Midnight Mayhem
Pretty much what Gahn said
Underworld is much cooler name! ;P I dont think OP ment anything bad and I indeed see it as a compliment. May I ask wich battles made you think we are that awesome?
I can’t really argue about the name thing
I’ve not really fought Underworld this week so not personally in a position to comment on good fights between GH and UW. Its the kind of chat that usually comes up at Nidhogg’s weekly washup with the servers that are matched up against us.
Woah easy guys. No need to get your noses out of joint. If anything Vincavec gave you guys a compliment and I think if nothing else it should be taken as such. Certainly there was no mention of things like “Just give up” and really no need for the petty sniping.
Personally I’ve not really fought Underworld this week – partly due to work and partly because Drakkar or defense have been my focus the couple of nights I’ve played. Hopefully some of you will join Nidhogg’s weekly washup this evening on Mumble comms, can chew the fat over some of the great (or not so great) fights we’ve had this week
Free transfers gut servers.
This more than anything.
ArenaNet have messed up royally with this. It has not given communities time to grow and get over difficult bumps in the road. Those that must win at all costs leave as soon as the chips are down. The bandwaggoners look for the main chance and hop servers.
I don’t see the situation being recoverable for servers with declining populations, I think ArenaNet have already left it too late to close off free transfers, they may as well leave them in permanently now. This of course will never be admitted.
Thats a lot of Germans! I don’t think at any point (other than a couple of supply camps) we faced less than twice our number and it was usually 3-4 times our number this evening. Despite that, had a good profitable evening.
Running with outmanned buff as the evening wore on, a good indication of the difference in populations. Noticed that there were a few DL that knew what they were doing but for the most part I suspect DL peeps were running on lowbie alts (probably confident from being so used to outnumbering us). We cut through quite a lot like butter. At various times the DL zerg was not rendering on my screen so I couldn’t even see what was going on other than the clue given by my health bar dropping rapidly.
Ultimately though, the huge difference in numbers was the deciding factor and not really a lot we could do about that.
Some very fine coffee brands also come from Kenya, which would compliment the 24/7 nature of WvW perfectly. SoS should seriously look at this.
Yeah, I mean the problem is not that they have to interupt WvW. It’s more of how abruptly they decide to do so
(Apologies for snipping second half of last sentence, its not relevant to my reply)
This is the crux of it. I don’t think anyone is against applying new builds that fix nasty bugs and exploits, just the manner in which it is delivered without any customer courtesy. There’s been a lot of complaints from players on Gunnars Hold over things like this. Quite often we’ve just deployed a lot of expensive siege just to be informed the server is going down in 3…2…1…
Personally I don’t think players should be able to get into enemy spawns. Although normally I don’t care for people complaining about being camped or the jump puzzle crying, spawn points need to be kept free of enemy players. At least, internally. Let lazy badge farmers hang around an exit if they wish, there are always two other exits to use if needed and refusing to use them is willful stupidity.
If enemies could access spawn points then players zoning in would be farmed to death and it would lead to major problems in WvW. So no, enemies should continue to have to work for their badges and not be able to access spawns.
When the original post was originally posted, there was absolutely no indication of why SoS was recruiting players specifically from India. My original response gently poked fun at this lack of clarity.
I avoided the obvious pitfall of looking for quality curry recipes, free tickets to see East Bengal FC, etc and went for something that is a source of economic growth for that fine country. Note also not even the merest SNIFF off a Slumdog Millionaire reference.
If you want to play on a Tier 1 server, wining and dining on someone else’s success, sure, go to SoS. If you want to play on a Tier 500 server, come to Gunnars Hold. Cheap laughs, cheap booze and cheap women*. In unrelated news, custard.
*This is not as sexist as it first sounds. Most of our hotties readily admit they work for chocolate cake. Some of them even are female.

Enemies are just loot bags that haven’t been collected yet. Real Estate matters, players of any enemy server are just temporary obstacles. Their realm matters not.
Also, custard.
Gunnars Hold is just the name of the server we play on.
The team behind that name is awesome. Am I proud of the server name? Hell no, its a stupid name. I’m proud of the team I play with.
For reference, by team, I mean the people that stick together when things get tough.
I set up shop in Garrison yesterday evening after we’d retaken it from the DL Teatime Zerg. TDA and others I think were primarily responsible for that – I was a bit of a Johnny Come Lately as I was escorting dollies at that time. I didn’t move out of Garrison much until I logged off around 9pm UK time. Claimed it for Ancient Shadows and loaded up the buffs. Big thanks primarily to Padmay and Jessopia for upgrades and assistance. Generous help very much appreciated.
There were 2 DL attempts to take it in that time, both beaten off mercilessly thanks to very fast responses from our lads and lasses when the people on guard duty put out the call. Similarly an attempt on Dawn’s was sent into disarray just as I was on my way back to Garrison with supply.
Got some nice video in Garrison of DL trying to kill us by weighing us down with lootbags on the stairs just after the watergate.
Really need to stop being so lazy and put some of my recent footage into a proper vid but I don’t really want to do much before the community video project
your server has brought up everything they had and we blew you everytime out of the map.
Thats the spirit! And nicely its pretty much how I feel about you guys the last time we met on the battlefield too.
See you in the battlefield.
Looking forward to it.
7. servers that get a huge influx of bandwagon guilds, and think they came up the ranks on their own skill and abilities, and puppy talk how bad they are facerolling everyone.
This made me chuckle
This is an ongoing issue that most Commanders agree with from what I’ve seen.
Many get around it by having a ‘comms officer’ help with typing commands and information.
For this reason, I should have called my commander toon Boskone so that minions could say on /t “I speak for Boskone.”
Yes, its lame and yes its geeky
Primarily due to work, I’ve not been fighting in this match-up yet. Hopefully going to make up for some of that as the week goes on. Looking forward to seeing both enemy servers on the battlefield
Also, custard.
I’d rather see guild progression from WvW than individual progression.
I’m not a fan of individual progression as the driving force as it brings all the selfish Big I Am type players out and thats rather the bane of community driven PvP.
I’ll never understand the mentality that the jumping puzzles should be a free source of badges and siege, rather than an extension of the PvP map.
Bang on. Its another area to terrorize your enemies. I would never bother to camp the areas but I don’t care if people do.
Siege in supply camps… good fun. Makes assaulting the camp fun. Makes defending it against muppets… profitable.
I would only be against siege weapons in cheaty places. Thats just not cricket.
I’ve made a couple of vids and uploaded them but also not seeing embeds, just links. Most recent was https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/fangen/Video-Wild-Teengs/first#post892547 and its just showing up as a link rather than embedded video. If there’s something I’m doing wrong, I’d appreciate a pointer.
..because WvW is srs bsns:
:D
When I started working on the music (not the tennis music at the start of the vid), it was going to be a cover version of this:
..but I ended up changing it so much it was essentially a whole new song. And no, I don’t know why I did it in a Jamaican-ish accent either. Possibly because no real Jamaicans were available. And it made me giggle.
The voice comms chatter is real voice comms chatter and explains some of what is going on. I structured the video and the song as I worked on both simultaneously. The structures therefore are intertwined and related. This means there was ‘space’ so that the voice comms stuff is more easily heard in the overall mix.
I hope you get a chuckle out of it.
EDIT: Not sure why the Youtube vids won’t embed, time to look for some help around the forums.
Found a nasty bug in EB tonight a short while ago. Myself and one other have reported it and won’t repeat our accidental discovery. We backed off immediately. Apologies to the AG guys on the receiving end, it was as much a surprise to us as to you.
I’m not sure if the keyboard command is processed by the OS and sent to the game, or if the game processes the keyboard command and shuts itself down.
If the game does the processing, then the player should be allowed to lamequit but with a 30 minute penalty on returning to WvW to their account (note account not character). I’m fine with the penalty being higher.
If the game-close command comes from Windows as a generic command then that is harder to process because sometimes the GW2 client may well receive a legitimate command to shut down (such as when automatic updates decide to reboot your PC at exactly the wrong time). Not sure how you would code around this without risking penalising genuine fair-players that don’t abuse the interface in such a way. Perhaps in such a case I’d still give the reward to the killing player and penalise the linkdead player with their repair bill. You’d get occasional frustration when someone gets an accidental disconnect but you’d stop the gamesmanship.
Things like the outmanned situation need to be tackled separately from this, so that outnumbered servers/players are not discouraged from participating in WvW. I’d reduce the repair cost as part of the outmanned buff, possibly reducing it to zero if the numbers are significantly different. That way its still worth going out to heroically face the enemy even if you are very likely to get creamed. I’d reduce honour badges though to prevent planned farming.
PS What happened with Roo’s post about honour among penguins? It was the best one in the whole thread.
It was removed and I was infracted. I will try to be a more upstanding citizen on these forums. I have learned the error of my wicked ways and will no longer pour scorn on the clever players that have successfully incorporated legitimate keyboard combos into their playstyle.
Not sure I’m wubb v wubb tonight, promised guildies I’d help with a dungeon. Hopefully will get out for some face-smashing at some point
If I can get enough video between now and Friday I’ll put together a compilation of some of this week’s fight’s over the weekend hopefully.
Well it looks like WR won`t won this one ;-) anyway we had some good fight as well, some days ago GH guys had time to learn our flag [VAR] on their bay, 5 hours during main time
yesterday we were there as well, but this times the guys/girls where more prepared
– unpolite guys at all, they put flags to the visitors, hey and what abut hospitality?
AG have much more player the us, but we caused some harm to them as well ;-)
One bad thing that I have to mention. I saw more and more exploit use on WvW, I hope this trend will end soon.
Sorry to say I don’t think I’ve met your guys this week at all so far. Working until mid evening and not on until quite late (9:30ish onwards).
Nidd usually runs a weekly washup on a Friday on comms and we chew teh fat with enemy servers over the good fights of the week and generally giggle. Would be good to see some WR peeps there.
Tixx’s Floater
(fnar fnar)
It really depends on what would suit the emmigrating guild. If you want a quick win, then go to a high tier server.
If your guys want a challenge then look further down where a server has a gap in what they deliver in terms of 24/7 play. Long term you’ll also be able to take more credit in that server’s success, instead of perhaps being seen as a Johnny-come-lately on an already prospering server.
We’ve had a smaller US guild recently join us on Gunnar’s Hold, they seem to be having a good time. Actually, there was Yank whoopage last night on voice comms so I think we’re doing it right (Bluevale, around I think 10pm UK time, we’re holding it and enemy building siege outside. We timed an assault on their rear at the same time as we pushed out from Vale onto them. It was a massacre).
So yeh, based on the original post GH may suit if thats what you’re after
Yay made it home from work in time.
Played WvW from around 9:30pm UK time to maybe 11:55pm. It was suggested we come to AG’s homeland and say hi. So that we did and I switched on the badge. Usually I won’t unless no other commanders appear but I was feeling saucy (You need to say that in a Mike Myers voice a la Wayne’s World).
Got some groovy video that I will get around to sharing up at some point.
Very proud of the lads and lasses that play on GH. Would not swap these people for anything and in the time I got to play my privilege to serve.
Still at work. Its quiet atm. Hope I don’t miss all of the event by the time I get home later. I’d be really disappointed with so many loot bags running around if I didn’t get any of them.
Its too early to assess the long term impact of ascended gear. I do get the feeling ArenaNet have gone back on their word and we are being drip fed the never-ending upgrade ladder.
In most MMOs I like some of both PvE and RvR/WvW. That said, GW2 PvE endgame is pretty crap. Other than the Fractals instance I’ve been extremely unimpressed with ArenaNet’s PvE endgame. So to PvE-focused friends I advise them to stay away from this gobbler. One decent 5-man instance in an MMO does not an end-game make.
On the other hand, WvW is very good and I would still recommend people to play at this time if they like large scale PvP. I can’t comment on sPvP as I don’t play that.
For all the back and forth, the numbers dont lie. This has been a bit of a one dog race so far.. some good fights yeah, but the war belongs to AG.
Indeed, for round the clock numbers, AG putting out more people than anyone else and this is reflected in the score as the days go by. Well done for that.
Fair enough
/salute
Sorry for telling you that but you guys are not any kind of challenge, that’s why we train and train hard for next week, that’s why you see portal bombs against 3 ppl and even strangest things ~~
I have some nice video of us destroying your portal team outside of Woodhaven on our borderland
Another Soundcloud user, yay
This is better than much of the actual in-game music. What DAW do you produce on and what VSTs?
People have a right to do JP at anytime.
I agree with this.
Its up to the individual to decide if they want to play for the wider team or not. Getting them off the jumping puzzle isn’t going to magically make them want to play for the server-team as a whole anyway, let them get on with it. If there’s enemies camping the JP it means those same enemies aren’t really doing much thats useful in the larger strategy either.
I don’t really have a lot of time for people crying at the jump puzzle though. Its WvW/PvP and if its camped then take your lumps, move on, or come back with friends that can combine together to kick them out.
By wizzard I assume you mean elementalist. I find it awesome fun with a huge amount to contribute.
Last night was the first night since the new matchup that I came out for WvW. AG practicing portal bombing. Once aware, wasn’t hard to avoid.
Highlight for me was a large number of AG (30-40 I think) heading to northern supply camp on our map. We managed to draw enough of them off so that only a small number actually went there and were beaten back by our guys running to reinforce the supply camp.
The ones we’d drawn off were still a much larger force than those of engaging them and we managed to make it most of the way back to Woodhaven with them hot on our tails before getting killed. The supply camp was safe and now we were getting enough people into the area to match the enemy.
Around Woodhaven there were some AG portal bombs / mini turtles but nothing that did much harm. Necros etc were sent in to deal with it and the attack was broken apart. I suspect there were a few people that knew what they were doing in the AG crowd and that others were randoms. If so, AG did extremely well coordinating those people together.
Looking forward to more fights this week.
As usual, I’m extremely lazy and only switch on the commander badge when nobody else does.
I find that gaining cash/badges depends on the character I play. Different professions seem to do better than others.
I feel for you guys having the outmanned buff. We are there at times. Good luck with recruitment
I don’t agree with commander as a guild perk.
However, I think it would be very useful to have ‘leiutenanents’ able to make small raid groups. Not visible on map but with a raid interface so that in-guild its easier to run/manage multiple groups.
This I think instead would be a suitable guild perk.
This thread highlights rather well why ArenaNet need to look at the scoring system. While most of WvW seems inspired by DAoC and they’ve done a great job with many of the game mechanics, ArenaNet might benefit from looking at how Mythic tackled this problem in Warhammer Online. Don’t need to completely invalidate nightcapping, just make it less of a deciding factor.
PvD, like anything else that ends in VD, is not desirable.
Gunnars Hold is dead WvW wise. We had 10 people in the EB and they were mostly from my guild
All im gonna say……
Chuckled at this. You’ve been spotted attacking fully upgraded keeps without any siege and running around in WvW with your commander badge on but not actually talking in team chat or attempting to coordinate, a negative point which you have levelled at others.
You’re probably getting out of the game what you’re putting in.
The server-wide comms offered by gunnars-hold.eu continued to be busy and lively. But then, you opted out of that too and asked for your account to be removed.
To re-engage with the community on GH perhaps a positive approach would prove beneficial. Then maybe it won’t seem quite so dead.
In principle I agree with the original post: best in slot WvW gear from WvW only.
Mythic messed up big with Trials of Atlantis in DAoC and other companies also get lambasted for forcing PvE grind on people that don’t want to do PvE. ArenaNet would be wise to make sure they don’t give advantage to those willing to PvE grind to get optimum stats.
I would be disappointed to feel forced to grind a particular dungeon repeatedly so I could get to join in the fun stuff on an equal footing. By disappointed read “I will find something more fun to do with my time”.
It’s already happening. Most WvWvW players I know are now grinding fractals. Lol.
Yeh, I know
The fractals instance is the first dungeon in GW2 I quite like but I don’t want to grind it to death just to get a rare drop to max out a slot in WvW. Balls to that tired old style of time sink.
Personally I feel players should only be invulnerable until they actively use an attack on an enemy player, at which point they should cease to be invulnerable, even if they stay within the spawn camp.
I agree that players should not be attackable at/in their spawn. However, by attacking someone they accept that they should in return become attackable.
A lot of problems would simply go away if this change was implemented.

Personally I’d say its 6pm-11pm, with the peak between 7pm and 10pm, in whatever timezone you happen to be.
Primetime is whenever you don’t have maximum players and the enemy dares to capture a tower.
I think you have that backwards.
Dearest ArenaNet,
Please stop WvW when I need to have my dinner and when I go to the shop for more beer. Also, can you make honour badges redeamable at my local off-license in exchange for beer.
Thanks in advance,
Roo
Fraps’d over the last couple of weeks in fights with ourselves (Gunnars Hold) versus Piken Square and Abaddon’s Mouth.
As usual a deathmetalhardcore soundtrack is absolutely obligatory.
Some video of fights over the last couple of weeks against Pikeys and AM: http://youtu.be/ZJTsfLVlmTU
The voice comms chatter later in the vid is when AM held Hills. We could hardly hit stuff for laughing.
I welcome turtles. It makes our necromancers feel useful.
I also welcome kebabs. But thats mainly because I’ve been enjoying a few light refreshments this evening.
When you purposely get up a group that can abuse both of the well known system issues you can no longer act innocent.
While I can’t speak for all of us, most Pikens don’t use cheap tactics such as that because we KNOW we don’t render for the enemy. We WANT to fight fairly.Meanwhile Abaddons is purposely setting up groups to abuse system limitations.
Justify it all you want, Anet is fixing this issue in today’s patch. So at least we’ll be able to properly fight back against such cheap tactics.
Spot on. This is how many here on Gunnars Hold feel too.
