It is p2w from the perspective of a F2P players or someone who owns core game from before & tries to pvp vs the elite specializations, you will get absolutely rekt vs anyone decent.

It is not a l2p issue, elite specs are simply OP, if they aren’t then tell me why you are currently running one as opposed to any other old build? (unless you don’t own HoT, you are using an elit spec. guarantee’d.)

^_^; I can’t imagine not running daredevil at this point, it doubles a thieves effectiveness.

But gear… really? In pvp? How about just have random skins unlock in your wardrobe, I don’t need all these boxes to click just to click more with a salvage kit. useless, completely useless.

I’d rather a set amount of increased gold reward or a % chance to unlock random skin on victory.

Why did we get these kind of buffs?

Thief doesn’t belong in group support and buffs. We’re straight up assassins, name an mmo where the assassin dolled out buffs like he’s a paladin/priest type.

It’s like people don’t know how to place a character archetype.

Rift.

You can play any roll as Rogue, from assassin to a bard to a ranger to a healer. Also tank.

Rift is the closest game I could find to Guild Wars 1 where you can literally play anything as basically 1 class and has a ton of build diversity.

Adjust the loot tables to be more GW2 aligned

By aligned, you mean just a bunch more crap loot to be salvaged ? Totally pointless. Any type of ‘box’ in GW2 is basically cancer.. just more click bait, never anything worth. At least I’ve never got anything good in the 3+ years I played.

In GW1 at least I could use anything I got out of it, but in GW2 classes are limited by weapon type, stat’s are on gear in GW2, level requirement on gear, etc.

Also we could sell zkeys in pvp in GW1 it was a great way to profit in pvp when you didn’t want to grind pve. Why would you not want them tradeable?

I honestly don’t know, the last thing I wanted was a buff to damage. But I’m not complaining…

Now we can be like every other class with those cancer passive immunity traits. Only reason to even use acro, and still not worth it.

Assassin’s Reward is the only thing that would make sense using out of all 3 TERRIBLE GM traits in acro, and it’s a… sustained heal trait? What? Does ANet even know how thieves survive? It’s called evasion and blinds, you idiots. When has thief ever survived from sustained healing? We die in 1 hit outside of an evasion frame.

If yet another passive braindead trait in the game is their answer to thieves being too squishy then I don’t know what to say.. other than they could have put in a source of protection in acro.

In GW2 I call it #ebolaSports because it’s not fun to watch and has a pitiful amount of viewers compared to any other eSport game out there.

Too particle effects heavy, not enough strat, just cap points over and over and anything beyond a 1v1 is , like I said , just billions of particle effects going on and no one knows wtf.

Imagine being an outsider to GW2 and then watching an ESL conquest match lol you’d altf4 that tab pretty quickly and move on to something else.

They had their chance to make a true eSport worthy game mode, GvG (from GW1, not the blob stuff in WvW) but instead made some crappy LoL / GvG hybrid that doesn’t have enough of either to come anywhere near to being successful.

Part of the ‘problem’ is there are no real healers & even the ones we do have are just spamming aoe mindlessly and spreading boons without a thought. There is almost no strategy involved, no jukes needed, no skill, just spam.

Just my opinion on why this game isn’t eSport and why it never will be. I mean ANet can throw money at it all they want, it’s their money, but they must understand that it just isn’t that type of game. You had your chance in GW1, but you straight up abandoned that game for this one.

In the original GW it was much slower and more thought provoking, easy to follow, more strategy, and epic battles, and you never once thought “wow these particle effects are crazy over the top!”

If you want true eSport then go back and support the GvG scene… people are still playing it in GW1 after all these years of no updates or support from the devs.

They put items up for sale then remove them again, then put them up again later. The wings especially tend to be up for only a short time before being removed.

I don’t understand this logic at all. I would have bought so many things that they have taken out of the gem store because I had to take a month off or whatever for work & travel. This happens all the time so I rarely ever buy anything from the gem shop.

It would make more sense to leave all the gem shop items in there, they would make more money from people being able to actually purchase them beyond a freaking week, and the gem shop wouldn’t feel so kitten barren all the time.

Am I wrong?

Blade n Soul a threat to GW2?

lol i think people got too used to gw2’s gear mechanics that they take it for granted my opinion: no normal mmo, as shiny and new as it’ll be, can be a threat to gw2 in the LONG term. Why? Gear. It’s as simple as that. You farmed to get your shiny endgame gear? No worries! Wait 1/2 months and we’ll release a new set that will rend the old one useless, so you could farm all over again! Fun, right??? one time it’s okay. 2 well, one can live with it. But after a couple of times it’ll just start feeling pathetic. This is why i left TERA, when i realized i have to chase newer and harder to get gear in order to be viable. This is why such games cannot be a long-term threat to gw2.

i thought the no need to farm for the latest gear policy was great before launch but then, most people I know are farming all the time and i, even though i hate farming, have farmed my share too (way more than in the ‘grindy’ WOW, though not as much as 99% of the people i know).

So, in the end, farmers are gonna farm, you might as well give them a valid reason for it.

I feel the same, even tho GW2 is not ‘required’ grind, it feels more of a grind than the actual grindy MMOs sometimes. Especially bfore HoT it felt like all I was doing was dailies and grinding for legendary, not enough quests or end game to make it fun.

HoT does better in some categories but also adds gating which is literally the worst thing they could have done, I hate that crap in other MMO… hell even WoW has gone totally away with gating besides superficial stuff like flying mounts. (a 2 week rep grind)

Rukia.9860

No, BnS will not “threaten” GW2. It does, however, chip away at GW2’s playerbase. Every single MMO that has come out since GW2’s release has seen very active players unhappy with ANet’s refusal to communicate with their playerbase move to other games. ESO, Archeage and now Blade and Soul. With Black Desert Online and Camelot Unchained on the horizon, ANet needs to up their game or risk losing even more dedicated players.

Sure, ANet is currently marketing towards the extremely casual “facebook gamer”, but while they provide a lot of cash shop money, they don’t stick around and make your game last. It’s a giant shame that WvW and PvP are so screwed up right now with little to no dev communication in regards to future development.

Guilds like mine are waiting on games just like BnS (we’re already moving there, but with 1 foot still in GW2 in the hopes that future development and communication improves), Camelot Unchained, Crowfall and Black Desert Online. ANet better watch out.

And since that time, Guild Wars 2 has gone free to play which increases it’s playerbase. See how that works. Some things chip away and then boom, some people come back and some people start playing because it’s free to play and some people are back because they like the challenge.

I was looking at my guild roster today and I noticed some people that log in don’t really log in much anymore. I also noticed that some people that didn’t log in for a long time log in every day now.

That’s sort of how the whole business works.

Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have to be amazing, it just has to be better than the competition which in most cases, even with all the kittening and moaning, it still is.

I definitely came back for the challenge, and the MMO genre is so weak right now it’s honestly not hard to own the competition. I mean WoD (WoW) is basically an expansion of dailies, seriously. There is literally zero substance to it.

It’s still fun to play the old content and achievements but wtf did I pay 50dollars for on an xpac that no one even plays? Subs are down more than ever.. I think devs getting lazy, but at least ANet is still trying to be unique & push out content for free, even if I don’t actually like the content they put out you gotta respect the fact.

GW2 is by far the best bang for your buck easily, but do you like it or not? up to you.

Where is the 2v2, 3v3 competitive arenas?

in PvP

Posted by: Rukia.9860

Rukia.9860

But think about the potential income of PVPers! We could take part of the population from WoW’s arena base who would love this type of freedom and skipping the leveling process. And bring back old GW2 players and convert at least some PVErs. I thinks a bit short sighted to just think it’d be fracturing the player base, when in reality you could just be growing it. Bringing in more players and ex players could do wonders for both arena AND conquest populations at once.

It isn’t off the table, and we have most of the tech for it. I expect at some point we will do it, just not now. I don’t know when either.

Edit: This isn’t a promise we’ll do these type of arenas, just my opinion based off of previous discussions with the team. We may never do them, or we may do something like them. Nothing is planned at this point.

Please it’s a great idea, please do this. Please.

Is BnS PvP really that great? The “combos” and knocking people into the air looks cool and all that but what specifically makes it so much more fun and rewarding than Gw2 PvP?

Yes. For starters you can actually see your target, even in a mob of people.

The way the combat works makes it more fun than GW2 PvP in my opinion because there is no messy tab targeting and it’s very skill based, if you are bad you will lose regardless of class. Balance is better than GW2 due to not having an overabundance of build diversity that just ends up negating most traits/skills, which is super important in PvP. Also, if you actually like fighting your opponent this game is better because there are 1v1 and 3v3 arena matches, no point capture or stronghold BS just plain and simple fighting. Then there’s open world PvP, no zerging BS or tower capture – you actually get to fight the enemy! Although for those who do like PvE in their PvP there are faction quests where your faction must defeat NPCs or bosses, so there’s something for everyone and you aren’t forced into doing anything you don’t want to do.

The only downside is you want to reach max level first and in the case of open world PvP gear up first. You don’t have to, its still possible to win if you are good enough but if you want an equal playing field you’ll want to. I guess WvW has that problem too though, so GW2 doesn’t beat it on that front either.

Skill based eh?
Tell me if you delete your lvl cap Assassin and remake a new Assasin that’s level 1 and you fight someone who is maxed level, who will win? If it’s skill based then naturally the winner with better skill execution and strategy should win but if you lose against a maxed level player because you are level 1 then it’s not skill based. Specially in PvP.

In GW2 level doesn’t matter. Player’s skill execution and strategy does since everyone has access to everything and are boosted to level cap in the first place.

Is true to a point, you get scaled up, but I think are a little weak vs geared player, but totally worth it cuz the pvp is so good. It is a little enough of difference to come down completely to skill.

If you are better than that player, you will kill him.

And in BnS it’s not actually gear but your level that differs your stat’s, it’s weird only your weapon gives you power or something like that. I played the asian version a while back for hours on end but the lag from ping eventually made me quit.. so happy west finally got a version . After like 3 years lol…

Btw west version may have fixed this, I have no idea I haven’t played it.; I’m sure western version is gonna be a lot different.

The UI looks so much like TERA. Bad memories of getting to level 8 and then uninstalling out of crippling boredom

Lol I always hear tera is fun but the questing is so boring and atrocious, circa 2004 fetch quests all through the game… yeah no thanks I have no patience for that in 2015(16)

Only prob is I die instantly if I’m not in an evade frame lol.

Staff is barely just enough fun for me to ignore the cancer and play, I actually kinda like being the underdog because your enemies are more surprised when you rek em.

No. BnS has nothing on GW2. The game is kinda fun at the start, then it falls flat.

Black Desert looks very interesting though.

GW2 will always be around though.

Lol funny you say that when Black Desert is a typical korean grinder with unbalanced gear-based pvp and repetitive combat, no substance, basically core GW2 but with prettier graphics. And the effects are way over the top like GW2 also so massive combat sucks cuz you can’t see anything.

That’s my experience when I played. Nothing special, at least BnS has a good story that you can really get into and great pvp.

I know what OP means. There are a lot of NPCs with terrible attenuation radius. This is a basic skill that whoever does this in GW2 obviously can’t do or doesn’t bother to refine.

In the HoT story, they made it so you can walk super far and hear them, but it then suddenly cuts out.

In the new zones it’s very noticeable on those musicians in Verdant Brink at (I think) Faren Flyer’s WP.

Ugh this sucks! Any word from ANet on a fix? (lol)

I can barely hear my character at all and there is no way to fix the audio by positioning .. (it’s my character… I should be able to hear full sound regardless of what I’m doing, facing, etc.) seriously stupid since I was really excited for my characters actually speaking in HoT outside of cinemas.

Not really. A thief that isn’t evading in ranked pvp is a dead thief instantly. You have no time at all to use things like Fist flurry except in 1v1.

I don’t even run shortbow on staff, I’d rather take pistol offhand for the dodge leap stealth finisher. Imo SB shouldn’t be with staff, 5 on staff is good enough for travel coupled with perma swift using pack runes.

It does require you to use shadowstep for getting up certain ledges and such though, but I evade so much that I can usually save it for exactly that.

Reddit is terrible, can ArenaNet please stop feeding the fire of ignorance that is reddit, and just support your own company’s official forums, providing all relevant information here first at least?

I throw up when reading reddit most of the time, how can anyone spend so much time on that site.

I’ve never used reddit so I really don’t know if it’s that bad, but yeah I mean Blizz, Trion, Zenimax, [insert company here] all MMOs I’ve played their main outlet is the forums with the exception of twitter for answering some player questions because it’s faster/easier I guess

I think ANets policy (not sure if this is NCSoft or what) is not to talk about the game much before it’s already happened in an update , their lips are literally sealed on 99% of things. It’s why the communication feels so barren, and yes it’s a horrible, HORRIBLE PR statement.

If you can’t talk to us about your own game and settle the players with some info on your official forums, there is a problem. If you have to resort to a 3rd party website in order to talk to your players without getting in trouble, you KNOW there is something kittened up.

Why has there not been split Balance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rukia.9860

Rukia.9860

The reason I want to see skill splits in the game are for build diversity reasons. Let’s pretend ArenaNet decided to do skill splits and released their first update for it using Elementalist as an example. Scepter/Focus was really nice for Eles in PvP. Staff was great for WvW. Dagger/Dagger ended up needing a shave in raids and Scepter/X and Staff were great for general PvE.

They have a chance to make a lot more builds viable across all game formats and take away a nerf happening in one area to affect gameplay in another at the same time. It’s unreasonable to think that this is going to be less of an issue going forward as well with more Elite Specs entering the game, not to mention the changes coming to WvW, new raid wings, and whatever new flavor of the month PvE thing they are cooking up.

I for one would love to have a reason and also more options for all of my classes. I’d even start playing again if they implemented skill splits. It means they can be more exact for each format. Is it perfect? Not a chance, but it would be more precise and I think that’s something everyone should get behind.

I used to love playing freshair scepter/focus zerker ele. (I think it was focus?) It took skill to play, ok I should say it took skill to survive, as the burst was not complicated, just about timing. As opposed to this garbage we have now.

Any spec that is fast and bursty and thief-esque is the only thing I can play other than thief. In HoT it seems all the new specs are friggin bunker cancer or just so completely OP that those old specs are not even worth taking a glance at.

The odd thing is , ‘bunkers’ in HoT are doing as much damage as we were 6 months ago in core as zerker/condi lol? What!?

The new amulets are going to make this bunker meta fall off but then again it’s going to be pure condi/power mark my words… they really don’t seem to think about their balance changes, or maybe that is their intention to ruin bunkers?

As much as I hate them, I wouldn’t make them useless by adding a bunch of power amulets and removing the defensive ones.

Gating: I was honestly surprised ANet even implemented gating in crafting when we were able to make ascended gear, which is extremely annoying.. if I have the mats LET ME FREAKING CRAFT IT OK!?? -_- I thought you guys wanted to NOT be like WoW.

Yeah gating is absolutely horrible and a tell-tale sign that they are trying to string out content to last longer because they don’t wanna make more and players will get bored too fast without it.

Well guess what. It’s an MMO, some players will no-life the hell out of all your content no matter what, and forums are 90% horrible feedback from players with no respect for the game and get mad over every little thing. Just remove gating and let us play, the people that spew hatred all the time on the forum are probably some of the most active players.

I’m really disappointed that Thief received an auto death prevention trait. These sort of traits already make gameplay very boring because there’s this great big safety net for anyone using them. I expect Mesmer will receive a “get distortion when hit under 25% health” in the future <sigh>.

Also, dagger auto-attack and Basilisk Venom are absolutely fine (shockingly balanced – rare these days). Seem like the wrong target for buffs. Pistol auto-upgrade, Thieves Guild and Dagger Storm are far more in need of some buffs.

Wait wait wait wtf are you talking about? Please not be serious. I play thief because it actually takes skill, I don’t want passive cancer invulns.

I guess I gotta take a look @ patch notes.

Why has there not been split Balance

They should balance the classes around PvP first then balance PvE content around that balancing afterward if they aren’t going to split balance.

That’s really not fair to either side, if they’re going to balance, it should be with EVERYTHING in mind. Would you really be satisfied with pvp being ‘balanced’ (lol no game will ever had perfect balance) while pve suffers or vice versa?

I wouldn’t, and I’m a 90% pvp player.

It’s just simple logic to have them split , at least to layman non-developers like us.. who knows how it really is or what work it takes.

Ever thought about going back to GW1?

I never left GW1, it’s still my favorite game (tied with FFIX but completely different genre) but it is kinda dead now, yet has a very loyal community still. Great people, great gameplay, but the urge for new content brings me back to GW2 more often.

If they made a GW1 xpac and still supported the game honestly I would quit GW2 indefinitely.

What's up with the sound in GW2 since HoT?

I can’t hear any NPCS unless I’m basically making out with them face to face, maybe it’s just me but idk I thought voices used to be ‘global’ where I’d hear them even if facing a certain direction.

It’s extremely annoying and there is nothing I see in-game in the setting that can fix it. I may as well just listen to music because I’m relying on sub-titles to understand what’s going on anyways.

Opinions on Passives

I hate passives, it’s the main reason I don’t look @ GW2 in an e-sport light, I mean if you need a passive to carry you and make you immune to dmg at >25% health then meh. It’s definitely not fun to play against, there is a reason they nerfed vampirism but then we still have all this cancer on traits.

GW2 needs more actives not passives!

I honestly have no idea, pve & pvp were eventually split in GW1 but in GW2 they took a more WoW approach, which seems to be HELL to balance.

Funny enough WoW is splitting pve & pvp next expansion lol maybe GW2 will make it there as well.

It is probably because it’s more of a work load to have multiple different categories to balance for each skill instead of just all in 1, maybe it needs more teams. Idk. GW1 had such a small team and a ton of crap to balance so that makes me think it’s not really the reason they don’t split everything.

Why doesnt anet fix minor bugs?

This is common in software development. The schedule is always built around the new because new sells. If you try to tell the powers that be that fixing this pile of bugs would be equivalent to a minor new feature it’ll get rejected. It aggravating as hell as a developer. Often bugs are postpone until that area gets a revamp or it’s done off book, meaning off hours.

Of course that assumes the “bug” is really a bug and not an intended feature that some segment of the playerbase dislikes. The cause has to then be found and assessed as to the odds fixing it will cause a bug to emerge elsewhere or bring the whole Jenga tower of code for that sub system down around the devs ears.

Mundanes would be surprised on how not straightforward development on a large project is.

Permanent Bank access at gem store soon?

I don’t use the TP to buy items because I can’t stand the people that manipulate the market all day instead of playing the game.

I’d rather buy stuff on the gem store with my hard earned cash at a set and consistent permanent price because I work all day and don’t mind spending some money on the game for conveniences.

I don’t have time to farm for hours on end, I’d much rather just do something I enjoy, this is why I could not stand WoD, you were pretty much required to do dailies every day to get any good rewards, basically farming rep & gold instead of doing anything fun like pvp or raids. You spend all night doing dailies then don’t have time to actually play.

There were ways to avoid the dailies, sure, by using tokens that increase the reputation and completely bypassing the grind! The problem? AH (TP) manipulators would bump them up to INSANE prices so you were forced to do the grind anyway if you wanted any rewards, and farming them was not possible by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s pretty much the same in GW2 if you want anything cool for your character. In GW1 if I didn’t have time to hunt for every elite skill or normal skill in the game I could just buy them on the cash shop instead of grinding masteries for eons, if I wanted an epic item, aside from the panda pet, they were all pretty reasonable and you could not manipulate a market really because there was no AH or TP, you just bartered for the best deal.

:TL;DR +1 to putting items like these in the gem store!

Btw I’d have to pay upwards of like $300 (actually 250 but 300 for the best deal) for 2550g to afford 1 of these which is just absolutely absurd and I would never do.

It’s a ridiculous and completely unfair price.

I mean, ANet could always add a way to earn such convenience items in-game from some challenging content but lol who am I kidding that was obviously a joke.

These items are reserved for the manipulating TP heroes and rich folk with nothing better to spend their money on. Or extremely lucky people that buy BL keys, which is probably your BEST bet at getting one of these for under a kittened price. (maybe ;p)

Why I think HoT failed

The video posted by OP was great. I found myself nodding to most of it.

I agree that many wanted increased difficulty of game-play offered by HoT. But, many wanted more exploration in the style the game started with. We were told many times in the press-releases “The journey is the destination”, but the new game content offers extended grind time to access the ‘very brief’ extended journeys.

ANet was great with communication & design in GW1, but in GW2 they really feel disconnected at the very core of their team. Like they got too big too fast and no one really knows wtf is going on over there.

They have this vision, and are vocal about it, but the implementations never really align with it imo. It’s easier to communicate with a smaller team simply put.

I think ANet is too big of a company now, I felt more quality in GW1 that had much MUCH fewer people, but they were really awesome and totally delivered the best pvp, a good story with excellent lore, and some decent pve.
