I’ve never seen a shout build duel or 1v1 efficiently. They’re only ever useful if they’re on a 2v2 or 3v3 specific teams. Even then, the usual 21614 can output more damage.

I’ve been wrong before though

As for the usual zerker meta, might stacks will hurt almost every other meta build 5x as much. Zerker 21614 builds wont feel a thing.

Dps celes non-shout/non-altruistic builds are normally xx66x or xx64x, mostly relying on Empowering Might trait and Sigil of Strength and staff. Because we’re not as resilient in terms of surviving like d/d eles, most builds run Staff for the quick 12 stack + whirling wrath burst. Staff usually puts us at 25 stacks without Battle sigils, some even run fire/air sigs (like you) for added burst.
These builds should still reach 25 stacks of might with maybe 1 battle sigil on Staff… even then, Sigil of Energy on staff may be ever more preferred now.

Not many Guards really use Battle Sigils religiously like d/d Eles. We don’t weapon switch nearly as much because of GS’s autos. Dropping battle sigils altogether isn’t going to break these type builds.

Hands down 2x engi’s and/or 2x eles.
How many bad mesmers/thieves/rangers do you get compared to engis/eles/wars?

People on these classes simply perform better. What I absolutely hate is having a comp with two thieves vs a team with two engis or eles… I know I’m in for a very rough game.

Out of all the downed states to change...

Wars have too much counter play? Their down states is one of the best in game and almost uncounterable. I’ve seen a warrior use his downed-state-rez to revive his whole team by stomping.

The change for mesmers are mainly because of thieves. It was something they very much needed… I don’t run a mesmer and I feel their grief..

As for rifle engineers, when ever they suddenly rush you, that’s when they’ll use overcharged shot. Higher tier Engi’s will know exactly when they’re in range for the shot but lower tier Engi’s will almost always go towards you first then use it. I’ve purposely dodged their abilities before, practice makes perfect!

At OP. If it’s not one thing… it’s another..
Condi Engi’s = Condi Guards = Condi rangers. We all know they mostly play point defender rotations. If you have little to no condi cleanses, all condi classes will be op to you.
If you can’t cleanse a 10s condition then you have bigger issues.

Why do people want every single aspect of this game nerfed?

Because some people can actually tell how the changes will impact the game. For example, after these latest balance changes, engi is going to be the most OP class by far. It is obvious.

It’s true, and I’m a little worried about engis myself.

I’m confused what yall are saying.
This coming patch will nerf might stacking. Other than a couple minor cd reductions, Engi’s aren’t getting buffed.

I hope you mean that Cele Engi’s will be weaker yet more OP than Ele and Warriors. Because other than that, the class after this patch will be the same as before.

Tell me, does shield’s #5 30s cd + Rune of the warrior + Honorable Shield = 18s cd ability?

The warrior rune reduces the recharge of your weapon swap. You probably misread it as “reduces skill recharge on weapon swap”. So no, minimum recharge of shield #5 will be 24 seconds.

Minor TPvP Changes I'd Like To See.

-The minimap clutter is too much.
Reds are stacked under blue… Blues are stacked under red… you can never tell if it’s a 1v1 or 1v2 happening. Mesmer clones are also visible for no reason.

-Turn the minimap’s Red and Blue icons as Health Bars.
In tournaments they show the entire map to the viewers. For the spectators, we don’t see anything other than the rotations of people. It can be extra exciting if we see a thief roaming towards a very low Blue/Red icon.
Have a constant solid outline of red or blue around these icons, with a lighter hue filling that icons color.
1% health means that icon’s completely see through with the exception of that icon’s outlined.

-Target yourself option.
There are many instances when downed, that I wish I could Target myself to better notify my team. Perhaps a “Target Yourself” or “Self Target” as a key bind in Options.

Several other UI revisions may be needed, but I feel these are the most important ones.

This game has one of the best MMO RPG PvP around. With this game’s build diversity, it’s pvp balance is simply on a different level.

As a concept design, Guild vs Guild may or may not have been Anet’s attempt @ end game. The lore however, suggests that there’s factions vs factions, hence the name they picked.
In short, this game’s lore takes after the first.. hence the “2” after “Guild Wars”

cele ele isn’t really all that op, they are actually pretty healthy they have counters and counter other classes. condi engi on the other hand only countered by another condi engi and longbow ranger, and counter every one else.

There’s a huge difference between a class that performs better in almost any team composition…. It’s why 2x engi/war/ele are (were) better than any guard/thief/mesmer/ranger.
This is why these type classes are (were) OP.

Cele type builds are a jack of all trades. @ high might stacks they almost out do Zerker bursts yet still maintaining high amounts of heals/vita/toughness. These Cele builds pushed Zerker builds out of the meta due to their damage and tankiness. They can enter any team composition and succeed

projectile absorb it limited because of mobility and duration-cooldown, why not have it a reflect instead of just destroying it, providing more ranged offensive capability. In fact I think all of our projectile block skills should “reflect” instead of just destroy.

They just might. They learned with engineer shield, to make it mobile; they should do the same with guardian.

Eh personally I think they should have reduced shield #4 to 20 seconds & gotten rid of the difference between PVP & PvE for it (in PvP its duration is halved)

Then just changed #5 into an AOE knockback that applies AEGIS to allies with a 25 second cool down

I’m curious if they think that the shield’s reduced knockdown outweighs an Aegis boon

Tell me, does shield’s #5 30s cd + Rune of the warrior + Honorable Shield = 18s cd ability?

Show "Win-Chances" at the end of a match

We do plan to show the odds of winning as part of the final ladder when it’s released. We simply did not have the UI resources to get anything out in time for the test ladder.

Out of interest, what does “did not have the UI resources” mean? Did you run out of pixies making pixels?

He’s talking about man power, financial resources, etc. A game with no monthly subsription, limited employee line, can only produce so much product quarterly. You’d be surprised how pricey an mmo’s upkeep can be. Everything’s on a budget schedule.

Why did you not actually nerf engineers?

These changes will not change much simply a nudge in the right direction

We need a LEAP in the right direction

I cannot quote this hard enough. The might nerfs might tone down celestial eles and engies, but 5 months wait for this? A few shaving here and there? What we need right now, is to defibrillator the meta, not just poke with a needle and see if it is still alive or not.

Guess this is it, countless feedback, and that’s that. See you guys in 5~6 months for another balance patch that will probably do kitten all. I have lost hope for pvp in this game.

Lets not completely destroy these classes shall we?
A reduction of 140-150 power is approximately 30-40 damage without damage modifiers. That’s 60-80 extra crit damage. In a course of a fight, that’s a reduction of between 1100-1800 damage. That’s just raw damage… not including conditions.

It’s actually a solid nerf to these Celestial Might stacking builds.

As an avid Torch user, this is quite a big change for it. Shield finally got some loving too.

To top it all off, they nerfed Might and every Might stacking build. Killing these cele classes are ever more easier with burn guards now.
Not that it was any type of difficult before.

it removes might like 70% of the time. I think its actualy a “last applied first removed” trait. But really the problem is that guardians dont even burn people every 10 seconds LOL.

Actually we apply burns every 5 seconds with just auto attacks. Not counting our 5 burn blocks, excluding shelter, and 5 other activated burn skills.

70% might removal rate becomes 40% in TPvP. Might will never get cleansed with everyone applying mediocre boons to each other. You can’t measure the proc rate… boon ripping is luck of the draw and should be changed.

The boon removed is the stack of Might. Between prot/stab being applied and might being removed, no new might stacks proc to push might back to being the “most recently applied”.

Unless there is a mechanic where the boon removal cannot decide between protection or stability as they both get applied at the exact same time and as a back-up defaults to the 3th most recent boon. But that would be very weird.

You’re right he couldn’t have possibly reapplied might. Based on his current rotation Water applied might, then stability and regen immediately proc’d.
That weird mechanic you suggested has to be why. Makes no sense :c

Upon reflection, yes you are right that it never prioritized Might. This seems to have been based on a lucky streak of Might cleansing.

But I still contest the idea it takes the last applied Boon out first. In the video at the 00:50 mark and the following 2 seconds, it clearly shows both Protection and Stability popping on the Ele.
However the Searing Flames proc takes out the Might stack, which was on there before either the Protection or the Stability. And did not receive an extra proc in between stability/protection being applied and Searing Flames proccing.

@ 00:41 – 43 Searing Flames got rid of Might because Might got applied right away.

@ 00:50 The Ele was in his Fire Fields/Might rotations. Because of his rotations, he could have easily button smashed might along with his other skills.

Because of the active Fire Field under him, I’d have to say Might was still triggered before other boons due to his button smashing.

It’s luck that might gets removed the way it does. It’s never a priority.

and yet there is not a single person out there that wants more than 1 thief on team… but it is fine to have multple wars, guards, engis, eles, necros, rangers even mesmers on same team~

Flawed logic is flawed…..

So would you rather have a full team of 5 bunker guardians, or 5 cele engis, or 5 power ranger, or 5 necros , etc etc?!

I would you like to watch a football game with 11 goalies, or 11 trainers, etc….. They are both vital yet you dont see european leagues asking for several of them…..

Thieves are prevalent in ALL teams, every single one of them, throughout the entire history of the game since release, unlike other classes, which had literally 0% in some competitions, namely elementalists.

Having 2-3 Thieves or Mesmers is pretty extremely bad.

Having 2-3 more stackable professions would be better. Usually when you get 3 Thieves, the other 2 aren’t people aren’t even able to stand on point, creating a fully dysfunctional comp.

Get 3 Engies/Warriors/Eles/Guardians/Rangers and you can say, ‘alright, these pickup players probably won’t mass suicide at mid.’

It’s because Thief/Mesmer fill different role than other classes. However it doesn’t mean Thief isn’t OP. Imho game shouldn’t be balanced around class stacking, players shouldn’t be punished for switching at the beginning of match so stacking of classes at certain MMR wouldn’t be issue, since ‘good’ players should be able to play more than one class.

Also if each single winning team in tournaments has Thief, then it proves there is something wrong with Thief if having it is necessary to win. While Mesmer is rarely played (compared to Thief) and Ranger is close to not be played at all. Keep in mind that ‘solo q aka ranked arena’ =/= competitive team play.

Thieves are obviously the best roamer classes in the game. One single thief can backcap/uncontested a node then roam half across the map to help gank a 1v1 fight.
That’s why every top team has a thief. No other class does it better.

Players with 1200 toughness and half health get two shotted by a thief and start QQing.

Nobody does Practice to farm. What kind of logic is that? High tier teams Practice first before entering TPvP.
Practice Mode is working as intended.

Furthermore, they will continue to practice until they get their composition worked out. If you can’t handle the heat in Practice mode, do hotjoins. That’s what they’re there for.

I’d have to show you game play footage instead of build theories. In TPvP I mainly use torch #5 to clean my partner’s conditions, not for dealing damage. If I see a warrior’s bow burn, ele’s fire circle, necro’s aoe condi burst or specific engi condi skills. I usually do a good job at looking at my team’s conditions and acting appropriately.
I’ll use it to cleave, when a Guardian pops sanctuary, when a thief enters Shadow Refuge. If I have no other skills up I’ll of course use it as a filler to deal damage or to attack when I’m not in range with my sword.
If #5 cleansed conditions on myself, or if you gave it 5 more hits in a short time span, it would be too powerful.

While i also appreciate the fact he does respond to posts, i feel half the time its just to shut people up/ promote false hope that the devs do care/actually doing things to sort out the mess that is pvp.

However i cant help but not take anything he says seriously because it will take another 6 months, IF AT ALL for any of our feedback to taken seriously.
It’s constant “will look into it, we are aware of it, this has potential what are other peoples views” blah blah blah.

Like, ive seen this for 2 years and pvp is still in a state of 1 mode/failed ladder, season,mmr.

It gets to a point where no one really cares if he responds or not because kitten all will be done to improve this game in pvp for another year. Just my opinion.

Torch is fine, at least for burn builds. In TPVP you’re also giving your team (600 radius) 9 condi cleanses, which helps tremendously. 10x hits from skill #5 make burn procs that much desirable.

You’re trying to make torch sync more with Zerker type builds but unless you prefer a 3k crit ranged torch or a 3block/3k crit melee-ranged focus. that’s going to be your personal preference.

With the introduction of the new 60 second grace period for unranked and ranked tPvP, that essentially means that character swapping is back on the table.

I think profession locking is a good thing overall, provided that the matchmaking prevented a high frequency of duplicate professions per side.

That matchmaking feature was not functioning to the satisfaction of the playerbase. The matchmaking needed to be working as advertised to prevent being locked in to running 3 Thieves, for example. It’s good that it’s disabled for the time being.

Looking to the future:

  • Potential abuse in unranked queue via voting Skyhammer and swapping to a Skyhammer build.
  • Counter comping. Due to seeing the enemy professions & names on the scoreboard.

Suggestion

  • Add feature to Custom Arenas called: Pre-Game Privacy
  • Feature would hide the enemy team names & professions on the scoreboard with a key & lock icon, still revealing if they’d hit ‘ready’ though.
  • Pre-Game Privacy would be forced in unranked/ranked tPvP, and of course optional in Custom Arenas so scrims and in-house competitions could function organically.

Quite simply, allowing character swapping, but not providing the tPvPers with information on their enemies – this will promote building a well balanced, functional comp, without the Build Wars 2.0 feel. All will be revealed after the 10 second game-start warning takes place.

I would do this, if tournaments ran the same way. At the end of the day, I want Ranked to be the same training as tournaments.

If we knew who the people were on the other team, but couldn’t see their class – that would be ideal in my opinion.

Yes, John in earlier post said he will suggest that to the team. I hope it grabs traction and gets developed for next patch.
If players want to waste 30-40s to switch classes and risk losing points, let them.

In video time: 1:40 is the Guards next proc. Ele grabs Regen right before it happens… His Regen got wiped off and not the Might stack. Rewind the video 1:35 and watch till 1:40.
It’s very evident that Might is not a priority. This is with all “Remove a boon” traits/skills/sigils.

The Fix
Have a max game of 15 per week. It’s impossible to play more and get more points. The ladder will put everyone in place.

This would give 10h ques to everyone…
I would rather see something like: position on ladder based on winratio with minimum of XX games played. However it could discourage many people to play after ‘lucky’ winstreak and reaching minimum of those required games.

Not sure how this would give everyone 10h que’s. Right now there are numerous people in TPvP queing and the seasons over. I’m not saying once you’re maxed out for the week, you’re not allowed to TPvP. You can still TPvP as normal.

Getting “luck streaks” will be no different than Backpack’s 99-0 record. Averaging it out, a player like Backpack plays 3 games a day, which is actually more than the average casual player. I would say a 10-15 cap would be fair for everyone.

1) There’s a cap of X amount of games you earn credit from.
2) People have to play X amount of games a week in order to reach their maximum point cap.
3) The participation effect that Anet wanted is still there, except without the huge grind.

If high tier players choose to play @ 4:00am against very low MMR teams and win all their games, then they’ll only receive 1 rank point (if any) per win due to their MMR being so low.

Or they can play at peek times (the day before and after reset) and possibly get matched up with higher MMR teams and receive 2 or 3 rank points. Wondering if you’re going to face a high or low MMR team will be no different than the current system.

A condition weapon. Giving the Guardian bleeding would be nice. As it stands they have no reason as to why the guardian doesn’t have access to it.

Burns is the guardian’s condi trademark. We’re suppose to be Thee burn class. It’s one of the reasons why we got Amplified Wrath. We have the most damaging condition in the game.

Something has to be done with Supreme Justice. It has to be buffed or merged with another trait.

that is not the true fix.

the true fix is to find a way to increase player participation so that the matchmaker can be restricted to ONLY match teams with very similar MMR, and 1 point for win and -1 for loss, so that players will naturally max out on their leaderboard points. No matter how many games they play, they can’t get past their personal limit without getting better as a player or team.

if the top team was unmatched in MMR, they would not ever get a game in queue. but if it’s going to be a guaranteed roflstomp, why should they get one?

You can’t just increase the player base in PvP. For the sake of argument, imagine they changed the rewards to Gold or Gems. Every PvE player and their mothers will want to PvP till their heart’s content. You’ll obviously get a large amount of grinders on the leaderboard. Same for MMR; players will have to grind their wins to increase their MMR to match a higher tier team of 99wins and 0 losses. Teams will never reach it.

Things wouldn’t change.

We all know (I hope) that there are builds that counter other builds. If something OP, it means there’s an imbalance some where; something else isn’t as strong to counter it. I’m curious, exactly how many other builds counter Celestial Build: Ele/Engi/War?

As a condi guardian… I’ll tell you right now that Cele Ele builds, or tanky-heavy Might/sustaining builds, will be incredibly easy to beat. Not easier, easy.

Condi Guards already wreck shop in 1v1’s. Our draw back is large amounts of condi cleanses. It’s why we get hard countered ever so easily; people don’t find them viable (I beg to differ) in Tpvp. We should almost always lose against high tier players with 5+ condi cleanses. Same goes for condi rangers. Same goes for condi engis.

With Cele Builds, there isn’t a definite hard counter. Stripping 15+ stacks of Might, or Regen boon, doesn’t come as easy for other classes like Mesmers. The easiest boon strip Guardians have.. with out changing their builds all too much.. is Searing Flames. It kills 1 boon every 10s. Which ever boon gets applied first, that’s what it will strip.

If removing a boon was based on duration, Might will almost always get removed first, followed by Regen, then fury or stability. These are the biggest game changing boons that these type classes utilizes.

TLDR
Instead of nerfing Cele Builds, have the boon strip mechanic target boon duration instead of boon application.

The issue is, you have to compete in order to climb the ladder. That’s with every ladder system. The biggest issue is people are competing more than others, thus they’re going to gain more points. It’s equivalent to a golfer playing more tournaments than everyone else. Earning points is inevitable as long as you’re competing.

Edit: Unranked pvp is more forgiving if you quit. There’s no penalty.

I removed all the other secondary effects of Aegis that were traited as well as secondary traits on Blocks such as defenders flame*…*

activated Virtue of resolve to turn off its passive and still saw no extra heal trigger, As far as i can tell the 6th trait does not work.

You may need to do that again while trying to notice if your health points change any.

Either
1) The heal log (Combat > boons log > shows ur heals) is broken and doesn’t show this.. the bug happens a lot.
2) The heal is so small you litterally don’t know the difference.
3) It’s broken

Based on your tests, it’s either too small to make a difference or it’s simply broken. Either ways i’d see if the rest of the rune helps you. Good luck!

Items like this should be posted in the wvw/pvp/pve section.

If you buy off the pve’rs and they’re also wanting this change, the higher likelyhood that’ll happen.

No one looks at the Guardian; class specific forums. No moderator ever reply to our bugs and skill rants….

Wait a minute there sparky, so if some one pulls the plug on themselves to purposely dc for 30s, they have the option to switch characters when they log back in?

Their excuse is that they can’t really predict the outcome of a match, whether it’s a 4v5 at start or it turned into a 4v5 mid game. But, if Anet are so confident about their mmr matchmaking, then teams shouldn’t be winning 4v5 games if all these games suppose to be 50/50. Yet, teams have indeed won 4v5 games.

I agree with you and think that the odds of winning/losing should still change depending on how the mmr is changed. In a static way. Meaning the moment the person leaves, the odds change. If he comes back, odds revert to normal. If you wanted to make the system smarter, change the odds of victory/losing based on the score differences between that person leaving and that person coming back.

There are a number of ways to make the matchmaking, prediction system, pvp experience better. It’s a matter of resources that Anet is willing to spend on a pvp system that only 20% of gw2 population uses.

It would be to give Guardians mobility(runspeed mostly). I don’t even care much for controlling conditions(cripple) in comparison to speed.

I don’t want my Guardian to play like a warrior… improve our “teleport” skills by remove that crappy ‘shadow step’ mechanic… or just call it a shadow step so i don’t rage when my Teleport fails
Better our movement impending skills and signet knockdown skills…these signets should be an instant cast.

The PvE is what makes this game.
PvP (apart from WvW) almost seems like an afterthought of the devs, there’s not even a dedicated 1v1 system – just 5v5 on the same 4 maps.

The only reason most of us bought GW2 was for its pvp, and if you have played other mmos it would be obvious that this game was built from the ground up for pvp; in fact most of the criticism I read about GW2 in other game forums is from pvers complaining about a lack of “roles” and everyone being “dps”.

GW2 is a pvp game with pve tacked on.

Absolutely False. This is a PvE game with PvP as a by-product.
If this was a pvp focused game you’d have 1v1/2v2/3v3 type game modes, in game esl tournaments or equivalent, a proper leaderboard + ladder system…. that’s just for starters.

Simply put, the player base isn’t there. Would there be a higher player base if these were added? Maybe, but then again, PvE wouldn’t be nearly as good either… it’s a give and take.

This game’s PvP is still one of the best out there.. so i can’t complain too much :P

I practice in unranked, “practice” mode seems broken in many ways whenever I play it making it virtually impossible to test new builds/ideas.

Technically, it’s working as intended. Teams are able to join this unranked mode and test their team composition, against others who may also have a strong team composition.

If you’re wanting to test new build and ideas, I recommend hotjoin and dueling.

Regarding Dueling In The Game

A Dev in his previous posts said we have custom matches for duels… which would be fine but currently, there’s no regulation to it. There’s no duel specific option. The community basically added their own dueling grounds to a game that never supported it in the first place.

Currently there are numerous trolls in these custom servers with little to no regulation. By “troll” I mean they are interrupting everyone else’s ability to duel and test out their 1v1 specs. There’s even a couple of troll clans, specific to dueling.
When moderators aren’t on to ip ban them, there has to be a voting option of some sort to kick these players… followed by a three strike warning system.

I recommend a 3 day – 1 week ban. People will troll just out of spite. There’s been a lot of toxic talking in the dueling community, against specific players, because of these type trolls.

Bunker/condi builds could be lots more powerful if retaliation ticked for 500 damage. But then again… an instant 10hit from thief or ranger would be utterly OP… maybe only have it affect ourselves; when we apply aegis on someone?

If our Aegis could proc a 500 damage retaliation, then Rune of Resistance (aegis on signet) Communal Defense, and other Aegis traited abilities would be very powerful.

30 seconds is a stomp and roam to far or two respawn deaths back to back. It’s a difference between a treb kill, a svari kill, a node capture + roam pressure. Lord can get downed in 30s…
The amount of time that Anet is giving us to come back is more than enough.

It should load us straight into a pvp match instead of hotm. Or the time the game realizes you need to be in a match should he faster.

I wouldn’t mind the six month periods between patches if at some point the Devs would sit down and share some of what they’re working on in regards to balance with us quarterly. Maybe give approximate schedules for patches, etc.

I like Anet for the most part, but the secretiveness or ambiguous statements is frustrating over a long period of time. Other MMOs and games I have played have had rather open relations with the players, and the communities were less frustrated when they understood that Devs were working towards fixing or balancing certain things.

They took a big step this year by having Devs answer our numerous questions regarding the recent pvp changes. As well as wanting feedback from the community. They even gave us dc amnesty because we asked for it. You can say this is expected and that every game does this, but not many free to play mmorpg, at this scale. I’ve even bought a couple things from the gem store out of respect… and because I look sexyfabulous.

With the rave about certain sustain builds (celes itself isn’t the culprit) Anet is likely to change something. I’m sure they don’t want two of the same classes over, say, a dps Guardian or Ranger.

The fixes are coming, but not this soon. I would expect a patch towards end of spring.
