if you’re a SEA player, to be below T2 if you’re serious about WvW.

The only challenge is keeping your players with you. There’s nothing challenging about bringing 20-30 down to T8 and PvD for 6 months until there’s fights. There’s no challenging zerg fights until you get to T4-ish. Not saying the players are bad, but a T1 or T2 commander has much more experience commanding a large group of people in a fight than those lower tiers who, from observation, are much more casual about that stuff and just rely on numbers rather than staying tight on tag and following commands.

And, based on the T1 commanders who have come down over the past year or so to “save us” and “show us how it’s done”, T1 commanders don’t have a clue how to react when opponents don’t behave like like they do in T1. Zerging rots your ability to think reactively apparently.

I admit, there’s a lot of ‘stack and push’ commanders in T1. Truth is though, they’re also the ones getting wiped in every engagement unless they outnumber their opponents by a large margin. Large group fighting that I’ve seen in lower tiers tends to devolve into a fustercluck with the bigger zerg winning a lot of the time. A lot of players playing the builds and classes they want to play without optimising builds or party synergy. The more casual nature of lower tiers(which is why I go down to T5-T8 with my alt btw, it’s fun now and then to get away from T1) lends itself to those kinds of fights. Not a bad thing, just very different.

But yeah, lots of poopy commanders in T1 for sure. I probably am part of that category :P

This is probably irrelevant for me to say right now , but it would be cool to see other Top Tire servers look at the bottom of the list and say ,hey we should help them out or …a very huge / popular WvW guild transfer to SoR or and T8 server just to see how many numbers it would bring and to see how fast which ever server they join can climb the ladder, its allot of hard work and to some might be pointless but to me its more about the challenge and to show other mid / top tire servers whats what . merging servers can be a good idea but i wish the community of higher servers were more tight and communicative with other low tire servers. just my 2 cents.

Nomads and dagger/focus. Maybe PVT weapons. Ele scales really well off healing power, and you need high toughness and vitality, so nomads work quite well.

There’s a good reason why most commanders opt for warrior or guardian. It’s not cause they’re naturally tanky, but that they have strong melee engagement skills. Without strong melee engagement skills, you will not be able to control your melee train as well, and backline suffers for it.

Ele has pretty decent melee engagement skills though, so it shouldn’t be too bad. I used to do it on d/d a long time ago with full PVT and Dolyak runes and survived quite long.

GS + S/F, traveler/pack runes, blinds, blocks, and invuln when combined and used appropriately provide amazing mobility and disengage.

That build does not provide adequate CC. You will not be able to lock someone down long enough to get your burst in. Only those who weren’t ready or aware of your build will die to it, or else it’s pretty easy to just sidestep that focus 5 burst or the spin to win from GS. I’ve been using GS/Hammer to lock people down long enough to actually damage them, and it’s been working a LOT better

Commander sniping

it’s really funny, too. If they don’t have anyone ready to tag up in place of their dead commander – chickens without heads, make soup and tacos and stuff.

It happens against Its Choo a lot when he commands, with that giant Charr of his and being a Platinum something. Very easy to spot, corrupt boon, pull, immob, then rapid fire him down. Even if he lives, half his zerg gets pulled out of position to save him and it’s an easy bomb and bag farm. If my computer was better I’d record it.

Pin sniping in T1 has been getting nastier and nastier. I’ve been Moa’d into Ice Bow 5, with the rest of the stuff dumped on me, or simply been perma immobilised by a few rifle engis, or chain pulled so hard my character flies into the air instead of being pulled forward. Needless to say, fights aren’t fun with such harsh pin sniping, but the tactic is here to stay

I roam on my guard quite often. Due to the nature of T1, full zerk isn’t really viable, so I go zerk/soldier with Hoelbrak runes, which still allows me to 2/3 hit glassy mesmers, rangers and thieves, if I get my hits in (due to latency, it’s a 50/50 chance that I actually hit them, yay Australian internet). It’s very much like Necromancer roaming. High damage, no escapes. You either win, or die. There’s no running away.

I think that if a commander is getting sniped it’s because he is out of position because the zerg isn’t following him closely. Really, I rarely die inside the zerg ball unless we’re wiping, and most times I’m the last man standing due the high sustain from my build.

Either your commander is running some glass or your zerg isn’t following him properly.

You’ve never been pin sniped.

Pin sniping is pretty tough on drivers but it can be countered. Proper stability rotations, good zerg movements, stronger range bombs, stealthing and good positioning. I get pin sniped almost every night when commanding so I’ve slowly developed ways of countering. A good corrupt boon→spectral grasp is still really nasty though

Well for one, while the weekly events and stuff bring people into WvW, they don’t make people stay in WvW. SoR has the biggest potential population in T8, but they only show up once or twice a week for an hour or 2 to karma train and that’s it. How can you change that? Well, for one, actually spam the TS details in WvW chat. You guys still fear DDoS in T8? I don’t think anyone cares! Also, encourage and support the people who tag up. Encourage zerging. Zerging is a dirty word but it works to make people stick around. Most of all, GSCH needs to step up its focus in WvW if SoR ever wants to recover.

What people don’t understand is that this game is balanced around PvP. It was a PvP focused game that turned PvE because of a lack of PvP/WvW development. Zerker is meta in pve, but rarely do you get zerker elsewhere except some certain builds in WvW (zerk necro/ele backline DPS and zerk warrior cause warrior) and some DPS point roamers in sPvP (celestial is becoming much more effective in sPvP due to the nature of the game mode, for quite a few classes).

You want diverse builds? Go WvW. I carry 2-3 sets of armor on me depending on the class I play so I can switch between general zerging, solo roaming, scouting and havocing, which all use different builds, traits and utilities.

Silver league and below servers don’t have real off hours non prime coverage.

Two days ago I took 3/4 of EB with seven people… All but the red keep and SM, which we couldn’t take because there were 2 dudes with siege disablers.

This was at 5 pm EST, which might even count as prime time.

While this was going on, nobody was in our borderlands, we had nothing in the green borderlands and nothing flipped. We also had 5 people in the red borderlands (3 in teamspeak!) who took all of the south towers and camps and hills. They were thwarted by a group of 4 with siege disablers.

In three hours of taking whatever we wanted, I got two kills.

Is this in T8? That kind of situation only snowballs until you get enough dedicated WvWers to counter the attrition caused by empty maps. Like it or not, people like having other people to play with, especially in a team oriented game mode such as WvW. Full maps are much more fun than empty maps and ANet needs to realise this and boost WvW population by either forcing (ahem encouraging) more WvW requirements for meta events, skins, rewards and such (there’s still enough PvE players on all servers to queue all maps), or by merging servers

Sounds like you just want people to play with. Zerg fight victories are a coin toss either way, as it depends on the core composition of the zerg (the classes that make up the zerg – having minimal engineers and rangers makes a difference) and a good commander leading. If a good commander is leading a zerg full of ranged classes with little to no melee, he will lose fights due to having less sustain/tank. If he has too many melee/tanks and not enough ranged glass cannons, he will lose due to not being able to kill the enemy. Both of these scenarios get thrown out the window if there’s a population difference of more than 1.5:1, assuming similar skill level. This will be true no matter which tier you go to.

Dominant servers come and go. The server that’s currently dominating might not be in 2-3 months. There’s no “Best server” as it’s not a static thing. If you want people to play with, pick a higher tier server and roll with it. Find a solid WvW guild and grow with them. Biggest does not mean best.
