PvP Bunker Guard Build

I just made this build last night (this morning?)

Gives insane team heals, team support, and survivability . Also gives that 2-4k burst damage when needed when switching to hammer, which by the way is AOE 4k crit damage with hammer #2, #4 is 1.5k single crit damage, Staff #2 gives straight line effect 2k crit damage (assuming you blow up orb)

Self heals are phenominal.
Staff
Skill#2 Detonate: 1.5k heals
Skill#4 Empower 3xPulses: 324 heals per pulse, per person, including yourself. (Altruistic Healing Trait: 81 per boon)
Total: 4,860 after 3 pulses. End effect gives another 2,772 heals.

Virtues
VoR: 2,542
VoC: 1,134

Main Heal
Healing Breeze: 7,724 on self, 7745 heals Per Allie.

The shouts are self explanatory, each shout healing you for 162. In a group of 5, each of your shouts can offer a max of 810 self heals. Not including any Regen that your #7 gives or your shouts convert.

CONS:
All that said, your DPS is probably a quarter of what a medi build would be, being that you have poor sustain damage. Like any bunk build tho, you’re only as good as your team… in spvp I win more games with my DPS roam build =/

Revenge of the Fallen: 50% increase of damage when downed
*Protector’s impact: Create a symbol when you take fall damage
*Strength of the Fallen: Lose health slower while downed

Pretty much self explanatory… If some one actually use one of these, please tell me how they help you compared to the others in that tree line.

I see the other traits being used for one reason or another…whether it be for PvP or it being more beneficial in PvE.

For those saying Shattered Aegis is bad, i use it for it’s quicker ‘burst’ damage at times.
Shattered Aegis: (my stats) 297 damage when ever an aegis you apply gets removed.
I run hammer, so this counts for him too. Assuming I have aegis up and hammer, that’s 594 damage right away, then another 594 when I pop VoC virtue. But that 594 changes to 1485 if I apply it to 3 more people near me.

I’d certainly want a buff in traits (themes) that are under utilized or down right worthless.
Full Sigils
Full vulnerability/blind
Full Spirit’s (without any real condition damage…who would want you over a bunk, medi, etc.)

And does anyone else feel Wall of Reflect should have a trait with “reduce 10 seconds to 5 but become immune to conditions [or] conditions are halved.” when in the concecration…or something to that effect :P

You should WANT to spec to a skill in order to counter certain builds. I feel the skill itself is mainly used on bunk type classes instead of “oh, they have 2 ele’s and 2 mesmers, let me switch to this skill.”

I’ve never actually ran a shout build being it’s not my play style, but that’s pretty cool! Not to mention Absolute Resolution, removing 3 conditions on everyone.

You’re forgetting Elite skill Renewed Focus that makes you invulnerable… that’s basically another Shelter without heals unless you buff up your virtues.

If you’re a guardian that can’t survive “spiking”, then you definitely need to be in a different roll and remove your self from zerg fights.. I’m a condi dps myself, you will rarely see my head pop up in groups of 4v4’s, unless I know I can aoe a total of 8k dmg and retreat back to roam. OR the aftermath and start cleaning up the zerg group nom nom.

Hello and welcome new Guardian!!
The biggest advice I can give you is, have a theme! By that I mean decide to be “Dps”, “Bunking”, “Condition” or just straight up rocking “Signet” skills because you like the color yellow, stick with that build theme to see what that sweet spot is that makes you love it. It’s all about what you’re aiming for and if you like playing that type Guardian

I don’t know how many builds other classes have that’s actually viable in tpvp/1v1…but I’ve been dueling and tpvp for quite a long time now, and I’m always seeing interesting builds that actually work; with all weapons.
Builds in order of popularity:
Bunk Builds
Medi Builds
Medi/Bunk Hybrids
Condi Builds

Then you have things like pure “healer”/support shout builds that are seen more in wvw… All this, and the Guardian is still incredibly balanced and very efficient, in any roll played.

There are medi builds that utilizes the hammer fairly well, not to mention doing some bunking as well when they hit and knock people off point which is a Huge plus. I’d take this over “convert conditions to boons” skill unless you’re running a shout build or something..

But to the OP, the build you have is mainly team support, relying heavily on your team like others said. You can have a full medi build for roaming (not zerging too much) or set up a condi build even, depending on your playing style. Word of advice though, if you go medi or any dps build, do some 1v1 duels. The majority of the time you’ll be in a 1v1. You need to be able to hold your own 70% of the time. If not you’ll be changing strategies every single game.

Rethinking Your Builds.

Those of you who are complaining that other classes are op compared to the guardian, (war, mes, eng, etc…) should think about what the guardian does best compared to a thief, mesmer, or warrior. More importantly…think about what your focus is.
1: Holding nodes/bunking/team support
2: Grabbing home node/pressure at far/roaming (assuming you win 70% of your 1v1’s) knowing when to treb or grab hammer, etc.
Again, pretty much the emphasis of most classes, but the guardian Can roam and Can take on Most Builds 1v1.

If you can’t 1v1 a toon within 20s to 25s, then you shouldn’t be roaming. If you can’t draw out 10k damage in that amount of time, then you’re Definitely not a roamer. Need to have a strategy that consists of your build. If it takes longer than 20s to down some one… you should either 1:… be a better bunk/team support or 2:… … rethink your strat. In retrospective, start doing 1v1 duels and see how you fair vs certain classes, and builds, (notice…certain builds beat certain builds..)

I just want to lay this out there in terms of Team Speak or Vent:
If I can’t 1v1 some one at far, then I need to rethink my strategy. Period. Call for some one at your side. Take initiative in-spite a “commando” in your group calling the shots. He, and everyone else, wants you to say where you need help at or what you’re doing. However obvious, call incoming too… whether it be at home, middle, far or etc…just saying

Merciful Intervention/making DPS Guard viable

Like the above said, lack of disengage. What’s a guardian without the first into battle and the last out? What I would like to see, however, is maybe a Dagger or Bow that disengages us “dodge rolls” or “tele” away while doing half the damage as the scepter (but hits nearly every time I.e more consistent)
That would be interesting…

When we discovered we could have indefinite retaliation (buffed) anet nerfed the crap out of it. Simply put, if you would buff one trait, the rest of the build would be Op. Keep two guardians in one party in mind, giving other’s the buff as well.
This is why things are as “balanced” as they are… If not, certain things would just as be “op”.

More importantly, you know when they are likely to go stealth. If you’re running gs, binding blade gets stealth (and points where they are) pop judges intervention and like the above, use your symbols and keep pressure.
The second they are unstealthed you should be on them and applying pressure. I’ve seen a pistol thief beat a s/d thief simply because they applied more pressure and more sustainable damage than the other.

This was in the mists so, unlikely. If it was -condition duration, instead of 20 seconds it would have been 15s or whatever, not completely removing a full 11s burn.

Purging Flames
Burning (8 3/4s)

Judge’s Intervention
Burning (5 1/4s)

Virtue of Justice
Burning (7s)

I get a total of 20 seconds on a dummy which is about right… but when I’m dueling my burn removes at around 11s. I saw it happened when I was trolling/testing it on a warrior. I went on spectate mode and saw that he had no passive condition removal skills and his traits looked fine…. same thing happened when I was dueling a mesmer in a previous game. It was like, the utmost bottom burn stack ended, so did the top stack, which isn’t suppose to happen?

Actually, condition build is very viable. I sometimes 1v2 peeps (assuming they don’t have an ounce of condition removal.)
If it was anything more and certain guardian zerker builds would be op. Not to mention every character uses the same gear (amulets, runes etc..) it’s all very balanced, really.

Idk about wvw… but for tpvp some of the top end builds are dps medi and condi.
Guardians typically Run mace/Focus to eat up burst attacks.
( I never see a guardian without one focus equipped unless they’re bunker heals or something.)

I run a spirit condition build w/ mace/focus and GS. I have Some issues with mesmers & glass theifs, that only appear to do that 2-4k eviscerate… then stealth for 10s. So annoying!
P.S
And yes.. spirit weapons are viable now. So many people keep asking me that.

Yes assuming you have your first free shield up from Virtue of Courage, (1), Enabling Virtue of Courage, (2) and your elite skill (3)
You also gain an aegis when you’re below half health from Valorous Defence (4)
And if you heal back up once that triggers, (5)
I use that combo all the time, unless of course I know I’m about to get zerged down. With all my blocks and aoe, it’s not uncommon to bring 3 people (especially melee) down to half health before I die.

10% damage didn’t seem like a lot to me in group fights, especially short fights. it’s really only a 30-50 damage increase on crit shots. The way I see it you’ll have 5 Aegis total doing 1230 for sure dmg, not including an increase in might. Definitely in zerg fights, V will deal this damage a whole lot quicker.

But that was just my personal opinion.

As for conditions removal on this build, you can alternate to Purging Flames or even change out you hammer… but you’ll be trading in damage for little condition mitigation.

Hello!
I came back after a year and a half of inactivity. Jumped on my guardian and started playing with the burn and Spirit Weapons. Here’s the build.

ZealShattered Aegis, Spirit-Weapon Mastery, Amplified Wrath
RadianceShimmering Defence, A Fire Inside
ValorDefender’s Flame
VirtuesImproved Spirit-Weapon Duration

Main: Greatsword
Secondary: Sceptor, Focus
Sigil of earth / Sigil of Geomancy (Both sets)
Switching weapon gives Bleed(3): 280 dmg per tick

Rune of Balthazar / Rampager Amulet

Burn Damage Uptime
Spirit-Sword Damage Per Hit:
Burn Damage: 2 seconds = 1550 (2 ticks)
Regular Damage: 521

Spirit Weapon Hammer:
Attacks 3x every 6 seconds: 4,650 (6 ticks)
Regular Damage 174

Keeping DoT uptime isn’t an issue at all. Because of Defender’s Flame, Aegis(3x), Shelter (main heal and causes aoe burn when finish) and Shield of Wrath

Using Judge Intervention for coming back up immediately if stunned, downed, etc and needing to come up close to switch weapon for bleeds and Whirl Wrath

Everything else is pretty much straight forward. The biggest Con would probably be the swords up-time but they’re usually up in dire situations. Some one in game said spirit wielders are one of the best in game for 1v1 but I can’t vouch for that.

I wish more was given ingame about these sigils and their internal cool downs conflicting with runes and each another. Makes me wonder if a 5% increased damage sigil or any other % sigil are worth it in conjunction of the runes I already have…. it’s all so confusing and annoying. But thanks everyone for clearing that up.

Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Air share the same ICD and only one of each can proc at a time. So I chose Sigil of Fire for its aoe. The reason why I have two Sigil of Fires is because If one 30% chance to proc on crit fails on one weapon, then the next sigil will have a 30% chance to proc after that. I know the % doesn’t stack and they can’t proc at the same time, but I want that Increased chance of one procing every 5 seconds. At least that’s what I’m lead to believe after testing.

I’ll reapplied it with several sigils then reapplied Sigil of Battle but I still don’t get that 3xmight buff when I switch after Sigil of Fire procs. I can’t destroy the weapon because that’s the only weapon skin type that I have.

All of the Sigils on item switch doesn’t work when Sigil of superior Fire Procs. It’s frustrating to know that the Sigil I want to use will only work half the time.

I have two Sigil of Superior Fire in my primary weapon set and I have Sigil of Superior Battle + Sigil of Superior Earth in my secondary weapon set.

When Sigil of Fire procs and I change to secondary weapon set, neither sigils in that set work. I don’t gain mightx3 for 20 seconds when I switch right after Sigil of Superior Fire procs in my primary weapon set. Is it because both or all sigs share Sigil of Fire’s 5second cooldown? Is this working as intended?

This is a silly topic. Teams win tournaments by teamwork, not by how many bunker/tanks they have. The way I see it, a bunker gained is dps lost.

Not two different down states in one tournament but a down state that isn’t broken in big group battles.

The down state is great but as far as I’m concerned the rally is broken. No one should get downed and rally with 50% health three times in 5 seconds because some one is constantly dying. It’s “demoralizing”.

Downed State Pros:
Brings further strategy, balance and team work to the game. Should I stomp him or leave him? Down state emphasizes more team work; concentrating more on my teammates health bar and not just my enemy’s.

Downed State Cons:
Downed then instant rally to half health. There should be a down penalty of some sort, to give me a chance to down the other player before having to fight the same person with half health again, making the battle already lost. Or perhaps rally at 20% health with all cd’s blown.

Thesis:
Not one person should ever be able to take on two people alone unless those two people are inexperienced. Period. Don’t get mad at the mechanic because you had to kill him three times. Switch targets. Change strategy or blame that player next to you for not doing his job.
