Crikey that was a lot of bad guys on our borderland last night. Lots of Dz in Bay and heavily defended trebs on the outer walls. Took a few suicide runs to take care of business

5 min vid containing some silliness in WvW followed by some actual proper fights.

The first track is something most in the UK will know, possibly other countries too. The second track is one I wrote for this vid. I had a lot of fun messing around with a vocoder plugin, amongst other stuff.

Sorry you’re having a rubbish time, maybe the new server-matching system will work better for your own preferred style of play.

Sceptical but I’ll wait and see how this pans out before deciding if this is a facepalm or a win.

Daily is usually quite a bit more than 15 mins. Maybe on the high tier karmazergtrain servers it is. Thats not where I play. That said, I often achieve it just by doing my usual WvW activities and it isn’t an issue.

I’m pretty sure Dz were in 2nd place when I saw people starting to report disconnects. I don’t go to EB so it doesn’t affect me. However, before people use that as an excuse, the scores were very close. Its impossible to say with accuracy which way it would have gone if that issue had not appeared.

I know there are issues this week with a few particularly annoying bugs and resulting DCs etc, but looking at the scores and the level of people getting stuck in, its an awesome week.

The scores are not so far apart that one side or another can claim overwhelming superiority. Conversely, no side can claim another is beating by the various less than welcome means (overnight PvD, etc). All these things are factors all the time but things are close enough I believe anyone approaching this matchup with reasonably balanced thinking is forced to conceed that this week is a very decent matchup.

At one point we were sandwiched between RoS and Dz near the sentry on the road just south of Astral, desperately trying to get dollies into Hills. Splat. We came back again and looking across the flatland south of the sentry were massive numbers of enemies sweeping in all around. We have no idea how we survived the ensuing battle, let alone came out on top. On comms, everyone was wondering “Why are we still alive?”

Absolutely epic.

was great. It became Doly Wars 2 for a brief moment.

Had a horrible moment when we finally got a doly into S hills from water and everyone cheered only to find the upgrade still needed 10 more supply and we had to do all the hard work again.

I was chuckling when everyone realised we still needed one more dolly. Seemed a good time to stay off voice comms though

Nighttime/offpeak PvD makes it not fun for some servers as they cannot compete IN their primetime so they are outnumbered and probably in the wrong tier. Conversely those with strong primetime turnouts cannot compete on score and win matchups and are also in the wrong tier in terms of what they put out in the main game playing time of day for their region.

PvD servers get outmanned in prime time but win matchups on their door-hitting abilities. Primetime-focused servers outmanned the bulk of the time but are often not fun for PvD servers to play against because they roll over them in prime time.

So: Change the scoring system, as has been asked for since game launch. Servers will gravitate to levels where players are playing against players and not using a broken scoring system to win each week because they can bash their heads off doors when nobody is around.

Any guilds considering joining Gunnars Hold really should consider Ruins of Surmia first, a community that really is going places. Could almost be thought of as Romani-like in their lust to travel.

Pretty reasonable to not allow enemies to group.

Or if enemies group, disallow accrual of xp, wxp, lootbags, honour badges and remove ability to speak on team, map or local chats while grouped.

I popped into AS BL about 30 mins ago to kill a dolly to finish daily.

The pic shows the view from Redlake. Only one inside the tower was me. There were 2 of our guys outside the front door fighting maybe 5 or so AS. And the contents of the picture attached, just around the corner.

Nicely defended WSR on your BL tonight. We had some great scrapes.

Poor AS, I think when you guys were beating on Briar on WSR (held by us), you suffered possibly the most perfect pincer I’ve ever seen. Admittedly there was a big element of luck in the timing. Didn’t see AS much the rest of the evening but I know AS were busy over in the east from the reports that were coming in.

Managed to keep the pressure up on Bay but with the WSR defender numbers it was pretty clear we weren’t getting that. We made one assault into the lord room but those numbers plus arrowcarts pretty much meant it was a no go. That said, some great scrapes between the inner and outer walls.

Most times what I notice about WSR (as before) is that usually it doesn’t matter who outnumbers or by how much. Everyone piles in to beat the living snot out of each other. Great stuff

In terms of what Tier 1 is suffering atm, its no different from what every other tier has suffered all along. The only difference is no change in matchup because there’s nowhere to rise to once you get to T1.

This is from 29/4/13 and shows Ruins of Surmia completely swamping Gunnars Hold. You do not see us winning a single battle in this video.

However, the video shows what GH do when impossibly outnumbered. Worth sticking with for what happens later in the vid

We earned an insane number of lootbags that evening.

I had a lot of vid recorded but had to get rid of a lot or this video would have been way longer. I kept only the stuff that advanced the ‘plot’.

Logged on yesterday evening and went to Arborstone’s borderland, purely because there were 4 people on comms there and none in our other Mumble BL channels.

Went around skirmishing a bit but got stomped if we tried a stand-up fight because we were outnumbered. We got a few more people as the evening went on and were eventually able to do some proper harm. Outstanding work by the guys at Dawn’s. I was puttering around the map poking my nose into places it didn’t belong while listening to the chatter on comms. Every time you guys had incoming I could sense everyone holding their breath. There’d be a pause for a couple of minutes then a sigh of relief as an attack was beaten off. Great stuff

I think the scoring system needs to be reworked but a reset would just be annoying. A faceroll for several weeks for a few servers, an annoying period of time for the rest…

…just so we can end up exactly back where we are just now.

So no thanks. No tier reset.

Working crazy hours this week. Only getting on, if at all, very late at night, around midnight or so and am usually too knackered to play long. There’s usually stuff going on and its been good fun.

Props to Gwynn and the others running things and keeping our honoured enemies on their toes

Perhaps you haven’t been listening to the general conversation surrounding this topic. The desire is to have an option OTHER than switching servers to obtain map completion. For instance, rotating colors/starting positions would easily solve this and only delay map completion by a few weeks, even for a weak server in WvWvW.

I understand the desire. I’m thinking of the currently available options and practical method to achieve it without ArenaNet devs being involved. Hec, I’d hate to even think of the cost to move there and back again just for something like this.

But if they can’t field a WvW force capable of taking the property and don’t have the wherewithall to make it happen, that looks like the only other currently available option, without waiting until some unspecificed time when a programmed solution becomes available.

Elementalists already have the most powerful anti-zerg skill in the game: static field. It has no target cap and causes AoE stun.

Very easy to avoid if you’re paying attention.

I’d prefer the AoE cap stayed. I remember DAoC and WAR all too well.

Just throwing out a suggestion to make zerging less effective and promoting coordinated server play, how about making supply camps reset ownership after each point tick but then unable to be re capped once captured for the 15 minute period?

Unfortunately, this would amplify the zerg factor. Everyone would be gathering on camps just before the tick.

We called XxX to help us to take back Hills. We were preparing for fight when you took it. We weren’t able to protect hills at this particular moment. And then, you slept on hills, to finnaly, die at bluevale after 1 hour of idiot fight .

There were 2 defenses at Vale. On the first, we got swarmed. I died on the side of the hill and was in a great position to see the RoS swarm. Got it all on video too. We were massively outnumbered by you guys. Good fight, lots of fun, inevitable conclusion. What you can also see on the video is that even after we were all killed, there were still more RoS swarming in. Crazy numbers. Fair play, if you’ve got ’em, use ’em.

I don’t really care if we’re being beaten down by greater numbers. I’ll always look for ways to make the enemy miserable. Because there’s always a way (within game, within the rules and in good spirit). Which leads on to…

…The second defense at Vale. This happened a while later after we did some work around the map. You guys got suckered good and proper. At one point we we were watching RoS valliantly charging up the hill to the treb spot… where there were no trebs. Slaughtered everyone that ran up there, most before they even got halfway.
Then we built another treb just to keep you interested. More fish in a barrel.

Honestly, voice comms broke down with people just laughing. I was in tears laughing when we had our last hold-out at the ram spot (formerly known as the treb spot).

Again, I have video to show that we faced much larger numbers.

Gunnars Hold works with what it has available. You might get the occasional person complaining but by and large our regulars get on with it and have a lot of fun at it.
Its nice to win the points score but when that is unachievable due to a great imbalance, we find other ways to get our fun.

Due to work, I can’t be around much this week. I hope my fellow GH players will face up to the large numbers of RoS with good spirits, devious play and glorious ram defenses.
