Garnished Toast
Argh i never thought about this.
With iZerker nerfed into the floor, and no way to place clones on immune mobs, we’re basiclly screwed in 90% of orrian DE’s
Garnished Toast
I found it hard to tell. Consensus in an earlier thread was no
Garnished Toast
You missed out quite a few other traits, such as the phantasm regeneration buff (Which itself is a trigger for our protection trait), and the heal and vigor on shatter traits.
Simply put, this change is equvalent to making a thief or warrior lose all adrenaline/initiative generation while defensive conditions are in place
Garnished Toast
No, they don’t scale fully.
In AC in theory a level 80 in rare gear has the same stats as a level 30 in rare gear. So a level 80 in full exotics has higher stats than a typical level 30 in blues and greens, possibly blues and greens that are themselves below level 30.
This is why downscaled level 80’s roll so much face in the starter zones, since new players don’t even have pauldrons or helmets, or frequently even gloves. So level 80’s not only have a gear class advantage but gear slot advantage.
Garnished Toast
And let’s not forget how it ties to our class mechanic.
If a thief is feared or blinded, he’ll still generate initiative. If a guardian blocks or aegis’s a warrior, the warrior still generates adrenaline. If a ranger is stunned or fearred his pet can still attack just fine.
If a mesmer uses a multi-attack phantasm, not only will a blind block the first attack, it also blocks all the attacks, it disabled the phantasms, we lose any kind’ve regeneration, decoy or shatter fodder associated with the phantasm, we also get smacked with the cooldown. This is not proportionate
Garnished Toast
Considering I see people walking about in T3, surely the price must be about right – it’s rare and still draws attention. But not so rare that you can’t find people with it in any given zone
Do we really want everyone walking about in the same armour set?

In more seriousness, looking at the sPvP forum the current hot topic seems to be mesmer shatter builds being OP.
Given the general trend that “Whatever is pissing off the sPvP’rs and WvW’rs is next to get nerfed”…
…yeah.
Garnished Toast
portal is not a aoe damage skill. like a mesmer pet is or are to us.
Neither is it ground targetted. But I don’t suppose we should let facts in the way of a good mesmer-hate rant. They never stop arenanet from basing their nerfs on it

There’s a number of items, namely salvage bags that’re flooding in by the truckload right now; I’ve been buying these bags for a while now, and they used to cost twice their current value and you’d only get like 4 or 5 every 20 minutes.
Now they’re pouring in by the truckload, like a stack every 20 minutes, and the value of the relevant items has nosedived hard are are continuing to dive.
Are the new fractal instances dropping large amounts of bags, or have the bots returned? – at this rate of influx the T5, T6 and core and lodestone values will be back down to the prices they were a few weeks ago before the bot bannings. (Not that I’m complaining, crazy amounts of supply favour the crafty and the crafter. But I’d rather not be unwittingly funding bot farmers)
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
With the rise in price on T5 and T6 crafting materials, the relevant T5 and T6 crafting markets have become very narrow, so the number of people crafting for resale has fallen off sharply, with reduced crafting demand the demand for ori/gossamer/silk/wood has fallen with it.

Same, the party had two people from the same guild, no soon as we got halfway in bam; PUGs out, guildies in.

Nothing, I stood by the psionicist in Allods from beta til well after launch, despite it’s constant nerfing month after month after month, til it went from best PvP class, to this nigh unplayable shadow of itself – I always found a way to make the class work, even when literally 95% of the players had bailed from it.
Mesmer like psion is the archetype I love, they play almost the same, they are thematiclly the same, and Mesmer is following the same path to destruction, but I’ll stick with it and make it work, and the day I quit mesmer is the day I quit GW2 entirely.
They can take my phantasms, but they can never take my archetype!

As I’ve said in a number of threads, the problem stems from the fact the floppy ears broke a few patches ago and stopped responding to the ear scale sliders.
This patch they fixed the ears once more so they respond to the sliders; a number of players in this timespan created asura characters with floppy ears and messed the sliders about and left them at the extreme end.
Now they’ve fixed the ears again your have super skinny/bendy or inflamed ears in line with your slider choice at creation, it’s not really clear how anet can “fix” this because legit floppy earred asura from before the patch probably don’t want their ears reset. And they can hardly “break” the ears again
Garnished Toast
There’s also been a perfectly logical explanation given by Anet, if you ~still~ don’t understand why it is that time, then I’m speechless. Get over it.
This ^
And in case you’ve missed the many many threads, the answer is concurrency. 8pm UTC is when they have the most players online from all round the world online simultaneously ad thus the largest audience for a one time event exists.
While it’s frustrating to be living on the edge of the bell curve, that is life. Science has at least tried to find the centre of the universe, and they’re not entirely sure where it is yet, but it’s almost certainly not you

So reading in the bug forums just now https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/MASSIVE-Ranger-trap-BUG/first#post751104 7th post down on a Ranger bug
Mark Katzbach:
Hey all, we are aware of the bug with Ranger traps. A fix is slated for to take care of this tonight.Interesting … and no word on us Mesmers yet?
To my knowledge, no dev has ever come down from their ivory tower to address us on a class issue. They frequently discuss potential “rebalance of mesmers” in the PvP and other class forums though when people whine we need nerfing.
Garnished Toast
I’m starting to wonder if the devs even examine or play mesmers, because every patch brings tonnes of bugs and ridiculous PvE nerfs to the class and the only way they could possibly think it is a good idea is if they don’t personally ever play the class and instead take all their feedback on Mesmers from the elementalist or warrior forum
Garnished Toast
They also fixed the spear too, so I can look super-fly kicking kitten underwater
Garnished Toast
Yes I’ve long noticed and frequently reported this since day 1. During periods of lag (ie when sound and animations arn’t fully loaded), your spine ends up about half the height it usually is xD
Garnished Toast
I think mesmers are really perfect where they are at right now. Their clones still do a large amount of damage
Have you actually played mesmer since the patch?
They halved iZerkers damage, and phantasmal iMage’s confusion duration is so short it frequently does no damage at all so now the only way to play is with pistol, focus, sword or staff, and to run a shatter or bunker build, definitly not phantasm.
That is of course the general trend in sPvP anyway, but isn’t that the opposite of perfect? – Where one or two builds stand head or shoulders above the others, and everything else is pointless?
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
Here’s another observation for the OP:
Why is it that people assume everyone plays PvP and only PvP? – The vast majority of the player base are strict PvE players, and iZerker was one of the few attacks that had a hope of tagging mobs in Dynamic Events. Hence greatsword was frequently used in PvE because you know… it could actually tag mobs.
Garnished Toast
Ouch, lol.
Those ears you showed in the first clip on male asura are unaffected by the ear sliders (They ARE affected on females), it looks like arenanet finally “fixed” the ears so they respond to the ear scale sliders, and when you made your asura, you had the ear thickness sliders wayyyy out to the extreme
You’ll probably need to wait for the makeover kits to come out, they can hardly break the content again
Garnished Toast
I have to question what ANet’s vision of the mesmer profession really is, because at this point it seems they don’t really know. We’re clearly not the best at any particular role, but getting progressively weaker with each “balance fix.” What are mesmers supposed to do?
Just remember, I called it
Garnished Toast
Considering they totally overhauled how LoS behaves for illusions and phantasms it’s not unlikely they accidentally fixed it in the process given it was an LoS issue in the first place.
Garnished Toast
Portal’s bound to get another nerf. Extending it’s CD didn’t address ANY of it’s fundamental issues, it was just to pretend they were doing something about it.
Shatter spikes are incredibly powerful in both sPvP and WvW… that’s a possibility. But, my experience is that the stuff people kitten about and gets nerfed often comes way way left of centre; like berserker’s and LoS, cooldown of chaos storm, attack speed of phantasmal mage (lol), Moa.
Garnished Toast
Untwist your panties for 2 seconds guys.
That ring you’re looking at is basically an ascended ring of divinity with a jewel of divinity fitted; no such thing exists in PvE, but that is fundamentally what you’re looking at in terms of stats and why it looks so OP – any kind’ve divinity gear does because it has a HUGE list of attributes.
Garnished Toast
Is it just me or has illusory leap started working properly now?
I was testing the heck out of it in orr just now and it didn’t fail me once in like 30 minutes of hard undead-butt-kicking. The illusion also seems to move faster, charging into battle leaving a blurred trail behind it the moment it’s spawned, as opposed to trying to run into melee.
Garnished Toast
Ok im sorry, have you read the patch notes for the other classes??? Mesmers are still in a very good spot and ANET is not screwing u guys more than any other. Just look at engineers, elem, who got jack kitten this patch.
Elementalists and engineers can still hit people standing at higher elevations – mesmers in an assault on a keep (ie. 90)% of WvW are about as much use as a screen door on a submarine. Basiclly they’ve been reduced to portal bots
Garnished Toast
I’m curious exactly how mesmers are meant to help in offence now, considering all they can hurl at wall defenders is foul language.
Garnished Toast
Well based on what I have seen in the patch notes and the game thus far I am guessing that unless you play a Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer, or Thief you really won’t be happy.
If you’re a mesmer you’ll be pissed off at today’s patch.
They took away their ability to hit targets on higher elevations. Now in a WvW siege, all mesmers can do to the wall defenders is hurl foul language.
Garnished Toast
The portal changes were incredibly pointless. A zerg typically has 3 or 4 mesmers, an extra 30 sec CD changes nothing. It does however mean PvE mesmers and their parties may have to sit around and sing campfire songs while they wait for the CD when leveraging it. Making the portal die after say, 5 uses would’ve resolved this
As for removing our last ability that can hit guys on top of walls, I ask Arenanet: “What do you propose we do in WvW? – Throw insults?”
Garnished Toast
Now now, chaos storm was NOT nerfed this patch, let’s keep things straight :p
However, yes, they got rid of all illusions ability to hit targets above line of sight. So mesmers now have no direct means of attacking people standing on battlements, or for that matter ANY kind’ve higher elevation.
This… is a big issue.
Garnished Toast
I don’t think it should be done per tick, as that favors the team that holds keeps overnight rather than the one which holds them during the day
Very good point. It’s much easier to hold an upgraded keep when most your enemies are in bed
Garnished Toast
If I understand correctly you don’t need to be a member of a server in order to party for dungeons right – just as long as you’re in the same party and the same geographical “zone”. (ie. ashford for AC) you’ll get the option to enter the dungeon with everyone
Assuming I understood that right, is there any cross-server dungeoneering “guilds” out there for the purpose of seeking dungeon parties more efficiently? (My primary guild just runs AC and CM over and over, when I really want to be doing stuff like SE and CoE)
I’m in CET timezone BTW (UTC+1, Central Europe)
Garnished Toast
Ditto, you have to get very very close to the shore and drop it so you can surface, then wade back in without actually swimming an pick it up out the water.
I’m amazed they havn’t fixed this bug, this’s been like this since week 1
Garnished Toast
Of course the engineer changes just could be a page of tooltip corrections, whereas the mesmer’s “few changes” could be to the effect of “removed portal”, “removed all non-LoS skills”, “halved damage”
Garnished Toast
. I’d love to see the data on the wealth distribution in and I’d be very curious to see what the dev team would think of that data. I’d guess what looks normal under the lens of Austrian Economics might not look so good under from the point of view of community manager or content developer.
I asked this a while back, John (Calling devs on first name basis xD – hooray for having a dev who actually participates in the forum) pointed out quite rightly it hasn’t even been a full fiscal quarter since the game launched, but it does sound like something he’ll post up when there is more data too look at.
As for whether trading is bad; trading arbitrage works in everyone’s favour as it narrows the gap between buying and selling price on goods. Farmers get better value for their produce, consumers get products at a better price and it keeps the economy ticking over so the crafters actually shift their piles of products.
There really isn’t a bar to entry in trading, I make over 100 gold a week and rising fast, and I didn’t start trading til 1 month or 2 after launch; well after the exploits and cheap precursor shenanigans. Fundamentally the bar to entry isn’t funds; it’s being confident with mathematics – being both willing and able to look for places to make a profit, put gold on it, and get your calculations right so you actually make that profit
Garnished Toast
It’s more likely from a rune. There is a rune (Rune of the pack?) which has a chance to spawn a rock dog on being hit. There are several rune sets that spawn pets in this way (Such as rune of the pirate can summon a parrot)
Garnished Toast
It would be so awesome if ANet released a patch and made lemons tradeable. Can you imagine that guy’s rage? lolololol
You know what they say; when life gives you lemons…
Garnished Toast
Here’s my opinion:
Trahearne and the Player are co-stars, not something that players are used to
I dunno, i mean take for example Tybalt; he pretty much runs the whispers story arc up to claw island, yet everyone loves him. He’s a fun character, great dialogue and development.
Trehearne is… shall we say… “Wooden” (Pun intended)- he doesn’t come over as a commander; I know at first he’s a scholar, but even after he’s taken up the pact reigns he still delivers his lines with all the vigour of an autocue.
Unless we can connect with our co-star, his role will always feel forced upon us, and that is what players dislike, having characters forced upon them, NOT that they arn’t used to or capable of co-operating with characters. It’s ironic because even Arenanet acknowledged how awful Rurik was, and yet Trehearne is little more than Rurik Mk2, and yet unlike Rurik we arn’t at least spared from him after the first act.
Garnished Toast
(edited by Ryuujin.8236)
He’s the Prince Rurik, Master Togo and Kormir of GW2.
This. And as we all know, nobody liked kormir
Garnished Toast
Hmm, mine definitely turns – at least when I’m combat ready (ie weapon out), not sure about when just stood idle
Garnished Toast
Caladbolg almost looks like a legend; when he has it drawn butterflies start circling like an aura
Garnished Toast
Let’s be clear. Mesmer’s arn’t bad at PvE and mesmer can tag
The difference is that mesmer’s have to work their kitten off and have to be specced a certain way to even come close to achieving what a guardian, engineer or elementalist can achieve merely by rolling their face on the keyboard.
If those classes bother to work their kitten off, then there’s a good chance you won’t be tagging anything this run.
So, by this definition yes, mesmer’s are bad at DE’s
Garnished Toast
I’m confused about the “it does op damage and op clones”. I know lots of professions which do equal or greater damage than a mesmer clones. Which I suppose makes this entire thread invalid.
Notably warrior, which is hand’s down the most powerful class for damage; and the OP is a warrior xD
Garnished Toast
I find it hard to believe an Asuran computer needs us to verify the area of a rectangle…
i was thinking about this the other day and remembered that actually in real life there are some situations where computers need an engineer to verify the numbers
Most notable example being airline fuel tanks; in one case a flight engineer who couldn’t work in metric under-calculated the fuel load, but told the flight computer it was loaded with the correct amount, resulting in one of the world’s biggest gliders xD
(Thankfully the pilot had mad skillz and landed the plane without any serious injuries)
Garnished Toast
In particular, it’s pretty ridiculous to complain about ArenaNet’s recent bot bannings and the effect on the economy. Would you really prefer it if they simply gave the bots free rein?
Gawd no, I think we all knew the well of cheap supply would dry up eventually. Doesn’t change the fact it made the crafting business grind to a halt overnight but it was something I had expected.
What was less expected is them caving in to the QQ’rs on precursors
Garnished Toast
Indeed, I can see that now
Kind’ve takes the wind out my sails a lot, because the economic “minigame” of GW2 is a big deal for me, but if Arenanet can at any time without warning change the rules of the game it puts me off playing it.
The hint here was when the forum was swarmed with “QQ precursor RNG QQ”-topics.
In fairness, the forums have been one long QQ from BWE3 til now.
“QQ warriors are ruining everything”, “QQ dungeons are too hard”, “QQ mesmers are ruining everything”, “QQ I don’t have a legendary after 1 week”, “QQ thieves are ruining everything”, “QQ 3 months and I still don’t have a legend”… you get my point
Ironic really because there are MMO’s out there that have succeeded solely BECAUSE they allowed the game’s economy to grow and drive itself forward (ie. EVE)

@Rayya: Let’s be clear, thieves stealth is not the issue. The issue is with the renderer so that an unstealthed thief while technically targettable and vulnerable, remains invisible on your screen for several seconds after uncloaking.
The same applies for mesmers – their stealth has the exact same bug, it’s just mesmer’s have fewer stealth skills, also people tend to fail to notice because they’re too busy watching clones and not realising the real mesmer isn’t even on the screen.
Should either sets of stealth skills be nerfed? – No.
Should the engine bug be fixed – HELL YES.
Arguing about anything beyond this is comparing chalk and cheese.
