i stil think the dragons we now get are stil a warm up for the big boss and i dunno who that is ??

becouse Zaitan was lieutenant elder Dragon maby Moremoth is maby also lieutenant ??
and if you no that rank its not rely high

so i think sooner ore later we much face something much bigger and much more terror what we now get

Was Zhaitan a lieutenant?

I thought Liutenants was those smaller dragons like Glint, Shattere, Tequal and Claw of Jormag?

This will probably end up consumed into the big Canthan thread. Regardless…

I’d probably go to Elona first; It’s geomatrically closer to what we currently have (the gate to the Crystal Desert is even right there already at Ebonhawke), and makes more sense from both a technical and lore viewpoint.

For Canthan, we’d have to pass through Bubbles – and it’d be a shame for ANet to pass-up the opportunity to do some full-on water zones and a water-based boss fight with Bubbles, but ANet definetly need more time to fleshout and revamp the underwater combat system. Don’t get me wrong, I like it as it is, at least the base design, but it has very limiting options and iffy balance and could do with much expansion and retweaking before it’s employed in full force for a dragon showdown.

Then continuing from the lore point of view again; On the other side of Kralkatorrik we have Palawa Joko and his army of undead. While Joko is a villainous character, he is the lord of Elona and the orders avoid getting involved in simple politics (and at this point, any Elonian-lead fight against Joko would basically be a rebellion), and would make for a strong ally to aid in the fight against the dragons, and Kralkatorrik would certainly struggle more against a two-pronged attack from both sides. Also, whatever is left of the Order of Sunspears in Elona would make for strong combat companions – afterall, the Sunspears are prooven god-killers – you could use that kind of power and experience against the dragons.

Futhermore, due to Cantha’s xenophobia, the Tyrian Orders would be very unlikely to find an ally in Cantha (considering their ranks are made up of all different species), and it’s actually more likely that they could find an ally in Joko, and it makes sense for the Pact to collect allies against the dragons first, to ensure greater resources for future victories against other dragons, before collecting further enemies.

That is an interesting point. Introduce the Sunspears, introduce Spears and Polearm weapons in the game! I like that.
If the Crystal Desert will be a massive open desert do you think they would do some worm-mount riding system like Nightfall had?

Guild Wars Nightfall was an amazing game, because it really honored Arabian and North African folklore and mythology. I haven’t seen that respectful representation of the middle east outside of something like Prince of Persia. It was so refreshing to see a game having inspiration from that part of the world without the “terrorist” sthick we see in games like Call of Duty!:)

hey mate, this is not specifically about Cantha, but just a discussion about all the areas of of the elder dragons. You could also argue that Southern Orr or the North Shiverpeaks are more important over Elona/Cantha:)

But I don’t know. What would Sun Tzu do in this situation?

GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sad Swordfish.9743

I think it’s unfair. Guild Wars 1 had many skills that were not fun to use. I had a lot of friends who never wanted to move away from WoW because the skills in GW1 was “boring”.

Often you could not even see any real difference in skill animations, or sounds. Many skills were near duplicates of each other in function but had some outragously small differential numberal 0.4 faster recast or 5 higher cost. Outragously little differences.

I think quality is a lot more important than just stuffing skills in there. Despite my annoyance of certain builds in GW2 sPvP and GW2 WvW, I find the game to be pretty balanced. Even Ranger which is the most laughed at profession, can do some things really well in different scenarios.

My main is a Warrior and I have found him to be just as diverse as my Warrior/Ritualist was back in the day. I can spec him for mobility with GS, I can spec him for CC with the hammer, I can do buff/support/healing with shouts, I can do stationary buffs with banners, I can do bleeds with axes and swords, I can do combos of all the above with warhorn. Even if the shield and mace is not as useful as the others, I really can’t say I can’t play my Warrior in a lot of different ways, and viable ways.
I bring the longbow in WvW, I use the GS in WvW. I run around with S/S and Axe/Warhorn in PvE. I farm with A/A, I do fractals with H/S/S.

Seriously. I am sure I technically had more options in GW1, but I only stuck to 1/3 of the skill set. A lot of the skills in GW1 was copy pasted nonsense.

Finally, it’s important to understand that MORE CHOICE, is not always better. Here is a TED talk of Malcom Gladwell talking about the paradox of choice. His argument is this – Too much choice, and we become unhappy, no choice and we become unhappy. But a few choices, so we can keep an overall over view of all the choices, are the best requirement for happiness. And I think he is right. Watch it here: http://www.ted.com/talks/malcolm_gladwell_on_spaghetti_sauce

In my mind, I think I understand OP, but I think he is looking at it the wrong way. It’s the way damage migration is done. It’s the way the game rewards damage, and not support. you dont get a gold star for reviving and healing and buffing. there is no pvp scoreboards who track the healing, condi removals and so on. That’s the problem. The game only encourages DAMAGE, DAMAGE DAMAGE. If it encouraged other means of helping the effort, and if the enemies needed more than just direct damage to succeed, then I think all players would use all the various builds more. Because they are in the game. There is amazing build diversity in GW2, but people dont use it.

I think it’s safe to say that Elder Dragons themselves are chaos.
From their sheer size alone, they are the cause of destruction, famine, disease and death.
While Kryta might have been spared from the worst of it, outside of having to deal with the influx of Undead, can the same be said for the Elonian people to the south, who are being tormented and annihilated by the might of Kralkatorrik, a dragon much more fierce and powerful than Zhaitan?

Could the same be said for Cantha which has gone completely dark, as only whispers emerge from the scared lips of superstitious sailors talking about a massive dragon beneath the sea with menacing tentacles, that is the cause of the corruption of the Krait.
Even in a best-case scenario is it even possible to imagine these two volatile regions not being completely sunken into chaos, and possible civil war against each other? With both sides looking out for their own survival, nobody can come to an agreement or plan.

If you as the player, had a choice, which cause of action seeks more important?
The Crystal Desert links Kryta to Elona so you could argue that the threat of Kralkatorrik is more immediate, but can you really dispute the fear of the Deep Sea Dragon, given the Kraits massive involvement in the pre-mature awakening of the latest threat, Modremoth?
Their blasphemous and occult obelisk brings an ill omen to all.
The potential tidal waves, tsunamis, rising water levels could indirectly cause untold destruction.
What would you do? Or would you keep exploring Orr?
Would you keep the orders – The Vigil, the Whispers and the Priory locked in the re-taking of the southern parts of Orr?
Is the answer not to take sides in this conflict between warring neighbors simply trying to survive, but to find the answers to the weakness and origins of these dragons as a means to defeat them?
_____________________________

I personally feel the best cause of action, would be to let the Vigil try and fight Kralkatorrik head-on. Travel through the Crystal Desert, retake Sulfurous, Vabbian and Kournan regions.
From there, recapture the island of Istan and the city of Kamadan. Kamadan being a port, can be rebuild and used as a stronghold. Not only for dealing with with Kralkatorrik.

How would you deal with the Elder Dragons after Zhaitan? If we assume Modremoth is a dragon exclusively for the Living Story, and the other ones being reserved for an expansion, how would you approach it?

I also disagree. There has been no problem with people joining from other home servers. Thanks to representing/standing down, it’s easy to let people figure out if they want to pay to transfer to move to the other server, should they want to (mainly for WvW).

The fact is that the mega server increased my enjoyment of this game tremendously. even when things have gotten heated I am always in the same map as my guildies, and it even knows to pull me towards people who are just on my friends list. They did a great job with the algorithms on this one:)

People also chew through traditional expansions and then never return until a new one comes out.

This is just the way it is. You would need to make some sort of meta-game in a sandbox setting were competing players through political/economic/power/crafting/strategy fights each other. if there is a system to support this sort of eco-system, a game plays itself and you wont be begging for content.

Its just really really hard to do. We havent really seen that since the original SWG, though Archeage is trying to do some of the same things. get in prison for killing unarmed players, make a farm and grow lifestock and sell for profit. become a politician, or make siege warfare.

I bought the shadow assassin costume on my male sylvari, and it looks great and I love it (though the main colour has an odd lustre but whatever).

However, I then though, why not try a thief, this costume would look kitten on a female human thief….so I made one, put the costume on….and WTF? First no proper head piece, its now a mask, secondly why is my ninja assassin showing more skin than most pole dancers, and WTF is going on with the comedy (stupid) bow comming off her kitten ?

Why Anet? Why?

Why take a good skin and make it like that on female characters? are you artists juvenile sexually charged teenagers that all women costumes need to flash as much skin as possible?

I was extremely disappointed in seeing this. Deleted the character.

edit: to avoid confusion, I dont get why the female version is SO different from the males….I dont object to revealing outfits, but for an assassins costume, lack of a hood and a massive kitten bow seam an odd choice.

Why delete the character? I don’t get it.

Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sad Swordfish.9743

Sad Swordfish.9743

I would be a hypocrite to speak out against other peoples rights to ride virtual pixels in their make-belief online world!

Anyway, I have not enjoyed mounts in most MMOs. World of Warcraft being a big one. As fun as the creatures you can collect are, I always feel I grow bored of them quickly. Repetitive animations, they all look alike, they create all sorts of clipping problems, they look awful when jumping with them/trying to use them in water/spinning around quickly in the air/blocking npcs.
I also dislike the POOF appearance out of thin air when entering combat or calling a mount out. just pulling a mount of your pocket. Some games have done the mount thing were it comes from off-screen when the character whistles, and that is a cool effect.

Another problem with mounts is that if you are on a mount the tendency is to ignore the people who are not mounted. your not participating and contributing. Not only that but you can flee while leaving other people behind or run away from people in WvW, which sucks because there is so many escapism tools already as is.

Finally the work involved to do something like this justice would require massive resources. It would be like choosing mounts over a couple of new classes. Thats how much work they would have to put in to not ruin it like world of warcraft ruined itself with a gazillion mounts turning it into a circus instead of a rich fantasy game.

What is it about mounts? Is it the act of extending something control-able and ownable beyond your own avatar? But surely there has to be more to it than that. Otherwise people would be happy with all the crazy events turning people into things/creatures and/or letting them use creatures/machines/instruments/devices.

Is it the collecting? Surely I can see why hunting for mounts is a lot more fun and visual than a mini, but I am really afraid that mounts would take up a lot of time, that it would be put inside the game poorly, ruin immersion in cities when everyone has a mount and the doesnt feel like a fantasy world but a cheap knock off of pokemon-rider: the game, ruin community when helping one another because people just run away, make WvW more dull when people just try to get OOC and mount away, killing solo pvping.

If it was me I would rather have a boat to sail to the other side of orr, elona and cantha. A ship that can be upgraded and have recruited people. do ship battles, customize it, name it, pvp with it in WvW, over take PvE ships, and so on.

At this rate...a big let down.

There is nothing wrong taking a break from GW2. It doesn’t need to have a raid tier calender of 6-12 hours of daily grindy content like other MMOs.

I think GW2 is best played in chunks. Thanks to the lack of monthly fee you can always quickly get back into it, and because there is no vertical gear or levelling grinds, when you have added more new content you can do it.

I know a lot of people who are unsatisfied every time they get a new bit of game of thrones. It makes them mad. they rather wanna wait three months and binge on the entire season in one sitting.

That’s okay. Others like myself, like the short bursts of content.

Jon Peters on this subject from back in beta: http://i.imgur.com/YuLDmMQ.jpg

He is referencing that empty sPvP servers are good for dueling, but also that they want to do in-world dueling.

I would love to see dueling. It’s one of the big that I really feel takes away from GW2. sPvP and WvW are serious business. In a duel you are fighting to 1 hp. Your not dying, you are not respawning, it is just about the friendly ability to fight your friends anywhere.

As Otaku said, they could also use the same model but make it smaller to make a Tanto. Then other classes in turn can get the Katana look with knives.

More customization and more playable content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sad Swordfish.9743

Sad Swordfish.9743

Regarding the playable content I post and as many. I mean, new content, new classes, new weapons for existing classes, new skills or ability to enhance or customize existing ones, to make weapons or spells to buff special full length by profession. In definitva make a tactical dose without affecting the ease of play for which they prefer.
On the other hand the personal history of the living world, should have a common thread in history and a number of subplots that accompany and make your story unique, the fact that you could choose certain lines of the plot would give a lot of emotion the game. For example you choose to kill a person if the salvases could be your ally for a limited time and if you kill possibly have another ally of the “opposite side”. Another example would be that you could choose an alternative way to get physically speaking to the same destination, in conclusion that not everything is predetermined and is common to all because it is boring in the long term.
Dragon Age is a good example to follow in the latter, and although not graphically (since I know it’s a hard work) could easily be achieved with a good plot and little dramatization written a very good result.

MMORPGs are extremely complex. Dragon Age has the benefit of being a single player game, but even as far as writing goes, you will see a lot of critique in regards to Dragon Ages storyline.

If you compare the narrative structure of a good fantasy book like A Song of Ice and Fire or In the Name of the Wind series, all video games stories without questions seems mediocre. Even the best ones.

Time is money, and money is the goal for ArenaNet. There is no point in keeping Guild Wars 2 alive for NCsoft if it doesn’t make a good sum of money. That is wise they often take the mainstream or easy route in terms of design instead of a complicated one. One needs to understand the costly expenses of game development to really be able to make assumptions. I don’t. I just assume. It can’t be that easy to just do it like Dragon Age. A single player RPG they worked on for 5-7 years.

Dungeon armor/weapons.. (there are a few of these)
Triple wurm skins
PvP skins since you can not buy the skins.

Are you falling asleep during your work?

The topic is precisely about “new skins”. Dungeon/PvP skins have been there since the beginning. Teq/Wurm skins are the only additions, hence my sarcasm above.

Ascended Armor

and I’m probably missing a lot of stuff.

Should more of the items come from game drops instead of being gem store purchases? Sure, but the game has to stay funded somehow. It would be nice to see the source for these be as specific as a single quest/boss instead of a general area of the game though.

There is also all the new Exotic weapons they added with the champion revamp patch in Queens Jubilee. At least 34; http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_loot_bag

Many of them are also some of the best skins in the game, Cobalt, Rapier, Monsoon, Genesis.

And then when you add to the fact, that all the things in the gem store can be aquired for free by merely trading your gold for gems. Many of my guildies have never spend a dime in the gem store but still got a lot of exclusive gem store weapons and armor just from trading their gold.

Hardly a benefit in joining guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sad Swordfish.9743

For a game that name itself guild wars, there is hardly any benefit in joining one. We sick of playing with pug that don’t know wtf they’re doin that’s taking up valuable slot while guildies are spamming join. We want more challenging pve content that we can do as guild and not have to show up a hour earlier just to get into the map. By challenging i mean mega bosses and not some guild mission challenge difficultly.
For the past 2 years the game has been a focus toward casual that could give a about the content once they finish with the achievement and anything more difficult outside of spamming 1 are avoided with a 10 feet pole.

That is quite the condescending attitude you have there. I think that honestly, if you have been doing Teq/Wurm every day for months, maybe GW2 is simply too casual for you?

For someone like me there is plenty to do with a guild. Guild missions, all the passive guild buffs to xp, gold, looting, crafting. They are a major boon to me in WvW, and help me doing Guild Missions. Also the megaserver has never been a hassle for me trying to find guildies to play with in the same map as me. 1/5 of all people I saw in Dry Top was just guildies. It was really nice:)

GW2s end game is not for everyone, but the game does try to be inclusive towards all. I am sure that some PvE “hardcore” players will find it to not be satisfying to their needs, but in the end it’s about doing what you enjoy:)

So what? Its not worth 4 points and arms tree is kinda weak without investing 5+ points.. Your 100b will only be used after a control skill which has a long cool down anyway.

If you put those 4 in strength you get: building momentum ( more dodges and survivability) , reckless dodge ( can crit for 2k bonus damage) , great fortitude which is about 2k+ health and slashing power ( 10% damage bonus for your GS)

Compelling argument. Thank you!

And you still decided to use worthless traits such as forceful great sword ? You know that you will already have your 25 stacks of might just from the longbow and the runes of strength .

Also you are losing tons of damage by not taking slashing power. You don’t need fury either you already have perma fury with Signet of rage and signet mastery.

Greatsword damage is already not that great in PvP and without the damage modifiers and proper might stacking rotation you will not go far with a GS.

And without burst mastery you won’t be able to get 25 stacks of might. Pretty much
any power x/Bow warrior build is x/x/4-6/x/6 .

I see what you are saying but why are you saying Forceful Greatsword is useless? It is has a 20% reduction recharge. That’s being able to use the skills faster.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I’ve decided to make my Warrior all about WvW. I see it was foolish to try and make a build that would work for everything now.
Both roaming, small skirmishes and Zergs. I will convert my guardian to run my dungeons and use my Necro in sPvP.

Here is what I’m trying now:

0/2/3/0/2

Forceful Greatsword, from Arms as well as Furious Reaction (getting some Fury and Endurance from getting hit hard)

Dogged Match, Cleasing Ire, and Spiked Armor from Defense.

Versatile Rage, Warriors Sprint, Fast Hands and Mobile Strikes from Discipline.

What I get here, is mobility, speed, evades and defense. As a Roamer or someone who wants to not get owned hard in small WvW skirmishes I wonder if this will get me far.

But I am clueless about Runes and Armor. Guildies tell me to go for Cavaralier. You get less power than Berserker, but you lose so much of the precision. What good is all that Ferocity if I can’t keep precision up? I got some access to Fury (elite signet) and furious reaction when getting hit 10% of my healthpool, but is that enough?

And I have no idea what to do with runes and sigils. Besides the sigil of Energy on the Longbow, I am lost. Do I go for the Sigil of Force 5% damage or do I go for 7% Accuracy?

Rune of the Pack would give me 100+ power and 125+ precision. Stat for Stat value that’s pretty good. Rune of Sancutary could give me good stability at 20% Health. That would be really nice.

I could go for Rune of Strength and try and build up the Might stacking with a might sigil?

Ah popping your heal, here’s the problem. Warrior class is currently carried by a passive heal > the healing signet , you are not supposed to active it .

And yes evades are important in a 1v1, a mesmer using his zerker phantasm will deal at least 5k damage you have to dodge that.

spamming combustive shot gives your endurance back with building momentum and burst mastery . And the great sword #3 ability is an evade. And if you add an energy sigil to your longbow you have 1 more dodge back up every 5 sec with fast hands. Also cleansing ire will remove conditions every time you use combustive shot.

The GS/LB build is a build with a lot of evades which allows to sustain much longer even if you are zerker.

So yes the problem is your traits and your heal because I guess you are using healing surge.

With the 4/0/4/0/6 you have everything you need to survive and deal damage.

I see what you are saying I think.

I need to get more skilled at using my dodges. fast hands + energy sigil on LB gives 4 dodges pretty fast. If I can time those right I can sustain some damage.

But what do I do with my rune set then? Should I take something like runeset of the dolyak and get an additional healing effect every second next to my passive healing signet?

The PvP/WvW GS/LB build is 4/0/4/0/6 . You are not squishy with the evade on the GS, building momentum and energy sigils. Zerker warrior survives very well with that build.

And no its not a good idea to make a build for everything. Like in spvp hambow > everything else because its conquest so.. Spam AoE on a tiny point = hambow.

But I see you said you do 40% WvW then you can try the build I listed above. It’s still bad outside of 1v1 though. If you are zerging, the longbow is completely useless.

Edit : I just noticed you said you’re using traveler runes? On a warrior? The most mobile class in the game….

What do you mean evade?

A Thief/mesmer wears me down in less than 10 seconds, even after popping my heal. Using skill 3, or 5 doesn’t matter. just wears me down, even if i get them down to 50% health, they just vanish poof heals and comes back at all full health why I cant recoup much.

My Zerker Warrior is not working for me. The “Strength in numbers” trait is great for allies, as is my 25 Might stacking madness. Everything in my build facilities it. Sigils that increases might, traits that apply might to allies when using shouts. reduced shout recharge.

But besides the 150 points of power and the might stacking, I feel my Warrior is a template for disaster in sPvP or WvW. Squishy as hell, no condi removal, no regeneration, no healing, no anti CC. I’m absolutely pathetic against mesmer or thiefs, but all others, like Hammer Warriors or guardians just wear me down.

I’ve wasted a lot of money on trying to make a jack-of-all-trades build that will be decent in all modes of play, but I have found this difficult. I’ve been stupid by salvaging my exotic armor each time I tried a new build. So salavaged my knights, my berserkers, my cleric. All builds I have experimented with. Both due to costs and due to lack of bag space, and just because I don’t like swapping gears all the time.

Can you help me make a build! ? One that is solid all-around. One that is competent. One that can work well in all game modes when played right.

And one which uses:

Greatsword / Longbow. I’ve always used these two weapons. They are my favorites, and the most fun to me. I want to get a build working around this weapon set.

Rune of the traveler set ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Traveler ) < this is my favorite rune set, because I love the 25% Perma speed boost. It’s not even just a survival, mobility issue, but also an issue of my character looking better animated when running faster. I’ve tried other perma swiftness builds, but I don’t like that. I would really prefer to make something work around this rune set.

I spend my time:

20% dungeons / fractals
20% sPvP
40% WvW
20% solo activities

Do you have any suggestions guys?

attached is my current build. As you can see it’s focused for GS damage, and cooldown reduction. the tactics tree is all to facilitate the might stacking and the strength in numbers trait. it doesn’t do much good besides the group benefits in dungeons. it doesn’t help in WvW and sPvP so I feel screwed.

TL;DR – just a zerker warrior who doesn’t know what to do or play with his rune of the traveler GS/LB.

15-20 Legendary Armors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sad Swordfish.9743

If / when ArenaNet decide to make legendary armors, what would be the best way to go about it?

Currently the problem with the Ascended Armors is that there are only 3 different kinds, so there is not much variety. Legendary Weapons are much more diverse because you got 15-20 to choose from. So even if many people are pursuing a Legendary, there is a bigger chance it will be more rare and feel more special because the choice is larger?

But armors are more complicated. Not only do you have to model every piece and make sure it fits the animation of the character, you also have to make sure it works for all five races, and both genders, meaning that making 1 armor has to be individually created for 10 different player models. Then you have to make sure the armor works with all other pieces of armors.
Unlesss of course… you forced people either to wear the entire legendary set or nothing?

But how would you go about it? Would you gender or race lock armors and make them themed to the different races? So Charr’s dont get the short shaft when once again a armor designed for humans will be comic relief once the charr gets it on?

Or would you go for class lock and make themes? Will Guardians get a unique Paragon-GW1 style armor, or will Elementalists get a Monk naked-tattoo type armor? Will Thiefs get an exclusive Ninja armor?

or would you simply have that their armors progression follows the same path. Just like with Ascended armor. One heavy set, one medium set and one light set, and just hope it won’t be too copy/pasted to see too many people running around in the same 3 legendary armors?

How important is it to be able to dye the legendary armors? the radiant and hellfire achievement reward armors are some of the most visual striking armors in the game, but can’t be dyed. If the Legendary Armors will be crazy and shoot rainbows and summon dragon minions from the chest area, it might be hard to make them dye-able. Is this important to you?

I think it’s hard to give feedback, because we don’t know how much time and work goes into making one armor set work for all races and characters. I think it would be cool if medium armor got some non-leathery trenchcoats. And if Charr got some armors that looked good with helmet on.

It might be unrealistic to hope they could make 15-20 different sets of legendary armors to keep diversity up. But they did it with the weapons. Is it that unlikely you think?

But guys, that’s the thing.

Why should players be able to stand 50 people “inside” each other? why cant they disable this for WvW. after all, it forces you to tab target into stead of relying movements and positioning right?

And if people cant run through each other, you cant have 50 people right by the commander. So create force field, in which everyone in the field gets any buff and passive bonus as long as they are in the field.

WvW is inherently balanced. they said this before release. I think it’s unavoidable that people will band together and gang up on smaller guys. this is WvW. drama, and betrayal is part of the fun.

ive been on a a bad WvW server, and everyone moved including my entire guild. thats just the way it is. it’s utopia to suggest you could control it without restricting people from playing with their friends.

blobs are what a many players standing on top of each other are called to stack buffs. by staying in a blob and tab-targeting you can get many kills without strategy, just spaming your default #1 attack.

But why are buffs applied in a circle?`why is it not a straight line that players have to fill. or a arrow shaped formation circle. then players would move like an army. a light blue force field, that applies the buffs to everyone in the field. so a army of 50-100 players would have a really long horizontal, arrow shaped or some other army formation, and a player on on end, would have all his party buffs, and effects applied to everyone within the big field. that way you could have armies fight opposite each other. picture below to illustrate

if enemy players kill people in the middle of this buff/protection line, the line has been broken. just like in real warfare.

this would increase the level of strategy significantly and allow enemies to try and flank and attack another group of players with a different purpose!

I have no idea how it would work, it just seems weird to me that we are just doing the blob thing. it might have something to do with players being able to go through each other. I understand this is an anti-griefing mechanic as players. never the less its strange.

just an idea!

Why is there still no dueling?

Yes please. It’s really annoying and intrusive we can’t duel people in the open world. Please give us the tools to have fun. It doesnt hurt anybody. The world is so static as it is. There is so few types of events people can do out in this living breathing world. our guild wants to do our duel initiations for guild promotions.

dueling is unbalanced but fun.

So…. just because I only cite 2 incidents (even though I stated it was two of many) it only happened twice. Check. How about all the other incidents cited by other players in the numerous other posts on this exact same topic.

That’s right. You don’t see them, therefore they don’t exist. That’s what’s “silly.” Feel free to keep cherry picking though. It’s not helping your argument at all.

how about the numerous times I’ve already stated it’s a question of dealing with harassment in general and has nothing to do with dueling in specific? if you ignore posts, don’t attack others for ignoring yours (which was already a repetition and has been discussed).

“its question of dealing with harassment” and from whence does the harassment come? Yes, it boils down to the person doing the harassing, but part of the issue is also enabling them. Giving them things they can use to feed that perversity. Does that (sadly) sometimes mean that kitten gets taken away from the legitimate player? Yup.

Anet has already set the precedent of simply not incorporating things if they feel it can be used too much for griefing. Example: the removal of direct person to person trading. Example: the reduction in allowable, animated emotes and the reduction in the ability to perform an emote on a targeted individual.

Does that make it “right”? “Fair”? Nope.

Even though we can report people for harassing us, and even after being reprimanded (since most don’t get a perma-ban right off), you think that necessarily stops them? Sure, some. For others, only temporarily. It varies from person to person, but what do you expect Anet to do?

You want them to set up in game moderators? Sure, that works for a while….until a few of them let the power go to their head. Didn’t some other game have issues with exactly this?

Shift staff from development into support to handle reports faster?

Develop a program to analyze all behavior and auto-ban people that meet some criteria? Remember how well that worked for bots? Not so well, and it would shift developers off other content.

Or flag accounts for review, potentially creating a back log of work for existing personnel?

There is no ‘easy’ solution.

Simply allow 1 duel request, and if denied, thats a 15-30 minute wait time before being able to do it again, as well as a no-auto dueling option in option, that is set off by default. Then players who want it will have to go into options and enable it themselves.

Right,

So using your logic because it happened twice in a different game, we should ban free form combat in cities, emotes and whatever else. You might find it annoying but I find it griefing.

/ Do you see were I am going with this? With this self-imprecating victim mentality you can argue that anything that is just a nuisance to others, is griefing to you. Especially when you connect it to different things like walking around harassing people, kill stealing (not even possible in this game).

I think it’s fine they add a no-duel request options, but to use it as argument to not have it in at all, based on the criteria of what happened in other games. It too has happened to me in WoW, but it never happened to me in the majority of MMOs that I have played, and I dont really think it’s the duel features fault. Just bad people. At any tool can be basically be argued that it’s a tool for griefing and annoyances.

Don’t add new LFG tools, because I was once spammed and harrased in WoW by someone who kept inviting me, and then he followed me. Or don’t add the abillity to add guild invites due to the same thing.

It’s just a silly argument, really.

So…. just because I only cite 2 incidents (even though I stated it was two of many) it only happened twice. Check. How about all the other incidents cited by other players in the numerous other posts on this exact same topic.

That’s right. You don’t see them, therefore they don’t exist. That’s what’s “silly.” Feel free to keep cherry picking though. It’s not helping your argument at all.

Im not cherry picking, but you are still using straw man here. That doesn’t say anything against the potentially countless of people who enjoy dueling in other games. It might be less than 0,0001% who had these bad experiences.

You might say you have had a lot more than two, and I am not calling you a liar, but I dont personally believe that this stuff happens often. I think you are exxagerating, just like I think you are exxaggerating about having to turn off map chat because of costume brawl.

you’ are being unfair, I think. dueling dont make people do bad things, neither do costume brawl. they don’t incite or raul bad behavior. it’s just an old stigma against anyone who likes pvp.

If anything, dueling is a form of competition (because of no death, and no loss/respawn) that can be described as pvp for people who dont like pvp. its not balanced for it, there is no winner, it doesnt require partitipation. it’s a completely different experience than anything else they could make in spvp.

This game never was, and never will be balanced for 1vs1. Thats the entire point. Just like WvW is inherently unbalanced, the fun stems from empowering the players even though its a mish mash of pvp and pve events in one big zone.

From the GW2 Beta Event Jon Petersen confirmed they want to add open world dueling. From the chatlog:

Now with mega server technology, open world dueling is my most requested feature!

In world dueling, not open world dueling. An arena type setting would cover this nicely without going against the cooperative world concept.

Read it again. He means open world by “in world”. The first thing he talks about is “empty servers, pvp ones”, thats the system that currently exist. cheers:)

Right. He’s talking about the sPvP servers that people can use (and now there are private servers which work even better). In world can be as simple as going to Southsun to a Consortium run dueling arena (as opposed as having to leave the world to go to the Mists).

But Southsun is part of the open world. It’s an open world map.

Please don’t waste the time on this devs. I know some people want this, but there are so many things in the game that actually need fixing/attention long before something else is added that, I believe, a small percentage of people want. We already have pvp areas that are great for fighting each other.

And dueling is one of those important things. Which a large majority want.

You still have provided no proof that a “large majority” want dueling.

Please provide the following:
-The number of people who play Guild Wars 2
-the number of people who want dueling

Along with citation for both sources of information.

There is no way for anyone to confirm this either way, but it is without a doubt one of the most debated subjects on this forum, and if you search you can see many very long threads of discussions that have many different people asking it. But even if you counted all of these people it would not even be 10% of all the people inside the game itself. There frankly is no way to say for sure.

No dueling in PVE zones. No thanks. Never.

You want to duel? Go to PvP arenas and duel your heart out. That is what that area is for.

If you don’t like the way dueling works in PvP arenas, then request changes to that part of the game. Don’t bring that crap to PVE.

I think a lot of us love the idea of costume brawl, but the hacked clipping animations and skill lag, keeps it from being very consistent. What people like about duels despite the balance is that it’s practice, not real PvP. You don’t go to a lobby, you don’t have to change anything. Nobody dies. you simply fight down to the last hitpoint.

So, in that aspect it’s also nice for rp guilds and guilds doing guild initiations, and simply adds another way to interacte with players. It feels limiting that you can’t interacte in the main world. for example in my guild we do quaggan guild races, and all sorts of things. So for us, having the tools to play meaningfully with each other is much better.

the sPvP area is real pvp and doesnt fit this. people want to field test their trats, and stats on others, and not die. it removes the seriousness of real sPvP.

I agree that pvp and pve should be seperate, but I don’t think duels are real pvp. Its not more pvp than costume brawl is. nobody dies, there is no win or loss. you simply fight to 1 hp.
