Are Guardians the only class that don’t have issues with condi?

I suppose many classes don’t have Contemplation of Purity’s full cleanse, (x2)Smite Condition, (x2)F2 AoE cleanses, on their skill bar.

Other classes may be able to cleanse themselves well in a 1v1 but they can’t hold their own for very long in a team fight vs Reaper/War/Mes/Ele/Rev comp.

How do I counter a perma-evade thief?

Their staff, perma evade, cheese build is basically a 1v1 nightmare for most melee centric classes. I recommend simply, not fighting them 1v1 If you can’t sustain long enough to get a +1 from your team. They typically can’t do well in a team setting so you may need to change your map rotational strategy so you don’t get caught in a long 1v1 fight against them if you die easily.

My problem with DH

in PvP

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

My problem with DH:
Their traps cover the entire cap point.

You need to stay in the cap point to prevent them from decapping, but at the same time you can’t stand in it because you’ll die from traps.

A non issue in the competitive scene but OP has a point.

How do you limit the newb faceroll DH builds while also keeping or improving the DH viability in the competitive scene?

Stronger, smaller traps (that are more visible, like everyone else’s) on a longer cooldown.

DH’s can drop traps waaaaay too frequently for how powerful/large they are, but if they were small enough they didn’t cover an entire point (plus extra area) on a longer cooldown but almost-certain death if you DID trigger it it would add additional dynamic to the class beyond “sit in center of point and crap out traps as fast as you can hit the button”. Higher potential ceiling but a steeper skill curve, and maybe not as deadly against bad players in unranked (who would have at least a slight chance of not tripping all of them instantly).

And an easy counter to DH’s even in the mid-ranks of league is ranged. Their pull is on a long enough cooldown even a base Rev with a hammer can down them (provided equal skill) without getting in the traps, and they’re one of the weakest at ranged combat.

But you didn’t answer the second part of the question, how do you nerf DH in lower tiers and still make viable in the higher league tiers?

You’re straight up asking for a DH nerf but that’s eons away from what the class really needs.

Suggestion: Priority for condition-clearing

in PvP

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

Thing is, your suggestion will hurt Wars/Necs/Mesmers in the competitive scene a whole lot more while just slightly helping soloQ players.

I’ve seen Abjured all huddle to the Ele’s water cleanse every time it comes up like they’re all a flock of birds thinking as one. I’ve seen soloQ players take every condition to the face instead of pulling back to me for an F2 AoE cleanse (cause I watch conditions that way) and they complain about their 3 cleansing abilities not doing anything in a team fight :/

This priority list would be better utilized on boon stripping skills, not condi cleansing. I say if condi is an issue, look into condi applications that’s covering all the Burst conditions classes have.

An Objective Look at Ranked Matchmaking

Saiyan.1704

OW matchamaking post by their dev might be interesting to you guys:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/4p5a63/jeff_kaplan_has_addressed_matchmaking/

Thanks for that post. I had no idea how OW calculated MMR. Only thing I had to go by was the pseudo code of GW2, the Dev talk about MMR and how both games were similiar in SoloQ. Goes to show OW matchmaking really is “smarter” than GW2.

In the long term (once OW tweaks mmr math) OW may actually succeed in the competitive soloQ Ranked scene without utilizing a Kill/Death Ratio or Resources in its algorithm, like how most FPS/Moba/Strategy games calculate individual skill.

The soloQ pugs will still suffer the random comp queues (300k+ players that needs to learn the game will do that) but matchmaking in the higher percentile is going to be 5x more accurate in doing what it’s suppose to do because the pvp game is lenient that way.

GW2’s Matchmaking
Needs to be more static and overall more smarter in comparison. Matchmaking needs something more “fixed” to pick players for a fair game. There’s too many intricate variables like class dailies in Ranked, build differences that matchmaking is blind to and class swapping that matchmaking still considers as the same MMR. It’s an MMO first and a PvP second, sure, but the PvP scene still has a long (positive) growth moving forward.

Scepter AA

Saiyan.1704

An autoattack like druid’s staff or ele lightining scepter would be nice. The problem lies in the description though “Fire a SLOW moving orb…”. Hopefully it gets looked at, or made an offhand which probably won’t happen.

That’s the whole purpose of the post,to ask the devs to make it so that scepter AA stops firing slow moving orb and starts firing proper fast ones! The description becomes a non issue if/when they do this request, because they can change it. LoL logic.

I personally rather it do splash damages in a 250 radius or so.

But tbh if they start altering Weapon skills, an item set they have never touched, they’ll have to change other classes weapon abilities too.

Not true. Off the top of my head, just somewhat recently they reworked the warrior’s entire rifle.

Yeah they did…I think the new rifle for warrior is about 4 months old now….not sure…all I know for sure is that it was reworked after HoT released, so tweaking the AA of a good cc weapon shouldn’t be the end of the world.

Oh dang I didn’t know that! Guess they were in such a bad state that wars got a “bye”…

An Objective Look at Ranked Matchmaking

Saiyan.1704

Sorry, but you continue to display a lack of understanding.

  1. Picking a popular whine post from the forums does not in any way mean it’s accurate or correct.
  2. This is the first time OW has assigned rating to players. GW2 assigned initial ratings over 3 years ago. GW2 rating has stabilized years ago. OW needs a couple weeks.
  3. GW2 leagues are a progression system, not a rating system. They don’t accurately represent skill. Numerous posts have explained this already. OW is a rating system only. You can’t equate GW2 tiers with OW rating.
  4. OW has a system for determining player contribution on a team when adjusting rating. It should help to filter out the good players who are stuck with lesser teammates and get them boosted a bit to proper ratings. Ranked play has been out for about 3 days in OW. Anyone complaining now based on personal experience is clueless.
  5. In a team-based game, players who queue as a well-organized team more often should be ranked higher. However, the matchmaking in OW does account for groupings and tries to play you against similarly grouped enemy teams (less chance for a full team vs. full solo) and so far, it seems to be working a lot better than it does in GW2. That should allow good players who queue solo to climb as high as other good players who queue solo.

I knew and understand all of that. It’s not a perfect system and it’s new just like how gw2 pure mmr system was at first launch. What I disagree with is their system isn’t going to be all bells & whistles 3 weeks from now.

What I didn’t know was your #4 point. If it’s a system that actually calculates individual player skill then absolutely, it’ll be eons better than gw2’s rank system but if it’s another mmr calculation that “guesses” individual skill based on team wins and “guesses” that player’s mmr, then it’s no better than gw2’s pure mmr system at launch.

Do you know if it take kills/eliminations/deaths into account in its algorithm?

An Objective Look at Ranked Matchmaking

in PvP

Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704 the ANet fanboy spreading misinformation about things he doesn’t understand. He can’t even link the correct thread.

Yes OW ranked has some bugs – it’s been out for less than a week. The big one where KotH matches do not count enough is being fixed today. Player ratings are also very volatile right now. It takes time for any rating system to order millions of people when you know nothing about them at the start.

Outside of that, the rest is just ignorant people like you running their mouth.

  • The leaver system in place is by design. The principle used is that one person leaving can’t be used to take advantage of the system. Continually leaving ranked matches has a huge penalty associated with it (unlike GW2), to the point of being automatically banned from ranked play for the remainder of the season.
  • The outcome for coming back into a game during the grace period is likely a bug (haven’t seen a dev post yet).

In OW, your competitive rank is essentially percentile rank (1 to 100) based off your MMR vs. the MMR distribution of the population. My guess without having the data is that the initial distribution has most players in the 40-60 percentile range. Give it a few weeks for them to spread out – both up and down.

There is nothing in OW which forces a 50% win rate. That’s nonsense from idiots. Forums have a lot of those. Players do end up with a 50% win rate, but that’s because you’re they’ve reached their your proper rating and aren’t continually improving. The ones who are complaining likely think they’re better than they actually are.

You can drop the insults so we can have a reasonable debate here.

Everything I said was in reference to what the OW forums have stated and nothing more. Mmr needing to “settle” is the exact same thing Anet have said with their system. Considering not a single person from either game can carry a team, we’re both reliant on our team and comp. These aren’t blind arrogant assumptions here…

For simplicity sake lets say their bugs were worked out as they should be. OW’s Ranked system is only going to be slightly better than GW2 because the class system, by comparison, is more balanced. Now, here’s a few things why rank 1-30 = Amber Ruby, 30-50 = Ruby Diamond and why nobody except Consistent Teams will ever reach 55-100 or Legendary division.

The random soloQ experience is just like GW2.
You have players who don’t stand in Soldier 76 Heals, behind the defenses of a tank or out of zerg line of fire. People are spread out and not working as a team, an equivalent to the “1v1 experience” of gw2. Even better, players run out to die because the team is out rotated; team members respawning 1 by 1 without regrouping.

No doubt the rank 30-50 players or Ruby Diamond equivalent will work better as a team than the lower tier players but it’s going to 1) Take a while for players who legitimatly belong in that tier group to reach the Rank, not because mmr has to settle, but because they’re completely reliant on Matchmaking. And 2) They’ll never proceed any higher than that unless they’re on a team.

I play Overwatch more than GW2 now and think it’s a darn fun game so this isn’t fanboism… I’m merely explaining how similiar it is to GW2 and how OW is going to make the same MMR Rank system mistakes.

An Objective Look at Ranked Matchmaking

Saiyan.1704

Overwatch matchmaking as predicted.

They’re labeling it the “Worse Rank system ever” but don’t take my word for it, It’s all over the forums.

  • You don’t earn more in a 5v6 win than a 6v6 win, a bug apparently.
  • Leaving before the time limit on “an opponent left the game, you can leave in 30s” counts as a loss in Ranked regardless if you Rejoined the game immediately.
  • Multiple bugs in terms of point distributions.

But lets say they fix all the “bugs”. Matchmaking will still be at a 50% win rate in soloQ. Only difference is their personal Rank, similiar to GW2 Rank 80, they can prestige once rank 100 hit. (Something I wanted in gw2)

Rank points is based on a 1 to 100 system. Majority of people are losing points at a 50% win rate, eventually everyone will be ranked 1-10…

I bet they’ll change the league system to something similiar to what GW2 has in the following months, regardless of whether or not “bugs” are fixed.

The reasons condi is out of hand

in PvP

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

The real reason why condi seems out of hand is because of the insane condi coverages.

Reason burn guard is worthless is because we sacrifice sustains to have Warrior damage potential… we had the sustains prepatch back when stability & stunbreaks weren’t needed. We also didn’t have any condi coverages so we were actually balanced.

Reason Condi War is good is because they have a more 1v1 centered burst as oppose to guard’s aoe, coupled with having condi coverages like bleeds that also does huge damage, coupled with the tools they have to survive in a team setting to rinse & repeat.

Reason Condi Necros are good, they’re the new burn guardian, able to deliver lots of AoE burst condis team wide which also complements Warriors greatly.

Oh your 3 cleanse ability cleared Cripple, Poison & Vulnerability? You’re still taking 3k ticks of Burns + Bleeds + Chill damages. Darn the luck…

Remove oneshot, compensate

in Guardian

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

spoiler: literally every single decent/half good guardian do not use the elite trap.

I’ve seen 90% of diamond guardians run elite traps. They sit on a point and use traps, mostly avoid condi reapers and that’s it. Actually, the ones that use the meditation elite are usually the ones that are the easiest to kill, since they have very little counter-pressure to enemies, as the elite trap cc is one of the best thing trapper has to offer.

I’m sorry but this accusation of yours may be true in lower tier pvp but far from truth when it comes to competitive play.

Those Guardians grinded their way to Diamond, praying they’ll get a good team that can win over 1 or 2 nodes while they try “camping”.. something that Rangers do twice better in.

Necros don’t counter DH.. can out play us, sure, but definitely a 50/50 match for us. Those who can’t beat them are probably trap Guards.

Lastly, Trap Elite is not at all “counter pressure”. Counter pressure are instant burst skills like Smite Condition+ToF+Hydromancy, used immediately when some one pressures us. Maw has a cast time, making it very inefficient against 2 or more classes who focus burst+cc. Thieves alone can stun you from 100-0 health if you have no cds making Maw, again, an inefficient skill to use.

WHY MATCHMAKING IS BROKEN

in PvP

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

You’re right the game has no way to calculate individual skill. That was realized during all the beta ladders during Fall2015 leading up to HoT 2016.

You’re also right in terms of being on a consistent team. That would yield a more accurate mmr, resulting in more fair matches. But as you said it’s unrealistic for any game to do because casuals, specifically soloQ players, will always be the minority.

Why your point of view is an over-exaggeration of matchmaking
I know you’re making a point but from just your background video I could see how you’ve gotten only as far as Ruby or Diamond. Let me explain without trying to sound like an insult.

No doubt MM will place you on an unfavorable team and no doubt you’ll likely get placed on that team back to back like some kind of bad dream. That said your overall sucess rate in Leagues will be governed by rotations, class type, and build type. Neither of which matchmaking knows how to accommodate in its system. See my quote back in Nov 2015 or my thread back in December explainimg the need of a smarter matchmaking system. Because of this, it requires hundreds of games for mmr to be anywhere near accurate

So that said, we have to be smarter than matchmaking. Rangers are a heavy team dependant class because they do best on side nodes rather than mid fights. They can offer good focus target bursts but it’s only worth wild if they have that +1 cc burst class like Rev or Thief. Rangers complementary heal/cleanses/blinds is not good enough to “carry” in a team fight like Ele. You have Search & Rescue but thats a hit or miss.

TR;DR
We’re all ever more reliant on our rotations, some more than others because of class type but judging from the video, you made a few poor decisions. A lot of players are at matchmakings mercy; we’ve all been there but many have gotten through by working the map and playing efficiently.

  • There is no downward “mmr hell” spiral.
  • Friend players you don’t want to queue with.
  • /team chat to call targets, set targets yourself.
  • Be smarter than the bad matchmaking system.

appreciate the feedback but.. ( ok sry i havent actually read the quote from 2015 you posted lol ) what are you trying to say? the mmr spiral doesnt exist? yes it does… i explained it perfectly in the video. sure it might take more matches for that to happen but you get the idea. over a long period of time this could happen. also the "being smarter than matchmaking " tips you listed are more of a common practice that nearly everyone uses..

You’ve stated with “MMR spiral” is that; paraphrasing, your mmr will continue to lower to the point where matchmaking will deliberately place you on the worse team, essentially creating an “mmr hell” for the player.

Lets say a player gets extremely unlucky and loses 7 games straight. His 8th game is not going to be worse than any of his previous 7 games simply because he’s on a losing streak. He has just as good of a chance to be the highest mmr player on the next team than being lowest mmr player. Likewise, he also has the same chance to be placed on a higher team mmr averaged than the other.

The only thing that changes is the player pool when a player enters a new 15 pip +/- range. If you lower your pip range, you’ll no doubt play with lesser skilled players but the mmr algorithm & matchmaking that sets the teams up will always remain the same. Mmr is so inaccurate that the number difference between two individual players are barely noticeable. OR they’re very different, it’s why you’re getting so many blowouts. It’s why Anet (the player base) wanted a Division system because the skill difference of Diamond players over Amber players is like night and day compared to a pure mmr system.

It’s entirely Anet’s fault for not making a smarter matchmaking algorithm (what my links were referring to.) if they did, mmr would be more accurate because games would be more balanced in the long run (80+ games).

This patch is the best one so far.
Just do the statistics and there is nothing to complain.

In terms of class balancing & build diversity, it’s not. If they only implemented the class stacking rule a year ago things would be much, much, different than now. Instead, several items were nerfed/changed/removed because of the class stacking unbalances that the game had.

On a personal note, I think DH are in a better spot than Rangers were back when they weren’t meta. We may have swapped places but DH is very manageable in SoloQ.

What keeps you from watching pvp on twitch?

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

MMO PvP are all boring to watch because of the genre. You would have to simplify it like a Moba, CSGO or Overwatch for it to look entertaining. Heck, I saw Overwatch on Twitch for the first time and even though I haven’t played it, it was entertaining to watch.

It’s not clear what the 12+ skills do on a given class and when they’re used.
It’s not clear how something failed or succeeded because of passive; basically additional abilities people can’t see.

Anet would have to reinvent the genre in GW3 for the game to be anywhere near the top Esports games. But hey, that was never their goal from the get go :P

WoW PvP is substantially more complex than GW2 PvP and people STILL prefer to watch it, even though it’s gone to the kittenter. The problem isn’t complexity.

Conquest ia definitely more complex than WoW’s BGs & 2v2/3v3/5v5 arenas. Only reason WoW is showing more PvP action on twitch is because there’s more to do, there’s no standing around (doing nothing for 10m in HotM) and the player pool is insane. If the game was popular with a player base as big as WoW than gw2 would see more views on twitch.

Both games are boring to watch.

@Ross Biddle (in direct reply to your post and more generally on topic)

While I don’t disagree with your sentiments, you miss the main issue.

That issue is this; ANET set out a prize which was to be available to “everyone.” The league and achievement structure has been set up in a way that contradicts that.

Sure, one needs to meet the requirements. However, ANET promoted a prize as available to all. Therefore, the company has an obligation to make the requirements such that all can get it.

The below quote answers this “question”.

PS: The official quote in question:
“The Ascension is designed to reward investment in PvP by any player and will require more than one season to complete. You don’t need to be the most skilled player to earn it, but highly skilled players will find that they can progress through the Path of the Ascension faster.”

Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-pvp-league-begins-on-december-1/

From Anet’s quote above, it sounds to me like everything is working as intended.

  • Dedicated players are grinding seasons/games to get the wings.
  • Elitests are reaching Legendary the quickest, receiving the rewards faster. Now we need more items to spend tickets on!

Not sure what people are having issues with but i’ll happily play on their account, hop on DH and reach Legendary. It’s not impossible to reach Legendary every season. The Division and rewards are well within reach…

No, no they aren’t. Imagine if 8 out of 10 games you were matched with people that either will not or can not play properly. They refuse to rotate, they lose every fight, they AFK after 5 min. This has been my experience for the last 2 weeks. I’m so jaded with PvP right now that I expect every single game to be a loss.

Matchmakimg obviously needs an improvement but the league system does not. The league system is working as intended.

Sorry for your misfortunes but I haven’t had matches like that. It’s more like 1 bad match every 3 games but matchmaking indeed has a sense of humor sometimes.

Now why shouldn’t those groups be treatend like normal groups? They are all already on a similar skill level and don’t use an TS and therefore are still just a bunch of randoms

I agree with everything except the last bit isn’t all too accurate. Sometimes players have waited days in queue so matchmaking trys to accommodate by pulling something together that may or may not be even as far as average mmr is concerned.

Mmr wouldnt be the same if 2, 3, or 4 players join up afterwards because their mmr all together is a team average. Losimg players would change the team average.

Anet would need to change how matchmaking allocated the next round to make the team have a reasonable mmr to choose players to add. Also if the team has full Ruby with 1 Diamond, all players are now considered Diamond. Matchmaking may have placed them on a team due to time allowance or a lucky match just came up.. If players stayed together, the wait time could be the same but now effecting those who just joined, unaware of a previous wait time and/or players may not be too happy with that higher division player on the team.

I personally think showing Divisions in the game should be removed.

Current Ranked System MUST be Replaced

Saiyan.1704

Sure, just don’t allow low-average MMR players to advance to legendary.

Actually that would help averave players, bevause that way they would just fight against average players as well and never fight against those with hifg MMR up to legendary

Oh and the system could be easily fixed by removing mmr – that way people eould really go into the divisions they belong and not an mmr/division mix (would work way better if ruby and diamond would be splited up in 4 divisions instead of two) that way the divisions would reflect the mmr on a grinding way (but i don’t like that solution, because it would just create a grinding mmr)

Yea having matchmaking solely based on Pip rather than MMR is a terrible idea for several reasons. I think OP has a point though. Have matchmaking pull from the whole playerbase pool rather than a limited 15 pip range where players likely just grinded to.

Higher divisions doesn’t necessarily translate to a higher mmr player. Having matchmaking pull from the entire pool means (in theory) less queue times & slightly better matches.

It’ll never be perfect – How matchmaking works as far as team placements needs to be improved. MM in general needs to be a smarter system.

. and being more efficient in 1v1 fights

I doubt this is true. Zerker ammy is great if you’re +1ing, and may help you down certain classes in 1v1 a bit faster, but against a decent opponent you have trouble with on marauder’s, zerker will only make it worse.

Not true vs certain classes. Dueled a good Rev numerous time on Mara but couldn’t get close to a win. Swap to zerks and won a few times. The Rev said Ken & Mes could beat him and immediately knew they used Zerks to do it.

Situational or not, I still feel Zerks is a duelist amulet but that’s pretty much all it has going for it.

Interesting builds gentlemen! Impressive win ratios too!

I highly doubt anyone on the losing team could 1v1 players on Red team efficiently.. no surprise if they’re unable to.

Red had the better team, being 1v1 savy had nothing to do with it. Trust me, i’m a DH and have been against comps where I couldn’t win a single 1v1 (because im a DH) but I carried the weight in team fights while also rotating well.

EDIT: There’s a HUGE skill cap range between Average and Esl Pro players. The game doesn’t know how to calculate, moderate or pin point this window range for Legendary division. Strategies differ on a team by team basis. A player would have to be good in many scenarios and right now, matchmaking is not very smart to help MMR do its job.

A couple key things here op,

1. You probably just introduced a whole new level of “MMR Hell” for players who are already struggling.

2. You essentially killed the casual base of the game aka 70% of the pvp population because these players wont reach past Sapphire.

3. The above will cause a domino effect, resulting in poor matchmaking, higher forum complaints from casuals, etc.

Your Legendary Build
Zerkers or Marauders
Win Percentage? Optional

There’s quite a handful of Guardians that actually use Berserkers in TPvP such as Ken and Mes so i’m curious, how many of us Guards use Zerks over Mara? Moreover, what build got you to Legendary? I’ll start first.

Still using my Hambow build
Hammer/Bow
Mara + Packs
Purification – ToF/Smite/Cop

Reached Diamond with 69% but finished in Legendary as 59%. Majority soloQ with some occasional teamQ on the side.

My thoughts on Amulets.

Marauders
It offers higher sustains for a greater window of opportunity against bursty situations. You can survive a thief’s gank at around 8600 health (half health) that you can’t do with Zerkers. Cons: You’re not as efficient in 1v1 as it’s not a duelist build.

Zerkers
Weapon variants: Sw/Focus for the needed blocks.
(important to note because hammer performs worse on Zerks, unless you play very well)

I feel with 10k health.. a thief’s 8k burst will basically 1 shot you in any +1 situation. The low health pool forces you to use your CDs very quickly, often burning through skills just to survive. Of course your trade is higher bursts and being more efficient in 1v1 fights but against any competent team who can focus Guards, (revs + thieves and/or rangers) I feel it’s simply not as efficient compared to Maras in the same situation.

There’s been some disagreement so I like to see how many Guardians differ, or agree, wth the above. Thoughts?

…While the other team gets scrappers and revs?

So maybe we have a chance at downing one of them next game

Last game it was truly pathetic. 1 ele 2 scrapper 1 war 1 rev

vs

my 2 awesome DHS, ele, rev and necro.. the mid fight was so 1 sided it wasn’t even funny. The DHs were simply punching bags the whole match….

Please anet….please?

(This is in diamond division, where people actually can dodge traps and are aware of their class skills and reflects )

You’re not Legendary yet?

Ya 2x Scrappers is a DH worse nightmare.
Actually, the perfect nightmare is 2x Scraps, Ele, Ranger, X

If I lost the initial mid fight I would have immediately taken sides with the necro. 2 scraps + Ele would be difficult for any team in foefire’s mid but matchmaking isn’t very fair in this particular case.

Please take sides to allow good feedback

Saiyan.1704

Well since you necro the thread guess i’ll answer your original question.

IMO it’s time for ANet to officially take sides in terms of pvp environment.
Thy are designing 99% for casuals and selling everything as competitive. Could you guys officially take sides to open path for serious feedback?

What’s Anet is trying to acomplish is pretty black and white, not sure what the confusion is. The game is 60% casual based and 40% competitive. League system is almost all casual based without it being too easy of a grind up. The competitive nature is the speed at reaching Legendary and/or having a higher w/l ratio. Any more competitive and the casuals would rage like they did in season 2.

Believe it or not but there’s indeed a skill factor in the game. That’s seen from all these nerf threads of skills from classes that don’t need nerfing.

A plethora of items needs fixing starting with certain class balances and matchmaking tweaks, but Anet isn’t sending mix signals as to whether or not they’re aiming for casuals or elite players. It’s obviously a balance of both worlds and there’ll always be more casuals in the game.

Gaurdian meditrapper typically i nice niche class as ya can do high dps use your utitlities/traps to stay alive and still dish it outnot to mention cc from your traps if your sloted for it. Bunker you soak damage, support your team and hold points . Also highly telegraphed(nerfed too hard imo )and most veteran players know your tells.
Warrior’s thanks to recent buffs very viable in condi mode and sometimes power good combo of tankiness and being able to dish it out . Things to note if you have no ele to clear your condis on your team and they have 3 condi necros and a mesmer on the other side you’ll just kill your teamates when it gets given back to yourside.

This is the only paragraph I needed to read. You’re not telling anyone here anything new and… for goodness sakes, paraphrase or clean up your paragraphs so it’s not such an eyesore! TL;DR rest.

If those reapers are any good and they have a ranger or ele along with an Engi… you likely wont win the team fights. If your team are made up of classes that can’t roam, you probably can’t out rotate them efficiently too.

It’s one of many imbalanced compositions that matchmaking does not take into account.

70% win-rate in season 3 only playing Guardian. Class is just fine; there’s just honestly a lot of less skilled people who got used to the DH being OP.

Though I agree that DH is fine when soloqing to Legendary, they’re not fine in the competitive scene against a comp that uses focus bursts and cc. Granted, any class can get focused burst + cc’d but it only takes 1 lucky cc to intertupt our virtues, obliterating our sustains.

They can’t hold points. A scrapper warrior and necros will eat them alive. Even thif now is 50 50.

In terms of 1v1, Rangers & Engi wipes the floor on Guards. Sometimes good Wars & Thieves but that’s the same with other classes.

We’re not point holders, our strength lies in team fights. The reason we’re not meta is because we get caught with our pants down with little effort… Virtues getting interrupted, Purification not going off fast enough, & reliant on our unreliable passive stability to help vs a burst scenario like Thieves 10s stunlocking abilities. It’s ridiculous..

We’re not nearly as bad as you think but you’re right, the majority of guards you fight are not very good.

I wouldn’t do a reset at any place & time. I would just give Legendaries the offer to Prestige back to Amber with their full mmr, if they choose. There’s a few questions than needs addressing but I feel it would overall be healthy for the game.

Resetting mmr, yay or nay?
I think your initial mmr should stay static all the way. If it resets then it kind of defeats the purpose. Now, it’s whether Anet wants players to reset mmr each season but I highly doubt they’ll erase 3 season’s worth of data… assuming the data is at all useful when meta changes.

Emblem changes, new rewards, higher pay out
Other than bragging rights, the rewards should double but the +1 pip loss streak should be removed in compensation. Yay, nay?

I’d like a new emblem with fire (blue fire because, Guardian) around it but ya know, a bae can dream.

How to fix aegis

in Guardian

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

Anet could really make Aegis shine by upgrading its traitlines.

  • 50% higher retal damages when Aegis breaks when using Radiant Retaliation (lasting 3s and just effecting self)
  • Reduce spirit weapon cd or signet cds when an Aegis blocks.
  • Gain protection when recieving Aegis while already having Aegis.
  • etc. etc.

Though we’re not dependamt on Aegis like how other classes are dependant on Regen, Prot, and Resistance, I rather fix the core issue on Guardian first than suggest a QoL fix :)

An Objective Look at Ranked Matchmaking

in PvP

Posted by: Saiyan.1704

Saiyan.1704

@Saiyan.1704

The “end lose streak” pip was in for season 2.

Lol Population has a lot to do with matchmaking. If the population falls below a critical threshold, then it has to either wait longer to find matches or expand the skill difference when looking for matches.

Population has been at an all time high during the beta Stronghold release (when everyone joined 1 gamemode). Also the condi patch and post HoT patch brought on a plethera of players. A “critically low” population is not the reason why matchmaking sucks.

And part of skill is being able to work as a team. Players who can work as a team expect to be matched with other players who can work as a team.

This is only accurate after 200+ games or so… if that. Then theres a contradiction because the more games you have, higher the pip. Matchmaking looks within the pip range first and it doesn’t take class types into consideration. So there’s several variables that does all but accurately measure individual performance. Matchmaking should do what your saying, but that’s not always the case because it can’t. The leaderboard has to be grindy for the minority.

Overwatch doesn’t have ranked available yet (ETA end of June). Right now everyone is playing a rough equivalent of hot join (there’s some basic matching to keep newbies separate).

Ah that makes sense. Didn’t know Ranked was eventually coming. I guess consol players have DLC to look forward to?
