I think there are also other video’s of players that don’t crutch on the GS.
Who said anything about GS. I prefer to run sword/focus/staff, shatter/melee in PvE. But it’s still frustrating grouping enemies up, dropping my warden only for my warden to sit there sucking it’s thumb while it gets ripped apart and the nearby archers pepper me with arrows instead of hacking my foes up in a flurry of arrow deflection and pain.
Garnished Toast
Can we get some clarification? My phantasms get off their attacks about 50% of the time now because they are killed from simply standing in place for 1-2 seconds before initiating their attacks. I find it difficult to believe this is working as intended
It’s a PvP/PvE conflict (as usual). The delay is so players can respond to the new threat, but the AI has perfect reflexes, any delay is enough to let an NPC turn around and land an attack on the phantasm first if they arn’t already occupied.
Similarly in the meat grinder of WvW, phantasms end up dying in the crossfire before they act
Garnished Toast
Maybe it’s time to try out warrior :p – or… any class for that matter I’ve always got bored before getting any alt over 40
Garnished Toast
I’d say lesson learned: Never try to balance a class without first fixing all the bugs ^^
You’re very optimistic to hope that anyone learns anything from this episode
They already “fixed” line of sight, then they “fixed” dodging/blinds/aegis/blocks, and now they “fixed” attack delays. They’re now “features” and given how many “bugs” they have left to fix from as far back as BWE2 I don’t hold much hope they’ll start tweaking “features” for many, MANY months if not years.
it’s a simple matter of how tickets are handled in companies like this. A bug fix is naturally higher priority than tweaking features, until the bugs are gone, features won’t get so much as the time of day
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
No, Jon said it was always there, but we weren’t noticing the delay. Said it was there since BWE2.
It has been there since BWE2, any Mesmer worth his salt knew if you didn’t take phantasmal fury or phantasmal vengeance of whatever it was called your phantasms had a delay before attacking. It was widely assumed the delay was a bug and thus you’d always take one of those two traits as a workaround
Now they “fixed” those two traits it turns out the delay is a “feature” and the absence of the delay was the bug.
Also, exact wording aside it doesn’t change the fact according to the devs this is not a bug and we’re stuck with it now

Update – in the mesmer forum:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Phantasms-retested-after-12-3/first#post919872
“Working as intended” according to Jon Peters, the absence of a delay was in fact a “bug” and now they’ve “fixed” it. So I’ll doubt we’ll see a fix, because heaven forbid anyone buff mesmer

Small update:
1. General – phantasms not attacking for 1-3 seconds after spawning:
“Working as intended” according to Jon Peters, the absence of a delay was a bug, and now they “fixed” it.

They do perform performance tweaks. There was an intresting video showing how they took performance metrics for players at different locations to build up a “framerate map” if certain areas perform badly they then look at ways to tone it down a bit.
Garnished Toast
In fairness the sPvP forum receives a lot of feedback and discussion with the devs, as does WvW. Unfortunatly a significant portion of those posts are discussing how to deal with portal ¬_¬
Garnished Toast
Yah the same applies on the Ascalon invasion fractal when everyone is turned into charr
Garnished Toast
I’m surprised you’re expecting a response. In 4 months I’ve seen 1 reply on a mesmer issue from anet.
Garnished Toast
Good additions, there was still a chance a player could lose to a mesmer.
Especially if he got disconnected!
Garnished Toast
They just can make ‘’graphic animation’’ like a spell for phantasms instead of a clone doing damage. A one time use spell.
You mean, like GW1? :p

Trading post, typically make 10-20 gold a day for about 10-20 minutes work from that alone, then I don’t have to worry about magic find and grinding dungeons for loot I can do what i find fun, and do it in style.

Can we get a response on the illusion bug for mesmers?
Pretty please?
In 4 months I’ve only once seen a member of staff post in a thread about mesmers (That is, mesmer issues. They frequently comment on nerfing mesmers, particularly portal in WvW), I’d recommend against you holding your breath
Garnished Toast
Well, at least we still have portal right? ¬_¬
Garnished Toast
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature – see, all you need is good PR
Garnished Toast
They’re busy figuring out where the missing goggles in Metrica Province went…
So I wasn’t the only one thinking the same thing
Garnished Toast
and not a single buff to the necromancer, do Anet even care about the class AT ALL?
Just be glad they didn’t break or nerf anything like they do mesmers… what’d I give for a patch where they just leave things alone and stop making things even MORE broken
Garnished Toast
Have you tried testing the skill? – the tooltip on some of the phantasm skills doesn’t update to reflect the changes properly, but do in fact work as intended
Garnished Toast
confirmed. Well, now you can say that this class is totally useless.
We’ve still got portal!
cough ¬_¬
Garnished Toast
The sad thing is that we will probably get nerfed again next patch. This absolute crippling of the class probably still won’t be good enough for the pvp whiners as they just want to spam their skills, they don’t want to think.
The PvPrs recognised phantasm builds got nerfed to oblivion weeks ago. They’ve been petitioning to get shatter damage reduced.
Garnished Toast
It seems to be caused by your rebreather skin being overlaid onto the clothing direct draw layer. Diving without your rebreather or swapping to the consortium rebreather fixes it
Garnished Toast
Its already being telegraphed plenty if you watch the mesmer.
If people had an ounce of sense they wouldn’t keep losing to Mesmers anyway, let’s face it, our nerf history is based on the lowest common denominator of PvPr
We already have a long list of counters, but why stop there when you can add more right?
Garnished Toast
Horrible thought… maybe this is delibrate?
I’ve heard several times in recent weeks PvP’rs kittening that it’s unfair phantasms can attack them before they even render – perhaps the delay was intentional to telegraph the incoming attack in PvP
Garnished Toast
I got excited at this patch; it’s the first patch where Mesmer wasn’t nerfed!
…but, they broke phantasm AI . GG
Garnished Toast
Phantasmal Healing was not fixed contrary to the statement that on-phantasm boon traits are fixed. Phantasmal healing is still inconsistent between phantasms, ranging from 10 second pulse on iWarden, to 3 second pulse on iDuellist.
Note: iDuellist has the more workable pulse gap. Please don’t homogenise iDuellist to 10 seconds instead of fixing the other to 3.
And yes I can confirm phantasms now kitten out and don’t attack for 2-3 seconds after spawning, typically resulting in them dying without attacking
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
Looks like everyone has had the same results I got testing this.
Phantasmal healing
Still not fixed, doesn’t kick in til a good 10 seconds after the phantasm is spawned (Who’s phantasms live THAT long)
Attack delay
Is now a class feature rather than a bug, no work around for it anymore. Now phantys die before they even get to attack
Berzerker fixed
iZerker is reliably hitting targets multiple times during it’s whirlwind, this is good.
So, like i predicted, we got a fix that broke more than it fixed, we got iZerker fixed but it came at a cost.

Don’t monotremes actually lay eggs though? We do know that Asura give live birth to their progeny.
Missing the point
Rather Asura don’t have to fit into any extant phylogeny found here on Earth. I dub this new order sapiens culus

But people will find a problem

It’s not inflation persay, the market is a complex place. 2 weeks ago we had the karka event and that flooded the market with cheap exotics, which have now more or less returned to equilibrium
Furthermore the whole exotic/rare/ecto/T5/T6 markets are very closely linked and their prices have been rising steadily in the aftermath of the bots that plagued the server, not due to inflation of gold, but a lack of supply Vs demand so it’s more of a redistribution of gold than an inherent change in it’s value.
Alternatively you could ask the scare mongers as opposed to the traders and they’ll tell you the economy is about to implode, arenanet is manipulating it to drive away their own player base, and by next week we’ll all be slaves to the communists
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
Which is a great guess and probably true. Until you show me data such as how much ecto bots were putting in the market or how much ecto people were getting from Plinx farming, I think its still a guess.
Average supply listings dropped from ~14k to ~7k, so, possibly as high as 50%
Also, I was just saying the late october/early november for some background. I think the more interesting part is closer to the present (which is that prices are currently dropping and supply has gone up).
I have a nagging feeling the bots may be making a comeback, lot of reports of bots coming in the last few days on the forum and seen a few myself. Certain T5 and T6 prices have taken an unscheduled dip in value too.
But, there may be other explanations, maybe a lot of folks are giving up on their ascended gear and selling the stockpiled mats
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
. What has caused these trends is purely speculation since only Anet has the numbers….
Look on the BLTC forum, early November was the big bot crackdown when Arenanet mass-banned thousands of botters in a single swoop – John Smith, the Arenanet economist guy himself confirmed this.
On November 15th was the patch where they nerfed Plinx farming, these events both correlate with the decline in ecto supplies as one would expect. It seems a very reasonable conclusion to draw

If you’re finding a zone to be a nuisance you don’t want to waste time with magic find gear. Your foremost goal is being able to kill the mobs – if you can’t kill mobs then having extra chance of loot is pointless
Hold off with your T3 plans too; again, it’s no good running about in sexy-but-useless rare gear if you can’t handle the high level zones. (I was convinced I was going to jump straight into T3 too, but when I got to orr I decided to settle for T1 and bought myself a set of exotics… I got there eventually anyway, just took me a few weeks longer :p )
Look into possibly buying some level 76-79 exotic armour, usually these are MUCH cheaper than level 80 exotics but are only a few stats points off the mark and much better than level 80 rares. Also, have a good long hard look at your playstyle and build, watch some videos to get some ideas; people don’t like to admit they still have lessons to learn but the biggest bar to success in orr is not gear, but combat strategy; orr is where the mobs bar no holds and you’ll need to start playing a better game, I know when I got there I thought I was hot stuff, and I didn’t have too much trouble, but looking back all I can say to myself was “nooooob!”)
Once you get a foothold into the level 80 zones you’ll have a good chance at scoring T6 crafting materials which sell for a fair bit (20s each easily) and start thinking about what to do with that gold (invest it back into better gear, or perhaps investment funds)

You’re pretty bad if you think Portal can’t be used in “personal play.” You can place a portal entrance, then go into a fight. If things start to get hectic, you just place the exit and portal out. A get out of jail free card on a 90 second CD.
Well gee, I’m glad i have a good way of running away – I’m going to need it seeing how my offence is screwed up.
Garnished Toast
I disagree. As the price for ecto rises, it makes more sense to salvage rares — that is, it makes more economic sense to salvage more rares => more ectos in supply.
Every increase in price brings a few more rares into the price range for conversion but that hasn’t staved off the rise thus far either. However…
I think there is some cause for increase in supply: high levels of Fractals of the Mists. .
This is a good point; assuming of course FotM at the higher tiers actually drops significantly more rares/exotics and enough people run FotM that this becomes significant.
Garnished Toast
Hard to say
There is no reason for a sudden increase in supply, and demand is high as ever so price will rise. The current dip in price is due to investors and speculators cashing out thus temporarily increasing supply but this is a short lived phenomena.
However on the flipside, (And this is why some of the ivnestors are probably cashing out) we have wintersday coming up and events always cause a glut of rare materials due to the extra players online, so the price might be depressed for some weeks. Also, you’d be gambling on arenanet not implementing changes to make ecto easier to obtain in the wintersday patch
Garnished Toast
Looks over prestige, in GW1 I used to wear the Norn ranger armour simply because it looked amazing
However, in GW2 there’s an overlap between the Asura T3 gear, and the best looking gear for Asura so I’m wearing that (mostly, prefer the acolyte pants), but I have no plans to get any weapons manufactured by Mattel

The folks arguing about ectos being cornered the strange drop in supply blah blah blah, please read this post you all conveniently ignored.
Gosh there are so many tinfoil hats in this thread!
Let’s have a look at the facts, facts exist
Here’s the data for ecto
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721The red bars are demand, blue bars are supply. The red line is asking price, the blue line is order price.
Over the first month things were still ramping up, hardly anyone was 80 or farming orr both supply and demand still growing – ecto during this period averages around 20 silver. Supply peaks over the halloween period due to the extra players, dropping the price as low as 12-13 silver.
Around 5-10th of November arenanet goes on a huge bot banning spree and you see supply of ecto drop to a new lower level, despite the cheap supply available there is no significant spike in ecto demand – speculators, if any are not having a significant effect on the economy
From then til now, demand for ecto remains high and even continues to grow slowly while supply remains at it’s new post-bot banning levels, as a result the stockpile of cheaper ecto continues to dwindle, forcing up the prices across the board.
tl;dr
In summary
- There has been no reduction in rare/ecto drop rate, only a reduction in botters and plinx runners farming it.
- The rising price is due to demand vastly out-stripping supply
- Speculators are not significantly affecting the price
- Ecto is a poor short term investment choice, seeing only 30% growth in the last 2 weeks, day traders arn’t flipping it.
Alternatively, arenanet has some really convoluted conspiracy going on where they manipulate market prices in just such a way that it looks exactly the players have caused it… I’m going with the former theory however, this is a hell of our own making. Everyone wants a piece of the crafting pie and now we’re all fighting over limtied resources
Garnished Toast
Believe it or not, if raw damage in PvE is what you want then warrior is the way to go. That’s not talking about survivability/damage tradeoff, warriors just straight up reallllly hit hard compared to any other class.
The only thing that doesn’t match your criteria is that warriors arn’t exactly glassy, but they out-DPS every other class plate or not. (The tradeoff with warriors comes in reduced flexibility, they lack such a wide variety of condition/boon/control/utility skills), however since solo PvE comes down to stabbing stuff in the face til it stops twitching, warriors are in their element in solo PvE
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
Sometimes it occurs by accident.
Take for example you have 18 bags of kittens, and the asking price is 3 silver. Some guy is buying 6 bags of kittens for 2 silver each and you decide you’d rather have you gold sooner rather than later, so you sell your 18 bags of kittens for 2 silver.
But the top buyer is only buying 6 bags of kittens, the remaining 12 bags get automaticlly listed for 2 silver each, resulting in a 1 silver undercut, and a lot of kittening coming out the other traders for your crazy undercut
Other times though it’s just stupid people. When you have millions of players, there’s a a high probability at least one of them is stupid
Garnished Toast
Out of interest does anybody know if being blinded now also stops minions/turrets/spirit weapons/elementals from being spawned?
It has no affect on them. They are created without a target and therefore cannot “miss”

Please stop discussing the moderation and speculating about reasons for infractions, it’s only of the concern of the user who got it. He could have asked the moderators/ CCs why he got infracted. The reason is described in the infraction, too!
I have been banned in the past without explanation and my e-mail asking why went ignored. I’ve been infracted 7 times for ridiculous things ranging from “trolling” while helping people, to “not posting helpful information” in a general discussion, on one occasion I even got infracted for the same message twice. I even saw an entirely legitmate response get marked trolling on the basis of the personal incredulity of the moderator!
So, you can understand some of us are getting seriously exasperated about the moderating and taking it up privately with the moderating team has yielded nothing

This happens every weekend. The weekend warriors come online, supply spikes, prices drop for a bit.
Looking closely at the supply bars:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24295
I think speculation is the cause; the pattern of buying and selling doesn’t match the weekend. That said, the supply is no higher now than it was 3 days ago, it fluctuates a lot.

What answer you get depends on where you ask it
According to the class forums
Every class but mine is OP
According to the PvP forum
Mesmer and Thief are the cancer that is killing GW2, nerf them
According to the general forum
Whatever I’m playing is strongest.
Personally I’d say it’s a toss up between mesmer and guardian.
Guardian has defensive tricks up the wazoo; controls, barriers, healling and has a good set of utilities – reflects, pulls, roots, blocks etc. and to top it all off most their defensive stuff affects their allies making them highly desirable in parties.
Mesmer has tricks coming out there ears. If there’s a situation, mesmer has a solution, the only thing keeping them being completely OP is the fact their damage output is back-loaded, making them slow farmers, and they lack indirect fire capabilities (Making them borderline useless in laying sieges in WvW)
Garnished Toast
So tossing an auto when you have blindness to get rid of it, like a smart person is too much effort?
That Numot said.
Adapt to the new restriction and move on.
On the other hand, they could fix it and make the ability miss and put it on cool down (like every other class).
Actually, they should fix it like every other class. Make the ability miss and put it on cool down…
Why don’t you just go hang out on your own class forums instead of trying to get a reaction out the mesmers by standing by their bugs…
Adapting to change is fine, nessecary even. But adapting to bugs is not ok.
