Wow. Not only the gem exchange fiasco, but now they’re charging gems to kittening raffle off the skins that people want instead of bringing them back like every other Halloween skin? What is even going on with this company.

Rising Dusk.2408

I agree with everyone else. There is absolutely nothing positive gained from this change for anyone. We have lost two important functionalities here:

  • Can no longer view the fluctuation in the price of gems
  • Can no longer select how many gems or how much gold you want

These absolutely must be reverted; anything else is unacceptable.

Problems:

  • You cannot track market fluctuations in gem prices.
  • You cannot select the amount of gems or gold you want, you only get these horribly placed fixed increments.

Revert. Please.

strange, I make completely nondescript or “anyone welcome” lfgs and I either get bombed by people who know me or other experienced players from smaller dungeon guilds … who probably recognise my name.

Being recognized is nice when it gets you smoother runs! But the next time I run into some bad players (later tonight, probably) I’ll tell them to whisper you for dungeon tutoring.

Reading is hard for people. I post as follows:

p#, L80, experienced

…and it does pretty well on average. The number of times I kick players who enter the dungeon on their L56’s or whatever is astonishing, though. Fortunately, I qualify under Miku’s rules for what counts as experienced in all dungeons, and yeah a lot of times I carry a bunch of bad players, but sometimes I get people who join who really do know what they’re doing. On the flip side, if I don’t advertise for experienced, I never get any experienced players without fail. That’s the only reason I use that advertisement, because it sometimes works as opposed to never works.

It’s not too bad in the end, but it could certainly be better.

Many players do not enjoy “playing” the TP, and do not seek to get the most value out of their loot, if they sell through the TP at all. This would likely increase the perception of such items as “vendor trash” among those who aren’t interested in crafting, and lead to more players selling mats to vendors and/or buy orders.

They are also likely to buy from sell orders more often, I did in the beginning when leveling several toons through crafting. So this may have the unintended effect of putting cheaper mats into the hands of flippers through buy orders who sell them to other players through sell orders, increasing the margins between the two and thus making more money for flippers and less for dungeon runners.

There is nothing wrong with more items in the market if it’s regulated. 3 T6 from a dungeon instead of 1g would regulate the price of T6, keeping them from skyrocketing, and potentially even make some other items more valuable in response. Flippers are not a bad thing, they are good for the economy. Putting more items in their hands, thus, is also a good thing.

Also, as JS said this is an important faucet for introducing gold into the economy. Without enough faucets, gold sinks like the TP could do their job too well and reduce the amount of gold in circulation to the point where the average player cannot earn enough gold to use the TP to buy the things he needs and wants. Giving us things to sell needs to be balanced by giving us the money to buy them with.

The TP is a dynamic gold sink that adjusts to the current state of the economy; it, by design, will never do its job too well. Dungeons are but one faucet among many, and it is largely because of dungeon gold that item prices, such as precursors, are where they are now… and we all know how much people complain about the high prices of items.

It doesn’t necessarily lead to inflation, but it is a major input of liquid currency into the economy.

For the record, this is exactly why I dislike it. It becomes just another facet in “it’s always more worth it to farm gold and buy what you want than to get the item itself”. Imagine if, instead of gold, dungeons rewarded 3 T6 every time you completed a path instead? I think that’d be much cooler (as a player).

Although that’s not a question, so I don’t expect a response. :P

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rising Dusk.2408

I think the token solution works perfectly in the case of rare / exotic weapons into the Mystic Forge. I don’t think it’s necessarily appropriate everywhere.

I think things like Geodes work well for Dry Top currencies. The problem is multiple there, though. The Geode being an item is the first problem, since then it takes inventory space. What should have been done is to have it be an actual currency, and then remove the “Pile of Silky Sand”, and have Geodes drop instead. Then, since the Geode is no longer an item, you can scale up the Geode rewards for events + story / prices for items, and everything in Dry Top now actively rewards you even when you don’t loot a precursor (unlikely). I think that, as an example, would be the best way to showcase how loot as a general rule of thumb should work.

I also agree with Becka Williams.4978 above. I’ve been doing Triple Trouble for months upon months, wanting a Regurgitated Armor chest. However, I’ve never gotten anything other than the 70 Dragonite Ore reward. It’s hopelessly demoralizing and makes every reward feel like garbage because “Oh, just another day where I won’t get the only thing I want…” A token system where you received a token for every time you didn’t get an armor chest, and then you could buy an armor chest for ~20 tokens would alleviate that issue a ton, and make me feel like actively doing that event again to make progress towards a goal.

Gauging Interest: PUG Tournament

Rising Dusk.2408

Iris’ idea is really solid. The advance by not losing archetype is a much stronger approach than a standard tournament bracket for this kind of thing, and the constant shuffling means that RNGing a really good team won’t smash everything. It does make streaming tougher, but if streamers gain some incentive and there are enough, then it could still work out.

The only thing you really have to be careful of is how long a tournament like this could take. Eliminating only 1 team at a time might be painfully slow, but this could be turned around if it were a single path as opposed to a BO3 like the team tournaments we’ve had thus far. I think doing a single path might make the chaos even more intense, and might make managing the tournament hell, but that could work.

Very cool ideas, though; I would definitely participate.

Rising Dusk.2408

The only thing I’ll say, Lilith, is that there is a reason there isn’t a solo queue SPvP tournament, and it’s because everyone is going to get frustrated with the weakest link in their party, and even if they’re good sports about it, they’re going to feel like they are wasting their time or not waste their time and quit the tournament or act out and ruin it for the team. At the end of the day, no one in those groups will ever play the tournament a second time around.

I don’t necessarily know if there’s a good solution for that, or if we maybe just need to grind it into peoples’ heads that it’s just the way it is.

The only other thing I really dislike about a tournament like this is that it’s so RNG-based. What if some group rolls a bunch of pros? They’ll clean house on a bunch of pub-rife groups. Is that fun to watch / participate in?

As soon as you make it a speedrun, you invite very skilled competitors such as the major guilds. In the face of [SC], [rT], etc., what pub group would want to compete? Even with RNG’d teams, you will get a lot of really really strong players entering, which will alienate players who might not be as good.

Imagine the stress if you’re a casual dungeoneer and get a group of super serious players by RNG and you can’t keep up. Now you’ve got teams eating themselves apart by their weakest links, really demoralizing that poor pub. I mean, hopefully we’re all pretty nice people, but when you want to win you want to push people and it’s frustrating when they just aren’t up to scratch.

I’d certainly enter, but I wouldn’t expect a revolutionary level of participation.

vote kicks

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

Vote kick must exist. Too many people would abuse it by going afk or otherwise being a jerk on purpose. What they need to do is make it majority and require 3 votes. Whoever decided it would only take two probably should have thought about it a little harder xD.

I’m curious if the others in this thread also agree that 3 votes would make the system equally effective (for yes, it seems vote kick must exist, as Woljnir says) but perhaps less arbitrary.

Or would 3 bring a whole new set of challenges?

It should definitely be a majority.

  • 5-person party: 3 votes
  • 4-person party: 3 votes
  • 3-person party: 2 votes
  • 2-person party: 1 vote

I can see literally no downside to this except in the case where people are afk, but even then, once they get there they can weigh in and kick or not. 3 votes would also need a mechanic for someone to say “No” but for it to not end the vote until everyone has voted or it becomes no longer possible to achieve the necessary N votes for the kick.

I think proper party controls are more valuable in the grand scheme of things, though. That is a much greater development effort, however, but is something that should appear as a CDI or John Corpening level discussion.

Having it so that you are rewarded the bronze, silver, and gold chests could be a great way to help balance out the rewards and make doing TT feel worth it. Triple Trouble Loot Inferior to Teq

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rising Dusk.2408

This is something that bothers me a lot.

Tequatl is a pretty tough world boss for randoms to put together a group and win. It needs some communication and planning, but players have gotten pretty good at it and can pub it pretty well. It’s in a good place for a “medium difficulty boss”.

Tequatl rewards:

  • Chances at:
    • Ascended Weapon
    • Unique Ascended Weapon Skinset
    • Some cool minis
  • 13k Karma Consumables (and 8+ Events)
  • 2g
  • 4 Champ Boxes
  • 4 Guaranteed Rares (or Better)
  • ~20 Guaranteed Greens (or Better)

Triple Trouble is a very difficult event, requiring at a minimum 90 organized players properly geared out for DPS with the skillset to perform a number of roles, including egg blocking, condi team, and mechanics teams for each wurm. Triple Trouble also has much tougher time limits, coordination requirements for decapitations, and more. I would easily label this as a “hard difficulty boss”.

Triple Trouble Rewards

  • Changes at:
    • Ascended Armor Chest
    • Regurgitated Ascended Armor Chest
    • A cool mini
    • A rifle skin
  • No Karma Consumables (and 4 Events)
  • 2g
  • 5 Champ Boxes
  • 4 Guaranteed Rares (or Better)
  • 12 Guaranteed Greens (or Better)

Something is seriously wrong here. Why isn’t Triple Trouble rewarding karma consumables in excess of what Tequatl rewards considering it’s harder content? Why is it rewarding the same amount of gold for a much more difficult event? Why do we get fewer greens, which results in less gold or less luck or less mats or whatever?

The Triple Trouble event should reward:

  • ~20k Karma Consumables
  • ~10 more Greens
  • ~2 more Rares
  • ~2 more Champ Boxes
  • ~1g more

..of course the numbers are debatable, but it needs some kind of improvement considering the difficulty of the content.

Need should take priority over want.

Neither getting the achievements done nor farming are needs. She asked permission because she is one (1) person asking many (>1) people to do something they ordinarily wouldn’t do. That sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and their reaction was noble; they had no obligation to finish the event.

The only “toxicity” that happens at these chains is when people start being rude because they demand that others do what they want even if they don’t want to.

I asked the FGS folks if we could try to rope something together, but it was a matter of too little too late. It’ll be too stressful trying to put things together last minute, so people aren’t interested. It’s a shame, but the timing is what it is.

It isn’t build defining, its literally just something to give us pressure because we lack pressure so much already. We don’t truly have Terror-mancers anymore that are defined by taking the maximum fears they can, we have either tanky-PoC necros which are defined by their difficult to kill in small fights and their corruptions, and Dhuumfire which is defined by its higher offensive output.

The idea that there ever was a Terrormancer, regardless of if its fallen out of PvP meta or not, is indicative of its ability to define a build. Furthermore, it wouldn’t even necessarily constitute a nerf since they’d have to move a GM trait down to compensate, and could do that such to maintain the same build options as before.

The buff has enabled the power Ranger in a number of scenarios. It is fun, effective, but not OP. Comparisons to 100B fall severely short considering that 100B cleaves, is melee, and cannot be reflected. Furthermore, the faster cast time of RF means that more of it can be dodged / blocked, and at high ranges, you can even just sidestrafe the arrows and avoid a number of the shots.

I think the skill is in a perfect spot now. Any stronger and I’d say it is too strong, but it is perfect in its current form. A Ranger has to sacrifice a number of survivability traits and weapons to tech deep into Longbow efficiency, and that comes at a severe cost.

You can beat them; they are just no longer something you see in the open field and laugh at as you bowl them over. That’s very good for all metas.

We’re still recruiting and still looking for some good friends! The ideal candidate is one who is pretty chill, relaxed, willing to play on their own, but who likes to be a little kittenatty in guild chat here and again, and who is excited to participate in guild missions, possibly guild world events, and any other random things that come up. If these things sound pretty good to you, let one of the officers know! We’d be happy to discuss it with you and see if you’re a good fit!

It seems that changing your dyes causes the minipet to get unchecked as well. Could we fix that while we’re at it?

One of my personal story instances (Chapter 8 ) last night rewarded me with 3 Charged Lodestones. It blew my mind! I love the new rewards.

I noticed that recap was missing talk about Guild Instances that could be used for world events that are spawned through the guild like Tequatl or Triple Trouble. I consider that one of the most, if not the most, important QOL update that guilds need right now.

I farmed about ten Large Skulls in an hour of random mob killing from Timberline Falls last night. If the value rises any more, then that will become a seriously profitable farm and prices will balance accordingly.
