Why are these forums filled with so much abuse being hurled at people with different opinions? Why can’t people just acknowledge that different people like different things? That different people find different things interesting, and respect that?

It’s so tiring to see yet another thread of someone saying how ‘Abaddon will be much more interesting than some asura blowing stuff up’, or ‘Watching some human gods gang up on another? Yawn’. If you personally find one much more interesting, great, vote for that person, but don’t belittle and be so condescending just because others prefer something else; they’re not stupid, they just have different opinions and views, because that’s how the world works.

I really hope ANet doesn’t do anything like this again in the future, because it’s clear that many people playing this game are horribly close-minded.

Sanctum Sprint....when a good idea goes bad

The game is fun but easily turns irritating when you run into a bug.
Light Dash has a good chance for me to just stop for a second or two at the end of it, even when holding down forwards. Plus it often just has bad lag problems that makes it pretty much useless to use without Aspect Master.
Lightning Pull sometimes stops just before the platform for no reason, thus I fall.
Even the big jump has occasionally messed up and I’ll appear to make the jump, only to teleport below the platform and fall.
Fake Powerup has -far- too big a range and is simply impossible to avoid in certain areas, making first place the safest position in the race (Which is odd since it should be quite the opposite)

As for the shortcut at the end, how can it be called a bug or exploit? There’s a Jump powerup -right- there, how could ANet have overlooked that? And if they didn’t like it, they so easily could have removed it by now.

As has been said there’s a few heavy armour sets that show off more skin on men. Unfortunately medium and light armour-wearers get barely anything outside of a couple of cultural sets, which is a shame when I fancy having a better look at my guys. I mean female light-armour wearers get tonnes of revealing armour options, but we men get covered up in most of them, a travesty.

I use it, most people don’t seem to use it so it’s helped me come first a couple of times when I wouldn’t have normally. However, if they got rid of it I probably wouldn’t mind -too- much.

Also, can’t see how ANet could miss it considering there’s a jump powerup -right- there. Then again, this -is- ANet we’re talking about.

Is it bad to keep coming first?

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Ridley.3691

Ridley.3691

I pretty much agree with most people here, if people choose to give up their win so another can get first, that’s all well and good. However, calling people out as selfish and horrible if they don’t choose to do this is wrong, I mean they’re playing the race how it’s designed, how any -race- is designed, for the competitors to try and get 1st place. Even if the rewards were identical, if someone finds it fun to try their best and win, then that’s perfectly fine, and anyone badmouthing them because of it is frankly selfish.

Of course if someone is being really bigheaded or intentionally coming first solely to stop others winning, then that’s not really fair.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any way to change orders once you choose whose plan to do at the end of that arc. You do however still have access to the other order’s weapon and armor skins if you get them on another character and transmute the skin onto a white-quality item.

It was a really mean thing to do, and I’m not defending the person who did at all, but you can’t report them since they didn’t break any rules. Guild Stash management is wholly the responsibility of the players, ANet has stated their stance on it in the past. If you gave someone access to the guild stash and they took everything, they’ve technically not broken any rules since you -did- give them access to it.

Haven’t read through the whole thread, so sorry if it’s already been given, but a great way they can make Magic Find gear help party members is if Magic Find amongst party members was added together and divided equally between them.

Terminology

Could be because ‘Profession’ in WoW is their term for crafting, instead of Disciplines. Therefore people stick with calling Profession ‘Class’ and Discipline ‘Profession’ since they’re more used to it, I myself rarely ever call cooking or jeweling a ‘Discipline’.

Aha, aye, makes much more sense, I really need to take the plunge and get into doing dungeons/fractals. For those of us who try to avoid dungeons though, there really isn’t many ways to casually make gold.

I didn’t mean rare quality gear, I meant the more general use of the term rare, as in things like certain skins, tonics, minis, etc.

And I’m interested in hearing how you amass 20 gold in two days without doing anything special or any kind of farming. This of course means you can’t include farming dungeons, farming fractals, farming events, farming world bosses (doing every single world boss every day).

The economy in this game is just awful, rare items are ridiculously overpriced, and gold is too scarce for people to afford much without farming. Add to this that ANet seem to nerf farming spots pretty frequently and it’s just a chore.

I understand that easier gold = even higher prices, hence why the economy as a whole is screwed, I mean compare it to WoW, where yes, lots of stuff is overpriced, but the average player can more readily afford most stuff, and make gold at a good pace.

Is it time for the champion to get changed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ridley.3691

Ridley.3691

I’m surprised -this- is the Skill Point you’re upset with, at least the champion can be avoided relatively easily and thus getting the SP isn’t too hard.

The ones I’m annoyed with are the communing one in King’s Passage, there’s an event there where you need to kill some Dwayna priests and there’s a champion -right- at the SP, so you need to have another player there to pull her away.

Then there’s the one in southern Malchor’s Leap, another communing one at one of Dwayna’s Statues, there’s an event where a champion Risen Knight patrols the area and he moves -fast-, -very- tricky to solo that one if the event’s up (which it nearly always is since no one does champion-killing events due to the poor reward:time invested ratio)

Earning Gold

Earning Gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ridley.3691

I used to -never- have gold, but after they added the guaranteed rares from world bosses, I’ve steadily been earning enough through selling ectos and now have over 50g on my main, with about 10g on a few alts. All I can suggest is to do a few world bosses and cathedrals every day, salvage any rares you get with the BL Salvage Kit or Master Salvage Kit, and between them do some event running in Orr.

You don’t even have to do that much every day, I only farm events once a week if that, just doing some world bosses will net you a gold or two a day if you’re lucky.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I agree the event needs to be tweaked, I think the NPCs need a slight buff to health, and to have better AI so they don’t just stand in bad stuff. That and/or replace the dreaded morale bar with how many troops are up, and -all- troops need to die before the event fails.

As for bugs, I don’t think there are any bugs with it, or at least any bugs are rare, the instant loss of 75%+ of morale is just most of the troops dying instantly due to a wave of heavy-hitting AoE mobs spawning. You really do need either luck, or good coordination to win with only one group of troops, and most zergs just run in, kill things and hope for the best(not a good tactic for this event).

Ridley.3691

Me and friend have been doing the Personal Story together. We got up to A Light in the Darkness, and ended up completing it twice so we could choose different fears.

Eventually we both did Forging the Pact (his version of it), and because it’s a rather long and annoying quest, I chose to hand it in along with him, instead of completing my own version of it. Unfortunately, because of this, I’ve been given the quest ‘Tower Down’, which is from his choice of fear (someone dying because of me, or something), instead of the one I chose (my comrades looking down on me, the mesmer one).

I’m just wondering if there’s anything that can be done, and alerting ANet to fix this so it doesn’t ruin anyone else’s progression. As it stands there’s already quite a few things putting people off doing Personal Story quests together with friends.

Religion is a big theme and can greatly add depth to a fictional world if used correctly. I think saying ‘I don’t much care for it, why is it needed in my games?‘, is similar to saying ’I don’t care for romance, why is it needed in my games?’.

I think ANet uses it well, especially as they don’t try to completely copy any current real-world religion like other games do.

I’d have to disagree with you when you say ‘most events can’t be soloed’. Most non-group events and even some group events can be soloed by a guardian especially, I’ll admit that most group and a few non-group ones though are near-impossible to actually do on you own, but there’s heaps of events you can still do with no one else around.

As people have said and it’s a real problem, mid-level zones are really dead on most servers and I understand that you aren’t going to be able to get people to group together do kill champions, made worse by the fact that some champions can take -ages- to die and offer identical rewards to much faster events.

I’m sorry but anything ANet add into the game is going to exclude somebody. I understand how unfair it is but the only other alternatives are to have laurels purchasable (making the game pay-to-win), being able to farm them (excluding people with less time on anyway), or scrapping them completely. I suppose you could put in some sort of cap so you’d only be buying laurels that you missed earning, but I can see that being abused.

When you make the choice to work in one of these kinds of jobs, you do so knowing full well it means you wont be able to do as much things as someone who does a job with normal hours, and I know it sucks in this one instance (It’s the -only- time-gated thing currently in GW2 I believe), but you chose such a job.

While I don’t have trouble with most JPs, I do think that they shouldn’t put Vistas and Skill Challenges at the end of them.

As it stands at the moment, there’s a Skill Challenge in Straits of Devastation that requires the Vizier’s Tower JP, and Vistas in Diessa Plateau and Dredgehaunt Cliffs that both require JP completion too. Not really fair since JPs shouldn’t be ‘needed’ for 100% map completion.

I don’t see how it’s needed at all in a game like GW2. I mean in terms of leveling to the cap, GW2 has probably the fastest leveling of any MMO out there, once you’ve played through once and know what you’re doing, you can blast through hearts/events/exploration/crafting/personal story really fast and hit 80 pretty quickly.

Also, “The game starts at 80”. What game are -you- playing? Seriously, GW2 has the -most- on offer to all levels and the -least- max level-exclusive content of any MMO. WvWvW, PvP, events, hearts, crafting, fractals it’s all available to all levels, the -only- thing levels really grant you are access to more weapons/armour skins, dungeons and higher level zones, that’s all, and most of -those- don’t even require to be the cap.

Ideally I think there should be a good balance of revealing and non-revealing armour for all armour-types, to give people the choice. There should also be just as many revealing options for male-characters too (Which GW2 does better than most other MMOs, I’ll admit).

I mean as a gay guy, it can get infuriating when developers churn out all these overly-revealing armour-skins for women so straight guys can drool over them, but then I only get tin-can armour, at least there’s some options in this game to actually see some skin on men, but yus, equality and all that.

Fast, ‘Surprise’ sales do encourage people to spend when they wouldn’t normally though. If you’re told that you only have 24 hours to buy this item for 25% off, you’re much more likely to buy it than if it was on sale for 2 weeks, or if you were told 2 weeks earlier about the sale. It’s why most sale adverts on tv tell you to “Hurry, the sale ends in 2 days”. I believe the money they make from people doing this is more than if they gave people more notice.

Gems, Refunds & Sales

Ridley.3691

I really don’t see what the problem is, they announced the sales on the 3rd of January, and most retailers have ‘January Sales’, if you were so impatient and only waited until New Year’s Day before you spent your gems, that’s your fault and not ANet’s.

Also, I hear a -lot- of people complain about MMOs having sales and that they just missed them. People are going to be buying things only a day or two before they go on sale/are announced, and not everyone is going to see an announcement, this is bad luck, yeah, but it doesn’t mean they’re entitled to the sale because they didn’t buy the item during the sale. You seem to be missing the entire point of a sale, things are cheaper during the sale, not a bit before it, not a bit after it. If retailers choose to reimburse people who missed a sale, that’s their choice (And is likely due to the fact the person will just return it and buy it again at sale price if they don’t). Gem purchases are final and non-returnable, so ANet don’t need to reimburse people who miss the sale, and they’re not bad people for doing so, it’s common sense.

I agree with you though that it would have been nice if the sales lasted longer.
