Will base classes get Taunt/Slow/Resistance?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

I’m assuming the new boon stops the condition completely, it’s effect and timer, once the boon wears off the condition resumes at the same stack and timer it stopped at.

The reference to the Warrior’s Berserker’s Stance and how that functions actually implies immunity to conditions for “x” seconds. In other words, no damage and no effects while the Resistance boon is up. I implied this to mean that the duration effect clock still keeps ticking while this boon is up so the the Fear condition continues as well.

If the boon expires (or is removed), then the Fear would continue with its effect as normal.

The Resistance Boon sounds like a great counter to an ever-increasing heavy variety of condition meta but only if its tied to low cooldown utilities.

Single condition removal utilities/abilities are becoming even more laughable.

By the Khan-Ur, what if they add this to the healing abilities that suck?

So you are saying that Rytlock went back in time to teach us how to be Revenet’s?…

No, something far easier. When he became a Revenant, his power echo’d throughout the Mists, touching the past and future simultaneously, awakening all Revenants to their power.

That is ridiculous… they aren’t Death knights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCr7y4SLhck) they are Revenants.

My main is a charr and I’m very happy with how the animations were designed. It’s a breath of fresh air to see something different and consistent.

It’s just a thought. I like the animations too but it’s just always off seeing a charr character having to go all fours just to go somewhere close.

Considering our characters actually run faster than the normal NPC charr, it makes perfect sense that we run on all fours.

RyuDragnier.9476

Hey folks,

Now that the HOT is out of the bag, we’re able to update this thread with more details. With the introduction of the new account based mastery system for end-game progression and growth in PvE, we’ll also be re-evaluating our other systems of character progression to ensure they match our over-all pillars and goals for Gw2.

In doing so: we’re going to be removing the current trait unlocking system currently on live and replacing it with a more simplified system that supports where skills-traits-specializations are going in the future. We’ll go into more details between now and the release of HOT on how skills, traits, and specializations will work in the new Gw2 world.

Thank you for all your passionate feedback on this topic – it not only helped our dev team lead to this decision, but has played a large role in helping us define how to build our exciting new account based mastery system for end-game progression in PvE as well.

Thank the Khan-Ur for this! Tell us when this will go live, I need this fix!

“We won’t have an expansion because we can add everything through the Living Story”

Well, clearly they couldn’t.

The fact ArenaNet is making an expansion is the best proof of how flawed the Living Story concept was. The “novel” way of adding content to a MMORPG has been forced to give place to the good, old expansion system.

ArenaNet better hope it’s not too little, too late. After the failure in China, they cannot afford to fail, again.

Or it’s showing that they’re using the Living Story to tide us over until the expansion, with the LS leading into and up to the expansion, with the story continuing with it.

RyuDragnier.9476

So inconsistent…

That’s part of my complaint. The other is: “So how exactly does doing this relate to the Trait Mastery getting unlocked?”

At least with Elite Skills your target would use it. (This was a considerable problem with some of them.) After they changed the capture system, it was not too bad but the initial one was even more BS than Traits are now.

How?

You had to have the Signet of Capture ready, and you needed to hit it while targeting the user, while they were using it. For some of the Elites I just can’t see how that worked at all.

I’m not sure when you stopped playing GW1… But all you had to do was have the Signet of Capture, kill the boss and use the signet on their corpse. A menu would pop up that would allow you to select the skill you want to take, which would usually be an elite skill. It’s way easier to capture skills in GW1 than it is to obtain traits in GW2.

Originally Signets of Capture worked like Tobias explained, prior to the June 8th, 2005 update, this skill had to be activated at the same time the targeted boss activated the desired skill. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Game_updates/20050608

that’s almost 10 years ago, it’s time you keep up with the times.

Galphar was explaining something that Tobias posted. It’s time you kept up with the thread.

it still happened 10 years ago, it’s time you get the point.

No the point is that before the April Trait patch people were asking for something like the Signet of Capture for Elite Skills in GW. What we got was the Trait revamp. Now IF they had gone the capture signet route then, IMHO, we wouldn’t have this 70+ page thread complaining about the changes to how we get traits.

That might have been interesting. A boss with the trait you need that’s is strong enough to be a challenge but soloable. Defeating him gives you the trait. No need to depend on bugged events and if they respawn at a normal rate, then waiting time is minimal.

I would have rather they kept traits how they were and made the World Bosses have Elite Skills for us to capture. I still remember creating a new Necromancer in GW and getting a Droks run so I could go capture Spiteful Spirit.

I can picture that. Fire Elemental for Elementalists, Golem MkII for Engineers, Shadow Behemoth for Necromancers, Karka Queen for Guardians, The Shatterer for Mesmers, Jungle Wurm for Rangers, Admiral Taidha Covington for Thieves, and the Sand Giant for Warriors.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

Crafting? FFXIV has some of the best.

This is . . . kind of the only thing which makes me sad about dropping my subscription. That crafting was entertaining.

I’m leveling all the crafters and finishing up on the gatherers right now. Crafting can get addictive, but because I’m lazy I’m pretty much using the Ixal daily quests (crafter beast tribe) along with the Provisioning and Supply for the Grand Companies to level up all the crafters faster. My goal is everything at level 50 before the expansion comes out later this year.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

IMHO, FFXIV > GW2 right now for me. Why? Because I’m actually having fun there more compared to GW2, but that’s because the trait system changes from April destroyed the best thing about GW2, making alts. Many things also came to mind.

Crafting? FFXIV has some of the best.

Battles? While it’s basic Holy Trinity, people have to KNOW their classes to avoid bringing down the party since 1 person dying can completely wipe a group. Here in GW2, 1 person regardless of class can do an entire fight by themselves, so there is no real need to get better. You suck? Another person will pick up the slack.

Dungeons? 29 of them (will be 32 on the 20th), each different with their own unique mechanics.

Raids? Two 24 man raids with another coming on the 20th, plus 13 ‘floors’ of the superdungeon known as Binding Coil of Bahamut, which requires skill to survive.

If the trait system here in GW2 had never had the April patch that destroyed it, I’d be playing both of these games equally, simply because I had fun here before that patch and I have fun in FFXIV. But right now? Sorry, GW2 doesn’t have my heart and money, FFXIV does.

It is reminiscent to the GW1’s skillbooks.

Here is how it works:

  • Adept Traits- Any mob can drop it.
  • Master Traits- Any Champion mob can drop it.
  • Grandmaster Traits- Any Legendary boss can drop it.

If the character already unlocked a certain trait book, then that character will not get that trait book ever again.

Pro:

  • More choices. Plus it’ll make loot tables more interesting.
  • Any additions to the trait system can’t be bad.

Cons:

  • It won’t revert to the old system.

Works for me, simply because if they won’t revert the system, then we must adjust it.

Traits matter to some classes as you are leveling. I have felt this pain firsthand with a Mesmer (I want to do JPs with my wife on her mesmer).

I gave this system the benefit of the doubt and tried it out via leveling a Guardian with full traits..

I hated most of the process and vowed to not do it again.

However, as I said, I decided to roll a Mesmer. Playing this toon with no traits was much more painful than a Guardian. It was painful enough that I bought my trait tree.

People who say that we don’t “need” traits at lower levels are correct… technically. However, if you want to level alone, or have to level alone, you are going to feel the pain. For classes like this, while its true that you may not need traits during leveling, without them you are going to have a much more difficult and less enjoyable time.

Even with a buddy, the experience was painful. Most of the trait unlocks were above our level, and it made our play time very disjointed.

It must be pain when someone took your toys away but I can not imagine possessing all traits by level, let’s say 30 0_o it would be game destroying IMO. Sorry but honestly I do not get what all fuss is about but I have feeling that you all want “easy” time. Now everything must be “casual friendly”, “easy”, “buy it now”, “have all now” to me it’s fun when there is challenge, and you have to think how to get something/there/ et cetera.
I wish old times come back, where every game was hard

edit:
there is solution, make suggestion to create item in store “one click to 80

You must be new to the game, meaning after the trait changes. Previously the second you gained access to a different tier of a traitline (Adept, Master, Grandmaster), the traits in that traitline immediately became available. Here’s how it was before.

1. Hit level 11, buy an Adept trait book from the trainer and use it. Grats, you have the traitlines unlocked.
2. Every level (or 5), you put a point into a traitline. By level 15, you unlocked your first minor trait, at 20 you unlock your first adept trait. Pick any adept trait (I-VI) and equip it.
3. Repeat until level 40 (if I remember clearly) with multiple traitlines and buy the Master trait book from the trainer. Grats, you can now have an adept and a master trait in any traitline (up to a total of 3 traits equippable), get one of them to that point and equip one of the new traits (VII-X).
4. Repeat until level 60 with multiple traitlines and buy the Grandmaster trait book from the trainer. Grats, all traits are now available to you. Start planning your build and experimenting, because you can have 5 traits equipped now.
5. Reach level 80, capping out and having access to 7 different traits to be equipped at once.

That’s how it used to work. Sure you had the traits the second you could use them, but the second you got them you started experimenting with them, understanding how each one could work, planning ahead builds for various situations. The traits were a reward for leveling and you could experiment with them easily, regardless of whether you just crafted your way up, PVE’d, or played WvW religiously for the levels.

Now not so much, since you have to unlock them all one by one. This current system feels like we’re being punished for some reason, and squashes experimentation because we CAN’T experiment without going through an extra grind just to get the traits unlocked.

Not having to go out to do X for Y trait is what made this game fun, because I could still do what I wanted to, and make numerous amounts of alts since the power of my character and myself was easily obtainable, and I was able to discover new builds by trying things out with new classes with minimal money spent. Now I cannot without spending a fortune I DO NOT HAVE, and I’ve already maxed out the map 8 times total. I don’t foresee me paying Anet anymore…they’ve gone the way of SWG.

RyuDragnier.9476

How about you…. Go through look up what traits you think you might want? And unlock those first to try out your build. Or go into Heart of the mists and play around in there with different ones until you find some you like. Then either go out and collect THOSE traits doing whatever it takes to get them or simply buy them? And then later on get more as you grow with learning your new profession. Its not that expensive at all. You prepared the tomes and crafting mats/money to level why didn’t you go all the way with skill point scrolls and the needed money for the traits?

I’ve made several new characters and while I don’t really care for the new trait system there are ways around it.

Until the meta changes, at which point you have to buy the new ones anyway just to try out the new builds. It doesn’t help the real problem, the problem we’ve been trying to get Anet to fix for 8 months.

Why Anet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

So if someone doesn’t like something in the game they shouldn’t tell ANet that they dislike it in hopes that they’ll change it?

At least Zefrost had a possible solution to the problem to post with his complaint about the traits situation.

The current system does punish having alts. It punishes the players who want to experiment with builds and not just follow one set build all of the time.

Zefrost at least realized that ANet is likely not going to do a complete reversal of the April Trait change and offered a compromise.

The issues is complaining something of his own doing. He can’t expect A-Net to change the game because he made a Bad choice. I am not saying how the game is set up is all that good but it is what it is. NPE to me even though I am rather new to the game I think is the biggest bunch of crap. I lets people level with hardly having any real challenge. If one choses to take a easier route.

The trait unlock system isn’t the NPE doing. NPE was in September. Trait unlocks were given to us with the April Feature pack.

Yes, I have little sympathy for the fact that he leveled up without realizing what it would mean trait wise. Especially given how the system has been around for 8 months now.

That being said, he still has a point with his complaint and suggesting what he did. I myself I’m dreading playing unlock traits for new characters I create and I’ve been leveling them up by playing the game. And I’ve created 2 characters since I got them first one.

Threatening to not recommend the game to his friends over it however is extreme. He would have likely had at least some traits had he leveled up not through the tomes. At least if he didn’t craft the entire way (buying the materials needed).

He’s spot on though dealing with traits. We have to go so far out of our way for these things and spend so much money and skill points that there’s no point creating anything other than a single character, the cost is too much.

The trait system as is happens to be broken. They pulled a Microsoft, changing what didn’t need to be changed and breaking it in the process. They need to fix the trait system, using one of the many recommendations we gave in the Traits thread.

One of which was to change the unlocks to actual unlocks that are similar to what you’re after. Such as Necromancers using Wells a ton of times before they get the Well upgrades, Mesmers using Glamours a ton before they get the Glamour trait upgrades, etc.

Suggestions to Better Thief Class

in Thief

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

I’d like assassin’s equilibrium to grant 1 second of stability at the beginning of a dodge roll. Optionally it could also increase the movement distance of the dodge roll by 50% (making it 450). This would allow for better repositioning and be useful against wards /walls.

SoA doesn’t need the endurance regen bumped down, but it certainly could use the number of conditions removed bumped up by 1.

DB doesn’t need the bleeds changed, but it definitely needs a rework of the pre/post cast and the evade frames.

DD could definitely use a projectile speed buff.

The rest I’m neutral on or don’t think they need a change.

I agree with you here, especially on DB. The only reason why it isn’t used by anything other than condition is because of the low evasion frame (and the high burst capabilities of CnD and BS). Fix the evasion frame, meaning make it longer and start earlier, and the skill will become better for all.

Rytlock - Secondary Profession?

in Living World

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

It would be interesting if we got a new profession though, as we are “missing” a third heavy class. But the question you’d have to ask is what role would that profession fill? Between warrior and guardian, there’s not anything really needed that I can see from offensive and defensive. About the only thing you could give a heavy class they don’t have is more heavy condition application and boon stripping game play, which is what light professions and even some medium professions do. It would be interesting to try and balance that with heavy armor.

I can actually picture Rytlock doing this, mostly because he likes to be the toughest charr on the block.

Rytlock - Secondary Profession?

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Secondary professions are incredibly unlikely. They’d involve rebalancing every single aspect of the game. The addition of a new profession would involve far less rebalancing and is a little more likely.

Maybe, unless they make it so you get 1 heal skill, 4 skill slots, and 1 elite from that class. Maybe 1 weapon your class normally doesn’t have, and no traits. Meaning you’re just taking a few things from the class. It’d also be way easier to balance, since the skills they’d have to balance are incredibly limited.

Dat new rytlock armor tho!

in Living World

I am more curious as to why a heavy class is wearing some pieces from light armor. New class!

Blindfold for Rytlock. Spirit-enchanted weapon for Marjory. Ritualists confirmed.
(and Cantha by extension!)

I would love to see a final heavy armor class, and I hope this is a hint to it.

He lookes more kitten than he already did. Whats whit that red Glowy Thing? Is he converted/corrupted in any way?

Considering his blindfold has a symbol, I think it’s more that he got training from wherever his sword sent him. He may have the power to deal with the threat of Mordremoth now. Hopefully his personality hasn’t changed.

I’m not a charr guy so I wouldn’t know… But I’m assuming that’s a new armor set? Please do correct me if I am wrong

It’s definitely a new armor set, and I want it badly now.

I hope at the least this is fixed by the 1-year mark. Considering there are a lot of players who are unhappy and haven’t played as much since it was introduced, it’d be the perfect time to fix it. And please, let it be either you switch it to where only the GM traits need unlocking, or do it like many have asked, to where you have to do things related to the actual trait.

America, how about no to that suggestion. The problem right now is that the entire process is far too tedious. And I’m sure most people have no been buying gems to convert into gold…they’ve stopped buying from the store in general because they’ve lost the will to play.

Even from the, “more meaningful progression from 30 to 80,” standpoint it was a fail. They removed traits from characters within that range (reverse progression) and left a bunch of levels empty in that range. Before a trait point each level wasn’t generally a game changer, but it was at least something. With a bigger something that could be a game changer every five levels.

It sometimes WAS a game changer. Just 1 point in the tougness traitline of any class caused immediately noticeable changes to newer players. They saw themselves taking less damage, so it felt like to them that they were indeed getting stronger. Hell, a single point in the power traitline did the same thing, except with them killing things faster. That old system had some of my best memories, because I knew all it took was a few points in the toughness traitline and I’d start to see myself surviving enough to solo more content. Ahh memories, back when I could be an altaholic and throw all of my money at Anet~

Those people should play Dark Souls lol.

I wish everyone would play and appreciate Dark Souls from an academic perspective; both players and devs.

They don’t even need to play that. Play some Nintendo and SNES games, those were back when games were actually difficult and challenged you. I still have problems with a lot of them to this day. Battletoads. T_T

How to counter a thief..

in Thief

RyuDragnier.9476

So…did this thief actually manage to kill any of your party members? If all he’s doing is hitting a dolyak, stealthing and then coming back to kill it off then you’re not gonna be able to do much about it.

A good thief will be hard to catch, an amazing thief will run you in circles all day and lure you off one by one for kills. If he’s not killing any of you then don’t really see the problem, he’s just being a nuisance if anything. And if you do go off one by one after him then that’s your funeral. Besides throwing down some aoes and hoping he’s stupid enough to stay in it…just move along really. If you can get some decent CCs going you might be able to keep him grounded long enough to kill him.

Pretty much this.

Though if it was a trolling thief, no wonder you couldn’t kill him. I’ve met a few trolling thieves, they’ll do no damage because they’re just messing with you, making you run after them to have some fun. They don’t really contribute anything, and are nigh unkillable in return. If that’s the type you were fighting, you’re fine.

So....Caithe...(SPOILERS!!!)

My bet is that Caithe is taking it someplace to where the child can be hatched quickly, or she’s attempting to bring it back to the Pale Tree so it can gain her knowledge. The Pale Tree seems to know everything, and if the egg hatches and gains her knowledge, it may gain the exact thing it needs to become an ally. It makes sense, especially if the Pale Tree told Caithe everything was going to happen. After all, the Pale Tree has one hell of a Poker Face.

MoMo, I gave a similar suggestion as yours back in May for fixing the trait unlocks…and it’s gotten no hits from Anet. I understand Guhracie’s irritation with them, because right now it’s around the same for me, I’m playing this game far less than I used to, to the point where I’m not even logged in on Day 1 of the new Living Story chapters, and that’s bad. Before the LS was keeping me going, but now I’m finding myself wondering why I’m even doing them when there’s nothing driving me to keep playing, like making alts once did before the trait patch.

We’re all incredibly irritated because this should have been fixed months ago, the entire system has gotten such negative feedback from across the board that it should have been either scrapped, reverted, or adjusted to where it’s far better than before. Hell, a simple account bound unlock would have done the trick, so you could get a XIII trait for the Vitality traitline unlocked on a Guardian, and have that XIII trait also unlocked for your Ranger’s Vitality traitline.

But right now we are getting no major responses from Anet, not even a “we understand, we’re currently trying to fix this for the next feature patch”. We’re getting nothing of substance, and the game is losing a ton of players because of it, and NOBODY who likes this game wants it to go down in flames.

Rytlock: My Journey Has Only Just Begun

in Living World

I think the fact that Zhaitan and Mordremoth are opposing forces suggests that, much as Sylvari were immune to Zhaitan’s corruption and Caladbolg played a large role in weaking Zhaitan, artifacts and beings of Death will be critical for fighting Mawdrymouth.

Ritualist abilities were concerned with ancestral spirits and such. I think Ritualist magic is going to return (at least as NPC abilities) and play a large role in defeating M. Marjory has always had a connection with ghosts (and is of Canthan descent), and now wields a ghostly blade.

I think while Rytlock is in the Mists, he is going to be impressed into service as an Envoy (as Shiro was before him). Once we rescue him, he can use that ability, along with his sword, to pull an Aragorn with the ghosts of the Foefire, in exchange for helping to free them from the curse and send them to their proper place in the afterlife. Might be very late in the season, given how much of a game-changer it would be.

This would be the greatest moment ever.

I have a feeling this season will change all of Destiny’s Edge and possibly Tyria completely. A picture just showed up on Twitter dealing with Caithe. It looks like she will either die or she will fall to Nightmare or under Mordremoth’s control. The end of this season can’t get hyped up any more than this.

rapid fire shouldn't track through stealth

sorry, there is a diffrences betwin having a 5 seconds channel skill to 1 sec channel skill(lol). You may dodge it when you see it coming, but when the ranger is not in your LOS you pretty much screwed.Rangers abusing RF with quickness just liek thieves abused backstabs with the assassins signet in launch, bot backstab and the signet nerfed hard,I dont see why RF and the quickness thingy shouldnt be nerfed.

PS->I dont even mention that rangers can RF from stealth..

RF is already on a 2,5 sec channel. Who would waste a slot for QZ just to fire one 1,25 sec RF off every 48/60 seconds?

Belive it or not, rangers abuse it in wvw.

They usually die seconds later as a result.
