NO, no pve garbage, JUST exclusive pvp skins OR black lion tickets OR money.

Agree completely. Coming from a rank 80 Legendary player with 3k+ Rank & Unranked games under my belt, I would prefer more PvP centric rewords.

What I would like,

  • Unlocking long term armor & weapon skins that could be earned through PvP, but can’t be obtainable in PvE.
  • Adding additional titles for players who reach 3.5k, 4k, 4.5k games.
  • A “prestigue” mode to reset our Ranks back to 1, with a new emblem associated with each prestigue.
    (Again, us pvp players like to show ourselves off!)

Wish list
I would love to mix and match my Outfit Armor skins.. that would be just awesome. Be cool if we reach a certain requirement in PvP; where we’re alowed to match a single outfit with another one, assuming we already own the outfit in the store. So there’s a long term goal to unlock outfit swaps in pvp, as well as a bigger incentive to buy outfits in the store.

Just saying… if a Thief kills a Guardian, it’s not the Thief’s fault. Take that as you will.

Actually thanks to previous patch.. Guardians have a rough time with Thieves now… there’s no way Guards win vs power Thieves in 1v1. Best chance we have is an F1 pull inside ToF, which is rare considering their evade abilities…

I have no trouble killing thief with guardian.
My 2nd most is still guardian and its solid counter for thieves

What did people want? Guardians wanted a pew pew DH? Nope. Rangers wanted a healer? Nope. Warriors wanted the same thing with a different name? Nope.

Actually Guardians did want a Pew Pew weapon… it has been asked before countless times. What has also been asked for was a viable Burn build and Anet delivered that right before HoT release. Technically, Burn Guardian is where it is now because of Anet catering. If only HoT power creep didn’t kill core builds.

Not to mention that Anet (Karl) gave us the exact Shield changes that we asked for (albeit, took a while to deliver) and before HoT released we asked for a peel effect and they gave us F2 Wings of Resolve (that the community wished was better but for Guardian, it was a lot to ask for)

Can’t speak for your class, but they indeed gave us quite a few items.

What is wrong with druid?

The team comp that pulls this off efficiently is any comp with a decent mesmer and revenant which is pretty much any competitive team comp anyway. Experienced players will win the 2on1 consistently and fast enough to make it worth it.

Any class will lose to a +1 encounter. I fear the meta will be Druid + Rev + Thief because the game has less condi pressure. Thanks to Anet nerfs, these classes are stronger.

Necro and Mesmer’s bursts are laughable condi pressure classes now. Especially in a team fight.

Warriors can be effective but he needs to build up adrenaline and prey his Berserk burst skills don’t get cleansed.

Core Burn Guardian is effective against Reapers, Gyro Engis and Rangers thanks to their pets (see permeating wrath). We can have a higher burst pressure than Warriors but if our burns gets cleansed we’re vulnerable thereafter and can’t facetank like Warriors. It can be niche build unless we run with a stealthed Engi or sustain Ele to keep us up.

On paper condi bursting + CCing a Ranger is an “easy” counter but… where’s the team comp to pull this off effectively every match??

From what i’ve seen and read, the sigil is broken.

Also, anyone else experiencing “server lag”? Like, when you cast a skill during the cast time of another, it doesn’t cancel that first skill so you’re forced to wait…. heard people call it ‘server lag’ but it started right when patch hit.

For the sake of a new tournament mode, why not a 3v3 Conquest?

  • Point cap is 250 rather than 500
  • Only 1 Home and Mid point while Far point is off limits to everyone.
  • Best out of 3. The off-limit Far point switches sides each round.

I think you can lower the point cap in a Custom Arena right? I haven’t created one in a long time.

What you’re proposing is a huge barrier for players to get into. Five players of the same class for each team, then mandating their builds to make sure each are on point, is a bit complicated.

Sounds interesting but difficult for players to get going, especially when people want to use a certain build but can’t because it’s being used. I recommend setting up a 2v2 or 3v3 tournament instead.

@drgast – I’m upset because guardian get worthless buffs and hard nerfs when other classes actually get real catering. You must be one of those tower huggers that say guard is op.

It was a 20% nerf to one skill and a 7% nerf to another while 7 skills got cd buffs and 3 skills got damage buffs. Give me a break. Yeah, you’re really being punished alright.

Call it what you want but I consider it a nerf if our overall effectiveness lowered thanks to a patch.

How is “improving” impertinent skills that DH never uses and still can’t make work a “buff”? Not sure why they even mentioned it in the patch notes :/

This isn’t Call of Duty or a console game… it’s an MMORPG and most MMORPGs wont allow you to advance to the next level without buying their expansion. Oh and these MMOs generally allow you to play with other players higher than your level…

Why are people having issues with something that has always existed with this genre type?

I feel like all the changes to PvP maps have been to make them more generic, like the perfect end point is just a white plain with three capture points on it. I loved the disappearing floor in Skyhammer. I liked being able to distract the enemy team by attacking the lord in Foefire. I want the maps to be unique, and I want other mechanics to compete with vanilla conquest mechanics. Otherwise we might as well only have one conquest map. How does making all the maps the same make them “more competitive”? Do competitive players hate having to learn different things?

I feel skyhammer is very different than any of the three “competitive” maps. It’s also becoming one of my fav maps thanks to the changes. I’m liking it more than Forest of Niflhel and that’s my second fav.

I read a few comments on this thread and… well, the below quote put it quite nicely.

The problem I see in this thread is that on one side complete casuals are talking, on the other side competitive players. I see people mentioning here how they liked the knockback cheese on skyhammer while actually players like me never even had the chance to play skyhammer since it simply didn’t work for a ranked competitive game. The map was simply dysfunctional and more in the line of something like keg brawl or crab toss.

So the changes were VERY good. People like me might actually be able to play on skyhammer now.

Personally I also like spiritwatch but some people state they just dislike the general layout (well guess that is what map vote is for).

Edit: Biggest clowns here are PvE players complaining that they can no longer farm daylies on skyhammer. Really? That is a completely different level of boldness.

The best heal a non-DH Burn Guardian has. Even if you’re not burn guard, some core guardians might considering it if they feel their Shelter gets easily interrupted.

As a DH, Purification’s full heal + cc is just too good to pass up.

My initial impression was just as the forum threads read. Why the heck is our TPvP balances governed by our effectiveness in WvW?? I wish I hadn’t read that quote in the balance changes…

Things I like
We’re not so reliant on 1 skill for damages so sure, I can accept the trueshot nerf with minor buffs elsewhere. What I absolutely dissagree with is how LB#5 can be entirely negated by a single Block..

Changes We Need
Make it so that these triggered LB#5 traps are unpassable when other enemy players run through them. No One should be able to cross it once they’re up… just add a 10man knockdown cap to it like everything else.

DH vs Necro
Prepatch Guards had little issues with necros. Now, it’s a 50/50 matchup with Necros (the good ones) in favor. I like how close these dueling matches (can be) are now.

DH vs Mesmer
Same as the above. Match is 50/50 for the most part, but usually Mesmers are in favor of winning the 1v1.

DH vs War
DH is in favor but Warriors can have surprise bursts & ccs to down us. The matchup is closer balanced than prepatch.

Everything else
Thieves can kill us now in 1v1 but the matchup will last for awhile.

We’re pretty useless vs Druids.. more than ever.

Haven’t fought any revs or engis yet but the ones I have, I was able to burst them down in a 1v1. I’m sure we’ll likely never beat a good Rev though.

The only thing keeping us above water is the AoE burst damages and aoe cc we can potentially bring. As oppose to the single target bursts Revs, Druids, Thieves & Wars can offer. My biggest concern is that our conpensation buffs will mean diddly squat amongst these 4 power-houses in a team fight… DH will get downed fast and have issues landing burst attacks. Mean while other classes are better in focus target damages and can sync well in a group to achieve the same end results.

We’re more reliant on our team to pull off… well… everything, and I absolutely hate that.

What I would change in the ranking system

This doesn’t work because,

  • You would need to play a large number of games for your calculations to be anywhere near accurate, skill wise. So a single day for these calculations to finalize per player is no more than the “luck of matchmaking.”, more so than it currently is.
  • The ‘end score’ comparing averages calculations between the winning & losing team has been proposed, but falls short. The average losing score (according to Anet’s statistics) is almost always around 300 – 350 range. Not to mention that Foefire map will heavily skew the results when you get a 250+ lead on another team, making the game seem like a large point difference. Averaging a player’s end score from wins & losses hardly corellates to a player’s skill rating… there’s still no efficient way to calculate an individual’s player MMR efficiently other than what’s already in place.

Anet could make Leagues more strict but then you’ll have that “stuck in mmr hell” playerbase ever more irate for not progressing through the leagues. Then more irate for not gaining a darn thing when they actually reach the division they’re suppose to be in, again, halting progression.

Honestly, I felt the league progression was right on the money. Competitive players progressed quickly while casuals got to Diamond/Legendary towards the end of the season. I think Anet would like to keep this type of league progression. That said, something could still be done for players who stay in a certain division. Maybe something like, play 75 games to complete the current division – you earn the rewards but you don’t actually go to the next division.

Human was my first pick but changed to Norn and loved him.

Only think on a Char that I like is their wild hair dyes if you have a makeup kit.

Sylvari are my third fav because they’re armor with their skin tone can be cool to customize.

Pretty sure there’s less legendaries this season, why do you think there’s been a constant stream of ‘Stuck in Ruby/Diamond’ threads on a daily basis?

Those weren’t the majority of players. Forum complaints are always the loudest, but they’re in no way the minority unless it’s overly excessive like a 20 page thread or 10 same topic threads on the front page. There are a whole lot more players in Legendary compared to last season.

It does make you a better PvPer to play other classes, in a way that just reading about them doesn’t accomplish.

If someone was an expert at every single profession, that person would be an absolute nightmare to duel.

I disagree that a multiclass player will be that much better at dueling to, say, some one whose mained a single class for 2200+ hours and has dueled for the majority.

I’m unconvinced you’ll automatically be a better duelist if you’re already good at it. That said, anyone who isn’t a veteran duelist WILL improve himself if he multiclasses.

I agree with OP. The Legendary piece shouldn’t be a multiclass requirement as if you’re suddenly a God Duelist for doing so. Experience i.e Time Spent & Games Played should be a bigger determinant.

To confess, I sometimes deliberately play a subpar DH build because I get bored with the meta. I get yelled at for dying to a thief but express that I “don’t really care”.

April's balance patch, what to expect?

Mesmer Condi Nerf Speculation
Well, there’s talk about Mesmers receiving a nerf in their condi damages. And it’s funny… their condi build has always been OP in 1v1. Now that it’s viable in TPvP… well, it sounds like some one feels their class should beat a Mesmer. I don’t main Mesmer but i’m a bit sour if they try changing something that’s been a certain way for years.

Reapers Chill/Dmg Nerf Speculation
Theres Reaper complaints on the forums, mostly in regards to chill damages or their chill application. And talk of “Engi, Rev, Ele can’t beat him”. I suspect there’s a trend between Mesmer & Necro. I speculate there will be a slight shave in application or Chill duration. I surely hope it’s not a big nerf.

Revs Shiro/Glint Nerf Speculation
Certain aspects of Rev are simply unhealthy designs… the class could use heavy work mechanically, but odds are the Devs are not going to touch that and instead play with numbers on paper. I don’t see much of a nerf to Revs tbh.

Ele Support Nerf, Power Buff, Speculation
I think everyone would like a viable power build as oppose to the healbot that Ele are atm. Though, it’s yet to be determined exactly how Anet will buff/nerf the class.

Guard Nerf/Buff Speculation
I main DH and have no clue how Anet will buff or nerf the class. I speculate we’ll receive a slight buff in utilities while our LB dmges receives a slight nerf.

Thief Buff & Evade Rework Speculation
There was talk in a rework to Thieves Evade-Makes-Me-Tanky playstyle a while back from one of the Devs. It looks like they’ve acknowledge it was a poor mechanic but whether they’ll own up to these changes is yet to be determined.

Wars Condi/Power Brute Speculation
Like Thieves, Warriors are also struggling mechanically. No clue if there’s going to be a rework but the two classes will likely receive buffs as oppose to nerfs.

For the most part, Engi & Rangers “are in a good spot” so they’ll be nerfed & buffed based on the rework of other classes. Other than Gyro changes and pet damages that could happen, I don’t see them changing a whole lot.

The guardian’s main counters are Rev/Reaper… Just wanted to point that out. I know this is all based on your personal experience, but Reapers should dominate DHs.

You’ve got it backwards. DH counters reaper.

If the reaoer has the foresight to hold at range DH will lose.

Only met 1 Necro who could consistently beat me. But that was on side point where he used LoS to his advantage.

Haven’t met any other Reapers who could honestly say, “I have no issues with DH”. 90% of them do.

Year of Ascension (Problem)

All others work on mechanics that can be achieved by anyone. Even lesser skilled players can attain them if they play enough. Even without being a top-tier player, you can make progress by dedicating your time in the mists.

The requirement to cross division thresholds depends not on you. It depends on 20% you and 80% others (your party). This seems like an inconsistency to me that makes this much more difficult to attain.

Thoughts anyone?

I think that’s the point of the matter. If it’s too hard to achieve then players wouldn’t bother trying to achieve it. Cater to the minority.

Season almost over - final opinions?

This season is in a different league compared to last… there’s simply no comparison.

It’s also clear that balance is a bit off compared to last season. This mainly had to do with the leniency of certain classes vs certain classes – how easy it can be for a Thief or Warrior to be so effective that they throw the match. How easy it can be for Engi, Rev, Ele, Necro/Mes comp can “carry” their team thanks to their build leniency and overall ‘Build Wars 2’ gameplay.

Yes, Season 2 is better but the game is slightly imbalanced and it’s not “matchmakings” fault, its overall game balances. Sometimes what’s written on paper doesn’t translate to “easy to pull off” in TPvP.

The majority of the time, what OP said is true but it’s not necessarily what these class’s counters are… it’s how little certain classes can get countered by. Also, how much buffer room a class can have in order to prevent such a counter.

Guard vs Ele for example.

  • Guardian supposedly gets countered by Ele but these two classes can sustain against each other long enough on point to where it doesn’t usually matter. Either class can receive a +1.
  • Guardian vs Engi will never last nearly as long. Engi has too many CC’s + Reflects + Burst damages that’ll lay waste to any Guardian on point. Usually not long enough for the Guardian to receive a +1.
  • It’s true that most Necros have issues with Guardians.
    It’s also true that the exact opposite can happen. But i’m here to tell you that Necros Should beat every power Guardian… they just have to try a whole lot harder than a Guardian to the point that there’s little room for error. I’m talking about playing 100% correctly. The majority of Necros in TPvP will lose to a Guardian simply because it’s a whole lot harder for them, they’re using the wrong build or the better Guardian players are using the correct builds. A mixture of different variables.

This isn’t the case for Guardian vs Revs, Engi’s or Rangers. Guardians Should 100% lose against these classes 1v1 every time.

Balance in this game is close, but it’s not there yet. Anet absolutely needs to know how meta builds fair in a team vs team environment as well as they fair in the 1v1 perspective when it comes to side nodes. If Devs main each and every class, they would see what areas needs strengthening on a per class basis.

Biggest issue I have with the game is how little build diversity is compared to prepatch… it’s clear that Elite specs are superior but we no longer have multiple build variations in these Elite spec builds… where did my burn guard go?

Anet could easily make core specs viable again.. it’s whether or not they can do so while also making an incentive to buy HoT. The reason they haven’t yet is because they haven’t found out how… =/

Reapers = No skill?

Thieves, Engis, Guardian each have a low skill floor entry to be “viable” as a class but a high skill cap in higher leagues.
I’ve seen Engi’s dominate a 1v2 while other Engi’s struggle with a class like Guard (should never happen)

I’ve seen Guardians die from focus bursts while others know how to survive while pushing hige aoe cc & bursts

Same goes for Necro’s “spammy” playstyle. Some struggle to beat their counter class Guardian while others can very well do so, consistently.

Worth Getting HoT for PvP?

To put it this way – the game has a lot of potential, but it has the wrong staff. The majority of the staff should’ve been fired yesterday. For the game to get better it requires a revamp of the trait system, a balance team that consists of people who actually play the game, better PvP modes, and a revamp of SH because not even A-net can figure out how a moba works.

It’s not the staff, they’re just doing what they’ve been told. It’s the game directors who are failing to understand why players don’t like, for example, WvW. Then failing to make the necessary changes to fix the reason. That or they’re aware something can use a fix, but the change suggestion is declined because doing so isn’t cost effective.
To top it off, the game is understaffed & under budget… so a single change literally takes half a year to finalize.

As for Stronghold… I want to gain my traits through out a game just like a moba. Everyone starts as level 1. Level 2, pick a tree and gain a trait. Level 3, choose another tree OR strengthen the tree you already picked. There can be a total of 12 levels to pick your build.

Lol @ all the people assuming he did a competent job. How long do you think a lone necro can handle focus? About 5 seconds? While the enemy holds the point still (no decap) and then he sits out for 15 seconds after dying?

Edit: and just adding necro is THE WORST class to do this. I get the harass far strategy. I don’t get why the slowest moving and least peelable class would do it.

Although Necro pushing far may have been a bad plan, you’re still the one at fault for not working with him. If it’s clear he’s pushing far, push with him and force yourself (and your team for that matter) a change in strategy.

Nothing good comes from player insults… you can get banned for that.

The aim of any class rework should be :

-Make all classes fun to play and fight against

-Make sure that each class will give different rewards based on the skill level of the user, the better and more experience you are, the better the results ( not like now where you have very easy to use builds with vast rewards and other whose reward is non existent no matter how you play)

Powercreeping/Nerfing to oblivion won’t change anything, what it’s 10 now, will be the same whether you reduce it to 8 or increased to 15, the difference between professions would not change if you simply tweak numbers considering your personal bias

For the record every person that try to propose these class rework always end up cutting ele healing by 50%+ and add few sprinkles of dmg there and there, on skills whose main problem are the obvious animation are extremely long CD, and ofc anybody who make these suggestions never take in consideration the relations between professions.

I mean nobody of you can imagine how each profession can interact with each other one, given its kitten nal and in a given situation….it takes more than a simple wish list to become a renewed game designer

I really want to slap you for a comment you made in this. First i have been doing this for over 5 years now. I know what i am doing. There is intent behind my suggestions, to raise everything to a competitive equal play with out really nerfing crap to much.

Nerfing something from a 10 to an 8 does change the situation, because op is not always op. Op is only op if its a 10, and not an 8. Its all subjective to its value verse the other options.

I disagree here.

I’ll use Guardian as an example, Guardian can beat every class except Druid, Rev, Engi. You can’t simply upgrade DH to a “10” to be on par with these 3 classes because DH will be way too OP for the other 6 classes.

You would literally have to main each class and understand why class A can’t beat class B then change that class mechanically… not necessarily the dmg numbers associated with them.

It’s why some of your changes doesn’t make sense… you’re thinking too linearly and making the DH power creep explode.

Quoted for inquiry. There’s a lot of League players who soloQ away from their team… I haven’t heard of any of these players complain about “MMR Hell”.

That said, there’s “Matchmaking Hell” where matchmaking can and will place you on an unfavorable comp back to back.. this is my equivalent of “MMR Hell” but the two are not correlated.

Any burn guard will tell you it’s not the team fight cleanses or necro throwbacks that hurts us… it’s the large amounts of Stuns & CC HoT puts out… we’re forced to go DH for the sustains & Stability gains.

This build, like all other burn guard builds, either lack stability&sustains or lacks burst dmages that DH can dish out. Burn guardian is in a bad state, just like all the other non-elite specs.

I am not a fan of the instant death concept. It is against the concept concept of play and counter play, which i think its very important for the suspense and over all balance and health of the game.

Yes, I think that’s what I don’t understand. The Thief is easily a victim of insta-death (or even near-insta-death with Marauder), but does not have the ability to deal insta-death (save for the instances I mentioned above).

I’m running full Berserker, Deadly Arts/Critical Strikes/Trickery, Fire/Air sigils, and Assassin’s Signet, and I still cannot punch through defenses quickly enough. I am running Pack runes instead of Scholar runes for more sustained damage.

What I find really odd is that other professions get my kind of damage (or more) along with defenses. In my opinion, too many passive defenses at that. And even Daredevil’s sustain is locked behind HoT. So it seems that a glass cannon Thief is really only truly effective against another glass cannon. Having never played WoW, I fear I cannot compare the two games.

The thing is, Thief is more OP with any other burst+cc class. Thief is very subpar by himself, unlike the prepatch version of Thief and unlike most self-supporting or self-sustaining classes we have currently.

That’s why Thief is so hard to balance and make right. On one hand you want Thief players to be self reliant. On the other, Thieves could be OP if they’re self-reliant AND over-the-top when ran with a Guard/Mesmer/Rev comp. That partly has to do with their incredibly mobility arch-type of a class so… them insta-dying when making a false move is kind of well within reason…. in theory.

Great post and interesting read! It confirms what I thought not long after HoT release, Anet should sell to Blizzard.

The only thing I agree with this post is this…

…in many cases, some classes are near unkillable because of having massive amounts of stability issues when it comes to addressing survivability rates. Examples are Guardian, and elementalists perma 33% Protection builds Stability traits
…in some cases classes depend on a very specific build, or would other wise be highly ineffective in pvp.

The rest of the post is opinionated, semantic propaganda.

Oh and as for Blizzard… they killed WoW a long time ago, during/after WotLK. They completely removed build diversity and completely simplified the game so any 3yo with a brain could play it… that’s not the kind of game balance GW2 needs. Definitely don’t want any Blizzard PvP Director for GW2… I would quit in a heartbeat.

I think DH Focus 5 + True Shot + Judge Intervention + Smite Condition is up there too.

If we include that, then full medi trapper DH on Zerkers will have huge bursts with 5 traps on point + Trueshot.

That’s not exactly a fair or realistic scenario for what OP is asking :p

I don’t see how a full trap DH can counter reaper. Actually I don’t even see how a meditation trapper can counter reaper. The scepter will corrupt from 900 range safely outside of traps … staff marks pierce through blocks.

You’re more than welcomed to duel me if you like. But I assure you we give Reapers a run for their money. Disregarding thieves and wars, Reapers are second easiest to handle next to Mesmers.

and how exactly are you going to land this ToF if the reaper stands in the distance o.O or sends their flesh golem just to trip ur traps while you have 30-40 secs cooldown and no utility whatsoever. And no I wouldn’t duel you on a reaper because I have less than 5 hours on the class but my teammates play necro and they pull some crazy stuff on those DHs. Going as far as almost one-shotting with shroud #5

This is usually how the fight goes,

Reaper has 0 stability at start of match and usually 0 life force.

  • F1 – tof – lb#3 to knockback out of tof – trueshot
  • They’re at half health or less, they DS
  • sword#3 for mini block and 4k burst – Focus & F3 blocks most of bursts – F2 to heal, peel, and cleanse
  • Reap or minions trigger Purification

Now, reaper will try to currupt boons and condi burst but blocks, smite condition, cop and F2 keeps me cleansed. His DS gets countered with F3 & Renewed Focus. ToF lands because I only set it off when I know it’ll hit. I don’t precast it unless i’m sitting on point.

Unscathed Contender - Guardian PvP Build.

You pack a punch that’s for sure but with that level of glass, you’ll be a hit or miss in team fights. Though you already know the build’s faults, here’s my heavy criticism.

You’re incredibly weak against conditions to the point where any condi transfering/condi converting Necro can 1 shot you.

If your trueshot and traps misses, which can happen often, then you’re 10k health and 0 toughness is incredibly vulnerable to getting bursted yourself. And i’m not talking about any focused X v 1 team fight setting, you can quickly get bursted down by any single Marauder or Condi class.

I’d say this is a decent 1v1 build assuming you absolutely avoid condition classes, stay very close to Ele or Druid and don’t get too carried away with your cds. You’d have to make the jump on Rev/Druid/Necro/Scrapper ASAP and have the reflexes to immediately throw down your traps to avoid Thieve’s bursts, etc.

Other than that, it looks like it could be fun dealing that 10k trueshot :P

They wont create a “team only matchmaking” (majority of players wanted) so they likely wont create a “Core Build Only” matchmaking (very few players desire).

Unfortunately, anything new in regards to matchmaking “modes” isn’t going to be added any time soon.
