How about Allods online, which at launch was pay-per-death (seriously, each time you died you need a cash shop item to remove the penalty and/or prevent it)

I feel I’ve been very good this year, having helped liberate (With much gusto) large portions of Tyria from the oppression of larger and smellier bookahs. Sometimes, I even did it out of kindness instead of simply as a byproduct of not being allowed to use humans as test subjects.

However, I am a modest Asura, and I only ask for two things.

Firstly, that the dragons look kindly upon my school of study and stop absorbing all the magic. It’s getting very difficult to continue doing research into mind magic when our illusions are getting progressively weaker.

Secondly, I’d very much appreciate some schematics for an army of steam golems.

With great modesty,
The Incredible Zizi, future Grand High Sovereign of Tyria, alumni of the college of Synergetics, Golemancer, Mesmer and Greatest Asura Since Snaff™

This is what you get for constantly asking them to nerf Mesmers – now the only really viable mesmer build is shatter spec… so enjoy your purple butterflies you’ll be seeing a lot more of them in future

Point-blank illusion spawning (Proposal)

in Suggestions

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

Fundamentally (most) phantasms serve as a mesmer’s heavy hitting ranged attack. Even iZerker, which is (was?) our mainstay spam AoE attack. Spawning them next to a mesmer and setting them off on their way would further reduce our already pretty badly crippled ranged damage as then we’ve have even less ways to shoot back against targets on elevations like castle walls.

Additionally, this reintroduces to some extent the issue of non-LoS casting. Walls were an extreme example, in sPvP another common problem was mesmers hiding behind cover and sending their phantasms out from safety even when reachable; allowing you to cast and then track around corners reintroduces at least some of the problems people had with iZerker in the first place (No way to dodge out of LoS)

Illusions are definitely not pets, most don’t survive long enough to attack a second time, what you have an is an exotic ranged attack; you deploy the attack, it activates it’s ability and then you’re left with a class specific resource, like a thief’s init or warriors adrenaline – for us, it’s in the shape of a clone or phantasm.

You then decide to either:
a) Leave it alive to serve as a decoy/hope that it attacks a second time for more damage
b) Shatter it, and convert it into another skill (Damage, condition, interuppt or defence)

Your proposal might work around some of the bugs, but I’d rather they properly address the bugs, then implement another slap-dash “fix” that breaks more than it resolves.

Gold/Gem exchange rate is making me sad

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

There is no stock movement in gems that stimulates the market, the only way the gems are stimulated is by Anet themselves. to believe buying and selling gems through the BLTC has an outcome on gem for gold prices is nothing short of being naive.

What exactly is the basis for this claim?

Plenty of people have spoken of buying gems in order to buy gold to buy T3 armour and precursors on the forum. And tonnes of people buy gems for gold; far more than vice versa

The price of gems coincides predictably with new releases on the CS, and there is some amount of stock trading going on (Typically the rise exceeds the 30% threshold during this kind’ve event), and events like this usually see a drop of price after as people sell gems for gold.

So how exactly does this in any way suggest arenanet/ncsoft is manipulating the market (Which would be a gross violation of consumer trust) over genuine cause and effect.

isn’t synergetics more physicsy stuff and the things that are more likely to leave behind some sort of spacetime problem, than a puddle of slime or a nice crater if when it blows up

Yes, synergetics is essentially comparable to physics and other studies of the underlying mechanics, but even in the real world fields are not mutual exclusive.

An engineer building a bridge must understand how forces are transmitted through the structure, while a chemist in a lab needs to understand how an NMR spectrograph works (and how to maintain and tune it) in order to ensure accurate readings.

An expert in mind/machine interfacing, would need to know a thing or two about the machinery he plans to interface even if his real interest is the science of how to interpret the signals from the brain.

also, the dynamics storyline specifically mentions that snaff was a golemancer and the point of their entry to the snaff prize was showing off a perfect mind-hardware interface to keep in the spirit of the competition

It is odd that dynamics is depicted as essentially improving on Snaff’s designs in GW2. But being a golemancer doesn’t mean they are dynamics; Zojja is a golemancer too and we know for a fact she is from synergetics.

Gold/Gem exchange rate is making me sad

Ryuujin.8236

Honestly, when the game launched I was surprised the baseline conversion rate of gold to gems was so good, most games the gold/cash shop currency rate is much higher.

At any rate it’s now beginning to rise to a more “normal” level for a game with gold/currency conversion. I expect we’ll see it go higher still, as much as it sucks the price of the currency is defined by the top 50%, if you’re levelling, newly 80 or just not a regular player then affording nice stuff for gold will not be easy, this is the nature of player run economies.

His line of work fits synergetics as well; people think of him as a golemancer but all colleges utilise golems; dynamics merely specialises in that sort’ve gadgetry. Snaff’s speciality was mind-hardware interfacing, and that is very much synergetic’s bag

Temporal Curtain, yes a nerf.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

I love how people always come to the forum complaining that a traited ability is too powerful. In order for warden and curtain to reflect projectiles you need to sink around 20 trait points into it.

People also complain about shatterers (30-60 points), pistol users (20-30 points), and staff bunkers (40 points); and they do so as if you can run all of these builds simultaneously; well here’s something to consider: You can’t.

If a guy is packing a traited temporal curtain or a bunker build, he probably can’t perform an 18k shatter spike and vice versa; if they’re running a full on shatter spike build they’re going to lack a lot of defensive and control utility

Do your research before you file for nerfing

“Dear” depends on geography, for example “dear” is simply a term of endearment in the UK (literally, it’s the root of the word).

But Rytlock seems to see something in it which Zojja then echoes later on. Often that kind of foreshadowing/recognition is very deliberate on the writers part and isn’t likely co-incidental.

Still without the full context of the book it’s hard to say how representative it is.

Are/were bots good?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

Let’s be clear.

The apparent overpricing is a transitional state. When GW2 launched blue craft mats typically sold for around the 1 silver mark, subsequently 1 gold wasn’t really all that much, even a relative lowbie had a few gold before they left the starter zone.

Bots crushed that and drove the same materials we used to trade for 1-2 silver down to 10-20 copper. People complain the T3 gear is too expensive, but this only because the value of your gold is subject to inflation/deflation.

The market is now returning to it’s “normal” levels; this sucks for us because we used to trade items for way less so inflation has kicked us in the pocket. However from now on, all those T5 and T6 materials you find can be sold for way more and the equilibirum is restored. And as an added bonus that T3 cultural gear everyone claims is stupidly expensive is suddenly a lot more attainable.

Custom Buy Listings killing FMV of Items

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

In the pawnbroker scenario you put forward it is an agreement between a buyer and a seller.

But in the BLTC it’s thousands of buyers and thousands of sellers competing for their deals. The very fact an item is available for X price, or the fact a buy order for Y price is getting filled at all is because someone, somewhere decides that to them it is a fair trade. Taxing buyers is a terrible idea; the buy order system is essentially a bidding system, imagine an auction-house where the bidders were taxed every time they put in a bid… it just wouldn’t work. Almost nobody’d place bids if there was any risk they’d be out-bid and have to make a higher bid.

If you want to finger a REAL problem, it’s not the fair market price or anything; but rather inflation and it’s time-lag effect on item pricing.

Take for example 3 weeks ago there were several hundred amulets for sale at what worked out at around 15% markup on current material prices. Today the market has inflated considerably, by more than 15% – items that are still listed at the original price are now technically selling for below crafting cost. As long as that backlog exists, then new sales cannot be made at a more reasonable price.

This is the real flaw in the system; but besides finding a means to invigorate the economy so people actually buy that backlog I’m not sure what can be done besides playing smart and branching out instead of putting all your cards into a single business strategy.

Asura vs. Human: Tell Us Your SAY!!!

in Asura

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

The humans are very much the “comfort zone” of GW2. They have nothing outwardly unusual or special going for them, their homeland is incredibly average and dull being generic ye olden day farmland, routinely raided by generic bandits and populated by average characters.

Basiclly arenanet seems to have correctly assumed that people rolling human are looking for something familiar. In contrast, the Asura are deliberately over the top, as one of the Arenanet devs had to say (paraphrased) “Anyone who’s ok playing a 2ft tall genius with a napoleon complex is probably on-board with us trying outlandish things already”.

So, if you want to play a snarky genius with massive architeture, magitech computers, giant mecha suits and laser guns. Asura is for you… if you want to hide in your comfort zone with swords, farms, cow tipping and thees and thous, human is for you.

Are Mesmers OP? Or am I just fighting bads?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

It’s little from column A and a little from column B.

Mesmer is a powerful class, they’re up there with thief and warrior for the ability to set up massive (frequently instant-kill) burst combos.

But they’re also offset by the fact they’re a “weird” class, they don’t behave in a way that fits normal MMO class archetypes. Many players dive into PvP without exploring the mechanics what they’ll be facing and when presented by something as alien as a mesmer have no idea how to respond, leaving themselves wide open to a killing blow.

If you understand what you’re facing, a mesmer is (arguably) just as easy as any other class to drop. Whenever I’ve ended up in a 1 on 1 situation with another mesmer I usually take them down just as fast, if not faster than any other opponent.

Shatter mesmers working as intended?

in PvP

Posted by: Ryuujin.8236

Ryuujin.8236

I suspect it’s intended. Once the mesmer hits shatter the clones are essentially projectiles that home in on the target to deliver the selected skill, the mesmer has no further control of them.

Preventing the mesmer using any phantasm skills until the projectiles hit home would be very unfair on them, no other class has to “wait” for a projectile attack to land before they can resume using their relevant skills again. Many classes can set up a projectile combo so multiple hits land simultaneously

In contrast, named exotics only drop from the mystic forge and in the loot table, they have no “minimum value”and will sell for as little as the seller allows. With the deluge of exotics from the loot table over the weekend it’s no surprise those markets have slumped hard.

Play the Game for FUN!

Ryuujin.8236

If what you find fun is the ability to max out characters and suit them up with maxed out gear and dress them up cosmetically and take them around the world doing stuff, playing with different builds and weapons, then – especially as a casual player – this game can no longer be fun, because in order to have a maxed out (stat-wise) character we’ll have to do nothing but gear grind – which is not what we do for fun.

thank you!
concise and to the point- good luck with getting that across in this tread.

I think the post also sum up an issue with people’s thinking, one I see too in the legendaries.

Note that he considers himself a casual player, and yet he feels he must have ascended items before he is complete. I consider myself pretty hardcore, but even I am in no hurry to chase ascended gear, while vastly cheaper than legends, they are insanely more expensive than exotics.

Is this some kind’ve throwback of “other MMOs” where people assume that they both must and can get the top tier of gear in the shortest time possible?

Hundreds blades can dish out up to 22k damage in PvP, but you’d have to a prat or deeply unlucky to not get out of the way.

Moa Morph is essentially a 10 second daze with a twist. But you can still run, dodge and hide during this time.

People’ll likely name stuff like backstab but backstab on it’s own is simply a skill, things like backstab or shatter combos are just that; combos. Not singular OP skills.

Can someone just clarify this for me: What changed?

People are saying the game is no longer fun, but the game that existed before the patch is still here. They simply added new content.

“They simply added new content” o_O

Well they did. They added a few new rings and back slot items (Let’s be clear there is no ascended armour or jewellery, ie. most of your gear slots) that have stats a few points higher than the rest which house infusions which are needed to participate in level 10+ fractals.

Having an extra 5-15 stats points isn’t going to turn you into a demigod or render someone immortal, and you only need infusions if you do level 10 fractals or higher. If you hate grinding fractals then you don’t need the infusion anyway, if you do like grinding fractals what’s the big deal? – You’re doing what you enjoy xD.

The triforge amulet has far higher stats than any other item in the game, even more than ascended items yet nobody has batted an eyelid to it. Why the out-rage about ascended gear but not a peep about the triforge?

Explain Mantras to me

They have specialised uses but not enough to justify traiting them IMO

Mantra of resolve is good in specific scenarios where you’re expecting to receive a lot of conditions. Mantra of concentration can be useful in some situations like jump puzzles where stability would be helpful. Mantra of distraction (especially if you’re using a sword or pistol offhand, and diversion) to chain-stunlock a target. Mantra of pain can be used in tandem with other direct damage abilities to land a massive damage spike.

Downside is each of these require having forward knowledge of the situation and preparing in advance. Mantras individually just arn’t worth carrying about “just in case”

Indeed OP. Someone earlier asked me “What do at 80 now they removed plinx” to which i could only respond “I didn’t used to grind plinx even when he existed”. I just dont… I explore, I tinker with builds, have fun, mess about do dungeons, trade.

I don’t get the obsession with loot at all, and it seems like I’m enjoying the game much more than the people who are :/

I’m not doing it, but not playing the game anymore. The game is no longer fun, to me, with the introduction of this patch. Is that so hard to understand?

Then go play a game you do enjoy. This isn’t a skinner box.

The list of bugs with mesmer’s skills/traits is 3 times longer than this thread and ours isn’t even the most buggy class. Still doesn’t stop them nerfing us every patch though… how can you balance something that’s inherently broken? >.<
