Actually, Rob did post somewhere in his history that he hated Spy Kits and Portal Guns and wanted them removed from dungeons. That made a pretty strong implication that they were not intended as part of dungeon design. Feel free to dive into his post history to find it.
Right, exactly. And eventually, the prices shall continue to rise until it becomes as profitable to farm the Dust, or CoF 1 is nerfed.
I’m not sure what you’re disagreeing with here.
That the price rising is inevitable given ANet’s non-intervention is not a point of contest between us; I agree with you that given the state of things, prices will just continue to balloon. My point is that such an inevitable rise is a problem that ANet should intervene and address. CoF 1 is its own issue, but I think that the changes to Orr too severely reduced the sustained supply of Crystalline Dust without ANet giving due consideration to how much it is used compared to other T6 materials. My argument is that the way things are now is unhealthy for the game, and that supply should be increased to compensate.
And prices will continue to rise, until suddenly, it becomes profitable to farm them!
By the way, there are methods to farm them. Farming events in Pent/Shelt in Cursed Shores drops a quite a generous amount. I get around 5-10 dust in about an hour.
As Jabberwork mentions above, the problem with that logic is that it’s more efficient to farm CoF 1 and buy the dust than to farm it. No matter how you cut it, you’re making more gold/hour in CoF 1 than farming and selling Crystalline Dust. Getting 5-10 per hour, even considering the other things you get from those events, is an inefficient use of your time. Because it’s more profitable to generate gold than to generate items, the price will rise as the value of gold deflates (this is a slow process, but it is happening so long as CoF 1 is unchanged).
If reflects is what it’s all about why don’t we at least love rangers for their whirling defense?
We do when they use it, even though it’s not nearly as good as skills like Feedback and Wall of Reflection and Smokescreen. More often than not, though, bad players playing Rangers simply spam Shortbow for hours on end.
If you think dust is too expensive, go farm it and sell it to people, heh.
Telling people to “go farm it” isn’t helping anything when the inability to appropriately farm it is exactly the reason the price has risen so high in the first place.
cough ancient karka chest cough
It’s better to expect the worst and be surprised than to use that one exception to boost your hopes only to be let down. That’s all I’ll say regarding that.
The game was supposed to allow 5 Engineers to be able to finish fractals. That was what we were sold, so there should be a way to do it.
There is a way to do FotM 48 with 5 Engineers without any consumable bar nourishments, you just need to be bloody good players to do it. The reason people take classes like Guardians and Mesmers in addition to their whatever class is because it makes everyone else’s job easier.
Forge Stones were on sale awhile back.
The criteria is medium population. People have already started transferring in mass, which has apparently spiked SF above the medium population threshold, thus disabling it from enjoying free transfers to it.
Quit it with the semantics. What is a “boss” or “not a boss” is not for either of you to decide; it’s ANet’s prerogative, and since they haven’t specified, no one should care.
Cue Trahearne: “Moving on.”
Yes, the Slave Driver utilizes quickness when he falls below 20% HP. Yes, his quickness was nerfed as well, so he benefits much less and loses a lot of burst when it activates.
Yeah, right. Considering I and many others have every achievement in this tab maxed out with less than 3 hours of lazy, auto-attack work invested, they definitely won’t be spitting out precursors for it.
It’d be nice if they spit out a Fused Weapon skin token, though.
I’d rather pay a monthly subscription fee and have things acquired by hard work rather than RNG as opposed to having to gamble my life away if I want to look cool.
Did you check your collectible bank tab in your bank? It’s possible to deposit Obsidian Shards, and as many as 250 of them can fit into there at once.
The gold cost in addition to the badges is completely absurd. WvW costs more money than it makes me on average between siege weapons and upgrades, and yet now we have to pay more gold to get goods from WvW instead of how it works in dungeons, where just the tokens themselves earn the items. WvW is not nearly as rewarding as running any dungeons, and the sinks involved in WvW completely undermine what money you do make. I still feel forced to go out and dungeon all the time in order to fund the war effort; even more so now if I want to gear up in WvW because it costs gold!
Seriously, just take the exact same token costs from dungeon tokens and put them on the WvW armor, but without the gold cost. 390 tokens straight up for a 2-handed weapon is perfect. Don’t charge us gold just because you can. And bloody hell, give us some actual skins of worth. This is such a let-down it’s mind-boggling; people want to feel rewarded for their time investment, even if at the core they’re playing because it’s fun.

The point of doing a training mission is the 3000 influence reward you get from doing them.
I believe it was actually 2-3 days ago.
News flash: BL keys were on sale for 20% off the other day. You must’ve missed it.
I was going to congratulate you, but then I saw that you were doing level 1 difficulty. Nice show anyway.
Why does it always seem to be that you get what you can’t use? I have 3 Fractal Hammers I’ll never use, and the guy above me has 6 Fractal Maces that I’d love one of! Argh! Just let us trade these 1-for-1 at some trader! Make them salvage to a “Fractal Skin Token” which we can throw at a merchant for a skin of our choice!
i think these threads are made only by those without GWAMMs. Too bad guys you quitted GW1 and went to play WoW.
I’m a multi-time GWAMM and I want to get rid of the forced title display as much as anyone else. It makes WvW a nightmare.
So they can introduce an option where you can see them all or cannot see them all. It’d be up to the player. The ability to turn them off is nigh-required in WvW, lest you get overwhelmed by the overwhelming amount of text.
There is no thinking involved. You get the chest knowing full well that it is RNG and that you have a slim to virtually nonexistent chance of getting what you want. This is several steps backwards, I agree. They had it right with Wintersday, and decided they needed to make several dozen thousand dollars, so they did this again. The fact that people spend money on it is why they took these steps backwards; by not spending your money on it you make a statement about the ridiculousness of the system they are currently implementing.
Buying $100 of keys and then complaining on the forums achieves the exact opposite of why you complained in the first place. Your money reminds them why they do it this way. It really boils down to what keeps ANet in business. This business model works, and I don’t blame ANet for needing to make money, I blame the consumer for not knowing full well what they were getting into before they clicked “Confirm” when they buy the keys.
Oh, you mean they fixed the texture glitch it had before that was confirmed ages ago? Good job, ANet!
Looks like they nerfed the last one challenging fight in the game. Grawl Shaman on 40+ lvl is piece of cake now
What? Was there a ninja nerf not listed in the notes? The notes suggest that all they did for that fight was change one of his icons…
The one fix they listed is to fix an issue where you could die repeatedly back-to-back when trying to save the captives (but failing) while the boss is a champion and not in imbued-mode.
You are the reason why ANet keeps adding stuff to the Black Lion Casino Chests. Stop spending so much money and you’ll make more of a point than complaining on the forums can.
Time to play some PvP for me!
I, for one, welcome a flaming axe skin that has particle effects and doesn’t look like complete garbage.
Now if only it weren’t only obtainable by RNGing my pay checks away…
I would sacrifice gold to the TP taxes to acquire Fused weapon skins, I would spend gems in the gem store if they were listed like Wintersday weapons, but I will not purchase keys for an RNG chance to acquire them. If I am spending my money on something, I’ll spend it on something I know I am getting.
If this is just another “all professions are viable in all content” thread then I probably won’t pursue this discussion further, but I will say the following. The reality is that all dungeon content in this game is mechanically very easy and being a good player counts for way more than playing a good class.
Rangers aren’t “bad”, they’re just not “as good”. That’s the real argument anyone ever makes when they say they’d prefer to not bring a Ranger. My guild can beat any PvE content in this game using any class composition without difficulty because the content is easy, but that doesn’t mean that certain classes aren’t inferior to others when they are. You must be mindful of the logical fallacy that’s easy to fall prey to there.
Crap, I really like those axes, but I refuse to gamble at the ANet casino. Either let me buy them with gems like the Wintersday skins or let me buy them on the TP, ANet!
Haha, the Asura’s name is Moto. I wonder if that’s a nudge at Shigeru Miyamoto.
They should implement a “-1” button for threads like these.
It takes two months at least to make 14 icons and put stats on items and then, my God, add them to the vendor. Jeez, what were you guys thinking that they’d come out with this patch?!
I support this. The titles really clutter the screen.
Cof runs will now be 2 minutes long with banners… I love my warrior but in no way, shape or form did they need a buff of any kind… ridiculous…
Time Warp and Frenzy were nerfed hard. The net result of this patch was a Warrior nerf, not buff.
Hey all! Just wanted to clarify something for you: racial armors will not be available through WvW. We’ve contacted MMORPG.com so they can correct that information.
Thanks, and sorry for the confusion!
That’s a shame. I was actually going to spend my 10k badges when I heard about racial skins being available, but now I guess they’ll just rot for another half a year. Of course, none of this would be a problem if WvW were as rewarding of gold as PvE content.

This is an absolute farce. I am simply blown away that people are allowed to make 6-7g/hr in CoF 1 (before ecto salvages are taken into account) and nothing has been done about it. Maybe quickness changes will reduce that by a marginal amount, but the path is so stupidly easy and can be pugged with Necromancers and Rangers in 8 minutes per run. You can still make bank, and will still make more doing this than anything else in-game. You’re all concerned that adding rares to the market will shock your economy? How about you look at how prices of items constantly rise (bar other market shocks) in the face of “Oh, I’ll just farm CoF 1 a bit more to compensate”. The problems have been spelled out so many times it’s insane:
- There’s little reason bar skins to run any other dungeon
- Fractals loot is abysmal for the time investment compared to farming world events or farming CoF 1
- Whole month went by and no dungeon update like AC received
I love dungeons, and I love this game and think ANet does a pretty good job overall, but the inconsistency and complete disregard for real problems in any real time frame is unbelievable. I farm CoF every night because there is nothing else in this game worth my time, and I hate it with an undying passion. It’s not fun, it’s not enjoyable, and it shouldn’t be allowed by any rights. The only thing it is is efficient, and that’s why if I only have a few hours on every night, they get spent in CoF. I think the only good solution here is a simultaneous nerf of CoF and a buff to other dungeon rewards. Rob, you said months ago that you recognized that many dungeons weren’t rewarding compared to faster dungeons, and yet nothing has happened in a quarter of a year since those discussions.
This needed to be addressed three months ago, and yet it is still going on, and apparently still will be going on for another month.
Maybe you forgot, OP, but Thieves are stellar for their smokescreen projectile block, particularly in the areas you mentioned. You had not two (the normal), but three projectile stopping members of your team; that’s a stellar composition for FotM 40+ if everyone is a good player.
Try this dungeon with only Warriors, Rangers, Necromancers, and Engineers and no Mesmers, Guardians, Thieves, or Elementalists. You’ll see just how painful certain team compositions can be, regardless of player skill.
Ah yes, the two-day spam control thing. I really wonder what causes that. Anyway, we’ve been in touch, and are glad to have you aboard.
If anyone else is looking for a guild, give the OP a read and see what you think! We accept cross-server players, though we strongly encourage players to be on SBI because it reinforces the guild feeling (can see what people are doing) and makes you feel more like a member of the crew because you can do things like world events with us and so on. It helps!
Anyway, give us a shout-out!
This is really all silly.
Vol, I appreciate your point of view in many threads, but I implore you to read my previous two posts and consider that as a viable way to make playing in PvE more valuable and more in-line with the TP in terms of value for time investment. The key problem right now, I feel, is that there is a severe lack of suppliers to the economy because items have such low drop rates and there’s no reliability. Remember GW1 how you were guaranteed ecto and shards from the end chests of UW/FoW, respectively? That sort of thing is what is needed in GW2, just with cores/lodestones/rares and dungeon/fractals chests.
Increasing the value of the supplier role will encourage a lot of people to branch out, make PvE feel more rewarding without breaking the economy, and enable people to feel like they can make progress towards a goal by playing the game rather than playing the RNG. That is why it’s so valuable to us.
It’s also important to note, Ursan, that making gold on the TP doesn’t create gold out of thin air like earning gold in PvE (it transfers from player X to player Y). That is part of why I chose a path that creates items in PvE, which don’t add gold to the economy (and these items still get removed from the economy by the Mystic Forge and other recipes). This is important so that we avoid inflation; we don’t want to explode the amount of gold/hour that a player can make in PvE continually to try to match the TP gold earnings, because that will blow up and not get us anywhere balanced.
Lastly, ANet can always add new carrots to chase down the line if they want to keep the demand for these materials up. Regardless of that, however, getting these items needs to be more reliable than it is so that people can actually make progress. Players should not embrace the philosophy that it is better to farm gold/TP for gold and buy the materials than to get the materials directly. One of the roles this economy currently severely lacks is suppliers to the economy, and as of now it has far too many marketeers because that is simply more profitable.
Give this a read, it might seriously help!
If you’re looking for primarily WvW, then let me recommend [KT]. You can talk to Glamarus in-game, and he will talk you through the guild and all of their nuances. They are a super chill guild that I am an ally with, and strongly recommend them for SBI WvW.
If you are interested in dungeons, PvE, and guild missions along with minor WvW, you might consider my guild, [VZ]. We’re a medium-sized PvX guild on SBI that is focused on being largely casual, but lots of fun. Your OP makes you sound like more of a WvW player, though, so I’m not sure which you’d prefer more. Feel free to read more about VZ at the link in my signature, but also give KT some consideration if that’s your thing. Either way, feel free to contact me in-game or on the forums if you want to know more!
Good luck finding what you’re looking for, and hopefully you don’t leave SBI! We need people now more than ever!
Tyler, what about the runes that say “+20% Frozen Duration” when they actually increase the duration of Chill?
Bank vault, unfortunately, cannot hold account or soulbound items.
The only way to do that I can think of is to do the following:
- Make high-end PvE (Dungeons / Fractals) reliably drop high-value items that can be sold on the TP for profit
- Increase the value of farming items, not gold, by increasing the general drop rate of those items
- Fix the farming spot that is CoF 1 so that players are encouraged to branch out and earn items which can be sold for gold rather than earning gold en masse.
This essentially amounts to an increase in supply for certain items, which decreases their value (potentially), but there’s more to it than that. Remember that the time a player has online can only be used one way, so he could be farming something else for 6-7 g/hr, or he could be farming items which have value. This competition will keep the value of items competitive as well.
My idea for the solution to the requirements listed above is:
- Add a guaranteed core to the reward chest (the one with tokens) at the end of every path of a dungeon except CM and AC
- Add guaranteed rares to the Fractal chests that includes more rares for higher levels and fewer / no guaranteed rares for much lower levels
- Add 1 guaranteed rare to the end reward chest (the one with tokens) as a FIRST-TIME-PER-DAY BONUS ONLY (you’d only get the rare on the same run you got 60 tokens)
- Significantly increase the supply of T6 Dust from drops across the world, because its value determines so many things (like the value of other T6 mats and cores).
- Make CoF 1 significantly harder to farm (ie. by making players clear the bridge event)
These changes would significantly improve the ability for people to feel able to make progress both towards legendaries but also towards just making money in PvE. There is really nothing that can be done when people succeed massively at speculating on the TP, but I don’t think anything should be done there. The focus should be on improving PvE rewards so that people feel actually rewarded doing tough content. The world bosses should not be the only things that give out guaranteed rares when those events are worlds easier than most dungeons and especially Fractals. Even CoF 1 currently requires more brainpower than the world boss events, which really says something.

We don’t know anything about her character. Her attitude, acting, and dialogue will determine her character, not the way she looks. We are talking strictly about the way her eyes looks here, which at the moment is very un-charrlike. Proportions is an important aesthetic component of beauty, and has been studied and categorized thoroughly by people far more knowledgeable in the topics than any poster here (myself included). At the moment, her face has some serious problems with its proportions (due to her eyes).
Martin, I appreciate your clarification, but I think the real question people have that is causing confusion is thus:
- Is the special item from a given boss, like Final Rest from SB or Eternal Ice from Maw, only available in the loot table for the guaranteed rare (or better)? Or is it also available in the loot table for the other items that come from the chest as well?
You’d be surprised how easy it is to specialize, though! My guardian uses a build that is specifically tailored for support, but has abysmal DPS. That said, because of me, my team has significantly improved DPS as a whole thanks to my might stacks, and my team survives much better against overwhelming odds thanks to my boons. Similarly, my Warrior has incredible DPS, and many times on that character I can get in an enemy’s face and beat them up for 20k+ damage in mere seconds, but I definitely can’t survive a lot of attacks back at me. So to sum it up, yes, anyone on your team and any class can bring all of the things that a team needs, but you can also choose to specialize and be good at any one of them over the others. You’d be surprised how legitimate a healer an Elementalist can be, for instance!
I just did this story step last night and it worked fine. I couldn’t find a way to break it either. Just stand around the entrance when Hekja scouts the manse, kill the enemies when they charge, and otherwise it will progress as normal.
