Damage Meters??

The chat log is still heavily bugged and clouded. For example, an extra projectile or two from whirling wrath will be missing on a Char, but show up when playing on Human.
Regardless, everyone knows that viewing the combat log is a cluttering pain. I know a guard player who has a damage calculator he made in excel. I’m tempted to replicate that…

If it belongs to the enemy of course if you win the fight you will get points for the kills and then the decap and cap, but you would not tick points for simply fighting near an enemy controlled node because unless you win that fight it was a waste of time.

Here’s a scenario that wouldn’t be a waste of time.
1) Home is capped but mid isn’t. You roam to far and 1v2 some one for 10-20s. You die and respawn, suddenly mid becomes capped because of a 4v3 fight you made happen when you went to far.
The system doesn’t work with scenarios like these. The score board will always show you with lesser points and players will QQ about how you’re low on the score board.

I’d say the standard meta 2/1/6/1/4 meditation guardian works fine with GS/hammer.

It certainly does, very nice for solo roaming. The extra condi cleanse imo is more useful than the extra HP with 0/1/6/6/1.

For 3v3/4v4 type fights I agree. But you would have to save JI for either whirling wrath, or hammer… you’d have no support vs rangers, mesmers and necros.
I see Huge weaknesses with gs/hammer combo.

There are several instances as to why you’re not directly on or near an already captured node.
1) A bunker can stand on it.
2) A bunker can stand a couple yards off.
3) You’re bottle necking the enemy team in the middle of the map so they don’t go any further. (high tier does this).

As normal, your team gets a point per second, per captured node.
If Node Defend points were implemented, you’d get a defend point per second, while in that territory.
If it’s contested, neither players in that territory gets a point.

Issues
Dps will still receive more points from stomps, assists, etc, on top of their Defending Point tick if this was ever implemented… Bunkers still arent rewarded by stalling the enemy team; by 1v2ing, etc. This goes back to my previous excessive post about every single action (damage, damage negated, team heals, boons, etc) being a tally point or a type of fraction point that counts towards your player score.

The picture below is an example of territory defender points, but it still wont work.

Maybe it’ll offer an idea or two but in short, it’s a tally system based on every aspect of damage, damage negation including healing done and all boon buffs. Including how you effect your team in groups or off a node. Either ways, the more excessive the point system is, the more reliable the in game score is going to be.

hey Justin, anything in the works to prevent 3 rangers on one team vs. none on the other, or 2 engies + 2 necros vs. none of either on the other team type stuff from happening? i.e. better prof distribution. this is by far the greatest flaw of the matchmaker atm, because not ever prof can fill every role well. for example, a team with 2 thieves and 2 power rangers have no point presence, usually results in loss. stuff like that. and will the matchmaker ever be intelligent enough to look at the spec as well?

There already is something in place, it’s just being overwhelmed. We also had to lower the enforcement of duplicate professions because it was overshadowing party size scoring.

Could it be because of the Daily Class achievement that’s been implemented? Golly-gee-wilikers.

As for OP, there are Numerous things about that game (never saying its name) that Anet should Never replicate. Don’t get me started…

The easiest solution would be to have the class daily randomized: right now two professions are selected randomly (it’s not a designed pattern, you can tell by the lack of necro daily) and given to everyone. Why not have the achievement randomized for each player individually, to avoid profession stacking?

Pvp DPS Guardian: low risk high reward

Low skill floor low skill cap too.

Nothing hard about counting people’s dodges and bursting them once their dodges are down. Doesn’t help that Guardian burst is also kittened easy to land because of how fast casting it is.

Not much to learn when you can escape through teleport meditation or spamming blinds and blocks as you burst someone.

I’ve played it and it feels like it’s just a pathetic designed button mashing class.

Just another class that’s even more braindead than shatter Mesmer or Cele Ele.

If you’re “spamming” anything, then you’re doing it wrong.

Sounds like you need a heavy dose of ‘Get Good’.

I see what you’re saying but no one focus’s AI pets except for maybe turrets. A person isn’t going to waste a 2-4k damage skill on a spirit weapon. They will just (try) to aoe them down.

Spirit weapons are on par with ranger spirits, except not as efficient…

While it’s true people won’t focus them in most cases, however its because they die so quickly to cleave & AOE.

As for them being on par with ranger spirits. I wouldn’t really say that.
Ranger spirits are on much shorter cool downs, offer more utility (Shield being the exception), help the group more & can be traited to have a good deal more health.

I wish they could help the group

Played this weekend to full traited SoR, and untraited SoR, i didnt noticed any kind of diference the spirit was rare to last the 30 seconds mos of time lasted 2-3 seconds due the ammount of red circles and conditions, in a few enconters went to protect players that were not in combat, command someitmes not obeing and started a cooldown as if skill was trigered.

Since Anet can gather data fom skill use, would be great if players could help by more guardians using spirit weapon in more situations.

Trying to view from the other side of the looking glass, developers cannot improve skills if they dont have data to make any decision.

I & allot of people I know wish they would just redesign them to be more like a mix between ranger spirits & banners. (With the CD starting when it’s summoned)

In that I mean invulnerable & stationary (trait could make them follow you but be vulnerable to damage) but grant a passive stat boost to allies & be commandable to grant a special effect to the guardian (with a trait to cause the special to be shared or boosted).

Sword could give a boost to precision. It could then have a command so that the next X attacks the guardian makes apply bleeding & vulnerability.

Hammer could grant a bonus to power. The command could cause the next attack made (next one that lands) to cause a knock down.

Shield could grant a bonus to vitality & the command could be to create a dome around the guardian which absorbs projectiles.

Bow could grant a bonus to critical damage & the command could cause it to… well do something useful.

This would directly effect Signets and make them obsolete.
I do like the idea of hammer, sword and shield command abilities to automatically activate on their death. That would make it them on par with spirit rangers.

I wouldn’t mind bringing in a 4k-6k cc hammer burst into a group fight

Taking beast at beginning in Ranked

Try to look at it from the eyes of a beginner guys.

The NPCs award points, and give you a buff. Who wouldn’t want that?

It takes a higher level of understanding of the both the map and conquest mechanics to get that securing mid is important.

How would you guys suggest we go about teaching this to players?

I applaud the many aspects that Smite has. At every patch you can watch a video about either new content, tips, announcers talking about a past tournament, etc. When you first start the game there’s a step by step gameplay tutorial. It doesn’t just talk about basic UI functions.

This isn’t a moba game and it sure doesn’t play like one (thank goodness!). But regarding certain core aspects like node holding, not fighting off point unless defending, grabbing stillness, or going sides because enemy team’s about to get Tranquility, these are the concepts that videos should be showing, or announcers should be talking about.
There should be a gameplay video, or some type of newbie friendly tip tutorial on very specific aspects in TPvP.

I respect the fact that participating = rank points… but once people realize they’re so far behind on points 4th week into the season, they don’t bother anymore.

I duel more and tpvp less because I’m never going to reach top 20 (between 300 – 500 rank points) on the leaderboards. There isn’t a “want to” when you know you’re going to get out grind. If I knew there was a chance to beat a certain person on the leaderboard and knock them down, then that would a great incentive to tpvp.

king of the hill arena issues

This is just my area. I’ll start with my build then go into strategies and ask what build you’re running. Oh and classes don’t use Cele in koth because it’s banned on everyone except engi… along with condi guardians. Yup. Condi guards are banned too. A friend and I (mostly my friend) dominated the host and a few other “notable” players… so condi was considered op and was added to the list. People still say they’re not viable in tpvp but that’s a discussion for another topic.

6×6xx carrion, doom/geomancy, sword/scepter, rune of krait.

In this build, when ever I say “Burst” I’m talking about #4 on torch + weapon switching. That’s a 1k damage proc per second on top of your 500 dps auto attacks. Rune of Krait offers an additional 500 dps.

Warriors
I know you’re not a fan of rune of krait, but that warrior being at 25% health would/should have been dead once you popped krait. That’s pretty much the same with every class with a couple minor exceptions.

All non-diamond skin Eles
This build wins 90% of celes or zerker eles.
For d/d, Do Not burst ele’s until after they leave water attunement. They usually start with Updraft (the speedy knockdown) in Lightning Attunment to cc and get in close. Then their fire fields in Fire Attunement; Burning Speed and Ring of Fire (for might combos). They’ll switch to either Water Attunement to cast Frozen Burst (for aoe cripple + might stacks), then/or Earth Attunement for the skill Earthquake (knockdown cc + might stacking)

Ele’s revolve around their abilities to stack might. You revolve around their Water Attunement rotation. That’s when they cleanse conditions most. Their water Attunement is very noticeable because they literally spit water around them to heal + condi cleanse. Save elite until After they leave that attunement, even if they’re at 20% health.
I don’t remember having issues with any scepter/focus eles but between all your stun breaks and blocks, Dragon’s Tooth should never hit you. Burst after they use Earth attunement/Magnetic Wave. That skill instantly cleanses 3 conditions.

Necros
Most necros burst when they enter Death Shroud. Ironically, that’s when they’re most vulnerable because they can’t cleanse conditions all too well. 99% of the time you will cast Rune of Krait the moment they enter Death Shroud. Follow with your bursts, then quickly pop shelter because the necro hits like a tank.
Good Minionmancer’s are your counter because they will out damage you; out sustain you with his minions. Unless you ran a different build against minion mancers, odds are you wont be able to beat him 1v1.

Thieves
Guardians counter all bad thieves. The bad thieves will die by your aoe condi’s… it’s ridiculous how many bad thieves there are in tpvp. I’ve fought a d/d celes ele in tpvp and had a thief gank me… only for him to die from my aoe condis in seconds. The same goes for rangers; that’s how most condi guards (as you already know) 1v2. It happens sooo often
The good thieves however, will almost always win by out playing you. Especially when they unload a full burst without a focus or block up. At start, they’ll usually throw their dagger to remove aegis then burst. Once they remove aegis I immediately pop VoC for another.

Rangers
Same as the above, with the exception of some builds. Power Rangers and Condi rangers can be difficult to beat, but very possible. There’s maybe 1 dps build out there and 1 spirit build out there that I can’t beat at all… or the odds are about 30-40%… but a medi/high raw damage build, just like minionmancer necros, is better against these type builds.
I’ve changed to numerous builds because I couldn’t beat, say spirit ranger or phanta mesmers, but was weak in other aspects like celes eles. In the end, I accept that there’s builds I can’t beat.

There are other condi builds like 04604 that utilizes absolute resolution. Those builds do less damage in exchange for team cleanses while still offering decent 1v1 capabilities.

Weapon switch right after you pop flashing blade or justice intervention for a near 100% chance of geomancy hitting. Same for flashing blade + Zealot’s Flame on torch #4. These should always hit.

Why is this thread continually getting bumped? Out of all the guardian fixes; wanting our shield revised, our “teleport” fixed… these type threads should be getting bumped on a weekly basis than a boon’s visual effect.

Me personally, I don’t use a shield so the aegis visual looks cool.

Add a 50% health increase in Honor’s major trait line for our spear head spirit weapons.

So you want to have to go into 4 separate trait lines to be able to get spirit weapons that are half decent ?

As is you already have to use 8 of your 14 trait points to make them half decent & that leaves very little room to spend elsewhere thus making your ability to do other things greatly diminished.

Think about why the spirit weapon trait line is spaced out to begin with. If say, Virtue’s Spirit Duration was moved to Zeal or Radiance, not only would build diversity be bland but spirits may be OP. There was a reason why spirit weapons are no longer invincible. The Honor trait line makes more sense than any of the others.

There isn’t 1 guardian build that’s superior, not even the meta. There’s a reason why the Guardian is so balanced no matter what ‘viable’ build you choose.

Based on that build on the build calculator and assuming 15 stacks of might (easier since build does not do 12) your damage stats are:

Isn’t it important for pre-game strategizing to see your enemies team composition? I feel like preventing class switching is actually the better solution.

no. team synergy > team counter.

Agreed. No more class switching to counter a team. This isn’t allowed in tournaments. It shouldn’t be allowed in tpvp.

This is the part of the reasoning behind locking profession. The other is to avoid Build Wars 2 and lower the amount secret knowledge that only experienced players know.

in the 2nd game, one of our team mates disconnected before the match even started, the whole game was 4 vs 5 right off the start, and we suffer a -2 ladder points for that?

Sounds more like we need to fix taking a ladder hit when someone deserts the game. Once someone leaves, there really isn’t much of a way to gauge the outcome because any person could have played a critical role in the comp or not.

What’s so wrong with changing the odds of victory? A team’s odds of victory Should drastically reduce if it’s a handicap.

If the handicap team wins, they should be rewarded due to their odds of victory being much lower.

If they lose, their rank points shouldn’t take a huge toll, if any.

Engineer is just so broken - 10 balance steps

These condi dps engi’s are only good for 1v1s/defending a point. Any team with a decent amount of aoe cleanses will rekt these engis in 3v3/4v4s.

Had one engi sit on his home point and people kept going towards him and losing fights. Similar to a bunk guard, you can out rotate that kind of team composition.

Not to mention that baddies/melee tend to swallow their condi/dps ground fields… Some people have no idea how to fight them.

Ya, Dev stated that you went up against full teams (almost) twice. Your second picture it looks like you actually tried to win. Grats your pug beat a (almost) full premade (or are you the premade?).

My fault I should have been more specific. The second game/picture i’m with the premades
(winning against the pugs I lost with previously)

The looks of your first picture though………………… your team didn’t even try or have no idea what they are doing. Lets start with you, 2 far nutes/ caps and you just sat there for the entire round not helping your team, leaving them 4v5. Of course you will loose. You have a warrior in your base 1v1ing, IN YOUR BASE ?! kitten?! You have a thief who is coming to help you on an uncontested point leaving the rest a 4v2…………kitten?! Mid is an obvious loss and he could have pushed home or waited for the others to spawn (if dead already) and re-pushed out. Also unless they killed boss right at the start of the match you let 1 person go kill your boss? 1 Warrior? Your team may have been incompetent this match, but it doesn’t look like you helped much either. Use team chat and coordinate better, would be a start.

I’m not a bunk guardian so I don’t sit on a node… Every time I capture a point and no one is coming, I support mid. Assuming I down a player from defending (almost always do unless 1v2) I start counting to 15, support mid, then head back to home/far if need be.

The thief shouldn’t have been anywhere near that area… There was no reason to go far. I would have typed to go home.. but it no longer mattered..

Even if we had perfect rotations going on, best score we would have gotten would have been maybe 300. We had 2 thieves on our team playing like warriors… and a warrior who was probably off meta because he did terribly. The MMR may have showed both teams as balanced… but team composition made one side favoritable than the other.

Critique from the two pictures all you want but this is beyond a rotation issue.

I understand that. In regards to that first match, even if all of us were waiting for 10 minutes, why have 3v2 vs 5 solos?
It could have easily been 3+1+1 vs 2+1+1+1
That’s better than 3+2 vs 1+1+1+1+1, wouldn’t you agree?

So everyone else was waiting for who knows how long and you were the 10th player making it instant for you. Did you go around and ask every single player how long they were waiting…no you didn’t. I have got insta Q pops on my team and the enemy premade said they were waiting for over 10 minutes. I have waited for 10 minutes and they enemy team said they got insta pop. Just because YOU got an insta Q pop, does not mean the matchmaking system wasn’t running for a while on that match. Your MMR came along and they system decided it had waited long enough and took you. Use your brain. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

Please read correctly and understand a person’s post before replying to it.

I’ll help you out with bold letters.

First game of the day, full pugs vs a 3+2 team (I lost)
(Right clicking showed they were all solo on my team)
(Right clicking enemy showed they were a 3+2 team)
Lets just pretend they were waiting super long queue times = poor match making…

Are you saying that next game, being only 1 single team of 2s (on my team), matchmaking decided to insta que us (at least 3 players) because a couple of players waited pass two minutes?

Don’t give me that “Population so low” bullcorn. The matchmaking algorithm is no where near the smarts it needs to be.

I have to say threads like this shock me to some degree. They shock me because I don’t understand how in 2015 people still don’t grasp the very simple concept of math, numbers, player base.

LoL has good matchmaking because they have millions of players to pull from. Smite’s matchmaking has gotten better this year as their player base has become quite large.

Now you expect great matchmaking with Gw2’s relatively small player base? Do you expect the devs to pull players out of their rear regions? Should they wave a magic wand and make 200,000 people log on to pvp 24/7? Ooh I know! How about Anet enslaves a quarter million poor foreign farmers to help fluff the odds of you getting a perfect game match?

Here’s a simple diagram if you still haven’t gotten teh point.

1,000,000 players = Great matchmaking!
1,000 players = poor matchmaking.

now try using the some logic and think about this for 20 minutes.

You would be right but the matchmaking queue didn’t even try to make these type teams better! I’d understand if it was after the 2m time limit but it was literally Seconds once I hit that tpvp button.

Even if we were the only players available, it still should have waited for better matched players.

First game of the day, full pugs vs a 3+2 team (I lost)
(Right clicking showed they were all solo on my team)
(Right clicking enemy showed they were a 3+2 team)
Lets just pretend they were waiting super long queue times = poor match making…

Nope please don’t!

  1. Improve matchmaking.
  2. Revise leaderboards. Players who started the season late needs a chance.
  3. Compared to other mmos, this game is already ridiculously balanced with the exception of a couple minor builds.
  4. Fix minor bugs like teleport not teleporting and character pvp UI design like engi displaying their kits.
    Showing passive condi removal procs like signet of resolve, maybe a little quick gimmicky glow effect similar to light aura (maybe turn it blue?)
    Same for other passive effects that are otherwise “luck” because we can’t strategically know otherwise.

Everything else is fine.

Really? Going 80-0 is easy, im sorry i solo que alot and ive played against some of those players and in the new system came close to giving them a loss but im surprised that someone could go 80-0 and your sitting here going easy.

There was a few times i got a full 5 of friends to play and though were not elite we went about 8-2. Were all pretty good players but we lost 1 game to poor rotations cause we dont t.s and 1 the other team was just better. This guy went 80-0 and your just like easy. Im a bit surprised, if you tell me you have 4 other friends who will play ranked games with you and you say we can go 80-0 easy. Lol im sorry i just get the feeling you guys are being a little jaded and just getting mad over the new pvp system. Seriously 80-0 easy?

not to mention team comp, strategy and just general selective of good players

there are so pro gamers out there who spend a lot of time to form their parties
it’s not suprising for them to do so well

Ts makes communication easier = better rotations. That said I’ve been in premades where we weren’t on ts. Even the pubs thought we were because our rotations were that good.
Lately I’ve been forming spvp groups if the pug team was good enough. You can tell which ones actually reads the map.

I’m not saying that ts is bad or isn’t needed. But if you having a person in the group calling the shots, that limits a player on his abilities. I’ve been in numerous ts groups where they wanted me to play a certain role, or told me to be in a certain place but I wanted to go else where.
It did more harm than good.
Ts can be just as hurtful to a team

Low rank getting matched up with high ranks

After hearing the news of the new sPvP systems going into place, me and a few friends have been trying out sPvP. We are not what you call “pros” in any sense of the word. Many of us play WvW, but only two of us actually have any bit of sPvP under their belt. Me with 24 and a friend who is a few levels higher. I would say our average rank would be about 15-20…

Even though, we are continually matched with rank 50-80 organized and skilled teams. Obviously we didn’t stand a chance. Right now our group has been at about a >5% win rate. with about 3-10 matches per day.

Please Anet, Revert back to the old system or get this new one fixed, because at current it is impossible to play any sPvP games with my friends without us being heavily outclassed.

The main issue with mmr and tpvp + solo pvp is this.

Player does spvp all day to farm rank points. If he keeps getting facerolled and barely hits 200 points, that lowers his mmr. Then when he plays with his team, the average mmr is actually lower than what it really is. Others could In fact be losing spvp games too, reducing team mmr further.

Secondly, depending on time of day, there simply aren’t enough tpvp players to vs other tpvp players. There’s so many spvp players that after a premade waits 2min+ queu, it starts picking players from the spvp group to make a decent enough mmr team.

Thirdly, a group of 2s and 3s (should) supercede spvp players. Even if these 2s -3s team have low mmr. Then, because it needs a filler you come in because you had mmr that averaged out the team.
Or
You playing with your friends, are the only 2s – 3s team at the time. If so, pray that matchmaking picks high mmr solo players against a premade.

It isn’t “easy”. Maybe to people who’ve won tournaments and are used to playing against top tier teams and still manages to stay on top. Still, “easy” isn’t the word I would use.
Possible, yes. Especially if they never played against higher tier teams. Or they’ve never solo que to farm rank points. Or they only played 1 game a week to prevent playing higher tier teams.

If it was easy numerous more people would have 0 losses.

I agree with OP in that improving game mechanics improves overall game quality. Example “luck” passives on guard is the sigil and trait that removes conditions every 10 seconds.
There is no way of knowing when this will ever happen at any time. These definitely needs some type of effect just like spirit bow.

Flashing Blade and Justice Intervention are NOT Teleports.
If you look up Shadow Step mechanic it states no obstacles can be in the way when shadow stepping in that area.

All “teleport” skills needs a revamp asap… it’s incredibly frustrating!

Whirling Wrath + Justice Intervention. Follow up with Mace’s aoe crits.

[Tpvp] Burn Build Utilizing Rabids?

So in spite a previous post of mine where I said Rabid being inferior to Carrion, I’m still using it… with a slightly tweaked build this time.

The purpose was maximizing Rune of Krait… what I came up with isn’t as bad as it looks.

TPvP Performances
Between Contemplation of Purity and VoR, condi pressure hasn’t been an issue. In tpvp the burn build (like others) still performs the way it should, able to 1v2 on occasion, 1v1 high sustain classes like d/d eles, bunk guards (even though they can takes forever), etc. Even though it’s a 5k health difference compared to Carrion, the build is more sustain against raw damage classes = more time to proc conditions… in theory.

For Tpvp, because of Absolute Resolution and Torch cleanses, it actually offers more utilities than regular medi zerk guards with the exception of Binding Blade’s cc abilities. I find myself in zergs (3v3/4v4) more often, cleansing (allies) 10 conditions with torch and (everyone) 3-6 with Virtues.
The torch’s 15s cd cleanses more than a shout build utilizing Pure of Voice + Soldier runes. Granted, it’s 400 range instead of 600 and lacking stability or other boon buffs, but still a very fair comparison.

Compared to sigil of doom, the bleed procs have been favorable in situations where conditions are cleansed right away. I’m able to apply a bleed in a couple seconds as oppose to waiting 10s for another condition to proc. Best case scenario is procing 2 stacks of bleeds in 4s – 8 stacks of bleeds in 10s.

Build’s Damage Differences
Rabids non crit raw damage is a decrease of about 30% to 35%, compared to Carrion.
Rabids crits damage themselves are about the base damage of Carrions.
However, once you have an additional 3-4 stacks of might from Empowering Might which is an increase of 105-140 power/condi, your crit damage is slightly higher than Carrion’s raw damage.

Lost From Main Build
About 20-25% raw damage
15% fire damage (due to not having Amplified Wrath)
30% condition duration (really doesn’t effect burns unless you proc burning consecutively, it helps with bleed/poison sigil durations)

Gained
Reduced melee damage by (i think?) -20%
Retaliation damage
Higher sustain condi damage with bleeds.
Team condi cleanses w/ Absolute Resolution
Team 2-3 might stacks w/ Empower and 3-6 from inspired Virtue.
2800 aegis heals (not counting first initial aegis)
930 regen gained in 5s (virtue of resolve)
460 dodge roll rotation
240 extra heals with full medi rotations (smite condition twice)
30 additional health per second heals (virtue of resolve)

That alone is 4,460 additional heals… it’s safe to say this build is a higher sustain.

TL/DR
Rabid’s Build offers higher sustain + bigger team support utilities. The performances seem to be equal to the Carrion Build, with Carrion offering a quicker (not too noticeable) burst.
I could easily run this build with Carrion and take Pure of Hear instead of Empowering Might…. but then I’d be force to eat 6k+ back stabs and 10k necro Well/bursts.

When dueling it literally felt like I was using celestials when I fought a d/d ele.
90% of their damage comes from melee while everything else is easily cleansible = they hit for less.

I’m going to duel with it more and see if it’s indeed on the same level as 6/X/6/X/X Carrion doom sigils build.

Like an ele’s attunement, it’s shown at all times, which ever one they happen to be on. The same needs to apply to engineers when they’re using a kit. Their rotation isn’t as predictable as Ele’s or guardians.

I was doing more Rabid Amulet vs Carrion Amulet testing.

I attacked the Guardian NPC in hotm, using a stop watch and starting it at first hit.
For Rabid the fight lasts for about 12-13 seconds. Carrion the fight lasts 12-14s
Give or take a second per amulet, I still expected Rabid to last noticeably longer but the two amulets did virtually the same performances. Even IF Rabid got luckier crit damage from the Guardian NPC, skewing up the results, the amulet’s performance compared to Carrion was still terrible.

I think Anet expected Rabid to proc things like Vigor… which could explain the poor defense to toughness ratio… even if that was the case and you spec’d for higher vigor uptime you’d still have poor defenses against condis.

Higher health pool = better condi resistance making Carrion a sure winner.

I applaud both of yall. The main thing being tested here is how rune of krait is being maximized. My question is this: would replacing doom with sigil of earth and using Rabid yield higher damage sustain? The bleed procs may make up the damage lost from Carrion’s power.

Assuming you’re using build 62600, rune of krait and rabids, you’re sitting at 40% crit rate @ a 60% chance of procing sigil of earth. Simple math tells me that’s a 20% chance of procing bleed wich looks really bad. BUT…
-Cleansing flame (x10 hits)
-Zealot’s defense (x8 hits)
-Smite (x16 hits)
You’re looking at a consistent 3 stacks of bleeds with a high burst potential of 8+ stacks w/ rune of krait + geomancy = 824 damage (or more) per tick.

Assuming uncleansed:
Poison can do 205 damage for 7s = roughly 1435 damage with a nice -33% heal debuff.
A stack of 3 bleeds does 315 damage lasting for 8s = 2520

Thoughts?

rabid will put your hp to 10k which is way too low against any condi spec (engi/ranger/cele ele) so even with 3k armor it will be hard for you to say around doing dmg

krait again proc every 72 sec while flame runes give you 7% more dmg and burning proc thus making better choise (for me)

so far had much success in tpvp in any 1v1 and sometime 1v2 as i manage to down 1 or 2 if they used all their cleanse and even if i get down my team can stomp fast enoughf

Rabid vs Carrion performances
I’ve been using rabids + sigil of earth. Performance wise, I don’t notice a huge difference. As expected, melee damage is reduced to about 20%. Turns a normal 6k backstab to about 4800 damage.
I do like the fact that I can heal to full health when all medi’s are used but 10,905 health is still very ridiculous… but for now i’ll continue to use it and test the amulet.

Most condi builds can 1v1 and 1v2 easily. Flame Legion would make a difference if you had a build with higher burn proc rate + 100% burn duration. The duration increase is about 4 to 5s, assuming they take the full duration of Justice Intervention, Virtue of Justice and Purging Flames. If they take these full burn durations, then they will also take rune of krait’s full duration.
TL/DR
The performance difference between these runes are actually very small, with Flame Legion almost always being a better amulet if you’re trying to reach 100% burn duration.

The que isn’t resetting / disengaging like its suppose to. The only plus side is you can que then join a custome game and have it pop while dueling.
Which they’ll of course remove that fun aspect because it’s Anet.

These are all valid concerns.

On paper, the patch was the most significant improvement to PvP that has been seen since Tournament Tickets were overthrown.

It hasn’t lived up to the theorycraft in any way. The multiple matchmaking fields that were added (Profession MMR, balanced # of professions, balanced number of premade vs. solo queuers) aren’t working as intended (or at all?)

The solo queue playstyle experience took significant steps backwards. Without these crucial matchmaking fields working properly, it’s just suicide to solo queue into ranked as an intermediate to high MMR player.

There’s not been any communication from Anet as to why the ranked tPvP experience is not living up to the pre-set expectations, maybe there will be talk on that soon.

Without being overly emotional or exaggerating, I wouldn’t be opposed to a full roll-back of the matchmaking & separate queues for Solo and Team queues. The map vote system is great though, props to whoever made that happen..

The devs stated themselves that a roll back will not occur unless things continue to be bad for 6 months/year. Currently there’s plenty of room for improvements; things will change after every season when they view the data.

When they look at the leaderboards I hope they know it’s gone south. If they give it a thumbs up I would cry and punch babies.

The Celestial Meta - It hurts.

You’re all pointing fingers at the celestial amulet when it CAN’T be used for every class. Guardians/thiefs/mesmers/rangers Suck with celestial amulet while engis/eles/warriors excels with them.

Stop talking about the amulet. Talk about what these “op” classes have in common and why…

Just because something can’t be used for every class, doesn’t mean it isn’t too strong. That’s like saying… “Oh not every class can use Dhuumfire, therefore necros aren’t OP.” Same for Spirits, Hambow, Double Shatter, Double blasting Evasive Arcana, etc.

The amulet, combined with the runes and sigils is exactly what makes these professions OP in the current state of the meta. Both Engineer and Ele utilize these stats to the maximum potential, where as other class are falling short. If you want to run a hybrid/bruiser build, then good on you. But, a bruiser build shouldn’t reap the damage it does, as well as the sustain.

That was a poor response using class specific traits not open to all classes or specs… I see it two ways no one wants to play the counters because they are not conquest meta,are afraid of TDM,most of you play zerker but conquest forces you to tank AoE which both those specs has. See the issue there even I rarely lose when using a condi spec vs them because I refuse to focus on melee damage without being tanky and it is a usable weakness I rather have glass ranged like s/f ele or a good power ranger that won’t take the AoE. Sure I am not on point but why am I 1v1 him if I’m not going to cap it’s a team match not a forbidden duel.

Before celestial it’s you, your mentality and spec you are probably glass trying to stay on point vs a AoE semi-tank….dumb I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing change about them . Reintroduced the corruption necro and fix their team sustain as well as other boon hate specs. Uses your tools and brain no need to dumb down a mistake so many of you made.

Again poor response…..

No one would complain about guardian spirit weapons if they lasted as long as engi turrets… the turrets health is way too long for the amount of sustain and aoe cc that the Engi + turret can do. imo

After all that time I pointed out how ruin of the krait was less than optimal, I am going to post a build that utilizes it.

Build Structure

  • Amplified Wrath opens the door to superior burning over every other class in the game without overly heavy investment into condition damage, this will make your burn ticks happen before anyone else
  • While down Zeal and taking burning traits, augment direct damage more by 10% with Fiery Wrath
  • Further augment direct damage with either Zealous Blade or Scepter of power….or compromise and pick Binding Jeopardy (this will allow both GS and Sc to do 8% more damage on either weapon after burst setup)

The above choices led me to take Scepter and Greatsword after traiting down Zeal so heavy.

  • Poison provides a protective layer that prevents targets from healing up after your burst.
  • Bleeding acts as a buffer for cleanses as well as augments burning damage by an extra 300 per tick

The above 2 things combined with the standard whirlwind burst from GS prompted sigils of geomancy and doom on the GS when swapping for a burst kill.

  • Scepter is a “ranged” weapon, so on swap aoe sigils are less than optimal
  • Vulnerability is inherent in the weapon as well as direct damage
  • Auto attack is about one hit every second, so low cooldown runes synergize well with the attacks
  • Continued condition damage from burning and bleeding provide pressure between bursts

The above choices led me to take Sigils of Fraility to further establish direct damage burst setup and Earth to help buffer condition damage pressure. I may opt for Sigil of Strength to increase condition AND direct damage instead.

  • Bleeding is now a heavy part of the build and I want to maximize stacks and uptime

This sole choice encouraged me to actually take Rune of the Krait after talking negative about it in another post. This is the highest bleed duration increase available with 45% duration to bleeding. Also provides some damage on elite with torment/poison…meh?


Gear and Build

After that everything else fell into place. Meditations are the best self reliant heals available to a dps oriented guard. The build is also still focusing on direct damage with heavy stacks of vulnerability and power orientation. So furthering damage multipliers I took focus and 2 into radiance for more vulnerability on blinds.

Since conditions are now a part of the build I opted for Rampager over Carrion or Rabid.

Carrion and Rabid are pure condition damage amulets and they both lack one attribute or the other that we will need to focus on direct damage. One has power and vitality but no precision, this increases survival but leads to weaker condition application without crits and less direct damage.

The other has precision, but no power or vitality, lower survival and direct damage, but more condition application.

Rampager is a true hybrid amulet that provides direct damage, conditions, and survival. All at lesser amounts but the guardian has conditions built into every build (burning). Also they lack vitality, so this needs to be gained somewhere. Lastly this amulet still allows you to crit and increase direct damage with precision and power.


Damage and Rotations

The build will maintain 3 stacks of bleeds and can ramp up to 6 stacks on weapon swaps. (267 and 534)

Burning is available on demand with JI and/or VoJ active or passive. (744)

Poison is simply there as an anti heal after burst condition, but it still provides some damage. (177)

typical condition damage per second totals up to 1188-1455 damage a second.

WW will only provide an average damage of 3157 damage every 10 second
Combined with Smite doing about 3054 damage every 5 seconds.

On an immobilize burst setup, you should achieve about 6000 damage in direct damage, followed up with the 1188-1455 condition damage trailing after. That should kill a target with 18000 life in about 10 seconds after initial burst, assuming full at start.

After burst, swap back to scepter and ranged/kite targets. This will keep you out of necro wells, engie turrets, elementalist ground fire effects, mesmer boon corruption/condition appliers…and just in general bad things on the ground.

When ready to burst set up with immoblize/blind/SoW, then swap to gs and spin to win.

Long explaination, but try it out and let me know how it feels.

I question Focused Mind instead of Defender’s Flame. You essentially lose about 8 burn blocks or almost 6k burn damage, not counting shelter.
But ill try the build later when I have time

What is guards op/ most complained about

We sometimes counter thieves, rangers and some eles and mesmers if they’re not meta.. I’ve seen their class forums; some of them call us op..which is far from the truth. You’d be surprised how often the thread “trouble with med guards” comes up. One of which was in an ele forum! In short, we dominate pretty much any glassy class but struggle with the higher sustain – meta builds.

And yes, people QQ about condi guards too… I’m not talking about top tier matches but the overall matchup vs condi guards. If you’re caught in a 1v1 vs them, you better hope some one shows up to help. Going soloq that’s almost a never.
