zerk meta solution

I think one of the big problems with the “Zerker Stacks” meta isn’t that it’s “The best”, but that it’s bland. People wouldn’t mind another “The Best/Fastest” metagame strategy if it required diversity in gear and builds, (So that, sure, five zerkers can get through a dungeon… but a Zerker/Rampager/Carrion/Shaman/Cleric run does it faster.), and a more dynamic and visually appealing battlefield.

Boss Blitz: super unfun

Please explain why.

Mechanics require organization but it has no tools to encourage organization.

Therefore, instead of a 10 minute run, it will take 45 minutes- 1 hour to complete.

Exactly, no tools for organization, and severe penalty for any random player coming onto the map and joining the fight. very very very punitive for participation. This is simply a bad conceptual event. Spoon

Does a guild counts as a tool for organization?

Not quite, since it doesn’t provide information about what’s going on where across the area. At best, it’s a place with a few of the people knowing what to do and communicating with each other. And, they aren’t “Pick up and Play”.

A clearly visible healing link between turret and boss might help pointing the mechanic out, too.

Eh? There’s a great big stream of energy particles flowing from the turret to the boss when its up. Either people have their graphics turned to zero or they’re too stupid to help.

Actually, we had this dude at the Lyssa temple fight who was complaining that he didn’t know what to do. When questioned he said a) he doesn’t read chat during fights, b) he plays with no sound so doesn’t hear NPC warnings.

Maybe I’ve answered my own question …

I wish it was possible for NPC warnings/taunts to appear in the chatlog, since I have no sound.

But that aside – It may not be graphics turned to zero as much as the beam being lost amid the rest of the bright lights and particles and red rings and other visual clutter during the fight.

…and, when a boss goes down and the players try to move out to help with other bosses, they shouldn’t be punished for it. I don’t mind punitive scaling for imbalanced assaults, but the static, upward-only scaling is terrible (“Go help with another boss” is acceptable. “Sit this out completely” is not.)

A silly pet peeve about Logan

in Lore

Sartharina.3542

One problem- with Logan heartsick over Jennah’s death, he’d never even care to try. He’d bury his grief by concentrating his efforts on helping the people he did save. Destiny’s Edge would rise to new heights even as Kryta fell into chaos.

Remember, without Jennah, Logan doesn’t give a skritt fart about the kingdom. He’s not a patriot, just head over heals in love. Without that, he’s a merc with a preference for working as far away from DR as he can get. He’d have no reason to dislike Caudecus, and no reason to intervene if/when public dissension devolves into tyranny or riots. On the other hand, killing Kralkatorrik could finally have given Eir the confidence boost to go after Jormag directly, so Logan (and Rytlock) would have plenty to keep him busy in the far reaches of the world.

Nah. He gets bitter and vengeful over the death of Jenna, and refuses to let her kingdom wither and die, even if he has to turn it into a brutal militarized despotism to do so. :P

Or Rytlock and the rest of Destiny’s Edge kick his butt into gear and turn him into a Charr puppet ruler. Or just let humans get marginalized and form an alliance with the Centaur (Who seem to get along with the humans of Lion’s Arch just fine), and possibly other races the humans had kittened off from their expansionist entrance to the world.

Yes to this, too!! I want more equality in my fantasy settings; can’t we move forward from gender-based uniforms?

Unfortunately, this would probably result in a loss of armors that expose the chest, because of bullkitten hypersexualization of nonsexual body parts (Seriously – a woman’s chest is less sexual than her face, arms, or lower legs.).

My opinion on why GW1 plot > GW2 plot

in Lore

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

My problem with GW2 is the bad balance between presenting you as a Lackey yet declaring you a Leader. Not as bad as GW1’s Kormir, though.

Trahearne being leader of the pact is fine. My problem is that he calls me Commander, yet I never get to exercise any real command. Our characters are already decided for us and voiced, with a few tweaks – Let them be the one to work out/declare the details of what needs to be done. It’s somewhat weird when there are times they call you a leader, but treat you as a lackey, or call you a lackey, but treat you as a leader.

Of course… I was all for saying “Screw Destiny’s Edge – Let’s make our own guild”, integrating the dungeons more into the personal story.

As it was, I went from awe, to respect, to contempt for most of the Destiny’s Edge group. Also, as a Charr, I wish my starting situation was better referenced throughout. I am a Centurion, which means I should have several Warbands under my command, including my former one that I rebuilt, and is now commanded by the other original warband survivor. I was Iron Legion, so not really in a position to do much about Rytlock (Aside from maybe dismiss him) – but had I been Blood Legion, I wanted to issue a “Shape up or stand down” ultimatum to him, willing to take his place as Blood Legion Tribune in the same way he got there (And same way I became Legionnaire of my Warband) – His disrespect for his commanding officer (Eir, in the case of Destiny’s Edge) was infuriating – If she was so incompetent as a leader, it was his responsibility to relieve her of that command.

And for Zojja – I wanted to tell her to get over herself and get back in line before I reunited her with Snaff myself.

Why wasn’t there an option to replace Destiny’s Edge with competent people, or look elsewhere for support (Such as other player characters) until they got their kitten together?

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

There are two good qualities I see in the new trait system – The free retraiting on-the-fly, and the ease of reshuffling traits around. It destroys a bit of build individuality and certainly destroys character consistency (Which means it’s not strictly a good thing), but I find the fun in trying out new builds and traits to be worth that tradeoff.

Even unlocking traits isn’t a bad idea – It encourages getting out and experiencing more the game has to offer, gives another momentary Skill Point sink, and gives something to work toward. However, the current implementation is too aggressive – Adept traits really need to be unlocked immediately so players always have SOMETHING to play around with, while Master and Grandmaster can safely be reserved for unlocking. And, either the requirements need to be different for each alt (Or draw from a pool of tasks), or the traits should unlock account-wide. Or a combination of both, with every profession having a different task for each unlock, with that unlock being account-wide.

Leveling in the new system, unfortunately, is still an unacceptable pain. They need to be better and more reliably paced.

Yesterday, I learned that there are a lot of people who aren’t even aware of just how painful leveling is under the new system – People who had level 80s prior to the patch and haven’t rolled new characters haven’t experienced any of the downsides of the new trait system yet. I met one yesterday running in Frostgorge Sound.

There is a huge problem with trying to make bosses scale – the big question is – Do you want them to scale exponential-to-linearly, linearly, or logarithmically? Because party effectiveness scales in all three ways depending on players. Gear isn’t the problem, because they can make it lie right in the middle of Zerker and PVT gear: Zerkers give more DPS when they’re in their stride, but get knocked out of that easier as people stop to res frequently, or engage active defenses (If you’re rolling, you’re not attacking). PVT teams put out lower DPS in their stride, but sustain it through adversity.

An “ideal hardcore” team scales exponentially for a while, then curves to linearly – Each person comes optimally equipped, suffers no lag of any type, and is unbothered by the noise on the screen. They coordinate their attacks, combo fields, and boon fields, and mitigate enemy attacks with expert precision. They keep the boss condi-capped without wasting conditions, and share boons. Each one added to the mix makes everyone else stronger and more effective until they hit the hardware limitations, and then it goes to linear growth.

On the opposite side, you have casual, logarithmic growth of effectiveness. People show up in all sorts of gear and builds without rhyme or reason – You get zerkers, you get PVT, you get hybrids, you get condi bunkers, you get Condi Support. The condi builds run into the cap, so each future one adds only minimal extra damage and survivability. Lag increases, FPS rates drop. Players get lost in the sea of polygons and start missing/getting obstructed. They swap to less effective ranged weapons so they can stand back and see what’s going on and stop missing in melee. Sometimes you get someone like me, who ran a build that is completely unsuited to group/boss play, so goes to the far extreme and goes full support – As a Warrior, I did little more than set up bow condi fields, use a gun to help keep Weakness and an occasional contribution to Bleed on the boss, focused on ressing people around me (Dispensing Might, and getting them on their feet faster so others spend less downtime) and dispensing whatever banner wasn’t on cooldown wherever I saw a cluster of people (Saving Battle Standard for mass-rezzing). That was fun, but didn’t really contribute to taking the boss down. Anyway – the point is Players focus less on bringing the boss down and more on trying to keep their game stable, screen clear, and feeling like they’re contributing something meaningful (Standing people up, keeping conditions applied, and seeing boons go out feels a lot more rewarding than chipping away at a health bar, when you can’t even see your own contribution). Ressing gets haphazard – effectively, after a point, every new person added to the pile reduces the effectiveness of everyone else.

It’s pretty much impossible to balance this kind of disparity.

As for guilds in the game – Last I checked, this game wasn’t called Solo Roamer Wars 2.

What are rifles good for?

in Warrior

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

It’s the slow attack rate of a single projectile of the ‘1’ Rifle skill that basically makes Rifle not viable.

Longbow Dual Shot is 1.2s (2 projectiles) versus Rifles one projectile at roughly 1s. Longbow has superior Adrenaline gain (and superior chance of crit proc on critical sigils). More often than not, an opponent at long range will evasive dodge one Dual shot arrow to be hit by the second traveling just behind it; winner = Longbow by a huge margin.

Travel time difference is basically minimal. Slight advantage, Rifle.

Distance of weapon use is minimal (Longbow has arc to its shots which means it travels further than described and can travel over small obstacles). F1 from Rifle is 1500 range which rarely matters considering the cast time. No clear winner.

But it comes down to Rifle basically only being useful for the F1, Volley (pretty good) and Rifle Butt (no one here seems to mention the awesome interrupt/utility/damage of it) whereas Longbow is a complete package (save for the recent nerfs which makes it less attractive compared to straight up melee builds).

TL;DR Rifle needs bleeding shot cast time/animation time reduced to ~.75s (similar to the improvements made to Warrior Hammer a while back) or its damage coefficient improved by 25% (yes, it is that bad). Personally, I’d rather see the former since Warrior ranged combat already feels “slow” and it’ll be a bit better for Adrenaline generation mechanic builds.

EDIT: Or option 2, leave Rifle as is and throw in a Main Hand Pistol option that has faster attack animations over Rifle

I think this does sum up my experience with the rifle.

I also favor the “Fire faster” option, essentially making it function like a ranged Sword (Just swapping Burst and 3 functionality) – It allows easier Bleed stacking, making Condi rifles more viable, brings a lot more energy to ranged combat, and put the gun’s single-target damage potential above the Longbow’s (While the Longbow has superior multitarget damage). Of course, that might require Rifle 3 to be changed as well, since a faster fire rate makes Volley relatively less appealing.

They’re not.
And while I readily agree that a better UI support for these events would be amazing, the event itself is not difficult. At all. Organizing it can be a pain, but this partially fails on player motivation, because if they wanted to succeed, they could do so independent of UI support at no additional difficulty.

The point of a better UI would be to “force” the understanding onto the players who don’t want to succeed.

Without UI support, it IS an additional difficulty to figure out where things are going right, where they’re going wrong, and how to handle a foreign experience. Especially if it requires going out-of-game to learn the event. The game should be self-contained.

You can’t ‘force’ understanding on anyone, but you can spell things out to assist in comprehension. Requiring 3rd-party communications or web pages should be a no-go And trying to convey information in a timely manner with non-timestamped logs is also a hassle.

A silly pet peeve about Logan

Sartharina.3542

I wouldn’t say that there’s no line of succession, just that the succession is clearly unfavorable. I don’t think there’s any question that in the absence of a royal, power would default to the Ministry, and that as head of the Ministry and champion of the nobles, Caudecus would receive the lion’s share of that power. Thing is, Caudecus is kinda a prick, and there’s nothing Jennah can do about that. She could designate an heir, I suppose, but without the blood royal, anyone she picked would have no legitimacy once she was gone, or so the Ministry would insist as they executed their coup. Producing an heir the natural way is a similar non-starter: any kid of Jennah’s would only get the rule if they were an adult when she died, otherwise the Ministry gets the regency and we get back once again to Caudecus being in charge.

The line of succession if Jennah were to die while Logan is slaying Krat is Jennah → Ministry starts trying to put Caudecus on the throne → Logan, as leader of the Seraph, and declares Martial Law. Then they go to the Ascalon Catacombs, get Logan a fiery sword, and through the Right of Awesome, Dragonslaying, and Owning a Fancy Sword, becomes King of Kryta and Ascalon (This really is a right – just ask King Arthur).

With the fame and prestige from slaying the dragon, few would question Logan’s rightful rise to power. With him claiming the throne of Ascalon through his alliance with Charr, the Foefire gets dispelled, freeing up valuable alliance forces – And, there would be plenty of space for the Charr and Humans to share Ascalon and Kryta. Anyone dissenting with Logan’s rise to power in spite of his awesomeness answers to the Seraph and Blood Legion enforcers. If any Charr object to the alliance, or if Rytlock’s superiors take issue with the change in power, that is similarly revised and corrected – Destiny’s Edge acquires whatever trinket’s required to get Rytlock recognized as Khan Ur, and the might of DE destroys any opposition to Rytlock’s ascension.

Damage Meters and Inspect Commands

#1: If a player’s principle is to mess with another group of players, they probably have a very sad life. Also, I doubt that many people would actually do that. It would accomplish virtually nothing. People value their time.

There’s a term for this – it’s called “Griefing”, and a lot of people enjoy it for all sorts of reasons – spite, vengeance against slights, etc. Such as people wrecking Champ Trains not because they want to face a champion on their own or with their own group or any other legitimate reason to down a champ ‘out of sequence’, but simply to provoke the train into raging (Which the train wouldn’t rage about if it were for an honest reason), or, more relevant, people who currently hate the ‘zerker meta and feel it is destroying the game, so go out of their way to try to try and ’prove a point’ by deliberately fouling up Zerker Meta Speed Runs.

#2: If that’s the case, we “elitists” should be allowed to kick them. Thats what happens to zerkers to demand a full zerk party when the lfg clearly states “casual run” or w/e. I’m not supporting this, just saying that ignoring lfgs should be enough basis for a kick, regardless of who you are or what you’re joining. Also, ignoring tags won’t make you very popular. (Selfish play style, ignoring the wishes of your party members)

While I’m not a fan of the idea of gear inspect or DPS meters, the problem with the “just kick them” is that you have to take someone at their word that they’re a Burst Damage character ready to tear through a dungeon – and only after the run is delayed by that character (Who may outright try to deceive others by carrying a spare set of zerker gear and weapons, but running a condi bunker build) that the deception is revealed.

#3: If they cannot operate in zerker gear but wish to run with zerkers, they should get better at combat. Once again, should someone do this, they should be kicked. Being bad at combat is not an adequate excuse to be carried. (Same as being carried)

The only way to get better with ‘zerker gear and builds is to run ’zerker gear and builds. They can join ’zerker parties, try to do their best to ensure they’ve got at least the basics of the strategy used down, and do their best to improve – but you can’t get better at Zerker gameplay if you’re running a PVT build – your burst damage isn’t what it needs to be.

#4: #3 and #4 are virtually the same, just lacking in different parts of the game. One is lacking in combat experience and skill, and the other is lacking in experience with the dungeon. If someone needs to learn the dungeon, they should ask a friend to teach them. If they don’t have friends, they can form their own “learning dung” party. By joining an lfg, you are a guest in a party. To disregard a host’s rules is quite rude. I’m sure everyone can relate to this. (Same as being carried.)

Ideally, I think it’s better for training to have 3-4 skilled zerkers and 1 or2 willing-to-learn new zerks. The new guys should know the dungeon itself though, even if they’re not quite sure of how to do it as a zerker yet.

Ultimately, people really should be more excellent to each other – and unlike most of the other content in the game, the instanced nature of dungeons and fractals means they don’t have to clash. Unfortunately, a lot of people put metagame crusading above decency.

We need more tools to allow people to self-organize. I don’t mind the structure of the boss blitz (Aside from the “Don’t go help others if your boss dies” mechanic, or awkward scaling that ignores number of people actively in the blitz – I’d rather have it so that it specifically scales to imbalance instead of sheer number, at least on the durability front).

But, I don’t think we should remove the need for coordination – just make it easier to coordinate. Being able to see how many people are on each boss (So you can see if your boss is overpopulated, or another is underpopulated/ignored), and having shuffling numbers not punish people that leave a boss to rebalance the # of people on a boss (Scale down as well as up!)

The big problem with balancing scaling isn’t Zerker vs. PVT (Or Shaman) – it would be simple just to put the scaling right in the middle. The issue with balance scaling is coordination. Some groups can create a tight, boon-sharing coordinated melee stack fully dedicated to bringing the boss down. Others end up falling victim to the Bystander effect, get lost in the sea of clipping polygons and fail to notice they’re actually out-of-range to hit them in melee, unable to see what’s going on to properly use ranged weapons or avoid devastating attacks (Those centaur chains are easily manageable in small groups. But in a large one, they’re like ninja trucks), bumping into DoT Condi Cap (Wasting damage), running around getting their shots obstructed by haphazard attempts to dodge attacks and adds, looking for downed players, and other behaviors caused by the confusion of too much visual noise in massive boss battles (Even if those people are otherwise excellent players) – too much to do, essentially.

Why does ArenaNet hate farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

Actually, farming destabilizes the economy, because the farmers end up as the only people with money.

Sure, as farmers increase supply of things, the prices drop – but so does the value of everything the non-farmers get. People don’t get their gold from nowhere – they get it from selling the stuff they find.

In the lodestone example above, the people pre-patch who stumbled across a lodestone and didn’t need it were only getting 2 g for it. Post-patch, when they stumble across a lodestone they don’t need, they get 4 g from it.

What patch are you talking about? Currently, the only lodestone above 1G is Charged, and that peaked at ~4 gold in January, 2013. After champ bags were introduced, it dropped under 2G and was fairly stable (~2-2.5 G) until recently, where it’s up over three.

I assumed it was a hypothetical situation posted earlier by someone talking about how Farming helps the economy by bringing price down – when all it really does is puts the money in the hands of the farmers, and devalues the loot and acquisitions of non-farmers.

Imagine zerg content where you can stunlock the enemy. That thing has a purpose.

This is not an argument against CC. It’s yet another argument for why “zerg” content is the most shallow BS imaginable and needs to stop.

Then look at dungeons, which has a 5 player limit only, still has anti CC mechanics. If it wouldnt exist you would see “lf CC thief” or something similar advertisements.
This issue just get bigger when the enemy has to face against much more players.

Any constructive idea?

They suck at dungeon design as well.

Indomitable is bad because it completely negates the ability to use CC.

Defiant, however, is just bass-ackwards – In order to have a chance of controlling a boss with Defiant, you need to build yourself so that you’re essentially able to stunlock it once it’s out of Defiant, and it’s also impossible to time control effects to be useful because of the ablative shielding.

Instead, they should design Anti-Stunlock mechanics so that they cause diminishing returns, such as applying a short-duration Indomitable after being hit by a CC effect (Stacks duration any time new skill tries CCing it), and having durations and effectiveness get reduced the more times they get hit by it – If you carefully ration use of CC to coordinate and time its use against a boss, it would be properly effective. However, if you just zergspam CC effects, it gets momentarily stunned early on, but quickly becomes an unstoppable juggernaut.

There are a few structural problems with the individual boss fights – namely, the ton of immunities they get that invalidate lots of character builds and playstyles.

But, on a larger level, the biggest problem with the pavillion is the lack of tools to coordinate. There’s no way to see how other bosses are being handled, and there have been several instances in my group where, after downing 4 out of 6 bosses in time for a Silver reward, we realize there was absolutely nobody on the other two – or that two of those bosses, which were under control, had been all but abandoned because there were two empty bosses earlier in the run.

We need to be able to tell the HP of all bosses and see how many people are on each boss at all times.

There are also structural issues with the event – Boom Boom comes to mind because of the power and durability of her healing turret – even if you get a group to nova the turret, or try a 50/50 pressure on each or any other combination of split attention, it’s not enough to keep the fight from being stupidly prolonged with anything other than the most organized and informed groups. The amount of immunities bosses have is also a problem.

There’s not an inherent problem with the need to split to face the bosses – although the scaling should be reeled in enough so that even distribution (Or mostly-even distribution) of players can bring the boss blitz down in time no matter how many people there are total.

IMHO, the only missing thing is every boss HP bar being monitored under the Boss-Blitz event timer.
This should be enough indicative of which boss needs reinforcements and allow a proper split on an unorganized megaserver.

More important than Boss HP would be “Number of non-defeated Players on each boss” – especially because some bosses have high HP remaining (Boom Boom, I’m looking at you) because there are TOO MANY people on that boss.

The biggest problem with the event is that it’s nearly impossible to self-coordinate even for players willing to try to do so – it’s impossible to tell how many people are on each boss, it’s impossible to tell how other bosses are faring, and it’s impossible to fix a scaling mistake caused by people piling onto one boss (Either by overreacting to a call for reinforcements – You need 3-5 more people for a boss, and get 20, etc, or people just coming by to see what the state of the boss is) – once you’re in the fight, that boss is scaled up for good.

Having an “Event Failed” timer (So it goes Gold>Silver>Bronze>Failed)… on one hand, would be terrible for the investment needed to start the event. On the other, it would allow the event to cycle faster without necessarily rewarding people – On failed run, no chest is given, or any other good.

However, it would still come in three tiers of participation, with different (Practically inconsequential) Experience-Karma-Copper rewards: Gold if you managed to take down a boss within the Gold time limit. Silver if you manage to take down any boss at all before time’s up. Bronze for those that managed to whack a mob or two in a boss area before time is up.

Perhaps you should reread my post.. No where does it say betrayed! The word used was loyalty.

And the term for lack/loss/abuse of loyalty is Betrayal.

That was in GW1.

GW2 is all about the cash shop. Now open up your wallet and prepare to spend spend spend, for a chance at a chance of a weapon skin.

Oh?
How many of those re-released items from in-game can you buy in the cash shop? (Or for gold for that matter..?)

Reading comprehension? Let me make it more simple for you.

GW1 was about earning skins. They came along with prestige and were proof of having done something.

GW2 is about buying them from the gemshop. Now reach into your wallet and buy some gems like NCsoft wants.

GW2 has plenty of “Earned-only” skins as well, like GW1. Earning items through accomplishment is one thing (No matter how trivial that accomplishment may seem to others). However, taking away the ability to earn an item is problematic. If you want Living Story content, you have to play Living Story content for them – there’s no way around that. You just have a chance to actually earn the living story content you’re playing for. The people who were there for the original event already got the item faster, cheaper, easier, and earlier than everyone else.

A lot of people play games to escape the abuses and unfairness of reality.

Stop comparing this garbage to GW1, it will never be as great. The developers from GW1 actually played the game, they were one of us and they understood. Not these money/gem hungry kittens.

The developers of GW2 also play the game as well, given how many ANet-marked Baby Doylaks racing around the cliffs I’ve seen. I’ve also stumbled across them in other areas.

  • You do nothing and simply wait for bosses to die from age – yes, you deserve nothing.
  • You try to do it again and do it wrong, you get bronze reward.
  • You try to do it again and learn enough, you get silver reward.
  • You try to do it again and master it, you get gold reward.

Seems perfectly fair too me.

There is no indication what the ‘right’ way to do the boss run is, and part of it is counterintuitive (The part where, after you kill your boss, you DON’T go to help others)

You are unable to read map chat? Give away part of your reward.

Map Chat can only give the vaguest information. There are no tools to help PUGs/‘zerg’ self-organize and coordinate even when they are willing and trying to do so – If someone tries to organize a team to take down one boss,

The scaling also is only one-way (Upward), so there’s no ability to correct a mistake from population imbalance – If, after it’s reported that Boom Boom and Pyro are empty, and four groups converge on Pyro in an attempt to solve the problem, it’s too late for two of the Pyro groups to break off and move to Boom Boom instead – Pyro is buffed to fight four groups of players though only two stick around. Or, if one group manages to take a boss down quickly and try to move to distribute themselves to underpopulated teams and realize they overcompensate, then there’s also no way to fix that (Though in this situation, they’re usually shooting for Silver)

There needs to be a way to tell how many people are on each boss at any given time, and see how well each group is doing on the bosses (Read – Show all boss HP from all points in the pavillion)

There are two big UI tools that need to be added to make the Crown Pavillion more bearable, even though the refusal of people to learn individual bosses (Even through Trial+Error) makes me lose faith in humanity.

1. Boss health meter on ALL bosses (And Healing Turret for Boom Boom), that anyone in the arena can see at all times.
2. An NPC info-kiosk who gives general overviews and broad strategies for handling each of the bosses. The trial-and-error should come from applying the information given, not gathering it.

The big one, though, is:
3. A listing of the number of players on each boss. It’s impossible for players to self-organize and distribute themselves when there’s no source of information telling them where to go. Between terrible visibility from the overview platforms, cluttered arenas, and short draw distances, by the time people figure out whether the boss they’re headed too needs help or not they’ve already contributed to the scaling and can’t back out until it’s dead. Giving a board showing how many are on each allows people to communicate and organize more readily, while allowing new-to-the-area players to hop into where they’re needed.

I disagree, what you are suggesting is that a clock from Rolex, a Ferrari, a Bugatti, a private jet, a yacht, etc has no prestige in real life. You can get all that stuff in real life without being skilled, just by exploiting your employes, winning the lottery or inheriting it. Yet people still consider that stuff prestige.

Not really, they are just agreed upon tags saying “i’m filthy rich”. Their “prestige” is completely derived from your wealth. A rolex on the hand of a hobo, as far as prestige goes is worth exactly nothing. Also, people may be envious of your wealth, but are unlikely to respect you for it.

This is going off topic, but I’m going to have to disagree here… and I find it disturbing that people demonize financial success. A hobo with a Rolex is indicative of two things worthy of prestige – a once-successful person who has managed to hold onto a token of his former success (Perhaps as motivation to try to climb the social ladder again – down but not out), or someone who, while may have little currently, has a token of wealth to serve as a reminder and motivation to keep trying to improve his lot in life: a taste of the luxury that is attainable through perseverance and dedication to that end.

Of course, it could also represent negative things as well, if he attained that watch through crooked means.

What you are talking about can only be achieved if the real world is able to function the same way.

I meant persitant (Though consistent helps), but it’s been achieved numerous times in all sorts of ways, ranging from Runescape to WoW to Furcadia to Guild Wars 2 to EVE Online to Planetside to… any other MMO out there.

MMORPGs add avatar progression, exploration, and questing to the mix. RPGs are RPGs, whether it’s D&D, City of Heroes, Mass Effect, or Guild Wars 2.

… is there any defensive difference between Blocking and Evading, other than some attacks being able to go through Blocks? Being able to block for the same cost as an evade wouldn’t imbalance the game, and make shield users look cooler.

Anyway – I approve the idea of having shields function as backpacks as well, because shields look awesome.

The purpose of every MMO is, and has always been, to get nice looking high end items, killing bosses after reaching the lvl cap and getting yourself into pvp (& WvW), if ofc you are interested in it.

SOrry, this is some weird bullkitten nonsense you’re spouting that’s been run through a bizzaro ringer too many times.

The purpose of every MMO is to provide a large, consistent world for a massive playerbase to interact with, and hang out and socialize with friends and strangers in a virtual environment. And to make enough money to keep the servers running and creators paid.

Nothing else. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just wondering, what if it’s a skin you like? Let’s say a Gw1 HOM weapon skin, or a SAB green/yellow weapon skins, or others I can’t remember.

Those took people plenty of effort to get them I would think, so let’s just put a price tag on those, for eg, 3200 festival tokens. Would that be fine? We probably should make a universal token so we can get any skins we want, it doesn’t matter if you have never put a foot onto the event that skin came from.

It’s still possible to earn HOM gear – The Guild Wars 1 servers are still up and running with HoM still open (From what I last heard), with the purpose of allowing players to go back and earn that content for GW2 explicitly stated by the devs.

There’s nothing wrong with content locked behind specific activities. There IS a problem with content lost forever because of timers on content, which was a mistake from last season of LS.

And even then… “item prestige” that demands exclusive content is a blight. This is a game – everything should be earnable somehow. And it’s harder/more time-consuming to earn the festival tickets to get the gear than it was to earn them in the first place now. It also still requires dedicated exposure to Living Story content.

If they want those things for reasons entirely separate from being able to beat hard content (for them), but to ensure they only get the players they want in their party, then there are already plenty of tools available. Join a guild that’s built just for that purpose, build a section of your friendlist just for likeminded people. I dont know, maybe have some trust?

The same could be said for people who don’t want to use a DPS meter. Join a guild which doesn’t use one or build a friendlist of like minded people.

Actually, it doesn’t work in the reverse, because you’re asking people who enjoy an inclusive playstyle to use exclusive functions. Those who want a DPS meter for the purpose of checking others’ performance to ensure they are on the level they want enjoy an exclusive playstyle, which tight organization through guilds/friends lists complement – you know the people, you know the performance they are expected to put out, and you can organize with them reliably.

The non-performance check crowd that plays more casually don’t care who they end up linking with or how that person plays/is effective – THey’re inclusive to everyone, and it’s impossible to build a friends list or guild that includes “Everyone in the game except exclusively-minded players”, and defeats the purpose of being an inclusive player anyway.

But only because you prove yourself to them.

While Norn are better individual fighters than Charr, they are actually not all that welcome in a Warband – They tend to be too full of themselves, and poor ‘team players’.

Blood Legion doesn’t want Norn because they don’t follow orders promptly.
Ash Legion doesn’t want Norn because they tend to be like LEEROY JENKINS! on missions that are supposed to be about stealth.
Iron Legion doesn’t want Norn because they keep getting drunk, taking the tank for a joyride, getting in the way of firelines or artillery strikes, and prone to breaking the samoflange (I’m surprised that there WASN’T a samoflange joke tossed into the “Where’s Our Tank” questline, at least that I saw)

Work does not necessarily mean not fun.

Nope, not working hard. I’m playing hard.

I think the groups that require massive numbers of AP aren’t looking for skilled players, but jaded ones. Players who have played and explored the game so extensively that they’ve exhausted all the content, are bored, but for some reason just can’t move on. With these players, there’s no risk of them doing anything fun, exciting, or otherwise disruptive to the play.

Why does ArenaNet hate farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

Actually, farming destabilizes the economy, because the farmers end up as the only people with money.

Sure, as farmers increase supply of things, the prices drop – but so does the value of everything the non-farmers get. People don’t get their gold from nowhere – they get it from selling the stuff they find.

In the lodestone example above, the people pre-patch who stumbled across a lodestone and didn’t need it were only getting 2 g for it. Post-patch, when they stumble across a lodestone they don’t need, they get 4 g from it.

I’m hoping that the change to adept trait unlocks is proof of them listening, and merely a ‘stopgap’ as they try to reconcile the ease and longevity of the new system with the fun in leveling of the old one. I’m hoping that it’s NOT a case of them completely missing the point of the complaints and just latching onto the single most offensive point… or worse, an attempt to stifle complaints by taking away the old, going overboard with terrible on the new, and reeling back just enough to the point people are terrified/grateful that it’s not as bad as it was.
