Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
If the game was to continued business as usual then the strategy would pay off (At least there’s a 95% chance of it paying off according to my calculations and strategy – could end up in the unlucky 5% still but as you say business is a gamble, you place your money and win or lose – a strong knowledge of mathematics and a degree in physics though go a long way to ensuring the numbers are on your side)
My gripe is that the developers intervened in the economy. This riding on the back of another huge mess caused by the market inflation the last week which is also a direct result of Arenanet intervention. I wonder where John Smith stands on all this economic shenanigans; this thread might’ve been better placed in the BLTP forum. I can’t figure out what arenanet is trying to do with their trading post; it’s complexity goes far beyond any mere auctionhouse, yet they’re being too hands on for the economy to properly establish itself.
I’m just getting a little fed up of arenanet moving all my business and class goalposts and kicking me in the kitten patch after patch after patch – if this next patch doesn’t work out I’m done.

Go to Thaumanova reactor, which is sawrming with all kinds of beasts thanks to the chaos magic then go run east into the woods a couple region along from it, there’s tonnes of trees and ore along that route.
Can get msot the daily done in minutes
So, on one side we have players who got their precursors early and while I’d feel a bit robbed if I were them they did as people say “get their’s early for their investment” (Still doesn’t seem like a fair trade)
And on the other hand you have the masses cheering that they soon will have precursors far easier and cheaper (If getting the other 60% of the stuff is made easier too it’ll be even more salt in the wound)
But, what about those of us who’ve fallen down the gap? – have sunk lots of money into getting a precursor/legend, but never obtained one. Are we meant to cheer that we’ll never see a return on that investment, nor reap the so called benefits of being early adopters? (The precursor/legend materials market has already begun to devalue ahead of speculation)
- A concerned, and much poorer citizen than last week
I couldn’t care less. I have all the materials I need
And this is why GW2 is going to hurt itself. Apathy
Annoy a small fraction or previously contented players with each patch so they end up leaving, in order to please a whiny minority who are unappeasable anyway (At first it was dungeons were too hard, now legends are too rare, next the is porridge too hot and the bed too soft), but since the majority doesn’t get crapped on with each patch that’s ok right?
Well… no.
Because the players who were on-board with the GW2 manifesto aren’t the ones whining, they’re also the core you want to keep, because appeasing whining just leads to more whining as it proves to the player base they can manipulate the devs into doing things they want that may not be good for the game’s integrity overall (ie. making the best armour only available in dungeons)
I can see you read the part about my guilds opinion and skipped straight to my comments on the vocal “minority” and completely ignored my concerns for the economy which is my personal concern and standpoint on all this.
I don’t give a rats kitten about how common the skins are, more common the better in fact from my standpoint as a trader. More people to sell to
The economy is already pretty shaken up, lot of traders getting fed up and pissed off with their markets being constantly crushed and having to find new business opportunities (Which are getting slimmer with each shake-up). Killing the precursor market WILL have a profound impact on the game economy and that’ll end in another big economic shake-up.
Do you enjoy economic instability and skyrocketting prices of essential items?
Oh the Irony.. You all got what you wanted… And now a new thread will open about everyone whining about mat prices which will go through the roof…
*Grabs popcorn, getting ready for Act 2
Not all of us
I’m happy with the current system. Most my guild feels legendaries are already too common (When you see two guys with legends in the same event on the same server at the same time, that’s already too common. The game’s only been out 3 months!)
And then there’s good business buying and selling precursors. If the precursors become easier to obtain, that’ll teabag the precursor market so that the rich stay rich and nobody else can join the rich elite club because there’s nothing on the market that can earn you triple-figure sums.
Then people’ll continue to kitten about they can’t join the rich club and you know what… it’ll been their own kitten fault. I’m just fed up the whining majority dragging me with them, leave me out of it.
Prices like these were seen in the early days of GW2 before the bot influx. They’re simply returning to “normal” levels are being depressed by a flood of supply.
Be wary about speculating, some of the inflation may be caused by speculators who once they realise the price rise is slowing, will dump their stock back onto the market. Prices rarely rise and stabilise; more frequently they are elastic and ping back up higher than is sustainable then collapse again possibly with a rebound until the market is in equilibirum.
They better tread realllllly carefully with this update. Legendaries are already pretty common, only yesterday we saw 2 people in the same party on the same server with legends
I’ve spent a lot of gold trying to get a precursor to no effect. They nerf my class nigh every patch yet fix none of it’s bug, and they’re introducing gear creep when it was a manifesto promise that this wouldn’t be the case.
If they suddenly make precursors ten a penny, slap more nerfs, fail to fix more bugs and address serious balance issues and then add a new layer of gear to boot; I won’t be around for the next patch.
There’s only so many times you can beat on a customer and expect them to come back for more.

For the asura on a budget, the acolyte exotic set (3-4 gold for the entire set) is quite sleek and refined and if obtained around the level 75-79 mark also serves as a near perfect set of end game gear, being only a few points off a set of level 80 exotics for a fraction of the price.
There’s nothing wrong with the T1 armour and the T2 headpiece can look quite neat.
The generic karma reward outfit is a popular one too, and if you’re game for something more mysterious and mystical, the Order of Whisper’s light armour delivers
I doubt you really are a mesmer as countering this is trivial. (if you are, then you’re a bad mesmer and should be ashamed :p)
Decoy, or Mass invis – you’ve now dumped your target lock and they have to find you again in order to repeat the process.
A lot of NPC’s use legacy version versions of spells that are essentially how they behaved in beta.
In early beta, clones used to do damage; which incidentlly is why mesmer’s have the rather redundant trait “illusions do 15% damage” in addition to “phantasms do 15% damage”, even though clones do no damage and therefore giving them a trait that boosts their damage is pointless
i wonder who they got this feedback from?
Well, I know quite a few friends leaving GW2 because as much as they like the IDEA of no grind. The reality is they can’t find goals of their own to keep them playing; they need their skinner box to keep lighting lights and dropping food pellets
Farming is mesmers biggest; no, ONLY weakness. If you run a shatter build and work your kitten off, you can come away with some loot in busy Orrian dynamic events.
But mesmer will forever be the runt of the farming litter, having to put out twice the effort for a fraction of the loot.
Mesmers have a tonne of reflects as well so I’ve tended to notice this.
Sorrow’s Embrace:
1 – Dredge Ratkin – Their main rifle attack is reflectable and does decent damage
2 – Dredge Reverberators – Their sonic rifle attack can be reflected and it’s AoE will damage nearby dredge too (though it’s not very strong)
3 – Inquest Assault Bots – Their gatling laser barrage can be reflected for massive damage (Seen it exceed 18k Vs the champion assault bot)
4 – Inquest Grenadiers – Grenades can be reflected for significant AoE damage
5 – Inquest Supervisors – Their basic ranged attack is reflectable for low damage
6 – Kudu – Most of his attacks are pistol based and reflectable
7 – Prototype Golems – The fire and poison golem’s dart volleys are completely reflectable. Not only does this do a lot of damage to the bot, but spares your party from it’s wrath.
Ascalon Catacombs:
1 – Rangers – Their bow attack is reflectable, which needless to say takes a LOT of pressure off the team.
2 – First explorable boss – His spinning grapple attack is reflectable, since he throws several projectiles it’s quite common for him to yank HIMSELF onto the floor and knock himself down.
3 – Graveling Breeders – Hilariously, if a graveling breeder “births” a baby into a reflection screen, the baby “bounces” and becomes yours and acts like a pet for it’s short lifespan xD.
4 – Elementalists – Their basic fireball attack is reflectable (Though this isn’t such a big deal as their unreflectable foefire firestorm)
I spent a week hardcore playing WvW and two things grated on me:
1) Zergs were too effective. Far too frequently it was a simple case of “smash the door down with an overwhelming amount of warm bodies”. There wasn’t much strategy involved.
2) The rewards in the end wern’t worth it. After fighting super hard for a week and finally winning it what’s the reward?… oh… there isn’t. You’re just meant to be happy with your repair bills some random greens and a sense of satisfaction.
…so, yeah. I won’t be spending much time in WvW from now on.
A lot of people don’t realise that isn’t the end of the conversation :p
Shortly after the nearby robot pipes up “Warning. Target hostile” at the male asura, followed by "Error: " (can’t remember the exact error message, but basiclly realises it’s mistake and stands down proving her point).
Female Peacemarker: “Have a great day now”
Male Peacemaker: “Was that a threat or a prediction ¬_¬”

As a Mesmer I’m screwed in Orr, farming is not an option. So I took to trading.
I made good gold even if my class kept being nerfed every patch.
The sudden up-swell in price of T5 materials and ecto has destroyed my old business crafting exotics, but such is my life story in this game i looked for alternatives and carried on – this time moving onto a new business strategy of trying to build precursors for resale (On paper it’s a good investment idea and i have the funds to make it happen).
If these new changes suddenly kick the value of precursors in the head before i get any return on this investment and destroy yet another business venture I’ll probably just give up playing. There’s only so many times you can kick a player down by moving the goalposts and expect them to get back up.
Nerf my class, nerf my business opportunities, nerf my entertainment value and all you’re left with is an electrified skinner box (Push lever to not recieve pain)

Someone plays a thief.
Are you the guy at 5:19? – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ3L1z9obAw&hd=1&t=5m19s
Looking at Op’s posting history he seems to be a warrior main
I do agree a little with OP’s feeling. If the only real meaningful reward is the badges you get for kills and the karma/gold/xp for completing the sub-missions then maybe i shouldn’t waste so much time and resources taking and keep forts and instead spend more time tipping yaks and ganking stragglers.
Yah, I’m pretty sure the Asura T3 sword is bugged. I’ve reported it as such – every Asura T3 weapon except the spear (Which also seems to be bugged) and sword has purple lightning across it’s leading edge in place of a blade and a purple hazy glow on it’s gems
But I’ve reported several visual bugs with Asura since BWE3 (Such as the dwayna gloves being stretched beyond ridiculousness) and it’s never been addressed. I’m willing to bet it’ll be many many months if not years before it gets fixed.
Rofl, I love it. I hope they don’t change it
I was actually discussing this with one of my thief friends earlier, I myself had noticed it was odd we have so much defensive stuff and hitpoints yet i still pack enough spike damage to blast an ele or thief into downed in a single unblockable alpha strike.
What we concluded though is that nerfing mesmer’s hitpoints would basically render them completely unplayable in PvE, especially given mobs tendancy to ignore their clones
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more sources of lodestones introduced. 2g per lodestone is just not realistic; the fundamental cause of that is that right now there isn’t many mobs that drop charged crafting mats; supply is far far FAR below demand
It’s hit the crafting industry hard the price hike.
With reduced supply the market can no longer support so many crafters, which in turn increases competition for materials and reduces margins for us. Of course, I realised this day would come when the bots and their immense supply of cheap resources would be cast out of Tyria but, as a mesmer (And thus have trouble farming in dynamic events) it’s a pretty big hit to my potential sources of income.
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you’re alive
I’m an indestructible master of war!
My friend on the other hand likes listening to Dragonforce and all their songs are about losing valiantly, and he wonders he he dies so often :p
I really don’t much like the largos we got in the game. Their concept art was far more alien and appropriate:
http://i47.tinypic.com/2061n5d.png
More manta ray, less night elf
Impossible, the sedition inhibitor prevents any kind of insurgent behaviour.
badges are useless… it doesnt matter.
You need 500 badges as part of creating a legendary weapon. So if you plan to get a legend they certainly won’t be useless.
nwn wasn´t more of a rpg than GW2. What made it rpg were the enthusiastic people running servers and gamemastering campaigns in nwn.
NWN was fundamentally engineered around roleplaying. It had a dungeon master interface so that it could replicate it’s D&D roots, to all intents and purposes NWN was dungeons and dragon with dice rolls handled autonomously and 3d graphics instead of DM’s descriptions.
And Dungeons and Dragons is the WoW of RPG’s – maybe not the first or best, but certainly the most well known.
This sounds about right. I’ve only been WvWing for 1 week. I have around 450 kills and only 50 badges, I’m pretty sure alt + f4 isn’t the cause, if someone bails you don’t get the kill credit either. So all those kills are people you took an active role in killing
Not sure a skeleton crew will do.
I’ve seen nighttime raids by CD of 40 or 50 people. Usually highly co-ordinated – like they’ll set up 5 or 6 catapults in seconds and blast through the outer wall before a defence can be mounted.
But you’re right, with YB and TC standing their ground maybe they’ll be that much slower and less capable of taking and holding overnight ground. Either way, this is going to be an interesting week
Someone would argue that recruiting lots of Asian and European guilds for the sole purpose of doing most the fighting by night is unsportsmanlike, but as my personal favourite quote goes:
“If you’re fighting a fair fight, you need to rethink your strategy”
I think CD has won in the past against TC for this very reason.
Well, this week TC flattened CD almost 2 points to 1 despite their night zerging. So that alone isn’t enough to win they need the 3rd party to be able to prevent TC having daytime dominance, while the 3rd party also has the night-time blindspot that TC suffers.
Alternatively of course, YB might prove to a powerhouse and simply flattens TC whereby they’ll probably win the same way TC did in the TC/CD/HoD fight. Or YB might turn out to actually have a big enough night crew to give the CD night crew a challenge, in which case who knows how it’ll turn out.
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
We might well end up with CD winning through nightcapping if YB and TC end up locking horns during daytime hours preventing a de-facto board takeover but can’t mount a defence against CD’s night zergs either
There’s plenty of RP going down on tarnished coast. Though admittedly the inability to use skills amongst even willing participants puts some limits on things and deters me a little, internal conflict is ultimately resolved in a way more akin to a forum RP with pure talking than any kind’ve actions like pre- MMO RPGs would allow
Don’t be so quick to assume the suicide is to avoid you getting the kill.
Yesterday I got pinned on a wall by massive AoE during a siege, I realised I was about to bleed out and be downed and if I did it there I’d be stuck up there and the fort would have even less defenders (We were already outnumber 6 or 7 to one), and running back was not an option, so I hopped off the wall and took an epic faceplant so that I could be revived behind cover; which worked. After which I was able to focus down the attacker’s siege which let us hold the fort til reinforcements arrived)
Of course, the crystal desert attackers could just as easily surmised I was denying them the kill by ending my own life when the decision was entirely for strategic reasons.
You’re not the only one pondering this. There is that anomaly in the mid tier armour stats, then again at final tier where Valkyries set provides +crit but no +precision. Crit damage is pointless without precision unless you’re one of the few classes that can stack significant crit chance bonuses through traits and abilities.
At the final tier of items you have Berserker’s set though which is the powerful glass cannon Power/Precision/Crit holy trinity.
Yeah i loved this, especially since on my Charr alt me and a friend had been discussing the events in Lornar’s Pass pondering their nature and origin; turns out I actually guessed it almost perfectly but got the source wrong (I suspected the inquest in a parallel timeline of universe).
It even fits my character perfectly, when I created them I had envisioned my character having illusions of grandeur with the plan to literally change the world. Only to find their personal story backs it up and it’s no illusion
I’m glad to see people’ve found something to complain about besides Mesmers
Yeah I’ve seen this before. I called out some kitten for training in /map (I survived the train which included a champion), and proceeded to get a lot of replies to the affect opf “l2p, qq moar” etc follwoed by two guys following me about delibratily training (Again still failing to kill me but it was pretty annoying and prime example of how not to be a good citizen.)
Long story short, daylight saving times are used by northern/southern latitudes to compensate for the fact their daylight hours become significantly shorter in the winter months.
As you approach equatorial latitudes the relative length of days are more stable and thus you don’t need DST. Just how pronouncedthe difference is can be quite a shock if you travel much :p
There is many ways for Mesmers to apply retaliation:
- Trait that causes retaliation on block.
- Trait that grants retaliation after using cry of frustration
- Chaos storm
- Phantasm’s can be traited to inflict retaliation when hit.
- Phantasmal Defender when traited shares damage and procs retaliation (supposedly)
@Schwahrheit: I love how you make it sound like you can achieve all things by just rolling your face on a keyboard. Do you really think you can sustain retaliation, block all attacks turn invisible, set up huge damage spikes, lockdown an enemy or any of these other things mesmer are routinely accused of using just mashing a few keys; or for that matter, with a single build?
Airships
Make air superiority a part of the game
Yes it’s quite well documented I accidentally bought the Charr T2 chestpiece. It’s no double click – clicking "RMB → preview "too fast causes it to both preview AND buy the item.
Anet says they’ve bringing in a confirmation popup in the near future, in the meantime they arn’t willing to do refunds.
Well, i`ll only be considering the T3 asura outfit when it doesnt make me bald.
Just because Zojja has no hair, doesnt mean i want to shave mine off too.
That’s fine, you’re an ugly asura anyway
(Supposedly Asura like big heads and shapely ears. So presumably a shaven head therefore has analogies to shaving certain parts of human anatomy to make them more attractive…)
Don’t underestimate those sharks – they’re trained killers AND lifesavers

In no less than 3 occasions I’ve used phase retreat and ended up stuck IN THE CEILING… I’m not sure whether to call this a net improvement on getting stuck in the floor.
Ceiling Asura is watching you…
Given the absence of mystic exotic or legendary armour having some difficult to obtain prestige armour is a good thing. GW1 had very expensive prestige gear people could opt to wear if they had the money for it.
The very fact there are people out there in T3 suggests the price is not unreasonable.
As for the people claiming only those with a lot of disposable income, no life, or cheating can afford T3. I resent your accusation :| (I spend 20-30 minutes a day on the trading post and that gives me enough gold to buy nice things)
Nah, I started typing my post before you posted. A few posts accused TC of zerging during tonights defence, which would’ve been tricky seeing were were in total defence most of tonight trying spread what little forces we had between objectives (Until an hour or two ago we were perpetually “undermanned”)
