Meditation guardians are good at duels, and bad at everything else. Bunker guards are no longer needed in PvP teamplay, as the lastest tournament showed.

My main was a guardian, but I don’t play Him since May and I wouln’t touch Him for PvP even with a ten feet pole. You seriously think that the guards need a nerf? Meh, whatever, I’m okay with that.

The latest tournament showed that bunk guardians could still hold a place in top tier teams. The map they lost to proved that (inspite that 3 node pull!!) Abjured’s team composition had incredible rotations. They needed to have good rotations against a team with bunk classes. Everyone struggles with rotations, it’s why bunk classes are easier to play, less rotation involved.

Everyone in that tournament played with classes they liked best, not because their build were the most OP in game. Guardian’s are still very much solid bunk classes and useful in any top tier tournaments.

My Engi teamate has very little condi cleanses.
Using torch was situational at the time.

My perma build is still 20606 with Supreme Justice + Permeating Wrath. That’s constant AOE burn. Cleaving almost always supercedes stomps.

Rune of krait is still my rune of choice for the huge burst damage it can offer. With my current proc rate, burns are going to be applied instantly in zergs. I’ve tried both runes and Krait is the clear winner. Also Bal’s burn on heal is very dodgeable.

also PF is great skill with lower cd then the cop also it can cleanse more conditions in 6 sec if you enter and exit the radios and also proc burning

I absolutely need a stun removal and recovery from knockdowns against engi’s and other classes. Not to mention going against any fear enabled necro. The 1960 heals is just a bonus. PF gives a nice fire shield but I use Symbol of Wrath and Leap instead for the near perma retaliation duration.

I apologize for playing without using Supreme Justice & Permeating Wrath. But I assure you the huge amounts of aoe procs are constant and Very noticeable! I’ll make another video for that build only.

Build in video: 20606
Reason; Team cleanses + Higher proc burn.
Offers near perma retaliation & perma burn.
Weak against range/kiting.

61601 (and its equivalent builds) isn’t as effective in zerg scenarios, due to the lower proc rate (besides JI, 1 person gets the burn). That said, the build is still more superior in 1v1 or 2v2 scenarios and node defending. Much better than zerk medi hands down, in that aspect.

Hybrid/Condi Zerk Medi Comparison
Video Time 1:17 Example of perma burn/burn proc rates. Regardless of cleanse, see how often the burn is reapplied.

Video Time 2:03 Example of trying to survive while having low health while other CD’s are down. Equivalent to Medi Zerk having his surprise burst on cd; or not being able to burst due to trying to surviving. Condi is more rewarding in that aspect.

Video Time 3:06 Example of being CC’d yet still causing (aoe) damage. (Ignore the crappy TS3 talk.. I suck at video editing.)

Video Time 5:52 Example against dodging classes and negating their attacks while doing damage. All honesty, I think the thief thought I was zerk dps… he wasn’t that good but still offers a good example of deliberately blocking big attacks & causing damage, even when you can’t hit a target.

Video Time 6:19+ Example of huge zerg scenarios. All honesty Supreme Justice + Permeating Wrath (global aoe burns) would have been 2x more effective. Regardless of losing Absolute Resolution, I would have done 3x more damage in zergs.
It’s the build I’m currently using accross the board, since I like it so much.

Personally, I think the perception of an over-emphasis on effort is caused by the false start. I could be wrong though, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

When the leaderboards were first visible the guy was ahead by 20-30 points or so with a win rate of about 60%+. Once he hit 120-130 his win rate dropped to around 40%. He now has a consistent win rate of 43-47% range.

For a user who is constantly pvping (hey more power to him) they will always maintain a steady point gain, in spite his occasional, or even often, loss. It’s not that he got a 25+ point lead because he was already playing nonstop. The point is, he shouldn’t be maintaining that lead for this long, given his current statistics.

Add -1 to each -1 for a stricter loss.

It doesn’t matter… There are Numerous bugs that’s been around since launch. For some reason Anet isn’t worried about it.

This may sound silly…but if we develop a petition to fix these bugs then it may actually go through. Would need an extensive list of ingame bugs, 800 worth of signed names, stick it in Anet’s face then maybe they’ll take care of it.

[Warrior/Guardian] Pros and Cons

I’m having a hard time deciding between the two.

I’m looking for a solo/small group roamer in WvWvW.

I want to deal sustained DPS and have strong CC/Imob.

I was think of Axe/Shield + Longbow for Warrior and Scepter/Focus + Greatsword for Guardian.

I need to have a ranged weapon on any class I play, I’m just weird like that :p

Is the Longbow any good ( Warrior )? I find its AA taking aaaages ( definitely not .75s ) and its damage seems mediocre unless it’s a full condi build which I do not want ( I prefer to rely on skills [zerker gear] and not conditions)

What are the pros and cons of playing a Guardian/Warrior. Which one do you think I would enjoy most?

Warrior is the class you want. Guardians have little to no range and “kiting” people is virtually non existent. With warrior you have enough peels, range and CC to troll and kite all day. Not only can a warrior have high amounts of health and kite, but they pack a punch with hammer/axe. Their versatility is often sought after in tpvp.
Did I mention they have CC?

Odds on winning and Rank improvement

But the community must like seeing less information so it got removed.

We removed seeing other player’s rank to prevent harassment and the shaming of new players.

We don’t show MMR for the same reason.

No need to show MMR honestly. Since the stats are already in the system, at the END of the match display “+1, -2” you had a 20-30% chance of winning….or something of that nature. So we can see if we went up or down and what our chances were. The % there to show, Ok your team played better than expected, good job; or you team could have played better.

Actually, this. Showing end game stats like the above would be nice. Especially getting rolled and discovering your odds of winning was 0% :P

Of course seeing 90% and losing is just as depressing…

That’s a 1/4 duration shy from another full burn tick. A small change of supreme justice wont break the guardian;
It won’t be a night and day difference considering whirl + other dmg hits = perma burn if not cleansed anyways.

It’s an increase of 25% to VoJ passive Only. That’s about an 1800-3k (depending on cleanses) more burn damage in a 30s fight. If you survive that long. Most burns stacks together when bursting with whirl and symbols and gets cleansed pretty quickly until a new proc appears. It’s the proc in between cleanses that counts most, further closing the sustain lost in between procs and cleanses.

I don’t see why this small change shouldn’t be added.

However that no longer (if it ever did) applies. Supreme Justice states “Virtue of Justice causes burning more frequently. When activating Virtue of Justice, the burn duration is increased.” In game, this doesn’t effect passive VoJ.

I strongly think VoJ’s passive should be considered “Activated” so it can receive Supreme Justice’s 25% duration buff.

To be optimistic, people who leave will receive dishonor giving them the max points loss. There’s still a chance to hit that 300-400 point margin. Maybe after X amount of games you’ll leave that bad pool of players.
Imo, the odds of winning should change dramatically for teams who are at a disadvantage when that happens. Maybe a team check at end of match; if team A’s players is greater then or less than team B… or something simple like that.

Then the “buffed” team would always win. Very frustrating for a ‘higher’ team who has a solid record, knowing they’re so good that they could face these “buffed” teams numerous times. If I was receiving a handicap I’d want a substantial bonus rewarded for it.

If this really needs to happen, have a type of losing-streak-buff for the individual players who loses 10 games in a row. Maybe a 10% increase in stats or quickness gained 5s when at 20%, etc.
A small, noticeable change yet game changing.

I rather receive partial credit for losing then no credit at all. I know I, myself, can give me team 50 more points by keeping a node, making stomps or rallying people. That can be a difference of a 400 point loss or 300 point loss. I want that to show on the leaderboards after X amount of games; instead of a solid 0 points that 1 point means a lot.
I think points earned should be increased further if odds of losing is greater, for people with little to no points.

Don’t nerf something that will have a global effect to other classes in the game. Don’t nerf an aspect of d/d Celes Ele when it would effect other builds of celes.
Focus on revising x/x/x/6/6 builds. Dagger’s might stacking abilities or sustaining, heal abilities. Or a mixture of the two. I personally think their overall healing should be reduced by 15-20% and they’ll be “ok”. Besides heavy condition classes are their counter.

Certain classes can add might.. it’s easily regulated. 20% reduction of celes ele’s stacking may help in 1v1 scenarios but in the end a bunk guard and warrior can always top them off…. imo.

i will try to upload 2 tpvp i did 1 hour ago playing with this build

its nice in some scenarios
manage to 1v2 versus 2 mesmer 4 times as they really want my home point (but not shatter one i guess)

i use sword when i dont need to guard a point so more in wvw
the mace block is for the burning proc and could save you if you low on health versus thief for example

scepter i use for also open world or the courtyard

krait rune is nice but i need the 25% speed and i tend to use the elite when needed and not when i need to condi enemies
try balthazar or flame legion. balthazar will give you more burning duration and 5 sec burning when use heal skill (4500 dmg). flame will give you also burning duration and 7% more dmg which is nice with carrion

You’re right Balthazar does more damage when traited for 33% more burn. As well as being able to pop Shelter twice in most fights, thats 10s worth of burning. The biggest downside is that it’s dodgeable compared to krait’s elite.

I’ll still use it though. I’ve been with krait for the longest time from my previous builds that I’ve completely ignored the other runes!

People rarely use the minimap to call points or strafe where to go. If nothing else just revise the minimap and it’s display options instead.
-Red arrow pointing. Shows where enemy is heading.
-Green arrow pointing. Shows where you should go.

The biggest communication I wish I had are the respawns. I like to know when an enemy gets stomped so I know how many I’m expecting at far. Or when I’m expecting it.
I’m going to start typing a 1 for each person I stomp…

When did dueling ruin the player base of a game? If that was a huge issue then opt out to accept a duel invitation, Similiar to /pvp in WoW.

I will never understand why certain features weren’t added, or still hasn’t been added, to this game.

The OP has missed the real issue with match making in GW2: lack of pvp population. If you were asked to run a sports league that was made up of only 4 teams: one of which is of pro caliber, one is ‘weekend warrior’ skill level, and 2 teams that have never ever played the sport before how would you go about setting up ‘good matches’ each week for the league?

Completely not true. You can have any type of league you’d like at any amount of population. If people are getting stomped, from a nonpremade group then it’s a l2p issue from you or your team. A premade group, then form a team. If you’re not all too skilled then why join rank and ruin your record anyways?
Besides like some one stated earlier 10k+ players is more than enough.

People think there’s an easy, medium, and hard mode in TPvP. There’s only one mode and it’s not easy. Don’t expect to get matched against players your own level when you enter an all-level-rank entry system. The matchmaking will do its best at keeping teams even but it’s Never a guarantee.

ive lost like 3 soloq ranked matches out of like 13 or so. and it doesnt have to be cooperative. hence why there is a soloq. i dont care for trying to find teams so i can dominate the other side. im a solo player and shouldnt be shunted because I choose to remain that way.

Solo Q was never competitive. Those who think it ever was are tricking themselves. If you want a better solo experience then play practice arenas or hot joins. They offer the same rewards.

What I do crave, however, is the ability to move up on the leaderboards with skill alone, Similiar to COD’s individual player leaderboard where it shows k/d ratio and other misc stats. Maybe a pure ffa deathmatch or 2v2 – 3v3 gamemodes.

I hope for an american guy, with a lot of experience in spvp (high Tier too) and with an objective judgment.

I think they mainly want a brief overview of post statistics, how many of the same threads, same posts; a report on what the majority of the players are talking about. Sometimes the Specialists would have to view large quantities of posts in a large thread; for example.

Being knowledgeable in that area means a person can decipher between which posts makes more sense; the important ones and which posts the community feel are important as a whole and remaining unbias at the same time.

Maybe even answering repetitive threads and posts, acting as a moderator and info man.

Game skill is hardly a requirement.

Vee Wee would nominate Vee Wee if Vee Wee didn’t have so many infractions. Vee Wee.

Courtyard timer too short

Most of the matches I’ve had on courtyard have had huge comebacks…until this 5 minute timer started. This timer basically says whoever wins the first fight wins the entire game.

This exactly. I’ve had numerous comebacks from being 200 or even 300 points behind. Now it’s based on who wipes first. Period. Where before it was a tuggle war of ruining the teams rotation. What’s the point of reducing the timer if you’re not implementing rounds?

It was manageable before but now the map and game mode is completely ruined…

I really want to know the reason as to why they did this.

i also use 6,0,6,0,2 with gs
combo:
ji+ sof mace + shield of w -> GS sow +bb+ww +smite + PF (gives might also and with leap fire aura= death to anyone who stand near you

I agree that mace can be a power weapon in group scenarios. If the mace’s block could burn everyone, I’d take it but currently it’s just 1 block/burn for 1 person. Even though shield damage is 1300+, I still have to be very near to hit and it hardly ever crits unless I replace doom with intelligence sigil.

Instead I use Sword for it’s mobility and auto attack (full auto is 1 burn proc compared to mace). And torch for obvious reasons

I use scepter/focus for that cc utility (which we desperately lack), and Smite #2 complements my F1 well. And using the range when trying not to take so much direct damage in zergs.

For aoe damage I’m missing from gs whirl or mace, I make up for rune of krait’s 4k elite.

That’s just my playing style you probably do better with Mace then I do!

That’s an issue for guardians in general except for bunker team support builds. And your build is identical to mine with the exception of Traveler’s and mace XD

Hotm additional add-ons ideas.

Since Heart of the Mists have all kinds of training items like golems, the Blue Lord, Beasts, etc..
Can you also add:

-A small colosseum out back that when entered, you and any other player will become hostile and able to fight.

-Have an NPC cast player specific rotations on you like a Thieve’s heartseeker, Mesmer’s shatter, Necro’s deathroud, an engi’s turrets, etc. that reflect real world scenarios. (preferably meta builds)

-A resetable, dps meter so you can compare one build’s damage to another (comparing condis to raw damage and able to see peek burst damage)

For starters if just these were in place, waiting for a long queue wouldn’t be so bad. The Hotm can become more of a “gym” for players looking to test themselves.

People will use it to weed other people out in damage specific rolls. It may add a drama that other mmo’s have faced. Likewise, they would use the dps meter to determine who they want over who they need; just because player A is a few points lower in dps than player B, doesn’t necessarily mean that player B is better…

I think a dps meter in a selected area of hotm would be nice. As well as a meter that measured your toughness – vitality – survival rate in a given scenario or attack (a thieves 6k heartseeker for example)

A high dps shouldn’t govern anything, instead used as a comparison tool for that user only; to compare his current build’s damage to his last build’s damage.

I’m not sure why you took a piece of my post and answered it, when you read the entire post it was a suggestion on what kind of vid you should make…

Which there still isn’t one…

You said yourself that nobody should 1v2 and if they do then they’re bad. My point was that this happens often in solo and team pvp. Previous posts have vouched so I wasn’t going to record these instances. If you want a montage of this it can be arranged.

As for the other things I’ve said, if you want a video of me dueling in custom and tpvp then I can make a separate video of these as well. Like others have stated, the dueling aspect of this build isn’t being question. I felt I answered your questions (apparently rhetorical) as for why my condi was better, without a video because I didn’t think one was necessary for what I explained.

It’s the overall performance of condi build vs med zerks that I’m trying to capture in a solid – tpvp scenarios at the moment.
The main issue for me is not only finding a solid team to be on, but also recording a match where we are actually facing a high tier team and not just winning (or losing) by 300 points.

I have several videos playing mediocre players in tpvp that I can create a montage of if you want to see that instead.

To compare both builds and have as little bias as possible I’d like to have a side by side video of medi zerk guard and a condi guard performances in pvp. I’m not very knowledgeable in video editing but I’m sure it can’t be too difficult.

This is entirely the issue right now.

You should be placed into a bracket at the start of a season based on your MMR, and your ladder points in that bracket based on your activity. This is how other online competitive games do it.

For example in SC2 by MMR:
Bronze – bottom 10% of players
Silver – next 35% (10-45)
Gold – next 35% (45-80)
Platinum – next 15% (80-95)
Diamond – next 5% (95-99)
Master and GM – top 1%

This way, you won’t see a ‘meh’ MMR player in the top 25 of all the LB due to sheer activity. They’d be top in their lower MMR bracket, and the best by MMR would still be visible in the high brackets.

People will be rewarded for skill and improvement by placing in higher brackets as new seasons come and go, and rewarded by participation by winning their bracket. Could even have an end of season reward structure that better rewards the higher brackets. This encourages everyone to play, because even the lower skilled players have something to strive for in winning the lower end brackets, rather than being rank 8000 or w/e it is now.

Sounds like there are about 50 players who should have insanely high MMRs who should only, EVER be allowed play each other in their teams.

That’s called “a bracket”.

Brackets would work if a" team" was considered as a single individual. Things wouldn’t be so complicated the way they are now. I like the rank system… for soloq.. but high rated teams should be able to register and play other high rated teams. Persons on a new team can average up their mmr to be part of that MMR bracket.

There’s a chance for an even Higher queue time when a team isn’t available for your division though… especially in the highest tier division.. not sure how that’s going to work. Unless there’s a pop up message to a team leader saying a certain team is on to queue, so you can then re-queue your team in Tpvp like regular. Other than that you’ll still be forced to play a team that’s a lower rank than you.

All honestly, it should have been this way from day one. 10 games determines your mmr. If you don’t beat a high rated team in a bracket, you move down a bracket. Otherwise move up. Until your MMR and Bracket/Rank is set.

The bragging will start about how good they are on the ladder when they just played a lot of games. You should just delete it and restart updating the old leaderboard. Just fix the decay . Don’t allow people to afk for months and then get rank 1 on the ladder.

And so many of us solo Q in ranked which gives premades a free win. At least in team Q there was way less solo Q’ers. Most people have an inflated win rate atm if they only played with premade.

Its not even about player skill its literally farming people at a disadvantage.

So winning 10-15 games straight and placing top ranked (old system) is more fair than actually having to grind to see your effective skill level? No more teams that play once a week at low peek times on the weekday against baddies… You’re practically forced to play more games against high rated teams to earn your max points per game.

A person with a higher average of points earned per game Should be ranked higher, than a person with a lower average rank points earned per game. How is this not more fair?

You see, it’s a team game. The top players are the best team players.

He is so good that he improved his teams performance the most. So he is the best GW2 player.

Put that “best player in the world” on an average team and that team is still an average team. The definition of “best player in the world” (or class) needs to be redefined in GW2… If used at all.

Condi build may sounds viable in 1v1, however I don’t think condi guard possessed any threat in a group fight. ( And yes, i have tried myriads ways of condi. build ) Condi build just sacrifice too many CC and support skills (SYG) in order to get the Burn, just don’t worth it imo.

Even Medi-guards don’t need to sacrifice SYG. It’s just a choice. If you want to play with SYG, you can.

And it’s hilarious that you think condi guard doesn’t pose a threat. 3 people tried to focus me in a fight the other day, the mesmer got downed by passive burning, the Warrior that tried to stomp me got downed and the Engineer who tried to rez the mesmer got downed and I got rallied off the mesmer only to stomp the other two so yea…. not effective at all.

Again I’ve yet to see anyone replicating such a feat with a zerk medi build. I’ve seen Hammer do extraordinarily amounts of aoe damage where it’s possible, but not nearly at the level and consistency that condi is. These types of 1v2’s comes every other day, if not more frequently so.

In what pvp game mode would you consider Hybrid Medi > Zerker Medi?

Because of these reasons I’m going to say condi is a better alternative to zerks in spvp due to being a) better node defender and b) more likely to 1v2 and 1v3 successfully.

PvP Duels and Node Defend
Condi is notorious for being successful in 1v1 matchup scenarious. Unless a roamer is completely covered in condi cleanses for some reason, condi guard will always be a better node defender. There are several instances of condi taking on Celes ele’s and tearing up bunk engi’s.

Main purpose of the thread is to compare condi build (my build, condi in general) to zerk medi guards, like the title says. Neither of which has much CC and support skills, we are no shout bunkers. Not talking about any x/x/x/6/x guards.

I’m curious as to which ele builds does or should kill condi guards, or guards in general. I’d like to duel anyone who has a solid ele, or can support that claim… or if you just want to duel that’s fine too. It can be completely anonymous, I don’t mean to call out anyone since it’s mainly for experience purposes.
-Preferably builds that you would bring to tpvp or top tier players would use.
-Not Diamond Skin since it’s pretty much a direct counter to my build without respecting to something else.

Against any top tier cc and condi team I would trait 00644 like the above. Absolute Resolution just rocks for you and your team. Especially since you can’t afford to have any sort of cc when switching to hammer.

When blown up with conditions and/or cc, Force of Will isn’t going to do much against stacks of condis. In zerg fights like your build is meant for, Absolute is pretty much needed for you And your team; other classes don’t have condi removal like you do.

Fiery wrath Would be better if you could keep your burn uptime. But since you can’t it’s really only useful in 1v1 type scenarios if that. Big crit damage gives the traits max potential but unless you’re running with a d/d ele or burn guard, half the time the trait is dormant when JI is on cd.
Otherwise yes it makes for a nicer burst but this isn’t much of a roamer build.

01661 is often favorable because of the overall might you offer and blinds it gives (don’t underestimate blinds!). With renewed focus you do this twice. Think of it as a 10s might instead of 5s, and you’re offering protection and might to your team in zerg scenarios. Which ever build you like better though.

Other than that it’s a fun and solid solo build for sure.

[PVP] Unkown Tricks for Medi Guard

Temple of the Silent Storm on hot side you can teleport through the wood floor. If needing to make an escape in that scenario. Troll under the floor towards mid for a line of sight gettaway. Either pretarget or Target Nearest Enemy button (made this middle mouse click) and use a teleport.
Or if you’re just waiting for a respawn and want to make a surprise whirl attack.

On Battle of Kyhlo map you can target one of the windows (or enemies) for a quick teleport up. At start of game you’ll get to mid first.

Use sword #2 to teleport keep’s middle instead of using justice intervention, if you prefer to save the skill.

As OP said GS #5 targets people in stealth, if in range. You can also pull stealth towards you to whirl.

Torch’s Cleansing Flame 5 doesn’t count as a projectile, it pierces through Sanctuary’s bubble and can’t be reflected.

Zealot’s Flame #4 can cause a total of 12s burns. 4s on initial start up. 4s when it ends. Throwing the flame causes a 4s burn. If you throw it right before it ends you will still get the 4s end tick.

3 conditions? You clearly haven’t tried condi guard extensively enough to be criticizing it. Let me draw it out for you in crayon:

Condition 1, Blindess: Flashing blade, VoJ, RoJ
Condition 2, Vulnerability: Upon blinding, enemy receives 3 stacks of vulnerability
Condition 3, Burning: If this needs further explaining…
Condition 4, Poison: Weapon swap, 60% uptime
Condition 5, Bleeding: Krait runes give this 100% uptime, 3 stack minimum
Condition 6, Torment: Krait rune elite activation; timing is everything.

6 conditions that stack in intensity, duration, and have nearly 100% uptime. Just because one guardian insists it doesn’t work, doesn’t mean that it won’t work. By the same token, although I say it works, maybe it won’t work for someone else. It all depends on play style, skill level, etc.

Condi guardian does work, and I beat 95% of the players I come across in 1v1s- especially zerker guardians. If you’re not winning with this comp, the problem’s with you, not the build.

Raze Guard

Of all those condis, only 4 do damage, and thats what I meant when I said 3 condis. kitten I know very well the condis Guardian has by deafault and I thought it wasn’t needed to mention those.
Lol you will apply torment every 72 and possibly waste a life saviour to do it, boy thats a good trade off for sure, and if you don’t waste it you don’t apply torment and then stay with the same 3 condis, burning every 24 secs, bleed and poison every 10, THIS if you hit them, thing that with Medi Guard with some CC is already hard with this will not be much easier. Not to mentions of those 3 Condis only bleed will stack significantly.

For sure if you have been killing ppl with that, they are plain out terrible or blind :/

You obviously don’t play condi guard so let me show you exactly how often we apply the most damaging condi in game.

My Build – can’t vouche for others
Zealot’s Flame alone gives 12 seconds of burn. 4s on activation. 4s towards it ending. 4s when you throw it. Yes it’s pretty easy to throw it before it ends but that’s a l2p issue for most.

4s judge’s intervention, every 36s. Usually used twice per fight since it’s popped early on for the most part.

Then you have the sword auto that hits for 5, causing burn.
Cleansing flame: Burn applied within 2 seconds on contacts.
Zealot’s Defense: Burn applied in half a second on contacts.

Then you have scepter which is self explanatory. Smite in conjunction with Ray of judgement and auto triggers burn quite frequently

Not to mention burn on hit from block. Aegis triggers burn 5 times in 1 match.
Shelter’s block can offer up to 5-7 seconds worth of burns depending on how many time’s you’re hit in that period.

Bleed and poison every 10s. You got that one right. It’s pretty much every instance since I time dodge rolls and switching while sword teleport and JI. Again a l2p issue for most. Rune of krait is indeed a huge hit or miss factor in the build but it offer’s incredible amounts of Burst damage people don’t expect.

Elite as a life savor..?
With this build you’re suppose to use elite when certain opponents health are at 30-40% like Ele’s and Warriors. Being able to burst them down past that threshold is essential or else they’ll come right back up with all their heals. How often do you get zerged down? I’ve never been caught in a zerg where my elite wasn’t up to absorb said damage.

When you say “Guards apply burns every 24s” I have no idea wtf you’re talking about.

Having used both forms of the guard, I will say the hybrid guard is far more rewarding than meta medi guard (say that 3 times fast). If you time your blinds and burns correctly it shreds through most meta builds. That said, it does have a few hard builds it’ll come across. Thieves are no longer whack-a-mole as they generally are w standard meta medi, as they can cleanse before you do a large bulk of the damage and are not as squishy ( seemingly of course ). Engi is still a pain if they are camping a siege point. Warriors still have a LOT of HP, so it’s mostly winable ( The blinds go a long way ) but it will be a long fight.

I have found a camping Engi and bunker eles the only real struggle against this build. Otherwise, all other builds are consistently beatable as long as you time your blinds and blocks correctly. Granted none of the fights will be short. The trick is knowing when to do what. However, I might be so low in pvp that people just suck.

Saiyan IF I find some decent players I will help you with videos if you want. Though my build is a little different than yours.

What do yall want to see as far as in the video? 1v1’ing d/d ele’s in tpvp/duels? Overall success holding nodes at far/home? Or just going against top meta builds in general?

I’ll tell you right now that any users with 0 condition cleanse, like most thieves and rangers, will die instantly. Even meta condi rangers (if there’s meta condi rangers?) are easy. I’m not going to trouble myself posting any videos taking these classes out… or any videos of 1v2’s… unless I’m against an ele and a thief comes in and insta dies cause that’s just hilarious.

Crowd sourcing can often reap great insights.

If, for example, we could download an extract of the data for all the matches since the patch (without names, of course), perhaps those of us with analytical and software/database skills could find something in there that would be helpful in understanding what’s happening.

It would be a groundbreaking move to export the data in a CSV file or something.

You’re talking about the statistics of every single player in every single game they’ve been in and with who, which map is being chosen the most, the least, average que times, including large amounts of >random statistics here<.
Their are gigs and gigs of data that probably can’t be easily exported. Not only that but I don’t want people to look up my account’s pvp stat information for whatever the reason…

The majority of people I see on the forums say they are being crushed regularly.

How can the majority be getting stomped? There have to be an equal amount of stompers.

I have always been sort of “in the middle” as a player. But in this new testing phase of the matcher, I have lost 70% of my matches.

SOMEBODY out there is winning most of their matches.

I guess they don’t talk about it because they feel great.

And the majority of the players don’t care enough to use the forums. I have no clue what my win % is but I’m actually winning quite a few matches queing solo.

I thought in this regard the old system worked fine. There was a 2 minute countdown before the match started, which, it seemed to me, was enough time for everyone to get into the game.

Would it be frustrating if AFK players caused you to wait 2 minutes at a time when the match is ready only to place you back into queue?

At the moment there are AFK players in que who aren’t getting kicked out of que when not accepting the Ready Up check box. People who ARE active should be able to check the box when it’s in front of their screen, where ever they are, and that checkbox should minimize to the side somewhere.

This is how strong PVE players casually PVP when in the living world, instead of being forced to join Hotm and stand around for a match.

Yes, it’s a temporary situation that is more noticeable to those players who are further away from the default MMR.

No, it’s by design that it lowers your MMR when playing a class you play less frequently. Sure, playing only one class will probably mean your core MMR and profession MMR are in sync, but I wouldn’t say this is preferable as the profession MMRs should catch up quickly.

An easier way is change the ‘odds of winning’ during the game. If people leave during game before 300 points, the odds change drastically for both teams. Players shouldn’t be held accountable for losing mmr because they had to endure a leaver at the beginning, or middle of the game.

This thread is missing two things to support the claims of condi guard:

1) Great Math
2) Videos

PvP is a little different as condi’s are a bit stronger, running a hybrid build while fighting on point is pretty nice, but bunker/support guardian is still our best build in a strong tpvp team. As a hybrid guardian what role do you fullfil? At least with a zerker medi you can burst someone down quickly when they aren’t expecting it. There are classes who can do this better, but celes engie’s, ele’s, and warrior’s are far better hybrids and sustained fighters.

To the OP, you probably should post those vids and as always, if you are winning 1v2s or 1v3s it is because they were bad players.

They were most definitely.. especially the 1v3’s. That should never happen. But what’s curious is no one else said they could do the same.. in any situation. I guess splitting raw damage to multiple people, unless they’re right on top of each other, is more difficult.

I wasn’t going to post videos because of a previous post, but I guess it’s needed. I’ll try to duel “good” people in koth for the sake of showing rotations…and grab footage in tpvp/rank so you can see for yourself.

Getting footage in rank pvp is proving to be most difficult… the 1v2’s I’m doing is an utter joke and I can’t even find a decent team to play against that shows what the build is capable of. It’s going to take a while to find worthy enough clips against good teams. Because of all the newer players and spvp merging with tpvp, I’m desperately trying not make a montage of baddies so bare with me.

I’m guessing you’re expressing skepticism here, but its only been 2 days… give me a bit more time. I’ll consider it a personal failing if I can’t resolve the issue after a year.

Unranked matches are going to turn into a reward farm for organized teams to climb the R80 ladder. Even fewer still are actually going to play at the level envisioned for ranked team matches.

Unranked will not have a ladder, so maybe you meant ranked? The goal is to make it far more likely that high skill level teams are paired against each other.

If you want to drive people towards organized play only, with no step ladder to get there

We choose unranked because it acts as a stepping stone. We expect the more organized players to gravitate toward ranked arena for the additional ladder rewards.

Some people, like myself, just want accessible pvp with decent rewards. SoloQ made that happen.

I hope unranked will fill this place for you. I understand what you’re saying, and we are paying attention.

I’ll give you that. I’m also pretty sure your getting hammered by your corporate guys to turn SPVP into something like the League of Legends 29million viewer finals that pulled more attention than the USA NBA finals.

I will say that this is a very different kind of playerbase because every game system of guildwars 2 outside of a very small avenue of SPVP is geared towards casual play for people who work full time jobs, don’t want to be tied to a time-based subscription, and have limited playtime. This is what makes the game successful.

I will say while I applaud the effort, it will be very difficult to create a highly competitive environment with a game whose root systems are deeply tied to the casual player. Its almost like building a firing range for high powered rifles inside of a dance studio.

If you ask me, you should have focused on making SPVP more fun over competitive -and instead just engineered a side game like Blizzard did with Hearthstone to tap into the competitive pvp world. Guildwars 2 is really too complex of a game and doesn’t have the root systems needed to create balanced PvP play, there are too many moving parts. Esports games need to be simple (such as 1 fire button, 1 secondary fire button, a limited selection of guns but a wide variety of tactics on how they can be employed).

Guildwars has too many moving parts, too many traits, too many unique class mechanics with different dependencies, too many scripted AI-based abilities. It’s an absolute nightmare to balance for esports when compared to something like LoL, who’s heroes have like what, 3-5 skills and an ultimate.

I may have mispoke when I said “climb the R80 ladder.” I’m still not sure how ranking and points work in the new system, what I was referring to are organized teams dominating the large casual player base that is really just there to complete the spvp reward tracks, which are going to be incredibly painful to finish now.

I’m willing to give it some time. The real success to this is to see if:

A.) More people actually play PvP now and not less
B.) High skill players actually migrate to the ranked play.

I know I sound cynical but I really hope that whatever your doing, it works.

I agree on the many moving parts of the game, the huge AI system, and it having a complex pvp system in general. But Dumbfounding the game too much can have the same effect of >insert big mmo here<, ruining the diversity of how one toon can be played and ultimately ruining the pvp experience (for me) because of it’s more simplicit nature.
The meta guides are there for noobies to utilize solid builds while top teams will dominate as always.
In all honesty, AI’s and complexity can work if you have a solid system in place. Many people enjoy the diverse nature of the game while others have accepted it. It’s still one of the most balanced pvp games I’ve played.

Don’t get me started with Spvp… sure people love the fact that it’s solo play and not against premades. That it has a competitive aspect to it because of the fake rank system where moving up is based on 70% luck and 30% skill. If you didn’t win your first 10+ games then you’ll never be in the top 20 let alone top 50; earning rank due to pure skill after x amount of time invested never existed.

If you queue and don’t accept you shouldn’t be able to requeue automatically…

If people que and afk for what ever reason, they will never get kicked out. The average Queue time has increased from 2m to 15m in a short amount of time because of these few people who are away..

Since we can’t join any custom matches or pve like we used to.. we’re forced to wait in Hotm twiddling our thumbs, hoping we don’t get that afk-que’er who we unfortunately get every time for what ever the reason.

This seriously needs to be addressed.
