Mesmers (and elementalists) will not be competitive in PvP unless ANet nerfs thieves.
It’s really that simple.
Don’t forget about warriors. It seems like a lot of people would rather play a warrior because of how easy it is, honestly.
So far, I’m finding Shatter to be better for team queue, and PU conditions to be better for solo queue. That’s just in my experience, though.
Which traits and utilities do you use in your PU build? I’m assuming 20/20/30/0/0?

I still have fun on my Mesmer, but I also wish ANet would look at some of the other classes dominating TPvP cough warrior cough and adjust them accordingly instead of nerf us again.
I personally think that trait, along with some of the other traits, should be moved, but that’s my opinion. Some of our traits seem to be in trait lines that don’t make sense.
The DE nerf is not really a critical nerf to shatter specs, it just causes the players to use clones and dodges up more wisely. It’s not that hard to send 3 clones to shatter before dodging again since every shatter skill sends clones into seperate queues until it hits the target. But, it’s definately a critical nerf to clone-death builds.
I am still suprised how little people know about shatter after all this discussion going on on the board. As if it was about just getting out three illusions and blow them up and that’s it.
In the end, I think most people do not play shatter, because they have no clue about how it works, about positioning, about targeting, about spreading out clones, that you do not just shatter because it is off cooldown.
It is hard to blame some random Dev’s not knowing about the nuances of the mesmer gameplay, if even the mesmers themselves have no clue…
I do agree, and if they would, you know, fix the clones to shatter on the correct target it wouldn’t be such a huge nerf. Like the times I’ve shattered, and had at least one clone blow up on an inanimate object (like the crates in Battle of Khylo). That’s just an example as to why this nerf hurts more then clone on death builds. After practice, I am good at positioning clones, can’t really achieve that without DE, because I won’t be able to over write that clone attacking a crate. -_-

I’m already in a guild that I help co-lead, but I would be interested in popping over to this one every so often if that would work. Just let me know….
Name: Vibrant Violette
Server: Sanctum of Rall
Playstyle: Pretty much everything, although I’m looking to learn more about WvW
Role: Oh, probably Tester for now. I’ve played Mesmer for over a year, though, so I’m cool with almost any role.
Playtime: Usually 9:00pm EST to 12:00am EST on weekdays, later on weekends.
I’m just going to reiterate what people have already said, for the sake of adding my 2 cents. I’ve been maining a Mesmer for over a year. The class was just so unique and fun. We had a pretty decent variety of builds, so you could change things up and still be considered viable in any aspect of the game. I feel as though we’ve seen nothing but nerfs to “balance” us, when all it’s really doing is destroying this class. You don’t want people playing passive builds? Well you’re pushing Mesmer into that direction with the Deceptive Evasion and Critical Infusion nerfs, as phantasm builds will reign supreme.
These nerfs don’t only affect PU builds, but also shatter and condition builds. You’re leaving us with very little to work with. It’s already hard enough trying to TPvP on Mesmer, now it will just be that much more difficult. You’re taking away a core part of being a Mesmer.
Am i completely missing something here? Yea clone death/suicide builds are fun…. but im pretty sure they’re not so good that they are even close to meta at higher level gameplay. Reason being is that it really doesn’t provide any specific function to the team. Its pretty solid in 1v1 fights but the fights typically take too long and support will arrive at their home to push you away, not to mention that condi mesmer is absolutely terrible vs anything with condi immunities (engi’s ele’s warriors). The build isn’t all that great in group fights, and its still pretty slow to be a roamer. Kind of plays out like an off-tank support build. I play this style in hotjoins for kittens and giggles. If im tpvping its shatter cat all the way. This is seriously going to hurt the condi mesmer, as well as all other DE based builds. The only build i forsee this helping is phantasm builds, which don’t really need DE anyway….
On that note, it will be somewhat nice to be able to have 3 phantasms up with DE… i just don’t think its worth the trade off..
This is going to hurt shatter builds, too.
personally i love the Deceptive Evasion nerf, i hope they nerf clone spammers through the ground, i play pvp, i want to fight players not the AI they spam because they’re too useless to fight for themselves…
i write this after rage quitting from my last game against a team with 3 mesmers that did nothing but run away, stealth and spam AI.
AI needs removing from pvp entirely. PVP PLAYER VS PLAYER
You clearly don’t understand how Mesmer works. The primary source of Mesmer damage is from the illusions, whether they are phantasms, being shattered, or giving conditions upon death.
Also, how about making our clones attack the proper target? I thought that was supposed to be fixed a while back. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shattered on a player in PvP, and the clone(s) will shatter the rock dog, pet, or minion instead, even though I didn’t have it targeted.
I could care less about PU builds being nerfed, I’m more concerned about Critical Infusion. Longer cooldown and it will be 50% less effective? How about fixing things like Illusionary Leap?
I am trying out hambow in PvP, and it’s very powerful, but I was wondering if there are other builds that are good for PvP? I just want to try a few out and see which I like best. I haven’t done much PvP with warrior at all, I mostly PvP on mesmer, but wanted a change of pace. Thanks in advance!
Just let them destroy it, keep them occupied, though. It gives your team opportunity to cap points. I say this because you can easily repair it. Go to the repair kit, drop Portal Entre. Get as close to the treb as you can within range of your portal, and drop Portal Exeunt. Port, grab the repair kit, port back, repair. Then they have to take the time to destroy it all over again if they so choose, giving your team another opportunity to cap points. This absolutely can be a game-changer, because some teams are so hellbent on destroying the treb, they will have 2 or 3 people show up, thus leaving points undefended.
I’ll play. Look at my signature, I have a good amount of 80’s. I disagree that mesmers are “too easy”. That medal would go to warrior.
My team isn’t always available, but we do generally have the same people. On the weekdays I usually solo queue. Been playing with both builds, and I definitely see strengths and weaknesses of each, but I like them. I am trying to get a better grasp on Gates build, though. I can tell it’s strong, though!
Here is a really old picture of my Norn Mesmer. She was wearing Nightmare armor and using the Peacemaker GS.
It’s extremely frustrating. My guildies and I are going to test builds later.
What are you running, Qaelyn?
Been running Sensotix condition build or shatter (20/20/0/0/30).
I’m not new, really, just getting back into PvP after a hiatus. Been playing mesmer for over a year.
So maybe I should revisit PU and Bountiful Interruption?
Thank you, very helpful! I’ll talk to my team and work on new builds, if necessary. I’m still experimenting with builds myself, too.
If it’s one, no problem, but lately it’s been 2-3 per match. :/ My team can’t keep them all busy while holding points. It’s such a hard build to counter, it seems.
So lately I’ve been doing solo queue and team queue with guildies. We do fairly well, until we meet a team with 2 or more hambow warriors, which seems to be quite often. I’m thinking I need a build that is a good counter to them. Any suggestions? Our team varies depending on which class people bring, but we always have a necro and guardian. Thanks!
TPvP is pretty much a joke because of hambow warriors. We were getting 2-3 on the opposing team all night. Everything about this build is completely OP. I never whine on the forums about a class/build, but this is seriously absurd.
I’ve been playing with the Bountiful Interruption build, I like it. Any suggested changes, though? Lyssa tunes maybe?
Are these builds still viable after the December 10th patch?
Check out Sensotix. He has a lot of videos and viable builds to use. You can search him on Youtube and these forums.
Check out Sensotix’s Youtube channel. He always has fun and useful builds. I got accused of using PU the other day, which made me laugh, because I wasn’t using it at all. :P I was using a Bountiful Interruption build. I do that if I’m bored and want to hotjoin a few matches, otherwise I run shatter. Still have to yet to give the condition build a good try.
I think they really need to nerf Warriors stability uptime. The only reason why they can’t be handled is because you can’t stop them from coming at you and the reason for that is 29 seconds of stability.
My point as well. Actually, i do not mind so much warriors builds. It’s surely annoying facing 2 or 3 every match, but the extra mechanics are really not balanced.
The etendard to get up people, and the " easy " stability to finish are way too problematic and can sometimes give complete unfair loses.
I haven’t played my warrior in months, but it seems hammer warrior is pretty OP. You get 2 hammer warriors in a TPvP match, it’s pretty much game over unless they really suck or your team is exceptionally good.
Pretty much anything about being a Mesmer. When you kill someone yet you’re “bad” because your class is “OP”. When people are sore losers or sore winners, and instead of returning the “GG”, they go on to tell you how bad you are, and continue it to whispers after, etc. The joys of PvP.
Bumping up, as we are still recruiting.
Good morning! Giving this a quick bump.
Potluck Massacre [PLUM] is recruiting on the Sanctum of Rall server! We are a PvX guild with a focus on building a great community. We are currently recruiting individual players, and would take in any small guilds who would like to combine, too. What do we offer? Well….
*All Guild Missions are unlocked, and we run them several times a week so all members have a chance to complete them.
*Many of our members and all our officers are quite knowledgeable in dungeons and FOTM.
*We run dungeons/FOTM daily.
*We have our own locked SPvP arena for testing builds, dueling, and having nights for all [PLUM] members to relax, have fun, and slaughter each other. We also run TPvP sometimes, but it’s not a huge part of our guild.
*We have our own TS server for [PLUM] use only, so no trolls will interrupt you during your gaming.
*We have contests, raffles, and events on a regular basis for members to have fun and win prizes!
*24/7 Guild Buffs
*And much more!
Our guild takes great pride in making sure our members have an enjoyable gaming experience. For example, when running a mission, we do our best to make sure every member makes it and gets their reward. We do not believe in elitism, we strive for teamwork.
You can learn more about us on our site at www.potluckmassacre.com, or by sending me (Vibrant Violette) an in-game message or mail. I will get back to you as soon as I can if you contact me via mail. I will also try to check this thread daily. Thanks for checking us out, and we hope to see you as a [PLUM]!

Umm, good luck? It won’t happen.
GS isn’t a terrible choice, but you’re going to find staff offers more currently, even in many PvE situations. That is because you don’t want to stray too far from melee range, you’ll miss out on all the boons other classes are giving. I’ll use GS on fights where I need iZerker for the cripple. Staff is nice because you can drop Chaos Storm on your group, and load up on boons, have an escape (2 skill), Chaos Armor, etc.
Thieves are broken in PvP? Tell that to the 5+ thieves I see in SPvP matches every day.
Scepter is used for conditions, along with a dagger offhand for potency. Axe and dagger main hand are power weapons, with a focus offhand, typically. Staff is a good all-around weapon to have as a secondary, but it’s not mandatory. It depends on your build and the situation. What do you want to do with necro? Do you want to do damage with conditions (bleeds, poison, vulnerability, etc) or do you want to do straight up damage with big numbers? Necro is quite versatile.
Here’s a recent picture of my Sylvari Necromancer, Antemortem. Using T3 for PvE, and the T2 for my WvW set. Dyes are Molten, Midnight Fire, and Swampblack.
This is Antemortem, my first character. She is a Sylvari. While she has many different appearances over the past year, this is by far my favorite. I acquired an ascended box from Fractals, and since they were condition stats, I put a scepter on her. Dyed her gear with a combination of Molten, Midnight Fire, and Swampblack. The T3 is her PvE look, the T2 is her WvW set.
I use Brazil’s DPS/support build. (http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83936-the-new-mesmer-meta/). It still does nice damage. I made a quick video to kind of show you sword/focus and sword/pistol. You can switch out Signet of Inspiration for Blink if the situation calls for it. I was using mostly zerker gear with Scholar Runes, but used two celestial trinkets and a knight’s ring to show you the damage with a bit of extra survival. Not my fastest giant kill, but you get the general idea.
The build is…
10-III
30-II, IV, IX
0
30-II, VIII, IX
0
My utilities are typically Blink/Signet of Inspiration, Null Field, Feedback, and Time Warp.
You can switch out a 5 or 10 points if you so choose. I just run this because it’s high utility without sacrificing too much damage. Yeah, it’s not the best damage, but it’s nothing to sneeze at. I also bring GS along if I need to range. People poo-poo on GS for some reason, but it’s a solid ranged option.

I wanted to bump this again, as we are still actively recruiting. We have a great group of people, and would love to see new faces!
YAY! Was nerve-wracking at the end, I wasn’t sure we’d get him. So glad to have been there for that, was epic!
Yeah, my human mesmer runs a power build. I just wanted to try something to kitten around with, mostly.
Nobody? /charrs
Hello. First off, I have 2 mesmers; a human and norn. My human is my “main” mesmer, and I enjoy the build I run on her. My norn was retired for a bit, but I want to try a condition build on her. Are there any good ones for PvE? Or anything that can transfer from PvE to WvW with a few trait changes? Thanks in advance!
Mesmer, you’ll thank me later. They offer so much more in PvE, and are a lot of fun in PvP. I did play thief, I actually had a level 80 thief that I deleted because it was gathering dust.
