Maybe some day they will become account-bound and you can give it to another character? Or is it account-bound yet?

Rings are already both Account Bound & Soulbound on Equip. The OP probably equipped both rings, thus soulbinding them (and thus making a second mistake).

Use the in-game wiki command in the future to help learn:

“/wiki Unique”

It really works in-game, and is awesome.

On the flip-side, if you don’t care about Agony Resistance, you can infuse one of the rings and, with them now being different rings, wear them both.

There is no assuming happening. I’m very well aware that this variable exists. As stated above, the more we accommodate bad lag, the less of a challenge we are providing to those without it. That is a huge part of the reason we made easy mode.

Thank you for keeping this in mind, and please continue to keep it in mind. I have great latency, and I love a good challenge. I don’t want the entirety of SAB to be kiddie difficulty because a minority of players have poor connections or what-have-you. Infantile mode is perfect for them, and enables them to enjoy the content just as well as the next person. We players-who-seek-difficulty need more challenging content! Hard mode cannot come soon enough (I hope it is super rewarding, so it’s actually worth it to run HM).

Oh jeez. Well, you guys have fun in T2. This has been a really fun match-up and it’ll be unfortunate if that changes so sharply due to more transfers, but such is life. Good luck!

I must say that I have, for the past several weeks, been really pleased that CD and SBI have been mostly evenly matched in the face of first Maguuma and now SoS. Hopefully some of that will be retained if/when CD transfers cause you guys to drop to T5 and we get a replacement in the form of EBay (or maybe AR depending on how they do and many other things).

I think that’s sort of the goal of every boss in-game, though. In GW2, all melee damage is significantly higher than all ranged damage, and they said that it is for a reason. Rob himself has said that the greater dps output for melee characters is to reward melee play, which is inherently more challenging. The tradeoff for being at range is that it is easier to survive and you do less damage. They may change this in the future, but for now it seems consistent with what we have in-game.

Fractal Skins

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

The challenge is in the luck of the draw of group composition with pubs. Last night myself and 2 guildmates 3-manned the Dredge fractal. It was simultaneously a nightmare and amazing.

EDIT: I also want to say that even if you do a run with a group that never fails and crushes all events and bosses, the content is still ‘challenging’. It is worlds above the difficulty of anything else in the game, and even if you succeed, it requires you pay attention, plan your damage soaking / mitigation, and everything.

I have done such crazy things as 0 AR runs of L48 Grawl boss before for my own personal edification. Man those are fun.

Fractal Skins

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

So don’t do fractals! None of the skins are worth the pain of grinding something you hate. I have done more than a hundred 48 runs myself, and I would show off 100+ pristine relics if I didn’t use them all to gear my alts and things (I do the same thing with Fractal relics; all of my alts have capacitor ascended backpieces). I also have a bank slot of rings. Meanwhile, I’m a pretty poor fellow because I hate CoF 1 farming and don’t do it much; I enjoy the dungeon so I’ll do a 1-2 run every day or so, but no more.

Honestly, if I didn’t enjoy Fractals so much, I wouldn’t do it. Sure I cringe when I roll Dredge as the third fractal at 11PM at night, or when I get Cliffside and Dredge back-to-back, or when I get Mossman over Bloomhunger, but I enjoy it all the same. The challenge drives me, and so for me, getting a bunch of fractal skins was happenstance; I essentially don’t even try and it just happens.

My only recommendation if you insist on punishing yourself is never do anything other than a 40+ daily. Honestly, 20 and 30 dailies are garbage. I never saw a Fractal skin until I did 48 religiously, and the chance is so much higher at that point that it’s crazy. If you’re doing 20’s or 30’s you’re legitimately wasting your time.

Fractal Skins

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

As you will notice with the fun box forums, very little complaining. There is a reason for that…..

Yes, there is. You can either grind for them and get a skin guaranteed every couple hours, or you can grind CoF and buy a skin on the TP. Those skins have zero prestige associated with them; having one says absolutely nothing about you as a player. Having a Fractal skin, on the other hand, says quite a bit. I like my prestige, thank you very much. It’s half the reason the skins appeal to me in the first place.

Like I’ve said before, the only change I’d be okay with is if instead of getting a skin, you got a “Fractal Skin Token” that you can exchange for a skin of your choice. That way you still have to RNG hardcore and progress high for a good chance at the skins, but at least you get skins relevant to your profession because you can pick what you get.

No, what’s even more BS is when someone TOTALLY new to level 20 fractals gets the GS skin on his first try in Jade Maw. He had 10 AR, I had to carry him, yet he still got it. Good job Arena Net, look out for the noobs!

You mean like when some random player with less than 40 hours in-game loots a precursor from a mob? Yes, RNG is RNG, and sometimes it doesn’t favor you. Sucks, but that’s how it works; deal with it or move on.

Thank you for helping me make my point, which is to say, you’ve been rewarded for running the instance and I, along with many others have run the same content as you and have not. You think rng is working as intended because you’re getting skins as you said. I’m on the other side of the fence.

The RNG is working whether you get skins or not; that’s the point. The only reason you think it doesn’t is because you’re sour that you haven’t gotten anything. That’s the nature of RNG. Just because I haven’t looted a precursor doesn’t mean I feel that I should loot a precursor. I keep doing high end chests for the chance of it and because I enjoy the events in moderation, not with the expectation of getting something fancy out of it. That’s the difference in playstyle, and that’s what really matters. Don’t expect a skin, play what you want because you enjoy it, and if you get a skin, it’s awesome.

If you don’t enjoy Fractals, don’t play Fractals. It’s really that simple; the skins aren’t good enough to justify doing something you don’t enjoy. If you enjoy the challenge, like me, do a few hundred runs and you, too, will get skins. Seriously, I’ve done so many runs that my getting skins is virtually inevitable; the chances are not so bad, and if you play that many runs, you too will get them.

Leaderboards Have Been Released!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rising Dusk.2408

People who play more are more likely to have higher achievement point totals. People with higher achievement point totals are more likely to have more experience playing their classes and to understand the mechanics of the game. People who know the mechanics of the game and understand their classes are more likely to contribute positively to their group. I would much rather have someone with higher achievement points in my group than one with lower if only because it increases the chances that they are competent, but I’m not going to kick them for having lower achievement point totals.

That said, people will invent reasons to cull the crop and be elitists. It’s going to be your AR total, the quality of your gear, the item skins you use, the class you play, your achievement points, or whatever. Elitists will find a way to be elitist, and any negative meshing of that with these leaderboards is far outweighed by the benefits of giving people some venue for healthy competition.

Keep the leaderboard options coming, ANet!

Fractal Skins

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Rising Dusk.2408

Before they hard capped FotM dailies at 48, at 50-58 you were guaranteed a skin/ring every time, and at 60-68 you basically always got a skin. Fact of the matter is that no matter what you or I say, neither of us knows what the actual rates are. You could just be extremely unlucky, or maybe myself and everyone I run with is exceedingly lucky. It’s impossible for us to say, and thus it is irrelevant for us to try.

Regardless, I think that some people get skins that often and some people don’t is fine, and a feature of RNG, and that whatever it is now is “okay”. I don’t do 50 runs without getting something, and every single person I have ever run with (at least a couple hundred different players) has gotten skins from 48. That to me says that it’s okay without any knowledge of the drop rates. These things are supposed to be hard to get, and are supposed to be RNG to add to the incentive to keep repeatedly playing the content for more.

CoF is obscenely fast regardless of the group. My pockmark groups with engineers and rangers and necromancers run CoF 1 in 8 minutes, which is only marginally slower than a truly optimized group with mesmers, warriors, and thieves. The problem is that CoF is too easy, too fast, and too profitable. Yes, I said it, it’s too profitable. There is zero reason to run any other dungeon unless you’re desperate for the skins. Hell, it’s even faster to farm CoF and buy other exotic armor stat combinations on the TP than to farm the dungeons that drop tokens which give those stat combinations!

Considering that half of the mechanics of the Fractals aren’t even active in levels 1 to 9 and levels 10 to 19 are so easy that they can be beaten with 5 players who aren’t even max level, I definitely don’t think skins should drop that early.

Honestly, I think the % chances are fine, considering I get a skin every third run at 48 or so. What I want to see change is that you should definitely get a “Fractal Skin Token” that enables you to choose the item you want from a vendor (like the Fused Ticket) instead of having to RNG and risk getting repeats. I have so many Fractal Hammers I legitimately don’t know what to do with them.

A few issues with Achievement Leaderboards IMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

1) Pick a thread on the forums, any thread. There’s a 99% chance that there will be a half dozen responses complaining that they aren’t being handed X, Y or Z on a silver platter. This community is spoiled. If Anet were to even consider that it’s consumers should have to work for what they want, the community would summon a large fiery ball of angst and doom on the poor company.

That’s a bit melodramatic, and I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as you think. Forums are a minority of the population, and there are very few people on any game forum that are level-headed and middle-of-the-road. Most are very opinionated and are on the forums and posting specifically to complain about or laud the company. I would call this a non-issue; developers are trained to be thick-skinned to people crying.

2) The games MAJOR weakness right now is that it is incredibly lacking in achievable content. As it is, the gaps between ranks are less than the achievement points achieved by doing one daily… if dailies and monthlies were gotten rid of, or capped, the top 25 at least would have the exact same number of achievement points. What would be the point of having a leader board with a plateau like that? The only mode of competition we have right now is time invested, there isn’t any other way to get ahead.

I don’t disagree that the game lacks hard content to achieve, but that said, games typically have “100%” players who get every achievement. If players can get there, then more power to them, they have reached the maximum possible, and will be at the top of the leaderboard when they get there. That is an absurdly difficult task in GW2, mind, so this would likely never happen in half a decade. Because dailies and monthlies count, certain players are prevented from obtaining that 100%. Presumably, by the time anyone ever reaches the plateau you speak of, ANet will have other leaderboards with other statistics (perhaps fastest runs of certain Dungeon paths, or other things to achieve). Keep in mind that to reach that plateau would take years.

3) Dailies and monthlies give you way to much achievement point bang for your buck, compared to time and effort to invest into other achievements. (this has been fixed somewhat with the new dailies). But think about it, 30 mins of play gets you 5-9 points (depending on how many of the dailies you do). But killing 1000 giants, of which there exists like 3 enemies in the entire game that count toward this achievement only nets you 16 points.

Yes, and this is the one change that would need be made. If dailies and monthlies were worth nothing (and past points for them were removed), then the value of those other items becomes significantly higher.

Server leaderboards for WvW absolutely need the following information, and they need to update every 15 minutes in sync with the ticks.

  • Current PPT for each server in a tier
  • Current score for each server in a tier
  • Projected score at the end of the current week based on current scores
  • Projected placement at the end of the current week based on current scores

We also need a personal WvW scoreboard for the player ranks. That should be kept separate from the server leaderboards, however, but is equally important.

Builds for Fractals lvl 50+

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

So, let’s skip the introduction and get to the bottom of this: we aren’t the fotm class. And when I say fotm, I mean flavour of the month. No, not even close. Necro is OK, so and so, average. But definitely, people are not so happy to see you in high level Fractals.

I posted this on reddit, and I’ll repost it here. Learn to make yourself invaluable and use what makes the class special, and people will be shocked at just how great you can be. I surprise every pub I play with by how good a Necromancer can be in Fractals 48+. My friends and I have made my necromancer a staple in our L79 runs, although really, nothing changes at levels higher than L48 except that mobs become L84 and maw instakills you if you’re silly enough to do an even level. Everything else is the same.

“I play Fractals 48 every night on my Necro. I might not have a reflect, but the entire team gets spammed boons from my conversions and the enemies lose boons like Protect due to my conversions. I maintain permanent cripple on bosses like the Ettin and Archdiviner, along with Chill, giving team members room to breath. I can pop any number of skills to inflict huge lengths of spammed blind and reduce dps far more than a projectile reflect would in similar situations. I can pop an instant-cast interrupt and have saved teams before by doing so on a boss that would otherwise have killed a critical other member of the team. I can do all of this, and I can still out-tank Warriors that run with me when I need to.

The people I run with nightly have come to ask me to bring my Necro over my Guardian or Mesmer or Warrior because I speed things up. The fact that some players aren’t properly using their class does not mean that the class is bad or inferior, it just means that people aren’t giving it as much thought as it deserves."

I also followed up with another answer to someone else’s question:

“Rabid gear with 20 points in Death Magic so I can get both Greater Marks and Staff Mastery and 20 points in Blood Magic for Ritual Mastery makes for a very tanky condition damage build. All of this combined with DS makes for a build that is able to take hits as well as if not better than most other classes can. The best part is that the 20 points in Toughness and Toughness from Rabid armor translate to higher condition damage with Undead runes, so it isn’t hurting my dps any.”

Were Bounty Mission targets buffed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

This is a good one to (obviously) take condition removal/transfer/transmute skills to. The necro wells that change conditions to boons, Null Fields, even Arcane Thievery are all nice to take along for example. You can’t simply attack them to death. You need to use your utilities and think about how and when to use them.

Yes, those are obvious, and we used all of those. The problems are:

  • AOE limit of 5 means some people don’t get the benefits and thus get ravaged anyway
  • The confusion refreshes on attacking him or when he does anything to you, and factoring in the first point, it means you can’t possibly keep all conditions off of everyone

The problem with this bounty is that he is far easier with a smaller group than a bigger one. It would behoove you to not assume that any arbitrary issue with a boss is a L2 kitten ue; I can assure you that I and the people I play with are quite good at that. I genuinely feel that this target is overtuned, lacks appropriate tells, and lacks appropriate ways to mitigate damage against. (Seriously, you only have so many condition removals, and this boss also loves to cover his confusion with other conditions)

Any tips for Yanonka the Rat Wrangler

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rising Dusk.2408

Rising Dusk.2408

1. Can you identify which ‘suspicious rat’ is the boss before the bounty is started?
(from what we’ve seen, the rats can only be ‘attacked’ when the bounty timer is on, so I personally don’t think you can check which of the ~20? rats is the good one, aka. pre-scout)

You cannot pre-scout Yanonka or Big Mayana, no. You can currently pre-scout Sotzz, but he disappears after 1m so it’s not worth it. Anthony Orden has confirmed that he will make Sotzz like Yanonka for a future release.

2. If the boss kills the person who found it, does it always immediately disappear from that location?

The boss will ‘escape’ if it ‘resets’, which requires no enemies for it to target. This means if you die as the only player engaging it, she will reset and thus escape.

3. If above is true, do all the rats re-spawn randomly at that time?

The rats respawn as soon as she escapes.

4. If point 2 is true, is the bounty failed right there?

No. You can find her again and complete her, though you have now wasted precious time.

5. When the boss is activated, does it have a map-marker visible to everyone on that map, like other bounties do?

The map-marker only shows if you’re within some range of the bounty just like a normal dynamic event. It will not show up across the entire map. Use a commander tag to achieve this so you can rally your guild-mates to you (this is what I do).

That’s not true. This table has been true since agony came out. The only blatant agony-related change was the cap at 50+.

There is a bug sometimes where your AR won’t count; simply take off and reequip the item to get the bonus. Make sure your bonus is what it should be before every boss (can check in stat panel).

A few issues with Achievement Leaderboards IMO

The problem is that there are two schools of thought here and both have different views:

  • The leaderboard should measure how much time you’ve invested into the game.
  • The leaderboard should measure how good and what you have achieved in the time (regardless of how much) you have put into the game.

I’m, personally, in the second school of thought, though I see posters above me clearly favoring the first. I think capping the daily/monthly outputs would be stellar because it means I can focus on other challenges. The reality is, if I want to compete on the leaderboards, I must do the PvP/PvE dailies/monthlies every day/month forever, which is a drain of my time online and inhibits my ability to do other things I enjoy. This notion that I must invest time to compete is crazy for me, because I come from other competitive games where the only thing that matters is how well you do things and what you do, not how much of it you have done.

so someone explain to me how a guy that has 7 wins, 4 losses is ranked #49?

He beat other high ranked players and thus gained a lot of rating from those wins. It’s the same with any system of this nature.

Appreciated! We don’t require players be on SBI to be in the guild, though it certainly helps.

now your turn to solo it with your ranger ;p

Stuck on phase 3, having a really hard time escaping the bubble when it gets me. I’ll get there soon though!

You should buff the Ranger’s warhorn 5 to give the same boons as the Risen Hunter’s warhorn skill.

No matter what you do, you are way stronger at higher levels than at lower levels. I feel like a God walking amongst mere mortals when I run my L80’s through starter zones, 1- or 2- or 3-shotting anything that isn’t a veteran or higher, 8-hitting veterans, and soloing champions and group events like it’s my job.

All the while the zone is still enjoyable and I don’t ruin it for everyone else. Working as intended, in my opinion!

Also make sure you got the candle from world 1 zone 2, not zone 3. There’s a bug where the candle in zone 3 doesn’t progress this achievement.

This boss, along with Sotzz and the hylek in a tree, are nightmares because you cannot properly pre-scout them. If you find them, they respawn in such a short time period that it’s no good. The best advice I can give is to activate them as soon as you find them, inform your guild, and kite the boss until reinforcements arrive. Regardless, you’re likely to fail any T3 bounty including any of these three targets unless you get extraordinarily lucky.
