Midnight Mayhem
Confirming there aren’t 200 active wvw’rs on WSR at any time
Yeh yeh, they’re just observers for the Empire of Great Kesh :p
This has been linked on the gunnars-hold.eu forums, at least on the shouts. Pretty sure most of our people know about this by now.
I won’t be able to get online until at least 9:30pm that night. Formal attire I think for this. Out of my customary all-black into white. Shame it can’t be a tux. Charr in a tux would look ace
The breakout events are sometimes used as a diversion while more devious skullduggery and general mayhem are propogated.
Played from around 7pm to 10pm tonight (UK time).
Had some good fights and mostly bumped heads with WSR in various places. Started off by pushing RoF back from their breakout event on our BL twice before moving to WSR to assist there. We had people defending Hills, hitting Bay and 4 very nervous people from Nox sneaking through the watergate at garrison.
WSR were closer to taking Hills than I think you realised at one point, we had almost nobody in there until later.
Outstanding job from Nox at Garrison, we only moved in to assist when it was time to take out the lord. Didn’t stick around and didn’t mesmer sweep properly as was shown shortly afterwards when Garrison was retaken.
Good stuff, more to come I hope.
I’m generalising and not talking specifically about Xaoc but after paid transfers are implemented we’ll know who is really with us and who isn’t. I’m rather looking forward to Jan 29th to see who is around me when the dust settles. Some people I know will be.
Meantime, welcome Xaoc to GH, I hope you have a nice time here and can look forward to some good fights. Despite what some say, we are usually outnumbered and fighting here at this time will be a challenge, especially when our matchups change. From the brief chat I had on comms with you guys I don’t think thats an issue for you.
I won’t be around much this week (sadly due to work) but will drop by when I can. While you fight under the GH flag I’m sure you’ll get as much support and help as the community is able, and I hope this will go both ways.
Impressive turnout from WSR tonight. I played from around 7pm to 10pm UK time and we bumped heads quite a lot, mostly on your own borderland.
EDIT: Looks like I had a complete reading comprehension fail. Deleted post

Come out fighting. Good luck all. Lets have some good fights. Also, custard.
Considered this concept some time ago while GH were dropping through the tiers given we are comfortable fighting anyone when the enemy is comfortable fighting against players that are actually logged on. As mischief more than anything to show ArenaNet the stupidity of the duration they’d let free transfers go on for.
Disregarded it then. Disregarding now.
Working as intended. Yes, really.
Sorry you are having internal troubles but free transfers are killing WvW and need to end as wannabe-winners are hopping from one server to the next.
This probably won’t help you but at least you are finding out who is worth sticking with and who isn’t.
The answer to the thread title is of course: Don’t be a zerg – work together and coordinate.
Just call a new server, “The Winning Server” and fairweather guilds from all tiers will go there, leaving the rest of us to get on with good fights
Some of our commanders have swapped focus from our BL into EB encroachment, and tower de-grading this week. The SM attacks have been persistent, and afaik, literally only continue because they are an annoyance lol.
We’re always a threat, since it only takes 10 people to embarrass either side
I think we’ve mostly just been focussed on the ‘kittens n giggles’ this week
When the numbers are so stacked against you I agree thats the kind of guerilla tactics to use. We’ve done stuff ourselves for annoyance factor when we’ve been facing much larger numbers and know we’ve got no chance of winning.
As someone once said, “I aim to misbehave.”
Yeh its dreadful. You’ll never see Gunnar’s Hold selling out like that. One moment, getting a drink.
Ah, WvW with Gunnars Hold sponsored by Coca Cola.
Enjoy Coca Cola. WvW more. On Gunnars Hold. In Nikes.
Re:
Tier 7 / Tier 8
…specifically:
- Actual WvW is lacking.
Even disregarding this as a rather pompous broad sweeping statement, clearly you’ve not been on Gunnar’s Hold this year and merrily post from an uninformed point of view as if you are presenting facts instead of opinions.
Read:
This is true. I have only hopped around NA servers, I probably should have made that more clear. Maybe EU plays much differently but I doubt it.
Your server sure must be some low-tier mecca. Why do I see so many posts about it yet you’re still T7?
Lower in numbers than many and relatively no nightshift does not equate to “no actual WvW”. The other servers in these tiers fight like bears at prime time too. So you’re posting uninformed opinions as if they are fact.
You could argue that there is a lower level of activity but not that broadsweeping nonsense.

Paid server transfers are long overdue, so fundamentally I disagree with the original post. However, if paying for it, I think you should be also able to move a guild so you don’t lose what you’ve built.
That should be a lesson to WSR for next week. If we see you in numbers somewhere outside your border, we’re coming to mess your kitten up. I promise.
/facepalm
Threatening the underdogs that you’re pretty much guaranteed to outnumber in a matchup. Not awesome. Don’t go claiming the “I was only joking” get-out-of-jail-free either, its just not funny how few resources WSR have compared to the other servers in this matchup.
What I’m reading in the original post is someone who isn’t involved in the comms for the people who are making WvW really happen on the server they play on. Maybe the server they play on doesn’t organise well.
I’d suggest getting onboard with the people who organise properly and being involved in making things happen. It is such a game changing experience.
Seeing as we’re doing the DAoC comparison, Darkness Falls anyone?
Man do you remember all the pve people who would show up in DF when your realm took it. I would look around at them and be like “who are you and why are you in my dungeon”.
The fights when control of DF flipped were hilarious. People desperately finishing off mobs and trying to get those fights finished, while watching their backs for the inevitable enemy zerg chasing through the dungeon. Wiping enemy farming/XP by sessions by pulling loads of epic mobs onto them. Interrupting enemy boss fights by killing their healers and then standing back and watching the fun. Good times
Thanks!
Now I must find a way to hit 50 people with a ram.
Omnomberry Pie under gate. Push ram off top onto greedy zerg. The pie may not be recoverable so I don’t know if its worth the supply.
Looks like realm ranks to me. And adding into the game about the same time into go-live I think that they added realm ranks into DAoC
A couple of rather epic defenses at Briar on our own BL to finish off an evening of gently ambling around (for me anyway, WvW goes on of course). Really thought RoF had us on that second attempt. You guys pushed right the way into the lord room and there were only a handful of us left. I think I was rallying more than Sébastien Loeb.
This is a non-issue. Profession is not a factor in the slightest. Build in lots of defense/survival to your spec and you’re good to go.
I rather like the idea of having to kill the guards first. Adds value to spending the money on the upgrade.
Had my lvl11 mesmer out around teatime yesterday doing skill points with a couple of other guys and we got jumped while fighting the skill point mob.
Got my first WvW kill and honour badge on my baby mesmer \o/
:D
It’s funny to me how many people comment on this thread and don’t realze tanks are actually in the game already.
As a driveable vehicle in WvW with space for a gunner?
I played after reset on Friday, had fun supporting our team and stayed up way later than I should. Saturday popped on at random at times and lots of activity in all the BLs. Sunday evening for the last session of the weekend there were some good fights too.
In each case, RoF seemed to be everywhere, often outnumbering us. Didn’t see much of WSR but those times we did the fights were fun.
Tanks, airships and submarines. Love it
Tanks as a Breakout thing would be a very cool thing indeed.
They came across in a Charr Pact Tank, parlez vouz.
They came across in a Charr Pact Tank, parlez vouz.
They came across in a Charr Pact Tank,
One to drive and two to w… uh, shoot the guns.
Inky pinky parley vouz.
I understand the frustrations of the original poster but I disagree with the proposed solution.
If we accept that WvW populations on each server are never going to be exactly congruous a better way to deal with it would be to have some kind of reward system that benefits a WvW team beyond getting the highest score each week. Perhaps guild rewards for getting a lot of influence, or for having held a keep a long time. These are just examples off the top of my head, I haven’t thought them completely through so they are probably full of holes or would need a lot of refinement.
We [OS] will not move from WSR for now. This week will be really bad with all the guilds leaving, but sometimes we love to be the underdog. We had some nice fight, mine gank team managed to survive some 1:2 and 1:3 too.
Sadly, we can do nice fight but this can’t stop a massive zerg to take the tower/camp whatever.
I always have had the highest respect for WSR. Not a compliment I hand out often. The fair weather friends that left GH know this already.
………………… All you Blacktide people are fkin clowns. The best possible choice would have been tiers slightly above bottom tier. Those servers are much more competetive and their balance would not be so broken by large guilds moving in to them. At least they would have a safety next to drop or climb the ladder to balance out.
Choosing the bottom tier is just stupid as it just destroyed any balance we ever had. Now both RoS and Vabbi have huge numbers due to BT rejects and this leaves FoW where? This is already a ghost server and now WvW is an aspect of the game that has become null and void because there is no way possible to fight.
So both your alliance and xaoc’s motive was to make a pure WvW server. Well done for splitting up and picking 2 servers. I can clearly see that the people behind this are pure kitten Want to make a pure WvW server? just go to 1 server then. No brainer really.
This is just a bunch of rejects trying to justify their invasion by trying to claim it is a noble act. Remember the Romans?
Where does this leave FoW? a ghost server that is now unplayable in WvW. Thanks.
I don’t think its about competition but about control: control of the server they go to. Higher up the tiers I suspect they believe they’ll meet more resistance to rolling in as the big boss. Servers perceived as weak they believe they can dominate since they probably think they’ll be moving in to take over.
Kuper thats pretty much the situation GH have been in. We’re only now starting to turn it around. Its still too early to say for sure we have turned it around.
The first week of continuous play in the new structure is nearly over. Its too early to tell how successful it will be long term but bumping this for any GH players or guilds that are looking to get together with the larger team.
I would also like to take this opportunity to invite previous emmigrants from GH that had a track record in working well with the community to send observers back here and see if the changes might make it worth your while to come back home. We won’t be able to grant access to the strategy and planning but you are welcome to fight alongside and check out the changes the community have worked hard to put in place.

What I don’t get about GH is how they keep saying how fun and balanced this matchup is but spend the entire week trying to recruit guilds from their opponents which would basically unbalance it…
And its pretty much a given that the whole Vabbi story will totally unbalance the entire ranking again as Xaoc seems to enjoy spending 2 months fighting 10:1 and making WvW into a wasteland for their oponnents as the matchup is decided 12 hours into it.
A large part of the GH WvW community has undergone a major change in the way we approach WvW in recent weeks. I don’t think our numbers are that big but what we’re doing with those numbers is new. In a large number of fights I’ve found us fighting greater numbers against RoF or WSR and quite often winning.
Regarding XAoC, we’ve faced them before. They’ll win on the nightshift and probably steamroll us during the day with big numbers but as always we will still hit the battlefield and fight without qualm. Slightly ironic they have moved given it was them that were enticing guilds away from GH some months ago.
You’ve just rolled in with four golems on the back of this dude glitching. All our siege def had gone, canons gone from the inner wall… Too right I’m gonna tar you. Especially after reporting it on here and you STILL go mob handed into there, after I report one of your servers players glitching in repeatedly. How much less honourable do you want to get??
He was spotted by other players doing it, I had a ranger/necro/thief fighting alongside him on the wall side. One of them was in a recognised guild (the name of which escapes me now so I’ll save the names
).
Just sickened. I knew Hills would be on the cards for someone tonight. But to take it like that is just garbage.
If you PM a screenshot, we’ll investigate. We don’t want these people.
Yay, another server reset with almost no warning.
Now cannot log back into game at all :/
I would be very surprised if it was not a new currency, possibly able to purchase by selling an extremely high number of honour badges thus thwarting those that are currently saving.
Good fun in RoF borderland. The defense at Bluebriar was a bit of a chuckle, crazy number of lootbags. Got steamrolled quite a bit most elsewhere by lots of numbers but still good fun
I reckon Julius Caesar, Alexander The Great and Napoleon are in the top 5.
Rommel, Mountbatten, Xenophon and Ghengis Khan I think get honourable mentions.
To this day I cannot see any good reason for Jar Jar Binks having been made a general. Thank goodness its probably Lawrence Kasdan writing the next Star wars film and not George Lucas.
Back on topic: Custard.

I was only on for about an hour last night. Great fun at Hills on our own borderland. Lots of enemy siege defending the lord room but persistance and some nice portals fixed that.
Its nice not getting roflstomped and crazily large numbers, even though RoF seem to have a large blob that moves around maps like a Dyson vaccum cleaner
I feel a bit sorry for some of Dz. The guys that play fair are getting tainted regularly by the ones that cheat because the cheaters proceed unopposed and without being dealt with ArenaNet. I dropped by this thread because I was interested to see if this playstyle continued after their matchup with us on GH.
Not sure why my previous post shows only a smiley. There is text there. In case it was something silly locally, I edited and reposted on 2 different PCs with 2 different OS’s. Same result
Anyway, reposting:
Good fun in EB tonight. Don’t normally go there but that fight at the Stonemist keep lord was ace. Got online just after 9pm so I was there for the tail end of the fight. RoF trying to hide upstairs. WSR amd RoF attacking from different directions at the same time downstairs. Great fun

So on IoJ yesterday, we had a breather in the early evening. We took the opportunity to start upgrading and stocking Bay for the attack that would surely come. And it did.
And as we’re defending, a person who doesn’t frequent WvW (I at least recognize most of the names out there by now) comes into the keep, builds a golem, marches it out the gate and bails out. I reported him and tried to call him out on his actions, but he just said “I’m having some fun” and to get a life.
How do you handle this type of sabotage? Is it just “part of the game”? Is it a bannable offense? What’s to stop me or someone else from having another account just to do this type of thing?
Can we get a better reporting option?
Right now it’s something like selling gold, scamming, botting, or inappropriate name – none of which really fall into this category.
Hard to prove thats griefing. The guy could just be new to WvW, have got his hands on a golem blueprint but picked the worst possible time to try it out. If you think its griefing, report to ArenaNet so they can track the guy and see if he builds up a history of doing that, in which case it becomes provable he’s griefing.
On its own though, this is just muppetry. Annoying as hell, but just muppetry.
Loading screens are longer than our queues on Gunnars Hold.
Wait what?
This is a shout-out to Gunnars Hold players.
Recently some of us have begun a restructuring of the way many of our guilds interact for WvW. However, we are well aware that a lot of guilds putter out to WvW and don’t generally interact with others, thus lessening their own enjoyment of WvW probably without even realising it. What we’ve begun doing is changing the entire structure of our organised WvW. Details obviously can’t be shared here but this seems like a very good time to try and bring more of our good people into WvW alongside their server buddies.
I’d like to invite GH-based guilds that tend to stick to themselves to dive into the wider community, with shared comms based at gunnars-hold.eu. Although it is mostly used for WvW, it also has areas for PvE and sPvP. Why bother if your guild is only PvE’ing? Because it means you can simply switch channel to tune in to WvW and maybe you might find you want to join in. It also means its very quick to switch if you’ve finished whatever guild events or dungeoneering you might have going on and feel like some random mayhem. Also, there are regular PvE events (mining runs etc) that are organised through these comms.
Most of the time, the WvW comms is very relaxed and a good laugh. There are times when great focus is needed so the banter gets throttled back a bit in favour of stopping all those pesky loot bags from running around (picking them up is sooooo much easier when they are forced to remain still). To date, we’ve not had any issues.
This post is not just to invite the PvE’ers. As mentioned, those that are already out and about in WvW or even solo players that feel a bit left out at times would probably greatly benefit from seeing the wider picture. By being involved in the comms, you get the wider picture and a greater sense of involvement. You’ll probably also get more loot bags by the expedient of having greater knowledge of what is going on immediately around you. Guild size is not an issue. We have guilds that field 1 player per night and those that field 30.
The more we communicate the better we can exterminate.
