Your proposed changes would make me quit thief altogether
lol must be RP walking through the poison
That .gif was made a very long time ago, after the trailer of SAB was released, but it still mostly holds true to this day.
GW2 can never be on the level of Guild Wars pvp, ever. There were very defined roles in Guild Wars, without being too defined like tank/heal/dps in say WoW for example.
In Guild Wars it was Front, Mid, and Backline. What you filled those with was up to you, and determine if you could beat the other team (with proper player skill of course).
The importance of where to stand and split-second reaction from good monks, protters, rupters, and melee is what made pvp so fun. GW2 can never achieve the fun-ness of GvG back in the day. It’s just mechanically impossible. In comparison GW2 feels like this spammy redheaded step child of GW. Basically you lay AoE and press 1 multiple times, running back and forth between points. Feel free to randomly dodge every now and then or if you’re getting focused.. you will be invulnerable during that time.
There was no easy way out like that in GW, every member of your team had to pull their weight and play their best because one wrong move meant you wiped and possibly the end of the match. Also 1 or 2 people couldn’t solo a lord like you can in GW2 which is totally stupid.. but then GW2 only has a party of 5, and everyone is a 1 man army.
May seem off topic at first but my point is, it is futile for them to put so much effort into esports, when quite frankly their pvp simply isn’t as interesting or fun as it was in Guild Wars. And I didn’t even touch on the extreme lack of builds or counters in this game, which is a totally different tl;dr.
Mechanically and visually, the game is boring to watch pvp. It makes no sense they waste so much resources on it in my opinion when it simply wasn’t designed correctly in the first place.
It’s all thanks to ANets new and improved effort to make their game more casual and idiot-friendly, because apparently Guild Wars was too hard to understand. Who knew?
I’m not against anyones daily arguments, but in my opinion if that is literally the only thing keeping you playing the game there is a problem and mayhaps you should move on to something that you can enjoy more than just 1 tiny aspect of.
There are unique skins from AP rewards that you can collect the full set. That tells everyone you have a crap ton AP.
Have you tried collections?
You can always carry with thief if you can rotate well and have at least a couple decent team mates that will support other points instead of feeding kills. No matter what nerf thief gets they will always be #1 rotater.
My alt pvp class is scrapper when thief is stacked because I never learned how to play other classes only counter and scrap is ez as pie to play well. You’ve played engi before I would recommend this other than rev.
Before scrapper my class stack-alt class was ranger they are also easy to play well but are weak against reflects unless you are using staff which is boring to me but effective.
I’m surprised to see a complaint about necro atm. As thief , even though they are a focus target for me, I don’t see them as OP or doing too much dmg. It’s kinda their class fantasy, if you don’t wnna get kittened by aoe then move out of it and stop tunnel visioning the necro? They are like locks in WoW, supposed to be this tanky caster without mobility so the only way to get you off them is aoe and CC.
DH traps are 10x worse imo
These changes were based off player feedback, so if it’s anyones fault, it’s ours. ANet is taking a chance and using our feedback to develop, something we’ve been begging for, so let’s see how it goes before the doom and gloom.
Mastery encourage you to grind to 80 so you can get the new spec, gliding, and loot options asap, and then it takes forever to get it all unlocked. It’s ANets own design… very grindy if you focus on the end game. And to be fair, GW2 has pretty much turned into an end game MMO instead of what it was released as.
You will want ascended equipment and all your mastery in order to raid, for example.
The way they gate things behind mastery is extremely annoying and sucks the fun out of the maps that I’m trying to enjoy so of course I farm and grind to get it over with.

Another way to skip certain things you are physically incapable of doing is either finding a nice mesmer or paying one to portal you. You can reach the end of jumping puzzles and other places like this without having to do anything.
Even though I am physically capable, mentally is another story, I have been known to pay a mes for certain things that I am just not willing to stress over.
(the LFG tool is great for this)
I still dont know, why does ANet give this thing…
I dont want even read this, why do you, guys read this?
Is something interesting in this?
So, don’t read it. How much effort do you think it takes to put this out? How many people need to read it to make it worthwhile?
It’s a bit of local color. I would have preferred to see the characters appear in the game, but I like the idea of having more stories appear (the original Living Story was partly meant to do this, see e.g. The Modus Sceleris)
I been playing since beta and never even seen those events nor did I know about them. They sound kinda like the Am Fah.. too bad
Ahh, actually… this forum software was built for us by a company called Fangamer, back in 2012. It was customized for us, of course, and contains may singular features. However, the core was built on software that their company created and that one of our developers spotted in searching for a system for us to use.
Of course, our working with a smaller company did have its drawbacks, one of them the fact that we’re not able to make improvements to our current forums, for a variety of reasons including the code used to create it, the fact they no longer have team members working on forums, etc. Features that we’d like to have — even basics like a working search engine — are outside our reach. On the other hand, some features on this system are superior to systems used on other forums on which I’ve worked, so it’s sort of a “win some / lose some” situation.
It’s nice to finally see the reasoning behind why the search function doesn’t work… but then again, it basically means it never will lol?
I would be more interested in getting a unique class like the ritualist from guild wars with weapon enchantments and spirits but we would need cantha for that and I guess anet abandoned it from the lore
You could get a type of brawler by adding monk to the game though, which could use fist weapons. But that adds the problem of having to add a new weapon type.
I believe megaservers were launched when I used this, because the world bosses were on the set timer at the time I used the app.
The overwolf catalog is exactly what I needed though thanks Lawton
I used to use a program overwolf (I think it’s called) and an API which gave an overlay for GW2 and showed me event and boss timers in-game without having to tab out or look at my phone.
Does this still exist, and is updated? What are people using now? Rather post here than the dead API forum for a reply

metabattle.com for builds
If you haven’t done world completion ,you will need to get hero points in the new zones to unlock your elite specialization, they are basically required now for anything as far as I’m concerned.
The maps are complete hell to traverse if you are new to them, so beware. I hear there are player trains you can follow to collect them if you can find in the group finder.
PS: you will want to unlock gliding mastery ASAP
There are alternatives to getting HP like WvW farming or map complete but imo it would be way faster to do the new zones because they reward 10 per hero point location if I remember right.
I’m probably wrong about something, this is my limited knowledge through personal experience.

I had trouble adjusting at first. Heck, when I heard about the first five skills being determined by weapon choice, I considered skipping GW2 — it sounded awful.
After playing with the system for a few weeks, I couldn’t imagine going back to GW1’s.
How did that work? How can determined weapon skills be better than letting you choose whatever skills you like?
GW1 was a balance nightmare. The amount of options made it so that a very large percentage of the skills was never used. Compared to the differences in usefulness between options in GW1 the differences in power between options in GW2 are nothing. People always say that GW1 was full of build diversity, but GW1 was even more prone to FotM builds than GW2 is.
And that was before the terrible introduction of PvE skills.
There was still infinite build diversity, even if they weren’t optimal. I spent at least half my playtime in GW1 making builds.. that’s part of what made it so fun.
It was a balance nightmare? funny how we had less cancer builds in GW1 and more balance than we do in GW2. I prefer IWAY or RSPIKE / BSPIKE compared to the bunker nightmare, condi nightmare, or complete garbage builds like when turret engis were around. I never understood making AI so powerful, it takes zero skill.
All those meta builds in GW1 were destroyed by balanced, or aoe teams. I know cuz I beat them all the time, they were just builds for the noobs and let them advance the ladder before hitting a wall.
In GW2 there are much much less counters in the game so everyone ends up using the same meta, which makes the meta boring and stale and it never changes until ANet finally nerf the crap out of it then we move on to the next boring meta where everyone is still the same.
Meta in GW1 it felt changing like every month , not 6 but maybe cuz I enjoyed it more. They also had players team helping them balance (I forget what they were called) instead in GW2 we are all basically beta testers with no test realm, something that should be in any modern MMO.
Talking exclusively pve, yeah the balance was terrible. I mean just look at shadow form lol it changed like 10 times but never once stopped being an invulnerable skill. What was the friggin point in even changing it then? Makes no sense. But GW1 was more a pvp game.
Bunny thumper ranger and BB sin still 2 of my fav builds ever. You also gotta respect how we managed to find these builds in a sea of 1300+ skills
(edited by Rukia.9860)
Anet totally missed the mark on clothing in GW2, CLEARLY not the same designers as 1 because clothes were 10x better looking. Member when mesmers wore actual attire and not kittened capes all the time? Member??? Same goes with pretty much every other class.. there was ton of normal clothing. All we want. kitten capes and skirts jesus is that literally all you can design?
The reason gw1 didn’t use capes and skirts was technical, not because of taste.
Back in 04-05 when gw1 was being developed cloth physics was a new tech that was just starting to make it’s appearance in games, only the newest engines had it and even then the cloth physics was generally rough and buggy.
Game artists of that time avoided capes, trenches, and dresses because they simply didn’t have the tech to animate large flowy cloth.
I bet the reason gw2 has so many capes and skirts is because the artists at Anet where ecstatic at having the tech to do so, and do well.
Except there was also caped clothing and skirts in GW1 and dresses too.
The simple fact is they had better looking gear at least in my opinion because they weren’t so over exaggerated and 99% buttcape territory.
What if I just want a regular looking outfit? There is one that I found in this game that I like and almost every piece is from the gem shop.
It wouldn’t hurt to add regular pants and shirts without dumb attachments to them. 4 years of them adding almost nothing but buttcapes.. come on it’s getting so old.
I don’t know but you can bet your sweet kitten it will have a massive butt-cape and look ugly
Mordy is an extremely boring and frustrating fight with how often it bugs out.
I was trying this fight for months, a couple times each month, and the 2nd updraft would never work for me. It simply stopped working. And the option to enter that bubble of protection or whatever instead of updraft? Yeah, nope. Doesn’t work at all, or at least it didn’t the last 30 times I tried the fight.
Trying to get back into the game and enjoy it… But everything related to HoT, it seems, should be avoided like the plague, since it’s more of a headache than an enjoyable play time.
As far as the HoT maps go, I completely agree. I ragequit months ago right after buying the xpac because it was just pure frustration and GRIND. Something I wanted to leave WoW for, but it felt even worse here because I could not even do the rest of the story without some stupid grind gating.
I came back again and realized just doing pvp and old world content is far more enjoyable than anything that has to do with HoT. I have no opinion on the new LS zones cuz I haven’t tried them yet, like I said just got back. It’s funny I keep getting comments on my mastery lvl 11 yet I have 14k AP lol. I had so many HP from getting world complete years ago that thank the gods I did not have to do anything in HoT to get my elite specialization.
They really didn’t think those maps through imo, especially when talking about the longevity. Yeah let’s add meta events which would require many people to zerg but just let the maps die out.. seems legit. I thought we’ve been telling ANet for years to keep organized group content to instanced? Isn’t that why they finally released raids? Just stick to normal freaking events in open world, there isn’t always going to be enough players.
Underwater combat sucks. Always. In every game.
QFT.
It is even worse in GW2 as it’s trying to be an action combat ON TOP OF BEING UNDERWATER. Just no lol.
It was the worst ever experience in Orr and other places getting 1shot by who the kitten knows what when you can’t see beyond the insane particle effects and stupid 3D environment.
99% of the time people just range everything because the melee skills are absolutely broken, make zero sense (prime example:thief can’t even have access to stealth) and mobs are not balanced in the slightest.
It is very clear that they stopped underwater combat development probably half way and just said screw it when they released the game. I mean they basically did that with the game itself, it is just now getting to be where it’s a full fledged MMO. Raids, QoL improvements that should have been at release, etc.
If they ever release that water dragon, they must be willing to go 100% on underwater combat. I just cannot see that happening, or they will make some excuse on why the dragon is on land instead. Or we’ll fight in a bubble of air or something weird.
Hopefully legendary runes so I can finally stop grinding and play the game like GW1. It sucks having to grind gear and runes just to play a different build.
It was infinitely easier in the first game.
You have elite spec at sPVP by default and if you are PVPer then go WvW and farm them there ive did so 1 day 250 HP ^^ GL
Well in sPvP players get alot of very nice rewards and such. With the absolutely minimal effort, just for showing up in sPvP. So he don’t even want to put any effort towards earning Hero Points as well.
Me personally got 7 out of my 9 elite specs. from HoT land can go from 0 to 250 in less then 3 hours per a toon, and if you bring a friend or two along under a hour and 30 minutes.
If you don’t want to WvW or PvE what do you want the hero points for anyways? I smell a successful bait thread at work here. WvW before hero points was account wide could take upto 10 to 20 hours per a character.
If you want hero points just for showing up in sPvP. Fine you can have them only if I can get a legendary back piece for just doing WvW, which requires much much more work and effort to progress through the reward tracks then in sPvP. It’s only fair right?
Believe it or not, some of us would not like to suffer through the event grind in those frustrating pve maps just to do raids. It’s wildstar alll over again with the “hey guys let’s bring attunements back because why not lol obviously everyone loved it the first time kek”
Thankfully it was only the original Guild Wars amirite ANet wink wink nudge nudge
/continue ignoring what made grind wars 2 possible
Pvp died shortly after release when everyone realized it was no where near GW1 pvp
It’s just a casual past time
The problem isn’t killing the scrapper. The problem is killing the scrapper before you get +1ed.
Tell that to my thief.
I feel like an ant biting on a gods toes.
Working 40hr/week and moving into new house did not give me much time to make the final push, but I finished the journey to legend an hour or two before end. (can’t remember daily reset)
Highest winstreak was 23, never lost more than 1 match in a row.
I had some good team mates and some bad ones, I solo q the whole way with DD while using druid when we were thief stacked.
I don’t know if the matchmaking is working correctly, but believe it or not a lot of my matches were extremely close games and literally every match I got into people greeted each other and strategized at the beginning.
I encountered only 1 match where my team had a couple rage monkeys that would put a salt mine to shame, funny thing is we won regardless..
I had to message support to remove this thing from my account, it’s what I suggest doing lol.
I have the same issue, in other games I can just resend the code to my phone but apparently ANet is missing this important piece of tech.
I don’t even remember what ‘app’ or if I even used an app to set this up, all I know is I want this cancer off of my account(s) because I can’t log in, just got internet at my new house and this thing is preventing me from playing my own accounts because I’m under a different IP.
I’m never using their authenticator again.
Blizz has their own app but apparently ANet doesn’t.
(edited by Rukia.9860)
I just stop playing when ranked isn’t available.
It’s a cesspool, no different than hotjoin.
I’ve been playing since beta and I can’t see what’s going on half the time, it kinda just comes natural that you know what your enemy is going to use and when once you get the experience.
I play thief so I am fortunate enough that I don’t need to be too much a part of the seizure inducing team fights in GW2.
Balancing SPvP individually——-
- This is probably the single most important change that the SPvP community needs whether you realize it or not. Not only does this make sense, but since SPvP is already isolated, not one change you make here effects the rest of the game. The way it currently works the devs expect us as players to think about the rest of the game before giving changes to a specific game type, however this way of thinking will never create good balance and the reason why is the majority of changes people suggest are obviously only made and will work for Spvp. WvW and PvE are very different in terms of balance and changes for one often conflict with the other two making the change almost meaningless to begin with.
The Lesh Prince recently developed some tech that makes skill-splitting more feasible than it was previously – you’ll see some PvP (and PvE) splits in the next balance update. It’s important to understand that changes will still need to be global, but we’ll definitely have a bit more flexibility moving forward.
Keeping parity between modes when possible is important to us – but when it’s not feasible we’ll look at splits.
edit: that clickbait though
I figured this would be ANets mentality. IMO it basically it boils down to them believing that their entire playerbase is a bunch of idiots and cannot possibly fathom that skills operate with separate functions between modes.
Pretty much all game devs do this now and it’s quite insulting, just like the NPE.. did we learn nothing from SWG? Balance is more important than the 3 people that would get so confused by this their head implodes.
OT: I think the 3v3 deathmatch is a bad idea, I want real 3v3 arena. And by the snails pace development ANet has with pvp then if we get only maybe 1 game mode per millennium I would prefer it to not be some garbage deathmatch mode.
At least arena would be competitive which goes in line with their ‘vision’ if that even exists.
I agree diversity was all but abolished
Repent ANet burn the imbalance with wildfire and pls stop with the passive and spam cancer , let’s make GW2 great again hurpdurp.
To make gw2 great- introduce underwater content, give us new dungeons that give ascended armor and have more puzzles and are more time consuming to help weed out casuals and you can’t hide in the corner to fight a boss.
Believe me when I say underwater content is not a good idea; they did this in wow and boy did everyone hate it deeply. Very, very deeply.
Vashj’ir was much more enjoyable than any underwater content in GW2 imo. In WoW the combat was no different than on land, you could still use all your skills and combos. The difference was basically you were swimming or riding your seahorse instead of flying mount, skipping on the ocean floor with your sea legs rather than running.
Yeah, let’s just remove the most situational “elite spec mechanic” in the entire game without giving something in return, right?
If gyro stomp goes, scrapper definitely deserves some new mechanic in return for it.
At least scrapper got a mechanic.
What did thieves get… a third evade? lawl.
Balance feels good right now imo… it can be better for sure but compared to what it was, at least I can enjoy pvp now instead of ragequitting after 1 or 2 matches from the cancer.
All I want is less spammable boons & condis. It is pretty crazy right now. especially on top of all the passive.
I wish all of our passiveness were baked into our weapon abilities and/or utilities. The one ‘passive’ I do enjoy is the thief evade traits though as its actually an active ability of sorts. We should have plenty more traits like these that actually compliment gameplay diversity instead of boring stuff like invulns/cleanse/boons/damage increase.
Those things are not fun at all, sure they are helpful, but they don’t make gameplay any more fun or thought provoking. It definitely isn’t fun to watch, either. Which is probably why our esport scene is a joke.
rofl.
I’ve lost 2 games this season.
I wish I wasn’t working 40hrs/week. I’d be legend twice-over.
Soloq, thief/ranger (depend if class stack)
Wait… how is that possible? 20 pips into ruby means you needed 80 pips total. Even with a 37 win streak, you can’t get 80 pips. Did I miss something that allow you to skip tiers or divisions or something?
If he played an earlier season he might have started in emerald.
I didn’t know this was possible. I have no idea what tier I started this season.

All I know is I get 2 pips per win cuz of winstreak. I haven’t skip anything
Yeah the reason you’re advancing is because of your MMR, same as my diamond char. The games are easier and my team mates are better. Simple as that. If this game used true match making, nobody would ever get 10 wins in a row. This system is design to allow good MMR to climb on top of bad, that’s why so many people are upset.
I don’t know, I find that this has a lot more to do with winning 10+ games in a row.

I think a lot of people want gw2 play style to be something like this, and it is getting closer and closer to it imo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FruDiBguzM
Dragon Arena is so fun, even the mini events in GW1 were competitive lol
I much preferred the point and click way of evading projectiles instead of straight up rolling on the floor and magically becoming immune to everything. It was more skill based imo.
I would watch arena’s (2v2, 3v3)
A good ele will definitely determine the outcome of a team fight but not the entire match imo, there are counters like rotating. You learn pretty quickly whether your team can handle the other in a team fight and adjust your strategy accordingly.
It’s 10x worse with scrapper + ele which is pure cancer setup as there are basically infinite reflects and support going off by both of them it’s not as simple as focusing down a target. I try to avoid these fights as much as humanly possible as to retain my sanity in this game.
GW2 pvp is horribly boring to watch lol
GW1 GvG >
Hopefully it’ll be something just as non-cancer and engaging as traps.
GW1 had healers, front mid & backline, not everyone could just run in and zergwtfpwnaoespaminstakill so it’s simply (and unfortunately) not possible to put the game modes that were in GW1 into GW2. This game is not as slow & tactical. It’s more of a braindead spammy light show xD
lol tl;dr nerd
During FFXIV maintenance I attempted to do this fight again, and this time it bugs out on the FIRST PHASE which don’t let me updraft and the shield is useless, when they yell either shield yourself or take flight, and they all stand in that dome? It literally does nothing lol I still take the aoe damage.
It’s been like over a month since I last played and it’s still bugged, even more so now, this happened on both attempts before I alt+f4’d
I feel like I should update this every month for pure comedic value
well back to eorzia cya in 30 days xD
There isn’t a bug with the updraft, not to my knowledge. I beat the fight after three attempts. Sometimes I think the hitbox is to small, sometimes I think I missed it.
I am 100% positive that the last phase is bugged for some, maybe not all, but definitely for me.
I can updraft no problem until the last phase, it literally does not work.
If ANet had a player test realm, you know, like every other MMO on the planet, these things wouldn’t happen so often.
Game breaking bugs happen so much in this game it’s tiresome. Do I even need to mention the immobilize glitch where you can’t move for no reason or the mid air immobilize bug? Been in game since launch, so I fired up my FFXIV acc today and added the new xpc, ANet can screw off until they learn to polish what they already have before adding new content cuz I don’t expect this to be fixed for years.
(edited by Rukia.9860)
3 times I fight mordremoth and I can’t fly up in the last phase , not deploy by jumping (like the other phases) nor press F on the stream.
Friend has no dps and I get teleported up top (queue ANet /laugh) to watch and able to do absolutely nothing.. wow what amazing design, did you take that straight from Blizzard themselves just like Brewfest? It’s a kitten personal story for crying out loud, not a raid.
First I had to grind a bunch of events in your terribly designed maps just to see the story cuz of masteries, now I can’t even finish the final fight. He’s not even hard, at all. It’s just I cannot avoid the aoe at the end. I don’t know if it’s cuz 2 allies cannot use the same stream or what? But we stick together cuz you know.. that’s what allies do.
What an epic battle. HoT is failure , the new maps are annoying & confusing, I brought a friend to HoT also and he cannot even complete his flight mastery so he quit the first day lol… fix your bugs they should be a priority.
