Learn to chain your blocks and you’ll be fine.

The problem right now in the relationship between this game and its players is that the game’s combat is DESIGNED around using active defenses (skills), so blinds, blocks, reflects, etc. Pre-HoT most players would’ve gotten along fine without using active defenses, only passive defenses (stats) but now that everything hits hard you may as well give into the Zerk meta and just learn to play properly.

(just my opinion)

PSA: Yes, the mobs do hit hard. It sucks. I play Mesmer and I can’t chain my blocks that well because if I go Chronomancer I’m gonna lose a tonne of DPS from not having the right traits.

lolzerker…that setup will get you killed in these new areas, what with enemies that hit hard and travel in packs. The active defenses thing you’re right on, as a thief I’m having to dodge, shadowstep, and pull everything out of my kitten nal to stay alive…and the sad thing is that I’m wearing apothecary gear with a signet of malice build. Even with all that fast HP regen I’m still getting lit up hard.

I play full assassin Ascended gear. I don’t die that much, mostly when I screw myself over by playing badly or when I forget to equip my PVT Centaur set while running around.

I don’t die much either, simply because I use stealth as a last resort card to get out of battle. I wish I had ascended to make this easier, but I still only have exotics.

The only problems I have with HoT masteries is that they have to be leveled up in HoT maps, and the events don’t give anywhere near enough exp to level them up (and I’ve cleared all I can from the maps so far, still need a lot more to continue).

Not 20%, that’s too fast unless we’re talking the Legendary Mordrem Wyvern (which really should be that much, boy is a pain to kill). Everything else, 10%.

I believe 20% isn’t fast, it is at the right pace, considering that each even last for 10-20 minutes.

Regardless of what the changed percentage is, it needs to be more than this 25k crap experience we’re getting. That ain’t enough for this.

The ways to fix both HoT mastery grinding and HP problems in one fell swoop from me here.

Make it so you can level the HoT masteries while in the non-HoT areas. There, we’ve fixed the problem because we can go back to doing anything in open world to level them up, simply because we have more maps to use.

For the HP problem, drop the cost of Elite specializations to 325 and change all Hero Challenge group events to regular events that scale up depending on how many players are there. We’ve just fixed the problems with the system.

Mastery Feedback, Why did it have to be EXP?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Firstly,
I think the new maps are beautiful and amazing.
Although I think 400 Hero Points is to much for the elite specs (250-300 would be okay imo) it’s not my biggest problem.

To my point:

What I dont like and honestly don’t get is why the Mastery system has to progress with exp.
For me, GW2 was always about exploration and finding cool stuff like jumping puzzles etc.

So why do I have to kill enemies to get better at gliding? Why do I have to kill enemies to suddenly understand frogs?

That makes NO sense.

You already have a system that would be waaaaaay better than the exp grind.

Collections.

Make me run around the Jungle to search for 10~ NPC’s that teach me a new language.
Let me search the map for NPC that teach me how to be better at gliding.
Let me collect ingredients that make me resistent to poison mushrooms.

That would make sense. It would let me explore the world. I would have the chance to choose what I want to improve.

Its just not fun to see that Hero Point and spending the next 10-15min to figure a way out to get to it only to be stopped by a poison cloud.
At this point I would’ve been happier with not knowing that there is a Hero Point at this place.

Grinding EXP is just not fun and you should’ve known that.
why would you give us EXP tomes and lvl 20 scrolls if you didn’t know that.

ps: not a native english speaker. be gentle pls

Great idea !

What you’re suggesting would actually give the path to masteries some purpose… what we have now instead is a grind in the purest sense.

Only good part about this grind is that it’s once only. The masteries are account bound, thank god.

I’m working unlocking the Daredevil line completely, and I was wondering, which trait line should I be giving up for this? I have Shadow Arts, Acrobatics, and Trickery on me. I tend to go apothecary for conditions with Signet of Malice for fast healing through Dagger Storm, Death Blossom, and Unload (for those times when shortbow ain’t cutting it).

SA keeps me alive whenever I stealth, Acrobatics in general is just a good idea to have due to the added survival outside of stealth, and Trickery I kept on for the extra initiative and multiple lovely effects through stealing. I’m torn on this so does anybody have a suggestion on what I should drop for Daredevil and why?

Can’t that be a good thing, though? Isn’t that feeling of finally unlocking a mastery after working on it for so long something precious that should be savored?

I only had a problem with the ‘grind’ because we had such a small amount of the map available. If we had more, it probably wouldn’t have bothered me. We’re also not including into the mix the experience from story quests, which would probably boost the exp bar massively for the masteries.

The Charr and the other 'cute' races.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

I would never play a Charr. I remember them from GW all too well.

I dislike the magic snowflake wand that made them somehow the Industrial Power. In GW they didn’t even have trebs or any evidence of industry past forging of armor and weapons. Primitive, shamanistic Barbarians.

Every time I hear some filthy beast yell “Remember Ascalon” all I can say is, yes. I do.
And I want to gut them.

Aim for the Flame Legion. If you recall, they were the ones that ruled over the Charr until their gods, the Titans were taken out of the picture by the players. Then the other legions rose up and threw them out. After that the whole “no more gods” thing took over and they began to forsake magic in return for old fashioned forging.

Not a surprise that within the amount of time between GW1 and 2 they had gone through an Industrial Revolution and have become a technological powerhouse. Even in nowadays time for the game Charr that use magic are not really trusted by others.

I tend to lean exclusively Charr for my characters. Main reason being the following:

  • They’re sci-fi in a fantasy game, giving them points for being outside of the norm.
  • They’re an actual beast race (sorry FFXIV, AuRa are NOT a beast race)
  • They are one of the two manliest races in the game
  • The Charr themselves are interesting with their reactions to normal daily things.
  • They tend to treat people in their culture well as long as they can do something to help the race as a whole.
  • They have some of the best lines and voices in the game (save for female human, “Oh, it’s on now!”)
  • RYTLOCK BRIMSTONE!

Why I am salty about Ascended...

RyuDragnier.9476

Welp, just thought of a good way to fix the system. If the raid is possible with Exotic armor, then the answer to this just became obvious…we get tokens for completing the raid, 5 runs gives you enough tokens to trade for a single piece of ascended equipment of your choice. I can deal with that, since it means if you can’t craft the stuff and if you can’t find it, you have to do the hardest content 5 times per piece if you wish to get ascended.

The easiest way to actually fix this is an obvious answer that Anet has not supplied…make ascended gear tradeable and sellable on the TP. There, we’ve fixed the problem because now ANYBODY can gain access to it if they have a friend willing to make it or enough money to buy it. I do understand why they haven’t though, considering it’s currently just like how exotics used to be before you could start buying them. Now everybody and their mom has exotics.

Elite Weapons won't work in Core only?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

If anything they just need to buff several of the racial skills to a more useable level. For example, Warband Support is a poor man’s Thieves Guild, with the NPCs doing little damage and barely take a hit before disappearing, making it a horrible Elite skill. Buff the damage and the life on those NPCs a bit so they’re decent in both categories instead of kitten poor.

However I admit several other racial skills don’t need to be touched at all because they’re at a perfect level, such as Prayer to Dwayna, Battle Roar, and Grasping Vines.

But that is exactly what the Racial skills are supposed to be. Weak versions of profession skills.
Making them strong would more or less “force” people to choose a specific race for a specific profession in order to be “viable”.

Not necessarily. Why should any class take the Warband Support elite when every other elite is miles above it? Even if they were to buff the NPCs HP and damage a bit, it still wouldn’t be found as useful as the other skills. Every single one of these skills has a niche use, so it wouldn’t hurt to buff the near useless ones to decent level…most of the time they will not replace the regular healing, utility, or elite skills. Even if brought to such a decent level they’d still not replace the regular skills your class gets 80% of the time, so why not buff the useless ones so people can have fun with them in PvE?

No. That there is entitlement. It’s disappointing that it’s now expected that companies have to provide free bonuses with any of their products otherwise they’re labeled as greedy or out of touch.

Considering we’re paying more than the original game when it first came out…yeah, they kinda do owe us something. Though TBH, they need to just release an expansion only version to put all this crap to rest. They do that, the mob dies down because we can spend $20-30 to get the expansion alone and not the core game with it (which we already paid for btw).

"Don't Pre-Purchase HoT" ~ $100,000 Loss

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

No. $50 is the retail cost. It’s not “$30 + the cost of the original game,” It’s "$50 AND you get the original game free with purchase. They can remove the option of getting the original game, but lowering the price is not a factor in that. Why is this so very very hard for people to understand?

Because $50 is too much for an expansion to a game, period, unless said expansion has more than enough content to justify it. If Heart of Thorns had as much content as the vanilla GW2 when it first came out, then yes, it would be worth $50. Such as how FFXIV’s Heavensward seems to have as much content as the original Realm Reborn version (and both came out for $40).

I seriously doubt it will have that much though, and there’s quite a bit we don’t know about expansion. Right now I’d pay $30 without hesitation and POSSIBLY $40 (the line I feel one should take as the maximum for expansion costs), but not $50.

You can’t go into a restaurant and say "I see that the steak costs $20. Now I don’t want to pay $20. but I see that it comes with a free side, and if I ordered that side separately it would cost $2. So here’s what you’re going to do, because you owe me, you’re going to give me just the steak, and I’m only going to pay you $18, because I’m entitled to the deal that I want, not the deal that you offered.

No, it does not work that way. The customer is always right, unless he’s not. In this case, the customer is most certainly not.

Bad comparison. A steak is a perishable food item you eat and is then gone forever, whereas Guild Wars 2 is something you buy and have forever. Come up with a better comparison and then respond.

Came in here to chime my opinion. Recently saw the $50 price point that comes with the full regular game and I facepalmed because that was the cheapest version…which is a rip-off to people who already have the regular game. There SHOULD be a cheaper version that’s $30 that’s just the expansion itself. I’d throw my money at that without hesitation.

Or if they made it so if you buy the $50 version and already have the regular game, you get $20 worth of gems. Those two options alone would fix the complaints with this I believe.

but every hero point needs to be accounted for, for the system to work.

I do know what you’re saying, I’m just not sure that this part is actually true. There are already way more potential hero points in the world than any one character needs, and unless their longterm plan is for them to be considerably more limited with future elite specs, I don’t really see what the problem of having some imbalances is, aside from it just being sloppy.

no there isnt.
465 is the estimate for getting all your CORE specializations/skills

if the elite one takes the same amount you will need about 95 for the spec/skills that puts you at 155/209 or something
now likely there will be some unlock for racials/toxin spray that will probably use most of the rest of the points (if elite spec isnt more expensive)

regardless even if you only need 155/200 whatever you still wont have enough to unlock the whole next spec when it comes out, until you do the new content.

Did they mention how many new zones, skill challenges, etc they were adding in the expansion? Because odds are there’s going to be a lot to help with the numbers.

This system just doesn’t feel alt friendly at all. Which is very surprising considering the direction that HoT has been taking with making things alt friendly (such as the way masteries will work). Anet, PLEASE take alts into consideration when you think about how you want this system to work. I do not want to be running around on every single character doing hero challenges over and over again for skills I already unlocked.

Not sure how it’s not alt friendly. Assuming you’re leveling your alts to 80 (and if you’re not going into higher level zones not sure why you need traits anyway), you’ll get most of the hero points you need just from that. You can fill in what you want by doing skill point challenges, now call hero point challenges.

Are you saying going and getting some skill points is a big deal.

And if you’re only PvPing it’s all unlocked anyway so in theory the only people for whom it wouldn’t be alt friendly are WvWer’s who don’t PvE at all.

a lot of people didnt level their chrs by map complete.

while one skill challenge is easy, 65 is not so much.

65, PLUS the points you need to unlock the subclass stuff.

So that equals between 25% and 50% of known Tyria. With 19 alts (all leveled in PvP), that is kind of a big deal for me. If I have to run my alt through Tyria and do skill challenges, I can live with that, but I really, really don’t want to do it 19 times over.

19 characters!? O_o

I must ask, do you play with all of them on a daily basis? If not, then I guess just get the full unlocks for the characters you use the most. I only have 8, with a 9th coming the second Revenant is released (one for every class, 4 of which are the other races other than Charr), which is why I guess this doesn’t bug me to the level it would people with that many characters.

I have lots of alts, MOST of which I leveled in WvW. Unless you are saying WvW folks don’t matter at all. This IS a problem.

Not necessarily. If you have 400 points right there, you can grab everything you need, then bumrush several maps in PvE, rush straight for the skill points, grab them, and get out. By the way, did they say whether or not skill books and tomes will be useable after the change?

400 points from 80 levels. 65 skill challenges for full trait and skill unlock.

That means you will have had to do 1/3rd of the skill (hero) challenges in the game if you want to remain full unlocked.

Sorry WvWers.

Wouldn’t be that hard to pull off, IMO. I say this simply because if you abuse the starter zones and go after their skill challenges, that’s exactly 36 out of the 65 you need, half of them right there. After that, it’s simply of going to the next lowest level zones. Here’s the math, starting with all the starter zones, with their total number in there, followed by the total point number you’ll have afterwards.

Queensdale (7; 7)
Caledon Forest (7; 14)
Metrica Province (8; 22)
Wayfarer Foothills (8; 30)
Plains of Ashford (6; 36)
Diessa Plateau (8; 44)
Snowden Drifts (6; 50)
Kessex Hills (5; 55)
Brisbain Wildlands (8; 63)

From there you only need 2 skill challenges from wherever, and you’re done. That’s if I’m getting the amount you need total correct, that is. It’s not really a hard undertaking, just a bit of normal PvE leveling first. It’s actually the route I take when leveling new characters (in terms of starter, then higher level zones).

From what I’m reading, I kinda like the new system, but I admit I haven’t seen it in action. There’s room for them screwing up, but if it turns out well, it’s a good attempt to fix the trait system…because it’s STILL better than what we got now, gentlemen and ladies.

Seriously people. They could have been rolling a D20 for every person on a list and anyone that scored a 17+ on a roll was put on the beta tester list for all we know.

Anyone who’s feelings are hurt about getting to beta for 2 hours in the middle of the week needs to find something better to do with their time.

This. I already know what I’m doing on the 24th since I can’t do the HoT beta. The Dungeon Fighter Online Open Beta Test I starts then, I’ll just be playing that to death.

How do you even know you’re on the mailing list? I’ve signed up but didn’t receive any form of confirmation(yes I checked my junk/etc) I should be signed up from before gw2 launched cause I subscribed to the newsletter back then. What does loyal customer even mean? I’ve been around since gw1 beta weekend preview and didn’t get a key.

This brought to mind my own email address and I checked it. Haven’t seen anything since the announcement of HoT, which is surprising considering you’d think they’d be bombarding our emails with new info for the game as it comes.

I like the new trait system.

It gave me meaningful enhancements between level 30-80. Before the trait system, I simply power leveled because leveling was boring.

Be honest Blade. Leveling is still boring once you get your first 80.

Look at my signature. Count how many characters I have.

Most of them are created after the new trait system has been implemented.

And you did not find the repetition tedious?

I don’t find the repetition tedious.

If I really need that specific trait or I have empty slots, I go to the profession trainer. I only need a minimum of 7 traits. Every other traits is cosmetic.

Traits are a distraction and a side quest away from the repetitive heart quests.

So what you are saying is that you DO NOT have every trait unlocked on all 28 of your characters? Because each profession has 65 traits not just 7 and “anything over 7 unlocked is just cosmetic.” If you don’t have all 65 traits unlocked then you can’t experiment and find new and better builds for yourself.

This. The new system quashes any real experimentation with traits, the old system (bless it’s glorious soul) was way better in that aspect.

Boss Wyvern too easy?

The nightmares of that game. It was Dark Souls before Dark Souls. The bonecrushing difficulty of Vagrant Story is legendary, where you had to master all systems to have a good chance of survival…save for the final boss, Mr. “I’ll only take 1 damage from everything”. <_<

I don’t know what you were doing, I was doing at least double digits reliably. The problem was how slim a timing window you had while you could actually swing versus how often he would attack.

Oh, and how to dispose of Risk before “Bloody Sin” launched.

It’s been a few years since I played, I don’t think I ever mastered the crafting system. I know for a fact a good blade would have let me get through that fight easily, a shame I didn’t have one. :/

don´t worry, as soon as the content is available, you will have enough people in here declaring how this boss is totally unbeatable, though it is not hard, of cause, it just haves some unfair/gimmicky/annyoing mechanic :P

Oh of course I’m expecting qq from the entitled crowd. Yet after having my share of tequatl runs and TT on a lesser extend, I can see what makes a boss dangerous and what does not.

With this wyvern, I saw lots of attacks threatening people in FRONT of the wyvern but not so much threatening people on its back. I saw no tail swipe, back breath or claw attack. That means that the safest position to take down the wyvern is melle on the back. As soon as it turns around, just dodge and here you go. I’ll feel safer if the wyvern had some sort of security to make meleeing more risky.

Or we’ll end up with this but with 100 players instead of one.

Sounds like they need to pull some tricks with it, like how some of the bosses do in FFXIV. The front is the most dangerous side of the boss? So you think, but if you stay behind it too long a fast AoE will come your way that does massive damage. Oh you think the sides are fine? It’s normal attack cleaves all over those sides so people there will get hit. Oh you think range will help you? Say hello to multiple AoE fields and long range circle AoE attacks!
