Staggering Blow getting an animation that allows movement was brought up in a dev stream last week. The devs don’t like the skill either and are considering options for making it easier to use. The example given was to only have it reduce movement speed and not lock you in place.

Know your build as you should know your weapon choices. As such, staggering blow with knock back is the bomb for knocking people off cliffs and such in WvW. That said, that is one reason why I love banish on Guardian, as well. It is hilarious to ping pong an enemy between two or three friendly’s…

If everyone believed anything you remotely said, we would all believe SoR are dominating Tier 1 week in and week out, when truth be told, you all are slowly but surely heading out of Tier 1. While zerker is the best, I don’t hate on anyone for taking anything that they think is best for their build. MF, on the other hand, is not a build choice. It’s a loot gain choice at the expense of the other party members. In no way does MF enhance any build in the game in any situation at all. At least with PVT you can be deluded into thinking you are tanking or it might occasionally save you if you fail to dodge or whatever.

Apparently, you are a pro-PvE’er and not one who plays WvW religiously. PVT is the bomb in WvW for a guardian, as well as aspects of mixed knights.

See thats part of the issue right now, there is pretty much one build for dungeons, 0/x/30/30/x with zerkers gear. There is no real deviation from that at all in terms of effectiveness. I personally have no issue lowering the damage on what could be considered the most sustainable damage build in the game, and actually giving it to the damage trees. I look at traits on a basis of build diversity. In dungeons, there is none for guardians. But as i said, this is all personal opinion, and obviously traits would need to be moved aroud alot if that stat set up ever came to happen.

Erm no. There is quite some deviation from the typical AH build since more and more people have already moved or are moving towards DPS builds which are way more effective when played correctly. If AH takes a beating by stripping Valor of the crit damage, you just reduce build diversity and force everyone into the DPS builds.

I sure hope your are talking PvE cause in WvW a DPS Guardian in zerg v. zerg situations usually melts like butter. ‘Effective when played correctly’ translates into what exactly, roaming, etc.?

0/0/30/30/10, all PVT, use Melandru Runes coupled with lemongrass soup, either dagger/dagger or axe/dagger and play frontline. Use your plague to lead the zerg in, blind, blind, blind, and let the zerg mop up = bags galore.

Your staff use is great and all but you do realize that if you led your zerg into the enemy zerg with plague, your blinding ability would simply allow you zerg to obliterate the enemy, while collecting massive bags?

^This. Drop wells, pop Lich Form. Alternatively, drop wells, pop DS with Deathly Precision followed by 5 and 4. Either way, anything standing in the wells is dead by the time the wells expire. Immobilize also comes in handy here..

As for the builds, my favorite is a 30/10/0/0/30 zerker build. A bit glassy, but has some lovely aoe

If in WvW, you also die “lovely” and quickly, if not careful, given the build you have indicated is more a backline build than anything else. I prefer to be frontline, hence, I run a different build and my wells still dish out respectable damage (WoS doing 4K+).

The one problem I have this with this build is the use of Save Yourself – please do not go “OMG! Idiot!!” flame me yet, hear me out.

I play a frontline AH-based guardian build for a very hardcore EU WvW guild [HB] – mainly mace/shield and staff but often switch to hammer and staff given various open field situations. As a guild, we largely run 20+ zerg type engagements and with the megablob meta currently taking place, conditions are killer. Example, I play on Blackgate, we often run into large zergs from SoR, JQ, or TC that are heavy hammer train backed with heavy necro AoEs.

Even if you use Save Yourself as an opener just before engaging, once you get into the heat of the zerg v. zerg battle (even when peeling the onion, so to speak – skirting the zerg and killing outwards to inwards), your burning through your other skills/shouts (Stand your Ground and Hold the Line coupled with Soldier runes) as quickly as they come off CD. That said, if one uses Save Yourself at the wrong time, your Guardian will suddenly, more times than none, find itself with 7-9+/- conditions on itself, with no other shout to remove them because they are still on CD. That, in some to most cases, because you are still in the thick of the zerg v. zerg combat taking damage from that combat, will result in a quick death.

Contemplation of Purity is a good counter to those mass conditions right after using Save Yourself but it replaces a valuable shout. Anyhow, I have resorted to removing the use of Save Yourself because of what I have described above – doing such has not diminished my AH-based Guardian in any noticeable way. I am not trying to convince anyone to stop using Save Yourself, simply letting you know the experience(s) of one AH-based frontline Guardian in a WvW zerg v. zerg environment.

Look, let’s be frank here. In most WvW guilds (at least on Blackgate), the warrior 8 times out of 10 (exceptions being rifle warriors for targeting zerg commanders), will be using near full PVT gear. If a warrior roams, no doubt he is going to NOT be in near full PVT gear.

Dude, spare us the outrage, kkthx. I, among a multitude of others, have seen TW, IRON, FEAR, and a host of other SoR guilds do the very same thing.

I am sorry to hear that. To be perfectly honest, I have no problems with thieves downing me in two shots, but then again, I run a PVT Power tank build (0/0/30/30/10) with full stack of bloodlust = near 2700 power coupled with over 2K toughness and near 3K armor. Granted I mainly run this in groups, but when transiting solo to get with group and a thief jumps me, once I drop into plague, they bail pretty quickly.

You people are hilarious – there are so many good and viable Necro builds out there that simply rock. A lot depends upon how one plays their Necro that makes them allegedly ‘weak’ or feel ‘nerfed’, IMHO.

Not really. They wiped to our 15 plus a couple of random spectators they didnt manage to kill when they rolled through them while we were GvGing.

I switched to my stacking weapon as we chased them to the bridge and went from 0 to 25 stacks before the fight was even half way over. It is kind of cute that they posted a very small clip fighting an enemy they out numbered from the start, had a huge advantage over, and still had to edit out both the beginning and the outcome where they wiped to a smaller force… with survivors retreating to a tower.

Even funnier because they wiped two more times with superior numbers over us and spent the rest of the night running on inc and porting away. Funny trolling there. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. Thanks for the good time…. but wait until after a GvG is done next time.
