What about 1 handed mace with longer and larget symbols if you have like 10 – 12 stacks of might? You drop 2 symbols the 1h mace and the GS one and your GS #2 … At least this works againts most engineer for me but maybe againts very skilled engineer This is impossible?

Not against skilled engineers where they are constantly kiting and CCing you. Whether you can eventually take them out or not is irrelevant being it’s just too time consuming. Either you do after 70s or you’ll eventually get 2v1’d. Most bunks have a dedicated peeler for additional support.
Strategies involve leaving their bunkers on what ever point they’re on, if you know they are heavy in team support such as bunk guardians and turret engis.
That is, assuming you’re fighting fire with fire and losing.

Some teams fail to change up their strategy, doing the same mistakes over and over. It’s usually around 300 points until they realize to do something different.

Basically, your ladder positions would be the sum of every points (-3 – +3) you can gain in a match?

Correct.

Just to clarify, that counts for each individual person instead of that team as a whole? For example, GuardianBob’s odds of victory could be 0-19% while his partner MesmerJoe could be 20-39%. Or are both player’s odds of victory the same?

My main issue with sword is the #2 skill hit not being instant. When entering battle with flashing blade, you have to wait a second for a strike Then switch to trigger in battle state. Certain sigils will not proc otherwise and it’s a Huge pain.
I think the scepter, which mainly does single target damage, should do more DPS than any 1 hand weapon. The sword was always meant to be a hybrid, single target dps or group fight weapon.

Funny thing you mention that. I looked at other ranged weapons from other professions and the rifle from Engineer, long bow from Warrior and Ranger hits as hard if not harder and pretty much never misses. Funny that.

Yea it’s not nice. Scepter auto being already slow and easy to dodge, should get a damage buff imo. I’m thinking 100 more damage on top of it’s base. That’ll be an additional 250’sh damage on crits (I think, I’m terrible at theory crafting)

Anyone tired of the, “which build best counters yours” pregame we all go through before a match?

I applaud the top teams who are able to decipher which Build > Build and making it work overall for their team, or which class they should bring because of X comp..but it feels repetitive every single game. Hence all the metas everyone are using; the builds that do better in a variety of scenarios but still weaknesses in others. Then they complain about a certain build doing better then theirs.

Most noticeably medi guards. No matter which build you have, you almost always have to spend 4 in Virtues against any heavy condition user/team. You will not trait for something else. Ever. Because everything else is inferior no matter which way you look at it. That’s the issue with most of the guardian (and other classes) traits and skills.
In most cases Zerk Medi is ‘The’ way to go in all dps zerk builds.

TL/DR: The minigame before a match is becoming frustrating.

Apparently Anet changed it so that you have to have exactly 100% increase burn duration for burn to proc twice… ridiculous nerf.

The tooltip needs to be fixed; people who think they’re getting 2procs at 2s burn may not be…

its literally always been that you need a full 100% duration increase to make 1s into 2s lol. look at the burn guardian guides on this subforum that are like years old.

Maybe a year, but not years.

The last entry about condition duration was April 2013. The patch that changed burn duration could have been months later. Those “years” old posts were edited to reflect the update. Either ways, I was not aware of the nerf.

So I’ve noticed that 1 3/4 burn tick no longer rounds up to 2 seconds of burning like before.
However, my burn duration on virtue of justice’s passive is at 2s but I’m still only getting one tick from burn condition…

Symbol on hammer is staying though because of the bad guardian symbol traits that Anet put in place for it.

They could move kindled zeal to the radiance line & into the place of radiant retaliation (which face it should be a base effect for everyone if your condition damage is more then 2/3 your power)
They could then adjust the scaling.

I like that idea alot. I don’t notice a significant difference with Radiant Retaliation at all…
198 + (0.075 * Power)
198 + (0.15 * Condition Damage)
Probably because we will always have a lot more base power than condition so the scaling seems off.

Superior Sigil of Intelligence

Hi all, ive been reading that this sigil used to not work properly. Ive been thinking of putting a sigil of intelligence and sigil of Energy in my weapons to guarantee 3 crits (both for damage purposes and to proc vigorous precision).

Will this work? Is the intelligence sigil bugged and also can i use two “on swap” sigils at the same time?

Was looking at the healway build and generally the crit chance is really bad in all cleric gear so thought having the intelligence sigils can fix that.

It isn’t bugged from what I understand. But if you just want endurance, just use Sigil of Energy to automatically gain 50% endurance instead. Vigor only lasts for 5s with an icd of 10s. Unless of course you plan on using both :p

If you have fury for your meditations, i reccomend rune of the citadel for max fury uptime. Sigil of Rage is insane on the GS bursts and it’ll pop twice before you go down. (Justice Intervention in a group + whirl)

I’ve seen over 1 minute fury uptime with citadel.

Kindred Zeal should have been: Condition Damage is based off of Power.

Guardians start off with a base power of 926, making our condition power 2200+ compared to the normal 1200 margin with Carrions. Every condition build would be Zerkers.

I imagine that first Offensive build is more of a roamer 1v1. If you want that instant 3x team cleanse you could also go 0/4/6/0/4 w/ rune of the citadel for max fury uptime. Switch scepter for GS for more aoe damage output.
That’s mainly if you’re in group fights and wanted to be more team oriented.

We just gained 5-10k damage in 20 seconds. Not to mention those stack intensly. Thieves wouldn’t stand a chance and any poor condition build just got OP.

I don’t want the guardian to have mesmer-like conditions anyways. Just buff up some of our very poor traits and I’ll be happy.

I’ve always felt the grandmaster Permeating Wrath from Virtues fell short, literally. It’s range needs to be a whole lot higher than 240 for me to like it.

What would be curious is if the range was huge, like using scepter and causing aoe burns from a distance. OR changing the trait where the target that is burning effects his surrounding targets as well. The tick can be similar to the torch skill#4.

That would be cool!

I’ve messaged the people who utterly beat me in 1v1 duels, if they use that build in tpvp and almost all of them say no. It’s the reason I can beat most classes 1v1 in tpvp…including d/d celes ele’s, crate engi’s and mesmers…They all just spec differently in tpvp, or they use different classes all together.

Med Guard is pretty much useless in teams. (It’s actually worse than useless in that it needs escorting and doesn’t bring anything to justify it)

I made a guardian exclusive guild. Our 5man guardian team are currently 8 and 2. Last 3 games we all went zerk medi and it was kitten fun!

Making A Better Ranking System.

INTRO
Making soloQ a more individual rating system takes some ingenuity but it Can be done, and lots better than doing 800 games that may or may not represent your actual rating as that ranked player.

ROUGH DRAFT (Very, very, rough…)
Time: internal clock on all players. When you’re out of the map via lost connection, disconnect, etc, it counts against you, cummilativly, as the game goes on. (removing credits)

Afk: Unless on a node, standing still for 30s-kitten counts as an afk, or, being reported (votes against you) counts as a disconnect.

Revamp “Node Defender”: Bunker will generally have less credits than mobile players. Your skill level on a node will not be tested until engaged, therefore there should be a cummilative amount of points you’ll receive when you haven’t received a kill in awhile or team support credits. Maybe a “Node Defender” time tick every 20 seconds giving you 5 credits while not engaged on a node. Acquiring credits from nodes, kills, etc, remain the same.

That, more or less, solves players who are stationary on home or far but not in battle where skill is measured most..

-Measure the amount of damage player outputs throughout the game.
(team retaliation, reflects, conditions, raw damage, AI’s damage)
-Damage Negated: blocked, absorbed, blinded (total amount of damage negated for your team)
-Total amount healed in game and Team heals (supports)
-Support Stats (continued) Conditions removed from players. Amount of overall team heals. Total amount of damage negated through blinds, aegis/blocks, etc.

Boons: These are measured by boons you have given. Because getting the right boons at the right time are game changing events.
-Giving partner stealth/stability/aegis while he stomps gives you an assist.

-Stability: If either player’s stability is up while any impairment ability happens, they’ll get credit.
-Might: Goes with total damage dealt. Players who give might should receive the % of the damage they added to all players they effect.
Reason: Bunk Guardians might stacking players will receive that support bonus.
-Vulnerability: Receive credit from % of damage added to vulnerable target. (or % of damage given due to the number of ‘vulnerables’ you added to target.
-Fury: Receive credit from players making critical hits while your fury duration is up.
-Protection: Receive credit for preventing X amount of damage while your protection boon is up.
-Regeneration: Receive credit for total amount of heals done by your boon.
-Retaliation: Receive credit for amount of damage done per person with your retaliation. Gain credit for each damage dealt in this way.
-Swiftness: Effects overall gameplay. Reaching a node, enemy, etc. 1 credit per 5s of duration you applied.
-Vigor: Goes with damage negated. Offering team vigor; you recieve credit for each 5s vigor applied.

Conditions
-Credit per condition applied by you; if your condition’s damage is the one ticking. Your condition may or may not be the strongest out of the stack applied.
-Duration: You’ll receive credit for the amount of damage you have done.

End game statistics
-Calculate top bunker: Total damage negated + total heals + most damage received + Node Defender points
-Calculate best supporter: Highest credits via boons given + team heals + kill assists from your stability/aegis/stealth.
-Calculate best overall damage dealt: Raw damage + condition damage + retaliation + AI’s, etc, etc.

Tl/DR
Again this is a big rough draft but if the above is calculated well, MMR will be based on in-game performance rather than wins.
Edited: The rank points can still be governed by wins based on odds and score reached.

It will be interesting to see if not streaming will help or hurt (less event publicity) the amount of teams that show up.

Most users, or casual players, can’t stream or do all of that ‘twitch’ stuff. I bet 60% can’t actually.

I feel we’re changing the guardian “class” rather than the “guardian” profession if we were to further change our traits to conditions.
What we can gain are the better traits that no one are using such as:
-Signets
-Chill
-Vulnerability (even though mesmers can already stack 25)
-Aegis (It blocks. That’s it. Nothing special)
-I feel Permeating Wrath’s range should be bigger
-Oh we’re in Virtues for just Absolute Resolution?(condition cleanse)

Well it makes sense in that placing burn traits in a condition tree would make us inbalanced. So i understand why they mix and match traits the way they do. It promotes different builds as well.

What gets me, is why put an overall condition trait when the only condition we offer is burns? I have found no usage for Kindled Zeal when Amplified Wrath is 5x better for a Guardian when we burn on every 5th (or 3rd) hit.

The only time Kindled Zeal overtakes Amplified Wrath is if you use a condi signet, Rune of krait, doom and geomancy. Only by using all of those together will you see a better damage output in said 9 seconds of applied condition damage vs 9 seconds of applied burns.

Make Guardians Chill be effected by power And condition damage. Maybe we’ll see different power/condi hammer builds similar to a warrior’s hambow build.

In short they are very aware of the issues revolving around soloQ’s ranking and team placements prior to the match. I really hope it improves because soloQ IS declining because users who invest a great deal of time are not partaking as much.

Teleportation is Broken

It’s a bug. Has to be. It’s a teleport for crying out loud. Maybe not a big deal in pve or wvw for that matter but in time sensitive situation in the spvp and tpvp world it makes a HUGE deal. Especially for a Guardian like myself where every single skill counts or it’s game over.

I’ve must have played nearly 13 tpvp games today (gone from 97% to 371 mind you) and found numerous locations where the teleport simply did not want to work.

-Does not work if a player is x amount of feet above or below ground And behind certain objects.
Example: Temple of the Silent Storm; if a ranger is on the upper part in front of Gate (middle) sniping away, the guardian cannot teleport when you’re at either sides of the rock or directly below him.
(Teleport works under Battle of Kyhlo’s middle, you can teleport right through the middle-house floor…or at a window beneath it. Huge for the guardian. Also directly at Keep’s middle on Forest of Nifhel instead of taking the stairs up)

Still like to mention the panels from Spirit Hammer, you can’t teleport when they bust under you. That is still worth mentioning as dying from that glitch is a huge bummer.

In all honesty they should have made Kindled Zeal + Perfect Inscriptions synergize better together. Along with Signet of Wrath and Bane Signet.

I like the fact that Anet wants us to have more than one way to make the same build, but some builds just trumps others when trying to do the same thing.

Isn’t that mainly the case when there simply aren’t any closely ranked people waiting in queue?

One could of course question if people would rather have to wait for 10+ minutes in order to even start a match?

The two teams in the screen shot could have been split up evenly on both sides, but for some reason aren’t. Not sure if that’s because of the number of games each player has played, or if there is a phantom rank that takes into account as well. Either ways, everyone who plays YoloQ religiously knows that the rank is no where near the competitiveness of most MMO’s. where skill is measured.

That and strategies are hardly ever talked about. No one shows up a minute before game starts and talk strategies. SoloQ should automatically draft players from each team after 20-30 seconds, imo

I love all the meditation guard OP comments. Must be why they run rampant in teamQ. Oh wait…

A Med Guardian can not bring a decent Ele’s health below 50% so not sure how they are OP.

A good guard can, actually. In fact i’ve seen “good” Ele’s fall to guards. That said, top tier tpvp is an entirely different playing field where there’s going to be different builds from both classes and not every guard and ele are going to be 1v1 oriented.

Because people just like to complain, this is one of the most balanced MMOs around. Sure some things need adjusting but balance is good atm. Also lots of players have issue with passive skills/traits more so than actually balance.

Oh, I agree. I do find it quite balanced.

But that is most likely due to the strict focus on balancing it around 5 people.
Adding 2v2 or 3v3 would either mean that it would be quite unbalanced in those modes or that they would try to balance around that as well, and due to that making the balancing worse overall.

People simply don’t seem to realize that adding more variables (such as new modes, new skills, new professions) does make balancing harder ^^

If that’s the case then how does “balance” seem to level out the more players you have in a game? The main issue is that there are so many class varieties and counter balances you can have on one team. Prematch you can not only pick a different class, but change that classes traits and equipment (amulet) prior to the start of the match…for 1v1 why not do the same. Or best out of three rounds. Or make a 1v1 mini arena with three nodes on the map. Or just 3v3 arena.

I feel there are 20 ways to make this work where everything is just as balanced as a 5v5 matchup. Because I personally wouldn’t mind going condi guard with a conjuring Ele as my ptner and being able to use his icebow for a change. I feel a lot of team synergies are not being fully utilized here.

Support doesn't work as a profession concept.

What I think Obtena is saying is that because the Guardian is supposed to play support (as is: mainly using your skills to increase the effectiveness of other players) anything that isn’t specifically for supporting other players or can be gotten through other players (since to support we need to be coordinating with others) can’t be considered a weakness. For example: Guardian’s don’t need a reliable way to keep enemies close, because their allies can provide that.

And don’t get me wrong, I love support and it’s why I started to play a Guardian during beta, but I don’t think support should be the only focus for the Guardian.

The first, and most obvious, reason is that for a good chunk of content, you can’t rely on other players. A lot of players like simply exploring Tyria and doing solo WvW, and even with events or small, unorganized, roaming parties (or unorganized PvP) you can’t comfortably rely on the skills and moveset of other players. And by now leveling a character is also mostly a lonely activity. By mandating that Guardians need other players nearby to be effective, you shut down a good part of the content or at least make it a lot more fun. So while I don’t think the game should be balanced around some things in this category (solo roaming, hotjoin…), I do think it’s important that Guardians have the same level of access to others (exploring, leveling…).

Secondly, some of our skills go blatantly against the idea that we’re only supposed to do support. Meditations, most Signets, and most Spirit Weapons are examples from our utilities and Sword, Scepter, Greatsword, and arguably the Hammer are examples in our weapon selection. If we are indeed supposed to only do support these weapons are in need of some serious changes.

Similarly, our traits aren’t all about helping allies either. We’ve got plenty of “selfish” traits that only help our own (solo) effectiveness. And with the way traits are set up in GW2 it’s almost impossible to design a profession for a single role.

And finally: Designing a profession to suit a singular role is just a horrible idea. I’m not going to bore you with the details of my previous MMO experience, but World of Warcraft used to try that with Priests. Nobody was okay with it then, nobody should be okay with it now.

Being the Guardian class, we automatically bring support rolls to the table, whether guardians like that concept or not. I WILL bring Absolute Resolution because some classes simply have very poor condition cleanses. Same for Resolute Healer for high sustain medi celestial builds.

Spirit Weapons helps more in Pve than pvp. They take forever to cast in competitive play (should be instant imo), disregard that they get burned down in groups all too easily, the spirit hammer and sword are mainly 1v1 roaming skills.

I agree that Guardian support shouldn’t ever be the focus. But if you’re a pure dps guard, even if you’re medi, warriors still do it better. For the simple fact that they can peel off of you Easily and be elsewhere in half a second.

Most guards need to realize what they bring to the table; something more team oriented instead, of a +5% damage trait, can make the difference between you and that warrior.

I’m going to go back to my original argument that while the Guardian can support very well, that’s all he/she can do which is fine. It’s balanced that way. However, you’re now introducing specs for certain classes that can sustain themselves better, provide similar support and still have dmg output. This is where i’m having an issue.

Are you also saying that thief, necro and ranger’s aren’t needed as well?

The wiki shows there are 10 ranks listed… but for my guildies I only see two. Leader and Officer. Is there something I have to unlock?

Well let me explain my position and you can offer a rebuttal. We all know DPS Guardian hasn’t seen the light of day in top-tier play due to a multitude of factors. Lack of:

Reliable dmg
Mobility
Controlling conditions
Less than average sustain with said dps builds.

And now i’ll explain why the Bunker Guardian is going to see the way of the dinosaurs. The one and most important thing a Guardian brings to a fight is the ability to revive far better than any other class. Why not just bring a Cele that not only sustains better but is more mobile and actually applies offensive pressure?

Edit: but it just makes absolutely no sense. What thought-process was involved when making the Guardian? Here’s a melee-centric class that can’t run, can’t control and has low health.

Edit again: If the whole point was to make a class “stand its ground” in a VERY mobile game, then that’s just terrible class design.

Im telling you guardians are thives with no venom, lower damage, no stealth, no ranged weapon. But we do get an average 1 block every 10 seconds or so…. Thou this thread was more oriented to WVW which is where move speed actually matters.

The QQ in this thread is real. I can say the same to other classes that can’t sustain themselves, team cleanse and team stability. We’re still one of the faster reviving classes (disregarding instant revive sigil) in the game. Exactly what would you change, to whats already the most balanced class out there, and that wont turn us OP in our Zerk, Carrion, Bunk or Sustain Builds?

Same here! I’ve been in two 4 man guard teams with a Necro or Ranger as a +1. Both games we did extremely well. Most notably the first game where we went 500 to 64 oO. Like to have more of those lol.

Flashing Blade and Justice Intervention does not teleport as intended when you’re not in line of site.

There are game’s out there that is a whole lot worse than gw2. Look at the top most played, competitive esports games for example. This game really isn’t all that bad. In a free roaming game like wvw or the more competitive spvp/tpvp, there’s going to be toxicity at every corner. It’s to be expected actually. Report them for “verbal abuse”, block them in chat and move on.

This is especially true when people start talking about nerfing classes they have never played and the most experience they’ve had is looking up that class’s traits and skills on the wiki.

This. The game is built on class traits beating other class traits. You have 14 points to spend to make what ever build you’d like. You better expect weaknesses to it. If your build does well against every single build, you have no weaknesses, expect a nerf.

The best teams distinguish the condition builds from the glass, from the bunks, and coordinate their players around the map. It’s why the ranking on spvp is so laughable compared to tpvp. That said, the good players know their classes’ limitations unlike most users running “meta builds”, thinking they can go head-to-head with any class and win.

But can balance be achieved if the game is fundamentally design flawed?. Its no big secret this games pvp failed miserably.

You have classes where 2/3ds of its signature skills are useless in 2/3rds of the game.

Classes static over time ground target skills in a game designed around fluid moving combat.

Gross advantage of ranged over melee in 2 out of the 3 game modes of the game.

The game is fundamentally design flawed it goes beyond simple balancing and its essentially dead pvp and wvw show it very much.

Pretty sure this game wasn’t meant to be a “fluid motion” pvp. If that was the case they would have made a continuous motion of “capture the flag” instead of “area control”. I’m quite happy in my static symbols while I have 2 thief’s on me taking retaliation damage.
That said the Ranger is OP when it comes to moving orbs. I litterally saw him somersault three time’s and moonwalk to the node in 3 seconds.

Teleportation is Broken

I usually just follow through with the leap, so I never had it done to me before. But the Guardian teleport IS broken.
Examples
-Most notably Sky hammer on either points A or C you can teleport to an enemy on the other side of the wall.
*Which is awesome but you can’t do this on most maps. In some cases you can’t teleport to some one directly above you and you can’t teleport when free falling like when the skyhammer glass panels break.
And… why not? It’s a Teleport. You should be able to Teleport when ever, how ever you see fit. As long as the targeted enemy is in range.

Before we laugh at the rediculousness of gw2 being an esport. Can we first laugh at the rediculousness of esports within itself.

Teams competing against each other in front of thousands, if not, millions of people? Sounds like a serious sport to me.

To the OP. If Anet wanted this to be considered an Esport from the get-go, it would have been. If this is their idea of it being so…well, I don’t have a lot to say.. That Aside, yes this game has the potential to be an Esports game through patches and pvp improvment. Already classes are more balanced now than before but the game has a long way to go to reach that Esport level.

For those who don’t know, movement speed effects don’t stack. If you have 25% speed increase from Travelers and pop Retreat, you’ll only have 33% speed increase. The cd reduction just means you don’t have to use Travelers if you’re using it just for speed.
