I still think 50 dollars is fine given the assumption that it would include 1-2 years of free content in the future.

But I will say that as of now, I am not going to buy HoT. Not because of the price, but because nothing that we have seen so far has made me particularly excited. Nothing has made me say “I cant wait til this comes out!” …

Right now I’m more excited about Elder Scrolls 6,,, and I don’t even know if that’s in development yet. But given what we have been told so far about HoT, I am very much underwhelmed.

I dont have a guild, I dont like PvP in this game, Gliding is disappointing to me, the new map seems like it’s going to be more annoying than Oor, and maybe this last point is just me, but these group events all look like just 200 people mashing buttons and hoping to win. To my eyes, it looks like just a bunch of floating nameplates in a field of colorful explosions.

Can I chime in please?

I do agree that this expansion doesnt seem to have that much content to warrant a 50 dollar price tag at first glance.

I do agree that an Extra character slot should have come with the basic expansion.

And yes, Maybe the veteran players should have gotten some extra goodies. Nothing huge, just neat little “I’ve been around a long time” things like SWToR and LoTRo does for its loyal gamers.

But I will say this; GW2 is a Sub-free game and with this expansion we are likely to get 1-2 years worth of updates and patches and… stuff. Paying $50 now for what doesnt seem that much at this time, will, in the long run, be a better purchase than we all originally thought. Hell after 5 months worth of the game it will pay itself off compared to the subscription games out there.

Now I know Im in the minority here, and I know ive been very negative and angry towards Anet since that whole Traits fiasco. But on this subject of price for the expansion, I think 50 dollars is just fine.

I thought the Blogs were pretty clear on most points, but they DID leave some important stuff out.

1) It was mentioned that this new system will be much less of a burden to players that have many alts…. How???

2) Our Excess Skill points and scrolls will be converted into Mystic Toilet crap….
Will this turn all of our skill points into a specific mat that will ultimately turn into whatever garbage the Mystic Toilet decides to spit out? Or will we get to trade our excess skill points for specific things through a vendor.

3) How many Hero Points are required for one trait line and When does a character start accumulating hero points ? level 30? 20? or do we get 1 point per level? 1-80

I wouldn’t say they are using the beta to distract. They’ve had it planned for a bit now. I’d say their silence on this subject with only our voices of dissent have been used to distract in a way. See, they can later claim being too busy with the xpac as the reason for not even putting the most rudimentary fix in place while others whom aren’t affected by this claim we are just complainers in a small 13 page thread since the more sizable one was closed. Out of sight, out of mind.

All the while those of us that have been trying to get info about this since the beginning are more or less at our wits end and not even logging in about to stop logging in, thereby quelling further dissent and allowing Anet more time under this system without addressing it.

They will keep their update in their back pocket with no word on it until HoT drops and that first wave of people complain. Once that happens, they roll out the fix, hoping it will quell most of that noise and have in place a new system that most new players can live with while never hearing from a good portion of us again.

It’ll be like their version of “Classic Coke” after all the people that hated “New Coke” had their say and left to drink other drinks.

But yeah…traits…

exactly this… this new Thread is so obviously a distraction/illusion/strategy to make this problem seem much smaller then it really is. And STILL, complete silence from ANET.

[SNIP]…the only way I can express my displeasure in a way they will care about is through my wallet. They haven’t gotten any money from me in a good while and won’t for the foreseeable future.

Same here, I’m afraid. I had started to log back in and even purchased gems after they made the personal story replayable, but I’m now back to what is sadly becoming my default stance of not logging in or making purchases of any kind. HoT is also looking like an unlikely purchase at this point, but I suppose that depends on ANet.

I simply refuse to reward corporate behavior like this. It’s not even poor communication they are demonstrating here, it is blatant refusal to communicate at all. This kind of thing sucks all the joy out of playing a game for me. I can’t enjoy a game when I know that the company behind it thinks so little of its players.

Nods in Agreement

I have not logged into the game since the first week of January, on either of my two accounts. At first it felt like trying to kick a drug habit, cold turkey. I would try to reason with myself that If I only log in for a few minutes and not buy any gems, then my point would still come across.

But no! My will power endured and after a few weeks of zero game time… it became much easier. I am not hyped about HoT, I have no Desire to log in anymore, and my Curiosity is the only thing that keeps me checking these forums. (particularly This Thread)

This company does not care about its customers and it shows. There is no use talking to a company like this using logical arguments. The only language they understand is money. So how’s that Code of Silence working for you, Anet?

Hard to believe Anet let this disaster remain in place for so long.

It really is hard to believe…
This game was almost perfect in the beginning…
Now it’s just… /sigh… I can’t even wrap my brain around it.
I can’t even form the correct words to describe my disappointment in Anet’s decisions.

What is the logic or reason behind keeping such a hated system?
Just revert back to the original system and if you still feel it’s absolutely necessary to make changes to it…. let us know what you’re thinking and LISTEN to the feedback BEFORE the changes are made….

What’s so hard about that?

Ok.. I guess it’s my turn…

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said ’You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air’

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought ‘Nah, forget it’ – ‘Yo, homes to Bel Air’

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie ‘Yo homes smell ya later’
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

Speculation regarding the reveal of Traits 3.0

- Anet will first open up pre-purchase options many months before HoT release date.
- Options will include a 50 dollar basic set, an $80 deluxe set, and a $150 collector’s set.
- After they have X amount of dollars to secure their fiscal year, they will reveal Traits 3.0
- Our input and feedback will be met with months of silence, followed by the rare, “we hear you” post.
- No refunds

Maybe I’m wrong, but these are my speculations.

Traits Part 2

SenorMoody.5908

Ok so here is one of my main Concerns….

Many of us have spent a lot of time and energy discussing Traits in the first Thread.
And there were many very good suggestions made, and repeated, and repeated.
Anet has reassured us a few times that they are listening, and that our feedback is valuable and wanted. They told us that they are taking our ideas into consideration.

Now, I know that the Mastery System and Traits 3.0 are not the same (I think). But I feel that it has been hinted at enough times to assume that the two will be similar and probably linked in some way. (why else would the OP suggest we re-read the Mastery Article in order to discuss traits…)

Now, admittedly, I didn’t read all 4000 posts in the first thread, but I did read a good bit of it. In all of the suggestions that I remember reading, I did not find anyone suggesting anything even similar to the Mastery System.

So after 83 pages and 10 months worth of suggestions and promises that we are being heard. The Anet team (presumably) comes up with a new system that was never even suggested. After all those “We here you! Keep the ideas coming! Your feedback is important to the team!”, we are getting something that I believe they have been working on the entire time. I also believe that the existence of that Thread was nothing more than a way to keep us busy while they continue to work on what they had planned all along…

If they ever decide that we are worthy enough to hear details about their Traits 3.0, then we will finally see if our suggestions were actually taken into consideration. At this point I have no trust this Company, and I truly believe that What ever new system they will be rolling out, was set in stone a long time before the end of that first thread.
And we were just fed 10 months worth of, “oh yea? you don’t say? keep going, I’m listening!”

Objective: Kill Trahearne

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SenorMoody.5908

SenorMoody.5908

Having Trahearne turn evil could create some interesting story development.

On one hand the story could have Trahearne actually turn evil and become a powerful Champion of Mordremoth. At the end of which we get to finally kill him.

Or another way to do it would be to have Caithe (as far as we know, an agent of Mordremoth) convince Trahearne to purposely pledge himself to Mordremoth in order to infiltrate the enemy. He would be acting as a double agent, and will use deadly force if need be, in order to convince Mordremoth of his loyalty. All the while, secretly giving the player character useful information that could ultimately end Mordremoth.

Then when the time is right, He and Caithe would turn on their “master” and fight side by side with you and redeem themselves.

meh, could be fun.

Name a specialization for your profession

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SenorMoody.5908

SenorMoody.5908

Necromancer > Oni-Mancer > Greatsword
They will be able to absorb the Mobs’ souls with their great-swords
and unlock more powerful skills with that sword until the soul power runs out.

Engineer > Demolitionist > Hammer
While he is busy smashing faces with his Rocket powered Hammer,
his mini drones follow him everywhere, providing him with passive
buffs on timed intervals, similar to a guardians virtues.

Guardian > Templar > Longbow
He will be able to wield an enchanted Long Bow to fire specialized
arrows imbued with Light and Fire. Light arrows are more defensive
and supports you and your group. Fire Arrows are more Offensive
annihilates your foes. The more you use one type of arrow, the more
powerful they become. Using Light arrows repeatedly will place an Aura
of golden flames on you, and turn you into a powerful healer. Using the
Fire arrows repeatedly will place an Aura of Crimson Flames on you, and
allow your attacks to be swift and dangerous.

Warrior > Dragoon > Land-Spear/Lance
They will wield Land Spears/Pole-arms. They are specially trained
Dragon slayers created to counter Tyria’s very obvious “Dragon Problem”
The Warrior realized that brute strength alone wont be enough to
effectively slay dragons. So they decided to concentrate on their mobility,
reach, and accuracy to eliminate the Dragon threat with precise strikes to
their vital points using specialized Land Spears.
The Dragoon will be able to maneuver around the battle field with speed and
grace to confuse their foes. Then at precisely the right time, they will strike a
vital point with their long spears with remarkable accuracy.

Mesmer > Chronomancer > Shield
Using Time Magic, the Chronomancer can manipulate the Battle field to Hinder her enemies with Slows and debuffs. And can help her Allies with Hastes and Timewarps.
Can even use her powerful Elite skill, “Replay”, which allows up to 3 players to travel 20 seconds back in time in order to avoid any mistakes that were made the first time.

Thief > Nerf > Unarmed
No more perma stealth.

Elementalist > Mendeleev > Dual Swords
She has gained such control over the Elements that she is able channel a
different element through a Sword in each hand and combine them in unique
ways to create new devastating attacks and annihilate her foes.

Ranger > Sniper > Rifle
Can use the terrain to his advantage while firing devastating attacks at max range.
Able to use obstructions on the battle field to effectively mitigate enemy attacks and even avoid their sight entirely through the use of camouflage (stealth while standing still). The sniper’s Elite skill will be “Trick-Shot”, which will allow the Sniper to fire an enchanted Bullet. Once fired, the Sniper will be able to freely manipulate the Projectile for 10 seconds.

Ascended gear grind is OTT ridiculous

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SenorMoody.5908

SenorMoody.5908

I know this is old (inb4 old news is old), but I recently came back to Guild Wars 2 after a long break and discovered how much of a grind Ascended gear is, and feel like writing a rant (deal with it).

It takes me 5 days to craft one Ascended weapon!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? And that’s assuming I already have all the materials required. Oh, but it only costs 500 of this and that and that. Yeah, that’s only 3 weeks of grinding dungeons, bosses, events and what else you got. For one weapon. Are you kidding me!?
So, if I have one character that uses like 6 weapons, it takes me at minimum a full month to craft all his stuff. But that’s without taking in account the time it takes to grind the Gold and the 1000s of Dragonite Ores and Empyreal Fragments required to craft them. And that’s only for one character that only uses 6 weapons. Then what about my other 4 guys, that use 6+ weapons each? I’m not even going to do the math for that.
And what if I’d like to change my character’s build at one point… what if I get bored of a certain playstyle and want to try something else without sacrificing my stats? Tough ****ing luck because you’ll have to grind another 3 months just to get your single character fully equipped again (that’s even ignoring the ridiculous amount of Transmutation Stones required if I’d want to keep my old look).

And before anyone says you don’t need Ascended gear: YOU ARE WRONG. Of course you need Ascended gear, why else is it there? Why else have they have given it better stats than Exotic gear? By that logic we would not need any gear at all since people can solo dungeons not wearing any armour whatsoever. Like, durr, why do we need any armour in GW2 at all when we can clear content in our underwear?
Whichever gear gives the best stats is what we NEED.

“But you get all the stuff you need while playing the game, no grind required.” Again: WRONG. What if I like playing dungeons? That doesn’t give me any Dragonite Ore (seriously, who came up with that name, anyway?) What if I don’t like world bosses? They’re just one giant lag fest making me feel like I’m watching a Powerpoint slideshow and don’t offer any satisfying gameplay since it’s just “stand in 1 place with the 100 other peoples and auto-attack away”.
So, I need to do 20 hours of world bosses for a single Ascended weapon. And you call that no grind. LOL!?!?

What exactly happened to this no-grind philosophy? Why wasn’t Exotic gear good enough as a final tier of gear? It’s not like people were unable to clear any content with Exotics anyway. Ascended serves no logical purpose other than to **** off those people who don’t have the time to play 28 hours a day, 450 days a year.

I agree, with your OP… but the main thing you’re forgetting is that you have to use Anet’s definition of the word, “grind”.

Ahem…

Anet says that grind only applies to Best in Slot gea…. … wait…

No, they said that players should be able to easily get BiS gear through normal gameplay… with… no… … grind… wait that can’t be right…

Anet has stated! That it is not considered a grind, since you are given different ways to get Ascended gear! Like… like.. crafting, and…. …

./Sigh Im actually undecided at the moment….

At first I was very excited and could not wait for the release…
But after giving it some thought, there are two things that made me reconsider.

Price : So far, from what we have been told… I think that a price tag above $35 is too
much. There just doesn’t seem to be enough content to warrant a $60-$80 price tag.

New-New Trait System : I’m glad that the current Trait system is going away…
But what are we getting in its place? It may be something even worse. We don’t know.

And today I learned that players don’t want to work towards anything and have everything handed to them on silver platter, grind or no grind.

http://swz.salary.com/SalaryWizard/Aerospace-Engineer-V-Job-Description.aspx

Can’t speak for anyone else, though that’s on the order of what I’m willing to work at.

These games? Pff. Not so much. There’s a certain wisdom in knowing what’s good and useful to work hard at, and to me, these games are so far from making the list as to render such comments as this downright comical.

My commitment to sparkle motion should not merely be doubted, but known far and wide s being non-existent.

And before some smug little part time burger flipper tried to tell me how lazy that must mean I am, I make craft beers, do my own custom cabinetry and woodworking, am a hobbyist electrical engineer when it comes to messing around with my own tweaking of computer hardware, a frequent world traveler for both work and leisure, a once-a-week member of a local church’s choral group and a regular volunteer down at my local food shelter.

More? I’m also a full time husband of a wife that firmly believes that going mountain biking and hiking on everything is the perfect way to spend a weekend. Consequently, we do a lot of those, as well as going to beaches with friends and having regular once or twice weekly barbecue cook outs on our patio.

I’m not willing to sacrifice any of that to ‘work harder’ at a game. Frankly, I feel it to be a giant joke to work at these things at all. Defeat the point much? It certainly would for me, to them this into yet another laborious task in my life.

So hers your sign. I’ll take all the silver platter service. You can try to, I dunno, pretend you’re the Michael Phelps of achievement point hunting or something.

Whatever it is that motivated people to try so hard to work at these games harder than they might well work at anything else at all fails entirely to grab me. I don’t get it and I don’t rightly care to start trying now.

I’ve been saying to posts like this ’ get a real job and accomplish something in your life. Then come back and tell us how lazy we are for not being interested in working super hard in video game land’ for years. Consider it implied here too.

I just wanted to quote you on this since i think it perfectly describes what I feel about “Games” and “Work”, and how the two are entirely different things. Well said man.. I love this post. +1 !

"No-grind philosophy"

I don’t understand why some of you are saying that Ascended gear is only cosmetic…
I admit I haven’t logged into the game in a while… but Last I checked, Ascended gear is Best in Slot, is it not?

It doesn’t matter if something CAN be done in Exotic gear or Rare gear or whatever… that’s not really the point. The point is that Anet is sticking to their statement of having a “No Grind Philosophy” and that players should be able to naturally obtain Best in Slot gear through normal gameplay with no grind….

This is simply not true… Ascended gear contradicts the No Grind Philosophy…
As stated above, one would need to collect Thousands of the same mats for Ascended gear. So what exactly is the Argument? That because we are given more than one way to obtain those mats, The grind disappears?

Ok so here is a box that contains a prize. You can have the prize by doing either; 10 thousand pushups, 10 thousand situps, or 10 thousand squats. Since you have been given multiple ways to earn that prize, it’s not considered a grind.

Whether you are willing to put in the time and effort and work to get that prize is irrelevant… it IS a grind, in a game that claims to have no grind….
