Man, BG’s Oceanic… too OP. Dat 100-120 PPT
:(
JQ outnumbered in Aussie prime? Huh…
We can barely field a float team in that time zone at the moment. Far cry from leagues populations this week
If you’re coming to BG just to win though… May I suggest Sea of Sorrows instead? Large oceanic community and t2 server that is climbing up the ranks.
So… our night coverage equalled a T2 server’s coverage the past couple days… No queue on EBG (had outmanned buff between 5-7am PST on EBG…), 1 float team for 4 maps.
Dat PvE content is too OP. Really fun though.
Considering the time zone in which you play, to be honest, any T1 or T2 server would accommodate your needs.Once you hit T3, night coverage drops off pretty dramatically. Even in T1, during that time of day, you have no queues on any borderlands and a minimal, if any, queue in EBG.
If you truly want a decent number of people to play with in that time, try looking at EU servers.
There were winners and losers during, and leading upto the Season. BG, SoS, FA, Mag, SBI, YB, and AR were definitely winners. They got transfers from other servers and are on a upswing (don’t know for sure about AR, but they are out of the nosebleed seats).
SoR, DB, IoJ and Kain took a massive hit. Likewise TC is a shadow of it’s former self and is going on momentum and daytime coverage.
So I wouldn’t have called this a success. I would go as far as to say that it’s a mistake to see things as balanced outside of the T2,T3, and T4 zones.
Yes, but it’s a LOT more balanced than matchups determined in leagues.
That is a completely incorrect and nonsensical statement.
To the original post, no. League made things worse. Though leagues aside, things are always getting worse with server population. That’s the way the game pays.
Care to remind me of a week in the recent past where we had more than 4 tiers that were competitive? Or are you just choosing to ignore all of that and focus on your own matchup?
The balanced matchups have more to do with the RNG then anything else….During leagues with fixed matchs and no way to have matchups between the bottom of gold and the top of silver, you could never ever get the more balanced matchups say between like FA, TC and SoS or Mag, SBI and Yaks…..now you can. Leagues just lead to blowouts week after week because of this, with a rare occasional match. Now with the RNG back to the way it was, there will be some very balanced weeks and then some weeks where you get more blowout matches….I don’t think you can judge population based on how competitive the matchups are right now…
Ok then, so we’re in agreement?
FYI there was never any discussion about population. Just that this week has been very balanced.

Yes, but it’s a LOT more balanced than matchups determined in leagues. Hell, I’m having fun just staring at the changes in score hour by hour.
WvW is innately unbalanced. Trying to force it otherwise will just ruin a lot of communities. If us players could try to police it, it would be a better way.
I disagree with tiered rewards. It just encourages stacking the server that is most favourited to win.
Second point I do agree with though. I’m probably never going to touch my stack of 250 finishers because it’s limited. I look at it as my trophy for season 1
I just love how you can slap a “balanced” stamp on match ups where the winner has been decided after not even half the week.
Shows what a sad state WvW is actually in.
In 5 out of the 8 matches, the second place server can win with a big push through the week. In T1, JQ and BG has kept within 5k points of each other and both are pushing hard. In T2, TC has caught up to FA after a slow start. In T3, Mag is keeping up in PPT with SBI and could push to win as they are within points distance.
This is indeed the closest matchups we’ve had in a long time. The only blowout match is DB/NSP/IoJ
No, once the week starts T1 is unbalanced due to COVERAGE gaps. BG is guaranteed to win, JQ 2nd and SoR 3rd. Its just how it is right now. Before league we we all 3 super-balanced in T1 and the matchups were decided in the last minutes of friday. But BG decided to become a vacation resort for guilds during league breaking any balance the “big three” had
BG guaranteed to win? That’s certainly not how I feel. But then, you’re from SoR, so your defeatist attitude is a self fulfilling prophesy.
BG was behind JQ until around Monday. JQ made up the points again by Tuesday night. BG only pulled away last night~today.
BG only had 1 guild come over to us during leagues, so it’s certainly one hell of an attractive “vacation resort”.
But again, you’re in SoR, so you believe your own bullcrap spewed out on the forums.
Anyway, my point that this week of wvw matchups were very close. TC has overtaken FA and Mag is about to overtake SBI. Seems to be very exciting so far!
You should transfer up a few tiers rather than move to an EU server.
JQ, SoS, SoR, TC and BG all have sizable oceanic communities.
SoR, JQ and BG also has large EU communities.
Doubt the leagues did any good. Only thing it made me do is buy the evil SimCity game that I thought I would never get and have resisted for so long. WvW season shifted me towards the other side from casual to even more casual and into other games. The only WvW I’ve done lately is probably 5-15 minutes where I need to find 10 reds to kill so I can do my dailies. Yes, that’s all I log into GW2 to do now. Until I can see Anet doing something about zerg-blobs, I don’t think I’ll even care. I’ve probably spent more time on these message boards than in game. Guess we can all call this being burnt out?
Care to explain to me why “zerg-blobs” are bad? Honest question. I haven’t played in any other tier than tier 1, and here, it’s just a part of the game mode of wvw.
If you want small scale fights, there’s spvp…
If a guild is running untagged in a map and are getting adds, I usually tag up to draw pugs away from them. A guild group is far more effective running in their group of 20-30 than it is when pugs join them. The only time this isn’t true is when said pugs are experienced wvw players in teamspeak and has played with said guild group before.
I occasionally run with untagged groups because I know them and their play style and can contribute to the way they play. They also know me, so :p

Ressing downed players more often than not gets yourself killed. If you’re down, just port back. Waiting to get ressed generally indicates to me that you’re rally bait and not worth keeping around.
So which rivalry is the greatest?
The greatest rivalry would have to involve more than just forum squabbling. It would have an awesome origin story, highlights during the rivalry, and an epic conclusion (unless it’s ongoing).
Any rivalries like that?
FA/TC has one like that. Something to do with a Dolyak parade and an FA commander sabotaging it. You know how seriously TC take their Dollie parades
SoR/BG’s story is a bit more… lame…
I can only tell what others have told me since it was way before I stepped foot into WvW. A hacking mesmer got into Bay in a particular map. Words were exchanged on the forums, and what apparently used to be a fairly amiable relationship turned toxic. Wasn’t helped that we were paired together nearly every week for most of the year.
FA/TC rivalry is still ongoing
I’d like to think SoR/BG’s is still ongoing, though SoR is going through a low period at the moment. JQ/BG is less of a rivalry, more of a competition, so I can’t really call it a rivalry.
Get a tag if you’re prepared to have headaches.
For a havoc squad, you want a majority of burst damage/cc classes. Hammer warriors, thieves, mesmers, d/d aura share eles and engies should be your priority. Just don’t complain too hard when a zerg comes your way though lol.
Depends on your time zone. If you’re playing in EU prime in EU servers, you’ll probably have to go quite low for a “medium population” server. Likewise NA in NA servers.
If you live anywhere else in the world though, you may want to look at servers higher up the tiers if you want a decent amount of people to play with.
Maybe I’m just smarter than the average bear but I don’ think TS is needed to know that you’re supposed to follow the blue triangle around on the screen.
This and other people saying similar things…
There are commands the commander says in TS that you won’t get in mapchat. Stuff that will keep you alive and get you bags, or stuff that will help you win the fight, or stuff that will help the whole server in general.
As an example, in TS, a commander gets a call to push X server’s keep because they are pushing on another map. In this map, you’re outnumbered, but you know that if the other map is successful, your PPT will spike sharply. So you start pushing, fully expecting to lose engagements. As a commander though, you want to keep most of your people alive, so you will move around the engagement very quickly. If you’re not in TS, you’ll miss most of that and either 1. become rallybait or 2. fall behind the main force and miss out on your bags.
Basically, my view is that anyone not in TS is rallybait and not worth trying to keep alive. If they can’t make the effort to help the server, then I’m not going to make the effort to help them get wxp, bags, karma etc.
As for whining about being outnumbered, having too much random chatter etc., I just tell them to shut up and listen to commands. Usually works a treat.
I see a lot of necros, mesmers and thieves. Cheesy builds on all of them too. Bit tough to outplay, but a hell of a lot of fun.
For real though, bunker dual pistol thief with perplexity runes…
SoR and BG I think, would be the longest lasting rivalry
I dunno what you’re talking about I love you guys.
>.< Love to hate.. I mean I love to hate you guys.
Just kidding though. I really don’t give a kitten about other servers… you’re all red to me.
We love to hate you too <3. Please recover quicker!
SoR and BG I think, would be the longest lasting rivalry
Guys, I’d like some input from the T1 and T2 players. My question is, let’s say that during a certain time zone, your server normally has two maps queued, and an active presence on the other two maps. If the server starts playing against a higher rated server that has significantly higher coverage, does that make people stop playing? I’m 99% sure that the answer is yes, but who stops playing? I always thought that the people getting affected by low morale are the casuals who enjoy easy fights. If the WvW guilds on your server have scheduled weekly raids, surely they would keep the same raid schedule no matter who they fight, right?
I guess my question is, do casual players only get affected by low morale, or do organized guilds also get hurt by it?
T1 servers have a huge PUG/militia population to supplement the WvW guilds. From any given night in WvW, after most of the NA guildies have logged off, a guild could be running with around 10-15 people while commanding around 40. This is especially the case with home borderlands and EBG.
SoR has managed to keep at least one guild running around 30-40 strong around the clock floating around the maps, but JQ and BG tend to lose that once SEA/EU time zone rolls around and we get smaller groups running with a large number of pug players. Though JQ still has MERC, ATM and FoO that run tagged and in large-ish groups (20-30), BG has KnT (about 15-20 during oceanic) and ND (can field a full map zerg but usually runs around 30-40) running tagged those time zones, but that’s generally for 2 maps. Commanders on the other two maps are generally NA commanders staying up for a bit of training, or commanders from smaller guilds running tagged to try get a force with them to compete on the map.
Because we rely so heavily on pugs, when they stop showing up, T2 servers could probably match us in numbers should they have their pugs out. That’s probably the biggest difference between T1 and T2 servers that I’ve noticed, is that we have a far larger pug population in wvw.
When overall morale is low on the server, these pugs stop showing up first, followed by the casual wvwer (who’s likely in a wvw guild).
Not sure what adversity BuyingbreadGate had when they had ZDS to pvd every night… It could have been fun and close if they didn’t recruit that guild, heh.
Considering we lost a heck of a lot of coverage during that time zone with SUPR, MERC and TKG leaving, this accusation was never warranted.
More self-entitled people thinking only their timezone matters. People can play and get ppt whenever they darn well want to, thank you very much.
Point balancing is something that should be worked on, but outright blocking access to the game by timezone is rubbish.
Does. Not. Compute.
Where is there in the world that can’t play if the servers become locked to a 16 hour shift?
If NA servers are locked between say, 2am-8am server time, then a lot of Australian, New Zealander and South East Asians are locked out of WvW because that’s our prime time. We can’t play EU either because of latency issues. Deal with it.
Blackgate…please stop. The “We were the underdogs” story is getting old.
I feel sorry for you all…your server built (some would say bought) an awesome WvW army. But winning hands down and easy will wear thin week after week…soon you will see guilds moving to servers where they are challenged.
Blackgate was the perceived weakest T1 server before league starts and even after BG won the first week of league, I would glad to provide links to threads/posts claiming that from JQ and SoR if you are in doubt. The success we have in Season 1 does not change the fact that a lot of people were surprised and shocked by our performance initially.
Also I would advice you to not make predictions about what will happen to BG as you guys are really not good at making predictions giving how your pre-season predictions turned out…
First: Disclaimer: The predictions I make are mine. They are not necessarily endorsed by my server. If you have a beef about it take it out on me…not JQ as a whole.
Second: I noticed you even acknowledge that Blackgate was “perceived” to be the weakest. Thanks, that’s the first time I heard a BG person even come that close to admitting they weren’t underdogs.
Like I alluded in my post, there are a lot of BG people still claiming that Blackgate was the underdog and the ONLY reason you went undefeated was by the grit and talent of your players. I’m not saying you don’t have any talent, but please…be honest, your server won primarily by numbers.
And I stand by my personal prediction…what fun is not having any competition? The better guilds will move on to be challenged. The weakest will stay for the Karma Steamroll.
Most of BG players (at least the serious ones) are always saying we are the perceived underdog entering the season, of course we wouldn’t be able to win the season if we stay out-coveraged by JQ or SoR during the season.
As for how we win, all T1 servers have the population to offer good numbers in all time zones, JQ was said to have 24/7 queues until you fought BG in week 5. Winning WvW in T1 has always been about organizing/mobilizing the server population better and keeping the server’s morale high. During season our guilds stayed up longer, the server was able to get more Pvers to actually try and stay in WvW, and we got ZDs to help cover our weak time zone after we lost MERC/SUPR/TKG in that time zone. So it is how we turn a server that has the weakest coverage before the season to the one with a stronger coverage that allow us to win season 1. Grit and determination certainly plays an important part in it, our guilds and commanders were willing to stay up super late to cover our weak time zones/push enemy’s weak time zone while some other server simply give up when they find out they have a weakness. You won’t keep your server’s morale high if you give up easily.
There are more competition now than a lot of times in the past (e.g. JQ’s long-term dominance after the end of free transfer) and server strength always fluctuate especially now the season has ended. I know many guilds are enjoying the fights now and they don’t seem bored shrug
I wonder if the lost sleep was worth a non permanent finisher and a rng chest.
And bragging rights.
Top tiers – “We can’t get into WvW due to long queues!!!”
Low tiers – “Help we need more players!!!”
Not quite true. First couple of weeks of this inaugural season of leagues saw pretty bad queues, but in T1 NA servers, queues died down completely by week 4. By this week, I’m already seeing outmanned buff very often during my timezone (oceanic).
Lower tier servers attract certain kinds of players, especially those that like small scale fights. Higher tier servers attract those that like larger scale battles. Honestly, if you’re there for fights and not PPT, then WvW is fine as it is.
Personally though, I don’t think I’d enjoy WvW in a lower population server. Not having anyone to play with would make the game very boring indeed. Heard from a recent transfer from Anvil Rock that Oceanic/SEA might have 4 people going around capping the entire map. That’s just not fun…

We were the underdogs after the majority of our OCE/SEA coverage went over to JQ and SoR. We were left with equal NA coverage to SoR and JQ, equal OCE/SEA coverage to SoR while significantly weaker to JQ in that TZ, and slightly weaker EU than SoR and slightly stronger than JQ in that TZ.
Even now, JQ has the most stacked SEA timezone of any server. It just lacks leadership with Ralikh and Waha not active.
(edited by Reverence.6915)
It’s completely possible to make a comeback after the weekend. Hell, it’s possible to make up a 50k deficit from a Thursday to win the week. Been done and will been done again in the future.
I feel a week is the right length for a realm vs realm competition. Any shorter and it just feels too frantic.
Obviously, not being from FA or HoD, I can’t speak for them.
But. BG’s wins weren’t that easy. We were picked to come 3rd at the start of leagues, and were definitely seen as the underdog after losing much of our OCE/SEA coverage to JQ and SoR (though SUPR and RISE moved to greener pastures I heard?)
It’s pretty evident this week that all of BG’s commanders and regular WvWers are completely burnt out from putting their all into winning this season. Outmanned buff is appearing for me more and more often, and more often than not, it’s the particular timezone when SEA starts up that we start gaining a lot of our PPT (we haven’t really seen JQ’s SEA show up in big numbers besides TKG and MERC + militia, only seen FoO once, and SoR’s SEA is basically all militia and.. GC? or GE? I get those two mixed up).
We put all our effort into winning every week, except week 6. Sorry SoS and Mag, coverage/population differences and all…
No commander in EB, no queue, and everyone just talking on all chat. So it begins…
Season 1: The Hangover
I think the majority of BG is completely and utterly burnt out by now.
Another example is elementalists; sure they are amazing behind a giant zerg, but put a an ele in a setting with less than 5 people and you are giving the enemy a free bag.
Overall, nothing is all that bad, but if anything, my vote goes to playing staff ele in anything that isnt a zerg ball, you are just asking for a spanking.
A good d/d ele can embarrass most thieves, warriors, rangers and guardians. The d/d build also works fairly decent in zergs since you have decent defensive auras to keep you alive.
I’d say focus is the most useless off hand weapon. Never see it on a guard or ele, only see mesmers use it for the speed buff, rarely see necros use it.
The sword would probably be the least used main hand weapon. Greatsword is better than the sword in nearly all circumstances.
I haven’t played enough classes to really know their traits.
I’m sorry, BG did it first, with 57 golems
yet no one is clapping… why do you think that is?
And no one is clapping here – why is that, o’wise one?
our opposing server posted a thread just to give us props….. ???
we did it to a server that outnumbers us almost 24/7 and both sides had a ton of fun. when BG did it it would probably just salt in someone’s wounds and for the purpose of gluttony which is why nobody gives a kitten.
We did it to JQ, a server which matches us in population, and it was all in good fun. The golem rush failed, and both sides mentioned in our matchup thread what a blast it was. Try again.
If you watch the video, we took the golems from SW garri gate along the western wall, tearing down each one before even bothering with taking down an inner gate.
I’m sorry, BG did it first, with 57 golems
yet no one is clapping… why do you think that is?
That guy in the corner is clapping… YOU’RE WRONG!
I’m sorry, BG did it first, with 57 golems

grats to buygate!
I gotta ask, bro…
I love this winner wins mentality, no matter how you get there.
when you are there pull out the smugness.Go Murica! ^^
Or rather, troll post gets a troll reply. That zoombi guy has been in every BG thread crying about us “buying” guilds.
Instead of everyone expecting WvW to be made fair to accomodate -them-, maybe each server needs to take time to sit down with their server/guild leadership and ask… “What can we do better?”
Thank you, DivineBeing.2086 – TC has indeed been working hard to achieve what we have. We have -not- recruited new guilds, in fact we lost some. Yet for the grumbling, we dug deep, and decided to redouble our efforts to recruit new WvW players from within our server’s population, and train those that participate to help them be more effective.
I would say our efforts are paying off. I think the key is to do what you can with what you have, and set realistic, incremental goals.
Indeed, and for TC, this has paid off by coming third in Gold tier. Congrats
This is also what BG has done. Regardless of all those SoR trolls claiming we bought guilds (woo! 1 60 man guild that fields around 20-30 a night apparently crushed them so bad they lost 2 guilds), we also lost a huge chunk of our players just before seasons. We recruited people from Queensdale, FGS, Lion’s Arch etc. and trained them up in WvW, got them used to following commands in teamspeak, got them interested enough to be dedicated to the server. You can clearly see this during our off hours, with a huge chunk of players being militia rather than guild groups. Our success in rallying pugs to wvw is the secret to our overall performance in wvw.
Seems like the OP got stomped a few too many times during this season. I’d say join your server’s WvW community by joining their forums and teamspeak, and then actually participate rather than sit on the side lines not knowing what’s really going on.
Is it true Nexon bought a part of NCsoft? If this is true I can see why the community is complaining about this game becoming P2W. Well, I think I just lost motivation to continue playing. I will have nothing to do with Nexon.
It’s not P2W, it’s pay to look good. Looking good just happens to be the endgame.
Good thing you can buy gems with gold
Good thing you can’t casually make gold fast enough to keep up with gem inflation.
Good thing that’s not true. Doing FGS or QD champ train 30 mins-1hr a day will net you maybe 2-3 gold easily in mats and drops. On week later, you have enough to buy stuff in the gem store.
Zerging is absolutely not frowned upon. Every server zergs. This is a silly idea
I usually play with a front line heavy comp, about 5-10 warriors all running warbanner, 3-5 guards, 5 necros, 3-5 eles, 2-3 rangers, a thief or two, and an engi or two.
Thieves have an on demand ranged blast finisher as well as a poison field. Pretty strong for zerging if you ask me.
Necros are also really tanky and can dish out a lot of condition pressure to an entire zerg
If you think there’s hate on SBI… Take a look at all the troll posts against BG
. Just comes as baggage for being awesome? Haha
Way to SiegeWars 2 SoR. Nice to know that our 3 people (Me on a level 41 ele alt) ran off your 60 strong zerg from BlueLake (SoRBL) for hours, until you decided to resort to using not one, not two, not even three…. but Drumroll 4 Trebs@ Ruins to bypass our Heroic defense! Never saw such a weak display of force as I did tonight SoR.
There’s a reason we call them Sanctum of Arrow Carts :P
All servers have bought guilds.
All servers have had guilds move off the server.
All servers have coverage holes (BG included).Nobody has any grounds to stand on.
However, Buygate buys entire servers!
and countries!
and entire planets!
Blackgate’s latest purchases were the Vigil Megalaser from Sparkfly Fen, the planet Mars, and Lebron James. Undefeated streak continues.
BG has such a large war chests that it actually makes Dolly Parton look small
Oh please, we make Bill Gates look poor.
Grats to Blackgate.
Achievement “we are lame” completed
Lol. I think it’s the “Big Spender” achievement!
Spend 25 badges of honor?
I refer you to my previous post in which I say "I did not accuse anyone of “buying” guilds"
Also even with TKG and MERC on JQ, BG still out numbers us in OCX, so forgive me if I think that it is better for everyone if they are on JQ.
That comment wasn’t directed at you. It’s directed to the hoards of whiny PvFers claiming BG bought guilds, so much so that I think even servers we haven’t played against believe it. It’s upsetting and detracts away from the effort that BG’s core guilds have put in in order to win this league.
~snip~
Regular BGers understand that. However, BG also lost SUPR, TKG, a lot of MERC, RISE and a bunch of smaller guilds on the leadup to leagues. We gained Omen, and ZDs who’s only staying for the season. Omen paid for their own transfers as far as I know, and we donated some gold to ZDs to help alleviate the transfer costs – they would’ve transferred over regardless.
Now, when us BGers see the “Buygate!” claims we get upset. We then reply with “hey you guys bought guilds too”, you get upset. Perfectly understandable. Now stop claiming that we bought guilds because it never happened. Our donation to ZDs is certainly a lot less than the alleged 20k~ gold JQ gave out to help guilds transfer to them.
Just a reminder that we only had 1 guild transfer to us during seasons, lost a whole bunch just prior to seasons. Call us overstacked, we call ourselves overdedicated. We are proud of what our servermates and guildmates have achieved.
What you see of our coverage isn’t from buying guilds, it’s from converting people from other game modes and getting them into wvw. This is especially the case for the oceanic population here.

Trolls will be trolls. It’s how you work around the problem that shows the integrity of your core WvW players.
Awesome fights in SoRBL today. Wiping and getting wiped. Taking and losing towers. 2v1s back and forth. Was a blast. When SoR first started pushing our Bay with 12? golems? We got the outmanned buff for a few seconds. I was so shocked I didn’t even take a screenshot
(edited by Reverence.6915)
I was confused when I got in that I only ever saw 1 commander in each BL. So I asked, and apparently people found multiple commanders confusing and they didnt know where to go. A simple colour coded system for different commander roles so you knew who to report to to do what you wanted to do would make massive headway on that front, but I was really disappointed in the seeming lack of willingness to try to make that coordination happen.
Only T1 servers and maybe some upper T2 guilds can pull off moving with multiple groups across a map. The problem is population – guilded WvW vs pugs. It takes an incredible amount of coordination to pull it off and more often than not, it fails to work due to miscommunication. Commanding militia and pugs is quite a difficult job due to having all kinds of builds and playstyles, trying to get them to work together. Trying to get that to work as a group moving independently to a/nother guilded group is just just takes so much patience that most people just don’t do it.That’s why you generally only see 1 tag, so sheer numbers mask poor composition.
If your server has voice comms, I recommend you join that and ask around in voice comms for help. It’ll be a lot faster than hopping maps asking for help.
