If you’re using sword/pistol with pistol traited, there is a bug that cause the duelist to have a 100% projectile combo finisher instead of 20%. So with 3 of them, you can easily get max stacks but that’s a bug for sure. If it’s what you’re using, enjoy it while it’s not fixed. ^^

I’m pretty sure that bug was fixed about a week ago.

Just checked in the HoM and nope, it’s still bugged.

It is random, the buff provided by chaos storm can be aegis but not always. I play a mesmer and sometimes I won’t get aegis even if I’m standing in chaos storm for the full duration. I often use it to try to get swiftness and lots of time I don’t get a proc of it. It’s a random boon between aegis swiftness and retaliation and without luck, you can very well not get it at all, let alone all your party. You have to stand in it too btw, with shout/virtue, a guardian can pretty much get closer to the people he wants to benefit from aegis and then move away.
You also seem to forget that chaos armor you gain from combo field is the beta version of it. You need to be touched to receive a random boon between protection regen and swiftness, you won’t necessarily receive protection unlike the #4 from staff. Here again it’s random and you have to be touched taking non protection-mitigated damage to trigger it. Guardian can provide protection to his allies before they take any damages at all.

I’m not saying your build is inefficient. I’m just saying you’re a bit too much optimistic with chaos armor and chaos storm.
Also you need blast finisher to provide it to your party and you don’t have any with this setup so you rely on your team mate to proc all these chaos armor with leap or blast. Now if you used signet of inspiration, you could share all your boons with your allies provided they are close enough though.

To be honest, I don’t remember having a hard time leveling my mesmer with GS/staff but then again if was before the nerfs/bugs to phantasm so maybe that could explain it too.

GS with sword/pistol could be good imo. When you have a GS, you generally want to stay at max range but if you couple it with a sword/pistol, you do good damages at close range too and have good defense at close range with blurred frenzy or even GS #5 or distorsion/daze if needed. Of course GS is not as good for defense as a staff but ppl don’t expect you to want them to fight at close range if they see you with a GS and may even try to get close to you.
GS plus sword/pistol means vulnerability/might stacks with mirror blade, cripple with iBerserker, boon removal (ok, mind stab is not that convenient but it’s still there), stun and snare with sword/pistol and good damages at long and close range.
With the new buff to might on shatter, I guess you can get really high stacks of might with this setup meaning blurred frenzy/mind wrack/confusion are really gonna melt faces.
It’s all theory though and it comes down to playstyle too but GS + sword/pistol can be good imo. ^^

Seems to me a lot of people here assume you get 3 stacks of might for each illusion you shatter… that’s not true. You get 3 stacks of might when you shatter, independent on the number of illusions you just shattered.

Actually you do get three stacks per illusion shattered, not counting illusionary personae that doesn’t count for it though. That means a 3 illusions shatter gives you 9 stack of might.

Well the heal you received (pulse one) wasn’t matching the one on the tooltip at all, it was the same as the impact heal. The problem is, there are so many tooltip inaccuracies that if you were new to engineer (like me for example) and didn’t know how the skill behaved before, you could be mistaken about it and think it was normal behavior.
Ah well, it’s true that it was healing a lot. If they could make it a water field, we could get back some aoe heal from it with a blast finisher, could be nice.

So you think having to go 25 into illusions to be competitive for a mesmer focusing on dps is normal? If you want to run a phantasm build, you can’t necessarily go 25 into illusions. That’s what the op is about. Not even talking about considering illusions as pet or not, it’s hardly the point here, the point is that this minor trait seems almost mandatory for dps as the 5 pt in illusion one, but this one is 25 points, not 5. So you have a trait that’s almost only benefiting shatter spec and make other dps spec seems lackluster. Where is the build diversity in that?
Having a phantasm build doesn’t mean no use of shatters, just a different one but with this change, this dps spec is not competitive anymore.
I don’t ask for a nerf to this trait btw, I ask for a buff to the phantasm spec. Heck, even for a defense spec, phantasm aren’t really worth it anymore with the nerf to illusionary membrane.
How is this balanced?
You now have traits built around having better phantasm but they are not worth taking anymore be it for defense or offense, shatter-spec do it better anyway.

I think it´s okay that the oponent doesnt lose target.
Instead I wish for the clones produced on dodge to target my target instead of a random enemy nearby

on the flip side, having a random target means you are able to daze multiple targets with F3 without the grandmaster trait.

You could still do it by targeting another ennemy to set a dodge clone on it. The way it is now just prevents you from having control over your clones and it’s quite a pity.

sinican, that statement is as stupid as saying guardians center around virtues.
Certainly, it’s part of the class and you can focus your traits more towards it, but you don’t HAVE to focus your build around it.
Even a mesmer focusing towards phantasms would occasionaly use shatters (invuln, some final burst etc.) or at least that’s how it was supposed to be until Anet started nerfing phantasms more and more.

I must be doing it wrong on my guardian, I have not 30 points into virtues and not all the traits upgrading them.
Same on my engineer, I don’t have 30 points in tools, I guess I’m not playing these classes properly.
Oh and btw, still wondering why we have traits making our phantasm get more hp if we’re supposed to always shatter them after their first attack. Wondering why we also have a trait lowering the cd between their attacks. Really strange indeed.

Maybe they don’t know where the problem comes from yet? But an answer would be nice nonetheless. Last time I checked, they didn’t even answer in the game bug forum either.
I don’t want to sound negative or rude but when moa/other transformations were resetting trait lines last patch, it got fixed real quick.

You’re not adding all the numbers you see, are you? iBerserker hits 4 times and the last number you see is the total.
Spatial surge hit 3 times in a row, the last number is the total for the whole attack, don’t add them up.

What would be nice with this trait is that clone would be linked to your target and if you don’t have any the closest one. It would give us a better control over the clones it generates. When it’s a 1v1, it’s not really a problem but when there are several ennemies it can be.

I don’t necessarily feel they should nerf this but they should really buff other spec as I can see less and less reasons to not play a shatter focused build now. Maybe you can play around with shatter builds a bit more but you still have to go deep into the illusion tree and are not given much choice if you don’t like to rely heavily on shatters.
I’m also quite scared of what such a buff could bring in terms of nerfs in the future.

So ArenaNet really does hate Engineers?

Look at all them signets. Face it, Engineers will never be good. Play them for enjoyment but roll another class for your main.

Wow, this pic alone made me lose faith in the balance team more than anything else they could have done to any class. Sorry, I’m a bit predjudiced against 5 sig warriors as most of the ones I’ve ran dungeons with were awful. :O

Grenade DPS

What other range weapon misses completely every time a mob changes direction (besides flamethrower LOL)? What other class weapon takes up to 3 seconds to register damage (in a 10s encounter you’re doing nothing for 30% of that time). What other weapon loses DPS dramatically (down to zero at times) if the user has to stay mobile? Anet, please enlighten me.

And I never understood why grenades were nerfed in PvP. Who even uses grenades in tPvP? How do you even hit an actual human being capable of unpredictable movements, besides random luck? I would like to meet these players who were making grenades OP in tpvp, and get next week’s lotto numbers from them.

Guardian scepter is pretty bad on moving targets too. That doesn’t make the nerf to grenades less bad though. Just pointing it out.
I started playing an engineer recently and leveled to 80. During my leveling, I tried the grenades and didn’t like it to be honest. I was feeling it was really too much of an effort and really bad for my hands and I’m not even talking about lags if you happen to have some, the kit is pretty much useless. I couldn’t see myself run the grenade kit as a main one for these reasons.
Imo, if they want to nerf the damage as they did, they should improve the travel speed of the grenades or maybe their radius so that it’s more reliable on moving targets and not completly OP on stationnary one. I guess that would still be a big nerf to those who can aim them perfectly.
Again I have not been playing an engineer for a long time but that’s what I felt when leveling.

When out of combat, making it only proc the swiftness boon would be more reliable. But in this case I guess they would have to reduce its duration so that it’s not up 100% of the time. Then when you get in combat, it gets the regular effects.

I’d rather use the monk/water/sanctuary runes. I feel you’re trading too much damage for what healing and boon duration are gonna bring but I guess some will manage to make great use of it. ^^

Been testing iBerserker a bit too in the HoM where there are the 3 golems near the underwater combat zone. The first attack generally have 4 hits but not always.
The ones after that can go from 4 hits to none and generally there aren’t 4 hits but less. I would understand missing some of the hits on a moving target but on stationnary one, it feels a bit ridiculous.
The overall damage seems better than before though and the delay too.

So what do you think about sigils now? You going to continue running the same setup. Look forward to hearing what other people think will work well.

After looking at these patch notes, i’ll definitely be staying with TANKCAT.

For Sigils, Battle is looking to be the most attractive option, by far. Perma 6 stacks of might, yes please :>

Hydromancy seems very attractive, but I just tested it and it doesn’t seem to work.

Energy will probably be my second choice, still doing some testing though. I’m sure there’s other good combinations as well

Haven’t been online yet, I’m still downloading. Did you try the hydromancy sigil with another on swap sigil equiped on your other weapon? Just asking because you can’t have both at the same time.

It means that super elixir got rebverted back to its previous state, it was healing WAY to much this patch.

Quite sad about the vigorous precision change. I’ll see how it goes in term of survivability but it doesn’t look good.

What does that mean. From what I saw they had buffed empower to last 10s but it still lasted only 8s. Are they updating the skill so that it lasts 10s or updating the tooltip back to 8?

You need at least one person to stay alive during that phase so that he will rez everyone when the boss is stun at 50% hp. Your best bet is having agony resist, having swiftness to run out of the circles and saving your dodge for the ligh aoe. Having energy sigil/vigor boon can help a lot too. Once that phase is over, it’s pretty much done as the other phases are much easier.

Any 20+ FotM Guards here? Looking for input.

Lvl 23 for the moment. I run an AH build with hammer/staff and switch to scepter/shield for some fractal/bosses. I generally have shouts for utility skills but switch a lot to wall or spirit shield or even the bubble of absorption when reviving an ally on some occasion.
I have two sets of gear : one with power/toughness/precision with monk/water/sanctuary runes and a pow/vit/tough with ranger/lyssa for the crit chance. I have 10 agony resist at the moment.
When I’m doing a lvl20+ fractal, I equip the knight gear as vitality is more punished by agony if you have the same healing power as you have more hp to heal back. If you know you have a hard time dodging some boss attacks that inflicts agony, equipping a knight set that doesn’t boost your hp too much could help as you will heal back better. Your best bet is to dodge these attacks though or get agony resist but I know you can’t do much versus rng.

An example of how vitality can be a “bad” thing is lvl20 jade maw. I manage to survive the agony with 10 resist with the knight gear (meaning not even going down at all) if I time my heal/virtues/utilities well but I just can’t with soldier gear (I go down 100% of the time but generally don’t die except if I’m focused by his attack just after).
When I have 15 or 20 agony resist, I guess I’ll switch back to soldier gear though.

Just to add something to the great advice of Trungalung, for the grawl Shaman, you can use GS #5 on the elementals to pack them nicely and have an easier time to kill them with aoe.

I’ve been thinking about taking wall of reflection/spirit shield for the shaman fight as I do for the harpy/asura fractal. But seeing how in the PUG I played with, most of the time people don’t really make use of them, I generally don’t and just pick the bubble on rez. At my lvl, it’s not really that difficult yet but I’ll guess on later levels, it will be a good strat.

It would be nice to have a fractal where each person of the group become one of the member of Destiny’s edge and do one of the epic battles they did in the past. There are 6 members so one would be a npc and other would be your team. Your skill bars would be changed accordingly. ^^

As a guardian, for this fight I generally pick up the trait that create an absorption bubble when you start to rez a team mate. I find it pretty usefull against this boss.
