The game would be much better served if people updated the wiki with this sort of thing rather than putting them on their personal websites.

No events change mechanics after level 10, they just get harder by spawning more enemies at higher levels.

Robert, it’s the fact that if I want two spider pets that have a stun, I have to have the Black Widow. If I want two ravens, I have to have the White Raven. If I want two Moas with a stun, I have to have the Black Moa.

These are in-game skill choices that are not available without having the HoM pets. It’s similar to saying someone can’t have a particular weapon as part of their second weapon set because they didn’t have enough HoM points. A Ranger without the Black Widow has only the Jungle Spider for a stun on F2. One with the Black Widow can use Jungle Spider to stun on F2 and then swap out to Black Widow to have another Spider pet with a stun on F2.

This is the in-game advantage from HoM that I was asking about.

Is this acknowledged as an issue?

This is not true. The F2 skills they use (the HoM pets and the normal ones) share cooldowns, so you are actually at a disadvantage if you bring both types because you have only 1 F2 cooldown between two pets.

Hi everyone:

I’ve thought about this a bit, and I think this would be a great opportunity for lots of players. Many players don’t think they’ll ever get guild commendations (and thus ascended accessories) because they are in a small guild with a close-knit group of friends, and they don’t want to be a part of a massive meat-grinder guild where no one knows each other. Well, my guild is pretty medium-sized, and is the same way. We want to be friends with the people in our guild, but we also want to get those shiny accessories!

So my guild, VZ, worked and toiled and bought influence, and finally we have guild bounties unlocked and ready to go. We might be able to succeed on our own, but I wanted to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to any other small guilds/groups who would like to help us on our guild bounties with no strings attached.

Here’s the idea:
- Other small guilds/groups/single players can join VZ only for purposes of the guild bounties
- You’d only need to represent during the bounty (so you get credit and rewards), but wouldn’t have to any other time
- You get the rewards, and get to keep your small groups intact by taking advantage of the multiple guild system!
- If you wanted to represent at any time otherwise to help with influence so we can unlock more guild missions down the road for the community, you’d be more than welcome to (We’d be happy to have you!)

Here’s what VZ is like:
- NA Stormbluff Isle Server (You’d need to guest here for the event)
- Guild Bounties unlocked (all tiers)
- You can see the link in my signature if you want more thorough details

Here’s when the first event is taking place:
- 9 PM Wednesday EST (GMT-4)
- We will also be doing events on Saturdays

I totally agree.

I run fractals 48 every bloody night, and in the time it takes to run the whole thing painstakingly, I could have gotten ten times the gold earned from rares in world boss chests or farming CoF. There is zero incentive to run these things besides the fractal skins, and oh wait, when I do get a fractal skin, it’s nothing I can use for my class and therefore completely useless. Let’s say I get an exotic from a chest, awesome—but wait, it’s account bound and if not usable by one of my classes with the random stats it has, totally worthless. There are serious problems here.

A) There should be a guaranteed rare from every 40+ fractals chest

Period. No questions asked. The chance, in my opinion, should be something like 10% at levels 1 and scale up to 100% by level 50. If, eventually, higher levels than 50 are unlocked by ANet, it should scale up past that to something like 2 guaranteed rares per chest. The exact percents are malleable, but the point is that we need to be able to be bloody rewarded for accomplishing what ANet considers the most difficult content in-game.

B) Normal, non-account bound exotics should drop from fractals chests too

I don’t really mind the account bound exotics because they use karma skins, which can sometimes be neat… I guess. I do mind it when they sit in my bank useless because no one can use them. What should happen is that these karma skin exotics should stay, but we should also be able to loot normal exotics too.

C) While we’re at it, let us trade fractal weapon skins in for other skins

I have like, 6 Fractal Hammers. I wish I could give them away, or do anything useful with them. It’d also be nice if I could actually get something that my class could use, like a Scepter, Staff, Focus, Dagger, Trident, or Spear. We should be able to salvage these fractal skins for a special kind of relic that can be traded back to the vendor in the hub for another fractal skin. This way we actually get bloody rewarded for our work, instead of farming up a bunch of useless skins that do nothing other than waste bank space and time acquiring.

If ANet would fix any of these three major problems, that’d be great. Of course, you could encourage people to actually play Fractals again by fixing all three.

The trading post is the best place. Besides that, there are always 2 orichalcum nodes in the Eternal Battlegrounds jumping puzzle somewhere. Those are the only nodes in all of WvW for orichalcum.

Their actions support my interpretation of his statement, however. Remember when they made Powerful Blood and Elaborate Totems drop in values of 1-2 from bags instead of just 1? That was a direct and deliberate choice made by ANet (and by extension, John’s team) to increase the supply for those T6 materials. My only argument is that Crystalline Dust desperately needs the same treatment due to the way it affects other markets, and also due to the number needed for so many other things in-game. It’s supply needs to increase after Orr’s changing severely decreased it.

John has said before that he watches these markets all of the time to make sure they are where they should be, whatever that is.

People use the traps already, but PvP in the jump puzzle is incredibly satisfying both as a defender or as an attacker. It would be totally out of line to disable being able to damage enemies with your own skills inside the JP and force players to use traps alone. May as well take it out of WvW and take the badges and siege out of it at that point, if you ask me.

You post as if dying in the J kitten omething that should only happen if you’re careless, and I totally disagree with that. The JP is a resource like any other in WvW, one that pumps siege and badges to whoever owns it at any given time. There is no reason for people from opposing servers to ‘get along’ and let each other reap the rewards. I’m not being ‘mean’ and I’m not being ‘cruel’ when I target uplevels or single invaders in the JPs, I am defending a resource from enemy control and use. Being able to siege it made it virtually impossible for groups of even superior size and skill to overtake campers, but with that removed, skill goes a long way and superior numbers can go a long way too. I don’t think any further changes need to be made to the JPs in that regard.

To be honest, you don’t have to be in the same server to do dungeons/fractals, only the same realm (EU or NA). Since you’re on NA, you could run fractals / dungeons with us in [VZ] on SBI. You could also guest over to SBI and participate in the guild missions at your leisure, which is a cool bonus (and would help you get ascended gear for FotM!).

VZ is about 55-60 players, and we’re mostly a tight-knit community. I am personally level 49 in Fractals and run it about every night if possible. We have a few others around that level in the guild too, always looking for more. I’m not sure how high you are, but it’s a possibility you’re looking for top-line stuff. We also have numerous dungeon masters in-guild, and we do pretty much any dungeon anyone wants at any given time because why not. We also do other random things whenever and wherever, we have a TS if you’re interested in that, and so on and so forth. You can see all of the details if you’re interested by checking out the link in my signature.

Anyway, if that sounds decent at all to you, consider hitting me up either in-game or on the forums and I’d be happy to talk it over with you further. Regardless, good luck finding a guild that suits you.

I just wanted to post that this is a pretty inspiring tale, as corny as that may sound. I hope that you find exactly what you’re looking for in a guild, wherever that may take you.

Well, I want to be the first to actually answer your question…

Yes, those guilds do exist. The question you need to ask yourself is whether you want to be in a closer knit community that does them with regular groups, or a massive community that does them with whoever is active at any given time, and where you cannot guarantee the success because well, you don’t actually know the people at all. You also really shouldn’t be averse to finding pubs here and again, so long as at least a few guildies are there. Sometimes it’s unreasonable to expect a full guild group at all times of the day.

I much prefer the former, though, and it’s why I’ve built [VZ], my guild, around that premise. We’re a medium-sized group of around 55-65 who run dungeons, but also help out newer players and do other guild-driven content like guild missions and the like. I’m not sure if your post is actually looking for a guild or not, but maybe you are, and if so, I think many good dungeon runners would find a good home in VZ (the more the merrier!). We’re on the Stormbluff Isle server, but you wouldn’t have to transfer if you don’t want to because you can do dungeons cross-server easily. Anyway, even if you are just looking for some solid friends to run dungeons with, let me know in-game, in the thread linked in my signature, by PM, or whatever. I’d be happy to bring you along and show you some good runs.

That is a really impressive opening post, Invictus. Any guild would be enthralled to have a member with both those credentials and those desires in their guild, mine included. I want to preface this by saying that whatever happens, and whichever guild you end up with, I hope you find what you are looking for.

That said, I wouldn’t be posting here if I didn’t think there’d be a lot to gain mutually from you checking out [VZ]. We are a 55-60 member guild on the Stormbluff Isle server (you wouldn’t be required to change servers, and can do all content with us unless you wanted to WvW with us), and while we’re not massive, we’re very mature and very dedicated players always looking for more. We do all end-game content all the time (I personally run fractals and any dungeon others are interested in every night), and we’ll be working on organizing more thorough content such as guild missions starting this week and each week thereafter. I was in the same boat as you, leading a guild on GW1 for seven years, and I am carrying this over to GW2, but yeah, as you know, it’s tough. Having more proactive and helpful players around, especially those willing to take initiative, would be stellar and help us grow even further. I think you’d be a great fit for that, and you’d enjoy our community. We have a TS, but I don’t require people use it. Currently only myself and a few others do, but I’m trying to encourage more and more participation as time goes on, and who knows? Maybe it’ll really kick off; I hope so.

Either way, we do all end-game content and WvW frequently. We’re also doing guild missions now, and so that’ll be a good point to group up on. You might say we’re fairly casual and not super hardcore, but that we do hardcore content like many of the bigger guilds, just as a more medium-sized group. The core market also crashed heavily because of the increase in the price of dust. In my opinion, this is the one market ANet needs to increase supply for significantly. Recently, it suffered a heavy loss from the Orr changes, and also a double-whammy from the Triforge Amulet being made easy-to-upgrade to Ascended. This has detrimentally impacted Maintenance Oils, Sharpening Stones, Cores, upgrading other T5 materials, and everything else that uses dust.

I hope John looks at this and, despite that he cannot confirm or deny a change, takes it into serious consideration.

Flipside.4152:

Giganticus lupicus bar none. He is probably the only boss that you need to prepare for. He is tough but the feeling after you down this big guy is the best.

This. GL is the epitome of boss design in this game, as he is threatening, and even when you’re a pro group, you need to be aware and paying attention. Furthermore, you don’t want to afk him; he is fun, engaging, and exciting even when you’ve done him hundreds of times like I have. He is exactly what every boss should strive to be like, and he is exactly what ANet needs to make more of in this game.

FotM 1-9 exist for players who want to enjoy the content without the gating Agony creates. They also serve as a stepping stone that new players must get through to reach the good rewards, forcing them to learn the encounters and coordinate better than your average player.

I think the rewards are fine because they do exactly what they were intended to do: they encourage you to rise in levels. I run Fractals level 48 every night, once a night. I get 14 relics per fractal, 60 from Maw’s level, and a bonus 40 for my daily. That’s 142 relics per run, which is a metric boatload. As a result of a few weeks of work at this doing one run a night, I have ascended backpieces on three of my alts, and enough relics to do it again for another alt.

I also have 50 something pristine relics. Once you get to a high enough level, you will loot rings enough that you will probably not even need to buy them. This all encourages you to rise in levels, which is the design reason for fractals at all: progression encouragement. I get basically an infused ring every night (or a fractal skin), and I have so many pristine relics I can basically not even spend them anymore. Note that this is all with less than 2 hours of time investment a night, usually more like 90 minutes.

I don’t disagree that the fractals should be better balanced. Dredge takes forever, and cliffside is long but easy. The asuran fractal is on the longer side too, but also fairly easy. Regardless, I do most fractals in less than 15m apiece with few exceptions like Dredge and Cliffside. I think these longer fractals should be refactored to move quicker and not be such a drag. That said, most of your suggestions would really serve to remove the entire point to progressing in fractals. You do not need AR to progress up to level 18. I didn’t have any AR until level 28 of Fractals myself, so don’t worry too much. Play well and you will do fine.

Also, I do not support doing 2 fractals now and 1 later. People would just abuse this to roll the water fractal or swamp fractal repeatedly and never have to do any of the other ones. That is not healthy and should not be supported.

tl;dr: Fractals encourages progression, and as you progress, you will find yourself being rewarded more and more. Eventually, when you get to be really successful, you will find the costs for everything more than reasonable. It actually gets to a point where you run out of things to buy with relics quicker than you might expect.

It’s been a lot of fun this week, and it’s a totally different pace from our last match-up. I’ve been primarily taking the backseat and assisting other groups as other commanders have wanted to step up, which is really good to see. It’s important that there are constantly people trying to learn and improve. In some sense, I think SBI is actually growing from having fallen and come back up, and that’s great. The numbers we’re encountering are consistently much higher all around, and that coupled with a great grasp of strategy has made this a difficult match-up, and very fun.

Looking forward to more over the course of the week, and maybe at some point I’ll find the time to show up to a fight club again.

Hey there. I was browsing and reading, and came upon your post, and I think [VZ] would be a good fit for you. We’re a 45-55 player guild on SBI, and while we’re mostly casual, we have a dedicated group of players who do end-game content at the highest possible level. I’m also a WvW commander who runs a few times a week, time permitting. We have a few players at the higher levels of fractals (I’m level 49, and another is 64), and whenever anyone wants to, we run other dungeons as well and have a fair number of dungeon masters.

We’re casual, which is what makes this easy. There are no fixed schedules, requirements, websites you must visit and post on, or whatever. That seems like it should fit your style well given the tone of your post. Lastly, I wish you the best of luck finding what you’re looking for in a guild. It’s one of the most important parts of the GW2 experience.

You should roll an alt that isn’t a Guardian, Mesmer, Elementalist, or Thief. (Yes, even the Warrior has problems if you have tried to use one in PvP!) You’ll see that Rangers definitely aren’t the only ones with issues, and I think all of the profession forums could do for some info that they aren’t the only ones suffering.

I buy a bajillion siege blueprints, but otherwise they’re useless. It’d be nice if they were given some value somehow. Maybe some “WvW rank points” and like a stack of badges per ascended item. I think that’d be a fair middle ground.

This is cool and big of you to come to terms with as a guild. I couldn’t imagine leaving behind my tag and the reputation its earned to merge with another guild; it takes a lot of guts to stand up and say that. I hope you guys find the guild merger you’re looking for.

In the meantime (and as a possible alternative), I wanted to let you know that you can just have your guild members join another guild, represent them, and take advantage of guild missions and get the rewards from them that way. Then, you can either work your own guild up, or merge with them if you want to, but you wouldn’t have to give up your own group / guild.

My guild, [VZ], will have guild missions unlocked in a few days (we’re medium sized so we have the influence to research the stuff, it just takes time is all), and if you wanted to have your guild members tag along to help out and get the rewards, I wouldn’t be averse to that at all. The patch the other night fixed guild rewards for guesting, too, so you wouldn’t have to leave BG if you didn’t want to. Feel free to PM me in-game if that sounds good or if you want to know more.

I may be a WvW commander for SBI, but I think you’d be a good fit for [VZ] based on the maturity of your post and the type of content and guild you are looking for. As a preface, you wouldn’t be required to change servers and could run with us for as long as you like from FC, though eventually if you wanted to run WvW with us you’d probably want to switch. That’d be entirely up to you, though, because we do lots of PvE content too. (Guild missions in a few days, so excited!!)

Anyway, we’re a guild of about 45-55 players who are looking primarily for friends and people willing to chat and get to know us. We do hardcore PvE content (I, myself, do the level 40 tier of fractals regularly), and have lots of dungeon masters with great mastery over the PvE content of the game. I am a lot like you in that regard; when I do anything, I want to be the best I can be at it. I’d like to think we’ve achieved that as a guild, and are always looking for more like-minded individuals. We also run WvW a lot, and I am personally one of the known commanders on our server, so if you ever did want to transfer, I’d love to run with you. Hopefully my post here is an indicator, but we’re a mature group of players, though I must say that we like to joke around from time to time!

Anyway, despite the fact that my guild, [VZ]‘s server, SBI, is just getting out of combat with DR in WvW, I think you’d be a good fit. In case you’re not interested in my post, or want a tl;dr, the link to [VZ] recruitment post is in my signature. Either way, I’ll cover it here as well. We are a 45-55 member guild with a tight-knit regularly active group that’s on every day during primetime NA (7PM – 1AM EST), but also active during other hours to a lesser extent. I work a full time job, so that’s mostly why I can’t personally be on much else during the day. That said, we are three days away from guild missions (and counting!), and we have multiple skilled and mature players in the guild capable of all sorts of end-game content. I am personally level 49 in FotM, and we have a level 64 in the guild, and we run L40 tier for fractal skins whenever there’s interest. As you might surmise from my signature, I am an active and known commander on the SBI server, so if you ever wanted to give WvW a try, you’d be more than welcome to follow me any time. If you wanted to join the guild but not transfer right away, that’d be fine and you could do all of the PvE content no problem, you just couldn’t run with us in WvW. That’d be up to you to decide if you wanted to do or not. We also run around and do other stuff frequently, such as achievement hunt, world bosses, and the like. If you’re low level, that’s no problem, and we’d be happy to help you acclimate to the game as you level up and gear up for end-game content. You could also take advantage of our guild benefits to help you do so.

Anyway, you made a big point about wanting a mature guild. I can say with certainty that we are a mature guild, though we do joke around and tease each other sarcastically, and I can’t type with perfect punctuation all of the time if I’m running around WvW or the like. Hey, actually, I definitely think you guys would fit perfectly in [VZ]. You can see the guild’s recruitment post in my signature, but I’ll type out here why I think you’d be a perfect match. Firstly, VZ is on SBI already, which is cheaper on your gem pockets, but secondly, we’re mere days from getting guild bounties, are a tight knit medium-sized guild of friends who play regularly, and I am a consistent and known commander on the SBI WvW scene, so you can bet your britches that we WvW a lot. We’re particularly looking for people who aren’t shy to talk in guild chat, who are friendly looking for friends, but also people who are capable and interested in end-game content either when they level up or right now if they’re already there. I am personally level 49 in Fractals of the Mists, we have a level 64 in the guild, and we enjoy running the L40 tier for fractal skins when we can. We also run every other dungeon in the game when people want to, and we run around in random zones sometimes having fun (we did the Hydra Queen event chain for the achievement as a guild the other day).

We play mostly in EST, but we have a fair number of PSTers (being PST actually means you’ll be better off since I play to like 2AM every night..), and honestly, your post suggests that you’re extremely mature and a perfect match. I was legitimately excited reading your post and simultaneously finding that you are level 80, geared, and on SBI. I’d be honored to have you in my guild.

I don’t really post much but I feel this is worth saying.

I have only the highest respect for IOJ and DR and I think the majority of SBI’s core players do as well. The match up in this tier has had some of the strongest and most challenging battles I’ve personally been a part of through my entire history with SBI (been around since day 1).

It should be remembered that in the first week we dropped into this tier that the battles were pitched and evenly matched and in the end the servers had (if I remember correctly) mostly even scores with maybe ~20k variance between 1st and 2nd compared to the usual 100-200k blow outs you see first place servers have in any tier.

Sadly, from there the gap has only grown due to the ‘fairweather’ players fleeing the battlefields on IOJ and DR’s side while our own have come back to bolster the numbers once more. Of that, there’s already been lengthy discourses about and not much more need be said.

World scores do not give justice to the intensity of the battles and constant surprises that I have found SBI being faced with at all hours of the day. DR and IOJ have never given up and that is what counts above anything else. All I can say is keep at it and I wish DR and IOJ all the best in their next match ups.

Stealth is one thing, but Stability in its current form is perfectly fine.
- Stability has low upkeep time even with immense boon duration boosts
- Stability only prevents CC, doesn’t mitigate or hide damage at all
- Stability does not prevent Immobilize

I think Stability is fine, both having used it and having it used against me.

So everyone finished their February monthly and they were then greeted with a joke-town March monthly. As a result, Mystic Coin prices are crashing really fast. What are we expecting them to bottom out at and do we think the prices will rebound? Have laurels made more people do their monthlies/dailies and thus Mystic Coins will never reach 15s again? Looking for some thoughts on this, as the market here is interesting to say the least.

I personally think that they’ll drop to 3-4s, and will crash even further if April’s monthly is as easy as this month’s. It’d be nice if they rebound, though, so I could make some money off the ton I bought at 6.5s each, haha.

Honestly why pretend for the sake of pretending? The T5 threads with EB were also friendly and calm. What do you think changed, our perception of the match up (now with SBI in it), or our perception of what should or should not be in a match up thread?

You cannot expect people to treat each other in a certain way for no other reason than that you say so.

I’m not sure I understand. Who is pretending what? I certainly am not. If EB was a great thread for you guys, then that’s really cool, and I hope you find that for your next match-up. I specifically wanted not to call out anyone, because certain SBI members have been less than savory all the same in this thread; it takes two to tango and all that.

Regardless, it’s not because “I say so” that it should happen. It should happen because everyone enjoys the match-up more that way, including those people who might otherwise complain. There is literally no downside to at least being respectful to one-another on the forums.

Attic, I recognize that oftentimes people cannot deal with stress and resort to lashing out at others, but that is something that can be tempered. These sorts of threads can be quite exceptional; I distinctly remember how much fun the T4 thread was when we were losing against YB and CD. Sure we were outmanned, and sure people complained about it, but the general flow of the thread was positive, and everyone walked out of the match-up treating the others with respect. That is what these threads should be about.

I’ve tried to be cordial during this match-up, and it saddens me that so many players and commanders have taken it upon themselves to brag, mistreat others, and create an atmosphere of animosity between all three of the servers. It is completely unnecessary, and worsens the experience for both the other servers and your own. I’m not calling anyone specific out, but you all know who you are.

Last night I led the EB force for some good times, and before I left with my group to go to IoJ’s BL, we had painted the whole of EB green. While at IoJ’s BL, we encountered a large group of DR which had no uplevels and all of which played together exceedingly well. We also kept harassing IoJ’s garrison just for our own personal edification; we almost had it! You guys had it well defended and well sieged, though, so I ended up pulling out to focus my attention elsewhere. The last thing I did for the night was to take Bay back from DR with the talented DR zerg defending it. I had to talk so much to my group to keep them from overextending and rallying you guys, it was intense. Eventually, we kept your group distracted for long enough to push into the lord’s room. Then, in a final battle the likes of which I can only compare to a boss battle, your no-uplevel zerg crashed into the Lord’s room and attacked us while we were there. We outnumbered you, but in all honesty, we had so many uplevels it felt like a fair fight. Eventually, we pushed you back and secured Bay. It was a great fight, and felt good. That’s the sort of thing I really enjoy in WvW, and it is those fights I will try to remember when we move on to T4, not the toxic animosity visible in this thread.

I won this match-up last night in WvW as the Ranger, actually. It was a really good duel.

He feedbacked me during my LB 2, but I canceled it and dodged out of it at the same time. Also, he had gotten 2 iZerkers up at one point, but I took the time to assign my pet to kill one while I swapped to SB and killed the other. It was a very intense fight, and I nearly lost twice, but I pulled out ahead with a few good crits and CCs (Wolf fear was really what got him in the end; I interrupted his heal with it). I cannot say that we were the same skill level, but from fighting him I definitely got the feeling that I was fighting a talented opponent, and he earned a /bow from me after I stomped him.

My main weap, however, was not the LB, it was the SB. The LB was my weapon switch for 2 through 5, and not for its 1. The Mesmer was GS / Sword + Focus. I can’t say for sure what his spec was, but he wasn’t shattering and was using mantras, so my assertion is that he probably closely fit the bill of the OP’s statement.

A bug I’ve encountered as well, and very frustrating. Let’s get it fixed for the WvW March update!

Apparently they’re working on a doozy right now. Don’t remember what forum the posts were in though… but it was exciting news

They released it, too, just no one can do it yet. The two Guild Puzzles are supposed to be the hardest puzzles in the game.
