When I woke up today I was still grinning. Setting up that ram at the treb spot in vale, then when Ros portalled in they started attacking it. One of the funniest moments of my gaming career to date.

Hadn’t planned on doing WvW tonight, even though its normally what I focus on. I’d decided to knuckle down to getting world completion. Oh gawds that is one tedious method towards getting legendary. Caved in when Visko poked on guildchat. WvW just so much way more fun.

Gwynn was leading and I had a great time following along and nuking whatever I was told. Some immense fights and great moves. Gwynn sadly got tired after having delivered for rather a long time.

Arguably this is where I come in. Or more accurately, where I failed to step back as far as the other guys that didn’t want to lead.

Also, I have video that proves you guys run as a massive entity, all through the evening. I’m not complaining about it, I think its fine. Just don’t ever complain if we coordinate/consolidate.

Respect to all we fought tonight, I had an immense time. Lost some, won some, giggled some.

It almost seems off topic to salute the peeps in the great fights we’ve had this week. I’m just back from the pub, awaiting the delivery of a kebab but hopefully logging in soon to roll my face along the keyboard for reset giggles

This post aimed at no individual, its a general comment.

People can brag as much as they want and snipe in petty ways. That is after all a lot of what happens on forums. There’s some of it from all sides, none of us is innocent.

Thing is, no matter what is thrown at us next week, GH will step up. GH will deliver the best possible with the resources available. Doesn’t matter how big the army/blob/zerg/borg, we’ll work with what we’ve got and find ways to do the unexpected. And we might get roflstomped regardless

See, never having really had huge numbers we’ve had to rely on something else.

‘Brains’ you’re thinking. Nah, its beer. Frothy, lovely, bubbly nectar of the gods.

We log on. We fight. Sometimes we lose. Sometimes the goliaths get a shock. The community remains. And its only the community that matters because from that all else comes. And beer.

Think of Gunnars Hold as an evil proctologist holding a cattle prod.

I’ve enjoyed the fights versus Surmia this week.

However, given the very large increase in its WvW population in recent days my preference would be for them to go up a tier immediately as next week will not even be remotely interesting fights. It will just be superblobs roflstomping all over maps.

Played WvW for about an hour last night on our borderland. Smashing fun. Mahoosive numbers of RoS

I started off at Garrison, scouting the RoS blob moving east to west through the water. This would have been just after 9pm UK time. I was amazed I wasn’t spotted and killed. I commented on this on voice comms and the responses was “They probably aren’t interested.”

At that point I thought, “Holy Kitten… ITS THE BORG!”

Anyway, coming out the water, RoS blob at sentry between Bay and Garrison, RoS move up from sentry to left of slope up to SW gate, I’m relaying on comms. Our guys push out into the blob.

It looked awesome, both armies rushing into each other. And I got it all on video
I came running up from the water, so hopefully I’ve got some nice vid of the battle. I’ll check over the weekend.

For a while afterwards I was at the bottom of the SW gate to Garrison, watching the RoSborgblob. They moved around like a flock of birds. There’d be a few stragglers then a massive forming up. Got some great vid of the various attempts to push forward after balling up bottom of the slope.

Shortly after the battle at Bay I logged, knackered. That was a seriously big swarm of red. Epic fight, good response from RoS. The vid I got was not great. Essentially it is a few minutes of me dying and rallying. Not exactly epic viewing

For those from GH hankering after Dz to fight, this is from a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time I ran with MM and as usual, I was late to the party due to work etc. Nothing particularly fancy, just an assault on Hills with golems.

I saw some RPS guys in the vid but its mostly MM here. Unusually for one of my vids, its a single fight, not a montage.

Although there’s a lot of overlap, I suppose it will be different things to different people. Personally, I don’t do much PvE, usually only when levelling alts plus daily. I’ve checked out the dungeons, some guild missions, occasionally done the seasonal events but not interested in farming.

WvW is the only sustainable interest for me in GW2 and is the only reason I came to the game in the first place. Originally I wasn’t going to play until some old DAoC/WAR peeps got in touch and pointed out that it looked like someone might just have got 3-way epic combat as close to properly done as any company has in recent years.

There’s things wrong with WvW but overall it pretty much delivers a decent experience.

I don’t tend to WvW on alts much. Bit of fun at times but I prefer fighting at an equal level and I find the lack of abilities and inadequacies of gear rather limit me to following around a clump of players and usually hanging at the back, which isn’t my kind of playstyle at all. Preference and choice I guess

Heh, I’m having some of the best fun in WvW this week that I’ve had in a while and in general I enjoy WvW most of the time anyway.

There are issues in WvW but not gamebreaking by any manner of means.

Had a lot of fun on RoS BL tonight with Catinka leading.

Nice push out from Hills from RoS when we were coming up to the inner gate. Splat.

Highlight for me was probably the fight at Woodhaven when RoS came in behind us while we were taking the lord down. Revenge was had. There was a lot of kittentastic AoE on my screen

Won a few, lost a few, recorded a few. When I remembered to.

Storming good fun. Really enjoying the fights this week. Partly because I’m getting to actually join in and work not getting in the way

Exploding Sheep. One of the few things from WoW that I’d love to see in this game.

I don’t PvE a huge amount (other than levelling alts) but I do like the option to putter off at times and do something different, even if my game time is largely WvW.

So, no. I wouldn’t like it to be a separate game. There’s stuff like Planetside 2 and the upcoming Mechwarrior for stuff like that if I want 100% PvP/WvW/RvR.

If you’re commanding, you don’t need to be tanky.

If you’re wearing a commander tag, you need to be tanky.

Its important to know the difference and when each is appropriate.

I was in our Garrison yesterday evening. Hadn’t been doing much the previous hour except chatting to one or two realm buddies and only really got active just before 8pm (UK time)… just as RoS hit the watergate and came puttering upstairs looking for cookies. We served them hot

But thats ok, the visitors came back almost immediately.

The next 2 hours went in pretty fast, it was lots of fun. I puttered around following Riki’s tag, generally getting in the way. Got some nice vid too

I’ll watch quietly to see how commanders behave. If they are decent and not obnoxious I’ll support them. I’m fine with people making mistakes (I make enough of my own when leading). Its always better to have some direction rather than none, even if its not optimal.

Oh hell yes. Some big fights, some small fights, lots of stuff in between. Kinda feel a bit sorry for the blob tiers, but not that sorry. You makes your bed etc.

Had some fun on Sunday morning, taking back property, after which taxi’d some peeps through JPs with my baby mesmer.
Puttered off to do other things then logged in on Sunday afternoon and had some great fights.

Cheers to Faab for leading in the afternoon, nice job and a good example to anyone else that wants to learn how to do it – no insults or terse comms, no blaming when things don’t work out, just getting on with it in a positive manner.

Wasn’t around Sunday evening but from general scuttlebutt seems like people having a good time with some nice fights. Looking forward to more as the week goes on

Spying is a form of griefing and therefore covered by the game rules, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, enforcing this is pretty much impossible so its down to each server to counter it the best way they can think of.

Accounts used for forums and voice comms are not easily linked to game accounts and the chance for misdirection is high. ArenaNet or any other game provider will not (can not) take the risk they would accidently ban legitimately playing players and potentially get themselves in hot water – the media would have a field day with this.

Short of someone coming onto the official forums and using their game account to admit they’ve been doing this kind of griefing, ArenaNet have nothing they can use as an admission of guilt.

And nobody is stupid enough to do that, right?

Its not the very latest video I’ve fraps’d in game but I wanted to get this stuff done before doing the next one, which includes some nice stuff with Midnight Mayhem the other night.

If people on GH love open field, sign up for Xcores when I’m running them. I always try to get a few open field fights in an evening, in amongst the other mayhem.

I’ve just about finished my next WvW vid. The first half is me pretty much making a kitten of myself. In the second half though there’s a nice bit of openfield versus Dz between Longview and Garrison.

In DAoC, loot pickup was changed so it just went straight into your inventory. Ok, not a reality based system, but we’re talking about a world where wizards are flinging bolts of magicalnukage around, so not exactly breaking the suspension of disbelief here with something as small as this. Also, less stuff to draw on an already crowded battlefield.

Good fun last night on the Dzagonur borderland.

All servers would welcome tasty chocolate bars. You should look no further than Gunnars Hold. The whine is always medium, not too sweet, not too bitter.

All servers have zergs at times, its the nature of the game. So not going to lie, on GH you’ll see large scale stuff going on. A trio would be the perfect special ops team, and we like that kind of thing. The servers we are facing this week and probably next also have lots of small scale stuff as well as larger. Might suit you, might not.

We have some guilds that specialise in small scale stuff but if you decide to pop by, we can chat about it at that point. If not, good luck wherever you putter off to.

Er, ok. I just materialised about a mile up in the air and back to a loading screen. I’m almost excited to see what happens next.

Tried to log in mid evening. Horrendous lag made it unplayable yet there was hardly anyone moving around on the map. Most times just fails to even log in to WvW and after a few minutes kicks me back to previous zone.

Tried a bit later, got in for a few minutes. Switched toon, did a guild rush, then tried to log back in to WvW. Fails again. Pretty nasty, needs to be sorted.

Swirling Winds is the most boring game mechanic ever. I hate it.

Last night was quite fun. I was on GH BL the whole time I played.

I was nuking the snot out of that Omega Golum. We knew the tower was a lost cause with the numbers on us, we just wanted that thing dead. Surprisingly I made it out alive, more by luck than good judgement. I was knocked out of the back of the tower onto a ledge and had so few hitpoints left that I had to wait a while before I could safely jump the rest of the way. A tense moment

I was there when we lost Briar a bit later too. And I was also back to nuke the trebs that were beating on Bay. We retook Vale a bit later and I managed to kite some baddies up onto the Bay guards. Very funny. I’ve got video of that. Retaking Briar was very funny too, but I’m not going to post why. We might want to do that again some time. And no, it didn’t involve cheating.

Hills. Now there was some epic fun. There were only a handful of us to begin with when RoF came swarming up and it was a real struggle to get things back under control until reinforcements could arrive. Even then, we seemed to not quite have the numbers to kick the interlopers back out. There were some great fights back and forth along the walls.
Nice treb positioning, nearly caught us out.
When the Supply hit zero, I thought we might not hold out, but we did.

Good times.

Aye they’ve added gold to the price to buy, but they’ve dropped the badge cost.

The gold cost is not too high and it means that more casual players that PvE quite a bit can get gear earlier without having to slog so much.

Many months ago I agreed with preventing commander chat suppression. Now I don’t ever want to see it removed.

All the PvE commanders who may be great at sorting some Lost Shore encounter I don’t care about turn up in WvW with a sense of entitlement that I’m grateful they face the same restrictions as everyone else who logs on to WvW for the first time. Its great that they found the Great Google Tome Of Commanding and and all, but I only look for names that I’ve seen showing up and making sense week in week out.

The tag means nothing. Until its on someone that means something.

The people who turn up no matter what gets thrown at them. The people who keep at it, even when the others split, quit or just want it made easier for them.

Sunday night played for a while. I logged on just after we’d lost most of the GH BL. It was fun getting it back. I logged off after we’d turned the map back to its appropriate colour.

Cheers to Waanderer for wearing the blue hat of doom, and also to the others that were leading here and there.

There were some good scrapes. As usual, heaps of FSP everywhere I looked. I felt like a cop in a doughnut factory. Om nom nom. Don’t read too much into that, I did my fair share of dying too.

Bay Lord Room fight was rather good and I seem to recall some rather epic battling at Vale. Good stuff. Work will stop me playing much this week but I’ll be around when I can to lower the average IQ on the GH side.

Tybalt is the only NPC in the story quest whose voice acting and character didn’t make me wince. Even taken on its own, this is good characterisation and decent voice acting. Most of the rest are embaressing at best. Even Zoija is only marginally above the ARGH factor and kudos to Felicia Day for making it so because you can’t credit the script.

Smart companies do not kill off their enjoyable characters, especially if they only have a few.

Lets crystalise this. How many GW2 story characters do you remember and like? Tybalt, possibly Zoija and lets face it, thats about it. The rest are remarkable only in their blandness.

For a supposed triple A product, Anet missed the boat on the thing that draws us in the most: the characters.

I know some choices will make me wince but thank feck for monthlies without those dratted dungeons.

I would be disappointed. However, while there is still beer and pizza in the world I don’t think it will cause me to jump off a ledge any time soon.

I thought we had a chance of a first-hit at Hills on your borderland but we weren’t fast enough getting in. Very good response times from FSP. Also we were running as two teams but versus the numbers we were facing on hindsight we should probably have abandoned any attempt at that type of thing and just ran as one unit.

Well played at Foghaven FSP, good use of portal and lag (I’m not being sarcastic). We couldn’t see you until the trebs were demolished and our guys were dying.

Some rather epic fights at Bay on our own borderland too. I do have a question though. On the first attempt, you guys were inside the Inner Keep. You balled up as if about to portal to lord room. Then a few minutes later a lot of you just ran out and we killed the rest. What happened there?

Regardless, an interesting evening’s play. There were definately a few times where FSP outplayed us (not just outnumbering, actually outplaying). But there were also some times were you got suckered good and proper too .

If you are lvl80 and level up 3 times from xp in WvW, will that get you your daily skill points? Might be a bit of a struggle though from the xp requirement.

I do all my ‘Event’ requirements in WvW usually. I find it actually easier than doing them in PvE.

Still, it does seem biased towards forcing you to do PvE.
