You stop tanking and go help your teammates. Those things also happened to NotHelseth during the streams. What he did was to disengage from far, got to mid, win the cap, push back to far to wait for the respawns. If your team can’t get the point by themselves, you force it and take it for them to hold while you tank elsewhere.

It’s quite a challange to do so without many effective mobility skills. Mostly as a guardian I get to hold a bunch for a couple of seconds before I am burned out due to CC locks (speaking about 3v1 situations). If I try to run away I’ll just die because of being chased down between points.

I’d love to give them more capabilities for stable boon share, because this is what they were made for, not Revenant.
Perhaps tomes as kits for some more interesting rotations, some kind of a mechanic that is similar to what Berserker and Druid offers (instead of tomes if it’s possible)
Also give them something extra for symbols, make’em follow a guardian like warrior’s fire field on torch.

We just gotta get good any carry ourselves. If you manage yourself, you will manage your team. Because: strength of the team is each member and the strength of each member, is the team. (Yes, it’s from Paladins. Who knows this quote, knows what I am talking about)
But what should we do in situations when one (so called “carry”) is tanking 2 or 3 enemy players, and the rest of the team still manages to die and not take a single cap?

Aye, it is true. I didn’t play for about 4 days I think, real life stuff and things. When I came back I fell from 1st platinum to 2nd rank of gold in a severe losing streak.
It really felt that the system forced me to lose all these matches despite my best efforts, trying to come up with a strategy and rotation with my teammates. Most of situations I had were basicaly outplayed (it’s not that my team was bad, but the opposite team seemed to be always consisting of high ranked players.)

Aye, it is really strange and because of this system I can’t really say if I am a bad player or not.
Firstly I got placed in the first tier of gold, fell to silver a bunch of times and then I climbed to platinum all that solo as a guardian with a non meta build (I don’t like playing traps).
I play pvp for about 7 years, over 1 year in GW2. I know my drill, how to do stuff… but today is a bizzare day.
I am freshly after some exams so I didn’t play for a few days so I could study. After those examinations (which I passed, yay!) I came back to play some because decay made me fall to gold. And so it began, now I feel like a bottom casual who should belong to bronze. All my actions, rotations, everything I did was in vain, I ended up in 1v2 situations most of the time. I couldn’t do much no matter how hard I tried.
I am confused, am I really inefficient? Is it just that the system forces me to feel like I am a skilless bag of failure?
I can’t even win a decent deal of unranked ; _ ;

Let's Fix Ranked PVP

in PvP

Rodzynald.5897

I think that keeping solo q as it is and premade to fight premade is the best solution.
The community of PvP’ers is not that wide as we think it is. Instead of quantity, we should focus on quality so that the matches we play are more balanced in the sense that both your team and enemy team knows what to do and how to do.

I think that expanding the tutorial level before entering serious play should be added into the the whole thing. If ranked games were more strict just like @Exedore mentioned, that might raise the feel of seriousness. If something is serious then it also has better quality.
Players who wish to join ranked should be firstly warned with some sort of information that this is a much more respectable mode that requires cooperation and knowledge of tactics, professions, rotations and with his own skill they should respect the efforts and time of those who step into the ranked arena. In short, they should be prepared for what they will be dealing with.
If someone plays for giggles, dailes, practice, go ahead and have fun in unranked.
However competitive is for serious, honourable fights that we would like to enjoy with a bit of thrill, all that to measure our true skills and capabilities with devoted team mates and enemies.
I had many matches when I lost by a tiny bit, many comebacks and twists on both sides. These lost matches I cherish as a token of a well fought encounter.
When I win a game that has the same situation as above, then I feel proud of my team and of my own skill, as well as being pleased with the opposing team for providing a remarkable challange.

If we focus on educating people, show them that unranked and ranked are almost two different things. The one is for happy fun times, and the other for serious games, then we might see a raise in quality of games played.
I suggest that ranked option in game’s interface should be equipped with a little detail that is “Ranked compendium” that would consist of basic terms, tips and knowledge regarding those things that are most cruicial in ranked play (as well as in unranked). I think that those elements should be covered:

- Rotation
- Target Focus
- Mob (Svanir, Chieftain)
- Far, Mid, Close/Home
- Lord
- Point capture mechanics
- Mini map (it is also a very important part of rotation)
- Chat box and its perks through communication before the match starts
- Auto run that can be used to move your character to your destination and write in the chat box for some tips or suggestions, while not losing time standing idly.

And a totally fancy idea of mine that I don’t think it would ever be added, but I’ll share anyway

Do you know how to play?
A short set of information that pop up when someone enters ranked for the first time. It would consist of questions and answers, (this is the best part) that would be submitted by the playerbase who played at least an X (considerable) ammount of games in both unranked and ranked. These informations could be placed on gw2 sub-site, where those who log in can participate in this project. But only experienced players who already have their fair share of games on their account, could have the right to submit questions/answers and vote for them.

I think that cooldown on trap activation should do just fine. Also prevent traps from stacking. As I said in another thread about DH’s, if there is a trap already and if a second DH tries to put his trap on top of the other, he will drop it put the first one will vanish and get back to the first guardian, off cooldown. It should also work on other classes’ traps.
Also! If a trap gets activated and does the thing it does best, still it should not be possible to drop another trap (to prevent too much dps stacking of course).
Last but not least, DODGING OUT OF trap should not trigger it (it is meant for toning down the mindless JI/SoB + trap spam technique).

A few ideas to improve rankings

in PvP

Posted by: Rodzynald.5897

Rodzynald.5897

This is very well said.

You shouldn’t get punished for being teamed up with people that have (a lot) less experience, or just do bad.
And right now the only thing you can do is try and save whatever there is to save, but most of the time it’s just worthless effort.

True, it happens way too often. I know a bunch of people that I did premades back in seasons 1-4 and we did dangity dang well. Now as we parted ways and soloq, we are all stuck in gold, losing matches that cannot be carried due to 1 or 2 (or more) incapable players, or just well played, combat proficient and rotation experienced players who know how to focus.

As for penalties, no deaths and most deaths shouldn’t be taken under consideration. Because of that we would welcome bunker meta of sorts once again or too many professions that have a lot of escape on demand mechanics (also people might run away from a fight just so that they don’t get killed.)
Personal score should be some sort of a multiplier for how someone did perhaps. Although if it comes to multiple point caps, only the first player who enters the point will get rewarded for caps, unless he leaves it to another teammate. That would be a good way to prevent double caps.
Also, considering that some people are not that perceptive, a pop-out information about not getting any points for multi caps could be also implemented as one enters the point after someone else is already there.

Guardian is meant for jolly crusading.

Dhs.... -_-

in PvP

Rodzynald.5897

I think it would be reasonable if DH player’s couldn’t stack traps. But then it should be implemented to other classes’ traps to maintain mechanical balance.
The thing is that when one DH drops test of faith and a second DH does the same, if his ToF touches the previous one a little bit, the first one will vanish and go back to the first DH without a cooldown. Also it might be good if trap can’t be dropped if another player trap is already activated to prevent double or triple ToF, PoB etc… even after activation, to not let stack the damage. One set of traps deals a considerable ammount of damage to all players during a teamfight.

Also, dodging OUT OF a trap while it is being placed should not activate it. That would tone down the cheap JI/Sword teleport +trap spam technique.
But then I guess that daze could return, but not necessarily, perhaps slow duration increase.

New PvP Ranked - Unbalanced

Rodzynald.5897

I have to agree with post above. It is sometimes not wise to play games, especially during evening (for me) in solo que because I get this results.
Two 4 days ago I had a pleasant streak of 3-4 matches won in a row and a loss or two. Then it turned into a 50/50 situation of L-W-L-W-L-L-W-W kind on thing.
And now I fell from golden division after few days just because my team was clearly outmatched by the enemy matchup.
How to understand this? Am I just that bad? I always knew how to fight in every aspect of pvp in MMORPG’S, I live by this way and yet… I get run down by the system that wants me to lose? As I said once before, I do not have any excuse for matches that ended up with about 100 points gap, but the rest that has a considerable difference between points is just a mess. How am I supposed to carry or how is someone else in my team supposed to carry if we get crap instead of at least decent players?

Just like they did he first time? Wew… It is worth noting that back then Charr might not have had that advanced weapons of war. Norn are individualists, yet we can find them in 3 different orders, serving under a banner. They might turn into solo fights but It is hard for me to believe that they would watch as an organised army slaughters their brethren and burns down their homesteads. Just as Hoelbrak has Wolfborn (enforcers) I think that Norn could temporarily form some sort of at least slightly organised groups to would hit the Charr where it hurts the most.

Siege engines that our favourite humanoid cats have, are definitely something to reckon with, yet I am sure that a one, magic induced war-bear shapeshifter could handle a tank just right.

Matchmaking Question

Rodzynald.5897

Something like this?

Close to this one, the gap is easily seen. Although it depends on how long it lasted, if the gap was for the whole length of the game then it turned out that one team was outmatched.
As I mentioned once, temple combo that may heavily boost point receive rate and make a huge difference. Also foefire lord might have been killed but with such a gap it means that your team was at a disadvantage to begin with.
There are too many cases where the system forces us to lose just so it can place us. There are dummies in platinum and legendary that somehow made it there.
Let’s not forget about diamonds in the rough, stuck in bronze or silver, gold as I have a friend who knows how to play and he fights kitten well, yet he has a similar case to mine. I can hardly believe that his skill resembles silver.

We can sometimes handle it with premades and duos but sadly I am not able to do so due to unstable times during which I can play.
I also attach the pic of what I deal with now. I am fighting my heart out, giving tips and listening to tips as well, I have nothing to say in defense against matches that were lost with lower than 100 points gap, those were close calls, balanced and well done.
However those rounds that were forced through the system to make me and my team lose… this is just hard to describe without using unpleasant words.

Matchmaking Question

Rodzynald.5897

…they aren’t. That’s a really small gap, especially considering that everyone on your team just dropped 10-15 rating and the opposing team just gained 10-15 rating. We’re complaining about team MMR differences of 20 points and within team MMR differences of 100 points now? 100 points is, like, really close to the standard error on your MMR in a 5v5 team game.

100 points gap is okay to handle, it also happens when enemy team gets two kills on mobs or mix ToTSS buffs. Now it is a bit more underwhelming if you get over about 200 points or more, then a losing team is quite outmatched if they easily die in combat and they are getting picked like flies, outrotated easily. Not to mention 400 points gaps that happen after a win streak of 5+ matches, this is the system’s way of telling us to “Yo, you had your streak, now get back to feeling like a scrub no matter how hard you try.”

I don’t mind losing, but matches with a skill gap where I can’t handle the enemy team with my own mates on a steady groud is truly dissapointing.

I’d love to see spears, but they’d have to create probably 10 to 15 new animations for the weapon for 5 different races, unless Sylvari and Norns share human ones, in that case it’s still 3 races, which makes it about 30 to 45 new animations at best, and 50 to 75 at worst. My math is way off, but you get the idea…

They won’t have to create animations for every class, as they have a habit of re-using animations all over the place across classes with different effects surrounding them every time. They could even lessen the work by re-purposing some Revenant and Daredevil staff animations.

I just don’t see them putting in the effort to do that…

They could already scrap Daredevil’s and Revenant’s animations in order to make ones for polearms.
It would be about 7 animations per race: 3 for AA and 1 for each skill up to fifth slot

Rodzynald.5897

Ok. Spears. 5 races. 2 handed wep. So 5 basic skills. 9 professions (not all.. sure. so let say 4 professions rev war guard and engi) so 4 professions x 5 races × 5 skills= 100 new movesets(assuming male and female have the same moveset if not 200) that require a lot of work + resolving the spear double slot/use problem. All so we can have spears on land. Gl with this…

You do realise that there is much more work with elite specs? Spears could bring up a new, fresh alternative for two handed weapons.
I am sure that warrior, guardian and ranger could have those for sure (Rev not really as they already have staves to fit the role of a pole weapon)
By the way: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Polearm

Also in bank wardrobe you can see a vendor quality weapon that is simply called “Polearm” in spear section.
In that category there are both weapons that look like harpoons and spears that would 100% fit being used on land… so the case of new weapon models is practicaly already done.
Two things that are left, is to implement new abilities and animations. I believe that it takes work as well but heck… I’d even pay for it to use a spear in melee combat. It was one of the reasons I picked GW2 (but later I was dissapointed when I found out that this weapon is for underwater combat.)

I find myself in a little inconvenient situation as when I was meddling a little bit with screen resolution in GW2 options, something went wrong and I was forced to close the game.
Once I tried to start it again, after pressing the “PLAY” button, the screen goes black as intended but then it drops me to my desktop, without even showing character selection screen. There is no information regarding an error of any sort. It all behaves like if I minimazed GW2, but I cannot get back to it.
My guess is that the resolution I changed might have done something that does not allow to let my game display properly, so my question in this situation is:

Is there some way to reset GW2 to default options through some other means, out of the game itself?
I wish to not reinstall it as yesterday It took a very long time for it to download, unless there is some way to reinstall without downloading GW2 again.

It is infuriating how in the most cruicial moments I end up unable to fight and execute attacks that would mean my opponent’s defeat.
But in the end of the day I say that balancing is heading in the right direction, S3 for me was enjoyable.

And as I like to say: Some must lose so that others could win. There will always be those who get losing/winning streaks, someone has to pay the price.

When I saw White Mantle knights and how red eyes shine through their phalanx helmet, the first thought I had was: “I want that”
My character is themed with red/silver colour and I’d definitely love to have an option to turn this effect on while wearing my own phalanx headgear for that extra menacing look.
Could such a thing be possible to attain?

Of course there is no need for making new skins, what we have now is just right as it is.
As for balance, whole elite specializations also upset class balance as you described it.
Anet knew what they were doing, adding new elites and look at the current state of it so far into HoT.
Now I am fairly convinced that balancing a bunch of weapon skills will be much easier than a weapon, traits and utility skills all at once.
I guess that if polearm weapons were to make an appearance, there also could be some other arms for other classes to introduce along the way so that everyone gets something fresh.
Dang, I’d even pay for it just to get my halberd/spear on land.

Thematically this is a very cool elite spec idea and I really wish (but doubt) that they would bring spears to land, or give classes polearms. There are just too many reasons that this doesn’t seem likely.

Give me reasons or I’ll cry myself to sleep T^T
I’ll tell you what. I left WoW due to certain things and wanted something fresh so I looked at GW2
Of course I am a righteousfag for life so I always pick paladin archetype classes.
I say, Anet should update some info because year ago I found myself quite dissapointed when I found out that guardian’s tomes were made into underwhelming elites and spears turned out to be an underwater weapons even when a lot of skins for them look like a dangity dang polearm/halber which is nowhere near to be a spear to use underwater.
DANG IT MAN! There are even moments in certain cinematics where some fighters are seens with spears, using them in close combat. Just check out this battle sequence… I feel like Anet is teasing with me. Polearms is a fine chunk of new combat content.

Almost every corrupted sylvari has some sort of a pole weapon (or a staff)

Perhaps he meant blocks, guardian has only one, 3sec lasting invulnerability.
Anyway I was about to start a new thread but this one will do nicely.

Did anyone noticed something bizzare with matchmaking? I had a few weeks of pause from playing due to real life stuff and recently I got myself back into our beloved game mod. Though I don’t play ranked anymore due to unstable connection (dunno why) I find myself on unranked… but something makes me feel uneasy.

It’s my win/lose ratio. Before last huge update I played as much ranked as I could, getting into diamond on something about 65%-70% win rate. As well as unranked matches were doing fairly good.
But now? Now it all went to mud, I hardly encounter good match ups, being forced to share some tips and tricks to my team mates on how to better rotate etc… (Though I admit, some harsh words get tapped on my keyboard as well, such a rebel I am.)

Anyway, just as many matches I used to win in the past, that many matches I lose these days. I wouldn’t mind it that much if these failed battles were in a tight match up with at last 100 point gap, but well… see for yourselves (pic attached)

Though for the sake of dailes I’ll clench my butt cheeks and do what I have to. I do not expect changes for better as someone has to lose so that others could win but I just wish for an explanation, why such a 180 degree change occured on my account?
It’s not like I suddenly went from a decent well played man, to a borderline scrub.
