Yes, there are player-gained boosts like +5% experience gained from kills, +10% magic find for better loot, banners, and other things like that. Most of all, guild members can help you in tougher content, which makes your life way easier.
I feel important every single time I do a run of anything because I know I am contributing significantly to my team and the team would fail without me. The roles may be blurred in GW2, and that may mean that everyone has to take on the greater task of managing themselves, but the game is far from selfish in its combat. You’re not only looking out for #1. I love knowing that I am traited or runed to res people fast and keep us both alive. They made a mistake, and I saved us from a wipe by being able to drop some spell and get them back up. I love knowing that my being able to cripple and immobilize and otherwise lockdown a very powerful melee boss just saved some member of my team who got nicked and downed just outside of that boss’s range. I love throwing down a wall that blocks or reflects projectiles just before an attack strikes the team that would’ve downed half of them. I love wearing down defiant stacks on bosses and interrupting their key skill, knowing that if I had missed, the boss would’ve downed or killed someone in my group. I love healing allies and myself more than they think is possible in the game, and saving a group’s life because I give everyone so much sustainability that we can handle more threatening enemies faster and with less worry. I love doing so much dps that I can single-handedly rally my entire team because I can kill a specific enemy mob before my allies die from the downed state. I love doing so much dps that I can melt an enemy before they even become a threat to the team and simplify the run for everyone else.
These things are all very self-gratifying, and after I do any single one of them (and others I didn’t list) I feel great knowing that my contributions made the team’s success possible. It isn’t as clear-cut as “I am a healer, I heal” and “I am dps, I dps” and “I am a tank, I tank”, but once you come to terms with that, you realize that the breadth and depth of GW2’s combat facilitates you being able to achieve self-actualization through all of those roles simultaneously, in any mixture you want to build yourself for, when doing the end-game content.
If you can’t or won’t see any of that, what you’ve really learned is that you like one-dimensional roles. That’s not bad, nor is it good; it is what it is. I like GW2’s combat so much more, though, and I feel more pleased with myself playing this game than playing any other MMO with the trinity. That’s why I’m sticking around for the long haul.
I enjoy the Grawl boss too because it is an actually interesting fight, but that is neither here nor there. The key point you seem to be missing from my posts is that Mossman is not hard, he is easy, but he is a stupid boss that is not interesting in any way and drags on due to his mechanics and HP pool. That is my only point. He needs to be made more interesting, a lot like the dragon shaman or the jellyfish also need to be made more interesting.
Furthermore, I want to emphasize that just because he is an easy boss does not mean that his mechanics are worthwhile or should not be improved. Indeed, part of making the boss more interesting is making him stealth less and spend less time in stealth. Players want to spend more time fighting the boss than running for their lives or trying to guess that they’re fighting the boss. A predictable and telegraphed stealth teleport axe strike would be an awesome move for Mossman, but him running around chasing players in stealth for 30 seconds is not an awesome move.
I run every dungeon in the game, bar high-level fractals (depends on what we roll), in 30 minutes or less. The only extra time required would be for me typing explanations for bosses if they need one. Like I said before, I’d be happy to show anyone who doesn’t believe it. This has nothing to do with my personal ego or whatever; I just want to convey the best way I can (by showing) that this game does not need to be made easier, players just need to be willing to listen, research, and learn.
I would be happy to bring your entire guild and all of your friends in any combination of your choosing, with me being the fifth member, and I guarantee that you will not fail a single dungeon run of any dungeon in the game assuming you can and will listen to my advice.
Dungeon content may be harder than other content, but currently it is a breeze and, on the contrary to your point, there is no truly difficult content for people like me. I would be happy to show you if you don’t believe me or think I’m trolling you or something. Seriously, contact me.
No more crying on soloable paths please
Every fractal bar a few with events that prevent it (like Swamp or Dredge) is soloable at the pathetic level 1 difficulty. Seriously, try the water fractal or the ascalon fractal; they’re even easier.
However, your argument is rife with logical fallacies; just because you can solo a fractal on the lowest possible difficulty neither means the fractal is appropriately designed or worth the time investment. What this fractal needs is loot being dropped in the events, and if Rob thinks that’s unreasonable, then a change in the events such that it is reasonable. Seriously, it’s important to justifying the time investment.
His stealth significantly reduces the feasibility of DPSing him for many reasons.
Things that his stealth does:
- Every single projectile or beam auto-attack in the game cannot target him in stealth, significantly reducing DPS
- Mesmers cannot use clones on an invisible target, reducing both DPS and damage mitigation
- Many other skills cannot be used on invisible targets
- Melee attackers are not going to wail at the air to DPS him because they are liable to get axed in the face with agony or his double-swing, lowering DPS significantly
- He sometimes restealths immediately after unstealthing, reducing the window of opportunity to do anything in response
The real problem here is that he is stealthed for too long, and this drags the fight out painfully if everyone plays sufficiently so that no one ever dies. He deals too much dps to just sit there and attack in stealth much like we used to do to Simin back in the day.
I’m not saying he’s impossible, I’m saying he’s unreasonable. He’s not fun, and he takes way too long. Give me Bloomhunger any day of the week. That boss is so bad I can solo him at L48 if need be, and a full team can roll him in a minute or so.
Just mail it to me and save yourself the trouble of deciding when to sell! I need like 1350 of the blasted things, but there’s no way I’m buying anything at these prices.
I’m excited for everything about this patch except the living story component. The past two months have really dropped the ball and left a lot to be desired, so I’m setting my expectations low in the hopes that I’m pleasantly surprised, rather than sorely disappointed again.
Yeah this guy is pretty cool. I hope he acts as cool as he looks, and isn’t an ignoramus.
I agree that she looks ridiculous. Her eyes are very uncharacteristic of the race, and they throw her facial proportions way out of whack. I have no problem with it if she’s supposed to look disfigured as part of her story (runt of the litter?), but if she’s supposed to merely represent a young Charr that is otherwise pretty typical of the race, something is very, very wrong.
How did you get to that menu? I’ve only ever seen the one that you get when you press B .
That is, without a doubt, part of the new content coming out in 5 days.
It is so uniquely different compared to GW2 and there is so much history that GW2 players should have a way to get a GW1 account and bind the two together.
You can, here’s how:
- Buy GW1
- Link GW2 account to GW1
- If you can’t figure it out, open a support ticket
- Profit
This would be amazingly useful, and I would definitely buy them.
I especially like the solution that they become “Account Bound + Soulbound on Equip” to prevent resale. That’s classy and uses the architecture of the game well.
I see no reason why people playing the TP should have an advantage over people who grind content.
They don’t unless they’re really good / lucky, in which case they deserve every copper made. CoF 1 farming is over that way; have fun.
I think challenging content, even one-time content, that has a significant build-up and cumulates in a massive and hour-long event that has a karka-chest-like reward would be awesome. We definitely need more of it, and less living story teaser months. People like to feel rewarded, and currently the living story is so unrewarding that I feel like it costs me potential gold earned elsewhere by spending time on it.
Ooh, a fractal runner and a dungeon runner! How exciting to hear!
My guild, VZ, is a medium-sized PvX guild on the Stormbluff Isle server, and no you wouldn’t be forced to transfer. You could run with us, and then transfer down the road at your discretion. If you really want to stay in Maguuma, that’s cool too; we’d be more than happy to have you cross-server anyway. We run dungeons nightly, have dungeon days on Saturdays, run fractals when we can (I and many others in the guild are at 40+), do guild missions, and the whole nine yards. Also, your time frame isn’t an issue; I work 40-50 hours weekly too, and am more active on weekends much the same. Actually, a lot of players in the guild are like that, and there’s nothing wrong with it. We schedule events on weekends or later in the evening on weekdays. You can read more about the guild in the link in my signature if you’d be so inclined.
Anyway, I hope you contact me about this. You can ping me in-game by whisper / mail, or on the forums anywhere and I’ll answer. I’ll follow-up with you in-game later tonight as well. If you have any questions or thoughts, don’t hesitate to bring them up.
I hope, and expect, you’ll find what you’re looking for in a guild no matter what. It really is a good thing to have in this game. Cheers!
Well, you needn’t look any further (cheesy I know, but true!). Fortunately for us all, dungeons can be run cross-server, so what server you’re on really doesn’t matter (unless you want to WvW with us, that is).
Anyway, judging by what you’re looking for, I think [VZ] is a great fit. We’re a medium-sized PvX guild on the Stormbluff Isle server, we run dungeons frequently and have many dungeon masters, run Fractals when we can (many are at L48), and run guild missions weekly. We focus on being the best players we can possibly be, but we definitely strive to be casual about it because we all have real lives and many of us work full time or something close to that. We also run WvW periodically when we feel like it, and do pretty well when we do. If that sounds good to you, you could join and run with us, and then if you so felt inclined could switch servers down the road; there’s no standing requirement for it right now. For more information, check out the link in my signature that goes to the guild’s thread.
I encourage you to either PM me here or contact me in-game by whisper or mail so we can talk further. I’ll follow-up with you in-game later tonight, but keep in mind that I’d be happy to answer any questions and address any concerns you might have.
Regardless how this ends up, good luck in finding what you’re after!
F&F is the first chapter of the living story, or living world. As more chapters get added, this forum will serve as a general discussion for the living world at large, while the other forums will serve for chapter-specific discussion.
This is not an account issue, but a tech support issue. I have reported it so that it will get moved to the proper forum.
Not necessarily is your email compromised. Deny the request, and then change all of your passwords immediately, and use different passwords for both your email address and your game account. If they can log into your game account, it at least means they know what your email address is, not necessarily what the password is. If you use the same password for your email and game account, then you are in immediate danger of being hacked. For good measure, you should also perform a sweep of your computer for any malware or spyware logging threats before changing your passwords. Lastly, read this.
However, because of your second post, it leads me to believe that they have access to your email account as well. You should take care to fix up your security issues and then open a support ticket so that they can revert your account to its pre-hacked state.
OP didn’t say anything about changing stuff, just more options.
More is always better when it comes to character creation. That said, what we have now is fine is my point. I am plenty okay with waiting for an eventual expansion to get more variety in the races.
Either way is expensive, but in the end, both ways are better than having to do fractals.
Maybe that’s true for you, but you don’t speak for everyone. I wish I could do Fractals level 50+ and get ascended accessories/amulets that way. Doing hard content for gear that’s not time-gated would be absolutely awesome.
I enjoy underwater combat, but I think a few things need to happen before we can have all-underwater zones:
- All skills need to function underwater. ANet needs to come up with ways to make them work. The limited builds underwater makes underwater combat less exciting.
- More underwater weapons. A third underwater weapon set for every class (and +1 for Eles and Engis) would be necessary to give enough build diversity.
Once those happen, then I’d love a full underwater zone in PvE and PvP.
When I spawn banners, I hope someone takes them, because then they can help the group for a longer period of time. The same is true of Elementalist weapons, because it spawns one in your hand and the other on the ground specifically for people to use.
If you like a Mesmer’s technical playstyle, you will probably also like the technical playstyle of an Elementalist. I think that’d be a good choice for you.
You don’t even need more than 25 AR in FotM 48 unless you are a really bad player and get hit more than you should. Even for Maw, there are strategies for getting by without surviving. There’s no rush to get these accessories, so just get them with guild commendations and save your laurels for something more useful.
Please get this into the March patch, ANet!
Dredge may be longer, but at least Dredge has good loot. Cliffside has abysmal loot and it takes a long time, which is what makes it so painful. Also the boss at the beginning is a major waste of time.
Staff is a great weapon, the 1 just sucks because it’s so bloody slow and easy to dodge by just walking.
Only the soundless will eat salads after this.
Fixed that for you.
There’s no reason to dodge when you’re invulnerable. That this skill can be canceled at all by things like a dodge is an issue that should be fixed.
You’ve gotten a ton of invites so far, and probably even more PMs, but I felt compelled to post this because your OP sounds like the sort of thing I specifically look for in all new members of VZ.
VZ is an active, medium-sized, PvX guild on the Stormbluff Isle server. We do all end-game content, but primarily focus on PvE dungeons / fractals, and we have many masters in the guild of this sort of content and fractals and more. We also run WvW periodically if that tickles your fancy, though we’re not a huge presence there. Furthermore, we do weekly guild missions for those lovely commendations. If any of that sounds interesting and you want to know more, check out the link in my signature for all of the details. If you want to know still more or have specific questions, contact me either in-game or here by any means you choose and we can chat it up and get to know each other a little better.
I hope to hear from you, but either way hope you find the guild you’re looking for; it really matters in a game like this.
It’s interesting how different opinions play into it.
I particularly enjoy the Dredge, Grawl, and final Cliffside bosses. I think that Bloomhunger is a tragic bore because he’s so easy and trivialized by projectile reflections, and that Ashym is depressing because it’s so bloody easy to go the entire fight without dodging and still never getting hit. The first cliffside boss is a complete waste of time, I agree, and the dragon shaman and jellyfish are mind-numbing as well. Strifey, above, and I seem to agree totally on Mossman as well. I also don’t particularly love the Asura boss because his agony projectiles are homing and speedy, and generally are not an interesting thing to dodge. If he had aoe circles that he spawned that inflicted his agony instead, it’d be a much more enjoyable boss fight.
Needless to say, I want the bosses to become harder and more interactive. I want Fractals bosses to not be tank-and-spank like many of them are currently. It’s terrible, to me, how some very small changes to their mechanics could make them so much better as bosses, and yet I don’t think Rob and the dungeon team are really pursuing those changes.
I wish I could convince them that it’s worth it! This is supposed to be the hard content!
Just about everything that you stand for fits perfectly with VZ, though we don’t use a website because I don’t like forcing users to post or use on-site applications or basically jump through hoops to enjoy in-game content. We also PvE a lot more than we WvW, though we definitely do both. I’m putting this at the beginning of my post in case any of it is a deal-breaker for you, and I want you to be aware.
Anyway, VZ is a medium-sized PvX guild on the Stormbluff Isle server. We run weekly guild bounties, run every dungeon in-game based on our mood at the highest possible skill-level (we have many dungeon masters), run L48 FotM, and WvW every so often based on our mood. Essentially, the guild’s activities are based around what the players feel like doing, so in that sense it’s casual, yet hardcore as well because we insist on being excellent players in all things we do. We’re looking for cool people willing to chat, enjoy themselves, be a little proactive, represent, and in general just be a good friend. Judging from your post, this sounds like a good fit for you, but you are the final judge of that. If you’d like more details about the guild, you can check the link in my signature, as it covers pretty much everything. Having people undermine your decisions sucks, and you wouldn’t have that problem in VZ if you ascended in the ranks. You also wouldn’t be forced to change servers right away unless you wanted to; you are more than welcome to run with us and represent and get a feel for it first!
You’re more than welcome to message me in-game or on the forums for more information, with questions/concerns, or just to talk and so we can get to know each other.
Regardless of how this ends up, though, I wish you the best in finding the guild you’re looking for. I recognize that having people undermine your decisions sucks, so hopefully whatever guild you join won’t have that issue. Good luck.
Fancy that, because I’m looking for super fantastical players to join my guild!
Anyway, I appreciate your humor and think that your maturity would be more than welcome in my guild. You’ve gotten a ton of requests so far, though, so maybe you’ve already found someone, but I think it sounds like a great fit so I’ll give it a shot anyway. [VZ] is an active, medium-sized, PvX guild on the Stormbluff Isle server. We play every night, have a fair number of active members, do guild missions weekly, have many dungeon masters, have many players at L48 FotM, and WvW occasionally. More than anything, we’re looking for friends and family-like companions who are willing to learn and enjoy high-end PvE content. I’m not going to bore you with a really massive post filled with lists because if you’re interested and want to know more, check out the link in my signature to the recruitment post. I’d also be more than happy to talk to you in-game, and you can contact me by any means (in-game or on-forums) and we can chat it up and get to know each other better.
Either way, I hope you and your wife find what you’re looking for. A good guild goes a long way in a game like GW2. Cheers.
This event chain was fun, and there is nothing in the lore that suggests that other Ancient Karka do not exist. I think it’d be cool if they brought it back.
Mossman isn’t even all that bad in the 30’s. Make sure to zoom in on your map so you can track his icon when he’s stealthed, and have a better chance of evading him. If someone dies, just have someone kite him while someone else is rezzing the down so you don’t wipe. If you have Mossy’s aggro on you, don’t try to rez the down, however – that’s a good way to wipe.
It has nothing to do with him being hard, it has everything to do with his absolutely massive health pool and the fact that he stealths for 50% of the fight (sometimes he stealths back-to-back). His fight takes way too long, is very unsatisfying, and the only real threat that he carries comes from throwing agony-axes while he is invisible.
Note: This only applies to “Hold the Line!” and “Stand Your Ground!” I think “Save Yourselves!” and “Retreat!” are great.
One of my favorite things about the female human Guardian audio is the desperation, energy, and battle-cry-style of the shouts “Save Yourselves!” and “Retreat!”. Meanwhile, the same cannot be said of the other two shouts, “Hold the Line!” and “Stand Your Ground!”. Both of these shouts sound as though the woman is merely saying their phrases nonchalantly, and they don’t have any energy behind what they say. Having the voice actor scream “HOLD THE LINE!” and “STAND YOUR GROUND!” would make the skills much more satisfying to use.
While we’re at it, can you also fix the fact that other players cannot hear Guardian shouts? Warrior shouts work like this, Ranger shouts work like this, but Guardian shouts don’t.
Thanks Audio team!
I think my male Charr looks amazing and wouldn’t change a thing. Opinions will be opinions.
yeah, it’s fine to jump over stuff. I built the swamp fractal to be a sort of skill test – new people will struggle with it, learn things, get better, and mastery of the fractal becomes a test of knowledge and skill beyond just the combat system. Plus its an opportunity to explore different uses for utilities outside of combat.
I’ve pondered randomizing the locations of the traps, but I think having them placed as they are is more along the lines of my original intent for the fractal.
While we have your attention and are talking about fractals randomization, Rob, I’d like to recommend you make the Dragon Shaman boss in the Snowblind fractal use random positioning for his Ice Storm skill instead of the fixed pattern he uses currently. Having them follow predictable patterns makes the boss very dull and boring (can dodge the whole thing with 2 one-foot sidesteps), whereas if they were randomized you’d really want to pay attention. If you do this to increase his difficulty, lowering his HP a little bit to compensate would make the boss much more engaging and less repetitive, and probably make me actually have fun against him.
My question is: what’s wrong with you for complaining about peoples’ attitudes on a forum for game discussion? I don’t intend offense, but this is completely unrelated to everything that these forums exist for. I hope you figure it out and calm down and maybe look at it from a different angle next time.
I would never create a charr or asura for this reason, because I dislike their animations.
This is the exact reason I have a Charr and an Asura. I love their animations, and they fit exactly the spot in lore I want them to fit.
There are spots where you can jump over the walls. Not sure if it is intended or not, but it’s not always necessary.
ANet has said that these are intentional and clever uses of the terrain by the playerbase.
The value of the bank slot is the convenience of having it all in one centralized location. That’s what makes it worth the gems.
Mossman is not fun and is an abysmal boss, but otherwise this fractal is great.
The demand has only changed marginally with the addition of the ascended Triforge Amulet. The supply is the problem, because you can no longer reliably get them from Orrians, and now their drop percent is competing with other T5 and T6 materials. Their supply needs to be drastically increased, or maybe of the most important recipes in the game become utterly unusable.
I would never have bought the game.
They’re a transformation; they are for personal amusement. The bug is that they linger after the transformation has ended.
