I’ve paused a few groups so i could try and solo all three phases of his fights. what i’ve found is that when solo he seems to rely on the crystal prison more, had good success running shadowstep and infiltrator signet (+ steal obviously) if you have shadow arts traits, one of em should be deception cooldowns. I love fighting alpha, and hate the lasers for not letting me solo the dungeon
Pretty sure he said dont say cloaked in shadow. the conversation is about weaponsets, not about traits or utility skills (before you bring up blinding powder next)
Infusion of Shadow returns 2 init when using a “skill” to stealth. Yet it works for both leap and blast combos. I see no reason why Meld with Shadows shouldnt.
Well I guess we can go back and forth all day arguing. However considering a warriors missed burst skill doesnt use up adrenaline, and a thieves missed stealth skill doesnt use up stealth, these things seem intended. I’m sorry you feel the need to counter skills in an ineffective manner when there are easier no cd mechanics in place for all classes to deal with them.
movement, turn around, LOS and finally L2P
/end
There is a reason Shadowstep takes you out of stealth – landing BS should require at least some skill, and should be dodgeable if outplayed.
Shadowstep does NOT take you out of stealth, its currently a bug thats been reported, you become visible to yourself, but are still in stealth (look at your buff icons) and can still perform stealth attacks, as it should be. They just need to fix the graphics error of not appearing to be in stealth to the player
Backstab is now a basic maneuver? 1 of 2 attacks in the entire game that REQUIRE a pre existing buff (stealth) to be achieved first, then be in melee range AND then be behind your enemy? When warriors have such position requirements to achieve the 23k killshot or HB i might agree with you, as is though backstab and tac strike have the highest requirements to succeed of any melee skills.
Why would you waste a block or invuln cd on backstab? thats not outplaying someone thats wasting your skill which is a fail. BS can be avoided so easily by simple movement, even keyboard turning can cut the bs damage in half, yet you want to waste a block skill? and call that skill? Use the block skill on CnD then you’ve negated the damage from cnd and backstab, plus the vuln cond and the blindness that goes with it, AND stopped then from entering stealth and forcing them to waste HALF their init, with one block skill. THAT would be skill, what your doing is a fail
Actually the BPS + HS combo is the most efficient way to stack stealth. with Infusion of shadow each heartseeker is only 1 init, so you can easily and cheaply get multiple stacks of stealth for a duration much greater than CnD
And you can stealth using D/P how?
You should really know a subject before you post on it
to answer your question press 5 then press 2
So, I happened to stop by the GW2 State of the Game stream just in time for their discussion on thieves. Apparently, ANET plans to change stealth so that it applies the revealed buff, regardless if you hit something or not.
Discuss.
Good change, also prevents thieves from having infinite stealth inside forts and castles and running around untouchable for 45 min.
100% wrong. The D/P “Perma” stealth build is not affected by this change since they never have to leave stealth. Only the patient CnD using thieves are hit by this
Drawing Guy, you have your builds mixed up a little d/p IS the permastealth build, with the right traits and skills equipped that build NEVER leaves stealth, where as the CnD spammer technically leaves stealth every 4 seconds then re-stealths
d/p is perma stealth and is NOT affected by this change, only CnD spammers get hit
Both should be fixed somehow, but this change only fixes one of them
Zaxon watch the video again. They talked about giving thieves alot if things as ideas in the future, but very specifically said the stealth change was already in the next patch
Thats kinda funny considering the devs themselves said that Ele is filling the mobility role intended for thieves… also not the highest burst in the game, perhaps one of the more difficult to avoid bursts, but by far not the highest
Just my thoughts, I love the idea having some duelist styled sword traits, some protection, regen things along those lines sound very good depending how they are done. Retaliation however imho is a terrible idea, Ret. only works by being able to absorb/heal more damage than your opponent takes by attacking you. Thieves cannot absorb or out heal anyone. Having a Ret. trait would make thieves need to take more hits or the trait is useless… thieves already cant deal with hits
Same thing happening to me. After update, i get to character select, and cannot load into game
Simple fixes:
1.Any damage to a stealthed opponents: reveals the stealthed person..just like every other mmorpg that was, is and ever will be.
2.Any action performed during stealth breaks it.
3. Stealthing of any sort should cause initiative usage. Enough to prevent restealthing over and over. This isn’t thief wars or hide-and-go-seek.
Or
Introduce cooldowns on stealth in general..no need to stealth 4 times in a fight instantly with only one stealth ability using initiative..dagger off hand thief: can spec into stealth upon stealing, can stealth when healing, can group stealth and can dagger 5 to stealth. Only dagger 5 in this situation uses initiative..and it can be used twice in a row.. kinda silly, really..
4.Bow 5 and sword 2 -and its equivalent- should have high initiate usage with a short range for sword 2 maximum 1200 range. Its time that the thief class should stay and pay the price if it messes up like every other class – eles excluded..their escapes are just too silly as well if anyone ran into a half decent ele -
Or simply..introduce cooldowns on the abilities like Aaaaaall the other classes in the game?
There are -presumably- more than two people doing the balancing as eluded to previously. SEVEN months have passed with the most pressing class imbalance being thieves as noted by 64k reads to this thread and 60+ pages of replies and still nothing has been done.
We’ve reached a point of heavy customer dissatisfaction and the slow reaction to balancing the thief is an indicative of things to come, unfortunately. The players patience is not infinite and with new MMOs looming in the horizon, time is running short.
You mention adding cooldowns to stealth skills, then bring up 4 stealth skills that ALREADY have cooldowns. Cnd uses half of base thief initiative, how about when other classes use their number 5 skill an ENTIRE weapon set goes on cooldown, thats what thieves pay to use CnD.
Shortbow 5 and Sword 2, you would like to cost alot of init, and have a max range of 1200? do you realize shortbow 5 cost HALF our init, and has 900 range, sword 2 which costs less has 600 range for the initial use.
Seems like everything you want is already implemented, 4 of 5 skills already have cooldowns, and teleport range is LESS than your maximum PLUS costing massive init.
Hrmh, I’d say that invisibility needs to drop when:
1) You’re burning. Seriously, you’re a human torch, How do you hide?
2) Someone hits you in melee. Obviously they feel their sword cutting through you, how are they unable to notice you?
3) Flash visible every time an AoE field hits you. Obviously your presence distrubs the field.
4.) You’re bleeding. You’re spouting blood everywhere, should give a good idea where you are.Running in the middle of 20 or so players without nobody noticing shouldn’t be possible, especially if they’re dealing damage to you.
1) You dont hide, your already INVISIBLE via MAGIC
2)They do feel the hit, thats why AA chains advance to the next attack, they dont see you because you are INVISIBLE via MAGIC
3)see 1
4)Your blood, as the rest of your body and possessions, is INVISIBLE
Thieves aren’t magical…they use no magic, thus stealth should follow a more realistic approach and not a magic one.
100% wrong. Thieves as descendents of the GW assassin, are users of denial magic
You point out the physical flaws in thieves ‘hiding’ but ignore the fact that we literally step through shadows to TELEPORT. How is that not magic? Go read some lore on the GW wiki about the bloodstone and splitting of magic in Tyria
Just a mild point I would like to add to the discussion. Columba, Sebrent and others keep talking about all the things thieves can do in stealth, init refund on stealth skills, cleanse conditions, blind on stealth, regen boon, healing in stealth, init regen in stealth, and all of these are wonderful traits, but we do have to CHOOSE, we cant have all of them, so stop acting like we can, no thief can run 9 different traits in shadow arts, and this assumption of godmode thief that we can is ignorant
Yes, that is very true. And guess what? It’s because tournaments are focused on keeping points and stealth doesn’t work for that.
Everywhere stealth is useful, the thief shows as overpowered. Everywhere stealth is useless, the thief sucks in that mode. That’s why I say stealth is the thief’s problem. If the thief for example had more evades and party support and less stealths, it would have been good enough for tournaments as well.
Guess What? ALL pvp in this game is focused on keeping points, both spvp tpvp and WvWvW are all about capturing and holding points. So all this QQ is about a mechanic that is terrible for the SOLE focus all pvp goals in the game.
