I tried out Aion 4.0 a couple of days ago. While the general storyline is fun and the graphics are very pretty, the combat is just awful. Stand in one spot while you cast a skill and get beat up by an AI with an attack that could be easily sidestepped… if you broke your casting… except that you can’t dodge at all and all attacks will hit even if the animation is no where near your character.

Having to run back every few minutes to a merchant to unload my bags also really bugged me.

I don’t really see the camera issue though. If you want a bad camera, try FlyFF. Lol.

Will be trying out TERA soon.

Hi Dabrixmgp,

The closest you will find to that right now is Tier 1 NA so JQ/SoR/BG. We have the most coverage for most time zones, then it gos down the tiers, T2 has less coverage then T1 but more then T3 and so on. Right now is a weird time to judge a servers population, with seasons just ending a bit ago, the holidays, new years, a lot of WvWs population is on hiatus playing other games and what not. I would suggest staying on SBI for another week or 2 to see how things work out, if they are still not what you are looking for I would suggest SoR or JQ. Both very good servers, great guilds, strong community’s, and you will always have some BG to fight.

BG zergs tend to explode on inc….at least lately. So going to JQ or SoR would ensure you a lot of loot.

Goooo Diamond Skin!, awful trait for my bursty type ele. However, I’m glad there are more eles defeating the broken constant steath mechanic that condition based mesmers tend to run and of course the players that still use the poor designed perplexity runes.

I’m not sure what they’re doing wrong, but I don’t have a whole lot of trouble taking 10% of an elementalist’s HP without conditions on my mesmer.

You shouldn’t. If you do, you’re doing something wrong. Most of this is just those pure condi necros being stupid and unable or unwilling to use a couple of new skills or a new build.

Eh, I don’t really feel the same way as the OP. It’s very possible to find small scale fights. 1v1s even. It’s just that I’m so often on my zerg build characters so I try avoid those fights if possible, since I can’t deal enough damage/condi pressure to kill the opponent and it takes them like 5 minutes to try and kill me (unless it’s a mesmer). Not worth it.

The rare occasions I do go roaming, I often find groups of 2-3 to fight. Even if it is 1v2-3, it’s still pretty fun.

BTW SoR and JQ, you guys need more roamers. Seriously. I’m also not talking about a group of 10-15 camping outside a keep. That’s not roaming. That’s just being useless.

If you’re in water attunement, then you can drop a water 2 and water 4 for quite a high amount of damage (my staff water 2 does between 2k-4k damage). If you’re in earth attunement, staff earth 2 also does a ton of damage.

I play a support staff ele and I get “tags” just fine. Position yourself better and you can let your hammer train do the initial stuns while you let off your fire attunement spells before switching to water to drop water fields.

PvE was always designed for the lowest common denominator. You will rarely get challenging PvE content since they’ll be abandoned by the majority of players (TA Aetherblades… it’s so hard to get a party for that even with cross-server LFG). The skillset is just fine for most classes. Just warriors seem to have an extremely faceroll, mash 1, autoattack on and afk type skill set. Other classes have to manage boons, cooldowns and weapon sets to maximise dps (and in the case of engi and ele, your f1-f4 abilities changing your skillset/playstyle).

There’s no real difficult end-game content in PvE because it was intended to be that way. If you want a challenge, go WvW (in a high tier server) or sPvP.

Mag has a pretty strong WvW population. sPvP is still going pretty strong as ANet just added in Tomes of Knowledge from glory vendors, making it extremely to level up alts from sPvP.

For PvE though, guest to JQ, BG or TC seems to be the general consensus.

Being a player that’s in WvW most of his time, I must say, all these comments about there not being enough challenge in fights is hilarious.

I believe ANet set up WvW to be the true endgame for GW2. The place where various armor builds can be useful and where teamwork and roles are more important than your stats.

Support? Mesmers, Guardians, Elementalists, Rangers, Engineers. Frontline damage absorption? Warriors, Guardians, Necromancers. Ranged damage? Mesmers, Elementalists, Engineers.

There’s also more arbitrary roles such as scouts and dolyak walkers.

Just seems to me that all the builds were revolved around World vs World, only to be broken by PvE players wanting more damage (Perplexity runes anyone?).

It’s all part of Anet’s plan to kill WvW. Start with T1 and the most populous servers, push them off the forums, kill a major part of their inter-server communication/rivalry/trashtalk/fun. Make the matchups boring as hell even though the populations are balanced. Then the cookie crumbles.

On topic though, I do agree with the OP that the matchup threads are amazing entertainment. I really do love some trashtalking going on between servers. It just means that people are dedicated to their server and trying to win. That’s a healthy environment for WvW in my opinion.

Rev I don’t believe he’s asking why you should be able to use them as defense. Just why you are able to do things like put it directly behind a gate so that the aoe hits the rams/golems directly on the other side.

Then by the same token, ACs and catapults shouldn’t be able to hit through the door too. Neither should people be able to attack through the door. You therefore need to balance it by allowing people to stand on top of the wall to damage your enemy without dying instantly due to ranged AoE damage.

If you can’t set up defensive trebs, then you must remove the ability to AoE damage the tops of walls, otherwise, there’s no way to defend structures at all.

Ele requires more skill to stay alive and deal dps. It’s not an easy class to learn.

Though if you’re a good d/d ele, you can run through a zerg dealing tens thousands of damage and come out the otherside with full health and all skills off cooldown ready to dish out the damage again.

Also, lol@zerk ele. Zerk eles are just bad. Die in 2-3 hits and absolutely useless.

You forgot body blocking. Body blocking really hinders zerging cause you can’t bump through eachother and attack 1 guy with 20.

So you’ll have a group of 20 warriors running together…? It won’t kill the zerg meta at all. It’ll just kill the game.

To OP: If you don’t like that play style, move up to T3 or higher. Either that, or join a more WvW focused guild that actively looks for both fights and PPT.

Otherwise, stop complaining. What you’re seeing is the result of a lack of manpower in your server to actively defend a structure, making it easier to flip structures back after they’ve been taken in order to preserve PPT. It’s actually quite a good strategy all things considered.

In T3 servers and up, roaming is necessary to contest bloodlust, cap camps and cut off reinforcements to enemy zergs. Medium sized groups are required to keep enemy zergs busy. Large size zergs brute force their way into structures. If that sounds like it’s for you, well, time to start saving gems to transfer.

Eh, we don’t flip structures for wxp/karma. We flip it because it adds to our PPT.

In the early days of WvW, people would try to defend captured objectives, for PPT. You rarely see that happen now. The invaders just leave and let the other side recap so they can take it again later for more WXP.

If you want to play defending, move up to T3 or above. Higher tier servers actively play defense.

The real problem is the best guilds and players are segregating to just a few servers that have 100% time zone coverage.

I suggest for just in WvW only for trial period, merge Blackgate with Devona’s Rest(1st place with last place), Jade Quarry with Eredon Terrace, Sanctum of Rall with Kaineng etc. Instead of 6 matchups there would be 4 each week. Every week would have different servers merged depending on results.

Chat line complaints would be fun to read if nothing else.

Would be nice just to get full maps again…

Mass ressing isn’t really a problem since you can mass DPS/CC the ressers. It’s not like they’re doing anything.

T2 and T3 are more balanced though, and it’ll depend on a few factors.

Ruins are kind of like defending… there isn’t much WxP, gold or karma in it, few points that count towards the server score and more sitting than action. In contrast, capping a camp is reasonably rewarding, counts toward the score and has a much better chance of finding a fight.

Ruins are a good concept but further illustrates how ANet really doesn’t get effective loot design.

If you give loot for capping ruins, you’ll see small zergs wandering around bloodlust to cap them, just like it was back in week 1-2 of leagues. Hell no.

Ok maybe you and you’re server don’t have problems that many other servers are having. I guess if you have seen as many times as many of us have, someone or groups saying oh let them take that don’t worry about it, we will just take it back and get more wxp/whatever. You would be just as sick from it. Is that not selfish behavior and reducing server cooperation.
Also, if you’re playing to win not for rewards, why are u even posting here what do you care.

If you have an issue with your server’s WvW style, perhaps it’s time to switch servers. Or else, organise your server’s WvW guilds together and hammer out your server’s core philosophies and fix your issues. Stop using other server’s successes as an excuse. Work our your own problems.

You are part of the problem. Not the solution.

Nice video. Don’t know why you bother blanking out the skills though. You’re using a Staff/Hammer and GS/Hammer combo. There’s only so many viable guardian utilities as well in WvW (mainly shouts).

Kinda cringeworthy how easily those pug zergs wiped, but I guess that’s EBG for you. Maybe we should run tagless too…

And this right here is the kind of attitude that helps keep people away from TS. Congratulations you’re part of the problem. “Can’t be bothered” “too lazy to listen” just because a person doesn’t want to download TS or has other reasons for staying away from voice comms? Do you say the same things in map chat to the people on your server?

If people aren’t willing to be in teamspeak, commanders aren’t willing to help them progress in the game. They can keep wandering around getting killed over and over while the people in teamspeak are following tagless and getting kills and bags. It’s 7it for tat. If you’re not willing to help the group, the group will not be willing to help you.

I don’t join TS when i’m WvWing because lol, it’s WvW. Stack up on the blue triangle and roll your face on the keyboard. It’s not rocket science.

If you die in a zerg, you’d die whether you’re on TS or not.

Maybe if getting commander tag actually required talent instead of just blowing a few gold you farmed day in day out in CoF P1 back then, hearing you whine all night long about stuff would actually be worth my time.

That’s a problem with your commanders and/or your server population’s general WvW coordination, not with voice comms. Voice comms will always help with coordinating movement across maps better than mapchat. When the call for retreat sounds, it’ll be the people not in teamspeak that dies. Not the people in teamspeak.

Now, if you’re ranged, it’s a bit of a different story. Ranged players shouldn’t ever be dying, no excuses. If they do, it’s due to poor positioning and poor skill usage, period. That said, the key as a ranged player is knowing what your skills do and how best they support your frontline, because that’s your job. The frontline is constantly playing interference to allow the backliners to free-cast. However, the frontline cannot play interference without intelligent backliners. As a backliner, you’re both support and the main tool to apply pressure.

Agreed with everything but this paragraph. Ranged tend to die easier in a push, especially if your front line fails to keep the enemy back. As a staff ele, I can live for quite a while, but after a while of fighting, cooldowns will catch up with you and you will die. There’s also certain people (thieves and mesmers mainly) from the enemy server that will target the backline and burst them down

Of course, I sometimes also sacrifice myself to throw a final waterfield on the commander.

30 people isn’t a zerg. I think you’d like t1, bigger blobs but also more of an emphasis on defense. Most of the servers hold and upgrade their stuff, and while waypointed keeps flip due to prolonged 2v1’s, it’s always a hell of a fight.

Maybe for your tier. In T3, T4, and below, anything with 15+ people is a zerg. Here’s the classifications we often use.

1-3 players = some enemies
4-8 players = small group
9-15 players = heavy group
15+ = zerg

T1 in NA prime:
1-15: Havoc group
16-25: Small group
26-50: Zerg
50+: Full map blob

Here’s the thing. In T1, we regularly defend against a larger group of 30+ in paper towers. More often than not, 1 door treb and 1 AC is enough to turn zergs away.

If the zerg stays to PvDoor, that’s just the sign of either a bad commander, or a very over confident one. Especially if it’s home BL Garrison or EB Keep, T1 will pull all their numbers to defend. 5 people is plenty enough to hold for at least 10-15 minutes until backup arrives (while sending warriors ahead to banner the lord).

If you feel your server doesn’t defend enough, maybe it’s time to look for a new server. Tier 1-Tier 3 all defend their keeps and towers pretty heavily.

Took me a while to realise your commander was speaking a mix of mandarin and english. I was just thinking for the first minute or so.. wtf language is that XD

Our chinese/taiwanese guild commanders do that too. Great seeing them try using english despite it being a second language.

There are ways of defending a 30+ force from attacking your keep, with around 5 people defending.

Supply draining treb shots.

You can’t assault a keep if you don’t have supply

If they rush you with golems and a zerg of 20+ though… that’s another story. You’re just boned if that happens

Don’t think BG will win this week honestly. We’ll see though.

I’ve noticed coverage across our 3 servers have dropped pretty significantly the past week compared to leagues. BG’s Oceanic got hit especially hard (dat 90 PPT!).

Tier 1-Tier 3 will probably be where you find the most fun in WvW. T1 being a little more hardcore and a little less so as you move down the tiers (though that’s not true of certain guilds).

TC would be a great server to transfer to. Friendly people, great to fight, great guilds etc etc.

Not willing to transfer when the only decent oceanic coverage lies in T1 and maybe SoS. I’m not going to transfer to a server where there’s no one to play with
