Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.

Theorically it would make sense, however you have forgotten 1 thing, all mesmer phantasms can now be blinded, blocked, invulnerable-ed and obstructed.

Adding a double chance to block and evade, is just unreasonable as the damage is far from beying even close to the highest attack, you either choose the former or the latter, you dont just choose both its senseless.

And even if that made sense in PvP, it doesn’t make any sense in PvE.

What was fixed is that it does kick the owner out of the dungeon too, they never said it wouldn’t kick other members of the group anymore.

Why does agony punish vitality builds?

Irrespective of agony, vitality builds suffer because of the fixed rather than percentage based #6 heal ability. Of course, some classes have additional means to heal as well.

This was demonstrated by simple math in previous posts, and highlights an obvious fundamental flaw in the game.

This is how raw HP vs. defense works in most games, though. Raw HP provides spike/DoT protection, whereas defense (armor derived from toughness in GW2) provides more constant mitigation and acts as a multiplier for heal effectiveness.

There aren’t many MMOs I can think of where going high-HP low-mitigation was a good idea unless there were lots of mitigation-ignoring attacks.

My thoughts exactly. Lets not even talk about agony but stacking HP without any mitigation means you take more damages than someone stacking mitigation and no HP and guess what, the high mitigation setup is always easier to get back to full health.
Vitality without mitigation has always been lacking in the healing department.
The problem with agony is that toughness won’t help you mitigate the damages either, condition removal neither, you need agony resistance or increased healing power.

Considering the same healing power, toughness is weak against big hits and conditions, vitality is weak versus agony and sustain damages cause you won’t manage to get back to full health easily.

So if you run a low hp/toughness/glass canon build, you won’t suffer as much from agony and doesn’t necessarily need lots of agony resistances against most bosses. If you run a vitality build, you will need this agony resistance or better healing. But anyway for Jade maw, at some lvl, every setup will need agony resistance cause even if you heal through it, it lasts for so long that you’re gonna get down and maybe die regardless of your setup.

Why should toughness builds be more punished than vitality ones when agony can’t be removed? It makes no sense either.

Having agony inflicting fixed damages would defeat the whole purpose of having agony resistance stat because you would just need HP. Same as if agony could be cleansed.

Consider this, me and a guild mesmer for fun went out with duelist bullying ppl today to test this. We could in 3 sec stack 25 stacks of confusion only using 2x iduelist, nullfield and a cry of frustration, If I tell you they melsted its a understatment.

I love how people can be so positive because their build wasn’t affected by a substancial nerf (yet). You can enjoy a class but not every build may suit your playstyle and when you found a build that did and that it just keep getting nerfed/bugged with every patch, I think you have the right to be pissed off and not get called lazy. My two cents. ^^

I’m so glad I decided to roll another class a few patch ago when I felt that it was just going to get worse for us. Now I’m almost always playing on my guardian and rarely touch my mesmer anymore. I had even started to gather the TA tokens with my guardian to get the set/GS for my mesmer in the hope that things would get better. It’s sad because I find this class really interesting in its gameplay but all these “features” are ridiculous now and not worth spending my time for this character anymore. I have 4 maxed crafting professions on my mesmer so at least I can still use that.

I understand it may be important in PvP but in PvE? I’m not playing pvp a lot so from what I understand you have 3 ways to shut down phantasm and it is a bit too much. As of now, you can blind/block/dodge the summon which result in no phantasm spawning at all (meaning no shatter, no phantasm trait related either and no damage of utility like creeple for example), killing the phantasm before it does anything (aoe or auto attack), dodge the phantasm attack when it is doing it in case you were bad enough not to do the first two solutions and kill it or not afterwards. Other skills from other classes are not punished that much and I don’t find it really fair. I can understant mesmer can be a pain for player not really aware of their mechanic but they can learn them too, to get better at the game, instead of having a class repeatedly nerf to compell to lazy players.

In PvE, do mobs really need a moment to react to the powerful summon? Do they have a moment to react to a HB of a warrior which does so much more damage than the best of our phantasm could possibly dream of?
Most of the time, even if you have aggro on mobs, they can just turn to your phantasm and 1 shoot him. It is even more of a problem for melee phantasm like iBerserker. And I’m not even talking about all the aoe there are in dungeons which can wipe melee/range illusions really fast (yeah they don’t know they have to get out of the red circle) and this delay is just making phantasm useless.

There was a workaround before by traiting for phantasmal fury or Vengeful image and that may be why people didn’t complain about it so much but now it just doesn’t work anymore hence the complain on this forum.

I’m happy we have the boon applied to phantasm fixed but lets be honest here, with the radius of the aoe regen (hint : it’s mediocre) and the way they die so easily, I still wonder why anyone would trait anything to rely a bit more on phantasm in their gameplay, it is just counterproductive to do so now.

I really hope, you’re going to reconsider the way phantasm are working now or at least separate things in PvP and PvE so that we can at least not be utter garbage when we want to use phantasm in PvE.

3X Fractal cost for offensive infusion?

It seems rather shortsighted that getting a ring with an offensive infusion slot requires someone to fork over 225 relics, while a defensive ring only needs 75. There’s zero stat difference. Why isn’t there 1 of each of the basic 75 shard infusions?

It’s for you to feel so happy because you just looted an ascended ring at last (after a bazillion daily bonuses) and then feel bad because you have to spend 225 relics on getting a +5 ago resist versatile infusion for it instead of 75. I bet they must have a good laugh with it. Then they’re gonna laugh twice when you’re lucky enough to drop better rings for your class and have to buy another one of these versatile infusion and see the ancient ones in your bank being useless.

On a more serious note, it’s really a pity and I don’t see any good reasons for it.

iBerserker is not fixed at all (broken since the patch before this one). It still often misses its attacks even on a dummy.
All mesmer phantasm are broken now. They don’t start attacking until at least 1 or 2 seconds after being summoned which is plenty of time to have them killed.
The fix on the boon traits (fury/retaliation/regen) seems to work though but the range of the regen proc is really really short (something around 200 radius).

This class is getting more and more unplayable outside of a shatter build with every patch (and I’m not even talking about the block/blind changes which is just a joke tbh). Are you planing to do anything regarding these issues in the near future?

If you have 5 points in Ilusions, I guess other cd reduction won’t show on the tooltip for illusions skills but are working properly.

12/3 Patch Notes and You

Greetings All!

So, mesmers got 3 bullet points in today’s patch, and while 2 of them seem very straightforward, one of them is leaving me guessing.

Specifically:
Mesmer:
Phantasms will now properly have all boons applied to them via player traits.

Does this mean that clones/phantasms will have previously unpassed player buffs (like condition duration) carried over from the increase players get via traits? This would make it similar to how it works now (as I understand it) with abilities such as condition damage/power/precision/etc.

If I have that right, second question: How about condition duration from runes (such as the 10% given via the Nightmare set)? Would these be passed on now, or is it only abilities from traits.

Third (related) question: Do gear based ability increases (say +power) get passed on to illusions? I guess I always assumed they did, but not sure if I have ever seen it confirmed, and I certainly never tested it myself.

Dev response would be great on this, as would any player based tests to check.

Condition duration and all these aren’t boons. I think they are referring to Phantasmal fury, Vengeful images and Phantasmal healing that were previously not working well together.
For your second question, I think it’s no. And for your third, I think they benefit from all our stats (pow, prec, tough etc) except vitality.

After reading today’s patch note, I was wondering if I could at last use the build I’ve always wanted with regen/fury/retaliation phantasm for pve but from what I’m reading, if our phantasms are even more messed up than before, I guess I won’t bother. It’s really disheartening.

I just came across a new one.

Lava Fractal – If you are looting the chest that spawns for saving the captives during the shaman fight, and the cutscene of him jumping off occurs, you will be stuck on whatever weapon set you had equipped. You can not swap weapons, you can not change weapons in the current slot. Getting downed and even death does not fix it.

Have you tried changing weapons manually on the hero panel? (like put another weapon on the set you’re using)
I had this bug once and this resolved it.

I won’t be initiating exploits but if my group really want to use them I won’t bother to complain except if it takes longer than the normal way. Knowing you can get dc and not be able to get back in the fractals make me tolerant towards some exploits which make you save time even if I don’t really like it.

But some exploits are just plain stupid and useless and only make up for a lack of skill or team play.

For example, the ettin one. One time I had my group who wanted to do it, imo it makes things slower so they agreed to not do it. What was my surprise when I saw our group wipe because of bad focus on mobs and not helping people who were downed. The one who wanted to do the exploit kicked me cause it was “my fault”. I told him what went wrong and it had nothing to do with using an exploit or not but just not playing as a team. Other in the group wanted me back so we started again and managed to finish the lvl.

Today, one wanted to do the exploit on the first boss in the colossus fractal. I find this one plain useless too as this boss isn’t difficult and you won’t really save time as melee have to go range and may not dps as much. Result was the dongeon was bugged, we had already finished one fractal so we had to start everything again. Needless to say people were pissed off and rage quited.

I had someone in my group do the ettin one today and he managed to bug him into his cellar making it more difficult and longer than it’s supposed to be.

I really hope all these exploits are gonna get fixed soon.

As for skipping mobs. It’s not an exploit imo and if they wanted to fix this, they should just make the mob not reset aggro when you get far enough in dungeon and that’s it.

Which means that if you don’t have 20 points in dueling for the clone on dodge (not working in chaar fractal btw) or 30 points in illusions to put distorsion at will, you’re pretty much screwed. Nice one. Do you know the clone on dodge doesn’t necessarily target the person you’re targetting? No you don’t I guess so you have poor control on this type of illusions from the moment it’s not a 1v1.
Virtues aren’t only self buff btw so explain to me why my iDefender/iDisenchanter should fail to spawn?

Oh and now portal is on cd, nevermind I’ll just do a /dance in front walls during siege or maybe try to catch arrows with my head to feel useful during the next 90s.

Hey guys, our auto-attacks do almost no damage, let’s thank god we have a mandatory 5 points trait to have our class not so broken as we rely so heavily on illusions. Oh too bad, you were blinded or with a buggy LOS, your skill went on CD with nothing to shatter or protect yourself. Wow, happily we have a few seconds off cd on our illusions skills for 5 points. Now I can have that illusion summoned, great…oh wait, it was destroyed before doing anything because of a mosquito bite. Thanks A-net, it’s amazing, what could we dream of, really, you guys should just stop complaining.

I want a mantra that fires a gigantic pew pew megalaser killing everything on its way so that people are gonna be so focused about it and QQ that they’re gonna leave all our other skills/mechanics alone and only get this one nerfed. Best elite a mesmer could dream of imo.
On a more serious note, a mantra recharging all the mantra (a bit like the renewed focus recharging virtues of guardian) would be really nice.

I am a level 80 guardian as well and when I made my “permanent” weapon choices, I picked 1. Great sword, 2. Hammer and 3. Staff. I never run a dungeon without having the staff equipped as a secondary weapon.

There are just too many situations were melee is 1. impractical, 2. inefficient, 3. against the group strategy. Guardians are a melee class and should be in melee but not having ranged is inexcusable in dungeons.

I am not disputing that their are uber Guardians who can melee 100% of the time and maybe the OP is one of those uber Guardians. But if you team asks you to go range and you refuse, thus go against team strategy, your team is under no obligation to stick with you.

My thoughts exactly. I play a guardian too with hammer and staff mostly but I do switch for scepter/shield for some fights to be more efficient.
In the dredge fractal for example, I generally have the aggro on the last boss (he doesn’t like me sigh) and I find it much more convenient to fight him with scepter/shield and staff. If it’s the dredge one, I’ll take wall of reflection for his bombs, that way you protect your team mates and you do lots of damage. You can lead the boss where you want more easily from range and kite him more efficiently. You can immobilize him under the lava with scepter #3. You can switch to staff to speed up your team for kitting, empower with staff#4 to burst him and heal your team. Even if I don’t enjoy the scepter and I may not dps as much with it than with my hammer, I know I’ll be more efficient with it on some fights.
In the chaar fractal, it’d be funny if I tried to get those oils with my hammer. Sure your mates can take care of these for you but the sooner oils are destroyed, the sooner you destroy that door and get going and if you’re in a pug, you can’t be sure everybody is gonna survive and be able to damage those oils.

In the asura fractal, I change almost all my utility skill to get reflective ones to help people during the harpie phase. Sure you could just go melee if you want and leave your group to fall over and over but I’d rather grab stability shout, reflective wall, spirit shield and scepter/shield so that I can prevent them from falling and still damage the harpies.

I know it’s not really fun to use weapons you don’t like or don’t find efficient but I started to enjoy the scepter a bit more as I learnt how to use it properly for some fights. The scepter could use some tweaks to be better but it gets the job done when you need range.

Now I don’t think I would kick you from group for that, unless you’re a pain in the bum on top of that or failing entirely and holding the group back because you’re stuborn.

Altruistic healing gear advice

If you go pow/tough/vit gear I suggest you grab 5 superior runes of the ranger and another superior rune giving 25 prec (Lyssa, Rata sum, etc). You need critical chance to be effective with an AH build.
Now if you grab a knight gear, you can go either 6 soldiers or boon duration runes.

To be honest, I quite don’t care if they are 2 or 20 if the job is done properly. It doesn’t change the fact that they messed up completly our class in the last patch. Before implementing the changes, it means that several persons didn’t see the flaws coming with the changes? No one in this team actually playing some PVE to know how buggy the LOS is and how the changes they made would make things so bad? Nobody knowing the core mechanic of our class to feel it wouldn’t be ok to prevent us from working at all with a dodge/blind? Nobody even testing these changes to see how the berserker was unintentionaly nerfed in damages with their “fix”?
I could believe 2 persons wouldn’t but a whole team, that’s quite scary.
And lets not forget the mesmer post about our bugged trait/skill where most of them have not been adressed yet at all (same for other classes) and when they are (phantasmal haste), they still don’t work properly.
I start to believe our class will never get fixed only nerfed and seeing how many people even in this forum are ok with it and just tell you to run x build cause it was left untouched or l2p makes it even worse.

First, as it was said, range is really short. Then if you have the trait giving your fantasm fury or retaliation, the regen won’t proc until the other buff has worn off. Finally, if you have one of the two other traits that I mentioned earlier, they won’t refresh at all because of phantasmal healing.
If you want to heal other people, you can use a mantra build but beware, it heals up to 5 persons so pets/illusions can get the heal instead of your allies, isn’t it wonderful?

Illusions aren’t pets, obviously but they are our ressource and our core gameplay mechanic. I play a guardian too and I wouldn’t imagine the uproar if they couldn’t pop their shouts/virtue/symbols because of obstructed messages poping on their screen or because of being blind/dodged. I’d rather have a mana bar back instead of illusions at the current time.

If illusions were simple attacks working like the swing of a sword, I’d be fine with that but being denied most of our traits/shatters because of buggy LOS or blind/dodge is ridiculous.
Our illusions are already hard countered by any aoe and sometimes don’t even have time to do anything before being wiped out and lets be honest, almost every class/dungeon got aoe, now buggy LOS or blind/dodge can even prevent them from spawning at all.

Our illusions aren’t pets or ground targeted skills but they aren’t simple attack skills either and shouldn’t be treated as such.
Before, people could deny illusions the damages by dodging their attack at the right time or just walking out of their attack (izerker/warden) but we’d still have ressource for shatters or our traits. Now a simple dodge/blind/buggy LOS can just shut us down offensively and defensively. No other class is treated this way.

You… Made a video just to declare an opinion that others have already simply stated to me? I guess I should feel honored. I like your Charr, by the way.

I guess I’ll just rephrase my counter to this argument again by stating: Summoning a Phantasm has the effect of creating a thing which then hurts the enemy. It is an attack by my definition of “A thing you do that hurts other things.” I’ve not seen a compelling argument to the contrary. The only Phantasm that doesn’t really do any significant amount of damage is the Warden, which I’ve already expressed an opinion on.

Phantasmal disenchanter and defender doesn’t do significant damages either.

Nothing is more satisfying than just barely jump-dodging a rolling karka that has already flattened 40 people

In fact, even if I fail to dodge, karka rolls generally aren’t enough to bring my guardian down.

I used to main mesmer but can’t stand to play this class in PVE anymore due to pvp oriented nerfs killing our core gameplay and making us so unreliable in PVE.
I mostly do dungeons on my guardian and I love it. Tanky, decent damages, great support, nothing a mesmer can achieve in its state right now. You may miss the butterflies at first but you’ll get flashy blue lights instead.

Mantra support builds are pretty worthless now too actually. The AoE heal effects were reduced to 5 players like AoE damage. However, your clones count in this equation. I tried to run mantra support in Fractal last night and watched my party members dying as heals applied to my clones and phantasms instead of them.

No one in their right mind will want to take any sort of pet class into a dungeon now.

Now just hope you get into the chaar fractals. With all the aoe going on in there, your illusions will be wiped before they can even spawn so your mantra build will be more effective. Haha…not so funny in fact, trolled by our own illusions.

I’m switching to my guardian for the time being. More tanky, decent damages, great support for much less effort (talking about PVE here). I’ll miss the butterflies though. I bought the TA GS for my mesmer a few days ago and won’t get to use it before they decide to fix LOS/obstructed/izerker damage bugs.

What would make you give up the mesmer?

I just can’t play my mesmer in this state, it’s disheartening. It makes me sad to see what they are doing with such a great class. Mesmer mechanic is more broken at every patch. Mind you, I didn’t rolled mesmer for pvp, I almost only enjoy PVE in this game and I don’t want to just stand there in a dungeon waiting for my null field/chaos storm/time warp/feedback/portal to be off cd to be useful to my group. What I could bring with aoe cripple, aoe regen, idefender, iwarden is not reliable at all. The build I’ve always wanted to play has been bugged for a long time (inspiration fantasm traits not working with the dueling one) and now with all this LOS bugs that put your skills on cd with no effect when you clearly are in range and in sight. It’s not as if you were already happy if your fantasm could do several attacks because getting erased by any aoe, now they simply fail to spawn for odd reasons preventing you from getting benefit of your traits/shatters. It’s getting so ridiculous and frustrating, I almost only play my guardian nowadays who is tanky, does decent damage and great support for almost no efforts (AH shout build, my shouts don’t miss if I’m blinded/stun/fear, what a joke).
Knowing how long it took them to fix the problem with retreating into the ground, I wonder for how long these LOS bugs will be out but until then I don’t think I’ll get myself the motivation to really play my mesmer again and I admire those who do.

I don’t remember who posted this video but at least it made me laugh.
