I’ve never touched ranger in my life… today I decided to do so. Literally zero combat experience in that matter, picked that glorious meta build.
Guess I am either that good or this build is just another one of these <looks at Cele ele covered in rust and dust.>
Seriously, I had a match that consited of diamonds and legendaries If I am not mistaken, though it was unranked. Still the match was a harsh one, people knew their stuff and how to roll.
I really just mashed random buttons, spammed heals and went to save stab shout and stone sig when things turned grim or just disengaged on demand with staff, or just let pet to carry me. Overall I did very good, just blindly throwing stuff to heal and greatly disrupt my enemies or get those sick safe ress’ with shout. But truth be told, is this supposed to be fun?
I might be just that kind of guy that doesn’t find this easy play amusing and I hope it will get toned down. I really dislike this “Flavor of the month” stuff that happens every balance patch.
im a new player. just started 3 months ago. ive been playing hot joins the whole time…only for 2 weeks have i been playing rateds. i just reached legendary today abd won 6 games in legendary so far. i watched alot of guides like buckets and helseth on how to rotate and many other guides before i started playing rateds. ppl complaining about being stuck in a certain divisions, quite clearly its you and you need to improve. look at guides and see where you did wrong when you lose games…right now im at a %85 win rate. played necro ele and mes depending on comp
If it is true, then this is a testimony of how much legendary division along with its “prestige” is truly worth xD

EDIT:
Forgot one thing, this thread is pic attached.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Oh right, we are talking about what guardian could be ; _ ;
I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
EDIT:
Yes, I must agree. Having perma prot is a sweet spot though… I guess it should be a guardian exclusive for obvious reasons.
You know, we must use hammer and keep auto attacking but we get that sweet 100% prot uptime for us and our allies who stand in the symbol, that would be quite reasonable considering that we are GUARDIANS.
I just wish that protection could stack instead of pulsing and keeping there for one second. Though it can be achieved with rune of earth, It should be built in to stack.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Let’s make a build!
The alternative for people who don’t need AoE cleanses is meditations! With permanent protection and really low cool down heals from traited meditatons, I’ll never die!
Wait what… since when meditations grant perma protection? Perhaps you meant fury, and even then it is not permanent.
‘Stalwart Defender: Protection is now Permanent for you. 20% Reduction to Shield Abilities.’
Not the meditations, but this trait.
It is: “Stalwart Defender: Gain additional toughness while wielding a shield. Shield ability recharge is reduced.”
I looked it up in the game a while ago. Though perma damage reduction while wielding a shield instead of toughness would be much, much better.
Revenants lack passive run speed increase, yet they can truly keep 100% swiftness uptime just standing there with facets on.
I really got a lil’ bit triggered when I saw that chronomancer gets a run speed increase in a minor trait spot… mesmers with that spec don’t even have to pick it, they will have it anyway. With all this cheeky elusive gameplay, portals and blink they still get more run speed? I don’t even know what to say honestly.
Even if guard has a 10sec teleport on sword, we need a target to use it. Same goes for meditation teleportation abilities.
As others said, we can also do well with swiftness uptime, but If we are not meant to play with a staff and shouts, we are forced to sacrifice a weapon swap and an utility slot, along with a whole traitline for staff CD and shout trait.
Guardian 2.0 (Revenant) on another hand just needs to roll with Herald. It is a whole traitline indeed, but it is much better, superior I would say if we were to compare guardian traitlines. Even then, just drop dem facets and fart out boons like its nothing.
Let’s make a build!

About that Dragonhunter part, DH’s damage is mostly depending on their opponent as the main source of “insta kill” are traps. If you counter all efforts of DH trying to lure you or force you into his traps, then it’s a downhill situation for you.
I play DH myself but I do not use traps and I find it pretty kitten enjoyable to kite around and burst down my DH brethren who can’t even pull me. Especially for that I pick stab shout or just use environment to break pulls from F1 and greatsword.
While thief also does not insta kill someone, all they have to do is to keep close to their target and control them which is no easy task as well.
Welp… I play a guardian and this is my only character, I like my guardian and I play it well.
I play a non-meta build for greater challange. It was truly fun to go through 3 divs but I gave up on ruby due to 3 reasons:
1. For unknown reason, recently (since few days) I get high lag spikes that make me a free kill in matches so I decided not to play until this gets fixed in my town.
2. Due to first reason I just got lazy. Plus in the first place I just wanted to hit sapphire and ended up in ruby so that is fine by me.
3. And last but not least, I am not a grinding machine. There is stuff that needs to be done outside of the game.
I guess I could hit diamond and perhaps legendary but first I need to play other classes and learn how to counter them better, and get a better gear so that my performance could get better… yet I’ll never touch meta, tis’ for scrubs.
In the end of the day I am happy with what I got.
No weapon has any links to tomes.
But I did not make myself clear about what I meant. What was running on my mind is that polearm might be just an added weapon and elite spec wouldn’t be focusing on that weapon but tomes.
You know, we get a polearm that could share the trait of a greatsword and be just a weapon without any specific specialization that needs to be used for polearm to be equipped. But knowing how things work out this weapon could end up expansion exclusive to use it but I am ok with that as long as it will be in the game.
vvv
Now tomes are in the other end of the stick and this is where the new elite specialization should be focusing at.
A few days ago I talked with some random players in the game on different zones and they in the end of the day they claim that Paragon and javelins belong to GW: Nightfall.
I thought it is only me that see it as a bizzare thing for having an underwater spear and then thrown spear but no close/medium ranged combat polearm.
I guess the second fits guardian much more than throwing a javelin which is already in the form of spear of justice (yes, yes I know it’s just an occasional ability).
Let scepter be semi-ranged and longbow focused on dealing long ranged fat damage. Tomes/Tome for me could end up being a kit as it would make guardian less predictable in PvP and fit multiple roles in PvE content. I guess this might be the best choice as for now we are thought of as an alternative which is mostly redundant taking that few other classes do everything we can and do it better both in pve and in pvp.
In raiding we are seen as an alternative which is mostly just redundant.
You don’t have to respond that “I do raids as a guardian because [put reasons here]” as individuals do not count as well as being viable only as a tank for just VG. We are talking big here, overall stuff and numbers don’t lie.
If I am mistaken, please correct me.
^^^
These are one of the reasons why we should have tomes.
P.S.
I just really dislike the idea of ONLY thrown spears for guardian. It was the reason that drove me away from paragon and nightfall too as I truly admire pole weapons, and not being able to use them in close ranged combat is making me feel sad. Javelins are a better fit for ranger as a hunter but for a heavy plate wearing and magic powered guardian that should be going head first to the danger? I just can’t feel it, it is just as weird as giving a longbow.
So I was wondering.
Rytlock jumped into the mists and did some magic stuff then pop there he is, re-rolled to Revenant.
Now let’s bring this up: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hidden-arcana-role-playing-the-revenant/
but particulary this part:
“The story of how charr tribune Rytlock Brimstone became the first revenant hasn’t yet been told, but at the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, he’ll have brought the knowledge of how to obtain that power to the world of Tyria, making it somewhat common knowledge. There’s no profession-specific story content planned for the expansion, but a brand-new revenant starting on their journey will not have had to visit the Mists or undergo any more of an advanced process to access revenant powers than they would for the other core professions. All that’s necessary to begin training as a revenant is knowledge of the profession, the faith and will to reach into the Mists, and an open mind.”
It is said that one can become a revenant if he/she has the determination and necessar knowledge to become a revenant without being stuck in the Mists just like Rytlock was.
Now what I wanted to ask you about:
Is this the only way to create our revenant in the term of lore?
I give you this question because I wonder if I could make a revenant compared on our definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenant
Is this a hard lore breaking concept that a certain character could get defeated (not killed but it looked like it died, you know this stuff happens) in battle and then regain its consciousness days after and while being lost in the world it finds a way to commune with the Mists? Be it another revenant or an event that happens to leave us with a stigma or some sort of thing that allows us to tap into and understand the powers of the Mists. (Let’s not dig too deep on that as this is a thing of mistery that happens off-stage and is hard to describe even by Rytlock himself for now, let’s just think of it in the way of attached file).
It’s mostly due to the fact that there aren’t many random mist portals opening every now and then, right?
So if there are means of learning the way of revenant without going into the mists (Rytlock style), then are we save to take the concept of our real world revenant as someone who “dies” and “returns”?
EDIT:
The main thought behind all that is using one character to sort of “die” but its body couldn’t be recovered by let’s say guild members thus left behind, and then return months later as a revenant (re-roll but in a roleplay way).
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
I was just talking with people on /map chat in Lion’s Arch.
Paragons are only human restricted profession which brings as to the second point.
It shouldn’t be an elite spec but a whole profession, dunno why exactly as I never played gw1 but those vets I talked with claimed that it’s too valuable to minimalize it to the level of just elite specialization.
“Paragons are touched by the gods, chosen by them to serve as emissaries among mortals.” – GWwiki
There are only human gods in gw universe and only mankind is believing in them.
But about prideful and stalwart class, yes I have to agree. They are indeed commanders that shine above their allies. Yet what is more stalwart, hiding behind a shield and throwing sticks or impaling enemies in a glorious close combat? Getting close and personal gives us that good and supreme feeling.
Now, now, this thread is tasty but let’s not get hasty.
As much as I like polearms, I don’t think they would fit at all with a tome-themed spec. I say save polearms for a paragon spec, and save tomes for a monk spec.
First thing:
As I said before, you want Paragons then you know where to find them (Now a savage version in Far Cry: Primal). I doubt that devs would want to stab their own lore in the back by giving every race a Paragon spec.
Unless they will only name it “Paragon” but it won’t be like its GW1 counterpart then Im okay with that.
Seriously, heavy armored class with shield that relies only on a thrown weapon feels really weird.
Second thing:
We discuss pole weapons, not javelins or spears. Polearms are not meant to be thrown but to be used in close and medium ranged combat to fend off and impale enemies.
In the end of the day, Paragons are gone along with human gods, we have to deal with it.
+ We already have 3 main ranged weapons and one of them is already for support (on land).
For the tomes part, I was thinking of converting virtues into a tome. Rather than having a lot different tomes, why not just have one but just turn the pages for different spells used from it? I had an idea, not sure how popular this will be but here goes, that it would kind of turn them into something similar to elementalist attunements in a way that they could only be used one at a time. Still have the same passive effects, slightly boosted to account for only having one, and give it an active part that is also strong. The spells could be called blessings, and they would be used for utilities as well.
Bro… you just got me there, I feel it.
This idea feels much, much better indeed. “Equipping” a tome in the form of Elite specalization traitline, perhaps instead of pages the utilities could be followed with “Chronicle”. Something in the lines of: “Chronicle of cleansing” – Some sort of pulsing AoE cleansing.
I’ve looked upon certain things like upkeep and lifeforce or other alternative sources of power.
I thought about this: What if with this tome spec we also got an energy bar but not meant to change us into some sort of a “righteous juggernaut” but energy that powers up those “pages” you talked about or “chronicles” as I like to refer to.
I see it as an energy bar that works like initative or revenant’s upkeep. Then we could “swipe” through the pages activating only one of them at a time. Depending on the “chronicle” we choose, it would pulse boons/conditions and could be activated once more for a special attack/healing/support/ward (yet again, depending on the chronicle). It could be used for as long as we have upkeep, If we wished for it to be used for a longer duration of time, we would be forced to fight just like Rev does with their source of energy.
Also a little touch I mention on Elite spec thread in gw2 discussions sub-forum. Tome hanging down our leg, carried by chains – Warcraft paladins style… oh my that would make me shed tears of joy.
Check out the attachement for a closer look of what I have in mind.
Now for the last thing regarding those that feel polearm does not add up with tomes.
One word: Lorekeeper.
Someone gave that idea and I bless that man/woman for this. It sounds truly amazing and fits guardian just right. (http://disney.trendolizer.com/assets_c/2016/02/2513293-thumb-300xauto-2184352.jpg)
When I think “polearm” I see a stalwart warden that stands on the first line, guarding/keeping what he holds dear.
Imagine it along with me, a tome of dank magic held in one hand and a glorious polearm in the other.
EDIT:
This idea of tomes and kit tomes (like engineer’s) both sound so good that I can’t decide T^T.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
I am glad that some of you see the purpose of tomes and polearms and how it fits in guardian’s spot both in a mechanic and lore meaning.
I really found Paragon as a ranged class that throws javelins a little bizzare, even if this spec returned to the game, then without butching the lore it should only be for humans and human gods should make a comeback as well. This or some weird MMO shenanigans in WoW style so that there could be paragons in all races (for which I doubt to this point that it shouldn’t be possible).
Now… I am afraid that we might not see polearms and tomes both at the same time of one expansion, yet I still hold my hopes up because why the heck not?
These two ideas speak for themselves and this weapon along with those utilities should definitely be added to the game along with boosting guardian’s armory.
Now try to hit legendary with a class that is not (Born2bStrong) boosted to its limit, on a weak computer that has low frame per second and with unstable latency + without force grinding divisions in a matter of days.
It’s not like everyone has top shelf gear, glorious 60fps on high details, low latency and time to get this done as easily as it sounds :I
“Don’t let your dreams be dreams”, yeh… I guess.
But on another note, congratulations on hitting legend div.
I was not worked up, oh well… you can’t read through someone with just words on screen, some sentences might be taken differently without using emoticons.
About your idea Yannir, I think of it as a really good basis for polearm at least for our class. Though the last word belongs to the devs, we might at least give some hints on what might work out better.
As for those who could use it I definitely see a ranger as a hunter. Now that I got hyped with Far Cry: Primal, this idea hit me even more even though I don’t have a ranger character and I might make one if it comes true.
Guardian for guardin’ it really fits the theme and perhaps revenant, even with staff being seen as a polearm weapon if someone is stubborn enough.
EDIT:
Dunno about warriors as they already have a wide variety of weapons to choose from but I don’t think that its something that should stop us from giving them a polearm as well.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
We definitely need an arena of 1v1 and 2v2 unranked and ranked matches, or at least unranked for now.
Don’t need another purely offensive 2handed weapon. We need sustain, not more burst.
Who said that in guardian’s hands this weapon has to be about burst?
I thought of it to be rather a weapon to have a sustained damage, mostly support and a little bit of CC in it with a gap closer.
Some sort of a ground target ability that grants us a 800 yard charge which knocksback up to 3 enemies in a 200 yard cone with a build in blind up to 5 people (on a 5th slot as it sounds pretty strong). “Brilliant charge” is what comes to my mind as a name for it.
I am currently thinking on what this weapons could bring to the field for guardian.
EDIT: Misspell
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
If Moa is not CC then how we should define it ? SD (ShutDown)?
Anyway, it is a very strong ability in its sheer concept but this is how mesmers were made, to dominate the field of battle (made to be strong).
About conditions, it really is a superior way to deal damage.
Other than resistance and cleanse, we have no other means of withstanding damage
over time effects.
Necro still remain a condi bomb and they are kings of condis due to boon corrupt which says “kitten you” to all boons (at least alacrity isn’t considered a boon).
Yet I can’t still deal with that, it is kind of medium to fight against though condi based builds have an upper hand in combat.
About mesmers, If I didn’t play enough unranked and ranked matches I would believe you but I don’t see them being that weak.
I’ve played a considerable ammount of solo and premade matches with teammates that knew their drill and played competetively. Im trying to say that they were not newbies and they fought well.
Yet still, shatter and some other build I can’t quite describe, did a great job as disrupting the flow of teamfight on both my and enemy team, considering that I encountered mesmers in both my and enemy team.
Where are those weak mesmers you are talking about?
Oh boi, oh boi if we got tomes and this beauty: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Polearm
Then I would pre-order the xpack right away.
I can’t agree with OP.
Also, if you stuck in amber/emerald/sapphire it doesn’t mean that you belong there.
If you win/lose/win/lose/win/lose etc… then something is a bit wrong though sometimes we might think that this is where we belong.
I had my fair share of matches up until second tier of ruby. Before I had quite even matches, won and lost but made it with premades and solo que which was hard (you can’t call “grind” on everything that is about progress). Now I can’t move past tier two no matter what. I did solo in the morning, afternoon and evening. Done premades with my guild that is really good at pvp but well… MMR wished for us to fail with giving us stronger teams but hey! This is how pvp works… you lose to those who are stronger, nothing bad with that if you learn from those experiences and try to improve and exceed at some point.
I hope for tomes as kits that would be mostly about support and damage (both power and condi mixed in). That would greatly increase guardian’s capabilities in combat.
For now we are darn too easy to figure out due to “straight line” abilities and rotations.
Now if we had kits then we could have a greater build diversity and huge choice of combos to perform.
The funniest thing about certain classes is that you can nerf if but the base concept of some abilities is OP in itself.
This is how I see mesmers who can basicaly play with you as they see fit and disengage safely from combat anytime of the day if things turn grim. Also elementalists that have 4 attunements so they have 20 weapon skills to choose from and this wide variety gives them an advantage from the beginning (it does not work like that I know, but still…) because well… they have 4 different combat capabilities instead of just one or two.
Yeh it sounds dumb but this is my point of view, some classes are just made to be strong despite of nerfs or buffs.
Now another thing, Moa is a great shutdown… somehow it reminds me of guardian’s weak as kitten signet that is signet of courage and its cast time in particular.
How about just give moa signet the same casting time? This should be easier to avoid and CC considering that most of mesmers use their signet on stealth or in a grand cluster-truck of teamfight aoe where it is really hard to spot it or you are just out of dodge and other stuff to counter that signet.
If no, then give signet of courage a fast cast time and let it be used on one ally to fully heal them and break any form of CC (even moa). That could work out nicely if it ever got fixed.
You are not the only one.
Yet there is no need to feel that disappointed, we are still in a better shape than warriors.
If you know all classes in PvP or just want to do PvE content just hone your skills as a guardian and it should work out just fine (but not as good as some other professions).
Some say guards are strong. <Looks around>, well? Where are those strong guardians that people refer to? I can’t see them over the sea of necros /elementalists/engies/ revenants and rangers.
Well jokes aside, guardian can be pretty tough if you roll with it well but it requires some skill for it to work out just as good as others.
Yet on the long run it MIGHT start to feel unrewarding and boring due to small variety of viable specs/trait, utilities and seeing how almost everyone else (except thieves and warriors) exceeds guardian in every aspect of this game.
P.S.
But in the end of the day, I have a lot of fun playing my guardian, it is my only character (I do not enjoy having alts, kind of destroys my feeling of immersion) and I won’t give up on him. Still looking at the bright future of guardian’s viability to shine upon us, brother!
\[T]/
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Of all I feel that druids are the most problem for me, most of the time.
If you have a spec that is heavily offensive and grab healing stats, you won’t do much.
If you have a spec that is heavily supportive and grab damaging stats, you will do good at worst.
Due to not that high health pool, heals that druids have are sufficient, let’s add up pets that also dish out damage (not everyone has reflect for bristlecarry).
I can do CC chains quite nicely but it all goes to crap once they pop avatar or elite shout mixed with damage immunity signet.
It wouldn’t be that hard if pets were not the main source of burst damage. Most of the fights end up being outsustained. I see that necros have a good time with duds due to 2nd health pool soaking the damage and boon corrupt.
Honestly I take pride and hate in my sense of honorable, power based combat with active abilities and no passive procs. I left WoW due to that, even though GW2 pvp is better I think I might take a break cause my stupid pride won’t let me play and enjoy cheese/cancerous/passive and gimmick fueled classes (you name it).
The worst thing in all of that is that I do fairly good at pvp.
I wish I could write down all those bad feelings but nevermind that.
I just want to know what you think about current meta and all classes that you meet during your both ranked and unranked matches.
Have you ever felt so mad, that you passed that certain threshold and your mind has ascended into a higher state of tranquility ? I know my just did that.
I could go on and on about certain things but I’ll let you take the torch for now.
Raids themselves aren’t bad.
The requirement of ascended gear, that people put on other people, is what causing A LOT of people not being able to take part in it.
And this is quite siginificant.
When I played WoW and did raids, I went there with lower gear to get better gear. Considering that new content does not give you more levels and stronger than core weapons and armor. It’s just for legendaries (yet these can be made out of HoT content) and skins to be honest. (Until raid gets to legendary armor then it’s another thing).
Along with that, in certain guilds there comes to such thing that some like to call: “Ring of self adoration” (rougly translated) That is formed with players who played for a long time, have a ton of alts and everything geared up to the fullest.
It’s quite a shame as one of the requirements in my guild is to have a few sets of equippement to fit the raid needs along with alternative characters (It’s not that bad though but a little overwhelming yet still, reminds me of vanilla WoW).
I wish to raid, but we all do real life stuff as well and for me it will take a loooong time before I’ll get all that stuff my guildies wish for before I enter this content.
Well I don’t really understand those who say that Guardians do not need passive 25% movement speed (would be nice on minor trait tho) as everyone is using this one argument: perma swiftness… d…kh…duh… I do not find this amusing at all.
If you play in huge WvW zergs and drop perma swiftness, that is alright, but if we talk about PvE and PvP guardians are at a little pigeon holed disadvantage, or perhaps lack some QoL.
For me, 25% swift on aegis would be dangity dang reasonable considering certain classes that have 25% perma swift on minor trait (chrono), placed on a good signet, some other trait. On top of that some of them also have swiftness and even superspeed at their disposal so isn’t it kind of like… not cool? To leave Guardian with a choice that for certain builds is a stab in the performance while others get to run 25% without any or not that significant trade-offs ?
Cause I find it rather tiresome to get ambushed by a player in WvW or a bunch of mobs, or not being able to play to the fullest in conquest due to having staff and shout equipped for that “sweet swiftness” that is irrelevant once the fight begins.
We are slow, and everyone outruns us. If we equip any means necessary for perma swiftness, there is a higher chance of being outmatched in combat due to not being suited with proper utility slot and weapon to fight (TO FIGHT not to sustain ourselves and being a bunker).
One word: TOMES!
This was one of the main reasons (really), that bought my interest in GW2.
Oh imagine the great dissapointment when I saw that tomes were not there on guardian when I got my game :I
BUT! I don’t have much time now to throw in my own idea of tome spec for guardian but what would be really interesting is to make tomes just like engineer kits. Due to that, guardian could be more complex and have more opportunities to undertake as a supportive/offensive/defensive spec (each tome could stand for each aspect).
As for a weapon, I can’t quite tell what could be good… rifle and pistol really do not fit the theme (Longbow is quite good). I guess the only reasonable thing would be an axe main hand or perhaps sword off hand? (you know, zealotry and stuff).
I also had a thought of remaking guardian’s staff to give it a second set of skills that activate only when you equip that certain elite spec, those skills could resemble trident ones as they are truly good (I could say that even better than staff itself).
P.S.
There is a little flame of hope inside of me, that one day we might get those polearm weapons, that would fit guardian so dangity dang good. I cry everytime when I see lionguard spear, it looks so good… it’s so close, yet so far.
I can only imagine a stalwart guardian, rising on top of the battlefield carrying his radiant polearm allowing to strike multiple foes as medium-short distance, while also lying down destruction on enemies and blessings on allies with his tome of righteous magic. (Dang it, I hyped myself so hard)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Polearm
Oh and last but not least. This idea comes from WoW obviously (duh) but it would look so amazingly cool to have an accessory (I’d buy it for any gem price) that is well… a tome hanging on chains just like in this attachment.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Raid is altoholic’s paradise :v
Truly, I understand that GW2 is much different in certain aspects of the game and this is good, really good and I am really happy for it but there are few flaws like everywhere.
There are people that have lots of alts, they have time to play and to level up, equip those alts.
There are people that have one or two characters, they don’t have that much time to play or they just don’t enjoy playing with more characters due to immersion with just one (I do this).
An example:
When I had my fun time back at WoW, I could roll any class and be viable in EVERY SINGLE PART of ALL raids and all raid wings. I had a paladin and I played it for 3 years straight, no alts. I could fit any role, and it was on par with everyone else. It was just a matter of skill, equipement and a way of playing (druid, shaman, priest, paladin… there was a little difference between those classes in healing aspect but it was irrelevant, they all were viable).
Now! GW2 raids force you to have a wide variety of alternative, equipped (best with ascended) and mastered characters which is quite a stab for I guess… rather significant ammount of players.
I know that this is a special dish served by Anet, but it feels discouraging after you find out that due to certain reasons (PvP) your class is nerfed and you can’t do raids unless you spend time and gold to learn to play and equip a new character that is in the “beloved” META (gosh I really dislike this word).
Now if I wish to do raids with my guild, I have to level up a few characters to be flexible and I am certainly (due to IRL stuff) not going to get them leveled up, equipped and mastered anytime soon.
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
I must admit I had priceless moment on my marauder staff tempest this season when everybody was avoiding me thinking I was a bunkerish waste of time only to all die under an unlikely heavy powered meteor shower. There is something terribly satisfying when you defeat an entire meta group with stuff that isn’t.
Ahhh… yes. This is one of the main reasons I play non-meta builds. I won’t say much about my own just so that I don’t spoil the fun for others, but what I play is to deal high close range damage and heavy CC to slow down and even disrupt whole teams.
It is truly amazing how it gloriously works out when my teammates or premade guildies rotate well.
Well I am having quite a laugh as people don’t know what to expect from me in combat.
If build is made properly or is an “off-spring” from meta build, then such non-meta build is sometimes even stronger due to lack of knowledge and enemies don’t know how to fight it and as I said, don’t know what to expect.
The element of surprise in its finest.
- Do you multi class?
If you do not, or cannot efficiently, grinding through leagues with one class is not going to work. Period!
As I’ve progressed through Ruby this season, I’ve noticed that almost every match is won due to swapping to counter a team comp. If we are not bringing the right tools to the job, why should we expect to win.
Every rule has its exception.
I play one and only guardian, and only on one build and on top of that, it is not even meta. If you know your enemy well, certain well played classes with right utilities can bring as much to the table as if multi class player. I don’t do this due to simple reason, I don’t have that much time to learn to play all classes, I choose to master one and that is enough for me and for those that I play with. The rest is up to the good rotations and tactical sense that lies within my team mates.
P.S.
I just made it to ruby and doing dangity dang good. Meta is for those, that are less creative and less flexlible (unless meta build hits their style just right).

By Ogden’s hammer!
This thread is top tier, salvation of guardians that heralds a bright new future.
It has to be kept quality thread for as long as it needs.
I like your name by the way… and nah, he is truly stealthed. My team almost won a match, he was like 1% left and their ele and druid had a hard time healing him up. Then scrapphurr came and did the thing with gyro and bam… no lord, he reveals seconds later and he is healed for quite a chunk :I
Quick question.
Is stealthing a lord ok?
We crave for those sweet fused weapon skins.
I hope it’s not a tough deal to hand those to black lion weapon specialists for one ticket.
Okay I’ve missed one thing, quite important.
It was not a rock that hit him but a searing crystal that fell from the sky and landed next to him, this is when he lost consciousness.
So he got lost in The Mists during The Searing but it still does not hold together because how a tool of death would make him get into the mists?
I guess it would add up if there was more explanation to it, but if there is none then this idea can’t stand on its own just like that, because then we could use Mists to bend lore how we see fit.

I’ll keep it short.
So I do a lot of roleplay and I know a certain person that roleplays as an ascalonian guardian that got lost in The Mists.
The backstory is that his character was an elite guard and during the fall of Ascalon, when King Adelbern cursed his people, that particular soldier got hit in the head with a rock and somehow made it to our favourite foggy place.
He claims that he spent there about 200 years and suddenly popped out of there and showed up in our current timeline, still being a guardian and not a revenant.
My question is: Is this even remotely possible for a human guardian or any living form to get into The Mists through falling rocks and then surviving there for about two centuries without any signs of getting older?
Perhaps Mists stop time and every life process, perhaps Adelbern’s Foefire caused a rift but then I bet there were plenty of unconscious humans lying around that also could have been sucked into The Mists for no particular reason. Give me your thoughts, thanks
I’ll post in this thread instead of making a new one.
I stand before this problem… there are like only two Fused hammer skins left in TP that cost 1999 gold… I’ve begun to save money but I am afraid that before I get those 2k gold, those skins might get sold.
I guess that until these won’t be bought, fused weapon skins won’t return but it does not harm to ask Anet for making those glorious skins return to the ticket store.
True that ^
Well… I am a man that looks for a good story and I play anything that has interesting lore.
I just got really hyped when I thought about such RTS but in GW2 universe.
So I was in Auric Basin the other day, preparing for the last meta event. I was standing on one of the branches overlooking the southern entrance and I looked down at everyone running around, getting ready for the fight. Meanwhile I was playing WarcraftIII to spend time and saw a cutscene that reminded me of the sight from GW2 which I just described.
Then a wild thought appeard in my mind.
Of course I know that it might not work out but what if GW2 had a Real Time Strategy version?
Have you ever wondered how it would be to play the story from the Pact point of view?
You know, 3 forces: Vigil, Durmand Priory and Order of Whispers with unique units that have their very own campaign, meeting later on to form allied forces against Zhaitan and other dragons.
Such game might have linked accounts so that our characters could be shown briefly in the cutscenes or take active part in missions.
I think that it would be dangitty dang great and I’d play the kitten out of it.
What do you guys think ?
So does anyone have a tested build for hammer? Is this dps good or decent?
you cannot compare unranked with ranked , unranked have a even more kittened up matchmaking system.
and as long as arenanet dont remove the 50%winrate for everyone mechanic , the matchmaking will stay bad and the league/leaderboard will be useless.
I did not mean to compare. I did unranked even during season due to bunker meta which was rather unpleasant for me.
Back then unranked was a lot of fun, wide variety of fancy builds that were fun to play and fight against.
Now it got mixed and it feels… odd, I can’t quite tell how bizzare.
Something is strange… for few months of playing pvp I could say my “50% chance” of winning was rather lower and I had more matches lost than won during the day.
Since leagues ended and people roll with unranked then first time in my life I got such a huge winning streak, most of those matches were soloq and two were trio premade with guildies.
For what reason this happened?
I can’t find any fused weapon skins apart from trade post. Perhaps those skins could be brought to gem store. I would buy some skins even if I had to pay like 200 or even 400 gems for one skin. That is how badly I need’em
Oh hi there, I’d like to drop a little something about guardians here so that you may discuss as well. Guards need some more opinions about this and that so that they could get a bit more relevant.
We have this one thread going on for 3 months about hammer:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guardian-hammer-Feedback/first
Aaaand this one which is a meta thread about everything guardian has to offer:

As we all know, class sub-forums are a free talk, but this part of GW2 forum is real business. At first it should be in guardian forum section but I guess we need a bit more attention (warriors too) as class forums are not visited very frequently by devs.

There are lots and lots of stuff we could add to hammer and all seem pretty reasonable from what we see but we should keep it tight because Anet won’t allow guardian’s to have that much fun with their weapons
I guess that for now, 3rd AA should be slower, down to 1 second might be enough (prot from symbol could stack if traited with writ of persistence).
Mighty blow is mediocre at best and to make the most of it we have to make judge’s combo with glacial heart+air+fire sigil (if all proc then it is a beautiful sight to see, yet rare).
Sometimes I think that MB should have an increased cooldown and drop a longer lasting prot field so that we might have it on demand, the other option I saw on my mind is to make MB stack might depending on the number of foes hit (1 enemy – 1 might, 5 enemies 5 might, simple) in a 600 radius so allies also get some of that sweet might. Plus it would synergise well with might on crit trait so we could have a sweet might stacking guardian build.
Banish is also a tough choice, it’s cooldown could be dropped by 5 seconds and made a cone attack to knockback up to 3 enemies, that would bring guardians a lot of disruptive support to the fight, but with such hard CC utility, banish should stay a slow cast (we can always fake-cast to force people to waste dodge).
Zealot’s embrace could have a projectile speed increase and a pull option to it.
Last but not least, ring of warding is what we all are sure of what we want, and that is cast while moving (just like whriling wrath might be enough). Perhaps a 5 seconds of cooldown reduction but that is not necessary.
If every skill had such utilities, then guardian’s hammer might be on par with rev’s and scrapper’s blunt brethren.
As for the trait, I guess that it would be reasonable to make it proc on any hammer attack, every 10 seconds (just like heavy light).
(edited by Rodzynald.5897)
Well, now they can play a more disruptive role. It is quite nice that they got a buff but I am afraid of those premade duos/trios of thieves that CC lock/interrupt the crap out of everyone.
I saw it how one of my teammates with his/her premade partner gave someone such a harsh CC train that even 10 stacks of stab didn’t save that poor guy.
My guess is that warriors could have engineer’s sustain because engies have enough gimmicks to keep themselves alive.
