GW2 has always been fairly balanced, the issue with this games pvp is the absolute cancer you must play against. Sure it may have a counter or whatever but that doesn’t mean it is fun to play against.. I agree this games pvp is the most frustrating out of all pvp I’ve ever played.

WoW is more homogenized, every class can counter everything to a certain extent. The only extreme example I can think of 2 classes countering each other is like a shadow priest vs pally cuz they can mass dispell. There is no class that can just condi bomb you instantly or spam a ton of aoe, it is actually slow and strategical compared to GW2.

And using the top 100 arena is not any real way to judge balance. Holy priest is just as ridiculous as rsham right now. Everyone see’s a class do good in high ratings then starts to fotm roll that class.

It’s like BrM being 1 of if not the best tanks to bring to raids, yet everyone thought they were garbage cuz they were never on the ‘list’ but nothing has even changed about them. They are just as good now as they were then, people just only focus on what they see on these top played lists.. they really mean nothing other than what people think is best. Blizz has even stated this many times, they try to keep every class very near each other.

Granted, Blizz history with balance in pvp has been pretty terrible but its never felt like the level of cancer we deal with in GW2. I’d rather have an unbalanced game than a ‘balanced’ game with such annoying freaking builds that take zero skill to play.

Only confirms my fears as I knew they would choose the lamest possible weapon for Thief, pretty much guarantee’s I will not be playing the next xpac.

They need to add assassin specialization and bring lead, offhand, and dual attacks back with GW1 combo system but that would require actual effort on their end.

At the very least could have gotten shield or offh sword some way to stand toe to toe with a target without having to evade 24/7 sounded cool to me also but nah let’s give em a kittening rifle that will be useless and gimmicky in pvp, basically an afk weapon for open world pve.

And thief continues to be nothing but D/P

The difference being this games pvp is actually dead.

It isn’t just nerd rage you see on this forum but ppl actually wanting the game to come back in population. No other competitive pvp game right now has this population issue but GW2 isn’t competitive anymore.

It was impossible with a duo q structure anyway, so what we have left is a pvp mode that doesn’t feel meaningful or impactful especially since the matchmaking is so horrendous cuz we haven’t the players to fill and that just leads to even less players.

The next xpac is the only chance to save pvp. It will increase population by default as xpacs always do and that is where ANet can shine and save pvp. If it fails then it will be more dead than it is now and we’ll all remain with OW, HOTS, or LoL cuz no other MMO has even slightest chance of being as good at pvp than GW2 did.

Why the heck do you need protection on a necros well? Necros entire goal is to position in aa way that they are hard to focus. I run the power boonstrip with corrupt boon and double well meaning yes…. no Stun breaker….. and the one thing I can say for certain is where I place my wells is generally as far away from me as I can be….. okay other way around… I place myself as far away as I can from my wells. You dont ever want to be near your wells until you have full shroud and even then you want to be back out of the fight before you completely run out.

A side note…. double well is the only build I reliably out damage power warriors in every match…. their damage is insane if you are running marauder…I have single handedly wiped teams with them.

I can tell you’re lower ranked because you don’t have a thief riding your weiner.

Wells do need a buff, especially in terms of damage. They should actually be menacing, not a trickling annoyance.

But the problem is HoT powercreep they are not that bad just way over shadowed. They CAN be useful, if you have the proper support.

I personally run reaper with corruption poison cloud it’s a very under rated skill that will simply ruin people who don’t realize its power like thieves spamming 4. (coming from someone who mains thief, yes I kittening hate thievse with a passion vs my necro!_

I know it’s not a well but I’ve seen some very well rounded players run well and succeed, it is actually a benefit if you have the proper support. Unfortunately this is mostly not possible in current pvp system.

Interesting, I always found GW2 PvP to be rather peaceful (but haven’t played for a while), especially compared to MOBAs or overwatch. OW was fine for the first 30 levels but now there isn’t a single game where there isn’t someone flaming mercy for not healing enough, leaving because they don’t want to play with a widow or whatever. Hating because of the hero choice of someone else or just general flaming. Actually whenever someone uses the chat it’s hate. Just look at the “how to disable chat” threads in the OW forum.
And I haven’t even tried competitive mode yet, only quick play…

You’re not wrong, but personally I do nver receive hate like that because I am allowed to group with my friends. I was just trying to point out that enemies even say GG usually in HoTS or OW because you are genuinely enjoying yourself.

As soon as you join the match, by looking at the people on both sides you’ll probably have a good idea how it will go anyway. It’s pretty common to get the same few people in consecutive matches. You’ll be awake when it seems like a close match though.

Duo queue is rather weird, I agree. MMR is the same old wonky thing.

Team queue used to exist but I can guess that because of population issues there aren’t enough full teams going by to make it work.

And solo can get some wildly inconsistent teammates to appear and back in the day some of us brave souls solo into team queue just to get a good fight.

That’s the only thing I’m afraid of, even if they do add back team q at this point I think pvp is so dead that it just wouldn’t matter. I would play with my buddies for sure, but we’d probably just be destroying the same low rated newbs every time. So kitteng sad how far this pvp has fallen.

It’s not that simple when you have very little control over your party composition especially when terribads that only play 1 class will refuse to swap and MMR is all over the plce. My problem is definitely not self improvement lol none of t his would be an issue if I could just take a full team of friends into pvp who actually know how to play.

The current system is not competitive AT ALL. Duo queue is a complete joke, who the kittenhought of that lol people asked for solo q and team q to be separate, not this garbage.

1) Matchmaking had hard limits on its search ranges. Specifically search for players to play with/against ONLY in your division. Nothing higher, nothing lower.

OR

2) All MMR gained/lost from a match is calculated based off of average TEAM MMR, and not personal MMR.

Best way to play this game: not to play it at all. I spent more time playing offline games and OW this season than pvping in gw2. The system is designed around making you feel like crap.

I have been too, also try HoTS it is very fun. There is a massive difference in community attitude betwee pvp in these 2 games and GW2 which does seem to just be a bunch of frustrated and/or terrible players. Something is very very wrong with pvp here lol salt all around boyz I guess this is what happens when a game (mode?) is dying/dead.

It is nice in other games to see “gg” or “well played” often instead of pure rage and you know for a FACT in GW2 the losing team at least one of the players is kittening and raving about how terrible everyone is. Friendly like GW1 pvp used to be, brings back memories of old!

Still pvping, but still not taking it seriously. This game will make you rage so hard if you take it seriously. Grab a beer take a hit and spam aoe on reaper is better than tryharding on my thief and still losing to terrible players cuz of cancer / team mates.

It’s not like any top players are actually good they’re just using whatever latest cancer build is meta and they know how to rotate. Yeah it’s much easier with 2, I did all these old achievements with my buddy. They are very frustrating and gimmicky usually no matter how many people, but in most cases these are way less likely to fail with another player.

Is it possible to find a regular pair of pants like medium armor at least has 2 or 3 but I have not been able to find anything decent looking for heavy. At least medium butt capes look ALRIGHT even though they are done to death same with light armor, but heavy looks incredibly awkward.

I need regular pants not covered in weird knobs and spikes with asymmetrical bs and buttcapes. Just WANT PANTS!

lol close mid is not the only viable strat it completely depends on your team comp and other factors. pvp doesn’t have a guarantee’d set of rules that will work every time.

Duo q is the dumbest move ever. Pvp is dead already may as well let us ranked 5 q and only match solo q with solo q. Who cares about q time, we can q outside of mists for kitten sake.

In all seriousness, I don’t think writing a tip at the start of match will help that much. If you get team that needs to be told that it’s better to leave point than die on it, then you’ve already lost the game.

“Thief close” is a pretty dumb one as well. As soon as your home point gets pushed and your thief is capping it, you either have to give up the cap, or your thief fights a fight that takes way too long. I’m really done hearing ‘thief close’ at the start of a match. Instantly dumbs down the one who wrote it.

Like it’s hard to get r4 or r5… all you needed was 10k balth to unlock a build if you were asked to play something. You wouldn’t want to duo queue with a bronze in GW2. ‘Elitism’ exist in every game, and rightfully so. Not everyone has the play for fun mentality at some point you actually want to win and that goes for pve as well.

If it’s such an issue make you own groups? of course not that would be blasphemy against our god king casuals and believe it or not the would-be group maker would prefer experienced players as well /gasp the revelations are real

Hey here is a thought for anet. Blizzard is re releasing Sc1 with 4k graphics and video so a remastered sc1. Why not do the same take the game of gw1 and add gw2 graphics and they would be set.

It would take a ton of resources to completely re design GW1 with more fidelity and no one cared about graphics nearly as much as the gameplay. In fact I prefer the simple graphics of GW1 over GW2 though they are similar GW2 is much more glossy and is trying way too hard to look good which diminishes the beauty of their art style imo.

SC is an extremely tiny game compared to an MMO, besides it doesn’t even look that good honestly I was more impressed by the tech advancements. Now they just need to do the same for Diablo 2, it sucks you can’t play that in your native resolution lol 800 × 600 is so 20 years ago.

The trick to pvp is to not take pvp seriously. When you accept it for what it is and play for personal improvement or just the lulz it can be fun. Completely ignore rating and ranks cuz they don’t mean anything if matchmaking is anything to go by.

You can climb ladder with some really terrible builds giving you the illusion that you are improving or are otherwise better than players when really you are just facing noobs even noobier than you.

I am almost always teamed with the worst builds/players at this point it is comical to me how can you get mad at a game that doesn’t even take itself seriously. It’s not their fault it’s matchmaking in favor of faster queue’s.

Rev is actually a really fun class but disappointing that it is so niche or simply ineffective.

It sort of plays like thief but cannot do anything that thief can do nearly as effective. Either needs more stopping power or survival, not gonna pretend I know anything about balance but the class is clearly underpowered.
