Knee-Jerk Fix = what we have just gotten

I just don’t think punishing alt’s is the way to go.

In case this isnt super obvious by now Anet does not like alts, and by design makes them very difficult to play and keep geared.

Dyes announced as account bound before release, turns out to be character bound.

Announced no gear treadmill, less than 90 days after release start rolling out next tier of gear.

Laurels being account bound/daily bound and limited to 1/day even if you havew 10 alts, only way to obtain next tier of gear.

This new chest nerf.

Its very obvious to anyone paying attention Anet for whatever reason just does not like alts.

Sadly alt’s are my endgame. I never ran around looking for these Mega Bosses but it was nice to catch a couple of them and get rewarded for the fight. I will say that the Frozen Maw was ridiculously short and should have had his HP boosted or put in more adds.
Being that I am not a dungeon runner I liked having the option. But I thought from the start that Anet should have boosted the big event chains around all the maps. The mega bosses should have not been the only rewarding content boosted in the prior patch. It was a recipe for huge crowds showing up for the rewards.
So many options for Anet to choose from to mitigate the damage and they chose a nerf. And the TP has already responded to the announcement.
I have 40G spread between 3 lvl80 characters and 2 of them need gear. I am not greedy or a farmer. I just want to gear them up or even make a second set for WvW but with 14 ectos and about 6 rares banked it will be awhile. It was nice to see the prices become reasonable for a little while. Nice while it lasted.

yeah had i known this was coming i would have stocked up on ectos when they were in the low 20’s a few days ago for exotics for my alts.

Dyes are account bound, you get the dye and can give it to any alt you want.

ok true, but i know im not the only one who took that statement to mean you would have one dye panel to color all your charaters with. As in you do not need to purchase dyes for all charaters seperatly.

Perhaps something like this?

Gold Two: The guns – they’ve stopped!
Gold Five: Stabilize your rear deflectors… Watch for enemy fighters.
Gold Leader: They’re coming in! Three marks at 2-10!
Gold Leader: It’s no good, I can’t maneuver my camera
Gold Five: Stay on target.
Gold Leader: My heads in the way i cant see them!
Gold Five: Stay on target!
Gold Leader: I cant i’m a Norn i have clipping problems with the canopy
Gold Five: Gold Five to Red leader, lost Tiree, lost Dutch.
Red Leader: I copy, Gold Leader.
Gold Five: It came from… culling!

Yeah this is about it, the camera in this game is so bad i hope they NEVER use this engine for another game.

JP’s as Norn/Charr are like beating your head against a wall.

Ok so everyone will go back to pent/shelt runs with 200%+ MF.

Guess thats now how Anet is telling us to play their game again since it will again yield more rares than world events chests with the proposed nerf.

I just really wish Anet would make up thier minds on how they want us to play the game already so i can get into a routine, i dislike very much there week to week changes in how they want us to play the game. Pick something and run with it stop changing it up already.

Diminishing returns on kills hurts the game

And it’s not even farming, it’s that you can’t really just explore zones and kill going from event to event without running into DR especially in Orr where everything is tied to the same dr. so…exploring is out of the question, and everyones left with dungeons and dragons…wonder why we barly see people doing normal stuff, because there is little to no reward vs doing ANYTHING else.

I agree, unless you are just running pent/shelt constantly and getting enough drops even with DR because of the raw numbers of mobs killed exploring CS is completly uselss.

I dont even both killing mobs in CS anymore unless its shelt/pent runs.

Diminishing returns on kills hurts the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rifter.6591

I’m pretty sure you’ll find that diminishing returns are a good thing for the game in the long run.

DR is anti player and therefore not a good thing. There are other methods of controlling drops.

Except it isn’t really. It is anti farmer, DR benefits every single person who doesn’t spend hours farming trash in cursed shore.

Which is even more ironic because Anet has gone on record saying they dont have a problem with farming and that its ok to farm but yet still kitten people with DR.

Who is this game for? What right way to play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rifter.6591

Rifter.6591

The right way to play the game is to be casual and only play 1-2 hours a day.

This game is so rigged against players who would prefer to spend 8-12 hours playing a day for 2 days a week and rigged for casuals who play 1-2 hours a day that its just sad.

Play for 24 hours a week in 2 days and get kitten by DR most of the time and get 2 laurels only and only a few world event chests since they reset daily. Play for 7 hours a week but a hour a day and be rolling in ecto’s and have 7 laurels, its like a bad joke that player who plays 3 times less but how Anet wants get huge rewards, player who plays three times more but only over 2 days gets screwed.

There is no “play it your way” involved at all that was a outright lie by the devs because if it was true DR would not be as punishing as it is, and world event chests would not be limited per day. The way it is set up now is very obviously trying to appeal to causals and punish hardcore players.

In my warrior sure #5 spear attack FTW.

In any other class probaboly not.

If they made it so all skills actually worked underwater i would be alot more open to underwater combat but the truth is 90% of the skills i set up my builds with dont work underwater and i dont like wasting skill points to put into skills i only use 5% or less of the time.

Rifter.6591

This game does not want you to attack mobs from a location on the map where they can’t fight back. They had a lot of problems with this in gw1. As a result, they introduced this. I think this is fair.

So you think its fair for mobs to be able to hit you with range attacks and do damage while being invulnerable themselves? I find that hard to believe.

I think a lot of things may be slightly unfair. Stealth-using mobs, one-hit kills from Champion Risen Abombinations, and the fact asura haven’t been subjected to genocide yet for being smug and insufferable.

I also understand what I find unfair is often not the same as what other people think of as unfair. (“Of course it’s fair my thief can one-two-three you into downed, then finish from stealth. Learn to play!”)

To clairify i dont really have a issue if the mob is not ranged, but if it is and is doing damage to me i had kitten well better be able to do damage to it. This would be such a simple tag to add to the code i dont understand why this is such a hard fix for anet to make.

If a creature was hitting me with a ranged attack, I haven’t had the displeasure of finding one I couldn’t hit back.

I will see if i can get it on video its not hard to accomplish with the right situation, i just bought the full version of fraps so now have the ability to record gameplay. I will see if i can get a vid up on the weekend. I just started my 4 day work week of 12 hour shifts so obviously wont have any guild wars time till thursday but will attempt to make my first GW2 video then to highlight this issue.

Waypoint fees are a nessesity so stop the griping people and figure out how to make up the cost, how to spend less on your waypoints or better yet how not to hit overflow to begin with

Because i dont have a choice, its either that or spend 30 min running across the world just to end up in overflow anyways.

Also the new dailiys with the region specific kills/events require alot more WP’ing than the old ones.

I use crafting to speed level my alts.

I got my first toon to level 80 used him to farm gold then use that gold to buy materials to craft with my alts. What i usually do is right from the start on a alt buy him a trade XP booster from gemstore transfer him 20 gold and max crafting of two crafts. This usualy results in me getting my alts over level 20 sometimes in the high twenties without even leaving my home city.

I find it more than worth the 20-25 gold to get the boost on leveling. Sometimes its alot less gold than that if i have a supply built up of materials.

Here’s the Anet respond from Gaile Gray (Support Liaison)
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10a0qk/official_response_clarifying_the_stance_on_mods/

Combat Mode(Verson 1.1) does not give you an advantage over other players and does not automate your game play, more over, it is an overlay program that does not alter the games files in any way, so technically it is not bannable. Combat Mode Ver 2.0 however, alters the game’s UI files, making it a bannable mod.

See this is exactly what i wanted, a solid answer. Which also means i know alot of people who will be banned soon because i know alot of people running 2.0.

Rifter.6591

Do you only play one character? if so that is your issue.

I got hit hard with DR on my warrior, farmed CS for about 80 hours over a few weeks and was doing ok till after the first week then my drops turned to crap, changing map zones didnt help, not logging in for 48 hours didnt even help. The first week i got some good rare drops no exotics though, but that second week i got zero rares, only 2-3 greens and absolute crap for moldy bag drops as well.

Then i rolled a Thief and played only him for 2 weeks, went back to my warrior and he was back to getting good drops. Since then i play my warrior less than 2 hours a day absolute max and never more than 30 min in same map zone. And so far DR has not returned.

So IMO rolling lots of toons is a requirement to farm in this game as DR is way to punishing to people with only one character.

They said they would not ban for it.

As it does not modify any GW2 files, nor does it automate anything it is legit.

It would be like you putting a sticker on the middle of your screen for crosshairs and setting your mouse up to handle actions differently then getting banned.

Not gonna happen.

It would have to modify the UI files themselves or at the least redirect the client to the combat mode files, either way that would be modifying some gw2 files.

Actually it doesnt mod any files……. you don’t need to modify a games files to add a simple direct 3d crosshair to a screen…. perhaps you should research a bit.

I will look into it, but untill Anet responds to this post officially i wouldnt try it. The level of moderation on these forums makes me think they are the throw the book at you lock you up and throw away the key type of comany. I wouldnt want to have to deal with them about a banning issue.

I edited my post above with a response…. you think a program as wide spread as combat mod didn’t already go through this lol…. old news…. many many months ago.

They cant officially approve it for many reasons as stated in their response…. but they also say they are not going to ban you for the use of programs that are not giving you an advantage. Basically if its not modifying the game directly, automating it, or giving you some other advantage that other players cant get unless using the program they are likely not going to ban it. Its also menchoned they are are aware of other programs that do other things that they dont ban for because they meet that specific criteria.

Trust me if they banned for it there would be hardly anyone play gw2 lol…. just about everyone I know uses it now days, and like said above your seeing it in more and more youtube videos and on streams.

Pretty common place now.

Like i said above i just want a strait answer, is combat mode allowed or not, yes or no.

As i said you could make a valid argument that it does give you an advantage just due to being able to change the cursor color/shape to one that you dont loose constantly in heavy combat, which would then make it against the rules as stated in that reply.

Also this was covered a long time ago by Anet on this specific “addon” if thats what you want to call it:

not even a minute on google turns up much info and dev responses about the info…. please research.
This is a very interesting question, and I appreciate hearing your thoughts.

As you are aware, we cannot approve or review or “vet” any third-party program; that is a given. However, our position is somewhat different than the one expressed in the GM response, so I’ve already contacted the team to be sure that everyone is on the same page.

Our general statement is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden. There are many utilities that help the player without taking a hit on others, without, for instance, being a detriment to the other players in a match. TexMod is one example of a program that doesn’t really give anyone an advantage over someone else. I’ve heard about certain programs that help disabled players, and those seem just fine, too. And of course there are others. We can’t say “Sure, use this and that and that other thing” because that’s tantamount to “approval,” but we do recognize the distinction between advantage-giving programs and those that simply make it easier to play the game under specific circumstances.

Thanks for pointing out that response. We’ll get things clarified so that future responses are consistent with our policies.

I think it’s ok to share this. I just want to be very clear that:

(1) we don’t review or approve programs, and

(2) programs can sometimes contain components that a legitimate player doesn’t realize is a cheat element

In the end, it’s good to go VERY cautiously with the use of any third-party program, but we appreciate that there are definitely situations when a helpful, non-advantage-giving program is extremely beneficial to players.

Considering how bad the stock UI is, and how many people compain about loosing the cursor in combat heavy situations i would think you could make a valid argument that anyone using combat mode DOES have an advantage over those that do not.

However from that reply it seems its ok but they dont come right out and say that either.

I wish they would give us a straight answer.

You cant seriously be that dense, ok take any heart where you need to “clear the road” of hostiles, there are many of them in the game in various zones. You spend 10 min running down the road killing the hostiles and destroying roadblocks/signs/whatever else the heart calls for. You go back the next day and guess what, there are still hostiles on the roads and roadblocks because guess what, other players also need to be able to do that heart quest.

Sure the guy will remember you did it and cleared the road but you didnt really clear the road because its still infested with hostiles.

You get a free shot to pick something meaningful, like Meatoberfest going on nigh forever, but you pick this? That’s taking a strike willingly, my friend.

I mean, the ones that come to mind are keeping the road clear of Sons of Svanir . . . which have that tendency to keep coming back because there’s always more of them out there. And they want to do this.

In the same vein, they’re going to continue trying to destroy Jora’s Statue because . . . they really, really hate her and there will always be someone wanting to put it right when it gets wrecked because she is kind of a big deal to the norn.

This isn’t “Lord Nagafen” dying and coming back every week like clockwork (“Oh Veeshan’s Shiny Butt it’s those idiots from Fires of Heaven again, well, better roar menacingly and hope they get it over with fast. I don’t get paid enough for this gig.”) or Hogger always being around tormenting newbies,

This is a faceless organized gang being disruptive.

It’s not even like the dragon champions aren’t covered – the dragons make many champions. “The Shatterer” is a title afforded to a particular type of champion, as is “Claw of Jormag”. Tequatl, I have no excuse for . . . and would have been a stellar choice to set up for a rant about how you kill it every three hours and it always comes back.

Right, but the point is nothing you do does matter, everything does revert back to original state next time you go to that area.

And if the poster above in this thread is correct heart quests wernt even in the game when the manifesto video was made so heart quests are not what was being talked about in the video anyways by Ree, i wasnt even the one who brought them up i was just stating that they are not permanent changes.

What does this video mean to you?

You cant seriously be that dense, ok take any heart where you need to “clear the road” of hostiles, there are many of them in the game in various zones. You spend 10 min running down the road killing the hostiles and destroying roadblocks/signs/whatever else the heart calls for. You go back the next day and guess what, there are still hostiles on the roads and roadblocks because guess what, other players also need to be able to do that heart quest.

Sure the guy will remember you did it and cleared the road but you didnt really clear the road because its still infested with hostiles.

Also, its on them to CLEARLY state what they are talking about not for me to magically read there kittening minds. That video was VERY poorly filmed/edited and said NOTHING AT ALL about the context colin or ree was talking about.

Mmhm. Heart event name, please?

I will post back next time im leveling a alt and find one, hard to do once you have map completion because it fails to tell you what you had to do when you originally got the heart when you go back to that area.

Had i known from the getgo what colin was talking about, and what Ree was talking about i can tell you it would have saved me alot of aggrivation.

Pay attention, then. That’s on you and not them.

Even the hearts arnt permanent changes, sure you are done it after you kill X centars or bandits or collect X items or whatever the situation is and then you are done.

But those centars/bandits/whatever are still attacking and burning the farm, long after you have “saved” it.

I realize that this would be very hard to implement in a MMO which is also why i think they should have left that part of the video where it belong, as nothing more than a dream of a game design that is not possible to implement.

Yes, the heart events are permanent changes. That’s a fact. The end.

What you may be describing is another type of event. Dynamic world and group events replay. This is also a fact.

But if you’re going to argue the case instead of just trolling per the OP, lay down some cold hard facts why heart events are not a permanent change.

Which event is this exactly that you’re describing? What kind of event is it?

Heart event != Other kind of event.

Prove me wrong.

In my opinion, invulnerable mobs are a bad design

It happens a lot for my ranger when using a longbow

Where, how, and I want to check this out because I don’t seem to have this issue as much as you. I want to be able to replicate this.

I really dont see how you are having a issue finding this bug, i cant avoid it with my thief using a shortbow unless i actually put in alot of effort into trying to avoid it.

Just go and engage in fight over very uneven terrain. Find a cliff side in queens or somewhere 600 feet long and say 40 feet tall with a way up from either end with centars because they are often ranged. And go up on it into the middle of it so enemies below would need to run 300+ feet either direction to get up to you and start shooting at them. Chances are the AI will be to dumb to figure out how to get up to you so will go invulnerable but the ranged ones will still have no issue shooting back at you from down below while they have god mode enabled.

I recently did a jumping puzzle of sorts in the Thaumanova Reactor, in the “Ice Room”. There’s a veteran ice elemental on a ledge you need to jump to. It can fire back at you but it cannot path to you. If you stand in its range it will fire back and throw skills. If you step back . . . it starts regenerating like crazy but did not go invulnerable.

(It might as well have been, though.)

I have also had Veteran Risen Giants I wind up dragging too far away from their normal areas path back the same way, but that’s from leashing and is . . . as far as I can tell, definitely intended.

I have not had a target go straight-up “invulnerable” with one exception: monsters which get too close to the water surface. Which has been happening less of late.

If you want a easy to find way underwater go north of ice flow waypoint in frostgorge and fight those 2 vetran jellyfish, they are well below the surface no where near it but will go invulnerable multiple times in a fight and swim away heal ungodly fast then come at you again, whicle you are in combat the whole time and dont heal.

I actually fought one once for over half a hour to see if i could kill it and couldnt, must have pulled the god mode invulnerable crap on me 50+ times in that one fight. But other times i can kill them as normal, it does seem very intermittant.

Is it really necessary to keep making these same exact threads?

Nope.

lies, lies everywhere! shame!

Nope.

One of my favourite claims are that they are against mobs respawning 10 minutes later to be killed. Oh I understand so 1 hour is better right? Well it is 6x more. This contridicts what they said about that. IN MY OWN SERVER I get put into overflow server because so many are doing the SAME event.

Hold it. Sounds like more then a few someones are having a good time if the event is so popular that you’re being dumped into an overflow as a result.

So much for that whole ‘the game is dying’ thing you people were harping on no less then a month or so ago.

And yes no one cares if we killed it and yes thousands are doing the same thing.

dont get me wrong, i like this game..instead is the only game i play atm since is free after all and is good time silk, but dude: that colin johanson or wtv hes name is, is no to be trusted anymore. i hate when they use marketing ploy to cheat on me.

The chick isnt any better, i mean seriously she talked about changing the world, lasting effects, people remembering you helped their village?

Its all complete load of kitten. You rescue a village and 10 min later its under attack again, you save someone farm and 10 min later its under attack again, there is ZERO permanent changes like she is talking about in this game.

The NPC’s care, BTW. That’s the point. It’s a story.

Several send you a thank you note, with money, and those folks aren’t in the most dire of straights they were in prior to your assistance.

You can’t replay the hearts. You had a permanent impact.

But no I seriously doubt most event farmers or even folks not big on the game lore give two kittens about any of it in general, let alone stuck around long enough to hear or else read the event conclusion dialogue.

I wonder how many actually took the time to read those letters?

Yes, the world events restart after a bit. What else did you expect to happen? One time Kralkatorrik general fight?

Build a bridge and get over it.

Again, those who read the clarification when it was posted, shortly after the video was released, would know that Ree was talking about the personal story and Colin was talking about dynamic events.

Anyone following the game would remember that Colin said many MANY times that changes made in dynamic events are persistent and not permanent. It’s been explained over and over again.

Years after the video was made, it’s very easy to take it out a context. It’s simply an easy target. But there are no lies here. Just people misunderstanding information.

Perhaps this is true, as i said ive seen the colin clairification not ree’s, and the poster i quoted was talking about her talking about the hearts so perhaps he got that from somewhere i dont know.
