play something other than a medi build and ask: “are we in a good spot”
So you say that medi guard is easier to play than let’s say… burn guard ?
As for such a slight buff, it’s amazingly useful in both PvP and PvE. Now we could use a good touch to shield trait, perhaps something like instead of toughness a few seconds protection and regen boon when we get critically hit every 10 seconds. Cause why not ? OP MUCH ?!
Well, I think that people here just over react.
But that doesn’t mean that guardians aren’t in a good spot to get nuked down.
I play GW2 for 3 months (laugh at my inexperience) and I main medi guardian although I also tried a few other classes as well. In terms of PvE I can’t say much as I don’t play it for now but in PvP we indeed take a good spot no sarcasm
As for ideas, there is always conflict on other profession forums too, here is no different although we have the most QQ threads right after thieves, I guess.
It’s not always what community wants but rather about what is comfortable for Devs to allow to add in current state.
We asked for lots of things that could boost guardian overall, after BWE2 in feedback threads we had a lot of nice ideas and suggestions and we got some of them as you can see on Karl’s BWE3 thread.
It’s easy to notice that lack of synergy between DH spec and the rest of specs is quite damaging the DH relations with other builds. I like the sheer idea of DH although It’s a rare thing for a knight/crusader/paladin/guardian archetype that is bound to melee and slight ranged support to give ranged ability to fight with a bow (thus I conclude, give us fist weapons at some point in the future so we could righteously slap our enemies with “Fist of Justice”)
The latest buff might be good, but what we need now are better traits that will mix here and there with other weapons and utilities.
I’ll give some of my suggestions about traits that could be somehow better (though I suck at giving ideas due to my low experience with this game):
1. Zaelot’s aggression seems nice but is weak. What it could use is to keep the damage it gives now but for a bow and do 2x the damage if you use a melee weapon and critical hits once every 10 seconds cripples enemies for 4 seconds.
Now this sounds a bit more aggressive
As we lack some nice passive boons we could have some regen every now and then so:
2. Hunter’s determination. Let’s keep what it has now but add a regen boon and protection for every critical hit that is dealt to us every 15 seconds.
Because why not ? Could be OP too much considering all those other classes ?
Oh and something off this topic:
give Litany of Wrath 50 % damage dealt to heal and perhaps a 6sec protection too, cause shelter is for filthy casuls, kthxbai.
P.S.
Give us the kittening land polearms dang it !

There is no need to make QQ threads… seems like most of guard threads are QQ
What does it take to be the very best, like no one ever was ? (pun intended)
How long did you top tier guys spend to get to that level of yours ? Did you have to play all other classes, do you have to get glorious 60 frame rate and inborn perception and reflexes to see all that happens during fights ?
I wish to know more, grant me your insight oh Mighty Grand Guardians.
“None of all classes in this game are under/overpowered. You just have to Learn2Play noob”
- PvP Elitist
(this is what we tend to hear from those guys)
I play as a mediguard for barely a month and as an unskilled lad I can say that thieves are really weak. It just takes to get out of stun and thieves have it uphill, even if they go stealth you can still more or less aim where they are due to thief icon being still displayed on minimap after going in stealth. Even if you blindly attack or use random AoE their low hp pool and poor survival capabilities make them greatly squishy. It takes one smite condition with a condition to make thieves go like “aww crap” now If someone has loads of AoE then the fun for thieves ends there.
But it’s a 1v1 issue, they are doing much better in other ways like fast decap from point to point, taking out cruicial targets like support builds or those who are running away or are occupied with fighting someone else. During certain matches I experienced in both opponent’s and my team that thieves if played well can end a team fight in merely bunch of seconds just by downing all enemies with their insane burst.
If you just help them to keep hostiles out of them, they can safely do massive damage.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Why we can’t get our tomes back ? Oh wait… is it because they were OP by any chance ? Awww that is a real shame, really. Dang it why we get stripped out of every nice thing and when we are about to get some shinies it turns out to be not that amazing as we were told it would.
I guess it’s because we are bound to being “in a good spot” once again.
I think by balancing people mean taking care of something that makes you hard to beat and you don’t even know how and when (a.k.a. passively activating traits). I’ve spent some time on elementalist and pvp forums and it looks like passives and dagger abilities on ele are the salt in the eye.
P.S. to those who claim ele’s to not be OP in any possible way.
Explain me why one of major classes in pvp is Ele and why it has such a wide variety of players on different skill levels ?
But if some individuals (that are met once every dozens of decent players) handle ele nicely then that’s good, that’s real good mate, I am happy for your glorious 60 frame per second, reflexes and perception that sadly quite a chunk of players lack. But I understand that not everyone is made for PvP and it’s just bound to happen that someone will be bad at it.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Skilled people are OP, nerf community.
But seriously, I am happy that we will get some balance, finally people that lack perception of an elitist or other kind of MLG pro will be able to get some bit of fun instead of getting roflstomped by decent and skillcapped eles ;D I hope that guard will get some boost too though.
Litany of Wrath is second best after shelter but still, the second one is superior.
We should be able to pick heals that fits our play style and not something that is just “lel meta”. Litany could be better if working in ways such as:
1. 50% of damage is a heal for 8 seconds – that would make this ability more appealing and gave more survivability as 25% is slightly too little and you don’t even feel that heal while in combat and due to lack of cripple enemy just kites away while we get flimsy 6 seconds of already relatively weak healing based on damage we deal.
2. longer cooldown but 4 seconds of 100% damage received is healed (cause why the kitten not ? Let us have at least one ability that will make our enemies feel terror and slight respect towards DPS guard other than burn)
3. 25% damage dealt and received (perhaps 50% damage reduction) is converted to healing for 10 seconds
Now tell me why these could be bad and think about what other classes have for their healing and passive defensive abilites.
P.S. don’t you think that ele’s auto attack capabilties of healing on resto signet isn’t a bit too much ? It heals much for more health and more frequently than guard’s virtue of resolve passive.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
I know this might not be related to this thread but I don’t want to start another one.
I play as a mediguard, standard meta build GS/scepter and focus.
My question is mostly for those guardian build players: how you counter d/d eles (if it’s possible by any chance) and what you find as the hardest and easiest part of medidation guard ?
I don’t get this “being in a good spot” argument that I hear most of the time, would someone care to explain ?
How about leaving True Shot with 2 sec root but 1500 yard range and a slight boost to damage and unblockable. Because why not ?
EDIT:
Perhaps 2 sec longer cooldown as well
You all make a good point about ranged traps, I understand now that traps being used at range is quite unfiting. But DH could really use something more to even force enemies into traps without luring them.
Just like JimmydT said, F1 could also work as binding blade because this is also for what people will mostly use GS to get out enemies into traps but the cooldown even if traited is quite long so one more extra pull could be really helpful, of course if it wasn’t on a huge cooldown as well becuase in the midst of stabilities, blocks and evasions 25-30 sec cooldown pulls are not that frequent.
Cheers everyone !
After BWE we had few threads about Dragonhunter overall but let’s make some more so that Karl could see more of your feedback.
We know now that most of things we asked for earlier were already taken under consideration but not yet implemented in the last BWE. I’d like to speak more about our new utilities and what we could do to improve them.
While reading threads and scrapping ideas we all came to conclusions that traps could use these following additions:
1. Traps could be better if invisible to enemies (perhaps after few seconds after dropping them)
2. Traps should have an ability to being set at range (not far, about 600 – 900 yards)
3. Traps should be more synergised with LB traits and skills to make better combos.
Now I hope we could add something more, considering how much more “off-boons” other classes have to their utilities.
Someone in-game mentioned that it would be a good idea to make traps give us regeneration. might and other kind of boons (depending on traps) that would trigger along with the traps.
My personal idea gives something for Purification. When I saw this ability I thought that due to its name we would get some condi cleanse, but naaah. So the thing is to add to our healing trap some condi cleanse perhaps 3 conditions. Also this trap is useless against ranged becuase they won’t trigger it and it’s getting boring how every guard is running around with shelther and just shelter. This trap heals for a very good ammount for such a short cooldown but the trick is that we need to lure our enemies in it which is not a problem while fighting melee. Purification could be remotely popped after 3-4 seconds so that we could get healed either way but then the cooldown would get longer by the same ammount of seconds.
If this idea is not that good then Purification could at least be have an invisible force field that is 2x larger and pulls enemies into it.
Some people said that traps should be symbols, that could be quite fun with symbol trait to make them bigger and heal as well. Standing over all our traps with extra healing would make us very hard to kill if someone decided to roll for healing power, but it doesn’t mean that it should be or ever could be implemented.
How are you guys feeling about traps ? IMO they are not bad in team fights as enemies are not focused on watching their feet that much but in 1v1 or when we are fighting multiple enemies solo then traps are very, very weak due to cast time and them being easy to counter by just dodging (unless those traps were to still get their effect on dodging enemies then it would be amusing).
What’s a taytays?
“taytays” are mammary glands
Alright so (from pvp point of view)
1. Overall LB abilities are a bit better than BWE 1 but in spvp it’s all worthless in the means of both dps and support, being rooted while using ability 2 is kind of a bummer as well as ability 5 the rest is nice although in my personal opinion it is a shame that we can’t have ranger’s range ;D
2. Traps are amazing but what they lack is what others said, the ability to set them from distance (about 900 yards would be ok). Also wouldn’t it be better to set traps and make them invisible after like 3 to 5 seconds ? If I want to set a trap in melee range I get interrupted a lot because of cast time and people tend to run around it instead triggering it because it’s a big glowy symbol that yells “Don’t walk over me !”. A real hunter makes his traps hard to find, so we should too.
3. I always wonder about it since I started playing, why our F1, F2, F3 have sooo long cooldowns with “meh” passives compared to other professions that can take an advantage of theirs F1-F5 from few to about 15 sec cooldown (I don’t know for sure but). If I pop those I have to wait a long time before having all my best cards on the table, yet some other classes can roll through the field of battle nearly spamming their best bits of skills on demand, very frequently. Don’tcha tell me to trait, even traited the CD is too long. In a fast paced combat, one second makes a huge difference.
4. One last thing about 3 traps: Procession of Blades. What is that ? Is it supossed to tickle my enemies ? It does too little damage without any cripples, roots or other condis. Players or NPCs just walk over them, get damaged a few times and are like “meh”. As it triggers it doesn’t slow or creates any kind of a barrier to keep enemies inside, they could just casually walk out of its range but there is no need to due to a flimsy damage and no conditions.
Fragments of Faith: oh boi, this one is really good but I wonder why I can’t pick all of those shields one after another, I can only pick like 2 or 3, I thought that I could just kite my enemy and with every blow received pick another shield, there are like 5 or 6 of them ? I don’t know for sure but it’s a really cool trap.
Light’s Judgement: one thing, can’t stealth. I thought that I am gonna reveal all those filthy cowards hiding in the shadows until I saw 1 second duration. It’s fun I’d put a trap behind myself to watch my back from thieves and hope for him to not escape in a cheeky brostard manner while going in stealth, guess I’ll have this feeling for only 1 second, yay.
After all this I think that Dragonhunter will be a good spec becuase it’s a good idea for a guard to get some better ranged action than slow blue balls, let’s improve !
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
It just came to my mind what would make LoW a juicy pick. What if it had 50% damage as heal (let’s be honest, it’s hard to keep someone in place for 6 seconds so 25% is too low as ppl run away) but 100% damage RECEIVED will heal you for 2-3 seconds duration ? LoW as instant cast, so we could do “surprise son” on enemy burst while we are lacking a considerable ammount of health. Cooldown could be 30 seconds with trait.
But that part with 100% heal would work only once every 2 casts so it wouldn’t be too much OP.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Indeed, there was even a post about MMR that it mixes players in such a pattern that most of matches are team A: 3-4 low skillcap players and 1-2 decent/skilled players, team B: 3-4 skilled/pros/elitists 1-2 decent/unskilled (who are being carried by their pros teammates). It might take much more time for matches to be balanced, it is hard for sure, but I am willing to wait more and be sure that my medium rank skills and a bit of team work are enough to stand up to my enemies without being smacked around like a ragdoll by solo qued skill-caps who somehow all got in one team or premades.
But if Arenanet decided to do smth about MMR, the real question is how MMR would know how skilled a certain player is in combat and how it should balance the match itself.

Hello
Since few days we welcomed f2players to our community, which is a nice move to let fresh people to help choose their mind about the game.
Unranked arenas aren’t always going toe-to-toe in terms of skill of particular players that participate in a match but that is normal, at least was… since f2p were introduced to GW2 I find out by myself that more and more matches are to turning into a one sided massacre instead of nice quality pvp fight.
I don’t know how match maker works but it’s getting out of hand. I played matches were I was both winning and losing but there was such a great difference in players abilities that I have never seen before for quite some time.
I do not appreciate a match where I can roflstomp my enemies, there is no challange and matches where I can’t move out of my respawn without being shredded to pieces make me feel like I don’t want to enjoy pvp anymore.
One, only one decent player is enough to put down 3 or more f2p, I won’t even talk about mesmers who are just toying around with those clueless poor newbies.
Don’t you find this annoying ? Could there be even any solution to this madness ?
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
1. accept that this is a teamplay game not dueling game
2. get a team
3. diversify your team’s class combination
4. grab a signet necro
5. kill eleor you can
1. insist on using a build/class that is fundamentally overpowered by d/d eles and keep asking why it’s so unfair while, at the same time, ignoring the whole teamwork mentality and pvp heroing out of everything you see.
You are right, but the thing here is that WE have to think how to kill THEM not the other way around. Eles are top of the hill now, as you can see they have the upper hand in combat these days, they don’t need a team to wreck one or a few players (I’ve seen it).
Any classes can outsustain other classes with proper builds. If you’re a stance dps warrior that goes up against d/d and lose, you don’t really have anything to complain about. It’s bound to happen. It’s just that there’s still only a few builds to counter d/d ele atm.
I agree that d/d ele is still a bit over the top. Not OP but def above the rest. But it’s also unfair to deny that it is in their design to have the strength for facerolling into the fight.
You may have a point here, yet still lots of people complain about eles and I don’t think that they are all inexperienced noobs with weak builds who don’t know how to play and who have no idea what they say.
1. accept that this is a teamplay game not dueling game
2. get a team
3. diversify your team’s class combination

If you say you can kill eles that easy, then you fought scrubs or laggers. I’ve met both and I know which one is which. I get to kill some of them as a medi guard but when I face a decent ele, then things get dirty.
Oh, you are right. Poses sound much better. I hope that more people will leave their thoughts here so that Anet will lay their eyes upon this idea.
G’day
Yesterday I played in the mists, after a while of idle staring at my character I came to a conclusion… why my character stands so dull ? The animations we have now are nice and all. Male norn’s fist pounding and arm stretch fits them good as well as for other races. But what If we had idle animations as /slash commands like standing idle in a heroic pose to let you and others to bask in the glory of your toon for example: a two handed sword pierced into the ground and a character resting his hands upon its handle, pretty cool right ? Standing at attention like soldiers do while guarding stuff ? There might also be some other fancy animations like smexy poses for females and males who flex their bulging muscles. There might be class specific emotes perhaps. It doesn’t seem like its too much and too hard to make, heck I would even handle it if those animations were to be acquired through gem store. What do you guys think about it, maybe you have some good ideas ?
Thanks ! I’ll hold on to those and test them to see what will fit me best in this current meta.
Very well, but be it dps or support, there is only burn guard and hammer/staff to go with right ? What are your thoughts fellow dps/support guardians, how are you playing in pvp against scholar classes ?
Cheers everyone !
So it is some time that I play gw2, now it will be 2 weeks spent in pvp as a medi guard. I realy like this build and it isn’t that hard to fight other players but…
As my frame per second isn’t that great, I miss some stuff so don’t tell me to dodge more.
Anyway, my point is that: How do I fight scholars ?
For 2 weeks I’ve matched with various people, sadly I see many mesmers, elementalists and necros. People tend to say they are all superior 1v1 but arenas aren’t 1v1 ? Well, if you are superior 1v1 then you are also better in a team fight, considering how necros tank whole teams across the map with that cursed ability, death shroud (perhaps it has its weak spots so you will defend necro’s dignity, but so far I didn’t see any weak spots on necros). Im not even gonna talk about elementalists (d/d especially). Let’s talk about mesmers and their unlimited clones to kitten around with you and I am bored of the same explanation from experienced pvp veterans with glorious 60 fps “geez it’s so easy to spot the real mesmer” for me it is not easy, not yet at least even though illusion’s pattern is simple, the player her/himself can disengage from combat on demand and keep on doing too many illusions to see where he/she is to be found.
I do not write this thread to call for nerf, because I bet that their nerf is imminent at some point. I ask you, how am I supposed to fight them now ? As I said, I run medi marauder with GS and scepter/focus. What are your tactics to counter those foul cloth wearing kittens ?
Well now I feel more stupid than ever that I didn’t realised it earlier. Thank you for telling me this. By the way, practice match choice should have a caution info displaying for low ranked: “You enter practice match at your own risk. Due to high density of higher ranked players you might get rekt scrub. *Game mode advised for low ranked masochists”
Hello
I play GW2 for less than 2 months, I got my first 80 lvl guardian that I play mainly as a dps.
I’ve had years of pvp content back in WoW so I get the concept. For about a week I pvp in the arenas (only practice) and one thing comes to my mind. Why is it so hard to fight anyone ? If I was a total scrub, I would not say a thing. I’ve trained on PvE to get the hang of this whole positioning and dodging, there is still lots to learn but the basics are grasped. When I first entered pvp lodges, it was a disaster (perhaps I am unlucky). Some matches were won, I tried my best and It ended quite nicely but when it came to close combat, I just got wrecked and dashed to the ground. Well gank party is normal but being destroyed like a plush toy in 1v1 is kinda weird for me. Due to some finishers I saw lots of high ranked players and I know that ranks merely show us that someone has experience, yet it is kind of harsh. By harsh I mean joining a game as a newbie and being smacked like a plush teddy bear, ripped apart and played with.
It would be a great deal to somehow even the odds for new players that have it harder to learn pvp or are new to this game because I (and some other players) feel greatly left out in many of pvp matches where MOSTLY skilled players stand toe to toe. Match making that is pairing players with equal ranks would be a nice change of things becuase only reading guides and how elitists say “L2P”-ing without a possibility to practice with equals, is kind of a bummer. If you think that I hurt my butt too much and that others are okay with that, let me know
TL:DR
My FPS sucks and I q_q because I suck at pvp
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Since we’re dreaming, I would love to be able to wield a pistol.
Traits: counts as a 1 hand weapon. Bullets heal allies and pistol pierces (1 trait)
- 1/4 the speed of scepter that only effects a single target. Low damage but allows for F1 procs to stack up to 6-7 burns if traited for supreme justice. 4-5 stacks if not.
- Shot that stuns a single target. (if thieves can steal Stuns from us, then why not?)
- Shoots 5 slow shots in 1s intervals. Shots blinds a single target and applies burning.
Yea… that’s all I got. Ideas are welcomed lol.
Hah ! Holy Gunslinger. I kind of like it
Spears as a ground variant or throwin a javelin, why isn’t this a thing ?
It’s a really nice concept, I hope that Anet will consider it someday.
Yeah, I guess you are right Pyriel, let’s leave that one to warriors, thieves or rangers perhaps.
But I’d really love a pole weapon, gimmie that already !
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
…new kinds of weaponry would be announced then what weapons would you like for our guardians ? I raise hand for a polearm with medium range offensive weapon with few defensive capabilities.
Also, there is this lil’something: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Fist-weapons-for-Guards
I heard people cryin’ that cestus isn’t guardian-like, but so is a bow. Is there any other game that has paladin/crusader/guardian archetype that uses long ranged weapons like bows ? If Dragonhunter will be a heavy armoured ranger then why the heck can’t (at some point in the future)we be righteously smacking enemies in the face with a “Fist of Justice” ? Either way, it doesn’t have to be just a fist weapon, it could be something like this arm blade: http://www.horrorphile.net/images/hellboy-ii-the-golden-army.jpg
Gimmie your opinions
I am playing this game for over 2 weeks, my main is warrior and I give you that: Rampage is a game changer, especially 1v1
Today I had some pvp matches and WvW encounter, mostly I was being rekt hard but when I popped Ramp I got 1 or 2 ppl in few hits. This might be OP but only for 20 sec every 2 minutes.Actually Rampage is pretty to deal with 1v1. Just kite, spam blind and/or weakness. It’s when a Warriors comes from around the corner in a team fight and motorboats his keyboard to 1shot someone it becomes a problem.
You are right here, this is why I have the hardest time with rogues and other blind spammers, but CC safe stomps, kick and charge every few seconds and boulder always helps me to get fast to kiters, with spec skill that is about roots breaking. Weakness and conditions are being soaked up by huge HP pool. Well I enjoy this skill and it gives me advantage most of the time, unless it is used in the beginning of the fight. Other than that it saves my bottom and I try to use it after CC spam/ low enemy HP to roflstomp and secure the win.
If it is true that elite spec is berserk then dual wield daggers makes the most sense. We could guess that this fighting style would be nothing like rogue’s. I’d love to see some serious mutilation and ripping enemy apart with fast and furious blows.
Yes, a torch would also be a lovely idea. Just a thing came up to me, what if torch could be used in another way, to imbue (set on fire) the main hand weapon to inflict constant fire damage and condition for few seconds ? Who wouldn’t like to wield a flaming piece of steel ?

Yeah, this is what I thought that there won’t be new weaps for HoT, as soon as xpack is announced there is no more big stuff adding that requires lots of work, but If we keep on talking about it then someday we could get dem sweet weapons.
Hello
I play Guild Wars 2 for a couple of days and I love it so far. I play as a warrior and I really like the wide variety of weapons for all classes.
I am sure that there are many topics regarding weapons but they sink in too deep into the forum, so I thought that it would be worth a while to let this topic come up with fresh discussion.
Since I started playing GW2 I kept on wondering, and I bet that you do as well, where are two handed axes ? I’ve seen somewhere a bunch of posts that told of 2h axes being put into the game (perhaps, nothing is sure). This kind of weapon is popular only because of WoW, TES series and probably bunch of others less popular games, but we think of it as a quite iconic element of gear. What do you guys think about it ? I am completely aware of the fact that adding something new to our equipement will take resources, balancing and ideas for skills and traits. It is nothing necessary but when Arenanet will think one day: “heck, let’s give’em some new weaps” it would be wonderful, right ? Well 2h axes is one thing, what you all think of unarmed combat ? I picked Rampage elite just for the sheer awesomeness of that ability and it saddens me when I get back to my ordinary axes instead of punching everything straight in the face, brutalizing my opponent with a fistful of strikes (that pun tho). If we have such interesting items such as torches, scepters, focuses, tridents, pistols something that isn’t so ordinary in other games, then how about having polearms (spears on land) crossbows, fist weapons (knuckles, arm blades, claws) 2handed axes. We all know that we have our own thoughts about this and let us share with them. I wish that one day we will wake up and see our armory being overflown with new ways to stab, crush, impale and rip our enemies. I’ve seen that warrior doesn’t have an elite spec yet for HoT, my dream is for warr to have some sort of a brawler spec, but with what weapons ? If it turned out to be true then I would nerd all over the floor. What would you ladies and gentlemen like for your classes ?
Let us speak, let us discuss, you are all gr8, no h8, stay golden ^^
